Horn has stopped working. A driver was about to change lanes into my vehicle on the highway, and I went to honk my horn to alert them, but it would not work. It is unclear if the issue is with the sensor in the steering wheel, or with the wiring or horn itself. I have continued to test the horn over the next few days and confirmed that the issue is persistent. The lack of a horn meant I was nearly able to avoid an accident by swerving away from the other vehicle. If there had not been a gap in traffic, I wouldn't have been so lucky. The vehicle is available for inspection. I have an appointment with the dealer on Friday 1/3/25 to have this addressed, likely under warranty. No one else has inspected the vehicle at this time, and there are no warning notifications, etc.
- 12/28/2024· VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE
While driving at highway speeds the vehicle will suddenly decelerate forcing vehicles behind said vehicle to make defensive maneuvers to avoid hitting our vehicle. We have taken the vehicle to the dealership twice for this condition. This time we were told it was the EGR valve, but it was on backorder. We are now forced to drive this vehicle until it is repaired.

On Saturday December 16th my vehicle was parked as I was shopping. When I returned to the vehicle and started it, lights began to light up on the dashboard. They included the rear collision, front collision, airbag, parking brake, battery, tires, blind spot, and others. I called Hyundai and they said that they did not receive any communication from the vehicle stating that there was a problem. The front and rear cameras stopped working and I could no longer tell if my turning signals were operational as I didn't hear the normal clicking sound. It was difficult to turn as the steering wheel was tight. When I first went to the dealership, they refused to take a look at the problem. After filing a complaint with Hyundai, I was finally able to take the vehicle in on yesterday. They also are confused because the initial test showed that there was no problem. They now have the vehicle and are trying to find the cause. This is very concerning because in addition to basically driving blind, according to the manufacturer book, continuing to drive with specific light on could cause engine problems. I also was no longer aware of the speed that the vehicle was traveling nor how much going. The dealership says that it will be several days before they can get to the cause. There was no warning prior to all of the lights coming on and the vehicle has not been involved in any accidents.

Horn is inoperable due to internal fault. Horn receives power when button is depressed, relay actuates, but horn does not sound. There is no warning system in place for this fault.
- 12/20/2023· ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
The horn constantly fails and needs to be replaced. This is not only an issue with the Elantra, as I've seen it as a common issue among a range of Hyundai vehicles. Even my local dealership has many horns on hand, as it is so common for them to be replaced, as they stated. I've gone through 2 horns in less than a year. This is complete negligence on Hyundai's part, as the horn is a critical safety feature of any highway vehicle. They replace it knowing it's going to fail, completely disregarding the safety of both the operator and nearby car and foot traffic.

This has happened twice. I brought it to Hyundai in Syracuse and they said they could not find a problem. The problem: While driving the car loses power, when pressing the gas pedal the car stops propelling forward. Safety: The car randomly loses power while driving. This could happen when pulling out onto a highway or railroad tracks etc. Problem been reproduced: It has not been reproduced by a dealer. It's happened twice randomly in the 2 years I've had the car. I did bring it to Hyundai in Syracuse NY but they said they didn't find an issue. Inspection: Hyundai in Syracuse NY checked the car for an issue. No police or insurance. Warning/messages: There were no messages or warnings before it lost power.

On 11/18/ 25 I was driving in highway traffic at 60MPH and car suddenly slowed down to 30MPH. My car would not accelerate no matter how hard I tried. With luck and prayer I moved over two lanes to shoulder...shut off the car for about 10 sec...restarted...and car ran normal again. I When deceleration occurred I saw a notice-symbol light up on the infotainment panel in a black space directly parallel to the total mileage odometer. On 11/21/25 I went to dealer, who checked car out and did not find any problem. I then went online and saw ISLA...Intelligent Speed Limit Assistance...a choice I did not have on my infotainment system. If I had it, I wanted to turn mine OFF. We're scared it could happen again.

Low pressure oil light did not come on until the oil drain plug had completely fallen out. Once the light came on, the vehicle was slowed and came to a stop on the side of the highway within 2 minutes. The car completely shut off as if the battery were dead. It had to be jumped in order to put the car into neutral for the tow truck. The safety issue is that the hwy we were traveling on is 70mph. At no time, did we receive a warning until it was almost too late. The car is currently at an auto repair shop as the engine is most likely catastrophic and due to the car having no power, they want to replace not only the engine but also the 12 volt battery and it's module. The low pressure oil warning should have come on way before the plug completely fell out and the battery should not be dead. The mechanics can't even fathom why an engine would fail quickly and drain the battery as well.

Yesterday my horn ceased working again and someone almost side swiped me. This is the 3rd time on my 2023 Elantra. I have 2 Hyundai Elantras that Have had to send to the dealership to replace the horns multiple times. I had the same issue with my Venue, which appears to have had some type of NHTSA action, and feel that the Elantras should be included on said action as they utilize the same horn components. I received car back drove it for 2 weeks and then same thing happened, this time I was on a busy road when it shut down making loud screeching noise . I let vehicle roll while i struggled to pull over . I had no control over vehicle something is triggering vehicle to shut down . - 10/27/2024· POWER TRAIN,SERVICE BRAKES,LANE DEPARTURECrash
I have been encountering a series of troubling and erratic issues with my vehicle. These problems occur under various driving conditions, including acceleration, steady-state driving, and braking. However, the most prevalent and problematic occurrences seem to transpire during acceleration and braking. During acceleration, I've observed inconsistent behavior. Sometimes, the car shifts smoothly, with minimal torque drop between gears. On other occasions, the vehicle accelerates initially but then abruptly loses all power between gears, resembling the sensation of someone engaging the clutch in a manual vehicle and shifting slowly. This results in a temporary power loss lasting 1-2 seconds, followed by an over-revving and clutch slip, leading to an unintended surge in acceleration. The issues I've encountered during braking typically begin with a chattering noise and vibrations that seem to be an imbalanced or shocked reciprocating mass, I can assume maybe one of the clutches/flywheel . This is often followed by decreased brake pedal linearity, requiring increased brake pedal pressure to stop. This normally results in an unintended aggressive forward jerk just before coming to a stop, akin to someone releasing a clutch on a manual transmission vehicle too quickly when downshifting while the engine speed is too low. One night I went to get diapers for my baby and it was raining and I hit the breaks and the breaks lost control and I crashed into a median wall and my car kept spinning around. Ambulance were called and I was admitted to the hospital with minor injuries.

I was on a delivery yesterday when this first occurred. I put my car into reverse and proceded to back up when my engine cut off suddenly and a loud warning came on , on my dash by the steering wheel it said ... engine off, shift to neutral and restart. That is what I did and it restarted and I continued on with my deliveries. Then the exact same thing happened again today so I called the dealership and they said there is a recall with the isg system that could be the issue but no resolution yet so there's nothing they can do. In the meantime time I can't use my vehicle for work as im a full time food delivery driver and I have to back up into roadways multiple times a day going in and out of driveways and I can't risk my safety or other drivers safety as my car may turn off in the roadway.

1. False Emergency braking when car from back side passing. Today I was driving in the left lane (lane 1) at ~43MPH. There was no vehicle in front of me and I saw a vehicle applying emergency brakes with a message pop up. At the same time there was a small truck passing me from behind in lane 2 at a higher speed than me. Looks like the system is falsely detecting there is a crash from back and applying brakes. Please also see the other users story on below links. Thanks, Anil https://www.carproblemzoo.com/hyundai/elantra/automatic-emergency-braking-problems.php https://www.hyundai-forums.com/threads/2021-elantra-sel-emergency-brake-engages-for-no-reason.680150/

The vehicle applies automatic emergency brakes when another vehicle passes close by from behind in an adjacent lane, when the Blind Spot Collision Avoidance Assist, feature is set to “Active Assist.” The owner’s manual states that this feature operates when the turn signal is turned on in the direction of the detected vehicle. However, my experience shows that the car applies brakes even when the turn signal is off and the vehicle is driving straight within its lane, without changing lanes. As per NHTSA description automatic breaks to be applied if the driver ignores the warning and tries to change the lane. But Hyundai design applies brakes even if car driven within lane without any warning before applying break

There was a recent over the air software update. Since the update, the speed limit shown on the dashboard, does not match the posted speed limit. This causes the cruise control to change from 70mph, to 55mph. This happened a few times, and always at the same place on the PA Turnpike. Yesterday it did it and there was a tractor trailer behind me. When my car started to decelerate, the driver of the truck laid on the horn because he had to react quickly. I am lucky that he did not hit the rear of my car. This is a safety issue! Also, why does Hyundai feel the need to control drivers speed, especially when there is no government mandate to do so.
- 09/24/2025· POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
I am reporting a recurring issue with my 2023 Hyundai Elantra where the low oil pressure warning light illuminates consistently during strong acceleration. This is accompanied by a distinct smoky odor from the vehicle. Based on my research into recall 23V-859, which addresses fire risks from a faulty electronic controller for the oil pump in the Idle Stop & Go system, I believe my vehicle is experiencing a related or identical failure. The symptoms strongly suggest that the defective oil pump controller is malfunctioning under load, potentially leading to dangerous overheating and a short circuit.

Car was breaking hard because of Active Assist despite that no car was in front. It was breaking consistently until I finally was able to disable the Active Assist. Luckily, there was traffic and driving at less than 20mph but this also happened some time last year at the same area where there was no traffic and was going at a minimum speed of 45mph and to have the Active Assist break hard put me at great risk of getting rear ended. I have footage from the dash cam which I unfortunately cannot attach as it's more than the 10MB limit.

2023 Hyundai Elantra SEL. Car has been slow to start this week. When I depress the brake pedal and push to start, it will start then shut off in the middle of starting then I have to try again or it will sputter then fully start but every safety alert and electrical alarm will go off in my car and nothing clears it until I drive for about 5 minutes then they all clear. I went to AutoZone and they said my battery was normal health. When this slow start happens I also notice that my vehicle doesn’t accelerate as well and it feels like it’s trying too hard to the point it will jerk forward even when I’m only lightly pressing the accelerator. I noticed this, 2 winters ago (2024) as well and I thought it was due to the very cold weather we had. Brought it to my sister’s fiancée and he couldn’t find any DTC’s but agreed something felt off. The problem stopped and now it’s the middle of summer 2 years later and doing the same thing, to the point where I’m trying to merge onto I-95 and my car isn’t accelerating fast enough and I almost got rear ended!! It only happens at speeds under 50 and is extremely unsafe to have a vehicle where you don’t know if it will just turn off while you’re driving, stop accelerating or decide to not start that morning!!!

The vehicle is a 2023 Hyundai Elantra N Line purchased from CarMax in February 2026 with approximately 40,000 miles. It currently has approximately 49,000 miles. The vehicle intermittently cuts off, hesitates to accelerate, and jerks/shudders during acceleration. The specific failed component or system is UNKNOWN because CarMax has not yet provided a definitive diagnosis. The suspected problem involves the engine, fuel/ignition system, transmission, electronic throttle, or another powertrain/control component, but this has not been confirmed. The vehicle’s sudden loss of power and hesitation during acceleration creates a safety risk because the vehicle may fail to accelerate when needed, including when entering traffic, changing lanes, or attempting to avoid a hazard. The unexpected cutting off of the vehicle also creates a risk of being stranded or struck by other vehicles. The problem has been reported to CarMax, but to my knowledge it has NOT been definitively diagnosed or confirmed by a dealer or independent repair facility. CarMax has required a diagnosis before proceeding with further assistance, resulting in delays in addressing the defect. I contacted Hyundai regarding the vehicle and was informed that the vehicle’s original sale/in-service date was October 6, 2023, and that Hyundai has no recorded service history at a Hyundai dealership since that date. Hyundai has not yet physically inspected the vehicle for this complaint. The specific warning lamps or diagnostic messages associated with the failure are UNKNOWN. The primary symptoms are the vehicle cutting off, hesitation when accelerating, and jerking/shuddering during acceleration. These symptoms have continued and remain unresolved. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. I am requesting that the vehicle be professionally inspected and that the underlying cause of the loss of power, hesitation, and jerking be identified and documented.

On July 28th 2024, I took my new 2023 Hyundai Elantra to its first oil change at a Take 5 oil change center. They replaced the oil, filter, checked the fluid levels in my car, and topped the fluids off. That evening, I noticed there was a liquid leaking from behind the passenger side tire, and at first thought it was water from the A/C, but in the morning, I noticed a puddle of liquid was under the car. I went back to Take 5 on August 5th and informed them that I believed there was coolant leaking from the vehicle following my oil change. The worker checked and said my coolant reservoir was completely empty, and he refilled the coolant and told me to take it to be diagnosed at a full service auto center. On August 13th I noticed there was a smell of burning metal coming from the engine bay when I turned the car on and took it to a Firestone where they informed me that the radiator cap had failed and was no longer holding the pressure in the radiator, and that almost all the coolant had leaked from my car. I had the radiator cap replaced and kept the original to take to the Hyundai dealership to see if this was a manufacturers defect or the result of improper handling by the Take 5 worker.

The right back and front windows on this car does not work. There are times when all 4 windows do not work and all 4 doors will lock up and cannot be open from inside nor outside. This is a huge safety hazard. I took the car back to the dealer a total of 6 times. They worked on the car 4 of those six times trying to fix the issue which still exist. They finally told me there is nothing more they can do at this point. I said ok then, so it's clear the car is a lemon, so I would like a manufacturers buy back. They have ignored me. This has been going on since March 5th of this year. I took the car to another dealer for a second opinion and was advised the car is a lemon so I should contact corporate. I was provided the contact information for corporate and so I called and made a complaint. Corporate advised they would have reached back out on June 14th of this year, and to this day I have hear nothing back. I am extremely terrified of driving this car because, what is there is a fire or something, and I can't get out of the car? This car is a real safety issue and all I have gotten from the dealer is disrespect over and over and over. At one point I went back to them letting know again I do not want the car and u was asked by one of their sales person if this is about money. How insensitive. I am paying for a car that I can't even drive. I have parked this car since June 25th of this year and have to now be relying on uber or begging persons a ride. Most time it's very inconvenient. The horn is intermittenly failing and was verified by a Weimer Hyundai in Morgantown, WV on XXX. This is a known defect in 2023 Hyundai Elantras and they have issued an extended warranty to address the problem. An absence of a horn is a safety issue as you cannot signal other drivers in emergency situations. It is unlawful to have a horn that does not operate in most states including WV ([XXX]) which is where I currently reside. While a horn is not required by NHTSA , if it is present it must be operable by driver (Safety Standard No. 101, 49 CFR '571.101). For these reasons I am requesting that this should have and should be considered a SAFETY RECALL which is NOT predicated on mileage. By issuing an extended warranty that stops at 120,000 miles Hyundai does not serve those with higher mileage vehicles. It is not fair for a driver to have to pay out of pocket for a KNOWN DEFECT that should have absolutely been addressed as a SAFETY RECALL. Hyundai has been contacted and I was given a case #42976455 and a case manager named Edward. Weimer was incontact with either him or Hyundai directly and they offered to split the cost of $600.00 intead of taking full responsibility. I have no full time job and cannot pay anything (nor should I have to) for a safety issue. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
- 07/19/2023· FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
3 lanes going down to 2 (leftmost closed). I move over to far right lane out of middle lane. No cars ahead of me in right lane. some cars in left lane. In lane for about 100 yards when.... Emergency collision warning appears and warning is made with sound and car pumps to brakes. Nobody was in my lane within 40 yards. Nobody moving into my lane. I have had it slow down and give collision warning when a car moves to right turn lane from right lane and I pass that car. But this time the alert went off and brakes were automatically strongly applied as if I was about to plow into another car without any obvious threat. Dealer checked alerts and no obvious system failures or codes appeared. Turned off automatic braking for now (and as a safety concern, it resets to the default safety braking each time In restart the car). 8:41 AM 7/18/2023
