  TIRE SIZE: 235/50 R18 I was driving on the highway at approx 65 miles per hour in the far left lane when I heard a loud POP and then my car started driving weird. No warning lights came on in my vehicle prior to. I pulled over as soon as I safely could and when I stopped and got out. I realized it was my passenger rear tire that exploded. I called AAA and they put on my spare. The next day I was able to get my vehicle to an NTB. The associate there told me that my front passenger wheel also had side wall damage and that’s likely what caused my passenger tire to pop. He commented that my tread was really good on all my tires so it wasn’t the cause. Because it was two tires that needed changing I was recommended to change all four tires for safety reasons.

  BOUGHT THIS CAR AS CERTIFIED PRE OWNED FROM A FORD DEALER WITH 28K MILES. APPROX. 4 WEEKS AFTER PURCHASE THE ENGINE STARTS RUNNING ROUGH AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WITH AN ERROR CODE P0303 MISFIRE. TOOK IT TO DEALER AND THEY DIAGNOSED COOLANT IN CYLINDER 3 WITH THE FIX BEING A NEW SHORT BLOCK ENGINE REPLACEMENT. IT WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY BUT VERY FRUSTRATING THIS HAPPENED TO A CAR WITH LOW MILES. AFTER DOING RESEARCH THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE FORD 1.5 LITER ENGINE.

  I went to get my spark plugs changed as maintenance on my vehicle. The plugs on both the second and third cylinder were very tight and breaking with residue all over the plugs. The shop I took my car to had to send it to another shop in order to get the plugs put back into the engine. Since then it sounds like a blown muffler whenever I start my car and I have a check engine light with a third cylinder misfire. I have also been having white smoke whenever I start my car with a cool engine. I tried seeing about getting the car fixed but mechanics don’t want to touch my car because they said it will not fix the issue because this is a manufacturer defect caused by coolant intrusion. Now I have to sell my car and. I am under because I still owe 6340.95 on my Loan. The most I can get for it is $3300 through Carvana. The car has less 96,092 miles.

  I haven't had an issue YET but my mother has the same exact vehicle and Ford's well known issue with the coolant leaking and destroying the engine has happened to her. She is now out $8500 for an issue that they KNOW about and should be recalling and fixing. I am submitting a complaint because I am sure I am next.

  The contact owns a 2019 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving 30 MPH, the vehicle started to hesitate. The RPM then rose to an elevated level. There was an abnormal knocking and rattling sound detected. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the connecting rod bearings were worn and recommended that the engine block needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 61,194.

  For the past few months I have been noticing a hot coolant smell from outside the vehicle. After investigating, I noticed the coolant level was low and there was residue on the valve cover. Afterwards, I refilled the coolant reservoir and continued driving for another week to make sure the coolant was leaking. Afterwards, I inspected the vehicle further to check for any external leaks and could not find any, but my reservoir was much lower when I check again. I then made an appointment with the dealership to see if they could find anything. They kept my vehicle for a day to run a pressure test, but oddly enough it passed the pressure test and they could not find any leaks. I only have 3000 miles left before the warranty expires and the service manager told me it would be fine to drive on our trip that we were getting ready to take. I did not take it on the trip because I was worried something catastrophic to the engine would happen. The dealership did not fix my problem at all. They just said it would be fine. I have to add about 1 quart of coolant every week to two weeks, which is definitely not “fine”. Ford has a service bulletin for my engine and they need replaced! They are intentionally trying to get away with not fixing the engine while it is still under warranty. There is even a class action lawsuit with this as well, as people are being scammed into paying for a whole new engine when it should have been paid for by Ford Mo Co. To add to this, mutiple vehicles were there for the same issue as mine, including new Broncos. There needs to be a recall in place!

  The engine recall was warrenteed up to 80,000 miles. l bought the vehicle with 75,000 miles. Sure enough l had the defective engine and it blew out at 113,000 miles. l ended up getting a personal loan as the engine was $10,000. I'm upset because Ford can set what ever mileage they want to establish a warranty expiration period. Hope you can help

Ford had offered a campaign thro' CSP 21N12 program but for a short time in 2022 which excluded many vehicles for people whose did have issues at that time.

  To Whom It May Concern, I am submitting this complaint to report a design defect affecting serviceability and safety on my 2019 Ford Escape. On this vehicle, replacement of a standard headlight bulb requires removal of the fender assembly in order to access the headlight housing. This design transforms a routine, safety-critical maintenance item into an excessively complex and costly repair. I have had to replace a headlight twice within the past two years. The most recent replacement cost approximately $800, with the majority of the cost attributable to labor required solely because of the vehicle’s design, not due to damage or abnormal conditions. The headlight bulb itself represents only a small portion of the total cost. Headlights are a required safety component that must be replaced periodically. A design that makes replacement prohibitively expensive discourages timely maintenance and may result in vehicles being operated with failed lighting, creating a potential safety risk. I believe this represents a failure to design for serviceability and places an unreasonable maintenance burden on consumers for a basic safety function. I respectfully request that NHTSA review this design as a potential defect. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

  I was driving on my way home then all of a sudden my car wasn’t moving when I was pressing on the gas pedal. At first I thought maybe the energy brake was on but after checking that wasn’t the problem. My car just wasn’t moving when I hit the gas. I was stranded in traffic for a bit until I decided to turn off the engine and turn it back on. I was able to park it somewhere but the problem hasn’t been resolved and it doesn’t make sense for my car which I bought new in 2019 to be having transmission problems.

  he freeway I notified future ford of concord and I was told I would receive a call back but as I recall I didn’t receive a call back. The car started acting as if nothing was wrong about a week or so later then two days ago December 13,2025 first my head lights went out and a message saying there’s a bulb outage or electrical issue appeared and also the hill assist unavailable warning light appeared , following the 911 calling assistance is unavailable as well, and I also noticed my radio is no longer producing sound so I believe the engine ( block , head gasket etc) component also electrical system, sync 3 system has also failed or malfunctioned. During the second occurrence I was driving as I was before which led to The safety of my children, my husband and myself put at risk being it was night time and I could no longer see the road the car acted as if it was turning off and slowing down.. yes there was warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem during the failures, and they first appeared at the exact time of the failures .   The driver's side rear door panel gets caught on the door frame and will only open a couple of inches unless force is used. The car has never been in an accident, and nothing has ever been shoved or forced against the door to cause this. There are MANY reports online of similar issues with the Escape (https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/Discussion-t66217_ds936400, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TaP7DcfkJ9g, https://community.cartalk.com/t/ford-escape-door-trim-clips/179063, among others). This is a safety issue because if someone needs to enter or exit the back seat quickly, it is difficult or would be impossible if the person was physically injured or had a physical disability that limited their upper-body strength. The problem has been confirmed by a Ford dealer. I am not sure to what extent they "inspected" it. There was no warning or any other symptoms prior to the failure.

  I purchased my car 2019 FORD ESCAPE in September 2023, last week it cut off. It will not crank. I changed the key forb batteries, then the engine stated "ENGINE FAULT SERVICE NOW". The car did start but after running about 40 mins, I noticed the heat was not working, only cold air coming out. All of a sudden, the ENGINE ran HOT. I pulled over cut it off. Looked under hood, coolant reservoir was empty. Finally got coolant in the car. After driving another week, added more coolant. I am now on my 4th container of antifreeze in a little over 2 weeks. no visible leak on the ground under the hood. This morning , my car would not start again. And a smell was inside the car like exhaust fumes, a sweet smell, plastic burning smell. the smell was inside however when I got out of the car you ccould smell the smell away also like 10 feet. I checked my oil and the stick was covered with black thick oil; however when i checked the dipstick MY CAR WAS EMPTY OF OIL.

  THE VEHICLE STARTED RUNNING ROUGH AND MISSING AT 75 MPH WITH ABOUT 5000 MILES ON IT. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, CRUISE CONTROL SHUT OFF. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID I HAD 3 TROUBLE CODES BUT I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE WERE. THEY REPROGRAMMED SOMETHING A GAVE ME THE CAR BACK A WEEK LATER. TWO WEEKS AFTER THAT I STARTED GETTING ANOTHER CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WITH THE CODE P0420. THE LOCAL DEALER SAYS THEY CAN'T FIX IT OR HONOR MY WARRANTY BECAUSE IT'S A US SPEC VEHICLE AND I'M IN EUROPE. I HAVE A BRAND NEW VEHICLE THAT I HAVE TO CLEAR THE CODE EVERY OTHER DAY. TO MAKE MATTERS WORST THE SMALL DOOR THAT COVERS THE ODB PORT WON'T CLOSE CORRECTLY. I'M SURE IT WASN'T DESIGNED TO BE OPENED EVERY OTHER DAY.

  I have a 2019 Ford escape. I’ve replaced the lightbulbs on both sides several times. The housing has burned out several times not just the bulbs. Twice they have burned out at the same time. The 2019 and the 2017 have the same light fixtures. The 2017 headlights were recalled. I contend that my car should be covered under the recall. I’ve called two local Ford dealers both are familiar with my problem and have told me there’s recall “yet”.

On September 23, 2025, at 72,233 miles, the engine failed due to coolant leaking into the combustion chamber (cylinder #3). Ford’s own dealer confirmed coolant intrusion and referenced Ford TSB 22-2239. This issue is associated with known EcoBoost coolant-intrusion failures documented in multiple Ford bulletins and class-action suits. The engine failure required a complete long-block replacement costing $8,644.38. Ford denied assistance despite the failure occurring within the extended 7-year/84,000-mile coverage window under Customer Satisfaction Program 21N12. Coolant intrusion can cause sudden engine failure, stalling, loss of power, or inability to accelerate, creating a hazardous driving condition.   When getting gas..afterwards went to start and it would act like it wasn't getting gas..within hours after the check engine light came on..took to dealer to read trouble code..came up as a p0496..evap purge valve sticking open..also have noticed the built in remote start function is not working and will sound horn briefly instead..also looked up code my self and understand that it is a emissions safety issue being that it is evap purge valve..and have scheduled a appointment with dealer to have it fixed..due to the fact I have a extended service warranty on it..

  Vehicle has 32K miles on it and both low beam headlight bulbs failed at the exact same time. My daughter had just left her house and as soon as she got away from street lights she realized this. The odd part is that the in-dash indicators showed everything working normally with NO FAULTS, so we assumed it was an electrical issue. We got it to a Ford dealer (she has an extended warranty), and they "fixed a connection that had corroded, causing both bulbs to fail." NOT covered under warranty, $250 to replace two bulbs and clean sockets. There are numerous Ford forums with the same complaints. Just felt that you folks should be made aware...

  The contact owns a 2019 Ford Escape. While the contact’s daughter was driving 65 MPH, the driver's side rear control arm fractured and detached. The contact stated that the failure occurred when the vehicle drove over a mild bump on the road, causing the entire driver's side rear wheel to detach from the vehicle. In addition, the contact stated that his 1-year-old grandchild was an occupant of the vehicle and was seated in the rear seat when the failure occurred. The contact stated that the daughter was able to safely drive the vehicle to a nearby Midas, where the technician stated that they did not know how the contact's daughter was able to drive the vehicle in the defective condition. The technician informed the contact that when the vehicle arrived at the shop, the driver's side rear wheel was dangling and flopping, and the rear of the vehicle was fishtailing. The contact was informed that the driver's side rear control arm had fractured in half and detached from the vehicle. The contact was informed that the driver's side rear control arm needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. In addition, the contact was given the detached rear driver's control arm. The contact stated that the driver's rear control arm had a crack, which indicated a previous failure. The contact stated that the failure could have caused injuries and needed to be addressed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 54,000. The VIN was unavailable.

  Car operated fine until it suddenly started running rough, then lost power/accelleration while driving down a busy state highway. Ford Dealership found what the service manager called "catastropic engine failure, caused by coolant instrusion." He showed us the whole process of coolant corruption of our Ford Escape's engine -- and the engineering flaw that caused the intrusion. Service manager explained that our 2019 Ford Escape model was "the Problem Child of Ford Motor Company." The loss put our daughter, alone, stranded on the side of a 55 mph 2-lane highway in a car with only 57,000 miles. It put other highway drivers at risk as well. We had no warning that something was wrong with the car. The check engine light came on AT the time of the incident. That is, when the car started feeling rough and wouldn't accellerate, the check engine light came on Car and mechanics who repaired it are all available upon request.   I purchased my 2019 ford escape 1.5 ecoboost almost 3 years ago and now without any common symptoms I have a manufacture fault caused coolant leak into my engine. To keep my vehicle in a safe driving condition I would need a new $10K engine replacement. Ford negligently did not recall the part that caused the issue.

  The vehicle went from normal operating temperature to max temperature on the gauge in a matter of seconds and triggered a vehicle overheat warning message. The vehicle was consuming coolant and has the issue described in TSB 20-2100. Coolant was leaking into the cylinders and hot exhaust gas was leaking into the coolant, which quickly caused the engine to rapidly overheat to an extreme temperature. The extreme engine temperature could have caused a fire.

AS OF NOVEMBER 11TH I AUTO STARTED MY CAR- WHEN I WENT TO GET IN IT WAS RUNNING FUNNY AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS BLINKING. The contact was able to restart the vehicle; however, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact stated that he had been filling the coolant reservoir constantly prior to the engine stalling due to the engine overheating. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and drove it to a dealer who diagnosed the vehicle and determined there was coolant intrusion into the cylinders. The contact stated that the dealer replaced the short block under Technical Service Bulletin: 19-2139 - Coolant Intrusion into the Cylinders (Engine and Engine Cooling). The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 69,619.

  My transmission failed at 64,000 miles and the car is currently in the dealer awaiting repair. I was traveling down a long hill on the interstate 86 in NYS. The adaptive cruise control was on.and set to 60mph. The engine suddenly accelerated to 7500 rpm but this did not change the speed of the car. I was startled by this high revving engine situation and tapped the brake, disengaging the adaptive cruise control and causing the engine to stop the highspeed revving. I put the car in neutral and rolled to a stop on the roadside. There were no warning lights before or after the incident. I had the car towed to the Ford dealership where I purchased the car. They confirmed that the car needed a new transmission but the transmissions were back ordered with no available date when it would be available. The transmission would have to be rebuilt a a cost of $9000. I figured this close to the warranty mile expiration date and still within the warranty time expiration, Ford would do something to help with partial or full coverage for the transmission. I opened a case with Ford customer support and and they refused any funds to help with this repair. This is not the first issue with this car. In April of 2022, I had a check engine light come on. The car which had 40,000 miles on it was running fine but I brought it to the dealer to check it out. To my surprise the car needed a complete engine replacement. This was called a "long block" replacement. I brought this previous repair to Fords attention as a possible reason the transmission died way before it's normal lifespan but received no sympathy. So I am stuck with a $10,000 expense on a four year old car.

  The contact owns a 2019 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the message "Hot" was displayed. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring intermittently. The contact stated that upon inspecting the vehicle, there was sufficient coolant in the coolant reservoir and the engine was not overheating. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, there was a significant amount of white smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine base had failed, and the dealer determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 74,000.

  Bought new March 2019; May 2020, with 32,000 miles, had a coolant leak and had to replace engine; about 6 weeks later needed anew flywheel and about 2 months after that needed some of the oxygen sensors replaced.

  I was stopped and when I stepped on the gas pedal to make my turn my car's engine accelerated at full force, stepping on the brake It wouldn't stop the car. I put the car in neutral and was able to pull over break and put it in park. It was as if the car was possessed and took me for a wild ride. I called the dealership they checked it out no dash lights came on no nothing so they were unable to detect any problem. I had my car for almost 3 years I'm an experienced driver and nothing ever happened to me like this before. The dealership tried to tell me my mat must have been stuck under my gas pedal which I know is not true due to I look down at my gas pedal while trying to break and if it was stuck under my gas pedal like they're saying my car wouldn't accelerate I would have trouble pushing the gas and making it go so nothing makes sense.

  Took my 2019 escape in for regular maintenance of changing spark plugs and transmission fluid change. My vehicle was running just fine no issues when I brought it in. They did the service and only after a test drive did it start to misfire. Long story short the mechanic found it was issue with a faulty cracked piston in the cylinder which caused antifreeze to leak into the cylinder. The only repair for this is a new engine! I regularly serviced my vehicle several times a year at ford and never once received any sort of recall alerts in the mail, email or ford app nor did any the of ford service technicians mentioned anything during service appointments. Excuse my wording If I didn’t use the correct terms but this is literally the same issue the f150’s are having so I am curious to why mine has not been recalled yet? I have a 5 year old suv that now needs a new engine and ford knows about the fault and they best replace my engine for free this is shady ford. I’m single mom of 3 kids I can’t afford to replace an engine?! That’s why I bought the 2019 escape brand new to avoid stuff like this happening on a older vehicle but now here I am with a vehicle that is un drivable after 5 years!! Please add this model to your recall ford don’t be so greedy it’s your mistake you pay for it!

  While driving once I exited off the highway the rpm gauge was going up and down before I could exit onto a secondary highway. If I would have continued on the highway and loss acceleration I would have been in danger as well as other drivers because I no longer had control of making the car move. All of a sudden, the car started to slow down and when I pressed the accelerator, the car jerked and would not accelerate so as I pulled over. After I pulled over, I could not get the car to move again and the accelerator would not work at all. Had to call a tow truck. Towed to dealership. Dealership called 2 days later to tell us the transmission needed to be replaced.

  A fault in the engine block caused a crack allowing coolant to spill into the engine's cylinders. A powertrain fault occurred with loss of power while driving. The problem has been confirmed and inspected by the manufacturer. Misfires occurred intermittently prior to the failure.

  COOLANT WATER INTRUSION INTO THE CYLINDER BLOCK. COOLANT INTRUSION DUE TO MANUFACTURE DEFAULT. LONG BLOCK NECESSARY TO COMPLETE REPAIR. REPAIR IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT APPEARED. OBD WARNING CODE P303 SUGGESTED CYLINDER 3 MISFIRE. COOLANT LEVEL WAS NOTED TO BE LOW. VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP PROMPLY. AFTER DEALER INSPECTION COOLANT WATER INTRUSION WAS FOUND. IF THIS PROBLEM WAS NOT DIAGNOSED EARLY IT COULD'VE CAUSED ENGINE FAILURE WHILE DRIVING.

  Coolant is going into the engine. Ford will not replace since it is a known issue and not a recall. I've had to replace cylinder 3 and spark plug since car started jolting down the road and wouldn't go past 30 mph. Constantly adding coolant. It is available for inspection upon request. Safety is a big issue since I have 2 kids that are with me in that vehicle. If the engine fails while I'm driving it puts everyone on the road at risk. Local Ford dealership confirmed with me this issue was coolant intrusion. This issue has been ongoing since June 2024 until present Nov 2024. Messages for engine failure have popped up. Overheating has came about. Misfiring popped up.

  The contact owns a 2019 Ford Escape. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V413000 (Power Train) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that while attempting to accelerate to merge onto a highway at approximately 45 MPH, the vehicle began to lose forward momentum. The contact stated that he pulled over and turned the vehicle off; however, when he restarted the vehicle and shifted into drive(D), the vehicle would not move forward. The engine revved while attempting to shift back into park(P). The contact stated that he had to turn the vehicle on and off numerous times until he was able to move forward. The contact drove the vehicle to a dealer; however, the vehicle was not yet diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle had been at the dealer for over two months. The contact stated the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 8,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
