- 10/17/2024· SERVICE BRAKES
I received a recall notice in Feb of 2024 for a faulty integrated brake module and issues with the antilock breaking system which may result in seemingly catastrophic issues. There is still no fix for this issue-- 9 months seems like a long time to be driving around a car which may "lose control". I'm not sure if I am safe in my car. I'm not totally sure if this is a reasonable amount of time? But I wanted to report this because it seems worthy of a complaint... Thank you for your time.

I took my X7 to Habberstad BMW to have this brake safety recall done. The dealer said they do not have the parts available and have no ETA. I do not feel safe driving this car with the braking system not working 100% efficiency. I am on month 24 of a 36 month lease with BMW financial and I would like BMW to buy back this car and terminate my lease. This recall has been announced for a few months now and to not have a fix yet for a braking safety issue is unacceptable.

We are the original Owner of a 2023 BMW X7 with 17,500 miles. The past 2+ months the screen/display will go blank for up to 30 seconds while driving the vehicle. Obviously this is a serious safety issue. We took the vehicle for service where it was originally purchased at BMW I will say, this issue is very disappointing, scary, and disturbing. The vehicle was originally brought into service on 7/3 and no resolution for the problem has been presented as of yet. According to the Service Advisor, multiple software updates have been applied and the screen/display has been replaced twice, still no resolution. Brought back into Dealership on 7/23/2025 for the same repeated and dangerous issue Brought back again on 8/3/2025 for the same repeated issue. We were promised it was fixed. Drove the car 4 hours, and once again the screen/display went blank.

On June 29th, 2023 at approximately 8:45 AM we were pulling into a parking space slowly tapping the brakes to slow and stop the vehicle. About 2/3 of the way into the parking stall around 3 or 4 feet from the curb, the vehicle actually accelerated while pressing the brake jumping the curb. We pressed on the brakes again and the car accelerated even faster crossing the sidewalk crashing into a building. We believe the brakes caused the SUA (Sudden Unintended Acceleration) accelerating the vehicle twice and the vehicle failed to apply the brakes. We believe this would've been caused by a computer error on the vehicle. We also believe the vehicle to initiate the two safety systems failed, Crash Imminent Braking & Dynamic Brake Support thus being able to avoid the accident. To the best of our knowledge, no warnings or alerts were displayed on the vehicle before the crash. We had BMW inspect the vehicle and no defective part was found and the black box indicated the vehicle was accelerating a few seconds before the crash. We do not disagree with this and informed BMW that the car was accelerating on it's own.

Our vehicle dies while driving down the highway, twice now in less than 30 days. I drivetrain and low-power warning came on, but the car died and wouldn't start. The obvious risk is that we were driving on the highway and barely avoided being in an accident as I tried to steer us off the road. The second time we were at a park. In both instnances, the temperature was over 100 degrees and my 3 and 5 year old both got sick from overheating. We were stranded in the middle of nowhere. The dealership said "it probably just overheated, we couldn't find anything" but assure us it won't happen again. It did less than 30 days later.

Driving south on I-65 during heavy rainfall with windshield wipers on “auto.” Windshield wipers failed and became stuck in vertical position (picture attached). Immediately could not see the road, and had to navigate in heavy rain from far left lane to emergency lane. Could have caused a major fatality given the lack of visibility with no windshield wipers during heavy rain. Windshield wipers remain stuck, and will not go back to resting horizontal position. Wiper motor will click like it wants to engage, but no result, so does not appear to be relay/fuse issue. No warning lights or any indication of a possible failure. Service apt setup to have issue looked at.

My [XXX] wife and I drove to a cardiac doctors appointment having just had a [XXX]. Upon arriving the passenger side door would not unlock. Tried opening with the interior door handle and it would still not open. Tried exterior door handle and could not open. Contacted BMW emergency they tried to remotely open did not work. Called dealership they said to try double pulling interior handle twice which of course we had already tried still wouldn’t open. MY WIFE WAS TRAPPED WITH NO WAY TO GET OUT decided to try driving to dealership rather than calling fire department. Upon arriving the service provider tried to open but couldn’t do so. All this time my wife is sitting there with no way out other than trying to literally drag her over the center console which would cause her great pain. The service provider asked us to wait until a mechanic got off lunch and hoped that he could help otherwise she said 911 would have to be called. When mechanic arrived he couldn’t open and said that he also couldn’t open door panel because door has to be open to do so. The interior door handle was frozen so he decided to pull with great force and a horrible breaking noise was made and the door finally opened. The estimate to repair was $2320.00. With great effort from my service provider and an assist from the dealership itself BMW agreed to pay most of bill and only charged for parts $94.33 which I paid. I BELIEVE THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY VIOLATION. THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE SHOULD NOT LOCK UP AND BECOME NON OPERATIONAL .HAD THERE BEEN A FIRE OR UNDERWATER THERE WAS NO ESCAPE FOR MY WIFE. This is a 2023 BMW X7 61000 miles no accidents perfect condition INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The vehicle has a glare issue affecting the side mirrors, which impacts visibility while driving. The glare appears to be caused by reflective chrome trim on the dashboard near the air vent, which reflect light into the side mirrors under certain lighting conditions. this creates a safety concern and affects my ability to comfortably and confidently operate the vehicle. the issue has been demonstrated to the dealership on multiple occasions, including prior to June 17th, but does not appear to have been fully documented or resolved. i have also observed similar reflection behavior in other BMW vehicles once pointed out, suggesting this may be related to design or materials rather than an isolated issue. "This occurs intermittently depending on sun angle/lighting conditions",

- 04/05/2023· LANE DEPARTURE
On multiple occasions since purchasing my vehicle in 10/22 the lane departure warning system on my 2023 BMW X7 has detected a lane departure and self corrected the steering wheel causing the vehicle to swerve when the vehicle was safely in the lane. The most recent event being 3/31/23. Sewell BMW in Grapevine Tx has attempted to fix this issue multiple times with no success. As of today, 4/5/23, my vehicle is currently at Sewell BMW attempting to fix this issue. Sewell BMW has been provided with a photo of the error message from my vehicle detecting multiple lane departures and turning off the lane departure system in my vehicle. On 3/31/23 I confirmed with management and service that my vehicle “should not be doing this”. Per Sewell BMW, BMW corporate is now involved with this issue. This is a huge safety concern and has the potential to cause an accident, injury, or death if not corrected properly.

- 03/28/2024· SERVICE BRAKES,BACK OVER PREVENTION,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
While coming to red lights or exiting the freeway I notice the brakes not braking while I press on the pedal. I have to push the pedal with extreme force to get it to stop. I was luckily able to stop it in time. My x7 braking systems reaction timing is not consistent, I feel like I am putting my family at risk if my wife is driving, or if someone else is driving and they cant hit the brakes with the extra force that the car requires sometimes. I have driven many car and have never had a car with inconsistent braking effort needed to stop.
