Hello. Writing to you about a serious safety concern on my 2023 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid. Overnight, I had it parked in my driveway, and this morning, I found it had rolled down the driveway. In addition, because it was plugged in charging overnight, the movement of my van rolling, caused it to pull on the cord and ultimately snapping my charging port. Fortunately,no one was walking at that time as you could understand the concern this would be if this had been the case and my van would’ve harmed someone. I checked my cameras, and it shows the van beginning to slowly roll on its own around 9:40pm until it reaches the end of my driveway. I believe the only reason it did not go any further is because our sidewalk is a bit raised where it meets the end of the driveway, which stopped it from sliding even further than it did. I would like to see if this is a known issue and if not make it aware as this is a serious concern to the public. Also what steps can I take to Chrysler to fix this issue, I don’t feel comfortable now with the car sitting idle in the driveway with kids playing. Also corrected steps to repair the damage to my car. I contacted the dealer and have an appointment scheduled for Friday 12/27/2024. Please see images of damage and start and finish of where the car was and lastly ended up. Please feel free to contact me about this.

Driving on highway in hybrid mode, van lost engine power and coasts to a stop in traffic. Dashboard light says Stop Safely Vehicle Will Shut Off Soon. The engine is effectively off with no motive power available. This happened 4 times in a row over the course of 1.5 hrs on [XXX] from Virginia to North Carolina! We were nearly killed by traffic trying to clear the roadway with no power from the engine whatsoever. Completely unacceptable! - 11/16/2024· POWER TRAIN,ENGINE
While driving on the interstate, we heard a warning chime and a warning about the engine shutting off was displayed, along with the check engine light and a turtle icon, and the vehicle lost engine power. It was just coasting, which made it difficult to get to the shoulder in multiple lanes of heavy traffic. We called emergency roadside assistance who told us it was in limp mode and called for a tow truck. According to the dealership, a sensor in the transmission has malfunctioned and the entire transmission will need to be replaced. This appears to be the same issue for which these vehicles were recalled, so whatever repair Chrysler has done is clearly not effective. Our vehicle was purchased new, after the recall service had been done.
- 11/13/2023· POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
The power train system of our vehicle experienced a critical malfunction, as indicated by the "Service Charging System" error message and engine light on the dashboard, leading to a loss of power in the accelerator. We are willing to cooperate and make the vehicle available for inspection upon request. The abrupt loss of power in the accelerator at a high speed posed an immediate risk to the safety of my wife, two infants, and other road users, necessitating an emergency maneuver to coast to the side of the freeway. The dealer confirmed the error on Oct 30, 2023, and attempted to rectify the issue. Unfortunately, their efforts were not successful, as the problem recurred on Nov 11, 2023, after the vehicle was returned to us. The vehicle has undergone inspections four times. The first inspection occurred at the dealer on Oct 29, 2023. Subsequent inspections took place at the dealer on Oct 30, 2023, Nov 6, 2023, and are scheduled for Nov 14, 2023. Despite these thorough inspections, the recurring issue has not been successfully resolved. We remain open to facilitating any further inspections required for a comprehensive investigation. The vehicle was bought brand new with 12 miles on the odometer at the dealer with an illuminated engine light on Oct 29, 2023. Despite attempts to rectify the issue, the warning message persisted, and the incident on the freeway occurred on Nov 13, 2023. If you require any additional information or clarification, please do not hesitate to reach out. We expect urgent attention to this matter to ensure the safety of all Pacifica Hybrid owners. In addition, when applying the brake pedal, the vehicle would take an extensive amount of time before coming to a stop. The contact stated it felt as if the hydraulic fluid was low despite there being no leak. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to diagnose the cause of the failure. The vehicle had not been repaired for the brakes and gear shifter. The back-over prevention camera had been replaced but the failure persisted. The vehicle was returned to the dealer however had not been diagnosed or repaired. - 09/28/2023· ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
My air conditioner went out in my car three weeks after purchase. I took it to the dealership. They replace several parts and said that there was an electrical issue they ran into. They said they had to get approval from Chrysler engineering in order to replace the part. The car was in the dealership for over a month. Other findings state that the air-conditioning unit was low on Freon. And several fuse arrays were not working properly. The car had apx 1600 miles on it when I had to take the car back to dealership for the AC issue . The dealership gave me back to my car after one month in the service department. On my way home. The car suddenly told me to get to a safe place as car was going to stop. I had to call Law Enforcement to move me out of an intersection, as well as called my roadside assistance to have it towed to the nearest dealership.
- 09/09/2024· POWER TRAIN
Fourth time! Car suddenly shut down on highway with message to stop safely soon. I retrieved codes which were PAO78. I do this every time since these codes will clear when power is removed from the vehicle. The dealer says there is nothing they can do since codes are no longer there when I bring it in. This car is UNSAFE when this happens on the highway.
- 08/27/2024· SEATS
Part number 68324912AC on both 2nd row seats has failed. The plastic housing encasing the spring broke on top for one seat, and on bottom for the other seat. Now the seat back does not lock in position. When the seat back tilts far enough forward, the seat slides freely forwards and backwards. I have called a few dealerships and no one has the part in stock. It is on back order due to the number of vehicles that have had this problem. Luckily the the parts broke before we were driving and we noticed the issue before someone sat in those seats. Otherwise, they could have been injured just from normal braking, and would not have been safe in an accident.

I bought a new 2023 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid in March 2024. In April 2024, mileage 2,301, while driving on neighborhood roads, this warning message appeared: "Stop Safely Vehicle Will Shut Off Soon" and the Engine Check/Malfunction Indicator Warning light illuminated. I had about 15-30 seconds to pull over and then the vehicle lost all power. All warnings were gone the next morning so I hoped it had been a glitch. 3 days later it happened again (mileage 2,559). I didn't think it was a glitch anymore so I had the vehicle towed to an authorized Chrysler dealer. STAR (Chrysler) advised them to check PIM connectors and return the vehicle to me. I had been unable to drive the vehicle for 15 days. Less than a month later, mileage 3,933, it happened again. I had it towed again to the same dealer. This time STAR advised and approved replacing the transmission. This incident added 28 days of being unable to drive the vehicle, for a total of 43 days. 23 days later, while driving on an out-of-state highway, mileage 5,012, it happened again. This was extremely dangerous since we were driving at highway speed and did not have much time to pull over before the vehicle shut off. I had it towed to an authorized dealer near where I was staying out of state. That dealer performed repairs even though I didn't authorize any. I have no reason to believe that Chrysler can fix the problem.

I was told by the service advisor that the camera was a poor connection and simply plugged back in but they were unable to reproduce the UConnect issue and that it was currently working. On [XXX] I started the vehicle in my driveway and it immediately entered "limp mode" with a large red turtle appearing on the dash and the check engine light illuminated. The vehicle would not drive greater than 5mph and posed a safety risk on the road so was towed to the dealer. The hybrid battery coolant hose was replaced and I picked up the vehicle on [XXX]. The diagnostic code relayed to me was P0C44-00. On [XXX], I started the vehicle in a family member's driveway and it again entered limp mode with the red turtle and check engine light displayed. I bought a new 2023 Chrysler Pacifica Pinnacle from the dealership with 20 miles on it. The next day, I was driving the car and exiting the highway when it said “rear safety alert, vehicle will shut off.” The car turned off and my kids and I were stranded on the highway exit blocking traffic. I called the dealership and they picked it up to try to see what was wrong. I was told it needed a new battery from sitting in the dealership for months . We considered trading in the car since I know longer felt safe, but I trusted them to fix it and make it safe. Once I got the car back, within 24 hours it did the exact same thing and shut down while entering the highway this time. The car is currently at the dealership again. We are currently on a family vacation going from CA to Nebraska and our 2023 Chrysler Pacifica hybrid completely shut down on us while driving through Las Vegas. A warning came up on the dash stating “slow down, engine will be shutting down”. We were on a main freeway and almost got hit because of this. We had our two kids in the car and are so upset this happened especially because we just bought the vehicle in May 2024 and this is the second time this has happened to us. We had to pay for a rental vehicle out of pocket to continue our trip and get our van towed to a nearby dealership in Las Vegas. It is currently sitting at the dealership and we have no idea how long it’s going to take to get fixed or how we are going to get it back to CA.

The check engine light came on suddenly and the vehicle stopped while driving down street. The dashboard read Park car safely. Engine is going to shut down. Mechanic stated it was an internal short in the transmission control module.

Dash displayed "no bus" at the range level along with every error message possible. All of a sudden it goes haywire. Can't tell what speed you're going, you can put gas to floor and no acceleration, power steering comes and goes, wipers turn on and off, let go of the brake and it accelerates on its own, you name it. Van will not shift in and out of gear and will not turn off even when holding down start button. We've taken it in three times second and third time was towed in, and now it's happening again. They can't find anything wrong with it (other than 60+ error codes). They reset the codes and then drive it and say it didn't happen to them so they have no answers. Third time taking it in they were able to reproduce the problem but don't have a definitive fix. Turning it on and off doesn't help, it happens each time at random points after turning back on (either immediately or a mile or two later). No idea the rhyme or reason as to when it happens that we can tell. I'm very glad it hasn't happened on the freeway! Because it's really unsafe. Last drive before the tow the hazards didn't even work.

Both times, the car flashed a warning to “Stop Safely, vehicle will shut off soon” and then within 20 seconds I lost all power to the vehicle and struggled to get to the side of the road. After approximately 20 minutes of sitting there, the vehicle started again and drove normally. I understand there was a recent recall for this issue and it appears this is a continuation of that. This vehicle put my family’s life in danger twice in the past 7 days. Something needs to be done

While driving in heavy traffic in a construction zone of a two lane highway my vehicle alerted me to get over and stop because my vehicle was shutting down. The vehicle then slowed down more and more without break lights, causing vehicles to come up to my vehicle closely and almost hit me. Due to the construction there was no immediate place for me to pull over. I had to drive 3/4 of a mile like this with my child in the car. I was finally able to get to an on ramp with shoulder and pull over. We are lucky we were not plowed into by another car while this all was happening, or while we were waiting by the road. This issue is directly related to an apparent known issue on these cars, but not known to us.

This is a new 2023 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid, it's only 1k miles and 1 month after the purchase, I experienced a sudden loss of power while driving in the afternoon on 6/20, there was a warning light that beeps and tells me I'm about to loss power. Fortunately I am still half mile away from freeway entrance, and I just stopped at a red light blocking vehicles behind me.... the car wouldn't start for a few minutes, and I finally get it to start after I open and close the door. The engine light has been on since the incident, and eventually went away the next day morning on 6/21, right before I dropped it off at dealership to get it checked. They read the code and confirmed it was transmission. The dealer told me they will know what to do by mid next week, and if a new transmission is needed it will be a few more weeks before it can be fixed. There was no loaner car, and Chrysler only gave me $40/day allowance for rental car which is not nearly enough to get any small car, let along a minivan.

The contact owns a 2023 Chrysler Pacifica Plug-in Hybrid. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed with the granddaughter seated in the rear driver's seat, the seat unexpectedly fully reclined and slid back and forth. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 18,062.

I was driving on a busy road and my 2023 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid told me "stop safely vehicle will shut off soon" and then it shut down in a matter of seconds, leaving my child and me in a dangerous spot. We were stuck in the middle of a busy road with cars whizzing around us and needing to make last minute lane changes. My car had only 2,037 miles on it when this occurred and already needs a new transmission. Prior to this, it had already been in service 4 times in 4 months. The Chrysler app shows that the vehicle has an "engine malfunction."

I was driving the van a day after I bought it with only 42 miles on it, was going to make a turn onto a busy road and the car made a horrible noise and suddenly stopped. After a minute the 03A "fix" came on warning me to pull over safely but the car had stopped on it's own and would not restart, it was dead. Had I been on the highway when it happened it could have ended very badly.

We purchased a brand new car and we have driven just 778 miles. Below are the things happened suddenly while driving on highway on our long planned trip and it screwed up entire journey. 1. Instrument cluster suddenly shown the error “service charging system” in the middle of highway when I was driving in 70 mph speed and the vehicle started applying heavy breaks automatically and speed dropped down from 70MPH to 25MPH in 5-6 seconds. Engine light is on as well. I’m unable to accelerate. Somehow luckily I was able to pull the car to right shoulder. We were scared that we will be in an accident due to sudden brake. 2. I tried stopping the car and then starting. It shown the same error couple of times. 3. After couple of times, I tried to press brake and push on start button, the brake hit me back and I’m unable to press the brake at all. 4. Instrumentation cluster shown series of messages like below.. a) Keyfob not detected in the car - We are still in the car and key fob is with us in the car b) Hybrid system not working 5. After some time car wipers automatically started and wiping very slowly. It could be because the battery is low and we are shocked to see why the wipers are started though there is no rain and also the Wipers control is in Off position only. 6. We in the car are shell shocked and my pregnant wife is still in trauma even after a week thinking about the incident. After calling SOS, the vehicle has been towed to nearest Heritage CDJR Dealer of Harrisburg. But they are not ready to inspect the vehicle right away. We waited for 4 hours and then we had to take the rental vehicle to restart our journey. It's been a week and the car is still with the Dealer. I along with my pregnant wife and 5 year old kid spent almost stranded for 8 hours during this entire drama. I have raised case with Chrysler as well. No update from the dealer service department though. This is a defect piece I received and I never wanted to drive again keeping life at risk

I have had this van for just under a year. While driving on the freeway last year, it gave me a warning to pull over and that the van would shut down soon. When I took it to the dealership, the check engine light had turned off and I was told there was nothing they can do. On a recent 1000 mile family trip, we had the same thing happen 5 times. The van has currently been at the dealer for over two weeks and they are not able to tell us what is wrong with the van. This is a huge risk for safety as I was driving on the freeway at 70 mph with my family in the car and had no idea if I would be able to get out of traffic before the van shut down.
- 04/15/2024· VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
I engaged the speed control (NOT adaptive speed control, also equipped on this car), and set my desired speed. I pressed and held the SET+ button to increase speed, as demonstrated at 1:27 on this video [XXX] from Mopar for an older model of this vehicle. When I released the button, the car continued to accelerate. Pressing Cancel or disabling speed control stopped the acceleration. This behavior is repeatable. I tested it several times on that drive cycle, and again on subsequent drive cycles. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The contact owns a 2023 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid. The contact stated that while his wife was driving 70-75 MPH, the message "Stop Safely. Vehicle Will Shut Off Soon." was displayed, and a chime sounded. Additionally, the check engine warning light and the turtle warning light were illuminated. The contact's wife was able to pull to the side of the road. The contact stated that after his wife turned off and restarted the vehicle, the message was no longer displayed; however, the check engine warning light remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the cause of the failure could not be determined. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V010000 (Electrical System, Hybrid Propulsion System) and NHTSA Action Number: PE22008 (Power Train). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the dealer for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 9,832.

Vehicle lost power with no prior warning at highway speeds. Vehicle then displayed "Stop Safely Vehicle will shut off soon" message. In order to attempt a reset, driver must turn off, leave vehicle with FOB and secure vehicle. Then return to vehcile and start up in an attempt to reboot. Check engine light remained, but functioned nromally for a day. Vehicle did the same on another freeway at 70 mph, and continued with the same events above several times, some producing immediate repeat message, or other times getting a half mile down the road. Depending on availability of a shoulder or center divide, this is extremly dangerous to fail unexpectedly on the highway. In California there are freeways with over 6 lanes, try getting across 6 lanes of traffic with no power, in limp mode. Vehicle is now at dealer awaiting diagnosis and repair. I continued with the vehicle when the tow truck service via Chrysler corporate stated 60 -90 min response. My saftey was more of a concern if I had to wait that long.
- 03/15/2024· STEERING
It is possible to start the 2023 Pacifica and put it into Reverse and not be able to steer it, and have done so, and can easily recreate the issue repeatedly. Engine is on. Shift knob is on R. If vehicle is on a slope, it will drift down the slope (backing up in my case) and the steering wheel is locked and even though in Reverse, the drive train does not engage. In this instance, I've duplicated many times, it is as though it is in Neutral while steering wheel is immobile. Dealer (New Holland Auto Group, New Holland, PA) serviced it and told me there was nothing done, as they were able to replicate the issue as well. IF staying on the brake during the Start and Gear Selection, everything is working normally. If changing gears while not on the brake, which I have never experienced with any other vehicle ever, this is when the the above situation occurs. I have seen other similar reports on this issue on the Web.

This is the second time we received an alert that our 2023 Pacifica Hybrid minivan while driving sends an alert message to STOP SAFELY VEHICLE WILL SHUT OFF SOON. A green Turtle and Red Hazard Triangle image accompanied the message. First time it occurred was Friday 3/7/2025 and again after servicing on 3/14/2025. Both times the vehicle was traveling at a lawful speed of 65 to 70. The first time it lost power and in order to get to side of road safely the gas pedal had to be pushed to floor to get a reaction and any power. The second time the power seemed to stay until we got to side of road. After turning vehicle off and then on- them message was off but the check engine light remained steadily on. Then upon restarting a second time after driving to dealer it turned off and stayed off. Dealer stated they could not get vehicle to demonstrate any issues and found a stored code that showed only P06DE and No Active Faults. Car appeared to drive fine until the second incident on 3/14 when it occurred again. We have video of codes

Vehicle had been operating less than 5 minutes. When I was on an on-ramp for a left entrance to a highway, several warning lights illuminated in addition to messaging on my dash. The car entered "turtle mode" which extremely limited the speed of the vehicle. I immediately pressed the button for my hazard lights to come on, but they did not operate correctly. They flashed so rarely that they did not warn vehicles behind me that I was having an incident. During this incident, the vehicle speedometer was inoperable, displaying "-- --" instead of a speed. I was lucky to be able to pull to the shoulder, but with the narrow shoulder and my child in the car I felt safer limping off the highway using primarily the shoulder. I was terrified and had some cars nearly hit me/honk as I was going approximately 10 miles per hour on a 55mph roadway. I have seen similar reports on online forums for chrysler pacifica minivans, so I am not the only one to encounter the issue. The vehicle has also at times refused to go into gear while in Park, which is a related problem but I don't deem it a safety issue. The problem is intermittent and the service center is able to see 'codes' when they examine the vehicle but as the issue is intermittent they have returned the car to me twice with no repairs performed since it didn't occur while they had it. The warning lights and turtle mode occurred simultaneously or within a few seconds. I have a video during the incident. I can see the fuel gauge needle rising and falling wildly, turtle mode, a picture of a wrench, check engine, parking brake, brake, collision avoidance, ABS, and others. Each time the vehicle has gone in for service they have seen and cleared codes but they did not come back immediately, so no repairs were attempted. It is in the shop again currently and I have escalated to the manufacturer to hopefully get greater assistance.

[XXX] Hi Team, I recorded this video on my New 2023 Pacifica Hybrid Limited which I purchased on Jan 17th.(I traded my 2017 Honda CRV EXL and remaining amount Financed with bank) The very next day I got these alerts while it was parked in my garage, The vehicle freezes all of a sudden, the bunch of alerts popup saying the safety features unavailable like, Blind spot Monitoring, Active lane keeping, cross traffic alerts, forward collision, etc. At the steering doesn't move. I took to the Dealer on Jan 18th and they were not able to figure what was going on, it was with dealer for 3 days 1/18, 1/19 and 1/20. The Dealer cleared the Check Engine light and gave back the vehicle. On Jan 22nd, the second time I got, I recorded as a proof of the issue to show the Dealer. The Vehicle is with Dealer (https://www.jaxcjdr.com/)as of now. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

We were driving on the freeway, 65 MPH, 0% battery life. Warning came on the dashboard stating something like “ Pull over safely, engine will stop”. Engine had already stopped and we luckily avoided impending doom and pulled off to the side of the highway. Turned car off, waited a couple min, and started the car again. Car turned on with check engine light. Able to slowly get to the next exit. Next morning, took to dealer. After two days, they said it needed a NEW transmission?! Still waiting after 2 weeks. 2023 Chrysler Pacifica. 17,000 miles.
