Very limited while driving in the dark cause head lights go off and can’t drive in the rain or snow cause wipers turn off not save for my family and I and other drivers on the road Thai all happen, After the dealer (Lithia Chevrolet of Redding, CA) performed GM recall programming on the Serial Data Gateway Module (SDGM) and related software updates, my truck began having serious electrical failures. Immediately after the recall work, all exterior lights, interior lights, and trailer lights began flickering on and off while driving. The windshield wipers also pause or stop for a moment when this happens. None of these issues existed before the recall. This appears to be a module reset or corrupted calibration caused during the recall reprogramming. GM has already told NHTSA that they have hundreds of field complaints about flickering headlamps on 2024 trucks, and they identified lighting flicker as a safety defect. My symptoms match those issues exactly. The dealer refuses to accept responsibility, saying the recall is “closed,” but the electrical failure only began immediately after their programming. This is a safety hazard when driving at night or in the rain, and it affects the trailer braking/lighting circuits as well. I have an active GM case opened for this issue. The truck is unsafe to operate in this condition. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate whether the recall programming is causing electrical module failures and whether additional action is needed.

  • 12/02/2025· LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES

The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The contact stated that after parking and turning off the vehicle, the tailgate inadvertently unlatched and opened. The contact stated that the failure was caused by a short-circuit in the tailgate electronic gate switch due to water entering the unit. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V894000 (Latches/Locks/Linkages); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to report the failure to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 42,000.

  • 12/02/2023· ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,BACK OVER PREVENTION

On July 1st, 2023, I purchased a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 from Orielly Chevrolet in Tucson, Arizona. On July 2nd, 2023, an error message popped up on the dash, “Park Assist Blocked See Owner’s Manual”. It continued to happen on and off til this very day. The dealership "attempted" to fix the issue, but it obviously hasn't been resolved. Due to equipment being faulty, the chances of an accident whilst back up are significantly increased. At one point on this ordeal, the truck was in the shop for 61 days. It had been in my possession for 18 days. I am currently in the process of a buyback for the vehicle. I had to hire a lemon law attorney. A supervisor from GM advised that GM is refusing a buy back for the vehicle. The vehicle also displayed an error, "key not found" while I was driving at 50mph. A bit unsettling. That error showed up twice on the dash. The dealership said they fixed the issue with a software update. Recently, the vehicle has a ticking noise on the left side of the engine, and the engine idles so low, that it feels like it's going to stall. Those issues haven't been addressed at the shop, because I start a new job on Monday(12/4) and had to drive over 2k miles to get here. Thankfully the truck made it. Not a concern I should have with a brand new vehicle.

  • 11/29/2023· FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL,ENGINE

The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the battery was disconnected temporarily to reset the ECM. The check engine warning light was reset; however, the failure reoccurred while driving. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle was experiencing abnormal fuel consumption. The contact stated that the fuel economy was 8.2 - 9 miles per gallon while driving and hauling a trailer. The contact related the failure to an unknown GM voluntary recall for Faulty Fuel Injector Flow Rate. The dealer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 400.

  • 11/27/2023· ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The contact stated that while hauling a travel trailer at various speeds, the check trailer wiring warning message intermittently flashed on the instrument panel. The contact had taken the vehicle and the travel trailer to the respective dealers; however, neither dealer were able to determine the cause of the failure. Upon investigation, the contact discovered a TSB: 23-NA-113 which he linked to the failure. The bulletin stated that the travel trailer brake might become disabled due to a solar panel battery charger. The contact stated that whenever the trailer battery was fully charged and had a higher charge than the vehicle’s battery, there could be a back feed into the trailer brake power module causing a shutdown. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 1,500.

  • 11/22/2024· VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

While using adaptive cruise control, the system can detect a vehicle and immediately apply the brakes or slow down. In some cases, it may detect a vehicle (the vehicle icon appears) and trigger an immediate red collision light flash, followed by automatic braking. However, during these events, there were no cars ahead of the vehicle. There was no obstruction of sensors or cameras, and the incidents occurred in various weather conditions, including rain, snow, and clear days, both during the day and night. If the road is slick or slippery, this could potentially lead to a loss of control. Additionally, if another vehicle is following closely behind, it could result in a collision.

  • 11/18/2024· POWER TRAIN

The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle briefly jerked and then jolted. The vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, who was unable to duplicate the failure; however, the contact was informed that the power train control module was reset. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was 50.

  • 11/07/2023· ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

The integrate trailer brake control system malfunctions when a trailer equipped with solar panels is hooked up. I recently rented a newer travel trailer and kept on getting a warning that the brake control system was disengaging. Every 30-60 seconds the system would connect and the quickly disconnect. I troubleshooted by hooking up a trailer without solar and the brake controller worked as intended. I also troubleshooted with the trailer by hooking up a 2015 Ford F-350 and the trailer brakes worked as intended. This is a known issue among the 2024 Chevy 2500 and 3500 owners that have reported the same issue. Replacing the trailer control system does not fix the issue.

  • 11/05/2024· EXTERIOR LIGHTING,UNKNOWN OR OTHER

Rear view camera doesn’t display an image in reverse at night. Many reported issues online with Chevrolet and GMC vehicles, model years 2024 and 2025.

  • 11/03/2023· ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

The GM brake controller will disconnect with the trailer being pulled. You get a message on the information center that the brake controller has lost connection with the trailer or no trailer brakes are available, something to that effect. This has happened up to 5 times in one day. You never know when this will happen. Pulling a 7,000lb trailer and not knowing when you will have 'no brakes' is dangerous. I bought the truck to pull my RV trailer, now am afraid too. I brought my truck into a dealer and first was told "the issue is in the trailer". There is a bulletin saying the issue is do to 'the solar panels or solar generator', I have nether, just one lead acid battery. Then was told 'they don't know what they can do'. I've been in contact with other that have the same make, model, and year that is having the same issue ! I now have a very expensive vehicle that I can't do with what it was advertised it could do !!!

  • 10/30/2024· SERVICE BRAKESCrash

I was towing a dump trailer with gravel in it down a gravel road grade (downhill around 5-7mph) and received a warning on the DTC about the trailer brake being disconnected. All of the lights on the trailer were still working, however the trailer brakes no longer functioned and all of the braking was transferred to the truck. The trailer slowly pushed the rear end of the truck around causing the vehicle to jackknife and causing significant damage to the bumper and bed. After researching this post incident, there appears to be numerous complaints and TSB from chevy regarding a faulty brake controller when towing a trailer where the voltage can backfeed into the vehicle causing the vehicle brake controller to disable. Currently working with insurance to come up with a damage quote. Bulletin # 23-NA-149

  • 10/16/2024· POWER TRAIN

Transmission failure on interstate i90, truck down shifted violently and check engine light came on and warning on dash read speed reduced drive with caution. Took truck to gm dealer on August 1 2024 who said the transmission shift solenoid plate has to be replaced. Gm dealer still has my truck as of October 16 2024 and all I they can tell me is that the part is on back order and they have no idea when it will be available. This could have caused a serious accident as I was also towing a 3500 lb trailer at 65mpg at the time with the speed being reduced so quickly by the failure.

  • 10/15/2025· EXTERIOR LIGHTING,VISIBILITY/WIPER

Can not see when driving in reverse in the dark. Camera image appears as a red fog and I can't see a thing. I tried using the rear view mirrors and again could not see anything. Totally driving in reverse in the blind. Absolute safety issue that needs to be addressed. I don't know if this is a camera issue, a lighting issue or both. I have an appointment with the dealership I purchased the vehicle from on 10/23/2025 to address the problem explained above. I purchased this vehicle as a used unit with less than 8,000 miles and this was the first time I had the occasion to operate the vehicle in reverse in the dark.

  • 10/14/2025· POWER TRAIN

The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The contact stated that on one occasion, while attempting to stop the vehicle, the brake was depressed and the rear wheels locked up, and the vehicle jerked extremely hard. The contact stated that when the vehicle jerked, it felt like another vehicle had crashed into the rear of the vehicle. Additionally, the contact stated that on several occasions, while releasing the accelerator pedal, the transmission downshifted extremely hard. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it was diagnosed, and determined that the valve body in the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 10,000.

I kept getting “check trailer wiring” messages followed by a “trailer disconnected” message while towing a trailer and the trailer brakes would not engage. The trailer would “reconnect” and then “disconnect” constantly while driving. I lost my trailer brakes while trying to brake down a hill. Not having working trailer brakes is extremely dangerous.

If our trailer is plugged into the truck the warning "check trailer wiring" pops up. The warning ("check trailer wiring") would display and then the message "trailer connected" would generally happen. The trailer breaks disconnect during this time making it extremally dangerous for us and anyone else on the road if we need to stop quickly. This is not an issue with our new trailer as we pulled it with a 2017 Silverado with no issues.

  • 10/03/2023· ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the message "Check Trailer Wiring - Trailer brakes Disconnected" was displayed on the instrument panel. The contact stated that the failure caused the trailer brakes to fail to engage as needed. The vehicle had been taken to the dealer and it was confirmed to be a known failure however, the cause of the failure was not found. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 1,000.

While driving with a trailer connected the display in the truck will say trailer disconnected. Then the light will go away and come back on. The trailer plug and the trailer are connected and the plug is tight. When this happens the trailer braking system is disabled (trailer has no brakes) I can plug the same trailer to Ford or Dodge with no issues. Have had the Chevy to the dealer 4 times now and they are unable to duplicate the problem. I have researched the problem on the internet and there are a lot of discussions of other people having the same issue. GMC has replaced the trailer control module, but this did not fix my problem. I am at the point the dealer and GMC are giving me the run around. I bought this truck for commercial use and frequently haul trailers. It is very unsafe when the brakes on the trailer are disabled.

I would like to report a hazardous issue with the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado trailer braking power mode. The trailer braking system turns on and off when the loaded trailer is connected; this represents a security hazard since this truck is used for work and we move heavy pieces of metal and glass. This issue was reported several times to the dealership Lou Bachrodt Chevrolet in Coconut Creek, FL. Also, the manufacturer provided a letter indicating the replacement of some parts. As indicated, I took the truck to Lou Bachrodt Chevrolet in Coconut Creek, FL, on [XXX] for the corresponding service; however, the truck is still presenting the same issues. We tried different trailers, including a U-Haul trailer, and still had the same dysfunctionality. Please advise how to proceed. The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the trailer hitch detached. The contact stated that the failure occurred while a trailer was hitched to the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure caused damage to the trailer and a hole in the bed of the vehicle. In addition, the contact performed an inspection of the vehicle and noticed that the trailer hitch was not properly welded. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was confirmed that the metal hitch was not penetrated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the vehicle was diagnosed. The contact was informed that the results could not be disclosed to the contact. The contact stated that because of the failure and not knowing the safety of the vehicle, the vehicle had not been driven since. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The manufacturer requested a third-party investigation. The contact was requested to take the vehicle to the dealer. The manufacturer requested that the vehicle be taken to the dealer so that the third-party investigation could be performed. The vehicle was picked up by the dealer. The contact was informed that the investigation was completed; however, the results were not shared with the contact. The failure mileage was 29,300.

This truck was optioned with the trailer tow package which includes a trailer brake controller. However, if the battery on the trailer is a higher voltage than the truck battery, the trailer brake controller will fail intermittently. This leaves the truck traveling at freeway speeds with no trailer brakes. This is EXTREMELY UNSAFE. GM is aware of the problem and has issued a technical bulleting "23-NA-113 Information on Trailer Brake Disabled or DTC Stored" on June 28, 2023. This is an EXTREMELY hazardous situation and should be resolved immediatlly or the truck owners should be advised to NOT TOW with the trucks until resolved.

The truck stays connected about 30% of the time. 70% of the time we get the following warnings “Check trailer wiring” or “service trailer brakes” and the trailer brakes are disconnected. Grand design has said this is 100% on the truck side. GM needs to find an update for this dangerous problem. We almost got into two crashes on a 2000 mile trip. Multiple people are in the same situation as us.

While pulling fifth wheel camper the the electronic brake controller looses connection and brakes on the trailer do not work leaving only the truck brakes to stop both truck and trailer. General Motors claims this is caused due to the solar panel on the trailer charging the trailer battery more than the truck battery which back feeds into the system. This problem only occurred on the 2024 models. The same trailer was pulled with a 2021 model with no issues. This is a known problem which Chevrolet has a service bulletin stating such. Reference document # 6379278. At this time there has not been a fix. This is a safety hazard because there is no warning as to when the trailer brakes will stop working.

When my fifth wheel trailer is attached via the seven pin plug, the truck intermittently fails to recognize the trailer and I get a warning "check trailer wiring." When I get that warning, the integrated trailer brake controller fails to activate the trailer brakes. After a while I get the message "trailer brakes connected" and then the trailer brake controller activates the trailer brakes. This problem does not occur when the trailer is attached to a different truck. Apparently this is a well-known problem that GM has failed to correct or inform customers about. Please see the comments at [XXX] . This is a serious safety hazard as my trailer brakes have failed to activate while descending some very steep grades in the mountains. The vehicle has, on numerous occasions, gone into a "Check Right Front Turn Lamp" or "Check Left Front Turn Lamp" while operating the turn signals. Vehicle then goes into "hyperflash" on the turn signal indicating a fault when the error message appears and renders the signal non-functional. Vehicle does not return to normal until it is shut off and restarted. Vehicle was taken to dealer for service on this item, the computer was re-flashed with latest software but problem persisted. Dealer indicated they believed there was no issue with the turn signal lights, it was a software issue in the truck. Servicing dealer is Jim Norton Chevrolet in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. I have noted others in internet research with the same model of truck and similar LED lighting equipment experiencing the same fault.

When I hook up my 35' fifth wheel camper to the truck the brake controller from the truck to the camper acknowledges the connection then when I start to drive my truck dash states, "check trailer wiring". This is an extremely dangerous condition. At times I will get a message that states that the trailer wiring is connected then the brakes will work for a short time. I just saw a document ID no 6379278 that was posted on line that states what i said above. It has been back to the dealer a couple of times for this.

When towing my travel trailer with the 2500HD, the electronic trailer brake randomly connects and disconnects while driving. This results in the unsafe operation of the trailer because the brakes aren't functional and puts others at risk if stopping was required during the outage. GM/Chevy has created Document #6379278 which admits that this is their issue but they don't seem to be providing a fix.

Continued loss of trailer lights and brakes. This truck has the tow package installed by the manufacturer and apparently the truck doesn’t recognize or see LED lights causing it to lose the connection between the truck and trailer

The differential, front right axil "housing" is rusted to the point that it is pitting. The rust completely covers the entire right axil housing and does not come close to matching the light corrosion when compared to the rest of the differential or anywhere else on the vehicle. These indicators lead me to believe the housing was in a corrosive environment prior to being installed onto the differential where both the internal and external surfaces of the housing were exposed to same corrosive environment. Several concerns: If the inside of the axil housing is rusted as bad as the outside, the integrity of the axil has been compromised; Internal rust contamination will lead to premature failure; the housing was not properly heat-treated; no vehicle should be delivered brand new with this level of rust on any part. The issue was pointed out to GM shortly after purchased new. The vehicle has been kept in a non-corrosive environment since it was purchased, and GM refuses to assess the internal integrity of the axil housing and refuse to install a new housing. I am cautious about towing heavy loads since I do not want risk towing 21,000 lbs. if or when the housing fails. I have seen other Silverado, 2500 HDs with the same issue. As an experienced Airframe and Powerplant mechanic with automotive experience, I would never allow a vehicle to operate with this level of contamination unless I could confirm the integrity of the housing via nondestructive inspection and thickness measurements. Or should I just start towing and wait to see if it fails?

The contact's husband owned a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 54 MPH, the steering wheel jerked to the left and sent the vehicle over onto the opposite side of the road, where the vehicle struck a steel electric pole. The contact stated that the two front and two side air bags deployed. The Police Department, Sheriff's Office, and the Fire Department were called, and the firemen used the jaws of life to extract the contact's husband from the vehicle. A Police report was filed. Medical attention was needed, and the contact's husband was taken by ambulance and then airlifted to a hospital. The contact's husband sustained a compound fracture to the left forearm, a fractured pelvic bone, fractures to the C5, C6, and C7 in the neck, a fractured first rib, a spine injury, and a left knee injury. After a rain storm the tailgate started malfunctioning. Now it does it all the time even on pure sunny days. It will go up and down randomly without anyone touching a button. It does it so much it drained both batteries, which left the truck inoperable. The dealer said it’s not under the recall that’s out for other trucks and to just bring it up for repair.

Brand new truck, 1st time towing through mountains of Kentucky, we kept getting "check trailer wiring", "trailer brakes disconnected" "service trailer brakes" I did research and took the truck in for service. They found nothing wrong, but said we should get an adapter and gave me the name of two. We had the camper checked as well, no issues. Many complaining on blogs about this issue and many have also been told to get an adapter. Really? why would I need a $200 adapter and the fact they already knew which two I should buy, tells me, they know its an issue with the vehicle. Pretty scary when we had to come to a stop on the freeway and we didn't have trailer brakes. Never had any issues pulling it with our 2021 silverado 1500. This is really dangerous

When truck is connected to a trailer with electric brakes, intermittently a check trailer wiring warning flashes on the dashboard screen. When this happens you do not have trailer brakes. It has happened on multiple trailers with 7 pin connections. I have taken it to the dealer twice with no fix other than GM recommending a non GM trailer receptacle. I have taken my trailer to the dealer and they could find no problems. Basically the 2024 Silverado 2500 HD when hooked to trailers with industry standard 7 pin 12 volt receptacle loses trailer brakes. This condition potentially is fatal and a definite hazard to public safety on roads. problem was reproduced at the Chevy dealership in Pensacola Fl. The problem was reproduced on multiple trailers at Great American RV in DeFuniak Springs Fl.
