The windshield cracked with no obvious damage. The crack did not start at a chip. Cracked while not driving and no recent rock hits.
- 12/31/2021· ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,STRUCTURE
Rear lift-gate (power tailgate hatch) emits an audible constant tone, and will not open. The car can be in park, off, or driving and will not stop the audible tone and the lift gate remains locked closed. You can not unlock the lift-gate by using the door mounted unlock, the rear lift-gate button or by key fob. No matter what the lift-gate will remain in a locked and fixed state. The only (temporary) fix is to manually disconnect the battery terminals and "reset" the car. No warning lights are displayed, dealership is unable to "find" a trouble code or fix. This is an ongoing problem, occurring with intermittent frequency. This is certainly a safety issue, as a rear occupant can be trapped in case of an emergency.
- 12/29/2022· UNKNOWN OR OTHER
Since owning this vehicle, there have been three separate incidents where the windshield has failed after a small rock has struck it while driving on the highway. The first incident caused a significant chip causing a repair. The second incident was a crack that required total replacement and recalibration. The third incident caused another crack that will require another complete replacement and recalibration.

My Subaru Ascent 2019 is 2.5 years old. The windshield has developed a crack on its own on a long drive. The crack first appeared at the bottom of windshield near front passenger seat, and has started spreading sideways towards driver side in a zig-zag fashion. It's about 10 inches long now. I called Subaru service center and informed them about the crack. The service center said one of their managers will call me to discuss. I'm waiting for the call. I had a similar random crack appear on the sunroof 6 months after purchasing the car. It also appeared on a long drive. Subaru inspected and initially refused to cover the sunroof under warranty. They later came around and replaced the sunroof on their own and without charge to me.

2019 Subaru Ascent purchased new. Auto has about 25,000 miles on it now. When driving at highway speeds the hood vibrates and shakes especially when there is a crosswind. This will damage the latch and cause the hood to fly open when driving at this speed which cold be dangerous. Called two Subaru dealers and they say that is normal. I have owned several cars and this is not normal.
- 12/28/2021· POWER TRAIN
2019 Subaru Ascent purchased new. The car only has about 25,000 miles on it now. I have had several incidents when driving on a curved road about 30 miles an hour the transmission jerks and causes the whole car to shudder abruptly sevral times in a row. Also when backing up and I completely stop the car before putting into drve, it jerks and makes a load noise. I have had the car into the Subaru dealer several times for these drivetrain problems and they say they never made a repair. They say they drove it and did not find the problem. They should have taken the transmission cover off and inpected the transmision chain and componnts. There was a prwvious transmission recall and now another one. Since the dealr allowed this problem to continue the transmission probably has mechanical damge.

CRACK IN WINDSHIELD APPEARED W/OUT USUAL SOUND OR SIGN OF DEBRIS. DEALER SAID IT COULD NOT BE REPAIRED, ONLY REPLACED & ALL SYSTEMS RECALIBRATED AT OWNER'S EXPENSE. I HAVE DRIVEN OVER 1 MILLION MILES & HAVE NEVER SEEN A CRACK W/ NO DEBRIS OR IF ANY, SO SMALL IT MADE NO IMPACT. JUST A CRACK APPEARED LIKE IT WAS PRESSURE ON THE GLASS CAUSING THE CRACK.

THE ENGINE KEEPS STUTTERING WHEN DRIVING AND SLOWING DOWN TO STOP AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT. COUPLE OF TIMES, IT SHOULD SHUT DOWN AND I HAVE TO RESTART THE CAR. I DO ENSURE THE CAR IS WARMED UP TO A MINIMUM OF 7-10 MINUTES BEFORE STARTING. IT ONLY STARTED RECENTLY BUT I AM WORRIED THAT THIS WILL HAPPEN MORE AND SUDDENLY STOP WHEN DRIVING AND ME GETTING INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT.

Sunday, car wouldn’t start. Even though lights and display came on, engine wouldn’t turn over until I got a jump. After car started, center console went black and all infotainment, Bluetooth and rear view camera ceased to work. Drove hour and a half on highway. Monday morning, battery completely dead. Had to jump again. Now, center screen working, but seems to be battery issue. We had similar car starting problems before and replaced battery less than a year ago February 2021!!!

Steering is so sensitive that it exhausted driver. Lane control is exhausting. Transmission looses power, but mechanics say nothing registering. The car smokes on cold start and white exhaust smells terrible. This is worse in summer when transmission is hot. Hatch can’t be left open when camping because it ran my battery dead. There is no lighting at the back of car and front interior lights, LED, time out.

DEAD BATTERY MULTIPLE TIMES, DEALER SHIP HAS REPLACED THE BATTERY BUT CONTINUES TO HAVE ISSUES AND LEFT STRANDED EACH TIME THIS OCCURS, ONE TIME ON 12-17-2020 IN THE MOUNTAINS IN FREEZING COLD WEATHER WITH A CHILD, NO HEAT BECAUSE OF DEAD BATTERY. THIS ISSUE CANN OCCURING WHEN THE BACK TAILGATE IS OPEN FOR 10 MINUTES. SUBARU IS NOT GOING TO LOOK INTO THE PROBLEM EVEN THOU THEY ARE AWARE OF THIS OCCURING ON SUBARU OUTBACKS AND THE ASCENT MODELS. THIS IS A REAL SAFETY CONCERN SINCE MY WIFE DRIVES THIS CAR MAINLY AND HAS HAD TO CALL FOR HELP TO GET THE CAR STARTED. I WILL BE BRINGING IT BACK TO THE DEALER ONCE AGAIN. THEY WILL END UP REPLACING THE BATTERY AGAIN BUT THE FACT THAT IF YOUR CAR IS TURNED OFF AND DOORS ARE OPEN FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME THE DRAW COMING OFF THE BATTERY IS NOT ENOUGH TO START THE CAR AGAIN LEAVING YOU ONCE AGAIN STRANDED.
- 12/17/2024· ENGINE
The Y pipe that connects the exhaust from the engine to the turbo charger, has cracks from poor welds. It happened 8-12 months ago we started to notice that during warm up our Ascent would sound real loud then quiet down once it warmed up. We didn’t know there was an issue as there were no lights that came on and we had no loss of power or MPG. The safety issue would be that we finally took the car in once we started to smell exhaust fumes coming from the car that we would start to smell from inside the car. We had to start to air out the car after warming up if we couldn’t immediately drive away once started. We contacted Subaru and they offered a partial credit for a repair but after researching I have seen they have had recalls in the past regarding similar cracked Exhaust manifolds on another model car.

I CHARGED THE BATTERY, THEN STARTED THE CAR AND LEFT IT RUNNING IN THE DRIVEWAY, WHEN I CAME OUT OF THE HOUSE, THE ENGINE OF THE CAR WAS ON FIRE. I CALLED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT TO PUT THE FIRE. THE FIRE MARSHAL DETERMINED THAT AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE IGNITED THE ENGINE. AFTER POSTING THE PHOTOS OF THE FIRE ON FACEBOOK, WE RECEIVED MULTIPLE COMMENTS THAT OTHER PEOPLE'S SUBARU'S HAVE HAD BATTERY/ELECTRICAL ISSUES. THE COLLISION AVOIDANCE SYSTEM IS INCORRECTLY IDENTIFYING PARKED CARS OR CARS EXITING THE FREEWAY IN AN ADJACENT LANE AS OBSTACLES AND SLAMS ON THE BRAKES. THIS IS HAPPENED ON THE INTERSTATE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND AT SPEEDS AS LOW AS 30 MPH WHILE TRAVELING ON A CITY STREET. I'M TERRIFIED THAT I AM GOING TO BE REAR ENDED WHEN MY VEHICLE GOES FROM 70 TO ZERO MPH WHEN THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING IN FRONT OF ME BUT THE 'SAFETY EQUIPMENT' IS MALFUNCTIONING. I HAVE BEEN TELLING THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT IT FOR SEVERAL MONTHS WITH MINIMAL RESPONSE.

TOOK CAR TO SUBARU DEALER WHERE THEY TOLD ME THE ROTORS WOULD NEED TO,BE CUT! ON A NEW CAR WITH UNDER 900 MILES! TOOK IT HOME AND THE NOISE WAS LESS BUT GREW LOUDER AS THE WEEK WENT ON. BROUGHT THE CAR BACK TO SUBARU AND THEY INDICATED THEY WOULD REPLACE THE ROTORS AND THE BRAKE PADS. OF COURSE, THEY DIDN'T MENTION IT WOULD TAKE OVER A WEEK AND A HALF TO GET THE PARTS. NOISE WAS WHEN BRAKING WHETHER STATIONARY OR MOVING. ANOTHER ISSUE IS WHEN MY CELL PHONE RINGS, THE RADIO STARTS BLASTING! I ALMOST RAN OFF THE ROAD. THIS HAPPENED TWICE AND THE DEALERSHIP CAN'T SEEM TO REPLICATE THE ISSUE. THEY TOLD ME THEY HAD NOT HAD TO RESOLVE BOTH THE BRAKES AND RADIO ISSUE WITH ANYONE ELSE IN THEIR DEALERSHIP. I FIND THIS HARD TO BELIEVE, UNLESS THEY DID NOT SELL MANY ASCENTS. I AM ALSO WORRIED ABOUT THE ELECTRICAL AND TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS I KEEP HEARING PEOPLE COMPLAIN ABOUT.

ON 4 OCCASSIONS THE LIFTGATE OF THIS SUV WAS LEFT UP FOR 45 MINUTES TO 1.5 HOURS WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND STATIONARY. ON EACH TIME THE BATTERY DISCHARGED TO A POINT THE CAR WOULD NOT START. FORTUNATELY WE HAD CELL SERVICE AND COULD SUMMOND HELP, BUT THIS COULD OCCUR WHERE THERE IS NO CELL SERVICE AND LEAVE US COMPLETELY STRANDED. AFTER THE FIRST 3 TIMNES WHICH HAPPENED IN RAPID SUCCESSION I TOOK THE SUBARU ASCENT TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THE BATTERY HAD A WEAK CELL AND THEY REPLACED IT WITHOUT CHARGE. THE REPAIR INVOICE IS ATTACHED. BUT THEY NEVER TOLD ME THAT LEAVING THE LIFTGATE UP MORE THAN 30 MINUTES WOULD CAUSE THIS PROBLEM AND LEAVE ME STRANDED. THEN WHEN THE PROBLE OCCURRED AGAIN I WENT ONLINE AND DISCOVERED THIS IS A WIDELY-KNOWN DEFECT IN THE SUBARU ASCENT AND OTHER SUBARU MODELS THAT HAS STRANDED THOUSANDS OF OWNERS. OWNERS TAKE THEIR SUVS ON CAMPING OR FISHING TRIPS AND TAILGATING AT EVENTS WHERE THEY LEAVE THE LIFTGATE UP WITHOUT REALIZING THE CAR IS UNLIKELY TO START WHEN THEY WANT TO LEAVE. BUT SUBARU IS REFUSING TO CONSIDER A FIX AND RECALL THESE SUVS. I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF ANOTHER VEHICLE WITH THIS DEFECT OR PROBLEM. MANY OWNERS ARE SPENDING $250 OR MORE FOR AFTER-MARKET BATTERIES THAT ARE MUCH STRONGER THAN THE WEAK BATTERIES THAT SUBARU PROVIDES. WHILE THIS DOES NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM AND SUCH OWNERS CAN STILL BE STRANDED, AT LEAST WITH A STRONGER BATTERY THE CHANCES IT WILL START ARE MUCH BETTER. SUPPOSEDLY THERE IS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT FILED IN NEW JERSEY AGAINST SUBARU OVER THIS ISSUE, BUT THAT WILL ONLY REWARD THE ATTORNEYS INVOLVED WITH MILLIONS OF DOLLARS AND PROBABLY NET ME $20 IN 5 YEARS. PLEASE CONSIDER FORCING SUBARU TO FIND A SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM AND RECALL AND FIX ALL SUBARU ASCENTS STILL ON THE ROAD.

We have had to replace battery twice and had to have auto club give us a jump start multiple times. We drive this vehicle once or twice a month, but something is causing battery to run down way to fast. Manufacturer claims we need to drive more often. I have always had one car, that burned to much fuel, and was used as an occasional vehicle, but never had this type of problem. Something needs to be provided so that battery does not leak power when it is a low use car. I don’t want the internal lights to turn on when I walk by, or for it to access the internet. I believe that this leaves us vulnerable to non-availability at a critical time. We are planning a multi-week trip and have no idea if car will start when we return. Nor is their a way to disconnect unneeded activity that is draining battery.

MY WINDSHIELD HAS BEEN IMPACTED BY OBJECTS FROM THE ROADWAY TWICE AND HAS HAD TO BE REPLACED EACH TIME. THE FIRST INCIDENT WAS IN APRIL 2019, WHEN A CHUNK OF ICE FLEW OFF A VEHICLE AHEAD OF MINE AND NEARLY SHATTERED THE ENTIRE WINDSHIELD. THIS WINDSHIELD WAS REPLACED. THE REPLACEMENT WINDSHIELD WAS IMPACTED BY A SMALL ROAD ROCK WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE IN DECEMBER 2020, RESULTING IN A GOLF BALL-SIZED PUNCTURE DOWN TO THE ADHESIVE SHEET. EVEN THE SAFELITE TECH REMARKED AT THE LEVEL OF DAMAGE AND WAS UNABLE TO SALVAGE THE WINDSHIELD. I HAVE NEVER SEEN A ROAD ROCK CAUSE THAT MUCH DAMAGE TO A WINDSHIELD, AND I DON'T THINK THERE'S EVER BEEN A VEHICLE I'VE OWNED THAT HASN'T TAKEN A ROCK AT ONE POINT OR ANOTHER. IT'S UNAVOIDABLE. Over the past few months the transmission has started randomly refusing to engage. When entering the expressway, you will press the accelerator, and the engine will rev and the vehicle will not accelerate at all. Then you let off the accelerator, let the engine RPM drop back down to idle, and press again and it will accelerate. This has happened 3 times in 2 months. Subaru is refusing to replace the transmission because their tech cannot personally reproduce the problem on demand, even though they have voluntarily extended the warranty on this model transmission due to slippage issues. They are instead going to change the transmission fluid, which has less than 1/2 the mileage for a typical fluid service, to mask the issue, risking the safety of passengers.

The windshield has cracked twice with very small cracks. The second time was within three weeks of having it replaced at the dealer by a 3rd party since the dealer didn’t handle that repair. On this second occasion, I neither saw or heard a rock or chip hit the windshield and yet after a cold night and parking in the garage I came back the next morning and it was there. The second crack doesn’t appear to be from any rock as it is very small and almost at the base where the new windshield was installed — but the dealer is saying they think Subaru may say it is coming from a small mark and then spidered out. I can’t even see how a rock could go ata downward angle to hit down in this area below where the wiper blades rest. I went on the website and there are many many complaints about this new vehicle’s windshield cracking - both from very small objects and on its own. I already had a transmission replaced on warranty and several other problems- as mine was the first 2019 Ascent sold in Columbia, MO. In short, these windshields have been the subject of a class action and they are defective and unsafe.

WE WERE DRIVING AND HAD A VERY SMALL ROCK CHIP IN THE WINDOW. WITHIN THE NEXT 30 MINUTES THE WINDSHIELD HAD CRACKED THE ENTIRE FROM THE TOP SIDE OF THE CRACK ALL THE WAY TO THE SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD AND CRACKED ON THE BOTTOM ALL THE WAY TO THE BOTTOM SIDE OF THE WINDOW. SO WHAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN AN EASY ROCK CHIP REPAIR QUICKLY CHANGED TO NEEDING THE WHOLE WINDSHIELD REPLACED AT ALMOST $1,000. THE CHIP OCCURRED WHILE WE WERE GOING ABOUT 30 MILES AN HOUR JUST GETTING ON THE ON RAMP TO I-55 AT MM 100 IN SPRINGFIELD IL.

WE BOUGHT A USED 2019 SUBARU ASCENT TOURING (CA. 18,000 MILES) IN JULY OF THIS YEAR. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE BATTERY WHEN WE BOUGHT IT. SINCE THEN, THIS NEW BATTERY HAS DIED FIVE TIMES ON US, THE FIRST TIME ON SEPTEMBER 4 2020 AND MOST RECENTLY ON NOVEMBER 28. IT HAS ALWAYS DIED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY. AFTER IT DIED THE THIRD TIME ON NOVEMBER 22, WE BROUGHT IT INTO THE LOCAL SUBARU DEALERSHIP. THEY HELD THE CAR FOR TWO NIGHTS AND WERE UNABLE FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. IT IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN.

TRAVELING ON HIGHWAY AT 70 MPH WHEN A DEER JUMPED IN FRONT OF OUR CAR AND WE HIT IT WITH THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE CRUSHING THE FRONT END. ALL AIR BAGS IMMEDIATELY DEPLOYED AND THE FRONT END BEGAN SMOKING PROFUSELY. WITHIN MINUTES OF GETTING OUT OF THE VEHICLE IT BURST INTO FLAMES AND THE ENTIRE VEHICLE BURNED UP. CONCERNED THAT THESE VEHICLES WILL BURST INTO FLAMES DURING A FRONT END COLLISION AT HIGH SPEEDS.
