- SEATS:MID/REAR ASSEMBLYCampaign 21V765000 · 30/09/2021
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2020-2021 Ranger Super Cab vehicles equipped with rear seats containing fixed head restraints. The fixed head restraints may interfere with proper installation of certain types of child seats. Additionally, the child seat may not attach properly to the lower-rear anchors. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 225, "Child Restraint Anchorage System."
Risk: An improperly attached child seat can increase the risk of injury in a crash.
Fix: Dealers will inspect the rear-lower child restraint anchorages for correct alignment and adjust as necessary. Separately, dealers will replace the non-removable head restraints with removable head restraints, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters were mailed on November 5, 2021. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard numbers 208, "Occupant Crash Protection" and 209, "Seat Belt Assemblies."
Risk: A misrouted seat belt may not adequately restrain an occupant in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
Fix: Ford will provide owners with instructions to perform a preliminary inspection of their front seat belts. Owners that detect an issue with the driver's seat belt, are unsure of the results, or do not want to perform an inspection, should not drive their vehicles and contact a Ford dealership. Dealers will inspect the front row outboard seat belts and replace them, if necessary, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters were mailed on November 5, 2021. Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2016-2019 Lincoln MKC, 2016-2023 Explorer, 2019-2020 Fusion, 2019-2024 Ranger, 2020-2022 Lincoln Corsair, Escape, 2021-2024 Bronco, Bronco Sport, and 2022-2024 Maverick vehicles. The engine block heater may crack and develop a coolant leak, causing it to short circuit when the block heater is plugged in.
Risk: An electrical short circuit can increase the risk of a fire.
Fix: Owners are advised not to plug in their block heater until the vehicle is remedied. Dealers will replace the block heater, free of charge. Owners will also have a alternative option to replace engine block heater element with a threaded blanking plug, and remove the block heater electrical cord. Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2020 Ranger and F-150 vehicles equipped with 10-speed automatic transmissions and certain 2020 Expedition vehicles equipped with a "police" package. The transmission shift cable lock clip may not be fully seated, allowing the transmission to actually be in a different gear than the gear shift position selected by the driver.
Risk: If the transmission selection does not match the indicated gear selection, and the parking brake is not applied, unintended vehicle movement can occur, increasing the risk of injury or crash.
Fix: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and correct the shift cable locking clip installation, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began April 27, 2020. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20S18.

MY TRUCK(2020 FORD RANGER) HAS FUEL CONTAMINATION IN THE ENGINE OIL. I CHANGED THE OIL FOR THE FIRST TIME WHEN THE TRUCK HAD 860 MILES ON IT. THE OIL REEKED OF GASOLINE WHEN I CHANGED IT. I SENT THE OIL INTO BLACKSTONE FOR ANALYSIS AND THE RESULTS SHOWED A 4.3% FUEL DILUTION OF THE OIL, WHICH ACCORDING TO THE COMPANY IS A CAUTIONARY LEVEL. THEY ALSO STATED THE OIL VISCOSITY WAS LOW AND PROBABLY DUE TO FUEL DILUTION. I OPENED A FORD CUSTOMER COMPLAINT (CAS-29025613) AND TOOK IT TO DEALER. THE DEALER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND SAID NOTHING IS NEEDING REPAIR AT THIS TIME. NO TSB'S ARE LISTED FOR THIS COMPLAINT. THE DEALER SAID THEY TRIED CALLING FORD TO UPDATE THE COMPLAINT CLAIM WITH THEIR FINDINGS BUT COULDN'T DO SO BECAUSE WAS ALREADY CLOSED! VERY FRUSTRATING. THERE ARE SEVERAL OTHER FORD RANGER OWNERS (ON RANGER5.COM FORUMS) WHO ALSO COMPLAIN OF HAVING FUEL DILUTION IN THEIR OIL AND FORD HAS YET TO TAKE THEM SERIOUSLY AND INVESTIGATE THE ROOT CAUSE.

I bought my 2020 Ford Ranger preowned with around 64k miles on it. After having owned it for about 6 months or so, I started to notice lots of problems with the transmission. After first noticing it, the problems persisted for a couple more months until I finally decided to address it. The problems were very characteristic of transmission slippage, and they got progressively worse week by week, which it what ultimately prompted me to address it. When accelerating and shifting through the lower gears (15-30 MPHs, approximately), the shift would be delayed and lag a couple seconds. This would often cause stalling in the acceleration, particularly when going from a stop to a start, such as through traffic lights. There were also very rough and aggressive shifts at higher gears when driving on the highway. It would feel like rough jolts that would rock the truck a little. Also transitioning the truck into reverse often caused serious jolts as the transmission shifted very aggressively. Eventually, I took my truck into an AMCO transmission shop for inspection. They confirmed that my transmission was damaged and needed replaced. This was at about 86k miles. I took the truck into a Ford dealership to get a second opinion and they also confirmed my transmission needed replaced. I went ahead and had the transmission replaced at that point. The replacement was done with the truck at 86k miles. The Ford dealership replaced the 10R80 transmission with a re-manufactured 10R80. It has now been about 8k miles and 9 months since the transmission was replaced, and the re-manufactured transmission is starting to experience similar problems. Mostly with a lag when shifting in lower gears and hard jolts when placing it in reverse. The problems are not as bad as the original transmission before I had it replaced, but some still remain. There were no warning lamps or messages with this problem. Ford's 10R80 transmission is notorious for failing and being a safety problem to the public.
- 12/29/2023· POWER TRAIN
The 10 speed automatic transmission has a problem. Yes the problem was verified by the Dealer. Yes the Dealer has had the car 3 separate times and worked on the issue. The transmission when starting out from a stop will fall on its face with no power to move from the stop. 2-4 seconds and then it takes off. When pulling out into traffic this condition is very unsafe and could cause an accident. Now it is starting to do it as traveling at speed and light acceleration it will hesitate before it goes. This is an intermittent problem not doing it all the time .

- 12/23/2025· SUSPENSION
Brought the vehicle to the dealer for standard 40,000 mile service. When it was raised on their lift, the rear end dropped out because both driver and passenger side leaf springs had broken at the mount bushings. The springs had been broken for some time, as there was significant rust at the broken points. The truck drove normally. This was only discovered once the truck was on a service lift. The weight of the truck was resting on the intact part of the springs, but may have completely disconnected if I had hit a large enough bump while the springs were broken. This would certainly have caused a loss of control, and likely resulted in a crash. The dealer confirmed that this was a manufacturer defect. Despite being past the warranty period, Ford agreed that this is a defect. They used the "Ford ESP" extended service plan to with the cost to perform the repair, though I did not have an extended service contract. I searched the internet, because this should not be possible on a vehicle with this age and mileage. I discovered many reports of similar occurrences on the 2019-2022 Rangers. [XXX] [XXX] I found similar reports on Reddit and other sites. This is dangerous and appears to be a common defect. WHEN I START THE CAR, IT MAKES A RATTLE NOISE AND WHEN THE ENGINE WARMS UP, IT GOES AWAY, BUT EVERY TIME I ACCELERATE, YOU CAN HEAR THE RATTLE AGAIN AND WHEN I REMOVE MY FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATION PEDAL, THE RATTLE GOES AWAY AND LIKE THAT EVERY TIME I ACCELERATE. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND EXPLAINED THEM ABOUT THE NOISE AND LATER THAT DAY, THEY CALLED AND TOLD THAT IN THE 2019 AND 2020 FORD RANGER, THE ENGINE CAME WITH A NOISE AND IT'S NORMAL IN THE ENGINE, THAT THEY WERE TOLD BY FORD NOT TO ATTEMPT TO FIX IT BECAUSE THE NOISE IS PART OF THE ENGINE. IT DOES NOT SOUND RIGHT AND IF IN THE FUTURE I WANT TO SELL I PROBABLY WOULDN'T BECAUSE OF THE NOISE. IF THEY HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENGINE I'M OKAY WITH IT, BUT I WANT THAT RATTLE NOISE OUT OF MY TRUCK
- 12/13/2025· POWER TRAIN
When starting to accelerate, the automatic transmission shifts hart into second or third gear, and sometime has no power, like it is idling for 5 to 7 seconds before engaging. The problem has been reproduced and confirmed by Quirk Ford of Augusta, Maine who said I must have had a faulty transmission from the factory. The safety issue is hesitation from the occasional loss of power during the hard shift which could put one in danger of being rear ended. The were no warning indicators except the sudden jarring during hard shift. Other than the problem being diagnosed by the dealer, it has not been inspected. Hard shift first appeared around 75,000 miles. Dealer flushed and Changed fluid. Reappeared with loss of power during around 130,000 miles. Transmission being replaced 12/15/25 at $9200. Ford basically said it was my problem. I have had two ford rangers before that I drove for over 230;000 miles each without any transmission issues. Clearly the 10 speed transmission is flawed and needs a recall.

At one point, the heat/ac would blow air but would not heat or cool. This was about a month and a half ago., There was an electrical burning smell, and at that point the system would not heat or cool. The burning smell has since subsided. I took the truck to Santa Maria Ford to have it looked at and have my oil changed. I was told that it would cost 3500.00 to repair the issue. I looked the issue up and I found that the 2019 Ford Ranger had been recalled for this exacted issue. I felt that it was just a matter of time before the 2020 Ford Ranger would be recalled for this item. I decided to I should submit this form to be on the safe side.

Since purchase I have been experiencing problems due due a poorly built transmission. The 10R80 transmission has been the opposite of what I expected when purchasing a new vehicle. I have experienced extremely harsh up-shifting and downshifting, as well as slipping gears while in motion which causes a loss of power while the vehicle is in motion. The most concerning of these is when the gear seems to slip while driving and when the accelerator is depressed the engine will only rev for a few seconds and then harshly clunk into a gear which will cause a jolt in the forward motion which has cause me to lock up my brakes in order to avoid hitting another vehicle. In addition to these I have also experienced harsh clunking and jolting forward or backwards when selecting gears. All of these are of great concern to me of course. I have tried contacting numerous Ford dealerships and shops to try and fix this problem and I continue to get the run around. I have since looked up recalls and I have found recalls for 2020 Rangers made in the Michigan plant from February 28 to March18 of 2020 have been issued a recall but somehow my Ranger doesn't even though the VIN states it was made in March of 2020. All of the servicing has been done according to Ford's specifications.

The Ignition Coil and spark plug failed and caused the vehicle to misfire & lose power under load. The vehicle is available for inspection. Sudden loss of power could have caused a collision due to the vehicle suddenly slowing without warning in traffic conditions. Ford Motor company is aware of the problem and has a service bulletin describing how the lack of an engine cover allows water to get into the spark plug wells causing the failure to occur. Ford's fix is to install the engine cover and replace the damaged components. But will only do so under the standard warranty. Ford was notified of the problem with my vehicle while it was well within warranty. But because a dealer could not schedule an appointment until 9 days after the standard warranty expired, they have denied coverage. Dealership has inspected the components and confirmed problem is related to service bulletin. Check Engine light came on and was flashing when problem occurred. No prior warning or symptom until problem occurred.

The Forward-Looking Camera located in the Rear View Mirror Assembly on a 2020 Ford Ranger has failed, and the replacement part is currently unavailable. Per Ford personnel, at least 96 Ford vehicles (as of 10/26/2021) are awaiting the replacement cameras, and Ford Service Personnel at the local Ford Dealership have indicated that "they have replaced a lot of these cameras". When this camera malfunctions, the vehicle LOSES 100% of FIVE (5) of its key Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS): 1. Adaptive Cruise Control (there is NO cruise control whatsoever without this camera) 2. Forward Collision Warning 3. Automatic Emergency Braking 4. Lane Departure Warning 5. Lane Keeping Assistance This is a CRITICAL SAFETY ISSUE with the vehicle. The ONLY safety features that work are the Blind Spot Detection in the Side Mirrors, and the Front and Rear Parking Sensors -- the latter of which are useless in high-speed highway driving. My camera failed on or about August 21, 2021, and I am still waiting for an update on when the part will be available. The car can be operated without the ADAS system, but its safety is significantly and materially degraded. The replacement of the camera is a simple operation, but the parts are not available, and no one at Ford knows when they will become available. There are two (2) warning alarms which are audible and visible on the dash when the camera fails. Both can be "accepted" via the "OK" button on the steering wheel. Each time the car is started, both alarms activate shortly after the car warms up.

I bought the 4x4 Ford Ranger specifically to be towed behind my motor home and followed the directions on how to set up the Flat-tow feature that allows the Ranger to be towed behind my motorhome. I had traveled to a number of Good Same Rallys without any trouble with the Ranger. I use it also as my main vehicle at home to go to store, church etc. On my last trip to Branson, MO while coming home there was a noise that sounded like my brakes on the Ranger were locked up. I took my foot off the gas pedal and it stopped, I proceeded on home when it did this several times. Each time it would stop. I got home disconnected the Ranger and it started fine, I drove it almost 200 miles when I began to notice a jerking from the transmission and took it to my dealer. They proceeded to check it out and told me that the transmission and universal were bad and needed to be replaced at a 17k price. According to the computer readout my battery had failed 2 times. HOW CAN A BATTERY FAIL TWO TIME??? Apparently this caused my flat tow in nuetral tow to go into normal range and at that time made my truck act like it was in normal range, towing a dead truck. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED ME TO HAVE A BAD ACCIDENT, END UP IN A DITCH. The shop checked and the batter was low but ok. The computer on board did this to my truck and lied on the readout. Three (3) other Rangers had this happen to them and one blew up. I am sure other Ranger owners have had this happen to them too. This can cause a serious accident. I have filed a complaint to our attorney General in my state.

THE ADAPTIVE CURISE CONTROL DOES NOT WORK LIKE OTHER VEHICLES. WHEN THE CRUISE CONTROL IS ACTIVE IT KEEPS THE PROPER DISTANCE BETWEEN CARS UNTIL THE CAR IN FRONT SLOWS DOWN AND THEN WHEN THERE IS ABOUT TWO CAR LENGTHS IT RELEASES THE BRAKES MAKING YOU HAVE TO JAM ON THE BRAKES BEFORE HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT. MY OTHER VEHICLES STOP AND KEEP THE PROPER DISTANCE. FORD DEALER FIRST SAID THIS IS NOT THE WAY IT SHOULD WORK BUT AFTER TALKING TO FORD THEY SAY THATS THE WAY IT WORKS. The transmission has several issues, hard shifting, shuddering and shaking but the one issue I know is a safety issue is the lunging. Early model 2019-2020 Ford Rangers have a known defect where the blend door actuator fails. The assembly was redesigned mid 2020 and is now the common fix for all who are affected by this issue. During this failure the blend door cannot and will not actuate as it should causing in ability to defrost the windshield causing visibility issues. Additionally, it causes unbearable heat to be released inside the vehicle with no warning causing additional safety issues for drivers and passengers. The issue is widely observed for all owners of early generations. Even though ford has known about the issue that forced an entire redesign they are unwilling to recall the defective component. I have contacted their corporate office and was informed there is no support for this issue. Today, while driving the system on its own changed to defrost, half of the windshield could be seen through, the other half could not due to variations on both sides which also caused condensation to form.

I was in the driveway of my home. My family had entered and closed the front passenger door and opened the rear driver door. I opened and then closed the driver front door which caused the rear window with the glass sider to completely shatter. The vehicle had at the time 9,686 miles on it. It had no damage visible prior to this and there were no signs of any vandalism or other activity that would have caused this situation to occur. No vehicle alarm was activated either that would have indicated forced entry. In addition to our personal security system on our property providing no indication of such. This window should not have shattered. The cost to replace this window is $985 plus installation by a glass repair company. I contacted Ford Customer Care and was referred to a dealership service center to get the vehicle inspected, file a claim and then be referred to a glass shop. After contacting a couple of dealerships, was able to clear away glass to safely drive this vehicle to a third dealership to complete this process. Shattered, tempered glass from a rear window is difficult to clear and sharp. I then learned I was denied the claim of coverage under warranty because there are no other complaints regarding glass breakage. I am lodging this complaint with a relevant third party to ensure this is not true and if others have this issue of a defective window, they are not denied a true and substantial claim as I was. I will be attempting to use the coverage the dealership I bought the vehicle from to cover the cost of this repair. I don't believe this is an insurance claim. It is defective equipment from Ford on a new vehicle. It's a statement on how Ford backs the quality of their vehicles. I will be considering my vehicle purchases going forward.

Internal component failure of the 10R80 transmission. While driving one evening on a highway the vehicle while in cruise began bucking, surging and reduced gears. The vehicle began spraying transmission fluid on vehicles behind me and what was once a 10 speed transmission became a 7 speed transmission. Prior to failure there was zero indication of an issue. Nearly getting into an accident I had to make my way to the side of the road where there wasn’t much of a flat shoulder. Not only could my sudden decline in speed have caused an accident but the transmission fluid spraying on vehicles behind me could have reduced others visibility. Dealership near the incident area has confirmed internal failure which is extremely common for these transmissions. Vehicle is currently awaiting a replacement transmission.

THE WINDSHIELD AND REAR WINDOW ARE WAVEY, MAKING OBJECTS BLURRED. I'VE HAD THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER, THEY TELL ME THEY NEVER NOTICED IT BEFORE. I LOOKED AT THE 2021 RANGER PICKUPS AND THEY HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. THE LARGER PICKUPS DON'T HAVE THE PROBLEM. IT MAKES IT HARD TO READ SIGNS AND TRAFFIC.

Left rear leaf spring broke at the axel. When left the house truck was acting funny. Crossed a RR track and the truck became eratic/hard to steer. Pulled into shop across the street. They inspected the truck and found the broken spring. No rust, just a clean break.

On 04-07-2021 I was traveling West on Florida S.R. 60 / US 301; WHEN A CAR IN FRONT OF ME WAS STOPPING. I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND FAILED TO STOP IN TIME; HITTING THE REAR END OF THE AUTO IN FRONT OF ME. IT APPEARS TO ME THAT THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK CORRECTLY TO STOP. I FEEL (FELT) LIKE THE BRAKE PEDAL WHEN APPLIED FELT LIKE AIR IN THE BRAKE LINE SYSTEM. THE BRAKE PETAL ALMOST WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. THEIR WAS ONLY ABOUT 3130 MILES ON THE VEHICLE AT THE TIME OF THIS INVIDENT. I STILL FEEL THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES AND HAD THEM CHECKED BY THE DEALER ON 08-20-2021 WHERE THEY PERFORMED A BRAKE INSPECTION AND THE PADS AND ROTOR WERE MEASURED. UPON THE FILING OF THIS REPORT I STILL DO NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE NOR SAFE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE WITH THE BRAKE ISSUE. ALSO MY FRONT DRIVER AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. THE AUTO BODY MANAGER SAID WHEN I ASKED AS TO WHY; THAT THE SENSOR PERHAPS WAS NOT HIT STRAIGHT ON TO MAKE IT DEPLOY. I WILL FOLLW UP ON AN ADDITIONAL COMPLAINT ON THE AIR BAG ISSUE

When I engage the speed control on my vehicle, approximately 15 to 45 seconds afterwards, the system will temporarily disengage without warning, causing me to manually re engage the system. Sometimes it will re engage right away, and other times I need to press the resume button several times for it to re engage. There is no warning before the system dis engages.

While driving my 2020 Ford Ranger, the transmission has repeatedly exhibited unexpected and unintended gear changes, including sudden downshifts or gear changes without driver input, hesitation, and abrupt loss of power during acceleration. These problems have occurred during highway merging, pulling into traffic, and city driving. On 08/14/2026, while accelerating to pull into traffic, the vehicle suddenly lost power, creating a hazardous situation as vehicles approached from behind. I have also experienced instances in which the transmission unexpectedly shifted or hesitated without warning, causing the vehicle to lurch or slow unpredictably in traffic. This condition creates a serious safety hazard because an unexpected loss of power or unintended gear change can prevent the vehicle from accelerating when needed, such as when merging, passing, pulling into traffic, or avoiding a collision. The unpredictable behavior increases the risk of a crash and endangers both the driver and surrounding motorists. The vehicle was taken to Crossroads Ford of Indian Trail on 08/14/2026, where it was diagnosed with a failed or failing 10R80 automatic transmission. At the time, the vehicle had approximately 57,500 miles and was approximately 5 years and 7 months old, which is 7 months beyond the manufacturer's bumper-to-bumper warranty. I have maintained the vehicle according to Ford's recommended service schedule throughout my ownership. I am aware that Ford has issued prior service bulletins and customer satisfaction programs related to 10R80 transmission issues, including TSB 18-2274, 20-2339, 22-2139, 23-2250, and 24-2254, although I have not confirmed whether any of them directly apply to this VIN. I am filing this complaint because the symptoms I experienced—unexpected gear changes, hesitation, lurching, and sudden loss of power—present an immediate safety risk to me, my passengers, and other drivers on the road.

Driver seat belt will not automatically/fully return. I have brought the issue to the attention of Service Advisors at two different Ford dealership's. They acknowledge the problem but note there is no fix available from Ford. Aside from having to manually feed the belt back each time used a safety issue could exist if slack remains in the belt when driving.

I was traveling south on I-35 going up a long steep hill and my transmission started to hard shift and then I would lose power and when I would accelerate, I had no power it would just stall out so I merged to the right side in case I had to pull over because I thought the engine had died. When I reached my destination, I looked under my truck to discover fluid on the under carriage at that point I knew the transmission had blown a seal or a high-pressure hose. So, I left the truck there and the next day had it towed back to my house. There were times I had slowed down so much that traffic almost hit me.

The contact owns a 2020 Ford Ranger. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was able to restart; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with coolant intrusion into the engine, which caused a failure with the spark plugs. The contact was informed that the spark plugs needed to be replaced. Additionally, the contact was informed that an engine appearance shield needed to be installed over the engine. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

After 40K miles the vehicle's transmission began to fail to engage, become hesitant/delayed in shifting and acceleration, and hard downshifting. At one intersection the vehicle's engine had to be turned off and restarted for the transmission to begin engaging again. The dealership's diagnostics detected that the transmission valve body controller and cvf drum needed replaced. Took months for the parts to come in just because so many vehicle of the same type needed the same work.
