Car says "service safety restraint system" and airbag light comes on intermittently. Dealer won't cover under safety restraint warranty. They site TSB about a wire that GM made too short but are not sure it will fix it. This car has 42,000. We are worried the safety restraint system won't work and we carry 4 children in our vehicle. This should be covered and a safety recall.

Vehicle became disabled and will not start due to failed fuel pump control module. This could be very dangerous if this would have happened in traffic; or, if vehicle occupants became stranded in an unsafe area. Vehicle must be towed to dealership to affect repair.

I want to complain that my 6.2L V8 engine was “inspected” and they deemed it OK, then proceeded to make a requirement of thicker oil for its life. I was also given a long term warranty on the engine, however it is non-transferable, therefore the re-sale value of the vehicle is damaged beyond normal conditions. The engine is suspect, why else would it need thicker oil? The engine is all over the news with the recall, therefore why would anyone want to purchase my used vehicle based on that press and no further warranty? GM needs to make this right! That 10-year or 150,000 miles means nothing to re-sale value if is not transferable.

Onstar, my vehicle's core safety communication system, stopped working without notice, without an alert on the dash. Nothing. I press the onstar button and nothing happens. What if I was in trouble? Didn't have my phone? The issue was not communicated to me through the infotainment system. This seems like a serious issue.

Car initially started stuttering on the high, check engine and traction control lights came on. I immediately went to the nearest Chevy dealership a mile away. Initially I had 20 error codes. The problem was the Left side lifters 4 of 8 stop working. Dealership recommended Replace Left lifters, 2 push rods, valve cove, head gasket. $5000. After starting the work. The technician could not repair the lifters because my camshaft is pitted and the RODS were rotating. Their recommendation is to replaced the whole engine to fully fix the problem. $12000 with 3 yr warranty. My SUV just 100kmiles.

Hi my 2022 chevroley suburban has been sidelined for more than two months with a problem that involves my cylinder number 5 ( lifter and camshaft or crankshaft ) i believe. a well known issue with these cars. i happened just a few miles out of my warranty. when i went to chevrolet to explain to them. they didn't want to fix it. i have two young children that i take to school with this vehicle and they won't help me. this is a known issue with this model and it has been recalled many times. i'm stranded because of this car being out of an engine ... mind you the problem started well before my warranty and i was thinking that i needed some spark plugs ... by the time i realized it ... it went right over my warranty.

I own a 2022 Chevrolet suburban and bought the 72k mile extended warranty. Recently my telematics module went bad which is covered by the GMPP. I lost wifi, my clock is wrong everytime etc. However General Motors no longer makes this part anymore. Parts department utilizes a third party company called specmo for a refurbished authorized unit. However, GMPP will only cover the original msrp not the inflated price from the company specmo that GM uses for these parts. This part is 100% covered based on an msrp for a part that they no longer use and states that policy does not allow them to cover the full cost over the original msrp of the part. This is an issue that is all over the forums and internet and is ridiculous that GMPP is an extension/better than manufactures warranty yet they will not fully cover the full cost of the part that is covered. A few days later I was driving and my abs, traction control, steering, brakes, everything was flashing and not responsive or dramatically reduced like my brakes where I could not stop immediately with me and my 5 kids in the car.

When I started up the vehicle with the key fab button I noticed the cabin air blower came on as normal however when we went to the cockpit we noticed the engine was not running. When we went to start the vehicle (holding break and pressing start button) the dashboard started the Z71 launch sequence and then went to a dashboard as if I was in the normal drive mode however the dashboard was extremely dimly lit as if the backlight was not on and the engine still was not running. After several attempts to start using the brake+start button method we noticed a clicking sound that seemed to be coming from the engine cabin just in front of the passenger cabin however it would never ignite/start the engine. After several attempts to start the engine through the brake+button, we tried to just press the start button, which would sometimes be prompted on the dashboard, and get some feedback from the dashboard through better backlighting and messages I now cannot recall but never ignited the engine. When we tried again with the key fab x2 button (hoping it would either start or "cancel" the current vehicle state), we received no response from the vehicle. When we attempted to shift, it stated the "conditions were not met", which I perceived as the correct response. The vehicle was stuck in this "mode" with the air blower still running and exterior lights still on and it was only a matter of time until the battery ran out. When it ran out later that day (though not completely ded) in rebooted in the same tweener mode. However, when we came the next day with a tow truck and a fully dead battery in the Suburban, the vehicle booted right up as normal. The tow truck driver indicated several new Tahoe drivers experiencing the same issue. To me, this is a software launch issue. While the vehicle was not perceived to be in danger, it left us stranded in what could be a dangerous location. Several episodes as reported by tow truck. Unsure if inspected. No symptoms before problem.

Summary: Sudden loss of engine power while driving due to lifter failure. Details: While driving my 2022 Chevrolet Suburban equipped with the 5.3L V8 (RPO L84), the engine suddenly lost power without warning. The vehicle began misfiring and lost propulsion in traffic, creating a hazardous situation. I was unable to maintain normal speed and had to maneuver to safety while the truck rapidly lost power. The dealer later diagnosed the problem as a collapsed lifter/valvetrain failure — an issue that GM has already documented in service bulletins (PIP5776G, 23-NA-043) and a service update (N212353840). These bulletins show GM has long been aware of defective lifters in 5.3L engines. This is not just a drivability concern. A sudden engine failure and loss of propulsion while driving poses a clear safety risk, especially when merging, crossing intersections, or towing. I maintained the vehicle properly and have all service records. I request NHTSA investigate these widespread lifter failures in GM’s 5.3L V8 engines as a safety defect, since they can and do cause sudden loss of power in motion.

I own a 2022 Chevrolet Suburban (VIN: [XXX] ) that is included in NHTSA Recall No. 25V274 / GM Recall No. N252494000 for engine defects in the 6.2L L87 V8 engine. My vehicle was inspected at an authorized GM dealer today, on 9/23/2025 (Don K in Whitefish Montana). Instead of replacing the engine, the dealer performed the recall “remedy” of switching to higher-viscosity oil, changing the oil cap and filter, and providing an owner’s manual insert. However, the dealer service manager specifically told me that my engine will eventually fail due to the known defect and advised me not to drive the vehicle on long trips. He also told me to be careful driving if I have children, and it is only a matter of time before the engine fails, which will look like sudden shuttering, loss of acceleration and it will no longer run. He told me wait time to get a new engine after it fails is currently 8 months. This is alarming because the recall notice states that engine failure can cause sudden loss of propulsion without warning, which could be catastrophic going across multiple lanes of highway (from my home street), and entering and exiting my street via the 4 lane highway "suicide lane". I am very worried about this in the coming winter season with snow and ice. The current “oil upgrade” remedy does not resolve the underlying manufacturing defect in the connecting rod and/or crankshaft. Even after the recall service, my vehicle remains unsafe to operate, and the dealer’s own warning confirms this. I request that NHTSA review GM’s recall remedy to ensure that it adequately addresses the safety defect. A true remedy should involve replacement of the defective engine components, not just an oil change, or an immediate buy back of my automobile by the company so I can purchase another safer vehicle. My family and I do not feel safe driving this vehicle, and the manufacturer’s current approach does not eliminate the risk of catastrophic engine failure. While traveling back from Labor Day Weekend on [XXX], I was driving in the Dallas Fort Worth area when I experienced loss of power to our vehicle on a major highway [XXX] and [XXX] ) and directly on a bridge with my entire family in the vehicle (4 kids and all of our luggage). It was a very dangerous and scary situation. We had to wait one hour for a tow truck to come and take my vehicle to the closest GM dealership. I was left stranded, 3 hours from my home with my four children and luggage. The Chevrolet dealership contacted me 9 days later and informed me the technician looked at the vehicle and determined the engine was locked up/seized. It would take 9 months to get the vehicle back into the shop to determine what caused the issue and then take 6-12 months for a new engine. I have a family of 6 and I'm left car-less for two years. Yet I still have to make the monthly payment on a vehicle that I won't be driving or be in possession of. MY BIGGEST ISSUE: GM has known that they have had engine issues for many years. Particularly, with Dynamic Fuel Management causing lifter issues which leads to engine failure, yet never disclosed this to me when I purchased the vehicle. Furthermore, they never disclosed that the issue was so prevalent that motors were back ordered for over a year. Consumers are being misled into spending their hard earned money on vehicles that have major mechanical design flaws known to the manufacturer. Once the mechanical flaw is realized, the vehicle can't be repaired for up to two years. Hiding this data from consumers should be criminal. Furthermore, General Motors to this point has been no help, with the GM customer satisfaction team telling us they can't do anything until a dealer diagnosis the issue, and the dealer stating they can't diagnose the issue until May of next year, at which time they would then look to order the motor which will take 9-12 months to deliver and install. This problem isn’t just the 6.2L engine. My 22 Suburban has the 5.3L and had engine failure on the freeway going 70 mph in April 2026. Loud noises and loss of power. Towed to dealership and was confirmed that it was the same issues as the 6.2L. The dealership only replaced certain components (gears, rods, camshaft etc.) Parts replaced and vehicle returned a month later but still loss of power and bad idle. New dealership in May 2026, replaced same parts, said faulty parts were used at previous dealership. Vehicle repaired and returned in June2026, a day later new code for service transmission now code thrown and parking break not working. Returned to dealership and said it was a fuel pump module? failed. No vehicle for 3 months and lots of headaches. This recall needs to be extended to the 5.3L engine as well. Needs full replacement, not just repaired. My vehicle still doesn’t run great but Chevy will not honor anymore repairs.

The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated that while driving at highway speeds, the vehicle shut off while displaying "Service Transmission Now Unable to Shift Soon" and "Engine Power is Reduced" warning messages. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was previously inspected under NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V274000 (Engine and Engine Cooling); however, no repairs were performed. After remaining at the dealer for nearly eight weeks, the engine was replaced under warranty. A few weeks after the replacement, the same warning messages were displayed on the instrument panel upon startup. The contact attempted to drive the vehicle; however, the vehicle failed to exceed 20 MPH and was towed back to the dealer. While attempting to drive the vehicle into the service bay, the technician experienced severe hesitation and engine stalling. During diagnostic testing, a large amount of metal shavings was discovered in the oil filter, and the vehicle was diagnosed with the same engine failure as before. The vehicle was repaired; however, the contact refused to take possession of the vehicle due to safety concerns. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was 61,000.

Just for information purposes, I have been an ASE certified Master automotive technician for 30 years. As I was accelerating onto the highway, my transmission downshifted hard, throwing everything forward. It then went into limp mode with “ses” light on. I was able to drive it home stuck in one gear. The next morning I tried to drive the truck. It had reverse but when trying to go forward, the transmission was stuck in between gears and fighting itself. I manually shifted into low gear and it seemed to clear up the binding. I drove the truck up and down my driveway which is about a half mile long. No more “ses” light but when I went to park it, there was no movement in reverse. As I researched the problem I found the recall information on the valve body. I called several dealerships to find a service writer that had experience with these transmission issues. The truck was towed to a dealership that knew about this recall. Their technician checked for codes but there were none. It seems these trucks reset or “lose” codes when the ignition is turned off. He checked the fluid and decided that the reverse clutch must be burned up. They quoted a transmission replacement at $6500. I asked if they had driven the truck forward at all to reset any trouble codes. The truck was “unsafe” to drive due to the random harsh downshift and erratic behavior. I went there(putting myself in danger) to drive the truck to reset any trouble codes. Within a mile the truck did the same thing. It stored a code P2732. I was informed that GM would not do anything for me unless there was a P747. After reasoning with the service manager and also GM, it was obvious I was out of luck. I had the truck towed home and removed the transmission pan. The fluid was clean and there was no debris. The problem is in the defective valve body from GM but since it didn’t have the code P0747 I’m stuck having to repair it myself. The truck has 126k miles still well within the extended service range.

I am submitting a safety complaint regarding our 2022 Chevrolet Suburban equipped with the 6.2L L87 engine. The vehicle is subject to GM Product Safety Recall N252494000 / NHTSA Recall 25V-274. Our Suburban underwent GM's required recall inspection, including the Picoscope inspection. The engine passed the inspection and the engine oil type was changed in accordance with GM's recall procedure. Since passing that recall inspection, we have experienced the following issues: On XXX, at approximately 40,527 miles, while we were in [XXX], the vehicle displayed a reduced-acceleration warning and check-engine light and experienced significant acceleration problems and loss of reverse. We took the vehicle to Essenlohr Motors, a Chevrolet dealer in [XXX]. The dealer diagnosed a P0700 condition/control solenoid stuck off and repaired the transmission valve body under GM warranty. I understand this incident was diagnosed as a transmission issue, and I am including it as part of the vehicle's recent history rather than asserting that it was caused by the L87 engine defect. The dealer's repair order documents both the check-engine condition and our report of the reduced-acceleration warning. On XXX, after we had returned home to [XXX] from our trip to [XXX], the Suburban had 41,798 miles on it. We drove approximately 2 miles from home when a “Low Engine Oil–Add Oil” warning appeared. We immediately returned home and parked the vehicle. After allowing it to sit for approximately 15 minutes, we checked the engine oil and there was no oil registering on the dipstick. We saw no evidence of an external oil leak on the garage floor or underneath the vehicle. Rather than continuing to drive it, we had the Suburban towed to Wiers Chevrolet in [XXX]. The dealer confirmed that the engine was approx. two quarts low on oil and indicated that there was no apparent leaks. They performed an oil change and started a 6,000 mile oil consumption test. Operating vehicle normally until one day I heard a rattling noise from the engine compartment. Car had limited speed and i had to pull over to check what the issue was and the car wont start. No check engine lights, no warning. Tried turning car on but only the car starter keeps rolling. Tried jumping and it doesnt start and had to have it towed to the dealership. Car is under 55,000miles and dealer diagnosis indicates there are metal particles in the new oil after replacing oil and a loose bearing. States i will need a new engine, which is on back order and GM will only cover $44/day until repair is complete. All maintenance and oil change invervals were kept up to date. Other days when I start the car, the main HUD with the speedometer does not turn on. Pitch black... I can drive but not know what my speed is. I had to disconnect battery and reconnect to clear the issue. It has happened several times.

Had the recall service done , where they change the oil weight, to the 6.2 L engine and just a few months later the engine died while driving on the highway . It just stopped running. The car is only 3.5 years old and the engine died. They took it apart and said it was a non effected part that failed but i find that crazy. No warning just complete shut down. I was luck and only going about 30 MPH on the highway due to heavy traffic. But then needed to sit on the highway for hours weighting for a tow. The kicker is the car would not go into neutral and made everything so much harder.

The motor on this vehicle has been on recall since April of 2025. The coolant control valve malfunctioned on this vehichle several times during the course of ownership. It causes the vehichle to run in limp mode. This part was replaced in July 2023 at ~40,000 miles as a result. The part again began to fail in june/july 2025 with a dealer visit and diagnostic in July. This causes a check engine light, reduced milage, reduced acceleration, constant fan running and fails state inspection Google searches indicate this is a very common problem, yet no recall has occured to date. The first repair was in warrantee and now the vehicle is out of warantee. If the part was not covered under the vehicle warrantee, the part and repair would have been covered by the part warantee. Becsuse of the initial powertrain warrantee repair, the part warrantee does not apply. This is clearly a defective design and part that requires recall and replacement at GM cost

Driving down to Florida, No warning, no lights, never any issues except a belt replacement. I get oil changes, tire rotation every 3500 miles. Almost got killed doing 75 miles per hour, engine sputtered, totally shut down. Coasted onto an exit ramp thank God it was right there or we could of been killed. Tow truck towed to Davis Chevy Gainsville, they called me on Monday said good news I have a warranty bad news Total Engine Failure, will take 3-4 weeks to replace. Now I am trying to find a GM rental large enough to get me and my family back to TN since GM said they will only pay for a GM rental car. Scary, could of gotten killed. NO NOTICE FROM GM ABOUT ANY POSSIBE PROBLEMS....WE ALMOST GOT KILLED AND CRASHED along with the other drivers on the road. Thank God it was a Sunday and 6 am so not much traffic or it would of been worst.

Our 2022 suburban with the diesel motor has had 3 separate incidents where by all accounts the wheels have locked up while driving. The incidents mirror what has been described in the recall N242454440. The first time the incident occurred, we were driving while towing a light load (boat ~2500 lbs) at a steady speed of 60 mph. While driving the vehicle shook violently once, and then again about 2-3 seconds later. I immediately pulled over suspecting that maybe there was an issue with our trailer. After finding nothing we drove home without incident. Shortly after this incident we had the transmission flushed for regular maintenance at about 50,000 miles. Approximately 5-6 months later the second incident occurred. While driving with no trailer, up a mountain in NC at a steady speed of 35 mph, the vehicle shook violently and then again approximately 2-3s later. Each time the vehicle shook a loud "BUMP" noise would be heard. The road was smooth and was later driven on without issue so it was not the terrain. I once again got out and inspected the vehicle and was unable to find an issue. We drove to where we were staying and immediately took the vehicle to a dealer the following day to be inspected. The dealer found no issues and we did not report any similar problems. The last incident occurred after another 8 months while towing a light utility trailer at a steady speed of 60mph. Same thing happened with a shake and loud BUMP. However this time it was not followed immediately by an other instance. Those came approximately a minute later and then again after about 10 more minutes. I cannot recreate the issue and it seems to be at complete random and is happening while driving steady rates of speed where the transmission shouldn't be trying to shift. It seems like a safety hazard that could cause an accident.

- Truck makes a sizzling sound when parked - Car wouldnt start and needed battery jump, unknown source draining the battery - Truck has engine issues , started shaking and died in the middle of the highway, GM replaced engine - Engine replaced after less than a week, truck would not start, Gm replaced starter - After 2 days and using the vehicle once, truck would not start again. GM is trying to root cause issue but cant find a resolution Since the car stopped when we were on the highway and none of the fixes seem to be working I am worried that the car will abruptly stop again and put my life and others at risk

When attempting to drive from a stop light or stop sign, after taking your foot of the brake, the vehicle intermittently completely turns off. It will not immediately restart and you find yourself stuck in the middle of an intersection creating a safety issue. The vehicle has been in to Chevrolet to have this issue fixed once already and it continues to repeat. I doubt the dealer has been able to replicate the issue as they haven't gotten the vehicle back into the shop after it's been sitting there for a week. There were no warning lights, messages, or other symptoms. It has happened to both myself and my wife, most recently on or about 7/1/25 where it happened to my wife multiple times causing us to leave the vehicle at the dealership for service. Just to be clear, the issue with the vehicle turning off is different from the standard auto stop/start feature.

The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V274000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The contact stated that on several occasions while checking the oil level, there was no oil on the "dip stick". The contact stated that the engine consumed 2-3 quarts of oil approximately 4,000 miles. Additionally, the contact stated that while driving on several occasions at various speeds, the low oil warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the piston and piston ring were damaged due to excessive wear and sticking. The vehicle was repaired but the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to the same dealer where it diagnosed that the cylinder head had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the same dealer where the failure was not replicated. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 3,000.

I own a 2022 Chevrolet Suburban with approximately 115,000 miles. While driving, the check engine light illuminated and the vehicle suddenly entered limp mode. The transmission lost normal operation, including reverse gear, significantly limiting the vehicle’s ability to operate. The failure occurred without warning and created a potential safety concern because the vehicle could no longer respond normally to driving conditions. The vehicle was inspected by a Chevrolet dealership, where technicians diagnosed a failed transmission control valve body and confirmed the valve body required replacement. I paid to have the repair completed. After the repair, I learned that GM issued Special Coverage N242454441 for certain 2021-2022 Chevrolet Suburban vehicles equipped with the same transmission. The bulletin describes premature transmission control valve wear that can cause a service engine light, reduced engine performance, harsh shifting, and requires replacement of the transmission control valve body. My vehicle experienced the same failure and required the same repair, but my VIN was not included in the covered population. I contacted GM before authorizing the repair and requested assistance, but my request was denied because my VIN was not included in the special coverage. I am submitting this complaint because my vehicle experienced the same transmission valve body failure identified by GM despite not being included. I request that NHTSA document this failure and determine whether additional vehicles equipped with the same transmission should be included in any current or future safety investigation.

My vehicle was sold as EQUIPPED W/ FRONT/REAR PARK ASSIST; INCLUDES LATER RETROFIT printed on the window sticker . I took delivery nearly 2 years ago and this safety retrofit has still not been completed . I have reached out to GM customer service who provides vague excuses and no further information for repair. I see new GM vehicles just like mine on the lot with these systems installed and working . Isn’t this a serious concern that 2 years later these vehicles have still not been retrofitted ? Are there other concerned customers ? Is there an investigation underway looking for explanations from GM . What more can I do as a consumer to make sure no children are ran over by cars missing these sensors ?
