After just getting our vehicle back on 12/11/25 from our incident on 11/9/25 when my wife was driving at 70 MPH on the highway when the engine blew the first time. Approximately 1300 miles later and 15 days after we picked up the vehicle when I was merging onto the highway the vehicle had a sudden power loss and a smell that filled the cabin. We were able to drive to the next exit and while the vehicle was idling it sounded awful. The check engine light started to flash along with the TCS light and the collision warning lights. After getting to a parking lot when called OnStar to tow our vehicle to the closest dealer. I have not received any updates yet but it is very similar to what happened the first time when the engine needed replaced.
- 12/23/2025· SERVICE BRAKES
I was driving to work last Wednesday, and I live on a hill. As I was driving, a "Brake failure" alert came over my dash and I lost all control of my brakes!!! I live right off of Main Street, and my options were only to go straight and into a house, or to turn onto Main Street and hope no one hits me or that I don't hit another vehicle. I turned and thankfully no one was coming. At the end of that street I was able to coast into an closed down gas station and park the vehicle. I called the dealership I had purchased this vehicle from 10 months prior, and they told me I had to use OnStar to have it towed to them. I did that, and they towed it to the dealership. The next day the dealership told me the cause of losing my brakes was due to a SOFTWARE UPDATE that was needed!!!!! They charged me $800 for the update & a battery that they said was not holding the charge, which I've never had an issue with. I had purchased an extended warranty with this vehicle and I was told it would be a bumper to bumper warranty AS IF I had purchased it new (it was 2 years old). The dealership said this was not a critical software update and was not covered under any warranty. I could have been KILLED or seriously injured or killed or hurt someone else due to my brakes going out due to a SOFTWARE UPDATE that was needed!! This is insane!
- 12/04/2025· SEAT BELTS
The vehicle was purchased brand new from the manufacturer. Because the third-row seating was rarely used, it was not immediately apparent that the car was delivered without one of the required seatbelts. Once the issue was discovered, it was promptly reported to the manufacturer. However, the customer service representative refused to address the problem, stating that the warranty period had expired. This is a serious safety hazard. A missing seatbelt poses a significant risk of severe injury or death in the event of an accident, and it requires immediate corrective action.

Multiple time the full safety camera system has failed. The front rear and 360 degree view camera have intermittently failed multiple times. Restarting the vehicle has had no effect on restoring functionality of the very vital rear back up camera, front camera, parking and pedestrian sensors. This is a random occurrence, has happened at least 5 separate occasions since purchase, and occurs intermittently. Date is the last time this issue occurred.
- 11/29/2025· ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Since purchasing the car in March 2023, the battery has died 5-7 times. We contacted our dealer and they claimed nothing wrong and the battery was fine. We have contacted them about this issue and there is no fix. They performed an update in June 2025 which was supposed to fix it but it didn’t. The latest it has died is November 25. There was nothing left on for the battery to die. I have 4 children and it’s starting to get very cold outside. I live in a rural area with poor cell reception. I am worried I’ll be stranded somewhere with a new baby and 3 younger children.

- 11/27/2025· SEAT BELTS
While driving a 2023 Chevrolet Suburban (VIN: [XXX] ), my [XXX] son was seated in the second-row center seat and was properly buckled in with the factory shoulder/lap belt. He turned around briefly to grab something from the back of the vehicle, and during that movement the seatbelt fully extended and then locked in the automatic locking mode. The retractor would not release tension afterward. The belt continued tightening around his torso, and no amount of slack could be pulled back out. The belt became so tight that he was unable to breathe comfortably or free himself, and the locking mechanism would not disengage even after the vehicle was stopped and turned off. The seatbelt remained fully cinched and would not retract or loosen under any circumstances. Because the belt created a serious entrapment hazard and my child could not safely be removed, I was forced to cut the seatbelt to free him. This appears to be a dangerous malfunction of the seatbelt retractor/locking system and presents a significant safety risk, especially for children who may shift or turn in their seats during normal use. While driving on the highway at night during rainy conditions the wipers stopped in the up position, and at the same time, the headlights turned off. After a few seconds they resumed normal operation. My headlights were in the auto position and my wipers were also in the automatic setting. Being as that I was on a highway at night, in the rain, and going approximately 65mph surrounded by traffic, this was an extremely dangerous situation to be in. Without headlights and windshield wipers, my windshield was immediately obstructed and I was unable to see the road without headlights. More so, other traffic might have had trouble seeing my vehicle. This problem has not been replicated by myself or a dealer. It has been random in nature. When the incident happened, there were no warning lights on the gauge cluster or anything else inside the vehicle that seemed to be affected.
- 11/17/2025· ENGINE
My 2023 Chevrolet Suburban High Country (VIN: [XXX] ) suffered a sudden and dangerous engine failure while my wife was driving 70 mph on the interstate returning from our child’s sled hockey tournament in Ohio. The vehicle gave no warning lights, alerts, or diagnostic messages before the failure. While driving in the right lane, the vehicle began losing power and making a loud noise. My wife exited the highway and contacted OnStar, who told her the tow would take over an hour and only cover three miles to closest dealer, leaving her stranded in an unsafe area. She attempted to carefully reach a nearby dealership. During this attempt, the vehicle completely shut off and she lost all engine power. The vehicle lost all power making the final turn into the dealership coming to rest in the middle of oncoming traffic of a four lane road. The Suburban would not restart. A tow truck arrived and transported the vehicle to a dealership. When they arrived, the tow driver noticed smoke and a strong burning odor coming from the engine compartment and told her to move away from the vehicle because it could potentially catch fire. The vehicle was left in the lot with the hood open and positioned away from the building for safety. The dealership has determined the engine suffered a catastrophic failure and requires complete replacement. Multiple related components may also be affected. This occurred on a vehicle with only 54,000 miles that was purchased three months earlier. This incident created a serious safety risk for my wife, who was nearly stranded on an interstate and had to maneuver a powerless vehicle across several lanes of traffic. I am reporting this to NHTSA due to the sudden failure at highway speed, lack of warning, and potential fire hazard. - 11/09/2023· TIRES
Vehicle had 14,000 miles and tires were rotated by dealership twice, last one 3 weeks ago. Was driving 55 mph and had a sudden complete deflation and stopped immediately. Tire is completely separated. The outer sidewall is completely separated from the rest of the tire. The tire has never had an injury or other issues. The tire rotation was at Gerry Lane Chevrolet in Baton Rouge, LA. I took the tire in the same day to Gerry Lane Chevrolet service department and they were not helpful. They did not even look at the tire. I am having all 4 tires replaced tomorrow at Costco and will keep the damaged tire and 3 others for any forensic evaluation by your department or designate. I am concerned that this maybe the canary in the coal mine and if there is a manufacturing defect other lives may be at risk. Look forward to urgent follow up. Continental tire has had similar problems with sudden blowouts. 14000 miles properly maintained.

- 11/06/2025· ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
My 2023 Chevrolet Suburban with the 5.3L V8 engine has experienced lifter failure twice within less than [20,000 miles]. Both times the vehicle developed a misfire, engine belt like noise and was diagnosed by the Chevrolet dealership as having collapsed AFM/DFM lifters. All oil changes have been done at the dealership using GM-approved oil. The issue appears to be a known problem on 2021–2023 GM vehicles with the 5.3L L84 engine. GM has a technical service bulletin (PIP5776H) regarding lifter collapse, but no permanent fix has been provided. I am concerned this could lead to engine failure or stalling while driving, creating a safety hazard.

I drove a 2019 Ford Explorer with Ford Sync, which integrated well with my Android phone to allow handsfree access to Google Maps or Waze for navigation, voice control of my phone for speech-to-text, simple Google queries, like "who wrote the song American Pie," etcetera. Steering wheel controls could also be used to make or disconnect phone calls. It was a very safe, efficient, satisfying, hands-free driving experience provided at no-cost. Unfortunately, I traded that vehicle in on a 2023 Chevy Suburban, which has an Android Auto based infotainment system. This system can be safe and efficient, but ONLY IF YOU PAY A SUBSCRIPTION. Otherwise, it is VERY UNSAFE. Things that won't work without a subscription include: "Hey Google" voice commands, steering wheel phone controls, instrument cluster road speed display. There are workarounds for some of these items, such as pressing the microphone icon in the infotainment center to initiate voice commands, but these workarounds require the driver to take their attention away from driving.
- 09/07/2026· ENGINE
The vehicle experienced an initial incident of significant engine power loss while traveling at highway speeds approximately two weeks prior to the eventual complete engine failure. During that incident, the vehicle unexpectedly lost engine power while traveling at speeds exceeding 65 mph. On Thursday, September 3, 2026, a second incident occurred within approximately one-half mile of leaving my residence. The vehicle again experienced a significant loss of engine power. I had already notified the dealership of the this occurrence and had a scheduled appointment for repairs the following day. I was attempting to drive the vehicle to the dealership as planned. Shortly after leaving my neighborhood, I stopped at a nearby gas station after the vehicle displayed a "Low Oil Pressure" warning on the dashboard. I also subsequently received an email notification from OnStar identifying diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P0016. The vehicle was then driven again and subsequently experienced a catastrophic and complete loss of engine power while traveling at highway speeds above 65 mph. Following this failure, the engine would not turn over or crank and the vehicle could not be restarted. The sequence of events is significant because the vehicle had previously experienced engine power loss at highway speeds, the dealership had been notified of the initial incident, and the vehicle was being driven to the dealership for its scheduled repair appointment when the second power-loss event occurred. The vehicle subsequently suffered complete engine failure. I am documenting these events, including the dates, circumstances, dashboard warning, OnStar diagnostic notification, and sequence of failures, for purposes of establishing the history of the vehicle's mechanical problem and the circumstances leading to the catastrophic engine failure.

Complete engine failure on 2023 Chevrolet Suburban 6.2L. On October 31, 2024 while on the interstate. The truck shut off twice with no warning. I was able to make it to the side of the interstate twice to restart. The truck was taken to Serpentini Chevrolet and they stated no issues were found and send the vehicle back on the road. On December 13,2024 while on a state route, speed limit 55, 12,231 miles the Suburban abruptly slowed down and violently started to shake and knock. I pulled off to the side of the state route and waited approx 2 hours for the vehicle to be towed. The vehicle was towed to Serpentini Chevrolet and they stated the engine was blown and needed replaced. The vehicle was at the dealership until February 13, 2025 when the engine was replaced. The recall was released in April 2025 at which time the vehicle was taken in for the oil change “repair”. The truck now has 20,200 miles and is lacking power and starting to shake when accelerating from 0-50mph. I will be scheduling additional service in the coming week. While going through the blown engine, GM stopped responding to emails, did not compensate for months of payments I incurred while they had the vehicle and they are still selling unsafe vehicle.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? - Initially, the vehicle began making loud 'clanking' sounds from the engine, which immediately affected the ability to drive the vehicle. Upon further inspection by a third-party mechanic, it was determined that the Crank Shaft had malfunctioned. This is a known recall for our vehicle type (model, year, engine), however, no recall notice has been received at this time. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? - The vehicle was slowing abruptly while in drive mode, potentially causing a vehicular accident. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? - Yes, we did not deliver the vehicle to a dealer, as no assistance was initially offered when we made an attempt to call and inquire. However, a third-party mechanic was able to determine the issue. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others? - Not at this time, as the dealer we initially inquired with did not seem inclined to assist. We consulted with a third party. Were there any warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? -No. Failure messages or icons came on after the engine failure began

- 08/27/2025· ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
My vehicle suddenly stalled while driving. I later replaced the battery and discovered the telecom module was damaged, making the OnStar system inoperable. GM disagreed with my warranty claim and required me to replace the module at my own expense. I discovered the same issue is common in various GM models from 2023-2025. My Suburban and Yukon both have the same issue, making them defective. However, GM will not provide a free replacement under warranty.
- 08/23/2026· ENGINE
My 2023 Chevrolet Suburban equipped with the 3.0L Duramax diesel engine (LM2) has experienced a recurring engine oil leak involving the rear main seal/lower timing cover area. The vehicle has required repeated dealer repairs for substantially the same oil-leak condition, including major engine-related disassembly, but the leak has returned after repair. This is a safety concern because failure of the rear main seal or lower timing cover sealing system can result in loss of engine oil while the vehicle is being operated. A significant oil loss could potentially cause loss of oil pressure, engine damage or engine failure and resulting loss of propulsion while driving. Leaking engine oil also has the potential to contact hot engine or exhaust components, creating an additional safety concern. The problem has been inspected and confirmed by authorized GM dealerships and documented on multiple repair orders. This does not appear to be an isolated occurrence on this vehicle because substantially the same engine oil leak has required repair more than once. GM has previously issued service information, including Bulletin PIP5795, concerning rear main oil leaks on 3.0L LM2 Duramax engines where the rear main oil seal may move or become severely shifted out of position in the timing chain lower cover. I am concerned that repeated repair of this condition may not adequately address the underlying cause and that the oil leak could recur while the vehicle is being driven. I am requesting that NHTSA review complaints and repair data involving rear main seal/lower timing cover oil leaks on GM 3.0L Duramax-equipped vehicles to determine whether a broader safety-related defect exists.

Its been over a month and the dealership is unable to remedy this defect. I also called GM and they said the recall in incomplete and its in the preliminary stage. We are concerned that this is a serious safety recall and GM will not offer alternative solutions in a reasonable time.

We purchased a 2023 Chevy Suburban in January of 2026. In May the vehicle shut off on me at a stop light. The check engine light flashed after I was able to restart it. I took it to the dealer and they said they "couldn't recreate the issue" even though there was an engine misfire code on all cylinders. They told me to come pick it up and bring it back if I had further issues. The second time this happened I had issues getting the vehicle started. This was June 2026 Once I finally got it started and was driving all the service lights started going off and the check engine light started flashing. I took it to a different chevy dealer and was told the same thing. This time I had 23 different service codes that showed up. Including the engine misfire code. So we picked it up and continued to drive it. On July 10th we were towing a 7k lb camper home when we lost all power. Thankfully we weren't driving fast and we're able to stop. This left us stranded at a busy intersection for 2 hours. The car would not go out of neutral. Had we been going 70 on an interstate we could have very seriously been hurt. The car had to be towed back to the dealership where we were told the engine locked up and needed to be replaced. My husband and I had our [XXX] child in the backseat with us. This was a family car that we purchased and told twice that they couldn't find anything wrong with it. The vehicle has been at the dealership waiting on a motor since July 11th. The fuel pump module on this vechicle failed, and there's a recall for 2021 I believe other years should be considered as well since this was a known issue as soon as we arrived at the dealership and they wanted over $400 to replace this part which is only $45.

Our Chevrolet suburban has 57,000 miles on it. We have started getting a check engine light and I’m getting code P1098 for the cooling control valve. This is a very common issue on these vehicles I’m noticing now. From what I’m reading in February of this year (2025) gm gave this issue an e code so these valves would no longer be covered pay the powertrain and they would now fall under emissions for a much shorter warranty coverage. This has been and ongoing issue since 2020. These valves are also commonly found to be on national back order causing long lead times and driving of the vehicles without properly functioning. GM knows these are and issue and shortening the warranty is not the fix. These vehicles weren’t bought with a short warranty and shouldn’t be able to be reduced to a short warranty.

Issue: The vehicle intermittently displays a “Key Not Found” or “No Key Detected” message on the dash and refuses to start, despite both original factory-issued key fobs being present and having fresh batteries. The issue began in summer 2023 and has progressively worsened. The vehicle has stranded our family multiple times, sometimes requiring a tow, family impact, missed obligations. Luckily for all urgent needs like trips to the ER or Urgent care, we were able to use our other vehicle, but we no longer have that vehicle and it is important that our sole vehicle be a reliable one. Impact: •Two emergency room visits and multiple urgent pediatric appointments affected •Forced to rely on one family vehicle for months •Paid for tow and fob batteries •Multiple instances of no rental coverage •GM and dealers often declined documentation or action due to the issue being “intermittent” ⸻ Request: We believe there is a systemic defect in the Suburban’s keyless entry/ignition system (likely receiver or antenna module). We request that NHTSA investigate and that GM be required to issue a recall or permanent repair for affected models. This issue poses a safety concern and has created financial and logistical hardship for our family.

The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost electrical power, failing to display any information on the instrument panel; however, the vehicle still had motive power. The vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who determined that the instrument panel control module needed to be reset. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 2,000.
