- 12/31/2023· POWER TRAIN
On December 30, 2023, my 2019 Ram 1500 Laramie edition suddenly and unexpectedly popped out of gear into neutral while driving approx. 35 mph. The vehicle engine was on, however, no power was being applied to the drive train as the vehicle was in Neutral. The engine revved fine, just no power to the drive train. The gear selector flashed “D” and a message appeared on the center console information center instructing me to shift into Park. I had to stop the truck in traffic, shift to Park, then back into Drive to get the truck moving again. This was a very serious and potentially dangerous situation requiring me to stop on the roadway before I could effectuate shifting into Park and then back to Drive to get the truck moving again. I contacted the Ram dealer that same day and was able to obtain an appointment for the truck on Jan. 2, 2024 for an inspection and repairs due to this very serious and potentially life-threatening matter. Respectfully submitted, [XXX] [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Instrument cluster comes on and off whenever it wants, leaves me in the dark without it while driving. Dealer states there’s nothing they can do except replace screen. This started after I had my truck serviced at a dealership and the dealer stated it was like this when they got it. Everything worked great until I had it serviced. Now it’s just dangerous to not have a dash that works.

AS WITH AN OVERWHELMING AMOUNT OF OTHER RAM TRUCKS, MY REAR SLIDING WINDOW FRAME HAS CRACKED. THIS CAUSES WATER TO LEAK IN THROUGH THE CRACK WHEN IT RAINS. THE WATER LEAKING IN CAN DAMAGE THE HEADLINER AND COULD CAUSE AN ELECTRICAL SHORT IN THE REAR OF THE TRUCK. AN UPDATED WINDOW WITH A METAL FRAME WOULD BE MUCH BETTER THAN THE OEM ONE AND PROBABLY FIX THE ISSUE EVERYONE IS HAVING.

REAR WINDOW HAS BEGAN TO CRACK FROM THE INSIDE AND A LOT OF WATER COMES IN TO THE REAR. MY SEATS GET WET AND ALSO THE CARPET OF THE TRUCK. STARTING TO SMELL AND MIGHT HAVE MOLD. THE HEADLINER ALSO GETS WATER. MY CONCERN IS THAT IT MAY BUILD UP MOLD THROUGHOUT TIME. FCA IS UNWILLING TO REPLACE THE WINDOW OUTSIDE OF THE BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY EVEN THOUGH THIS IS A MAJOR ISSUE FOR THE 5TH GENERATION RAM AND THERE ARE MANY OTHERS THAT HAVE COME ACROSS THIS ISSUE. THEY HAVE ALSO KNOWLEDGE OF THIS AND HAVE SENT OUT A LETTER TO THEIR SERVICE TEAMS (SEE PICTURE). THE WATER CAN COME IN WHEN LEFT OUTSIDE DURING A RAIN STORM OR SIMPLY GOING THRU THE CAR WASH. ANY WATER THAT HITS THE ROOF OF THE TRUCK AND GOES TO THE BACK WILL EVENTUALLY MAKE IT THROUGH THE REAR WINDOW CRACK AND INSIDE THE TRUCK.

WATER (RAIN,CAR WASH, ETC) IS LEAKING THROUGH THE REAR POWER SLIDING WINDOW AND INTO THE VEHICLE AND DAMAGING THE INTERIOR (HEADLINER, SEATS). THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE BY RAM/FCA AND THEY HAVE NOT RECALLED THEM YET. THIS CAN BE A SAFETY ISSUE WHEN DRIVING. I'M ALSO CONCERNED THAT IF WATER SITS INSIDE OF THE LINER CAN IT CAUSE MOLD TO FORM? THE VEHICLE INITIALLY HAD A REPORTED STEERING FAILURE TWICE ON DECEMBER 19TH. THIS WAS REPORTED TO NHTSA UNDER FILE 1162423. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER THE SAME DAY. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE WHY THIS OCCURRED. THEN, AGAIN ON DECEMBER 30TH THIS OCCURRED AGAIN AT HIGHWAY SPEED, ALMOST CAUSING A COLLISION. IMMEDIATELY CONTACTED THE DEALER AGAIN AND THE DEALER WAS CONCERNED OVER SAFETY ISSUE AND OFFERED A RENTAL VEHICLE WHILE INSPECTING THE VEHICLE. ON THE WAY TO THE DEALER THIS MORNING, THE POWER STEERING TURN OFF AND AGAIN THE MESSAGE CENTER DISPLAYED IN RED " POWER STEERING UNAVAILABLE SERVICE REQUIRED".. THIS WAS DISPLAYED ON THE PRIOR OCCASIONS.... WHILE DRIVING SLOWLY TO THE DEALER THIS LOSS OF STEERING OCCURRED ANOTHER 3 TIMES INTERMITTENTLY WITH ANOTHER WARNING "SERVICE AIR SUSPENSION IMMEDITALEY".... KEEP IN MIND THAT WHEN THE POWER STEERING LEAVES WITH ELECTRONIC STEERING VERY LITTLE CONTROL REMAINS. SINCE THIS HAS BEEN REPORTED TO THE DEALERS AND ALSO TO NHTSA NUMEROUS TIMES FROM VARIOUS GEOGRAPHIC AREAS SINCE AUGUST 2018 I AM SURPRISED THAT A RECALL HAS NOT BEEN ISSUED AND OR A REMEDY THROUGH THE DEALERS.

Rear window structure frame cracks prematurely causing structural damage due to water leaking through into the cab of the truck. This defective backlite by RAM 1500 has been leaking causing the rear window visibility to be affected by fogging up too easily and water dripping through the windows frame on to the inside of the window, also the vehicle is equipped with a battery pack behind the rear seat and if left to get wet will cause failures and damage to vehicle electrical system. The vehicle has been inspected and confirmed by the Ram certified dealership. Manufacture has been informed of this ongoing issue and has issued prior TSB cases for this defect. No prior issues with rear window prior to noticing the faulty cracked window frame. It appears this has been happening to several ram 1500 from years 2019-2022 this should not be happening on a like new 2 year old well taken care of vehicle

2 Issues to go over: 1.) The rear defroster. My defroster has failed on me twice. First time I had it repaired, second time they were going to charge me the same amount for the same failure. I had it repaired by my local auto shop, So it has not been touched by a manufacturer technitian. No warning to it at all. I only noticed it once I had ice covering my rear window and could not defrost, elimitating any center rear view completetly. 2.) The Main issue is the side view mirrors. They are automatic mirrors with a button on the interior to open and close them. From what the Dealership has told me is they use plastic gears to control the mirror operation. And they tend to get stripped out, this happens so often that there is a 6 month backorder on these parts. The safety issue arrises when I am driving down the road at either highway speeds or if there are large wind gusts, my side view mirror will close on me, because those gears holding the mirror in place has stripped so it just closes due to wind pressure. I have to stop the car, get our and reposition the mirror or else I have no visibility from the side view mirror that closes. This is a massive safety risk as I am unable to see to the left OR right of me if my mirror collapses shut. And the fact that this happens to so many vehicle that I cant get the parts to fix it for at least six months in unnacceptable.

Our defrost system on windshield is only working on one side. First things first, the Vin number and the picture listed does not match our vehicle so I will be calling the the safety line to get it fixed. When googling the Dodge recalls. It popped up as a recall but I guess it’s not on our vin number dodge yet? Then the truck automatically started smelling like antifreeze. When driving it sometimes loses power to the gas pedal and starts to slow down! The back windshield started leaking the same day as the defrost malfunction. There is no dash signal when there’s low air in tires….. And depending on speed of the dodge started making like dying whale moaning sounds. When turning the truck off, it stops for a minute, but then it starts again. This truck only has 50,000 miles on it and it should not be tearing up this quick as it is. When pushing the push start on and off, it always goes into a cc mode instead of turning off Last but not least the gas tank is malfunctioning when you put the gas pump into the tank I think the gas is leaking out and you have to constantly reset the gas pump handle. Also, the tailgate is getting stuck and you cannot open it. I’m afraid it’s going to come open when driving. Thank you for your time. Hope to speak with you soon. THIS INCIDENT HAS BECOME MORE PREVALENT. IT BEGAN ABOUT TWO MONTHS AGO AS WHAT I THOUGHT WAS SOMETHING STUCK IN THE GROOVES OF THE TIRES. BUT AS IT BEGAN TO OCCUR MORE AND MORE REGULARLY I FELT IT WAS TIME TO TRY AND GET SOME HELP WITH THE PROBLEM. WHILE IN MOTION, WHEN I REMOVE MY FOOT FROM THE GAS PEDAL AND IT IS NOT PRESSED AND TRUCK BEGINS DECELERATING, AT APPROXIMATELY 45 TO 50 MILES PER HOUR A DRONE/HUM WILL BEGIN WITHIN THE CAB OF THE TRUCK. IF I DO NOT PRESS THE GAS PEDAL OR ROLL DOWN WINDOWS THE DRONE/HUM WILL GET LOUDER AND MORE PRONOUNCED. IF IT IS NOT ELIMINATED, THE DRONE/HUM WILL INCREASE IN DECIBELS AND ACTUALLY BECOME PHYSICALLY FELT WITHIN THE TRUCK. SINCE THE SOUND ALMOST SEEMS TO RESONATE FROM THE SPEAKERS, I HAVE TRIED UNPLUGGING THE ANC (ACTIVE NOISE CANCELLATION) DEVICE UNDER THE DRIVER'S SEAT. WHILE THIS DOES STOP THE RADIO SPEAKERS FROM PLAYING ANY MUSIC, IT DOES ALSO SEEM TO PREVENT THE DRONE/HUM FROM OCCURRING. THE TRUCK WAS PURCHASED IN EARLY JUNE OF 2019 AND CURRENTLY HAS ABOUT 12,500 MILES ON IT. THERE HAS BEEN NO CUSTOMIZATION OR ALTERATION OF ANYTHING ON THE VEHICLE.

Experience: Ongoing issue and reproducible each time driving. Notice "stuck" feeling in steering at speeds over 45mph. "Stuck" feeling consistently reproduced while at highway speeds making left bend, left lane change, or slight left turn. Problem consistently occurs between 10 and 11 o'clock angle. Problem occurs occasionally with right bends, lane changes, and turns. Problem was experienced immediately at purchase of the vehicle (34K miles) but not fixed until 47k miles. Safety Concern: Problem occurs at high speeds and jerking the steering wheel to correct for the "stick" could lead to overcorrection or slippage, especially in poor weather conditions. Unsafe in dense traffic. Dealer: Dealer identified the issue with the rack and pinion. Dealer said "found rack to have internal fault replaced and set toe cn". Dealer mentioned there was an electrical short in the rack and pinion causing the "stick". Inspection: No inspection made by anyone other than the dealership.

Yes, a failing EGR cooler can indirectly affect the exhaust pressure control valve by disrupting the normal exhaust gas flow, potentially causing the valve to operate outside its intended parameters due to abnormal pressure fluctuations in the exhaust manifold, leading to potential issues with engine performance and emissions control. Explanation: Pressure imbalances: When an EGR cooler fails, it can leak coolant into the exhaust system, which creates steam and disrupts the normal exhaust gas flow, leading to uneven pressure changes in the exhaust manifold. EGR valve response: The exhaust pressure control valve (often part of the EGR system) relies on a specific pressure differential to regulate the flow of exhaust gas back into the engine. If the pressure in the exhaust manifold is significantly altered due to a failing EGR cooler, the valve may not function optimally. Potential consequences: Reduced engine performance: Incorrect EGR flow due to pressure fluctuations can lead to reduced power and poor acceleration. Increased emissions: Improper EGR function can result in higher emissions levels. Check engine light: A failing EGR cooler often triggers a check engine light due to the engine's inability to maintain optimal operating parameters. Key points to remember: While an EGR cooler failure directly impacts the coolant system, its effects can cascade to affect the exhaust pressure control valve due to the altered exhaust gas dynamics. If you suspect an EGR cooler problem, it's crucial to have it inspected and repaired promptly to prevent further complications with other components like the exhaust pressure control valve. The information that is above details why when the EGR cooler was recalled by mopar and then fixed is most likely the reason that caused my sensor to fail. The dealership where the recall repairs are being done is trying to charge me almost $1500.00 dollars to replace them even though they are directly related to the recall. ( 19V-757)
