Transmission valvebody failure, causing rapid, repeated rear wheel lock ups. Videos can be provided. These happen almost daily at highway speeds. This will cause a very bad accident

  • 12/21/2024· POWER TRAIN,SERVICE BRAKES,ENGINE

I received a notice of a recall for a known problem with GMC transmissions. it is very well known that these transmissions lock up and cause problems with braking and can cause the vehicle to slide off the road when the tires lock up. it also causes hard shifting, which I have experienced. GMC said they will not fix the transmission, they instead will add a device to monitor the transmission, so when the transmission locks up and causes an accident, it will let me know that it was the transmissions fault!!! How is this legal? they will let me know that their transmission caused the accident after the fact? why not fix it? typical of government to do nothing about safety... and instead make laws that allow big corporations and government to make money off of peoples deaths!

  • 12/20/2024· POWER TRAIN

The contact owns a 2021 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving at various speeds and downshifting, the rear wheels locked up with the parking brake warning light flashed on the instrument panel. The vehicle would resume normal operation soon after the failure. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the contact was informed that there was a pending NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V797000 (Power Train) on the vehicle for the failure. The contact was informed that there was a temporary fix on the vehicle to repair the defect. After the temporary fix was performed, the contact experienced the failure twice within a week. The contact received a call that the permanent fix was available; however, soon after the repair was performed, the failure immediately occurred upon leaving the dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and the contact was informed that he would receive a callback. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.

The coolant control valve has failed on two occasions—once during the warranty period and again approximately 18 months later, outside of warranty. Each failure resulted in continuous fan operation and fluctuating engine temperatures. Failed on around June 2024 and again December 17, 2025

  • 12/19/2025· STEERING

The power steering on the truck would quit working at times. I made an appointment with a local dealership to have it checked out. I was told the steering rack was binding and would need to be replaced. I was also told there was a two to four week backorder on the parts. As I am trying to back out of my garage to take it to the dealer the steering totally locked up. I called a wrecker to take the truck to the dealer the next day. When the wrecker operator started to load the truck, at first the steering wheel wouldn't turn . Then it broke lose and worked fine. Imagine if I were driving when this on again off again power steering would quit working!! I should also say this truck only has fifty-seven thousand miles on it. Since there is a backorder on these parts it tells me that I'm not the only one that is having this problem. In my opinion this is a very dangerous safety problem and should be a national recall. Thank you

The contact owns a 2021 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V060000 (LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and opened a case and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was 41,000.

  • 12/16/2025· ENGINE

mechanical and electrical issues with my GMC Sierra Elevation Duramax Diesel, purchased in 2021. Despite multiple dealership visits, diagnostic evaluations, repairs, and software updates, these issues persist and have significantly impacted the reliability and safety of the vehicle. In December 2025, my vehicle was taken to the dealership for diagnostics and a third software update intended to resolve recurring engine-related faults. Throughout 2025, the check engine light illuminated on approximately 30 occasions, confirmed by at-home diagnostic scans. The same diagnostic code related to the 1) SCR NOx Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold Bank 1 Catalyst 2 P2C7A - Engine I 2) Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Cooler Efficiency Below Threshold P14D9 - Engine has appeared repeatedly since the vehicle was first purchased in 2021. Additionally, on approximately 15 occasions in 2025, the vehicle failed to start. When pressing the ignition button, the engine screeched while attempting to turn over for 20 to 45 seconds, after which the vehicle powered off entirely. After waiting approximately 10 minutes, the vehicle would then start normally. Notably, during these no-start events, no check engine light or diagnostic code appeared, and the engine light and starting failure have never occurred simultaneously. hese same concerns were explicitly explained to service technicians during the most recent recall repair in 2025. I was informed that a software update would resolve the issue. However, the problems have continued. A similar frequency of failures occurred throughout 2024. At that time, GMC advised that the issue was likely the vehicle’s battery. Acting on this recommendation, I had the battery replaced at my expense in October 2024 by the dealership. This repair did not resolve the issue. From the time of purchase in 2021 through January 2024, these same symptoms occurred approximately 10 times, demonstrating a long-standing and unresolved defect.

The local dealer was contacted, and it was confirmed that the part was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that the transmission was shifting hard while driving. The local dealer was notified of the failure. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 120,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

I have a 2021 GC Sierra 1500, The guidance lines in the display when in reverse go from non-existent to barely visible and are not usable especially in sunlight. The service man at Miller Chevrolet in Marianna Fla says GMC is aware of the problem, that it was caused by the last update download and will be fixed by another download to correct the problem. He also says the same issue is nationwide and all trucks have the issue which I find hard to believe. 1.If that were true it would be a simple matter of a few lines of code to correct the problem. 2. I have been chasing this problem since October and have now made four trips to the dealership. 3. I cannot believe all trucks have this issue and also I suspect the same backup system is in all GMC vehicles regardless of type. 4. I cannot believe GMC would allow such a problem to exist since the last update download which was months ago. 5. I contacted GMC Customer Care in October after the dealership told me they had no idea what was causing the issue. I have had a case number [XXX] since that time. I was told on the first call that if necessary a Tech would be sent to fix the problem. Today I called asking for a tech to be sent only to be told I had to take it to another dealership and try them before a Tech could be sent! I have two questions, can you help with this and does this qualify as a "lemon law" case? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. • 12/15/2020· ENGINE

THE VEHICLE WAS BOUGHT BRAND NEW AND WAS ONLY DRIVEN FOR A WEEK. IT WAS IN MOTION ON THE FREEWAY WHEN THE ENGINE STARTED TO SOUND NOISIER THAN USUAL, LIKE THAT OF AN OLDER TRUCK. IT WAS HARD TO NOTICE ON HIGHER SPEEDS ON THE FREEWAY, BUT UPON SLOWING DOWN ON CURVES, IT GOT MORE OBVIOUS THAT SOMETHING WAS REALLY WRONG BECAUSE THE NOISE SOUNDED LIKE SOMETHING WAS LOOSE INSIDE THE ENGINE. THERE WAS NO 'CHECK ENGINE' LIGHT OR ANY OTHER WARNING LIGHTS. UPON EXITING THE FREEWAY, THE ENGINE SHUT OFF COMPLETELY WHILE IN MOTION. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO PULL IN A PARKING LOT AND PARK IT SAFELY. THE ENGINE WOULD NOT START SAFELY AFTER THAT, AND 'CHECK ENGINE' ACTIVATED. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY BEING DIAGNOSED AT A DEALERSHIP. LAST UPDATE WAS THAT THE ENGINE WAS BEING TAKEN APART COMPLETELY BECAUSE THEY SAID IT'S DEFINITELY INSIDE IT.

  • 12/13/2022· SERVICE BRAKES

All 4 brake rotors are warped according to my local GMC dealership. They also told me all of the inside brake pads are worn twice as much as the outer pads, which in my opinion indicates a manufacturing and/or computer controller issue. Safety is an issue when the inside brake pad wears down to metal while the outers are still over 75% of new thickness. GMC dealer told me they're seeing this on countless Sierra trucks made in the past few years but there is no recall and GMC will not cover it under warranty. First symptom was slight pulsing while braking downhill. 2-3 weeks later my brake pad wear indicator read 82% front, 88% rear. The following day it gave me an error message saying "service brake monitor" so I took it to my GMC dealer which is when they told me my brake pads and rotors all need to be replaced but the truck only had 22800 miles on it at that time. They said it could still be driven and pass inspection. Since then I have contacted GMC about them covering it and I have not made any progress. GMC has had numerous brake issues resulting in recalls in the past 3-6 years but unfortunately this particular issue has not yet reached recall status. I hope this gets resolved before I am forced to pay for brake replacements out of pocket, which nobody should have to do on a vehicle with so little miles on it. The work order invoice I uploaded indicates ""pads at wear limit, both front and rear" but it does not specify what the technician and service advisor told me regarding only the inside pads are worn. However I do have a recording of the service advisor telling me that if needed. You'll also notice that I uploaded a copy of the state inspection done by them that same day which indicates my brake system passed the requirements. Please help.

The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact referenced an unknown engine recall; however, the VIN was not under recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The contact was advised to report the failure to the NHTSA Hotline. In addition, the contact was informed that the VIN for the vehicle was a Canadian VIN, and the mileage was displayed in kilometers. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

  • 12/08/2025· LANE DEPARTURE

Vehicle experiences a failure to the Lane Departure Warning and Intellibeam headlamps functions, primarily at night. Trouble first began on 3/12/2023 and has been to two GM dealerships for 11 repairs and the problem is still unresolved. GM Executive Escalations have been opened and the problem is still unresolved. Their response is that 18 vehicles experienced this problem and the resolution was to clean the front windshield and update the camera software. This truck has had the camera replaced and software updated three times by two different dealerships. GM is now stating they are unwilling to resolve the problem any further and they would no longer send any Field Engineers to investigate the problem. I have numerous photos, videos and repair logs from with the problem and resolutions performed. Nature of problem: At night, the indicator button for selecting the Lane Departure Warning will go out. If the button is depressed, a message in the DIC indicates Lane Departure Warning Unavailable and there is no way to activate the LDW. It also causes the Intellibeam headlamps to not work. Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated.

  • 12/08/2025· ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING

The contact owns a 2021 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact had received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V274000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The vehicle was taken to the dealer where an inspection was performed on the engine. The contact was informed that the vehicle had passed the inspection, and the mechanic added a higher viscosity oil, installed an oil fill cap, replaced the oil filter, and updated the Owner's Manual. The contact stated that the remedy failed to address or repair the possible defect with the engine. The contact stated that the remedy resulted in a higher cost for oil changes, and fuel economy had decreased from 21 miles per gallon to 18 miles per gallon. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and the contact was provided a case number. The contact stated that the vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.

On 11/19/2021. While on the express way our truck started sounding really bad. We drove it slower to a gm dealer in Highland MI. They said we had a misfire. And there was nothing they could do at this time. We drove a little further and it got worse. We had to stop at a rest area. After dark and in the freezing weather. We had it towed to a dealer in Frankenmuth MI. Our truck has 11,800 miles . It has a diagnostics report of Valve lifter defects left bank. Starter had to be replaced. And now gm wants to only fix to affected bank . But on the unsold trucks they will repair both banks as stated in service bulletin N212353840 . If we have one bad lifter they should all be replaced as for this not to happen again. As of 12/08 2021 it is still in the shop [XXX] Thank you INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

2021 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 6.2L engine, Little over 15000 miles, Purchesed May 2021. Drivining down the interstate with out warning, engine starting making back fire sounding noise, with a noticeable loss of power, I requested On Star to do a vehicle diagnostics, no faults was reported, No check engine light, temp was normal, oil pressure normal. The noise was off and on at first and then remained constant. Fortunataly I was able to make it safely back to my residents. I parked the vehicle and did a scan code and it did not have any codes, I did a pending code scan and it had a P0300 code. I started the engine and the noise was louder at first and then got quiter after about 15 seconds of running the check enging light came on I shut the engine down and did another scan it gave me a P0302 code. I feel that the vehicle is unsafe to drive and could cause a accident if it locks up on the highway. I contacted GM and reported the issue, they said take it to a near by GM dealer, I told them that I felt the vehicle was unsafe to drive and they tried to contact me with road side assistance but I was unable to get anyone on the phone. I feel that GM is ingnoring a known issue and that this will result in accidents and possible loss of life.

experience a automatic OTA update to the info system on my 2021 GMC Sierra(I did not iniciate) which burnt out the radio module which controls the info system. I am being charged $1,300+ for repair due to vehicle being out of warranty(52,000 miles) and no recall on this vehicle model for this issue. GMC does have a recall for this exact issue on the 2021 GMC Tahoe models, but not the GMC Sierra. If the GMC utilizes the same componets for both models of vehicle how doe the recall#N202319250 not cover the exact same issue on both models?

The engine blew up at 67,000 mile while driving down the road. Not sure what happened but there was no warning signs at all. The dealership said they couldn’t know for sure what happened but most likely the oil pump went bad. I have spoken with a few people that have had this same problem with the 6.2 liter engine. It needs to be looked into because this could have caused a major accident on the highway.

I was informed by the dealer that the vehicle would need a new engine.

My 2021 GMC 1/2 Serria SLT 4x4 Crew Cab short bed, V-8 Gas engine with Automatic Transmission. I bought this pickup used with apprx. 41k miles on it. I had it about 2 months when I went out to start it and the battery was completely discharged, it would not even click or any lights come on. I hooked it up to a battery charger and got it started, took it to a shop and had the battery and alternator check which both were ok. Drove back home and went out the next morning and the battery was completely drained again, got it started and went an put in a new battery. 16 days later it did the same thing this time it smelled like wires burning when I opened the hood. Called the dealer I bought it from and they put it on a diagnostic machine for over 3 hours could not find anything. Then next morning the battery was again completely drained. Got it started and took it to another shop to get it checked out and after almost 3 hours there they found nothing. Came back home an it sat for just over 40 hours and again the battery was completely drained. I could smell what I think is plastic or rubber when I opened the hood again. My main concern is that this may be a fire hazard and could not only burn up my pick up but my house as well. The check engine light has came on but goes off so I am at a complete loss on this and seems as if GM is not concerned either. I have tried contacting GM but so far nothing other than a note from GM Canada that I need to contact the GM USA, and again that is the only thing I have gotten from anyone. Perhaps this is just a odd thing, I don't know but I do know it is not a safe thing.

Also the lights would not shut off when I turn the vehicle off so I’ll have a dead battery in the morning.

5 days after purchasing and While driving down the interstate at 80 mph, there was a loud clunk at the same time the back wheels locked up for a split second, long enough to burn the tires and throw everyone in the vehicle forward then the vehicle continued on. It happened three more times, we trailered it and brought it to the dealer. They said nothing is wrong with it. However, I was able to locate the previous owners who stated they'd been bringing it to several dealerships to have it taken care of for the past six months and every dealer said that nothing is wrong with it. But the same thing happened to them for six months. One mechanic in Idaho even replaced the motor trying to fix it and it still continued. The dealer I purchased from never mentioned it having a new motor, and I pulled the Carfax report and it shows several times it was in the shop including the motor replacement, but the shop visits aren't detailed it just says maintenance. Several mechanics we've spoken with say it's in the transmission, drivetrain. But the dealer refuses to do anything unless it'll replicate when they test drive it. But they don't test drive it on the highway or for a long enough time. Multiple owners now in multiple states the same problem and no one will help. This could be a catastrophic incident if the roads had been a little wet or someone was close enough behind us when it happened it would have been a serious car accident, if not worse. I am not sure you can help but Im reaching out to everything that I can find.

I purchased a 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali (VIN: [XXX] ) from J.C. Lewis Ford in Pooler, Georgia. The dealership did not disclose an active federal safety recall (NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V-xxx / GM XXX) related to engine connecting rod and crankshaft defects that can result in sudden engine failure and loss of propulsion. The Blue Certified delivery document they had me sign includes a section requiring disclosure of any open recalls, but they left the recall section blank and checked that all recalls were explained to me. No disclosure of any recall occurred during the sale. The vehicle developed engine problems within days and is currently in GMC service. The nondisclosure put me at risk of driving a vehicle with a known safety defect. I am reporting this as a dealer nondisclosure of a federal safety recall. Within 100 miles after purchasing this truck from GMC (used with 74K miles)I got messages both on my phone and later through inspection at GMC service center that the DEF system had a problem. The check engine light came on then off as well.I was getting messages saying I only had so many miles before the DEF system needed more fluid even though the tank was full or near full. The dealer here in Tucson indicated there was a bulletin on this problem and ordered parts for the repair. I was informed it was not a recall and I would have to pay over $800.00 for this repair. To date the dealer has had my truck for 2 weeks. Additionally, another message said insufficient coolant flow so they are installing a new coolant pump to be paid for by an after market warranty which I purchased at the time I bought the truck. This repair is over $1000.00

I am an active U.S. Air Force member. My 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 failed GM Recall N252494003 on Sept 29, 2025 (L87 engine loss of propulsion). GM states this defect can cause sudden engine failure and loss of propulsion, increasing crash risk. Despite the confirmed failure, Ocean Cadillac (Miami, FL) told me to keep driving the unsafe vehicle and refused all Courtesy Transportation. The Service Manager admitted in writing that the engine failed, the defect can cause loss of propulsion, and the replacement engine is delayed under GM National Control for up to 3 months — yet they still denied me a loaner or rental. His statements contradict the GM documents he attached: • GM Bulletin DCS7222 says Courtesy Transportation CAN be provided during L87 recall downtime and dealers MUST consider loaners/rentals. • GM FAQ N252494002 says Courtesy Transportation IS available for this recall. • GM FAQ lists recall symptoms (check engine light, hesitation, high RPM, reduced power) — NOT battery drain. • GM states: “If the engine fails, the vehicle WILL lose propulsion.” Ocean Cadillac ignored these rules and put me back on the road in a known unsafe vehicle. As an American manufacturer, GM has a responsibility to protect American drivers. Their failure to follow recall procedures placed me, my family, and other motorists at risk. I request NHTSA investigate whether GM/Ocean Cadillac are complying with recall safety requirements and whether customers are being told to drive unsafe vehicles after confirmed failures.
