I have taken my vehicle to Wilde Toyota (2 time) for the same issue . The car either moves/slids to the left or right. They adjusted the wheel alignment in November and now again I am having the same issue. Took the car again to Wilde Toyota and they are asking me for 185 USD for the wheel alignment. I told them this looks like a drive train or suspension issue but there were hesitant to check it.

Third row seating bottom (back side) has loose flap material end the bottom, when closing and opening the seat it’s can get stuck. It’s also possible the seat can probably even collapse while in use or in driving. The dealer tried to help but there doesn’t seem to be any solution for this from Toyota. This seems to be model wide issue as I was told by dealer. They had another one with same issue. The bottom back of the seat is literally loose flap material. The only solution was they replaced the cargo tray which was actually slightly BENT at front possibly due to seat struggling to close and opening due to faulty design. THIS IS A FAULTY DESIGN! ITS LITERALLY A LOSSE FLAP PLASTIC MATERIAL ON A SEAT BACK. The dealer told me to be careful when handling these seats bc the material can break easily and there isn’t solution from Toyota on this unless there is recall or safety notice.

  • 12/15/2025· ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

I am filing a complaint regarding a safety recall on my Toyota vehicle. Toyota issued the recall notice on September 11, 2025, but as of today there is still no available remedy. Due to this recall, my vehicle has been deemed unsafe and undriveable and has been out of service since October 8, 2025. While a rental vehicle has been provided, I have been without my own car for several months with no clear timeline or resolution. I am concerned about the extended delay in providing a recall remedy for a safety-related defect and the lack of transparency regarding next steps. I am requesting that NHTSA review Toyota’s handling of this recall, including the prolonged lack of a remedy and the impact on vehicle owners. I believe this delay is unreasonable and warrants further oversight.

  • 12/11/2025· VISIBILITY

My Toyota Grand Highlander develops severe interior window fogging and condensation, affecting the windshield, front side windows, and occasionally rear windows. This occurs during normal driving, especially in cool or humid conditions. The fogging appears rapidly, and the HVAC/defrost system often fails to clear the windows effectively, even when set to full defrost with outside air intake. Interior moisture buildup is excessive compared to other vehicles I’ve owned, and the issue repeats regularly. This creates a significant visibility hazard, forcing me to adjust climate controls constantly while driving or pull over to clear the glass manually.

  • 12/08/2025· SUSPENSION

My car is a 2024 Grand Highlander I bought in May of last year. It currently has 20,000 miles on it. A few weeks ago I started hearing a knocking sound when I turned left or right. I looked at some Toyota forums and found that other people were having this issue and had to have both front axles replaced. I took my car to Toyota and sure enough, they said the parts they used to assemble the car were not machined properly and they replaced both of my front axles. Having said that, I have 2 issues. One, why hasn't a recall been issued on this. It seems as though quite a bit of people have had this problem and this is a big safety issue. There have been 2 other recalls, one about the screen going blank and airbags, but to me, axle is a much bigger safety issue, so why no recall on this? Also, the technician recommends an alignment after chaning the axles which I am expected to pay $150 for but this should be included since my axles should not need changing at 20,000 miles. They consider alignment normal wear and tear and not under warranty which I would normally agree with but I only need an aligmnent because they changed my axles.

They advised that the recall is open but Toyota did not have a remedy, so just keep monitoring it. I called on November 5th , to check on the recall and a service campaign alert that was issued on my Toyota Application. They said for that I needed to bring it in during the week, we scheduled the recall repair for 11/12/2024. When I picked up my vehicle, I was advised that they had to order the part for the recall. They performed regular maintenance, etc. however, the recall is still open and has not been repaired.

  • 10/24/2023· STRUCTURE

Hope this email finds you well. I am writing just to give some feedback about my brand new Grand Highlander Platinum. Unfortunately, I have been noticing some issues with the hood (vibrating) at any speed which raised a huge concern about the safety of my family as it seems like the hood is going to fly away from the vehicle (at high speed like 50 mph or more). The formal response received from 2 different dealers is: We just got off the phone with the Toyota technical specialists about the concern with the hood. They have one other case open for the same complaint but are telling us there is no safety concern at this time and to release the vehicle back to you. We did test 2 other Grand Highlanders and they are both doing the same thing. My personal opinion is that due to the lightweight nature of the hood it is susceptible to flex and is showing that movement more obviously because of the black paint’s reflection properties. In my experience, if more of these cases arise, the manufacturer will open an investigation into a possible resolution but at this time we have been instructed to take no action. If you want I can send you some videos about the vibration. As you can see, the answer does not make sense since it is uncomfortable to see how the hood moves while you drive. I think it is important that customers know this defect before investing money in this vehicle. • 10/16/2024· POWER TRAIN

Specifically the model: 2024 Grand Highlander Hybrid Max. immediately new off the dealer lot when driving between 0-40mph, there is a transmission issue. In real life situation of stop and go, and needing to accelerate after making a right turn out of a driveway or stop sign on to flowing traffic, often times it feels as if the gear is shifting too high or skipping causing the car to lose power/ rpm and the vehicle chugs, before skipping back to the correct gearing and accelarating. I'm not sure how to describe it but I feel it is a safety risk especially if there are cars coming behind you. I have taken this into Hamer Toyota 2 times, but they can't seem to recreate the issue. However, my wife goes through this almost every day during her commute to and from work. Imagine driving a manual transmission and accelerating on 1st or 2nd gear, and all of a sudden the gear shifts to 4th or 5th gear, causing loss of power or rpm and due to natural instinct of depressing the accelerator further for power and the gear now shifting back and clutching grabbing at 1st or 2nd gear with the accelerator depressed further down than the beginning. This causes a jerking motion of our body in the car, because the car loses power, the all of sudden jerks back into power. I have attached URLs to people complaining about this besides myself. I'm seeing that toyota released a TBS to update software, but it seems its not readily available every time I call, or they need to recreate this before anything is done. I think this is a big safety concern and eventually cause accidents by getting rear ended. I'm sure other drivers think we can't drive because of not being able to speed up then rocketing forward. help! I wanted to open the hood using the hood support rod. Holding the hood with left hand using right hand grabbed the support rod . It burned my fingers immediately.Looking at the designed it is placed in the center of the hood underside right above engine compartment. It took one week and 3 phone calls to Toyota product liability area. I told him I learn my lesson the hard way that I will never grab it again without a glove. It is that hot I asked him why would they design a bar above the engine compartment which will except all the heat from the engine, I looked in the owners manual and I read it to the Toyota person I contacted and this is what it says and I quote the support rod may be hot after driving the vehicle. Touching the hot support rod may lead to burns or other serious injuries so I told the representative at Toyota they put this in the book knowing that people are going to get burned or drop the hood when their hand gets burned and it’s gonna fall on their head or it’s going to hit their hand. Why would they design something so poorly like this he thanked me for letting him know about it I asked him what will someone be back in touch with me to validate my concern and that they’re looking into it and he said absolutely not he said if there’s any recall, I’ll get notified by mail. Thank you very much is all I got from them

When accelerating from a complete stop, the vehicle intermittently fails to respond when pressing the gas pedal. It feels similar to when a bicycle chain slips—you press the pedal, but the vehicle doesn’t move forward—then suddenly it catches, causing a noticeable lurch. The duration of this lag varies, and it has been increasing over time. Most recently, the hesitation lasted long enough that I was nearly involved in a collision. I pulled out from a stop sign to make a right-hand turn, but the vehicle failed to accelerate as expected. The car behind me nearly rear-ended me due to my sudden lack of movement in the lane. No warning lights, error messages, or other indicators appear before or during the event. I have been reporting this issue to my dealership for over a year during regular service appointments. The dealership has been unable to reproduce the problem and has attempted a software update, which did not resolve it. The malfunction has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives. The issue has occurred multiple times, including but not limited to the following dates: -March 12, 2025 -March 24, 2025 -July 21, 2025 -September 18, 2025 -October 1, 2025 These dates reflect times when I documented the issue via text messages to my husband; it has also occurred on many additional occasions not recorded above. Online owner forums and NHTSA complaints indicate that other Toyota Grand Highlander owners are experiencing the same issue, suggesting it may be a widespread defect affecting vehicle safety.

Vehicle Safety Complaint — 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander My 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander has experienced multiple serious defects, including two official recalls: • 25TA08 — instrument cluster failure • 24TA09 — airbag defect This week, the instrument display failed completely, making it impossible to view speed or system warnings. I’ve been unable to work since then, causing financial hardship for my family. Earlier, I also had to replace the entire drive shaft at my own expense (2,500), which is highly unusual for a new vehicle. These repeated issues raise serious concerns about safety and reliability. I’ve submitted a formal complaint to Toyota Brand Engagement Center, and it has been acknowledged and assigned to a Case Manager. The dealer is still searching for a suitable loaner vehicle that meets my work requirements. Given the severity and recurrence of these defects, I request that NHTSA investigate this pattern and consider whether the vehicle qualifies for buyback or replacement under applicable consumer protection standards. • VIN: [XXX] • Mileage: 96150 miles INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Initially I thought there was an explosion or gun shot but then realized the panoramic moonroof had shattered and I continued hearing shattering. I pulled over the car to make sure I could creat some sort of safety for my son. I took some pictures. There was nothing that touched the glass. It just shattered. This was terrifying.

I live in Arizona and the car has bad gas smell after drive a while(usually between 10-30 minutes) in a hot day (usually afternoon). I took the car to dealership and they replicated the issue and the dealership said Toyota told them it’s due to excessive heat and told us to use better quality gas which we are already getting gas from Chevron and Costco. Seems this is known problem because I saw other grand Highlander owners complained the same issue but Toyota is not doing anything to fix it. They can’t blame on the heat since they are selling the vehicles in AZ/NV. After drive the vehicle during a hot day, park the car in garage and the garage smells like gasoline.

Since purchasing this vehicle when I have driven the vehicle and come home the vehicle smells of gas vapor/fumes. It's so bad the entire garage will fill with the vapor. Im afraid the garage will explode. I have to leave the vehicle parked outside for several hours until the smell is gone. This is a known issue for this car as others have complained about the same thing. Dealership has confirmed it is a known problem. They tried o tell me the first time I took it in that it was due to extreme heat in Las Vegas. I explained that our other vehicle and our friends vehicles don't do this and that is merely an excuse. After researching online I found that several other others in other states have the dame issue. When I recently took the vehicle in for software/radio issue as well as the gas vapor they did confirm it is a known issue. This is a safety issue as it could cause an explosion in small spaces where parked. We have an air conditioner for our garage but even at that it's extremely dangerous. This has happened on several occasions. Most recent is listed below.

My vehicle is part of the recall for the 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander. I have contacted Toyota due to vehicle no longer being considered safe should I be involved in an accident. They advised there is currently no fix for the recall and have no estimated timeframe as to when a fix will become available. I have requested different options to remedy the issue and they are unable to work with me with any reasonable accommodation requests to get me into a safer vehicle until a fix is available. They advised that this is a global recall where millions are affected and they are unable to make accommodations for that many people so we all have to stay put with our current vehicle even though they are shown to be unsafe in accidents. This vehicle was purchased as our family commuter car and we currently have my 4 year old sons dr appts which are 3 hours away that we have to commute to multiple times a week and I do not feel safe traveling with my family in this death trap. Toyotas response to this recall has been less than satisfactory and they are proving to have no concern for the unsafe conditions their consumers are being put in on a daily basis. As a consumer I am paying for a safe and reliable vehicle which I am not receiving, Toyota should be held accountable it should not be the consumers who are left to pay the price possibly with their life. Toyota T-SB-0082-24 / Rotational Clicking Noise From Front Drive Shaft Assembly ( CV JOINT) CV joint defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, especially if it fails while you are driving. An unreasonable risk is one where the potential for harm is much greater than the potential benefit of taking the risk. Driving with a compromised CV joint fits this definition because it can lead to a complete loss of vehicle control, which can result in a serious accident.

The car is not involved in an accident, but TYOTA and the dealership cannot provide an ETA for when the issue will be fixed. It would be great if the vehicle could be returned or traded for another vehicle if there is no fix available. However, without losing my money as the dealership wants to take it less than 10K even it has been less than 3K miles.
