While driving a message appeared on the dash "SERVICE CHARGING SYSTEM" and vehicle doesn't even accelerate(we stay in Des Moines and visited my cousin in Dallas,TX, this is where this issue happened). Luckily I was on local road I was able to pull off, what would be the situation if it happens on interstate with such high speed travelling vehicles behind me. I was driving with my 2 kids and wife and I feel it's more dangerous to take a trip with this vehicle. Please try to find a solution or issue an recall and doesn't want this situation to happen to anybody.

  • 12/30/2022· POWER TRAIN

This Pacifica shifted hard from 1st to 2nd gear about a month ago. We were driving 75 mph and then the vehicle lost all power on the interstate. Had to shut the car off and turn it back on before I continue on my way.

Vehicle parked faced in in a tight fitting space in a hotel underground parking area. When leaving the knob was in the park position, push button start, vehicle started in the park position, looked behind and the people across from me had just loaded their van. They were now on the side of their van. It was now clear. I then placed the transmission from park to reverse still with the foot on the brake. I then released the brake . The vehicle suddenly and abruptly went in reverse without accelerating but when applying the brake the vehicle would not stop and continued going backwards even though I was firmly now pressing and pumping on the brake pedal to no avail. I yelled at my wife, "it won't stop, it won't stop" It backed up not stopping for approximately 25 feet and struck two vehicles finally coming to rest, The damage to all three vehicles including mine was minor. I reported the accident on private property to my insurance company. I know for a fact that my foot did not push down on the accelerator pedal nor was part of my foot on both the brake and accelerator pedal. which is almost impossible to do. The stop start system had broken three times since purchasing the van. This was done again 2 weeks before this accident. The vehicle is available for inspection. Quite apparent ithis is a safety risk. This occurred 1 day ago and has not been inspected. Accident on private property in Calif. No accident report was taken. No warning lamps, messages etc occurred. I keep the van in good repair. No warnings light at all other than the stop start feature which was dealt with by the Chrysler dealership. They, in my opinion have not been helpful to me. The rep I talked with at the dealership re the stop start problem was not aware that the alternator is 14 volts and the battery 12 volts. How basic.

  • 12/29/2021· POWER TRAINCrash

The following has happened twice. Once with me and once with my wife. The van is in reverse. My foot is on the brake. I am getting ready to reverse the van to get out of a parking space. Suddenly, the van lurches forward when I take my foot off the brake. The lurch is not soft of mild, it is shocking and frightening. In one case, we hit the car parked ahead of us. In both cases, had a person been in front of the car, he or she would have been surely injured.

  • 12/27/2024· ENGINE

The 2019 Chrysler Pacifica limited with 3.6l Pentastar engine had a check engine light come around 90,000 miles. The vehicle would suddenly lose acceleration power without warning, especially while getting onto the freeway. It was found that there is a known issue with the 3.2 and 3.6l Pentastar engines where the camshafts begin throwing metal shavings into the cylinders. The issue first presented itself as a cylinder 6 misfire with error code P0306. After replacing the spark plugs, coils, and VVT solenoids, the problem continued until the metal shavings were discovered. The design flaw of the engine causing the camshaft to produce metal shavings into the cylinders that lead to the sudden loss of acceleration is a major safety concern.

  • 12/23/2019· WHEELS

THE ALL SEASON TIRES PROVIDED WITH THE NEW VEHICLE ARE USELESS ON SNOWY ICY MINNESOTA ROADS. VERY LONG STOPPING DISTANCE. TWO EXPERIENCED VAN DRIVERS NOTICED THE DIFFERENCE RIGHT AWAY. THE EXTRA SMALL TREAD TOWARD THE MIDDLE OF THE WIDE TIRES DOES LITTLE TO IMPROVE TRACTION FOR ACCELERATING FROM A PARKED POSITION. ALSO, SKIDDING IS MUCH MORE LIKELY WITH THESE TIRES. THE TIRES SHOULD HAVE MUCH DEEPER TREADS SINCE THEIR WIDTH GIVES LESS TRACTION.

The contact owns a 2019 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated that while stopped on an incline, the vehicle hesitated while depressing the accelerator pedal. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact restarted the vehicle and the failure recurred while reversing. The contact restarted the vehicle however, the failure persisted after shifting to drive(D). The lights on the gear shifter started to flash with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact restarted the vehicle and drove to the residence. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the vehicle was not under recall or covered under warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 96,000.

  • 12/17/2023· POWER TRAIN

Vehicle more and more frequently clunks the transmission when accelerating or shortly after excelerating to highway speeds. First started around 60k+ miles. Can tell when it will occur because the engine RPMs don't match the throttle input. RPMs rev just as transmission is ready to shift. Slight feeling of being out of control for a moment, especially in the rain. A quick Google search shows us that the shift jolt isn't new and is actually exactly what was happening with the Honda Odyssey van, which used to share the same transmission. Dealership acknowledged the issue has occured with multiple customers but Chrysler doesn't warrant the concern due to the $8,000+ service expense.

A slow coolant leak is draining the coolant from the reservoir into the engine. This has happened twice now and no external leaks can be found. The first instance in June 2021 was on a trip from Goldsboro, NC to Antigo, WI. We made it to Chicago and noticed the engine temp climbing. We thought it was due to the trip and heat but had just stopped in Ohio the day prior. We took the vehicle to a local shop and they told us the coolant was nearly gone. The second time happened just [XXX] when I took my Pacifica in for an oil change. The shop stated my coolant was very low and they had to fill it up. They again found no visible external leak. I had noticed that it was low as well the day prior after getting home and knowing the shop is less than 2 miles away I knew I could get the van there safely. I did notice the temperature going up quickly even though it has been bitterly cold the last few days. I've been doing research and found many Pacifica and other online forums stating this issue had led to engine failures totaling repair costs in excess of $5,000 as of 2023 before continued inflation. This poses a huge safety risk for motorists if the engine fails while in transit as well as during extreme weather both cold and hot. Please hold the manufacturer accountable to fix this common defect for those of us who cannot afford a new vehicle. On two different occasions and in two different places my vehicle stalled.Once on a highway in a traffic jam and once coming off a highway exit on my way home. In both cases the vehicle simply lost power. It is a 2019 Pacifica Touring L. I looked it up and saw similar complaints concerning the hybrid model but none for a non-hybrid. The vehicle is available for inspection. It is an extreme safety issue as both happened on or just leaving a major highway with lots of traffic. I am taking it into the local dealer hopefully tomorrow. The vehicle has not been inspected by anyone as of this date. No warning lights or messages flashed prior to the events. The vehicle has been serviced by the local Chrysler dealer up until the last oil change at 48,000 miles. On each occasion I instinctively stabbed the "start" button and it fired right up. Dates were 12/01 and 12/09.

On Dec 5th, as I was driving downhill on Hwy 54 in Peachtree City, GA, the van jerked, made a beeping noise, and the dash lit up. The van had completely shut off. It said "service charging system" and "shift to park". I was able to get the van off the roadway and into a parking lot by coasting. Despite turning it off, it kept turning back on with the ac on full blast. It finally stopped turning back on after I opened the driver door and left it open. It restarted and my husband drove it home. I called Chrysler when I got home. They said to call the local dealership to get recall fixed and have them look at the engine. I called the dealership first thing the next morning. He said the first available appointment would be Dec 28th. They no longer have a loaner program so I had to contact Chrysler cares back regarding rental. I sent them a message asking about a rental. They recommended I try to find an appt at another dealership. They also stated they couldn't speak to if it was safe to drive the van until seen at the dealership. On Friday Dec 9, I had to use the van. It stalled 5 times. I was able to get it off the roadway and restarted immediately. I contacted Chrysler again to request they contact the dealer to try to get me in sooner and they need to provide me a rental. This is a huge safety concern, and this is an issue that has been impacting their vans for a long time now. We love the van, but so disappointed that it is failing us and doesn't even have 50k miles on it! Their customer service is terrible. They are aware of these issues!!!

Which component or system failed or malfunctioned and can it be inspected upon request? How has your safety or that of others been threatened? I think there is a problem with the circuit part or the engine control device. The vehicle automatically shuts off at low speed or in a parked state, and cannot be restarted for a long time. The engine suddenly turned off and could not be started while driving, posing a threat to the safety of my life and that of others. The transmission controller is completely inoperative, with no display or function. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? unknown Has the vehicle or parts been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others? unknown Were there any warning lights, messages or other symptoms of the problem before the failure and when did they first appear? No warning lights, messages or other symptoms, first appeared in October 2022, because I bought a used car, so I don't know if this happened before, but it has happened about 8 times since I bought the car in October of 2022 .

  • 12/05/2025· STEERING

Steering wheel sticks when attempting to return to straight position after a curve. Usually occurs when turning right but sometimes left. Only occurs at highway speeds, not on city streets. Chrysler dealer inspected vehicle, said no problem was found, recommended having tire alignment checked. Front tires did not need alignment but rear tires did and were aligned. Unfortunately, this did not correct the problem. This appears to be the same steering problem reported to affect 2017 and 2018 Pacifica per NHTSA investigation. Note: incident date, below, is date problem was first noticed. Problem is ongoing.

Twice it coasted farther than normal when coming to a stop and twice more the brake pedal pushed back against my foot when already at a complete stop, causing the car to roll forward even though my foot was attempting to keep the brake pedal pressed. I had to lift my foot and slam it back down to stop the vehicle. There is a hissing sound when depressing the pedal. A quick google search points to brake booster with multiple reports for this make/model. This needs to be recalled! We are taking it to a dealership in the morning. While driving the car down a busy 4 lane road at 55mph on [XXX] around [XXX] in Irvine, CA, the car began to shake as the steering locked up and alerts came up on the dash that the power steering had failed. After turning the car off and on it did not fix it. Leaving it off for 15 mins seemed to make the error go away. We had it towed to Tustin Tuttle Chrysler dealership for service. The dealership found the fault code in the log, it was a power steering control failure. They could not replicate the circumstance and insist on releasing the car as safe to drive; putting my family and the public at great risk. The dealership refuse to even run diagnostics on the faulty identified part. They said if they cannot recreate the problem they won’t fix it, even though they see the error code on their scanner. They shouldn’t be telling me the car is safe when it is clearly not. They only drove it 30 miles and did not check wiring or even pop the hood. They have done no work to deem it safe and this is fraud. Rochelle, the service manager, has told us over the phone that she will not work on the car, because she believes she will not be reimbursed for the work. She has said she has had the car for too long and wants it picked up. Her service advisor Erik, has read us the codes found over the phone and also told us that no one has worked on it and only has test driven it. Our greatest concern is the dealership is not servicing or repairing vehicles and putting very dangerous cars on the road. This is a public safety issue for all of Southern California. Additionally, this car was purchased with a full manufacturer’s bumper-to-bumper warranty, of which it is still in its covered in the next 3 years or 40,000 miles. My care had issue and showing message on dashboard for "service shifter" and was diagnosed by the Ferman Dealership on US 19, New Port Richey, FL. After dealership fixed the issue, Paid around $800, I picked up the car and drove around and took on freeway, after sometimes I got the message of service shifter again on dashboard and steering became hard and other function were stopped working. It felt like car was driving by itself as it would go up in speed even when i did not have my foot on it. Even after hitting the break it would stop but then again it would go up in speed by itself. I parked my car and waited after 15 to 20 min then started driving normally. I had to drop the car back to the dealership and explained the whole situation. They looked at it again and fixed the issue. After picking it up 2nd time i noticed i had issue with my screen. It started acting on its own like it was a ghost touch screen. It would jump to other setting while listening to music or have my navigation on, it would stop. Also, when backing up the care i noticed my back camera went blank, I could not see anything. Also, other time other cameras went blank. Like a black spot where you can't see anything. Called the dealership again and explained them. They told me to do the resent which i could not able to do it so went to dealership and they did reset the screen but after sometimes on the same day it started acting up again. I dropped the car again and told them to look into it. They did reset it again and told me that due to sun exposure screen has bubbles inside. I have this car since 5 years and did not have this problemThis issue i didn't have it before service shifter message popped up. Now they said there will be additional cost to replace the screen which cost around $1700. This is something that dealership needs to cover since issue started after fixing service shifter problem. And this is a safety issue as when i back up i can't see anything and screen acting on its own.

  • 11/22/2019· SEAT BELTS,SEATS

THE THIRD ROW BENCH SEEMS EASILY CAPABLE OF POPPING OFF ITS ATTACHMENT TO THE FLOOR WITH A BIT OF PRESSURE. WHEN WE INSTALLED OUR BABY CAR SEAT IN THE THIRD ROW FOR THE FIRST TIME, WE LOCKED IT IN PLACE WITH THE SEAT BELT AND THEN TIGHTENED THE SEAT INTO PLACE BY USING THE ELECTRIC RECLINE TO SQUEEZE SOME EXTRA ROOM AND MAKE SURE THERE WAS NO GIVE. AT SOME POINT WE TIGHTENED THE RECLINE TOO MUCH AND THE BASE OF THE WHOLE THIRD ROW POPPED OFF OF THE FLOOR. EVERYTHING SEEMED FINE ONCE WE STARTED OVER AND RESET THE SEAT IN PLACE. I ALSO DISCONNECTED THE POWER RECLINE BUTTON IN THAT ROW SO THAT OUR SON WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO RE-CREATE THAT ISSUE. HOWEVER, A FEW WEEKS AGO MY WIFE WAS PUTTING SOME LARGE ITEMS IN THE CAR AND SHE WAS TRYING TO PUT DOWN THE THIRD ROW PASSENGER SEAT USING THE RECLINE BUTTONS IN THE TRUNK. SHE ACCIDENTALLY PUSHED THE RECLINE BUTTON FOR THE HALF OF THE ROW THE BABY CAR SEAT IS IN INSTEAD OF THE SIDE OF THE ROW WITH AN EMPTY SEAT. AGAIN, THE WHOLE THIRD ROW POPPED APART FROM THE FLOOR AT ITS BASE. TO FIX IT I UNINSTALLED THE CAR SEAT AND THEN REINSTALLED THE THIRD ROW BENCH AND THEN THE CAR SEAT AGAIN. THIS SECOND INCIDENT GOT ME WONDERING HOW MUCH PRESSURE IT TAKES FOR THE THIRD ROW TO DETACH FROM THE FLOOR? I'M CONCERNED THAT IN AN ACCIDENT THE WHOLE BACK OF THE CAR WOULD BECOME VERY DANGEROUS AND SEAT BELTS AND CAR SEATS WOULD DO LITTLE TO PROTECT ANYONE FROM A FLOATING BENCH. BY PUTTING THE CAR SEAT IN PLACE AND TIGHTENING THE RECLINE WE MUST BE PUTTING A LOT OF PRESSURE ON THE FLOOR ATTACHMENTS AND ANY ADDED PRESSURE POTENTIALLY PULLS IT RIGHT OFF. THAT SEEMS LIKE A HUGE DESIGN FLAW. IN THE MANUAL ALL IT SAYS IS: IN A COLLISION, YOU OR OTHERS IN YOUR VEHICLE COULD BE INJURED IF SEATS ARE NOT PROPERLY LATCHED TO THEIR FLOOR ATTACHMENTS. ALWAYS BE SURE THE SEATS ARE FULLY LATCHED.*DT *JB *DT*JB*DT*JB

Driving on the Highway with my entire family of 6 people (with 2 young kids) and my Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid 2019 suddenly stops. When I press the accelerator the vehicle doesn't respond. When I shut it off, wait for a couple of minutes and turn it on again, it gives an error saying service charging system. I had to shut it down on the highway and get it towed to the nearest dealer. I see several customer complaints with the same issue. I also see a NTHSA investigation of the same :- https://www.autoevolution.com/news/nhtsa-investigates-transmission-issue-affecting-chrysler-pacifica-phev-194678.html This is a fairly new vehicle (~40000 miles) with full service and maintenance done. Last month I took it for service at Chrysler dealership and they did service with 20 point inspection and no one identified or mentioned anything wrong with the vehicle.

We bought our brand-new Chrysler van in 2019. On [XXX] the oil filter housing needed to be replaced due to cheap manufacturing parts. It cost us $918.78. In October of 2025, we were experiencing some shaking in our van. Upon investigation, it was diagnosed with a blown head gasket. The repair was estimated at $3000 - $4000. The mileage on our van was a little over 93,000 miles. We were meticulous with the maintenance of our van. This, according to Chrysler Pacifica owner online forums, is not uncommon. There is a general outrage at the obvious manufacturing error. Is there any class action lawsuit ongoing? Is there any recourse available? Chrysler should pay out due to their shoddy work. Van engine failed during driving. This is a known issue by Chrysler and they will not repair the underlying problem - this is related to a prior recall. Instead, it only suggested replacing the battery which is a temporary fix. Separately, this van has a pending recall due to a fire risk. Unable to use the plug-in hybrid function of the van nor park it in a garage due to the recall issue. It has been almost four months since the recall notice without any news of when Chrysler will fix this problem. I requested a buy back due to the inherent risk of severe injury from simply being inside this van but was denied.

Very LOUD metallic clanking noise while driving 40-50 mph coming from front left wheel. When I inspected it, I saw that the front left wheel bearing hub mounting bolt had backed out of the hub and steering knuckle and onto the CV shaft end, which is what caused the clanking. I have photos of this damage. Vehicle is 3 years old and has 46,000 miles on it. I believe it should be obvious why wheel bearing hub mounting bolts backing out on their own is quite dangerous. This problem has not been confirmed by my local dealer. The manufacturer has not been made aware of this problem. There was no warning sign that this would occur. It happened spontaneously while driving this morning.

The vehicle jerked, stopped and would not start again. After a while it started, people were honking to move. This happened about 3 years ago. The vehicle jerks often and afraid it will leave us on the street. About 2 years ago, the auxiliary battery ran down the main battery. The car would not start. Had to buy both batteries. The lights come on, engine, traction and auxiliary battery light. This happens often on a weekly basis.

We had put a ladder on the roof of our van to return to Home Depot, and I opened our rear gate. I didn't know it at the time, but the van's rear gate could not open all the way at the top because of the ladder, which hung a few inches over the top of the gate. Because I didn't know the ladder was in the way, when the rear gate opened, I bent over inside the van with my small dog to put her in her crate. Immediately, I heard the warning beeper start to go off, but before I could move out of the way, the gate came zooming down fast on my head and I had to squeeze to the size and fell into my driveway bushes trying to get out of the way. Thankfully, neither I nor my dog were harmed, but we could have both been seriously injured or killed. I have no idea why a rear gate would descend so fast or not sense that I and my dog were present.

On two occasions, my Pacifica Hybrid van lost electrical power and stalled while driving at high speed on the highway. In each case I was able to safely coast the vehicle over to a breakdown lane but the experiences were terrifying for my family and I. After stalling the vehicle remained frozen in a strange electrical system status and would not restart. Eventually I was able to get the system to restart by pulling and replacing fuses. To do this in a narrow breakdown lane while semi trucks are flying by at high speed was, again, terrifying.

While traveling in the left hand lane I was hit on the right side pushing me into a median. I applied the brakes and they didn’t stop the vehicle. When the van came into contact with the curb. The airbags deployed. I smelt smoke and told my 4 young children in the back seat we needed to get out now. Two of my children were in 5 pt harness car seats in the third row. We were able to run to a safe area before it went up in flames less than a few mins later. There were no witnesses and no one around. My children and I could of been seriously injured or worse. No warning lights were active. No signs of failure until I tried pressing the brakes. The vehicle was inspected by the fire department that arrived on scene when it was fully engulfed in flames at that point.

Chrysler issued recall 72B back in July but has failed to provide a repair solution to the issue of a high voltage battery fire. They have advised to park the vehicle away from structures and to not charge. It's disappointing not to have a resolution or fix for this issue, especially going into the colder months and not being able to use the vehicle as intended.

While driving, vehicle will display "stop safely vehicle will stop soon" and illuminate the battery and auto stop/start icons. This had happened previously and I was advised to have the auxillary battery replaced. After, the issue did not occur for a month or so but happened again. Had been intermittent but the car never shut off as I have read has happened to others. The additional issue I have is several times when I turned the vehicle off after the warning appeared, the vehicle would not start. I have an appointment with the dealership tomorrow to see what they can uncover. I have seen the recalls about this primarily about the EV models (which mine is not) but still want this noted. I have read it has varied from a wiring connector and needing a new transmission. There are currently no active recalls for my specific vehicle. Very scary stuff with a vehicle full of kids at times.

Has us seriously questioning the the safety of our van with 2 young kids.

It malfunctioned on October 25th, it started working briefly the same day, but ultimately quite again until we reset it in the early evening. Reset being disconnecting the battery for an hour then reconnecting. After that, it worked fine the next day, throughout the drive home, and all week until it quit yesterday, Nov 2, 2025. It hasn’t worked since, even after a reset since yesterday Mov. 2, 2025. When making a hard left turn, the steering wheel system stopped completely!!! This caused it to be EXTREMELY HARD to steer the car and it steered the van towards traffic!!! If my wife had been driving, we would have been involved in a MAJOR TRAFFIC ACCIDENT! No steering at all, who designs a steering system that has the possibility of, when failing, puts the vehicle & passengers at risk of serious injury or death!!!

This vehicle continues to display the same symptoms that are listed in V53/NHTSA 19V-348. The steering wheel gets stuck when making turns on roads at around 40 mph. It also displays similar behavior when making slow moving turns and the wheel is fully locked to turn either left or right. I have called FCA today and asked that my vehicle be included in the recall notice. The customer service person I spoke to could not do that for me. She could only suggest that I lodge a complaint on this site. It's a dangerous situation when you are driving as you hope that the steering wheel will return to the straight ahead position after making the turn. This makes my wife nervous to drive. It is negligent for FCA to ignore this as the end result could be tragic if not addressed. I implore you to add my VIN or batch of manufacture to this recall. To answer the bullet point questions. 1. Steering. 2. Risk that the steering wheel will not return to the straight ahead position. 3. I could easily replicate this behavior if a dealer would want to drive with me for a few hours to the roads that I know that this occurs. I could most likely demonstrate the low speed outcomes too. 4. No inspections have been done by the dealer. My independent mechanic is aware of this and directed me to the original recall notice. 5. There are no warning lamps. This has been going on for well over 18 months, maybe longer. I've already spent money with my mechanic on a repair that did not resolve the behavior (at that point, he did not have the recall notice and was doing his own troubleshooting)
