  Driving home with kids from snowboarding and check engine light comes on. “Power reduced, drive carefully” well I’m in 4 wheel drive the roads aren’t great and I have my kids in the truck. We were safe. Now? I am nearly getting ran off the road there aren’t any exits from the freeway. Kids are terrified. Able to limp home all the while with crying kids. Hook up scanner and it’s p1098. A little research tells me it’s a coolant control valve. Which is known problem from gmc so much so that the company issued an extended warranty to cover. No recall? No just let people experience this event across the country in a truck that is billed as safe and reliable by the company that sells them. This is a complete joke. The part is on national backorder because the problem is so prevalent. So now I have a truck that is inoperable. 52k miles and it’s a 2022. Someone needs to investigate this company as soon as possible.

The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 170.

  Radiator is leaking where plastic meets metal. Leaking coolant at upper corner driver side. This is crazy for a 70k truck. It is a known problem. Dealer refused to submit a claim to GM. I am seeing people get theses replaced. It has been an issue since coolant control Valve was replaced.

  The windshield defroster and heater blower speed reduces and/or shuts off shortly after accelerating to highway range speeds. Blowing snow from Alaska roads will melt and refreeze on the windshield reducing visibility creating a safety hazard. The truck has not been successfully repaired after multiple and lengthy attempts. The heated steering wheel also malfunctions intermittently. The blower motor does seem to come back up to speed when vehicle speed is reduced to city speeds but is intermittent also.

  Driving on the highway, the upper grill molding on the leading edge of the hood broke off and came up and hit the windshield and top of the cab. Upon further research online, this seems to be a pretty common occurrence on sierras with the at4 trim package. I was told by the dealership that extended warranty does not cover this and I would have to order an entire new grille, over $1000

The contact stated that the vehicle almost stalled and then lunged forward. The vehicle was driven back to the residence, and a local dealer was contacted. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was not yet diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V274000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) by the same dealer. The contact stated that the dealer had tested the engine and added thicker viscosity oil. The contact related the failure to the recall work. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 25,000.

  1.)When driving the vehicle it will randomly shutoff while driving with loss of brakes and steering until it will randomly turn back on.The vehicle experiences intermittent electronic and drivability malfunctions. The issue appears to involve one or more vehicle control modules and/or electronic systems. At times, warning lights and system messages appear, and vehicle performance is affected. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. 2.)These failures create a serious safety risk because they occur without warning while driving. The vehicle may lose normal functionality, display multiple warnings, or behave unpredictably. If this occurs in traffic, at speed, or while maneuvering, it could increase the risk of a crash or leave the vehicle stranded in an unsafe location. Furthermore on 3 separate circumstances I came close to crashing the vehicle putting at risk lives in the vehicle and outside. 3.)The problem is intermittent and has been difficult to reproduce on demand. I have taken the truck to the dealership multiple times. The dealership has stated that because the issue is not actively occurring when they have the vehicle, they have been unable to duplicate the concern and have instructed me to continue driving it until the issue happens again. Despite this, the problem continues to return during normal use. 4.)The vehicle has been inspected by the authorized dealership on multiple occasions. To my knowledge, it has not been inspected directly by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives. 5.)Intermittent warning lights and system messages appear, including at times a check engine light and other alerts. These warnings may appear suddenly as the truck shuts off and then disappear after the vehicle is turned off and restarted. Another thing to point out is that the audio and turn signal chime cut off randomly. The issue first began while the vehicle was already in normal use and has continued to reoccur since.

  When the truck reaches approximately 50mph it is unable to shift into the next gears and then it's unable to downshift. The transmission will not go into neutral. The truck must be stopped and turned off, sometimes it will need to be restarted 2x before it's able to shift into first gear. The outdoors temperature was approximately 24F, transmission temp was 178F. The truck locked into 7th gear 6x in a row while the transmission was set to normal driving mode. There were no signs of transmission failure until the vehicle reached approximately 50mph, afterwards the check engine light illuminated, a warning stating "reduced acceleration drive with care" and "service transmission now unable to shift soon". The trucks RPMs were approximately 2500rpm while driving 45mph and would not go down because the transmission would not shift up or down.

  Truck was placed in Park on an inclined road. Exiting truck, truck started to roll backwards. I was struck and right foot was run over by Driver's side front tire and knocked down. I was wearing composite toe shoes which enabled me to get up and run after the truck, trying to stop and control the truck a second time. I was hit again and thrown off the side of the road into a briar patch. Truck continued to roll backwards and off the road into the woods. Upon investigation, two separate County Deputy Sheriffs confirmed that the truck. when it came to rest, confirmed the truck was still in the Park position. Truck had to be towed out of a ditch in the woods. I sustained moderate injuries, but thankfully was not catastrophically disabled. This should be investigated thoroughly, so that no other person(s) is injured or dies as a result of this defect.

  There was engine failure whereby the pushrods were ticking extremely hard. After towing the vehicle to the repair shop, it was determined that a new engine would be needed. The cost for repair was $11,500.00 dollars. The original engine has approximately 75,000 miles.

  Purchased this vehicle used with having 34k miles. Currently has 37k. Powertrain is still under warranty. I will be taking it in to have looked at. The truck has already been in for rear main seal failure and the dealership failed to investigate the transmission issue as far as I know. The issue is with the transmission and shifting, specifically going into second gear. While going into second gear the truck feels like it is in neutral for a couple seconds then ultimately gets its 2nd gear. This appears to only happen after the truck has been sitting off for some time. Between a few hours and overnight. The biggest concern for me was when this happened as I pulled out into the road and was left without propulsion for a brief moment with oncoming traffic. If driving in snow I feel like once the gear grabs, would likely cause a spin-out in front of traffic. This is a serious safety concern. There are no warning lamps or messages on the dash for this issue. This is a 2022 GMC Sierra Limited Elevation crew cab 2.7L V4 with turbo.

  My 2022 GMC Sierra Denali Limited (6.2L L87) had an engine recall performed by an authorized GMC dealer (Paul Masse Buick GMC) in November 2025. Prior to the recall service, the vehicle had no check-engine lights, no drivability issues, and no knock-related symptoms. Immediately after picking up the vehicle from the recall service, the check-engine light illuminated within seconds of leaving the dealership parking lot. I returned the vehicle immediately. The dealer diagnosed a failed knock sensor and replaced it at my expense. There were no prior warning signs or symptoms before the recall visit. General Motors declined responsibility, classifying the issue as an out-of-warranty repair and confirming only that the recall procedure was followed. GM did not evaluate whether dealer handling, component disturbance, or recall-related activity contributed to the immediate failure. I am submitting this complaint because the failure occurred directly after recall service, suggesting a possible recall-adjacent issue or unintended consequence of recall procedures, and because GM declined to investigate causation beyond procedural compliance.

  As I was traveling down the interstate at about 70 mph the front upper grille moulding flew off and almost hit the vehicle behind me. The clips that held this on the vehicle are very weak and this is happening to many of the same vehicles. Had I hit a car behind me there could have been significant damage, and luckily there was not a motorcyclist behind me. I did not hear any rattling or have any damage to the vehicle, this is simply a manufacturer's issue.

  Tailgate unlatched by itself, first time I was connected to a trailer and it damaged the tailgate. Multiple (4+) times afterwards while being parked in garage tailgate opens by itself all during the same day could not get this to stop. Called dealership today for appointment where they could get me in the shop in the middle of the week, but they told me that this issue is known but not covered under my VIN.

  My truck went into "limp" mode and had very little power. It was towed to the dealership where they diagnosed the issue as a bad solenoid causing the engine misfires. The solenoid was replaced, but the issue was not fixed. Now the dealership is stating the engine has bent lifters and the repairs will not be covered under the ongoing massive engine recall. The vehicle had the pico test on 9/17 and it "passed", but less than 3k miles later and the engine failed. This is a clear safety issue and well known by NHTSA and GM. Now I'm negotiating with the dealership to cover repairs and my truck has been gone nearly a month.

  When I started my truck the Service Power Steering and Service ESC notifications came up on my panel. Now my truck has no power steering and it very difficult to steer and navigate. We are in the middle of a winter storm so it is even more of a safety issue in slippery conditions. The ESC system does not engage either and the truck slides when taking corners much more than it used to before the issue.

  While driving approximately 70mph down the freeway the upper grille assembly snapped off and went airborne, it struck the passenger side of my windshield putting 2 large scratches on my windshield. It then hit the roof of the vehicle and continued over my vehicle. Upon inspection the guard is held on by extremely thin clips and all clips sheared in almost identical spots. This creates a huge safety hazard for motorists behind the Vehicle that could be struck by the flying piece.

  While driving down the highway, then without any warning the front upper lip of truck grille flew off randomly. The broken piece shattered windshield and caused damage to body of vehicle. Reported to dealer, but they said I must have hit something to cause the damage. I did not hit anything. I was simply driving down the highway. This was a failure of the truck.

  The contact owns a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle independently accelerated. The contact stated that the failure had occurred while driving approximately 60 MPH with the cruise control engaged and set at manual control and not adaptive cruise control. The contact stated that after manually disengaging the cruise control and depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle failed to respond as intended, and the vehicle unintendedly accelerated. The contact stated that the vehicle nearly crashed into the rear of another vehicle due to the failure. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring intermittently. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, but the vehicle could not be diagnosed because no DTC was retrieved. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure, and the contact filed a complaint. The failure mileage was approximately 33,000.

  I was accelerating from a stop light at green. The RMP's revved up, truck jerked, and it would not shift or accelerate. I was almost rear ended on a busy street. There was not warning light prior. The service light then came on. I pulled over, turned the truck off. I turned it back on and put it in drive. It shifted to 30 mph, jerked, and would not shift. The message on the dash states it is in limited power, in limp mode. The GMC app states there is a Transmission system issue detected. My mechanic stated the control module is bad and needs replaced. I called GMC and they stated it is out of warranty by 4795 miles. Having a vehicle that will not accelerate on a busy street is dangerous. It is a 2022 with low miles. I limped it to my work office 2 miles away and called family to get me. I live 50 miles from work.

  While driving home from work, on the highway. Travelling 68 mph. The upper moulding on the front grille blew off, struck my windshield and landed on the highway behind me. Vehicles behind me had to swerve and slow as a result. I waited for a safe time to pull over and turn around to go back and retrieve the piece. Once retrieved, I could see the plastic clips had broken. Some are still missing. Wry dangerous situation, luckily it was not dark outside, otherwise I imagine other vehicles behind me may not have seen it, could have caused a bad accident.

  Upper trim on front grille fly off while driving. All clips were broken, very thin plastic. This piece of trim nearly hit the vehicle behind me while driving 45-50mph. I've noticed there are many owners experiencing the same issue. The trim piece is separate from the grille but GM will only sell the full grille replacement. The upper piece needs to be redesigned for safety purposes and replaced on all similar models.

  The coolant control valve failed, and there is a recall for a software update for a valve issue in the transmission. The DEF system is flawed with the level being shown by approximate using a computer to calculate versus a level sensor or sending unit. My NOX sensor was replaced and the check engine light came back on for the same reason. It ended up being corrected by filling up the DEF.

  Infotainment system volume shot up full blast on its own with no operator control or influence. The volume of music was so high that it was hard to concentrate on driving while trying to reduce the volume and could not. Had to pull over on the side of the road and shut off vehicle to get the volume to go down. This could be a potential safety risk when driving at higher speeds causing the driver to not concentrate on the road and other surrounding vehicles. I reported issue to dealership and have not had it looked at yet as it has only happened one time. The volume indicator flashed on the screen and showed the volume indicator bar going up to full blast. No other indicators or warning were present at the time.

  The tailgate is randomly opening during driving. I had some equipment fall out on a busy four lane road, I only knew because I had my window down and heard some clanging. I looked out my rear mirror to see tools going all over the road. I had to go back and close a lane with the truck and clean up everything in traffic before a crash was caused. It happened recently again, but luckily, my camper shell kept the gate up this time even though it was unlatched. I thought maybe the key fob, which has a button to open the tailgate, was being pressed. However, I just tested it in the parking lot, and the key fob does not work when moving (as it shouldn’t). No codes are being shown on the dashboard. The tailgate is actuated electronically by the computer, and there is no mechanical link or handle to open it.

  As I was driving down the highway, the top piece of the grill flew off, went airborne, and almost struck the vehicle behind me. When I got home, I looked to see what caused this to happen. The piece was secured by flimsy plastic clips which had broken off. This is a complete manufacturing defect which is on GMC Sierra 1500s years 2022 to present and needs to be recalled. It's happening to a huge number of people based on the reports on Facebook groups.

The contact stated that her son had called while pulled over to inform her that the vehicle was driving rough with the check engine and several other unknown warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the engine had failed and needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the dealer had since closed, and the vehicle was then towed to Marty's GMC (5 Kingston Collection Way, Kingston, MA 02364); who confirmed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not yet been repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and opened a case. The failure mileage was 78,000.

  The contact owns a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the tailgate opened unintendedly. The contact stated that the failure occurred while the vehicle was idling or while parked. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the failure was caused by a corroded wire. The dealer determined that the wire and the tailgate switch needed to be replaced. The dealer confirmed that the vehicle was not included in a recall or covered under warranty. The vehicle was not repaired but was scheduled for repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000. The VIN was not available.

  Purchased vehicle in July 2025. Started having the engine failure issues described in recall "L87 Engine Loss of Propulsion (Related field action: See Special Coverage N252494003)". GM says that the recall work was completed in May of 2025, however, the same exact issue as described in the recall exists. Engine fails during vehicle operation, the vehicle will lose propulsion, increasing the risk of a crash. We believe the recall fix was not performed properly as vehicle has same issue. Dealership has not helped us and GM referred us to you.

  The CAM Sensor Failed and the reluctor ring was chipped. They could not determine without spending hours taking a part the engine if it was a piece of metal from the current recall that chipped off and broke the reluctor ring. No problems until immediate failure and had to had the car towed to the shop to identify issue.

  While driving, on its own, the radio volume surged to 100%. All radio controls were unresponsive, and the volume was maxed-out.. Volume bar on the console display was reading 100%. Was unable to turn the radio down or off. Issue did not resolve until I drove home and turned the vehicle off.

  The trim piece above the grill and below where the hood sits when closed failed/cracked at all attachment points (8 clips and 2 screws). This happened at highway speeds. The trim piece which is approximately 4-5 ft long and 3-4 in wide flew above the hood, struck the windshield and then flew behind the vehicle and may have struck another vehicle or motorcycle rider. This is a dangerous situation that could have injured or killed a motercycle rider if it had struck them. Apparently, based upon postings in forums and speaking with repair shops and the dealership this has happened a lot with this particular piece.

  I bought the truck to pull a trailer and the truck is equipped with a max tow package. When pulling a trailer after a short distance a warning comes on a says the trailer brakes have been disengaged. I have had it to two GMC dealers and they refer me to a GM PIT5948A. C159C document and is says there is no fix. I bought the truck to tow and it is unsafe to do so.

  The contact owns a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while pulling a trailer and driving 45 MPH, another vehicle entered his lane spontaneously, he depressed the brake pedal; however, the vehicle failed to stop. The contact stated that the “trailer brakes disabled/service required” warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to quickly maneuver to the right to prevent an accident and continued depressing the brake pedal forcefully to stop the vehicle. The contact was able to continue driving to his residence. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer but was unable to find a fix for the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that he continued to experience the failure. The contact took the vehicle to a second dealer: Scenic Chevrolet Buick GMC (2300 Rockford St, Mt Airy, NC 27030: (336) 429-5457) however, the mechanic was unable to find a repair for the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that he continued to experience the failure. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 1,200.

  The engine in my vehicle has failed twice while driving at highway speed. Both times, the engine suddenly stalled without warning, causing an immediate loss of propulsion, lighting, and steering assist. Each failure occurred at night, and I had to coast to the shoulder in the dark with limited control while other vehicles traveled at high speed. During the second incident, two children were in the vehicle. Both events created a serious risk of a collision or injury. The failure involves the primary propulsion system. After the first incident, the dealer replaced the engine and performed recall-related updates. Months later, the replacement engine failed in the same way. The dealer inspected the vehicle after each incident, confirmed the failures, and is replacing the engine again. The issue has therefore been reproduced and verified by the service center. There were no warning lights, messages, noises, or drivability symptoms before either failure. The engine stalled suddenly both times. A separate exterior trim piece, previously repaired under a recall, also detached while driving, adding an additional hazard. Both engine failures and the sudden loss of lighting and power created a clear and immediate safety risk to occupants and surrounding traffic. The repeated nature of the defect after a full engine replacement raises concern that the underlying issue has not been resolved.

  While driving the vehicle, the volume on the audio panel shot up to 100%. It caught me off guard and nearly caused me to steer into oncoming traffic. All volume knobs and switches were unresponsive including the power button to the whole unit. I had to pull over and shut off the truck and let it sit for over 10 minutes in order to get it to stop. There are now numerous audio issues, including but not limited to the audio speakers making a crackling noise so bad it renders the use of any audio completely, also periodically the audio loses all volume and will remain completely silent regardless in AM/FM, Satellite Radio, bluetooth or phone call. All these seem to happen anytime the truck gets wet from either car wash or the weather.

The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle suddenly shifted into a higher or a lower gear, the contact stated that when this occurs the vehicle will aggressively jerk into either the higher or lower gear, and the vehicle experiences reduced acceleration to approximately 30 MPH. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed. The contact was informed that there was a leak in a backflow valve that was responsible for the failure experienced. The contact stated that the failure had occurred five times was provided different causes for the failure, even though the contact stated that the failure was the same failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000.

  The volume of my stereo went to 100% max volume, the only way to turn it down was to continue to turn the dial as it continued to go up in volume. Once I was able to get out of traffic and pull over I turned off my vehicle and opened my door to turn it off but when I restarted it happened again. I tried restarting again and waiting longer between and it went back to normal volume control. This has happened twice since, my hands aren’t on any controls when it happens.
