This is now the second time that we are having a rear hatch failure. with about 37,000 miles on this van, the control module shorted out due to water getting into it due to a bad seam (according to other Odyssey owners who are suing Honda for this). We could not get the hatch to open or close, so I paid the dealer to fix it. Honda did give us a check after the fact to cover some of the bill. Now, with less than 51,000 miles, it has happened again. The hatch will not open or close. In the event of an emergency, this is a major safety issue, to be potentially stuck inside the cabin. The hatch started going up and down randomly, and we could not control it. Now, it won't go up or down. This van is is a mess. Not only does it have this issues, but the rear back up camera still does not work, even though it was recalled...they would not honor their recall, and the brakes occasionally come on without cause, when going around a corner and there is oncoming traffic. It thinks that we are headed for a collision, and it's another safety problem here in the northeast. Honda needs to own up to their quality problems relative to these three safety issues.

FEDERAL SAFETY RECALL 23V-431 FAILED AFTER FOUR REPAIR ATTEMPTS - MULTIPLE SAFETY SYSTEMS NOW NON-FUNCTIONAL My Honda was subject to Federal Safety Recall 23V-431 (MOST Communication Cable causing backup camera failure). After FOUR repair attempts, the original defect persists AND multiple additional safety-critical systems are now failing. REPAIR HISTORY: August 7, 2023 (30,749 miles) - Honda San Carlos performed recall repair 23V-431. Dealer claimed issue resolved. October 5, 2024 - Original backup camera/infotainment failure returned. I documented with photo evidence but problem was intermittent. September 29, 2025 (48,038 miles) - Returned to Honda San Carlos. Same backup camera failure. Dealer attempted repair. November 18, 2025 (48,928 miles) - Returned to Honda San Carlos. Problem persists. Dealer claimed repair complete. December 20, 2025 - Returned to Honda San Carlos. Original problem PLUS multiple NEW safety system failures now appearing: Backup camera (original recall issue) - STILL FAILING Adaptive Cruise Control - ERROR Collision Mitigation System - ERROR Lane Keep Assist System - ERROR Auto High Beam System - ERROR Front camera - ERROR DEALER RESPONSE: Honda San Carlos now claims new failures are "unrelated" to recall 23V-431 and proposes $2,900 for front camera replacement. I declined as all failing systems communicate via the MOST network that was subject to the original recall. SAFETY CONCERN: I now have a vehicle with MULTIPLE non-functional federally-mandated and safety-critical systems due to what appears to be the same MOST communication defect that recall 23V-431 was supposed to fix. The recall remedy has demonstrably failed and the problem is worsening. Honda's recall remedy is inadequate and has resulted in cascading safety system failures. Vehicle is unsafe to operate with non-functional collision mitigation, lane keep assist, and camera systems.

  • 12/29/2024· FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE,LANE DEPARTURE

I am writing to report a significant safety issue with my 2020 Honda Odyssey. The Front Assembly Assist Monocular Camera (OEM part 36160-THR-C01-M1) has failed, causing the loss of several critical safety features, including auto high beam, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation, and Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS). The local Honda dealership diagnosed the issue as an internal fault in the camera unit. Through research, I have discovered this failure is not an isolated incident. Numerous reports from other Odyssey owners highlight similar issues with the camera leading to the deactivation of these safety features. For example, discussions on the Honda Odyssey Forum and other online platforms describe widespread failures of front-camera-dependent systems, including lane-keeping and collision avoidance features. These failures compromise vehicle safety, potentially increasing the risk of accidents. The camera’s malfunction disables essential systems designed to enhance driver awareness and prevent collisions, leaving drivers vulnerable in critical situations. I respectfully request that the NHTSA investigate this issue, as the consistency of these reports suggests a systemic problem. A recall or corrective action may be necessary to ensure the safety and reliability of these vehicles. Thank you for your attention to this important matter.

  • 12/29/2024· FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

After owning this vehicle for a little over a year without issues, I turned on the vehicle and randomly received the following five (5) error messages: Collision Mitigation System Problem, Lane Keeping Assist Problem (LKAS), Adaptive Cruise Control Problem (ACC), Road Departure Mitigation System Problem, and Auto High-Beam Problem. I realized that other Honda Odyssey owners have mentioned receiving the same error messages, especially around my year (2020). The believe all of the error messages are related to the same component - either faulty wiring, camera system, or install issue. The error messages come on every time I turn on the vehicle now. I live in Texas and the first day it occurred was especially hot - it first occurred in the summer months. It is now December with mild weather and the error messages still occur. It is worrisome because the Collision Mitigation System was among the safety features that contributed to us purchasing the vehicle.

  • 12/29/2022· ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

The speakers of our Odyssey crackle and pop despite completing the recall (MOST bus connectors) recommended by Honda. It has progressed to affect the entire infotainment unit. The unit shutdowns repeatedly while driving which means that the backup camera fails, as well as any navigation one is using while traveling. The hands-free phone features are also affected as one cannot connect their phone to the car. We've attempted repairs at the Honda dealership but they have been unable to provide a permanent fix. Each time they try to replace a connector or un-kink a wire, the problem returns within days. Most recently, the battery died and the car was unable to start due to the constant restarting of the infotainment center.

Not sure about which component failed and put my family and I in significant danger. We had just come to a stop at a traffic light at the end of a highway exit ramp when the car shut off without warning. Completely off. Hazard lights didn’t even work. Nothing worked. Took a minute or two until the vehicle restarted as if nothing had happened. Cars were coming up fast behind us and had to move quickly to get around us. This was late at night so we were hard to spot without any working lights. Thank the Lord no one was injured. I suspect it has something to do with the idle-stop feature. This incident happened within the last 2 hours so it hasn’t been reproduced or confirmed by a service center. Please require Honda into issue a recall for whatever caused this defect.

Multi-Purpose camera has failed according to Honda dealership. No safety features work in the car. You pay for the car to have these features and then they fail after only 3 years? Have been dealing with this issue for almost 2 years now. Honda wants $1,800 for the new camera. This is a safety issue that Honda should be responsible for fixing. No adaptive cruise control, no lane keeping assist, no auto headlights, no collision mitigation, no blind spot alarms.

  • 12/22/2023· UNKNOWN OR OTHER,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

The car stalled when stopped at a red traffic light. This happened on 2 occasions, 11-3-23 and 12-9-23. The second time other cars behind us had to go around us while we tried to restart the car which put them at risk of being hit by cars in the other lanes. There was no warning. I took the car in for regular maintenance a few days ago during which the dealership did a multi point inspection but did not discuss this issue. Yesterday I heard about the fuel pump recall and think this might be the same issue. I called the dealership today but they said our car is not under the recall. Our car is available for inspection upon request.

  • 12/16/2024· POWER TRAIN

While driving on highway, 3 hours away from home, all of a sudden van slowed down and jerking and shaking with loud grinding movement sound from the van started. No warning sign displayed on the dashboard display screen and no warning alert either. Luckily got out of the exit and parked the van. Van was not going beyond first gear and jerking and shaking and making loud grinding sound. Van was not drivable safely. Towed to the local Honda dealership which was 30 miles away. Dealership checked the Van and diagnosed that the 10 speed Automatic transmission has failed and need a new transmission now. There is no warning sign or error on the dashboard display and any warning alert even after this incident happened. I am very disappointed that such an expensive van has no good warning sing or alert system for transmission failure, even though vehicle has computer to monitor every small thing but no good warning system for most expensive automatic Transmission system. This is total lack of care and failure on the part of manufacturer Honda, which did not put some good warning system on these defective automatic transmissions. These sudden failures can cause catastrophic accidents on the highways and roads. This sudden failure of transmission should have been a recall for defective manufacturing of 10 speed automatic transmission in Honda Odyssey van.

At first this was intermittent but now on constantly when starting and driving car. Only 55k miles on my Odyssey. Dealer said he had 3 of these in the last three months. I don’t feel safe driving this car with my family. Therefore NHTSA should get Honda to issue a recall for this vehicle given the magnitude and sheer scale of the problem. Summary of the Problem: The power tailgate motor on my 2020 Honda Odyssey has failed multiple times, causing the liftgate to stop midway, refuse to open, or abruptly close on its own. This failure creates a safety risk because the tailgate can unexpectedly drop or close on adults or children standing underneath it. Detailed Description: The tailgate motor on my 2020 Honda Odyssey has stopped working correctly on three different occasions. I have taken the vehicle to the Honda dealership repeatedly and have paid hundreds of dollars for repairs, yet the problem keeps returning. The tailgate will randomly stop while opening, won't fully lift, or will close unexpectedly and forcefully. This is especially dangerous when loading children or cargo, as the tailgate can fall without warning. After researching online, I found many other 2020 Odyssey owners reporting the same tailgate motor failure, indicating that this is a widespread issue rather than normal wear. The repeated failure suggests a potential design or safety defect. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this recurring malfunction as a potential safety issue and determine whether a recall or corrective action is necessary.

BRAKE MADE LOUD SQUEAK NOISE RIGHT AFTER PURCHASE AND TOOK IT TO LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP WHERE CAR WAS PURCHASED 4 TIMES. HONDA DEALERSHIP RESURFACED ROTOR 2 DIFFERENT TIMES. ABOUT 12-14 DAYS AGO, HONDA ODYSSEY BRAKE FAILED WHEN GOING DOWN AT SLIGHT GRADE. WHEN BRAKE PADDLE WAS APPLIED, ENTIRE VAN, INCLUDING STEERING WHEEL SHAKE AND VAN FAILED TO STOP. MY DRIVING HABIT OF LEAVING LARGE GAP BETWEEN VEHICLE SAVED MY LIFE. IT TOOK APPROXIMATELY 1/3 OR 0.33 MILE TO BRING CAR TO STOP. I SAVED MY LIFE ALONG WITH OTHER ON ROAD ON THIS INCIDENT. VAN IS PARKED IN GARAGE AND NOT BEING DRIVEN UNTIL HONDA NORTH AMERICA AND/OR NHTSA | NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION INSPECT THE VEHICLE.

Dash has warning light showing "Power Tailgate Problem", and power tailgate will not function. The next day there was heavy rain, and the dash had a flickering warning showing the tailgate was open. This also caused the interior lights to flicker on and off as the tailgate open warning was flickering on and off. I returned the van to my home for fear that the tailgate would open automatically while driving down the road. I had the tailgate control module replaced on February 27, 2025 for this same issue, which was due to a tailgate seal leaking water onto the tailgate control module that shorted the module. This is now the second time within less than one year this same module has shorted out. This is a known issue with a class action lawsuit already filed against Honda that should result in a recall. The potential danger of the tailgate opening while driving makes this minivan not usable to transport my kids for fear of their safety.

Car was operating fine on the way to a game on 11/25/2024. Parked and went inside to watch game. After the game I went to my car and when I cranked it all the warnings below came on. **Auto High Beam problem **ACC problem **Brake System problem **LKAS problem those are the warnings I can remember. I immediately cut the car off and walked around to see if maybe I had been hit while parked cause something told me it could be a camera issue with the LKAS problem ‍♀️. I had not been hit. The car was fine and just as it was when I parked it. I cranked it again and the lights were still on showing problems and stayed on. I took it to the dealership and they said it's the multi-purpose camera malfunction/went out and needs new one.

FREQUENT LOUD CRACKLING NOISES COME FROM THE SPEAKERS, FOLLOWED BY A NETWORK CONNECTION LOST ERROR MESSAGE ON THE SCREEN, AND THEN THE SCREEN WILL GO BLACK AND EVENTUALLY THE SYSTEM WILL REBOOT. THIS WILL HAPPEN REPEATEDLY WHILE DRIVING AND DOES NOT DEPEND ON THE STATE OR USE OF THE INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM (IT CAN BE OFF AND STILL HAPPEN). THERE SEEMS TO BE A CORRELATION WITH GOING OVER A BUMP, SUGGESTING A LOOSE CONNECTION SOMEWHERE. WHEN RESTARTING OR OFF, THE RADIO, CLIMATE CONTROLS AND THE BACKUP CAMERA ARE ALL UNAVAILABLE. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AS IT DISTRACTS THE DRIVER AND ALSO PREVENTS USAGE OF THE BACKUP CAMERA. BEGAN HAPPENING INTERMITTENTLY AT AROUND 1500 MILES AND NOW AT ~1700 MILES IT HAPPENS ESSENTIALLY ALL THE TIME. PLEASE ADDRESS THIS ISSUE SOONEST POSSIBLE. The forward facing camera failed on my 2020 Odyssey with only 90,000 miles. Because of this failure, I am loosing all my forward facing safety features. This seems to be a common issue across many Honda vehicles and most users report being told the issue is being caused by overheating. Since users are being told this is a cause and effect issue, the manufacturer should address this at their expense. I first noticed this issue in mid September 2025.

My wife started hearing a knocking sound while driving, coming from under the hood. I opened the hood while the engine was idling and could tell the sound was coming from inside the engine. Checked the oil level and it was in the operating range and looked clean. I had just changed the oil and filter 08/2025. After that we immediately drove it to the Honda dealer where we purchased the vehicle and the service manager heard the noise, checked for recalls, but could only find the recall for the 2019 Honda Odyssey [XXX] The service manager called in one of his mechanics to listen to the noise in the service manager bay and he said, "Sounds like a bad rod bearing". They then took the vehicle to inspect it further in the mechanic's garage, but as they were pulling it into the bay the engine complete seized up. The vehicle only has 68k miles on it, but now its beyond the warranty period. I was also told by the dealer when I purchased it, that it and the 2019 are identical, so why was the recall issued for the 2019 Odyssey, but not the 2020 model? I'm reading lots of similar reports of this same exact issue with the 2020 model from Honda forums and on youtube posts. This engine problem is clearly larger than the initial recall that was issued in 2024. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The entire ADAS system has begun loosing sensing capabilities for a time period but start working again later. It comes and goes regularly at this point. This inconsistency could cause and accident. There are system problem warning lights on the dash when the system is down. The car is too new for this issue. The dealer reports that the front camera is the issue but I would think it has more to do with the wiring possibly shorting out.

While stopped in preparation to make a left turn across traffic on a 4 lane road, our 2020 Honda Odyssey engine stalled- the engine idle stop function did not restart the engine as designed. We had to restart our car, but the car did not immediately restart, it took us 2-3 attempts. There was no prior warning or indication there was a problem. Several times over the last 18-24 months my van has 'stalled' after the auto engine start/stop feature restarts my car. This has mostly happened while at stop lights/signs, or idle. However, it has happened twice while driving, my car will just die and slow dramatically. I have been able to restart by pushing the start/engine button. There has been two times where restarting (while idle) has not worked. Most recently it happened while at a stop light. when the light turned green I went to accelerate and the van would not move, all the dash lit up, and there was no power to the engine. It took several minutes to get the van restarted, holding up traffic and causing me panic and fear that I could be hit.

My vehicle has the engine idle option and shuts the engine off when idle in traffic or at traffic lights, etc. There have been incidents where the engine doesn't just shut off but it powers off the entire car and doesn't want to turn back on. My battery is fine because i just had service done on it and they tested the battery and its 100% fine. This issue is not a battery issue for my car. I literally had PTSD when the car shut off though because it happened at a location on the roadway where i had previously been rear ended in another vehicle and after my car shut off this time - my anxiety was very high that day and i was literally shaking. I was scared not knowing what was wrong with my car.

The center infotainment display does not have any visuals anymore. It started with cameras and displays glitching in and out for about 1&1/2 years. The problem wasn’t too bad, but in Aug 2021, the radio started to not work, and then we began hearing 3 tapping noises every 2 seconds while the engine was on. Now the screen is black and has no displays at all. We brought the van in to the dealership and they said parts had to be ordered. The Honda Advisor told me that this was a problem that they are aware of that happens often with this particular model. It’s been 3 months and nothing has been done. When I called back to check on the parts and progress to see when I can get it fixed, the service department changed their narrative and now they know nothing about any issues like that. We cannot use any functions like rear view display, heat or AC controls, and anything else that are displayed on the infotainment screen. We have 4 kids all under age 6, and my fear is that one child may sneak out and walk behind our van while we are backing out. The mirrors can only see so much, but the rear camera can give a better view of anything low and short.

I had a Recall on my 2020 Honda Odyssey Vin # [XXX] for NHTSA Recall # 23V-431. The recall was for rear camera failure. The Fix was to replace MOST cable harness. In Early October 2023 my rear view camera did fail and no longer conformed to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No 111, “Rear Visibility” I took my Honda Odyssey to Serra Brighton Honda for repair , Serra Brighton Honda replaced the cable and it did not fix the problem. I was told it was the camera which was not part of the recall and was charged $302.42 for replacement of the camera, Invoice # [XXX]. It only seems logical to me that if “Rear Visibility” is a Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard , the camera should have been included as part of the fix. It could have been possible that the cable shorted out and damaged the camera’s electronics. My Honda only has 21,500 miles and is always stored in a garage and has never been in an accident.
