Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2018-2022 Transit Connect, 2019-2020 MKZ, MKX, Edge, Continental, F-150, Nautilus, Fusion, 2019-2023 Ranger, Mustang, 2020-2021 EcoSport, Expedition, Navigator, 2020-2022 Escape, F-250 SD, Corsair, 2020-2023 Aviator, Transit, 2020-2024 Explorer, 2021-2024 Bronco Sport, and 2022-2024 Maverick vehicles. A software error may cause the rearview camera to display a blank image, or the image may remain on the display after the backing event has ended.
Risk: A rearview camera that displays a blank image can reduce the driver's view behind the vehicle. A rearview image that continues to be displayed after the vehicle is shifted out of reverse may distract the driver. Both of these situations can increase the risk of a crash.
Fix: Dealers will update the rearview camera software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed September 4, 2025. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 25S72.
- BACK OVER PREVENTION: SENSING SYSTEM: CAMERACampaign 20V575000 · 23/09/2020
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2020 Ford F-150, F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550, Explorer, Mustang, Transit, Expedition, Escape, Ranger and Edge, and Lincoln Nautilus and Corsair vehicles. Due to a poor electrical connection, the rearview camera may intermittently display a blank or distorted image. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 111, "Rear Visibility."
Risk: Reduced rearward visibility can increase the risk of a crash.
Fix: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the rearview camera, free of charge. The recall began November 17, 2020. Remedy became available on February 1, 2021. Owner notification letters were mailed on February 1, 2021. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20C19.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2020-2021 Edge, 2020 Lincoln Nautilus and Ford Escape and 2021 Lincoln Corsair and Ford Bronco Sport vehicles. An inadequate amount of lubricant in the rear drive unit may cause seizure of the rear drive axle.
Risk: If the rear drive unit seizes, there may be a loss of drive and/or a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.
Fix: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will check the rear drive unit lubricant level. Axles found to have lubricant at the minimum level will be filled to the full level. Axles found to be below the minimum lubricant fill level will be replaced, free of charge. This recall began March 12, 2021. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Vehicle has never had a trailer attached ever and randomly while driving the vehicle said trailer connected and disabled all safety features while I was driving. Then while driving it would say trailer disconnected and shortly after the trailer connected message would pop buck up and start all over again. This all happened on 1 drive without shutting off the vehicle and happened roughly 10 times throughout my drive. Vehicle currently has 18755 miles on it. The trailer pin connector port has never been opened and I have owned this car since day one.

While our vehicle hasnt been in an accident yet, the issue could possibly lead into one. Our vehicle is having transmission problems. Ford knows there is an issue with the trans. I have called them an spoke to someone but i forget his name. The issue is the computer needs flashed and updated with new shifting points. At low speeds or if your barely on the gas, the trans bucks, sputters and has issues driving smooth. Our vehicle only has 85k miles on it, the issue started about 5k miles ago. I have asked the people of reddit on the issue. Many people responded saying they have gotten theres fixed or the trans goes out. Seems like its a very expensive (to me) fix and i feel as though that since it is a known issue that Ford should be the one paying to flash and update shift points on there products. Its bad enough we pay an avg of 600 a month for our vehicles. Now why cant they make it rite and fix a known issue. I dont know if you guys can help push the issue and see about getting this taken care of. All help is appreciated.

While driving my family home, our 2020 Ford Edge displayed sudden overheating. White smoke with a sweet smell was coming from the tailpipe. Looking under the hood afterwards I could verify the coolant reservoir was empty. I refilled it with the recommended fluid and amount, drove it around the block, only for the same thing to happen again. Upon taking it to my local Ford dealership, they have confirmed the ERG cooler has failed and requires replacing, per TSB 20-2234.

The transmission failed abruptly, without any notice or warnings. I had to have it towed to a service shop. When I first tried to drive the vehicle, I was too nervous because the vehicle would not shift so I chose not to drive it for safety reasons. I first towed the vehicle to a shop near my house that concluded I needed a new transmission but they did not repair transmissions. I then had it towed to a transmission shop. Both shops concluded black, metal in the transmission. The manufacturer, the police or the insurance have not been involved. The vehicle provided no warning lamps or symptoms prior to the day the transmission failed in November 2025. My vehicle is only 5 years old and I have had it serviced every 6,000 miles at a Ford dealership. At no time did Ford tell my my transmission fluid was black or needed to be changed. In fact, they continued to tell me that the vehicle was running well. Upon investigation, it appears that the 2020 Ford Edge, 8 speed transmission has experienced the same issue. I also have a 2015 Ford Edge, 6 speed transmission, and I have never had an issue with metal in the transmission. I had to spend just shy of $10,000 to have my transmission, in a 5 year old vehicle replaced.

At around 47,000 miles (April 27, 2024) my car would not move when I put it in reverse to leave my house that day, the engine would just rev and it would not get into the reverse gear. Then warning light came on for the power train so I called the dealership and had it towed to their service department. They said they had to completely rebuild my transmission and it took them almost a month to complete the repairs. (May 6th, while the car was at the dealership , I received several engine warnings from my Ford app. I got my car back from the dealership about 2 weeks later) But immediately after getting my car back from the dealership there were still issues; it’s slips gears , especially from drive to first gear and first gear to second gear and the engine will rev for a while and then the entire vehicle jerks when it finally catches the next gear, also it doesn’t have enough power for steep inclines , it will just roll backwards while the engine is raving trying to climb the hill. This happened intermittently after the transmission rebuild but has since progressed to be an everyday issue. And I’ve sent it back to the dealership several times over the last year for them to fix it but it never gets fixed. They keep telling me they did a software update and that should fix the issue, but it doesn’t. It’s at the dealership again right now because it has gotten so bad that I can’t even drive the car. You start the car, put it in drive and it just revs and won’t even catch first gear. It now has around 60,000 miles. I’m the only owner of the vehicle and I take excellent care of my vehicles. I just want my vehicle to be drivable and a vehicle that is worth the price that I paid for it. I paid for a brand new vehicle, but what I got is a piece of crap. And not drivable.

Ford designed the vehicle with soy based insulation on the wires in the wiring harness, this attracts rodents which eat away at the wiring harness. Ford is aware of this but refuses to compensate or repair the damage. When the harness is compromised the tail lights, passenger airbag, passenger seatbelt and cross traffic warning indicators do not work. This presents multiple safety issues. The vehicle has been diagnosed by ford stating the damage was caused by rodents entering the passenger compartment through the outside vent of the heating system. My vehicle has been repaired three times for the same issue. Ford has refused to warrantee any damage and has tld me to turn it in to my insurance which I had done. this has caused my insurance premium to increase due to the claim. I have all the documentation from the occurrences and the transcript of my conversation with Ford customer service. I want at minimum the vehicle fixed or replaced at Fords expense. Previously Ford had spoken with my insurance company and told them the harness needed to be spliced, they did not replace the entire harness this caused the rodents to return and damage more of the harness..

I got this vehicle to help me build my credit and now it's hurting my credit because I can't keep up with the car payments from all the major repairs that I have had to do on a 2020 vehicle. Having torque converter replaced in my 2020 with 37,000 miles on it. Transmission stutters/lags at speeds under 40. Seems to be a common issue so wanted to report. Luckily had warranty replacement. Definitely a safety concern as the car delays when you hit the gas before it goes, many times i was nearly in an accident.
- 11/11/2023· POWER TRAIN
The torque converter is failing and in one incident failed to provide power when accelerating. This created a safety risk as I was nearly rear ended when merging into a highway and lost the ability to accelerate. The torque converter has deteriorated and now caused the need to replace the transmission as well. I took the vehicle to a FORD dealer and they confirmed the torque converer has failed. They did not further inspect the transmission at that time. I have now taken it to an independant repair center and they inspected the transmission as well and found black transmission fluid due to metal shaving from the torque converter. This vehicle is 400 miles out of warranty and purchased as a certified pre owned from a ford dealer May 2023. Our mechanic has mentioned that this is a known issue for this vehicle. Up until this incedent there was no warning of any problems. I had noticed the car was shifting weird and shuddering slightly. When I discussed this with the local ford dealer, they explained that it was supposed to shift like that due to the type of transmission it had. Since then the car is barely drivable - scheduled for repair by my independent repair center 11/20.

I had this car serviced at the Ford dealership where I purchased it shortly before the warrenty ran out just to catch anything before it was not covered. Car was running well when I took it in. Copy of Invoice provided. Shortly after this visit I began to notice these symptoms not extreme at first. After a short it became quite noticeable the shuddering acting like it did not shift smoothly, going up hill was very noticeable mostly at lower speeds. I made an appointment with my local Ford dealer to have this diagnosed . They did spark plug replacement and that didn't help. They then said the next thing would be the Torque converter! We currently are unable to drive this car out of our town, until it is fixed, We are unable to trust its reliability. We had to wait for parts for a month because so many people are having to have these replaced that these parts are always out of stock ! We are extremely disappointed in FORD we WERE quite happy with this car. They need to be held accountable for these repairs people all over the internet are reporting the same thing!

Rear Drive Unit/Differential has failed. This is the second time in 4 years that it has failed leading to drivetrain issues to the rear wheels. I'm not sure how significant an incident would be if the Rear Power Transfer Unit fails while drive at highway speeds. Ford has released Technical Service Bulletins for the problem, so they are aware that there is an ongoing issue. Yet is is the owners responsibility to make the repairs. I have attached a copy of the receipt from the first repair. The vehicle is currently at the same dealership for the same issue. This time, the dealer claims I need to replace the entire Rear Drive Unit at my expense.

The parts involved were lug nuts. I had a flat tire and was unable to remove/replace the flat because the lug wrench supplied with the car would not fit the nuts. Fortunately I had other tools available that I was able to use to remove the lug nuts otherwise I would have been stranded. When I went to a Ford service center I was informed that the lug nuts were swollen. They told me that this was a well known issue with Ford and that the lug nuts would have to be replaced. The cost to replace these lug nuts was over $200. Attached fine pictures of the lug nuts and receipt for work done. All the lug nuts were damaged by the service center in their efforts to remove them. The pictures attached are of the worst damage.

With no warning signs, I put my 2020 Ford Edge into Drive, but it didn't move; so, I put it into Reverse and it wouldn't move. After a minute, I was able to drive it. The next day, I was able to drive it ~1/4 mile when this sandy, gritty noise happened and the Wrench light came up on the dashboard. I pulled over, then the Check Engine Light came on, so I turned off the car. I turned it back on, and when I put it in Drive, it didn't move, so I put it in Reverse and it didn't move. I had the car towed to a Ford Dealer, who after diagnosis, told me the transmission needed to be repaired @ $8600. My car had 136,000 miles on it when this happened; I always maintained it, including a tune up, with full fluid flush, per the recommended maintenance @ 100,000 miles. I was told by the mechanic that the planetary broke up and went through the entire system, ruining it.

Power Train has failed multiple times on this vehicle. It loses power on the highway, reverses when in drive, and does not shift down to make the vehicle slow to a safe speed. This puts me and others in danger because you can not predict that or when there will be a failure that hits a person or other car. This has been taken to a mechanic and confirmed as power train failure in a 4 year old, 100K mile car. Ford claims no recalls even though the same recall exists for other makes and models of the same kind with different VINS. Has thrown multiple codes.

On 10/22/2022 while driving on a highway at the posted speed limit, without warning the Panorama Sun Roof exploded showering shards of glass on Myself and My Wife. The glass sunroof was properly closed but the inside headliner panel was open to enjoy the sun. The moderate average temperature outside at this time was approximately 68 degrees. This vehicle currently has approximately 12,250 miles on it. When the sunroof suddenly exploded, my wife sustained cuts to her hand and both of us were covered in shredded glass, including tiny glass shards embedded in our scalps. The explosion was so sudden and loud I nearly lost control of the vehicle. Fortunately, there was minimal traffic on the road at the time of the explosion with no vehicles immediately in front of us. Research has revealed many incidents of exploding sunroofs on various Ford models, with an exceptionally high incident rate for the Ford Edge model. It was further discovered that this exploding sunroof issue in various Ford models has been ongoing since 2008 with the Ford Motor Company being made aware of this defect. Research has further indicated to date, Ford has failed to issue a recall for this serious and dangerous defect. If our grandchildren had been rear seat passengers (which is often the case), this incident could have been tragically much worse. Not only did the exploding sunroof cause a serious, dangerous and injurious safety threat to us as passengers, getting the vehicle off the road (with the interior headliner panel closed) caused a safety threat to any nearby drivers as we could hear and see the remaining shattered glass flying off the vehicle into the roadway.

These transmissions fail prematurely. I have experienced major slippage on the highway, particularly when changing lanes in traffic or merging and needing to accelerate quickly. Most of the time it does, but occasionally the car just doesn't move with faster traffic quickly closing the gap. It is VERY scary when this happens, and there have been near misses! In another instance, the car would not go into reverse and ACTUALLY TRIED TO MOVE FORWARD WHILE IN REVERSE!!! I have found posts on forums where others have experienced this issue as well. Ford needs to be forced to issue a safety recall on these cars to have their transmissions repaired.

In February 2025 a dash light came on when the vehicle was studdering at 20-40 mph. Firestone said the code was a PRV, so they replaced it (approx $450), had 80k miles. Six months later it's doing the same thing and firestone said it has no codes and it could be alot of things but suspects maybe fuel pump or torque converter as they have seen it alot on the 2020 edge. A week later, I took to another mechanic when a different noise was coming during turns, and they said it was the rear differential for sure and the studdering could be several things. Thye replaced the real differential, $2500, and I replaced the plugs/egition coils which they suggested could be causing it. They also mentioned the torque converter as being a big issue in premature failing for the 2020 edge. The new real differential stopped the turning grind, and the new plugs/coils may be making it run a little better, BUT the studder is still here. A 90k mile vehicle should not be having these major safety issues! Torque converter, says transmission to me, so please investigate. I called a ford dealer because I bought the platinum extra warranty and it was expired. I asked about trade in and they said $6500 because they know the vehicle is a lemon--I still owe $23K!! Feeling stuck and worried about driving on the interstate or at speed anywhere too far from home as it could lock up and create an accident. I feel the industry knows about these failures and Ford does too and should do something.

I own a 2020 Ford Edge 2.0 Platinum AWD (VIN: [XXX] ). At just over 50,000 miles, the vehicle developed a noticeable shutter in the front area, which was diagnosed as a faulty torque converter in the transmission. This required replacement at a reduced cost of $1,350. Shortly after, around 52,000 miles, the vehicle developed a loud grinding noise in the rear differential area. Initially, the differential lock motor was replaced for $675, but this did not fully resolve the issue. Ultimately, the entire rear differential had to be replaced at a reduced cost of approximately $2,750, including fluids and recalibration. Ford acknowledges that there are known issues with the AWD systems in Ford Edge vehicles, yet refuses to take responsibility or offer assistance. It is unacceptable that a 5-year-old vehicle with only 52,000 miles would require thousands of dollars in repairs to remain safe and drivable. These failures pose a serious safety concern and financial burden, and I urge NHTSA to investigate this recurring issue. Problem with car jerking when driving went to dealership and still having the problem He said that it was internal and nothing else he can do he said he changed parts paying a $725 note a month while it sits can't drive it . scare to put on the road don't want it to break down I also end up paying out of pocket. The car was purchased through Enterprise Car Sales payment is going to Santander Consumer USA payments are always paid in advance of a week and a half.
- 10/10/2024· FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
The Forward Collision Warning system became inoperative because of a failed electronic module. The dealership indicated that the self test ipma code u3009-49 test diagnostic called for the ipma replacement and programing. The failure of this component endangers pedestrians, other vehicles and passengers by failing to stop the vehicle when an imminent collision is about to occur. Given the 63,000 kilometres of this vehicle when the module failed, its expected life of 250,000 kilometres, the cost of replacing this component during its life, at more than 20% of the purchase price of the vehicle, is ridiculously high.

- 10/07/2025· POWER TRAIN
Edge is shuttering on slow takeoff. Dealership said it needs a new torque convertor to fix the problem. Parts and labor 2300.00 and then that might not fix the problem. This is why I purchased a Ford cause I wanted a quality vehicle. Have had nothing but ford's in the past. A recall needs to be done on these vehicles. A 5 year old edge shouldn't need this. I had a mustang that had over 250 thousand miles on it and it is still going. Please let me know if a recall is being done on this. This is a Ford titanium. Thanks
