I am reporting a latent manufacturing defect in my 2024 Toyota Tundra i-FORCE MAX (Hybrid). This vehicle is equipped with the V35A-FTS engine, which has been officially recalled in non-hybrid Tundra models (NHTSA Recall 25V767) due to internal machining debris that causes catastrophic engine failure. Current Situation: Although my vehicle has not yet experienced a total engine seizure, it contains the exact same engine architecture and manufacturing origin as the recalled units. I am filing this complaint because Toyota has excluded the Hybrid models from the safety recall, citing that the electric motor acts as a safety backup. Safety Concern: My safety and the safety of my passengers are at risk because this "safety backup" claim is unproven and potentially false. Data from other owners suggests that a catastrophic V35A engine failure triggers a system-wide "Hybrid System Malfunction," which can disable all motive power, power steering, and braking assist. Driving a vehicle with a known "ticking time bomb" defect—where the engine could seize at highway speeds—creates a high-risk environment for a high-speed collision. Request for Action: I am urging the NHTSA to investigate the i-FORCE MAX Hybrid models and compel Toyota to expand Recall 25V767 to include all V35A-equipped hybrid vehicles. The exclusion of the hybrid model is a bypass of safety protocols that leaves owners like myself driving a vehicle with a documented manufacturing flaw that the manufacturer has already admitted requires a full engine replacement in other configurations. Inspection: The vehicle is available for inspection; however, the defect is internal and was caused during the manufacturing process, making it invisible to standard dealer inspections until the point of failure.

When coming to a stop and then trying to accelerate to turn into a street I get an abnormal amount of throttle lag. There’s even times it seems to lag and then registers that I am trying to accelerate quickly causing me to “burn out” while I’m turning and no I am not accelerating crazy. There’s been a few close calls where I almost lose control of the vehicle.
- 12/29/2025· POWER TRAIN
When slowing down to a stop but not stopping completely then speeding up to enter another street or an intersection there is a 1-2 second hesitation before the truck reacts and actually moves. This is very scary and dangerous as it can cause an accident with oncoming traffic in certain situations. Toyota knows about this and does not have a fix for this defect.
- 12/26/2025· ENGINE
On July 31, 2024, my vehicle lost power while driving on the freeway and I had to make an emergency stop. Luckily I was able to do so safely. I brought the vehicle to Toyota Dealership South Bay to report this issue. The dealership inspected the vehicle but stated that they were unable to diagnose or replicate the problem and returned the vehicle to me without repair. The issue persisted and/or reoccurred after that visit. On November 6, 2025, Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing issued Safety Recall No. 25V767000 (NHTSA Campaign Number 25V767000), titled “Debris in Engine May Cause Stall.” According to the recall, debris from the manufacturing process may contaminate the engine and cause the main bearings to fail, which can result in an engine stall and loss of drive power. The recall applies to certain 2022–2024 Toyota Tundra vehicles equipped with the V35A engine and affects approximately 126,691 vehicles. The recall states that a loss of drive power increases the risk of a crash. The defect described in Recall No. 25V767000 appears to directly explain the issue I reported to Toyota Dealership South Bay on July 31, 2024, more than a year before the recall was issued. At the time of my service visit, no recall, safety warning, or remedy was disclosed to me, and the concern was not resolved. Toyota has indicated that the remedy for this recall is currently under development and that interim notification letters were mailed to owners on December 16, 2025, with a final remedy to follow. This condition presents a significant safety risk because an engine stall and sudden loss of drive power can occur without warning while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of a crash.

While driving down the highway at ~70 mph, the truck's powertrain suddenly shut off. The electronics still worked, but the RPMs dropped to zero. I was forced to pull off to the side of the road, where I tried to turn off and turn back on. The truck kept on turning off and on by itself electronically, but the engine and transmission wouldn't engage for roughly 10 minutes. I was eventually able to start the truck and limp home, but the engine was knocking afterward. Completely shutting down while driving down the highway at cruising speeds is insanely unsafe.

The lens on the forward facing camera in the front grill cracked making the camera useless and in need of replacement. I first noticed the problem about a year ago. It is available for inspection. I can't see any damage around the camera that would have been caused by an object hitting the front of the truck which leads me to believe that the camera lens cracked because of a defect. The camera has not been inspected by the dealer however I have gotten a replacement estimate at the dealer.

Both passenger seats by controls plastic cracking. Infotainment center blacks out and marker bars and back up lines for both back up and front parking have disappeared. Toyota did a factory reset on it and didn’t fix the issue took it back and a tech had to re-install program said the Infotainment center has a known issue where it forgets the program. I also informed Toyota about the engine seems to be really sluggish when at a complete stop and then start again taking a few seconds to go along with shifting hard from stop and go. Toyota did say they saw what I saw and this usually happens when people double foot pedals. I told them I don’t do that. I am frustrated and don’t know what to do I have a 72k truck that just turned 17k miles on it with a lot of issues what will I have to deal with down the road once the warranty is up? - 12/18/2025· ENGINE
I am submitting a safety defect concern regarding Toyota’s V35A 3.4L twin-turbo V6 manufacturing defect involving machining debris contaminating crankshaft main bearings. Toyota initiated a safety recall in May 2024 for MY 2022–2023 Toyota Tundra and Lexus LX vehicles, citing debris left in the engine during manufacturing that can lead to bearing failure, engine failure, loss of motive power, and increased crash risk. In November 2025, Toyota expanded this recall to include MY 2022–2024 Toyota Tundra, MY 2022–2024 Lexus LX, and MY 2024 Lexus GX vehicles, citing the same defect mechanism. Despite this expansion, Toyota has excluded i-FORCE MAX hybrid vehicles from the recall population. My vehicle is a 2024 Toyota Tundra i-FORCE MAX, VIN [XXX] , build date 02/2024, with 3,667 miles. It uses the same V35A 3.4L twin-turbo engine architecture and manufacturing process implicated in the recall. The presence of a hybrid electric motor does not eliminate the underlying defect mechanism (engine-internal debris contamination) nor the risk of sudden engine failure, loss of power under load, or unsafe drivability conditions. Excluding hybrid vehicles appears inconsistent with the stated defect cause and may result in similarly affected vehicles not being inspected, remedied, or disclosed to owners. I respectfully request that NHTSA evaluate whether Toyota’s exclusion of i-FORCE MAX vehicles is technically justified given the defect mechanism described, and whether additional investigation or recall expansion is warranted. At this time, my vehicle has not exhibited failure symptoms; however, this is a latent manufacturing defect with potential safety consequences. Known issue with these trucks apparently. Occasional throttle lag after stopping at a stop sign, with little response from the gas pedal. On november/december of this month pulling out into a main road with traffic coming, I stepped on the gas and experienced a complete "dead pedal". I stepped on the gas and had 0 response from the truck staying at 5-10 MPH. With cars now coming towards me quickly as I was not moving I floored the gas pedal and had 0 response for another 2-3 seconds until finally the truck jolted at an extreme rate of speed. *Also have a dash cam that recorded in the incident of me flooring it with some vulgar words as cars were coming and the truck was not moving at all.

The contact received notifications of NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 25V767000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) and 25V322000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING); however, the parts to do the recall repairs were not yet available. The contact stated that while driving at 70 MPH, the vehicle stalled. The message "Engine Stopped" was displayed on the instrument panel. The contact was able to coast to the side of the road, and the vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed, and determined that there were metal shavings inside the engine. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that on a separate occasion, four weeks after the engine was replaced, while driving 70 MPH, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that force was used to maneuver the steering wheel. The contact was able to coast to the side of the road. There was an unknown message displayed on the instrument panel. The vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was towed back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed, and determined that an unknown cable was not attached when the engine was replaced. The dealer tested the battery, and the battery failed the test. The battery was replaced. The contact stated that the infotainment screen displayed the message "Passenger Side Window Open" while the passenger side window was closed. The contact stated that when the passenger’s side window was rolled up, the window independently rolled down a few inches. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 31,000.

You can NOT continue to drive in even a minor downpour, safely. Those who insist on doing so WILL cause, or be involved in crashes. Having owned 4 generations of Toyota vehicles amounting to several models, this downgrade is really, very shocking. We have always found our Toyota's to meet or usually exceed safety features. There is NO WAY that they sincerely believed this was "okay" or were unaware. It exceeds "obvious" failure by quite a margin. They simply WILLFULLY ignored IT!

This Toyota Tundra, equipped with the specially designed air bag rear suspension, for towing, is incapable of towing anything on U.S. roads, particularly U.S, Interstates crossing our country... where a very large portion of these interstates are rutted, like a washboard, caused by over-weight trucks and the weather... and these rutted or rippled interstate roads last sometimes for hundreds of miles at a time... from western Ohio to Montana, easily 75% of the roads are in this condition. The truck is a complete hazard, and extremely dangerous to the driver and anyone else on the highway. It is dangerous to the highest degree and should not be allowed on any U.S. highway. The rear airbag suspension is controlled by a computer, this computer constantly levels the truck, and there is no way to over-ride this system/computer program. So, the truck is constantly trying to level itself. Note, this adaptive air-bag suspension is sold by Toyota as the ultimate towing machine, six years in Toyota design... yet, it is totally incapable of towing on U.S. highways, unless, of course, the roads are new and black top and totally smooth. So, this is what happens, every time the truck hits a bump, the computer tries to level the truck... when towing a trailer, in this case a 30 foot Airstream, the tounge weight is 950 pounds — so with every bump the tounge of the trailer slams down 950 pounds on the back of the truck, and the truck desperately tries to level itself. This creates some sort of synergistic response between the truck and the trailer, and the truck and the trailer start rocking back in forth in a very violent manner, and when you let off the gas and slow down, it becomes even more violent, and extremely difficult to keep on the road and in your lane... not to say, what it does to the driver, who is slammed around the cabin. This suspension was clearly designed on a computer, and never road-tested on U.S. highways and interstates in the north... It is a disaster.

The contact owns a 2024 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that the rearview camera displayed a frozen image or a black screen while the vehicle was in reverse(R). The contact stated that the failure obstructed the driver's visibility, which prevented the driver from safely operating the vehicle. In addition, the infotainment screen failed to function as intended. While the contact was using the hands-free phone, the call occasionally disconnected. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the contact was informed that the hands-free phone disconnecting was due to the cell phone service. The dealer updated the software. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer; however, the vehicle was not inspected or diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that prior to the failure, the tires on the vehicle showed inner sidewall damage. The tires were not replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The manufacturer contacted the dealer, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 4,000.

I am experiencing an ongoing issue since the truck was new: the engine hesitates upon acceleration at any speed. When stopped this lag in throttle response makes it difficult to navigate in heavy or unpredictable traffic as the vehicle does not response to the pedal instantly and making intentional sudden speed changes is all but impossible to do safely. Depressing the pedal heavy to try and hasten the response makes the truck surge into hard and fast acceleration, worsening the issue. I have discussed this with the dealer and they said this is “normal” for this truck, and I have heard the same from numerous other 3rd generation Tundra owners. This is a safety issue because I don’t have adequate control of the vehicle’s dynamics as the computer is overriding my control of the acceleration, presumably to improve fuel economy. Ultimately this seems to be an intentional design decision by Toyota and puts me and my passengers at risk.

Several situations where the throttle hesitates when entering traffic or trying to come to interstate speeds on merge ramps. 1-2 sec delay has caused potential close calls while merging, when plenty of room existed to merge at speed.

On 11/28/2025 I was driving to work and all the warning lights on my 2024 Toyota lit up and the engine shut completely off. I had the vehicle towed to Performance Toyota Dealership in Bountiful, UT. I learned that there is a recall for the engine on these vehicles. The vehicle is still under factory warranty and had 34k miles on it. After a week of my truck sitting at the dealership they still are waiting on a decision from “Corporate” on whether they want to replace the engine under the factory warranty or they want to replace the engine under the recall which they are saying “no remedy” has been put out on the 2024 Tundra recall yet. The outcome of either remedy is a new engine. I also asked about just trading the truck in for a newer model which when I asked they took the Blue Book trade in value down $10k since it had a recall on it. This is no fault of my own and this is terrible customer service from Toyota. I also received a loaner car from them which I cannot drive because I don’t meet the age requirement so my dad has to drive the loaner vehicle which he is very unhappy about since I’m having to borrow his new vehicle to drive back and forth to work and putting miles on his new car. This whole process is very frustrating and unfair to not have a decision made on the engine replacement or being treated fairly on a trade in. Thankfully there was no accident with injuries.

This sunroof has a rattle that will not stop. I have taken it to a Toyota Dealer twice, and was told this was a known issue and will do what they can to help with the rattle. The sunroof shakes and rattles like glass hitting the tracks, or glass hitting metal when driving down the road. I am afraid one bump will shatter the glass. Will be returning to the dealership for a third time today to see if it can be fixed.

While moving through an intersection the vehicle will occasionally loose power and the engine returns to idle. I will press on the gas for 3-4 seconds before the engine throttle reacts and the vehicle starts to accelerate. This has happened many times. The vehicle will turn or brake but it will not accelerate.
- 12/05/2025· ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING,EXTERIOR LIGHTING
The contact owns a 2024 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that while driving in inclement weather, the rearview camera became inoperable, and moisture was visible in the displayed image. The contact also stated that while driving at 50 MPH, the vehicle stalled. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle did not need to be restarted. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 25V322000 (Exterior Lighting) and 25V767000 (Engine and Engine Cooling); however, the parts to perform the recall repairs were not yet available. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000.

I periodically have throttle lag issues when starting to roll and take off from a stop - a lot of times this is in the middle of an intersection or pulling out into traffic lanes. The throttle almost doesn't respond or drops and then a few moments later takes off trying to make up for the throttle lag.
- 12/03/2025· VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
While driving the vehicle there is excessive lag in throttle response when giving the vehicle gas pedal input. Example being when you push gas to accelerate there is a 1-2 second delay from the vehicle before there is movement or acceleration. This happens every time i drive the vehicle and has almost caused numerous accidents due to the inconsistent response to throttle input.
- 12/03/2025· VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
Vehicle hesitates to accelerate from stop or slow roll when pedal is engaged. This hesitation nearly caused a collision when attempting a left-hand turn in heavy traffic. Problem can be reproduced easily and is exacerbated when on an incline. It has not been confirmed by dealer or service center. Occurs regardless of whether auto start/stop feature is enabled or not. Putting transmission in "S" mode and manually down shifting to first gear appears to prevent the issue. After the hesitation, when the vehicle begins to accelerate, it performs a "hard" acceleration, like the pedal was slammed to the floor, even though consistent pressure was maintained on the the pedal. Problem has existed since purchasing the vehicle new in Dec. 2023.
- 12/03/2025· ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
The vehicle experiences throttle lag/hesitation when going from a stop. At stop lights or when at a complete stop when you apply gas there is a good amount of hesitation before the engine moves. I found this is dangerous because the warmer the vehicle is the more I expirience it. Very concerning when trying to move out of traffic, when making left and right turns at intersections. There has not been an accident yet but it is a ticking time bomb.
