- 12/30/2022· SERVICE BRAKES
Vehicle was in traffic traveling 5-7 mph applied brakes, they failed to engage. Continued to apply more pressure without effect to speed. After three to four seconds of forward momentum and continuing to apply steady pressure to brakes, brakes engaged forcefully causing the wheels to lock up. This was without warning. This has been happening more frequently and with more randomness. Due to the hating motion, this latest event compounded a prior injury in my back and passenger shoulder (from the seat belt locking). Reported problem to dealer, was told this was normal. This has happened many times prior, this is the first time it caused an injury.
- 12/29/2024· ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
The 12-volt accessory battery fails without warning resulting in a no-start situation. The failure to start has left my family stranded in dangerous weather and traffic conditions. The vehicle has been serviced repeatedly by a local Ford dealership who has confirmed that 12-volt battery issues. The 12-volt battery has been replaced twice, but this did not solve the battery drain issue. Warnings for powertrain malfunction and low state of battery charge showed up in the FordPass App starting in October 2023 and have continued for the past year without resolution.
- 12/29/2022· POWER TRAIN,ENGINE
During driving, the truck will shudder during the transition from electric operation to ICE operation. The car hesitates during this problem. I've taken the truck to the dealer but they couldn't verify the problem. This problem has occurred several times over the past year.
- 12/27/2024· ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
The contact owns a 2022 Ford Maverick. The contact stated that while driving on the highway at 40 MPH, when a message displayed on the dashboard that read "warning stop vehicle now" and the vehicle proceeded to come to slow stop. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed, the contact was advised that the wiring harness and fuse box were faulty and would need to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage 39,000.
- 12/26/2024· POWER TRAIN
I was driving on the highway at 55 mph. When I pushed on the gas pedal, no acceleration would occur. There were not any warning lights or indicators for an issue. I had a total loss of power and had to coast to the side of the highway across several lanes to get to safety. The gas pedal would not function until I turned off the truck then turned it back on. The deal was not able to find any root cause for this issue, so I am driving with uncertainty whether it will happen again.
- 12/23/2025· FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
Fuel tank failure at 18,000 miles and less than 3 years of ownership. I noticed that the vehicle had a strong gasoline smell when I was around it. When looking under the truck, I could see that there was a fuel leak coming from the fill pipe inlet into the fuel tank itself. Took the vehicle under warranty to the ford dealer, and was told that the hose clamp was loose connecting the fill pipe into the fuel tank itself. Was sent on my way with the vehicle, and noticed a smell of gasoline and fuel not even two months later. Took it back to the dealer and was told that they were unable to replicate it. Once the weather got cold again, took the vehicle back after noticing a much larger leak and smelling fuel, and am now being told by ford that the fuel tank does in fact need to be replaced as the tank is leaking from the fill pipe inlet. I am no longer under warranty and was quoted $1100 for this repair. Not only do I find this to be a safety concern as leaking gasoline is extremely dangerous and flammable (plus there are vapors in the air in my garage) but felt that my dealership did not do their due diligence to resolve this issue properly, and now I am on the hook for an $1100 repair that should’ve been taken care of when the vehicle was under warranty. No warning lamps were lit alerting me to this problem, I noticed it by smelling gasoline in my garage near the vehicle.
- 12/23/2024· POWER TRAIN
Vehicle shakes violently when accelerating. Believe CV axle to be bad.
- 12/22/2022· SERVICE BRAKES
Breaks not responding or working correctly at low speed... At low speed the break pedal will suddenly become "soft" and vehicle will surge forward until the break pedal is moved a significant distance downward in some cases causing a very abrupt stop from having to slam on the breaks. The other situation during slow speed is that the breaks will suddenly stop short and hard. Then you will need to release the break to move forward causing the above situation to occur where the break pedal becomes soft and takes a lot of downward travel to achieve the same level of breaking. I am an experienced driver of many years and have owned or rented hybrids and EV's and none have had breaks that responded as dangerously as the 2022 Ford Maverick. I have nearly hit two other stationary vehicles in a parking lot and while at a stop light as well as nearly hitting someone that was walking between parking spaces as the this vehicle surged forward from a sudden loss of breaking at low speed. As you can imagine this also causes many looks of concern from observers as your vehicle is surging and stopping abruptly while driving in parking lots or traffic. I purchased this vehicle for my family to use and I don't want them use it due to these safety concerns. The breaks work as expected on highways at higher speeds, only issue is during slow speed breaking. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND NEEDS TO BE FIXED.

My 2022 hybrid Maverick suddenly lost power as I was driving at 45 MPH. There was no warning lights; the entire dashboard went black. I lost all power including lights, speedometer, and power steering. Additionally, and more concerning, I lost all brake functionality so I could not stop the vehicle, even pressing the brake very hard. The parking brake switch also did not work due to the power loss. The brake pedal would not budge until suddenly after the vehicle completely lost all momentum. In the process blew through a stop sign and I could've easily been killed, or worse, killed other people as I had no control of the vehicle as it coasted. Thankfully nobody and nothing else was harmed as I was the only one on the road, it was just traumatic. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and preliminarily inspected. They decided they want to address a technical safety bulletin for a "no start condition", though the conditions did not match this situation exactly. But they also stated the hybrid/powertrain warranties did not apply, so I rejected the repair due to high cost. It is uncertain if the repair they want to do would fix the issue. It is currently available for inspection upon request, though Ford may try to buy it back soon. It has not been inspected by police or insurance. The only light I can think of was a month before I saw a brief "Charging System Service Soon" warning, but it was only on momentarily (did not persist). I am unsure if this is related.

About two weeks after first buying the car I noticed that when breaking the pedal requires inconsistent extra pressure at times to stop the car. Also while breaking and coming to a slow downhill stop the front end makes an odd clunk sound while jerking to a stop. These things only happen very infrequently, so when I took it to the Hansel Ford dealership (in Santa Rosa, Ca.) they could not repeat the sound or breaking effect. The first time I heard the noise I thought I hit something. I feel that the inconsistent breaking could pose a safety issue, making it harder to stop, and potentially causing a collision. I called Ford consumer assistance, they gave me case # [XXX], and asked me to return it to the dealer. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

Just recently I've noticed that when the engine is running and I'm stopped or parked the truck will "lurch". Almost as if I'm trying to hit the gas while parked or holding the brakes. Since this has started, I've also noticed that from 25mph to 60/65mph there is a violent vibration ONLY under acceleration (20-25% on the power meter) while the engine is running. Issue worsens depending on the mode the truck is in (worse under sport, better under ECO/Slippery). Whole truck will shake, body, steering wheel and all. Not sure if these two issues are related? I'm not sure if these are considered to be powertrain or if it's the engine. Not sure if I could have it inspected upon request because I can't pin point any mechanical abnormalities visually. I feel my safety and others may be a concern because the unknown of the issue. I'm not sure if the vehicle is breaking down, will break down, lose power or whatever the case may be. The vehicle has been reported to Ford for these issues with no resolve. No warning lamps or messages. The issue appeared to come out of no where. Wasn't doing it one day, began doing it the next.

The constant velocity axles are shot at 27k miles and the truck is stuck at the dealership for a month now until replacement CV axles become available. The issue started with a small vibration in the pedals while accelerating around 10 to 40 mph. The issue then progressed after about a week or two where everything shakes while accelerating. Especially while veering left. This is a known issue but Ford has not issued a recall. Some people are on their 3rd replacement by 50k miles.

There was no power to continue to pass and I was able to return to an open lane and pull off the road without any further incident. I was lucky that the road was fairly open and there was no oncoming traffic. While driving in traffic on the highway at about 20-30 mph, traffic in my lane slowed further. In response, I applied what should have been an adequate amount of brake pressure to slow down and stop if needed given the following distance I had left. Initially I progressively applying more braking pressure, but after a ~3 seconds of this I slammed the brake down. Instead, the vehicle did not slow as expected in the following ~5 seconds. Despite having slammed on the brake at that point, the vehicle only then showed the emergency braking alert and emergency braked in addition to my foot being fully down on the brake. However, this was too late as my passenger and I rear-ended a Toyota Tacoma. They and myself have filed against my insurance, so there is an accident on my car report that I know has depreciated my new vehicle’s value. Although I do not currently have the Toyota’s estimate, I believe I can ask the owner or my insurance for this. Previously, I had several rear-ending close calls in the car when in traffic and I knew that I often struggled to slow down at stop lights when they first turn yellow. As a result, I’ve often sped up to beat the red since I knew my vehicle struggles to brake in time. My car is currently being repaired by the closest dealership to my SO, but I no longer trust the vehicle. I believe my hybrid maverick does not adequately mechanically brake since it over relies on the weaker regenerative braking. The dealer has attempted to replicate the issue at this point but my vehicle is available for further inspection upon request. I am happy to answer any additional questions.

New incident for me on a recent road trip. I had the check engine light activate once on me back in May when I was on the interstate with cruise set around 75 MPH and I hit the accelerator to go around someone. Just the Yellow/Orange light and it disappeared a day later. On this last trip, same scenario, but the vehicle threw a RED powertrain failure light and went into limp mode. The dash instructed me to pull over when safely possible. Power to accessories(but not HVAC) was on, but drivetrain was not functioning. Luckily, once I got over to the shoulder, I was able to reset the vehicle by doing a complete shutdown of the vehicle. It took a couple of tries, but it came back to life. We were able to continue on with no issues at all other than a Yellow/Orange engine light that disappeared in a couple of hours of continued interstate driving. This has now happened three times total all under the same driving situations.

The last time I vehicle was sitting at the Ford dealership for more than two weeks. I ended up with a low battery warning in their Ford app after taking it back in with less than 36,000 miles they replaced the battery. It has been a year since then and the same issue has happened now that has been at Ford for over three weeks to fix the CV axle. Battery failure can leave. You stranded in remote locations with no way to start your vehicle which should be a safety concern. The other safety concern could be the reason that the electrical drains the battery could cause problems with the high-voltage battery causing fire. While researching the issue, I have discovered that this is a common problem with the 22 through 24 Mavericks and obviously the issue is not the battery the issue is the electrical system draining the battery.

This seems like a severe issue and I’ve heard rumor that they are changing the design of the CV axle to prevent this in the future so I would think there should be a recall to force them to put the new designed CV axles in the 22 and 23 Mavericks to prevent this problem.

After that the truck did not start again no ignition total loss of power. [XXX]: Thank you for clarifying that for me, [XXX]. If you don't mind me asking, did Ford Lincoln Fairfield provide a reason as to why the warranty would not cover your vehicle's current concerns? [XXX]: No any reason it just said that it was out of the warranty that the bumper to bumper is like 36,000 [XXX]: I mean my truck has an airbag recall and won't be fixes until 2023 according to my research [XXX]: So to me this kind of unsafe vehicle should be bigger than a recall INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

Issue Description: The battery has been consistently failing. The battery has been replaced twice in 2024 already. On both occasions after replacing the battery, the new battery was drained and dead again within 48 hours. The battery totally loses power and has to be jumped off nearly daily, sometimes two and three times per day. The battery drains so low that the doors won't unlock with the key fob, no interior lighting or engine power. Safety - Vehicle constantly won't restart in rural locations with no vehicles around to jumpstart the vehicle. The Ford Service Center has inspected the vehicle on several occasions and placed the vehicle on it's diagnostic tool twice this year, but it never reveals anything that is draining the battery. There are no warning signs. These 2022 Ford Maverick Hybrids simply do not start, and FORD has no solution to these daily repetitive battery drains. Any time the engine is turned off, there is a very high probability that the truck will not restart without locating someone to hook up jumper cables and jumpstart the vehicle.
