There was a 4x4 warning light in Dec 2024. The dealership checked and provided a quote for a new PTU, but said we could keep driving until repair, just not to use 4x4. Then we received a recall notice for the PTU from Jeep. Have been trying to get it fixed since. The dealership says there are no parts and no remedy for the recall. The Jeep Recall team says to take it to the dealership to get it fix, pay out of pocket then get reimbursed. The Jeep Recall team does not understand there are no parts available. Twice the recall team has closed the recall case number without following up if the repair was complete. This was my wife's vehicule. In Jan and Feb of 2025 we started to have loss of power while driving in traffic, so it has been sitting idle since. I had a DMV non op on it for time, but reactivated. I was told by Jeep there would be a solution in the fourth quarter of 2025, but that has come and gone. I had to buy a new vehicule for my wife. The Jeep just sits. I tried different lawyers for possible legal action, but they wont take the case, unless the vehicule has been at the dealership waiting to be repair or has been attempted to be repair three times. It has been a long wait for nothing so far.

  • 12/31/2025· POWER TRAIN

The PTU caused the vehicle to have random grinding sounds from the drive train. There was a service 4wd engine light immediately. Took to the dealer 5/5/25 and was told about the recall of the PTU but no fix was available. I was told to keep driving and the vehicle around late December completely lost all forward gears on the highway. I was luckily able to coast to the shoulder and had it towed back to the dealer. Very lucky to not happen crossing traffic. The check engine light was also on at this point. The dealer informed me that it was in need of a new PTU and that there was still no fix for this problem. This is almost 1 year from the recall being issued. Unacceptable by any standards. Thank you

  • 12/31/2019· STEERING

I PURCHASED A NEW 2019 JEEP CHEROKEE ON 6/29/19 WITH LESS THAN 5 MILES ON ODOMETER. ON 9/7/19 (LESS THAN 1K MILES), I STARTED CAR, DROVE HALFWAY DOWN BLOCK AND THE STEERING COMPLETELY LOCKED. POWER STEERING LIGHT WENT ON AND CAR WAS NOT DRIVABLE. CALLED DEALERSHIP, WHO WAS VERY ACCOMMODATING, AND THEY TOWED THE CAR AND GAVE US A LOANER. AFTER SEVERAL DAYS, THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO COME UP WITH A SOLUTION SO THEY OPENED A CASE WITH CHRYSLER. AFTER THREE WEEKS, THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN WAS REPLACED, WHICH SEEMS LIKE A SAFETY ISSUE IN ITSELF SO I DID NOT TAKE THE CAR ON THE HIGHWAY OR ON LONG TRIPS. FOR THE FIRST COUPLE OF WEEKS, THE REPAIR SEEMED FINE, BUT THEN THE STEERING COLUMN/WHEELS STARTED MAKING LOUD GRINDING NOISES AND THUMPS WHILE PARKING AND PULLING OUT OF PARKING SPACES. NOW IT IS HAPPENING WHILE I AM DRIVING, LOUDER AND LASTING LONGER. I HAVE HAD TWO SCARY INSTANCES OF STEERING/WHEELS GRINDING, THUMPING, LOCKING WHILE CHANGING LANES AND I HAVE NO CONTROL OF THE STEERING FOR 10-20 SEC. IT HAPPENED AGAIN TODAY (12/30/19) WHILE DRIVING IN A PARKING LOT. THE STEERING LOCKED WHILE I MADE A SLIGHT TURN GOING APPROX 5MPH, AND THE GRINDING/THUMPING WAS SO LOUD AND STRONG THAT IT FELT LIKE THE WHOLE FRONT END OF THE CAR WAS GOING TO FALL OFF. THIS LASTED LONGER, AROUND 20SEC, AND THEN THE CAR JUST DROVE COMPLETELY NORMAL. I HAVE ALSO HAD MULTIPLE INSTANCES OF FEELING THAT I HAVE ZERO CONTROL OF THE STEERING AND THAT MY WHEELS ARE NOT ON THE ROAD. NO NOISE, NO LOCKING UP, JUST NO CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AT ALL. THIS IS MY THIRD 4X4 AND MY SECOND JEEP, SO I AM WELL AWARE OF HOW TO DRIVE THE CAR AND HOW IT SHOULD HANDLE. THIS IS NOT NORMAL AND, QUITE HONESTLY, I FEEL LIKE THIS CAR IS GOING TO KILL SOMEONE. TAKING BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP TOMORROW SO THEIR REPAIR DEPT CAN TROUBLESHOOT. THIS CAR IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE.

  • 12/31/2019· ENGINE

JEEP HAS A SAFETY FEATURE SO THEY SAY THAT CAUSES THE CAR TO TURN OFF WHILE DRIVING IF THE OIL IN YOUR BRAND NEW VEHICLE GETS LOW. THIS HAPPENED MANY TIMES ONCE IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION. I CALLED MY DEALER WHO TOLD ME ITS NORMAL AND TO CHANGE MY OIL EVEN THOUGH MY ONBOARD DASH SAID I WAS FINE NO OIL WARNING LIGHT JUST THE CAR TURNS OFF WHILE DRIVING. VERY DANGEROUS AND IT IS NOT EASY TO RESTART . I WAS SLOWING DOWN FOR A REDLIGHT THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND MY CAR TURNED OFF CAUSING DRIVER BEHIND ME TO ALMOST HIT ME I WAS PANICKED. THIS HAPPENED MANY TIMES MORE AND I CONTACTED JEEP DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME TO CHANGE MY OIL AND IT WONT HAPPEN AGAIN. TO HAVE A CAR SHUT OFF INSTEAD OF AN OIL WARNING LIGHT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS WHY NOT USE THE LIGHT IT CAME WITH. THAT IS NOT A SAFETY DESIGN FOR ANYONE BUT JEEP SO THEY DONT HAVE TO REPLACE BRAND NEW CARS THAT BURN OVER 3 QUARTS OF OIL EVERY 4000 MILES. THEY ARENT WORRIED ABOUT THE DRIVERS STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION WAITING AND PRAYING THEIR CAR RESTARTS. I HAVE VIDEO OF IT DOING IT MY NEIGHBORHOOD AND NEVER ONCE DOES THE OIL LIGHT COME ON. THE CAR ACTUALLY DIES WHILE IN MOTION NOT JUST STOPPED. I HAVE A VIDEO OF IT BUT IT IS 3 MINUTES LONG AND IT WILL NOT UPLOAD I GUESS DUE TO THE LENGTH OF IT. IT HAS HAPPENED MANY TIME SINCE DECEMEBER FIRST TIMES I JUST THOUGHT THE CAR WAS COLD DUE TO OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE AND THE BARS ON THE DASH INDICATING THE CAR WAS COLD. TO SAY I PURCHASED A BRAND NEW CAR AND DID NOT EXPECT TO HAVE TO ADD 3 QUARTS OF OIL EVERY 5000 MILES IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT TO FEAR FOR MY OWN SAFETY DRIVING MY CAR IS CRAZY. I HAVE CHANGED THE OIL AND NOW I HAVE TO CONSTANTLY MONITOR IT SO I CAN BE SAFE THIS SHOULD NEVER BE THE CASE AND DODGE KNOWS IT DOES THIS AND DOES NOTHING BUT OFFER AN OIL CONSUMPTION CHECK EVERY 1000 MILES. HORRIBLE

  • 12/30/2025· ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

What happened : The vehicle experienced a sudden electrical failure and loss of normal shutdown control. The vehicle would not start or turn over. After repeated attempts, it eventually started, at which point all dashboard lights began flashing uncontrollably. The engine continued running even after the ignition was turned off and the key was removed. The only way to shut the vehicle down was to disconnect the battery. This created a safety concern due to the inability to control the vehicle’s electrical systems or safely shut off the engine. The failure occurred without prior warning. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership for inspection. Diagnostics confirmed a failure of the Body Control Module (BCM). The Steering Column Control Module (SCCM) was also found to be non-functional and may have been affected by the BCM failure. The vehicle remains inoperable and is awaiting replacement of the BCM, which is currently on backorder with no estimated availability. The failed components are available for inspection upon request. The issue has been confirmed by the dealership. No crash occurred, but the malfunction posed a potential safety risk due to uncontrolled electrical behavior and inability to shut down the vehicle normally.

The car has been running out of coolant the past couple of months with no known visual leaking problems. I brought it to the mechanic who stated the radiator had to be replaced. No warning prior. No leaking or lights coming on. Another issue the uconnect subsystem powers on and off whenever it wants. Switches from GPS. Radio, heating and a/c. Causing distraction to the driver. I have not been able to know why it is happening. Went from several times a month to now daily.

The radio has started switching channels will not stay on one set station. Along with radio switching the touch screen also changes from maps to calling 911 and making sos calls, the back up camera will turn on while driving down roadway. The screen is constantly blinking and changing causes major distraction especially at night when it catches your eye. It is a major distraction while driving.

  • 12/30/2021· UNKNOWN OR OTHER

The radio screen has delaminated and Navigation now does not work and the screen constantly shows the message “Do you want to adjust your clock settings”. Doesn’t matter if I click out via “yes”, “no” or the “ X” in the upper right corner, it just comes back on. It also makes a clicking noise and there is a flashing light on the time on the screen. This is distracting while driving, and the screen will go black when I’m backing up so I can’t see anything behind me. I am the second owner and the car is out of warranty so the dealer will not cover the cost of the repair. I have to fix it so I have my navigation and back up camera again. I did my research and apparently this is a huge problem with Jeeps and Chryslers. But no recall. This is affecting my driving with the screen flipping to that message and the clicking noise. My only choice is never using the radio. The dealer will order and install the new radio when I can come up with the money to pay for it. It’s quite expensive. The problem has been confirmed by the dealer. They suggested I call FCA, which I did and they told me there was nothing they could do to offer any price relief.

AROUND 2:30 AM ON DECEMBER 30, 2020 I WAS DRIVING HOME ON THE FREEWAY. IT WAS RAINING A LITTLE BIT BUT NOTHING TO WHAT I HAVE DRIVEN IN BEFORE. I SET MY CAR TO CRUISE AT 65 MPH WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN MY STEERING WHEEL STARTED LOCKING UP. I FOUND THAT MY STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT TURN THE WAY I WANTED IT TO AND WAS VEERING LEFT. I HAD TO USE SOME FORCE TO KEEP IT STRAIGHT AND NOT GET INTO OTHER LANES. I THOUGHT I WAS OKAY UNTIL A LIGHT LIT UP ON MY DASHBOARD. I BELIEVE IT WAS THE ENGINE LIGHT BECAUSE AS I HEARD IT GO OFF AND FLASH AT ME, MY CAR STARTED TO STALL UP AND THEN GO REPEATEDLY. AS IF IT WAS HARD FOR IT TO GRASP ON TO MOVING FORWARD. LAST NIGHT WAS THE SCARIEST NIGHT OF MY LIFE AND I HAND NEVER HAD THAT HAPPEN TO ME. ALMOST PULLED OVER BECAUSE I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO CRASH. I KEPT IT AT A STABLE 60 MPH AND OFF CRUISE CONTROL AS SOON AS THE STEERING WENT HAYWIRE AND IT SEEMED TO HAVE HELPED A BIT. I FEEL THE NEED TO GET MY CAR CHECKED BUT I ALSO BELIEVE THAT ALL OTHER 2019'S SHOULD GET RECALLED FOR THIS ISSUE.

  • 12/29/2025· POWER TRAIN

We have been advised by a Jeep Dealer that this vehicle's PTU is failing and needs to be replaced immediately before the car can be driven again. There is a current recall on other 2019 Jeep Cherokees with the same issue, "Loss of Drive Power from Damaged PTU", but our Jeep is not covered under this recall although it exhibits the same symptoms and is diagnosed with a failed/damaged PTU that needs to be replace. From everything that was reviewed and reviewing the recall it is the same problem that is reflected in the recalls that Jeep made on other 2019 Jeep Cherokees. We have been quoted by the dealership that this is a $3000 fix and when we contact Chrsyler/Jeep, FCA Stellantis customer service, they are not willing to assist with getting this fixed on the vehicle. There appears to be a significant amount of information in the public that this is a known issue for these vehicles. We would like to issue a complaint regarding the matter. I am [XXX] old and have had this car serviced at all recommended intervals. I can be reached at [XXX] . Thank you. THE VEHICLE SHUTS OFF WHEN APPROACHING 3500 MILES. THIS HAPPENS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION REGARDLESS OF SPEED RENDERING THE VEHICLE EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. THE JEEP WAS TAKEN TO DEALER AND THE MECHANIC ADVISED THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH SOME OF THE NEW JEEP CHEROKEES CONTAINING CERTAIN FIAT MOTORS. THE VEHICLES NOW HAVE A FIAT MOTOR THAT APPARENTLY BURNS THE ENGINES OIL EVERY 3500 MILES & THE SHUT OFF IS A BUILT IN 'SAFETY MECHANISM' TO PREVENT THE MOTOR FROM BURNING OUT DUE TO THE LACK OF OIL. THIS INFORMATION WAS NOT DISCLOSED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED.

  • 12/28/2025· POWER TRAIN

Current mileage 120,287 have owned since purchased in 2019. On 12/28/2025 experienced a loud pop and an apparent disconnect of power to drive wheels, place car in neutral and back into drive seemed to drive normal. After driving another 12 miles and turning onto a side road experienced the occurrence again. We began having pops and vibrations as early as 2023 predominantly during an acceleration following a turn. On 10/19/2024, mileage 98,975, I requested maintenance as “developed slack in the drive train. When slowing down it bumps, when accelerating, mostly from a stop, it bangs and slips when shifting”, however despite having a tech drive with me only the hesitation was noticed. The concluded “trans no problem found at this time.” The bangs have intermittently continued but I had never experienced the loss of power like occurred on 12/28/2025.

  • 12/27/2025· ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE

The vehicle experienced a sudden and catastrophic failure of the powertrain/engine system. Based on dealer inspection, the failure requires complete replacement of the engine long block assembly, indicating an internal engine failure rather than a minor or maintenance-related issue. The vehicle and failed components are available for inspection upon request. My safety and the safety of others were placed at significant risk. The vehicle first shut off completely while I was proceeding through a four-way stop intersection, forcing me to restart the vehicle while stopped in the middle of the intersection. Later, while driving on a very busy highway, the vehicle again lost power and became completely inoperable. I was barely able to maneuver the vehicle onto the shoulder, narrowly avoiding a collision. The vehicle then would not fully shut off despite multiple attempts, further indicating a serious malfunction. The problem has been confirmed by an authorized dealer, Krebs Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM in Gibsonia, PA. After diagnostics, the dealer issued a repair estimate calling for full engine long block replacement with an estimated total cost of approximately $13,900, confirming the severity of the failure. The vehicle has been inspected by the authorized Jeep dealership listed above. It has not been inspected by the manufacturer directly, police, or insurance representatives to my knowledge. There were no warning lamps, dashboard messages, or noticeable symptoms prior to the failure. The shutdowns occurred suddenly and without advance notice.

I CALL JEEP AND THEY CHECK IT AND SAY THAT THE ENGINE WAS LOW ON OIL AND THAT WAS THE RESON IT SHUT OFF.THEN BLAMED ME FOR NOT TAKING THE JEEP TO CHANGE THE OIL AT 3000 MILES, BUT THE SAME DEALER HAD TALL ME TO CHANGED EVERY 5000 MILES. AN OIL COMSUMSION TEST STARTED AND SO FAR IT SHOWS THAT IT CONSUMED 1 QUARTER OF OIL ON 1300 MILES , DEALER RECOMEND A SECOND OIL COMSUMSION TEST.

Last week, my wife was turning left at a busy intersection and her 2019 Jeep Cherokee suddenly wouldn't accelerate, and she had to coast across 4 lanes of traffic during evening rush hour. After placing in park and shutting off to refuel, she restarted and upon putting in drive, 4WD Srv light was still on, yet this time the vehicle was able to move again. So luckily she was able to get home. Next morning, I went to take the car to local mechanic. Sitting at the end of our street and ready to turn left onto a high-traffic main road, I experienced the same condition, with 4WD Srv light, also check engine symbol indicator, and also the same error message on info screen of: "4WD Neutral Warning Vehicle May Move Even in Park." And similarly, when I tried to start pulling out with cars approaching from both directions, when taking my foot off the brake and onto the accelerator, I felt no resistance at the pedal, as RPMs increased yet the vehicle didn't move an inch. I shifted into Park, and momentarily killed the engine. Then restarted it, and once back into drive—although 4WD indicator was still on—I was able to get power to the drive wheels and was able to pull out. Seeing as my [XXX] was also in the car with me, I'm very grateful that the failure to accelerate didn't occur at the moment I would've just pulled out in front of fast-approaching traffic. I took the vehicle to a local mechanic and explained the situation. A few hours later, they called me stating the Power Train Unit (PTU) was bad and would need to be replaced. They also informed me that the part, according to a local Jeep dealer they contacted was unavailable and "not even on the horizon." They said a used and remanufactured part could be used to make the repair, but that it would cost $600 more than if a new part were available. They also said that there were no aftermarket parts available, and that the part itself was not repairable, but had to be replaced. Quoted $3700. The Power Train Unit INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I have a 2019 jeep cherokee 4wd with 46077 miles. This has never happened before until now. It was dark out heading to work. I came to a stop when I went to go the jeep just literally shut down. Everything turned off- I had no lights, no engine, no warning at all. Would not start at all. I called my husband and when I opened the driver door the jeeps dash finally came on and I tried to start it, wouldn't at first than tried again it started. I turned around and drove back home. Contacted the garage. This is unsafe for anyone to put their life on the line. I was lucky I didn't get hit. I have 5 grandkids and this is not a safe vehicle to drive when there is no warning at all. Luckily It didn't do this on the railroad tracks. The garage told me to take back to the dealership. The dealership said there are no recalls on my vehicle. However, I see other jeep cherokee with the same issues and have recalls. Why risk my life or anyone else. All jeep cherokees of any year or engine size should be taken seriously.

Ever since I bought this, the battery keeps dying. There is something in the electrical that keeps draining the battery. I went online and typed in "2019 Jeep Cherokee battery keeps dying" and there are HUNDREDS of people with the same problem as mine. I went to AutoZone and had my battery tested. The man tested the battery and it was fine. He told me that something electrical was draining the battery. Can you help us?

During highway speeds upon strong acceleration up an incline, the car’s transmission suddenly shifted into neutral with no warning, the car still in drive and no lights on dash. There was a loss of power and I had to quickly merge over in traffic to safely come to a stop. After coming to a stop, the car resumed driving normally with another incident down the road at cruising speed. This has happed about 6 times, another accelerating from a stop. So far the diagnosis is unknown, with the car scheduled for service in the next week. This is a well documented and persistent problem with these vehicles equipped with this transmission.

VEHICLE DRIVING AND WHEN COMING TO A STOP IT SEEMS LIKE THE AUTO TURN OFF WANTS TO TURN OFF EVEN BEFORE STOPPING. FEELS LIKE ITS GOING TO STALL. ALSO LEAVING A RED LIGHT WHEN IT AUTO TURNS ON IT JERKS AND THEN SWITCHING FROM FIRST TO SECONG GEAR IT JERKS. THE TRANSMISSION HAS SO MUCH LAG SWITCHING GEARS AND PICKING UP SPEED IT ALSO JERKS AND TAKES FOREVER TO PICK UP SPEED. BUT MY MOST CONCERN IS GEAR SWITCHING AND JERKING AND ALMOST STALLING WHEN COMING TO A STOP WITH THE AUTO SHUT OFF TRYING TO TURN OFF WHILE DRIVING. AND WHEN IT TURNS BACK ON IT JERKS WHEN YOU GIVE IT SLIGHT GAS.

I'm pretty sure it's the ptu . I was driving up a hilly road and my jeep had no power all of a sudden. Then the service 4wheel drive light came on in the cluster,/ dash. Then when I stopped the tires would not quit spinning. But I could tell only one at a time was rolling. But it would switch to a different tire .each time it switched it would almost catapult me of to the side or towards the middle of the road..I finally just shut the engine off . Because it seemed as though it had a mind of its own ...thank God the plow truck came up this road I was on . Because I was afraid to start it again due to the fact I did not want to go off in a trench . I had no traction when the wheels kept kicking in and out of 4 wheel drive . That to me is a big safety concern. I took it to a mechanic shop the following day and he put a scan tool on it and it came back, ptu .and he told me that this year model has a recall for the same problem .

I'm the single owner of the jeep with roughly 50,000 miles on it. It has not been abused nor been in an accident. I took the jeep in for a brake job (by an ASE certified mechanic) and during the service they noted that the casting of the rear differential had failed in what appears to be a bad casting/manufacturing defect. The part that failed is what retains the seal for the differential. Had it completely let go, the fluid could have drained out causing a complete failure of the differential. Of course, depending upon when the failure were to occur, the severity risk is vast. I had it replaced to the tune of over $3,000. On-line searches indicated that this is a known issue yet I was not able to find any sign of a recall to inspect or repair. My next step is co contact Stellantis to seek restitution although I suspect that since the failure was found beyond the warranty period, that I will be unsuccessful....fingers crossed.

The Power Transfer Unit (PTU) has failed for the SECOND TIME in this vehicles history. This problem disables the four wheel drive feature of the vehicle, causing a dashboard warning light to illuminate, and may lead to other serious drivetrain safety issues. According to the dealer service technician, the splines on the unit are wearing out and causing disengagement of the rear drive wheels. This unit was replaced two years ago, and is a known issue with the manufacturer according to my dealer service department.

This vehicle equipped with turbocharge. On 3 different occasions vehicle stalled instead of accelerating while pulling out into traffic from a stopped position. Message appeared saying "Service electronic throttle". Also, ESS symbol came on in red where warning symbols appear at the same time.Later, that went off and electrical symbol came on, looks like lightning bolt. Engine did restart itself after about 20 seconds, with vehicle shuddering rather violently. This could have caused a serious accident.

UNABLE TO PUT VEHICLE IN PARK TURN OFF THE STARTER AND AFTER ABOUT 30-60 SECONDS ABLE TO PUT INTO PARK AND RESTART THE VEHICLE. ON 12-2-18 I WAS SLOWING FOR A STOP LIGHT AND THE VEHICLE WOULDN'T ALLOW ME TO PUT THE HAZARD LIGHTS ON WHEN I COULDN'T GET THE STARTER TO DISENGAGE AND PUT INTO PARK TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. IT OCCURS WITHOUT WARNING AND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE MUST BE PULLED UP. 2. THE BRAKES OFTEN SOUND LIKE THEY ARE RUBBING (NEEDING BRAKE PADS). 3. THE RADIO WILL RANDOMLY CHANGE FROM FM TO SIRIUS AND UNABLE TO TURN OFF/ON OR RETURN TO THE RADIO MENU. 4. THE RADIO VOLUME MOST OF TIME MUST BE AT 15 OR HIGHER TO LISTEN TO THE RADIO AND WILL RANDOMLY JUMP TO FULL VOLUME WHILE DRIVING. 5. THE ANDROID AUTO THAT I USE FOR NAVIGATION AND TELEPHONE WILL RANDOMLY SCROLL THROUGH THE TELEPHONE CONTACTS AND BEGIN CALLING. I HAVE TO UNPLUG THE PHONE TO STOP THIS.
