  • 12/15/2025· ENGINE

Vehicle experienced sudden engine malfunction including rough idle, hard misfire, and flashing check engine light. Vehicle was diagnosed with a collapsed lifter and internal engine failure. Metallic debris was found in the engine oil, including silver and gold/bronze particles consistent with bearing material. A Chevrolet dealer inspected the vehicle and determined that the engine requires complete replacement due to internal mechanical failure. Vehicle is equipped with the 6.2L V8 (L87) engine. The failure occurred without warning and presents a safety concern due to potential loss of propulsion. This vehicle is not currently included in the existing GM 6.2L engine recall, despite exhibiting the same failure characteristics reported in other affected vehicles with the same engine and year that were included in the recall. Vehicle has not been driven since metal contamination was discovered to prevent further damage

I have a 2021 Chevy Suburban with the L87 6.2L V8 engine. At 7k miles, we have lost propulsion, leaving the car undrivable. resulted in the dealer replacing all 16 lifters under a recognized bulletin. I never received extended 6yr 100k mile powertrain warranty as described in the bulletin. Since then, There have been 3 other issues with loss of propulsion, resulting in replacement of fuel pump modulator. belt pulley system, One of the incidents left us without power or control of our vehicle on the interstate, with no where to pull over or get out of the way of oncoming semi trucks. The last incident again left the vehicle undriveable at 84k miles, with the dealer currently reporting that it is a lifter and cam shaft issue. Resulting in a 10k bill. They state that it is not covered under the recall of these engines because it is the top of the engine versus the bottom. Clearly, the engine oil problem noted in the recall has contributed to these issues . and the crankshaft not syncing properly with the lifters.

We towed the vehicle to a Chevrolet dealership where the found that the lifters in 1 bank needs to be replaced. This a known issue and a letter of coverage has been issued. Vehicle stalled while driving in center lane on I-4 in Orlando in traffic. There were no warnings prior to the vehicle stalling. When trying to restart it, the low fuel warning appeared along with the check engine light. I was unable to restart the vehicle leaving us stranded in the middle lane of I-4 in heavy traffic. FL Road Rangers arrived to offer aid and had to manually place the vehicle in Neutral under the vehicle at the transmission. Vehicle was then pushed off the highway onto the shoulder. Vehicle was towed to Starling Chevrolet which was the closest Chevrolet dealer from the incident. Starling's Service Department had to replace the battery in order to run a diagnostic. Once the battery was replace, the diagnostic indicated that the issue is with the Fuel Pump Power Control Module Part No. 13544060 / 13554821. This part is on back order with no known availability time provided. Vehicle is still sitting at Starling Chevrolet. Although my vehicle does not show any open recalls, I found that the fuel pump power control module for the 2021 Chevrolet Suburban is part of a known Product Safety Recall N212332040 Stall While Driving.

Went into limp mode on 11/6/25, took to the dealership where they found metal shavings in the oil due to a “stuck solenoid ‘A’”. Originally said that I’d need a whole new transmission, decided to do the cheaper easier repair and just replaced the valve train (not my choice) got it back on 11/13/25. On 11/24/25 I was on a very busy highway, at a red light, hit the gas when the light changed and the car didn’t move. Just revved the RPMs, then it suddenly lurched/surged forwards. Took it back to the dealership and they said “it doesn’t have any codes showing”. This is not normal behavior for a 4 year old vehicle with less than 40k miles on it.

I was driving and then the vehicle started running rough. There was no indication or warning lights before this happened. This is a huge safety issue because I could have had a wreck and injured people and my very own family. I took it to a Chevy dealership. They inspected the suburban and number 4 cylinder had a pool of oil in it. And they told me it need a new engine. Which it has the L87 engine that all the GM recalls are on. However, they are telling me mine isn't on the recall. They don't know if GM is going to cover it because it has 111,000 miles and it's out of the power train. It's the same engine they're having trouble with engines failures on. And I believe mine should be under the recall.

  • 11/13/2024· FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

The fuel pump power control module (p129F, I believe) failed. I was in the carpool line when the engine sputtered then turned off, and would not turn back on. The engine light also came on. I had to walk my children the rest of the way, then got a tow truck. There were no dash light or other indications of a problem ahead of time. My local GM dealership was not able to get to me for multiple days, so I towed the vehicle to an independent mechanic. The mechanic informed me that there was already a recall on this part (Recall number N212332040). I paid for the repair, and when I contacted GM, was told that my VIN was not included in this recall. I would like my VIN added to the recall and other VINs with this same part that were not originally included in the recall.

  • 11/13/2021· ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

Car suddenly swerved, loud knocking started. Multiple system failures started flashing. Forward collision, ECS, traction control, the car was vibrating, jerky. I have multiple videos as well. The dealership literally told me they’d seen a ton of these when I called immediately and then told me to keep driving because the damage was done and if the engine died well then it’s under warranty. I have 3 children under 5 and that is NOT an appropriate answer when I asked about it being safe to drive considering it’s jerky/shaking/knocking, and has multiple systems down. I’ve also googled and joined forums and this is apparently a common issue in the 2021 V8s and Chevy refuses to issue a recall. Would be more than happy to provide videos as well it won’t let me upload them with the photos. Was told it could be weeks before they even have parts

  • 11/12/2024· EXTERIOR LIGHTING

The headlamps are defective and unexpectedly break causing them to aim basically straight down towards the pavement making it unsafe to drive at night. In February of this year I took the vehicle to Cox Chevrolet in Bradenton and they said the headlamps would need to be replaced and it would cost several thousand dollars. I rarely need to drive at night and have been taking our son's car since then. There is a chance one broke and I didn't notice at first then the second one but, at this point, it is unsafe to drive the vehicle at night. I have found several posts on online forums where owners of other GM/Chevrolet vehicles with the same headlamps have had the same experience. Some have mentioned that an adjuster pin breaks and is not repairable (which I have confirmed with a service advisor at another Chevrolet dealership). I am [XXX] who drives responsibly (i.e. not going off road in my Suburban) so having an issue like this is of concern as it makes the vehicle suddenly unsafe to drive at night. This is not a defect that is noticeable during the day so anyone purchasing a used vehicle with this problem wouldn't know they essentially don't have headlamps (I can see maybe 10 feet in front of the car) until they get on the road at nighttime. • 11/07/2024· AIR BAGS,STRUCTURE,UNKNOWN OR OTHER

I was sold a vehicle from a dealership in Green Bay Wisconsin under the impression all safety regulations were met. The day I drove it off the lot, I had issues with the back drivers' door, making wind noise. I had messaged the salesman, he stated it may have been the door seal. Days went by, it wasn't sitting well with me, I made an appointment with a local body shop in. regard's to the door and suspicion of something not right. I brought it to the body shop, they informed me, that the back air bags were deployed and stuffed back into the roof, body work on the left side was done incorrectly and is very unsafe to drive, seat belts where my children sit were finger tightened, frame is held on by a bolt etc. The body shop states that if this vehicle were to be in an accident, it would not sustain impact the way vehicles are designed to do so. The owner of the dealership I had bought from refuses to come to an agreement about this situation. I have all the paperwork and documents from the body shop along with another local dealership near me who I also brought it to look it over as well so the owner could understand that this vehicle should have never been able to be sold on his lot. They also agree that this is super unsafe and should not be driven until it is fixed properly and all safety standards should be met. They believe that it should have been totaled out, it is very obvious that the left side was hit and smashed in. I also asked the owner if he would feel safe for his children to drive in this vehicle and he said, “no” I have many documents/pictures/reports to share once needed.

The fuel pump power control module caused the fuel pump to fail and resulted in unexpected engine stall. The issue cause me and my 4 children to be stuck in the middle of the road waiting for a tow truck for over 3 hours. The vehicle could only be put in neutral while the car was on. Since I couldn’t start my car I could not put it in neutral to move the vehicle out of 2 way traffic. We want the issue confirmed by the dealership but the police who aided me and my children inspected the vehicle and recommend getting the fuel pump look at. No warnings were displayed.

See attached document for complaint. To Whom It May Concern, I am writing regarding the recall on my 2021 Chevy Suburban. While I understand there is currently no active solution for the issue, I want to stress the seriousness of the situation. As a mother of [REDACTED] living in Wisconsin, I am deeply concerned that if my truck were to shut down due to engine failure and we could not get help quickly, my family would be exposed to the risks from the fire that inevitably could arrive. Given the harsh winters there, this poses an unacceptable safety risk. Additionally, I paid for an extended warranty, believing I had plenty of coverage left. I recently brought my vehicle in only to be told that I was 500 miles past the 60,000-mile limit, I was under the impression the warranty had not expired, and if I had known otherwise, I would have brought it in much sooner. This issue has been ongoing for at least 6 months, and I have been aware of the mileage restriction, I would have scheduled service well before this point. On top of that, my Suburban continues to emit the smell of burnt oil. It is embarrassing to have my vehicle smell like it's burning every time I drive it, and it raises serious concerns about my health. Breathing in burnt oil fumes regularly cannot be good for my lungs or overall well-being. This issue has also created a financial burden for me, as I am currently trying to sell the vehicle. In its present condition—with the burning oil smell and unresolved recall—it is essentially unsellable. No buyer wants to take on these risks and uncertainties, leaving me stuck with a vehicle I can neither comfortably drive nor reasonably sell. This matter is not just about inconvenience. It is about safety, that matters, and other concerns, trust and accountability. Chevrolet has marketed its vehicles as reliable, family-safe transportation, and I want to feel assured that GM takes immediate action to properly address this oil consumption and/or issue. Anything less is unacceptable when it comes to the safety of families who trust your brand. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The headlight adjuster failed. As a result, the headlight points straight down creating a safety issue at night. I have read online this is a common problem on suburbans and tahoes. This happened on my car around 60k miles and only ~3 years.

  • 10/25/2023· FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Fuel pump incident identified in recall N212332040. NHTSA says our 2021 Suburban was not involved in the recall. But the incident happened 3 separate times. Our dealer made the repair under warranty.

  • 10/19/2024· WHEELS

The 22 inch rims on my vehicle are cast aluminum I'm assuming. I have had several cracks causing me to rapidly loose air on the tires while driving at highway speeds. I have had three cracks in different rims within the last week and have had the rims repaired twice. The vehicle has 75k miles on it. This is a major concern and safety issue. I've never seen that many cracks happen at once. Some say well your hitting potholes but that isn't the case here.

  • 10/16/2024· WHEELS

Rims keep cracking on the inside where the tire is sealed. This has happen a total of three times to both front and rear passenger side. Tire pressures are 36psi as recommended by manufacturer. No major pot holes or other road hazards have been hit.

While night driving driver noticed the driver side headlight completly pointing down providing no visibility. Vehicle was brought into GM dealership where is was discovered the Driver LED headlight adjuster screw broken causing a safety issue, where the light beam pointed down. Vehicle light assembly is currently being inspected for replacement under manufacture warranty under 36,000 miles.

  • 10/04/2025· ENGINE

Engine while driving completely seized up. Crank shaft, cam shaft and oil pump water pump replaced. Low oil pressure alarm code present then sudden loss of power. Piston blown. There are similar recalls to 2021 suburbans however, this specific model is not in the recall. I was told I need a completely new engine. The car died in the middle of traffic and police had to call an emergency tow truck.

  • 10/04/2022· SEAT BELTS

I'm writing to complain about the proposed temporary resolution of the recall. I received a letter today advising me that repair parts were unavailable and that I should simply not use the third row seats until the inspection/repairs are completed. Like many people who own Suburbans, I bought this vehicle because we are a family of six. This is the only vehicle in our home that can fit both adults and all four children. Not using the third row is simply not an option for us. This is an unacceptable solution, no matter how temporary.

The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated while driving 55 MPH, the vehicle shut off unexpectedly and failed to restart. The transmission was in park(P) and failed to shift to neutral(N). The contact stated that several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V739000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who determined that the failure was due to the fuel pump module. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the failure was due to the module and a battery replacement was needed. The dealer jumpstarted the vehicle. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.

  • 09/27/2024· VISIBILITY/WIPER

Yesterday marked the 2nd time that the front windshield wipers on my 2021 Chevy Suburban (58k miles) randomly stopped working while driving down the highway in a rainstorm. They would not come out of the resting position regardless on what setting they were put to on the wheel switch. They continued to not work for the hour drive back to my house. The last time this happened all fuses, motor, etc were checked and tested good. The wipers started working again a day or so later, using the windshield wiper fluid button to test. This marks the second time my family has been put in a situation driving on the highway in a rainstorm with the wipers randomly stopping to work and having to navigate to safety with extremely limited visibility. This appears to be a fairly common issue with newer GM vehicles with the auto sense technology, found plenty of forums with the same experience. The major concern I have is that when this happens the wipers don’t work at all in any mode. Even trying to run in manual mode rather than auto sense the wipers will not move from the resting position. It leaves a driver with zero way to clear rain and see when this randomly occurs.

  • 09/19/2022· WHEELS,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

With cruise control activated, at least 10 times since I bought this expensive vehicle the automated emergency braking activated at highway speeds - causing the vehicle to full brake without warning and nearly causing an accident each time (handling risk and risk of being impacted from behind by a following vehicle). I have formally reported this issue to dealers in MN and MT, and they only thing they said was they could not duplicate the condition during brief test rides and this was not a know problem. I personally know this was a known problem and GM did a safety recall for this condition on MY15-20 Suburbans. This condition is definitely an unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety. In additional, the original tires supplied by GM (Firestone) failed under normal driving conditions after only about 35,000 miles, and both GM and Firestone denied there was any warranty coverage. Since then, new Les Schwab tires failed at about the same mileage. Something is obviously not right with this vehicle, and this condition is also an unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety. Finally, last week my front passenger wheel cracked. I have not hit anything significantly hard with that wheel - but it is nonetheless cracked. This is also obviously defective and an unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety.

The headlight adjustment screw is broken. Was never used or adjusted and now the headlights point to the ground. GM does not offer a replacement part for the adjustment screw, the only fix is to purchase a whole new headlight assembly which is roughly $1,000 before installation costs. This causes a dangerous situation since the drivers side headlight points to the ground and it is hard to see in front of you at night.

After getting it serviced for airbag issue at the blasius chevrolet dealership in waterbury, ct. A week later, the car was was shaking while driving back home for work, the ESC message came up, forward collision came up, and traction control message also came up. Dropped it off at the dealership and said it was bad gas. Two days later, I was told that the misfire is caused by the lifter and pushrod was broken and that another 2021 suburban came in with the same issue but was suggesting it was our fault. There has been alot issues L84 engine that the misfire is due to a collapse lifter with less than 20K miles.

We have had several incidents of issues with the engine and electrical system. There are as follows: - NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS and engine failed. - Engine continues to be sluggish and hesitant. Headlights do not come on when in "auto" and it is dark outside. - Doors lock with the keys inside and the engine is off. - Keys are showing in sleep mode or not present when they are present. The engine went down on May 6, 2021 and I was on the highway with 2 of my children. I could not accelerate. There was traffic and could not keep up. I was able to get the truck to the delearship to have inspected and repair attempted. NO check engine lights.

While driving along on a city street, the check engine light came on. Once I turned onto the highway, there was a pop from the engine, and the vehicle started missing and vibrating. I turned around and drove the vehicle back home. A mechanic looked at it and said there were a lot of problems and recalls on these vehicles for misfiring. He said the problem is the lifters and they need to be replaced as soon as possible. He encouraged me not to drive it due to it may cause more damage.

I was driving when I received messages saying service ESC, Forward collision System Unavailable, & Service Traction Control. The vehicle began to shake hard when I applied brakes, had loss of power when pressing the gas pedal, and sounded like metal grinding. All of this put my children & I at risk as we were on interstate 35 with cars flying past us and I’m losing power. Initially the spark plugs and coil was were changed to no repair. It was towed to a dealership where they confirmed the lifter & cam failed which put metal in the oil. My only option is a full engine replacement costing 20k on a vehicle that’s 4yrs old. It’s not ok that I have to spend that in order to get my 70k car drivable. Im now without a car, still paying a car note, unable to get my kids places, and having to get help from friends all bc GM can’t build a quality vehicle. I also haven’t been able to get a loaner car. This isn’t happening in only the 6.3L. This is a widely known issue with the 5.3L as well. *There were ZERO warning signs that something was wrong. Drive just fine that morning*

This vehicle has been towed approximately 7 times in the last year. For all instances in [XXX] in 2025, the dealership told us there were no issues. The completed the recall on the L87 and it 'passed'. The dealership then updated the oil to 40W and sent us on our way. We continued to have issues, but it was deemed to be the transmission. We had that relaced earlier this year. On XXX the car shut off again while driving on a highway. Upon this dealership taking a look at it, they have determined the engine has locked up for reasons under the L87 recall. I wanted to note this with the NHTSA as the recall was completed, but later found that it was not actually corrected through their guidance within the recall. The computer component surged, and the vehicle is available for inspection. The vehicle brake function is lost. Stepping on the brake paddle did not apply brake. Brake function was disabled by the computer. I took the vehicle to dealer, they said it was a component that has high resistance that cause it. But not sure why it has high resistance at that time and the resistance is gone after driver restarted the vehicle. No one else inspected the component beside the dealership. There was no warning at all and this is the first time it happens. Driver was just driving normally and suddenly all the light in the instructment panel started blinking and driver tried to apply brake but nothing happen. Luckly it wasn't rush hour, and driver was able to let the vehicle roll to the freeway exit on ram and use the up ram to slow the vehicle until it almost stop and changed gear to Park to stop the vehicle. Driver then restarted the vehicle and the problem is gone.
