  • ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:PROPULSION SYSTEM:TRACTION BATTERYCampaign 21V560000 · 23/07/2021Park outside

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2017-2019 Chevrolet Bolt EV vehicles previously recalled under NHTSA recall number 20V-701. The high voltage battery could catch fire when charged to full or nearly full capacity.

Risk: A battery fire increases the risk of injury.

Fix: Owners are advised to take the following interim steps: Activate either the Hill Top Reserve (2017 and 2018 models) or Target Charge Level (2019 models) feature in their vehicle to limit the charge level to 90%, charge their vehicle more frequently, avoid depleting the battery to 70 miles range remaining, park outside after charging, and do not charge the vehicle indoors overnight. Defective battery modules will be replaced by GM, free of charge. Interim notification letters notifying owners of the safety risk were mailed on August 13, 2021. Owner notification letters were mailed on August 13, 2021. Owners may contact the Bolt EV Concierge Team at 1-833-382-4389. GM's number for this recall is N212343880.

  • ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:PROPULSION SYSTEM:TRACTION BATTERYCampaign 20V701000 · 13/11/2020Park outside

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling all 2017-2018 and certain 2019 Chevrolet Bolt EV vehicles. The high voltage battery could catch fire when charged to full or nearly full capacity.

Risk: A battery fire increases the risk of injury.

Fix: This recall has been superseded by recall number 21V-560. Vehicles previously repaired under 20V-701 will still need to have the new remedy under recall 21V-560. GM will notify owners, and as an interim repair, beginning on November 17, 2020, dealers will reprogram the hybrid propulsion control module 2 (HPCM2) to limit the full charge to 90%, free of charge. Owners are advised to activate either the Hill Top Reserve (2017 and 2018 models) or Target Charge Level (2019 models) feature in their vehicle to limit the charge level to 90%, or park outside, until the software update is completed. Owners were notified of the interim repair beginning November 17, 2020. The second notice was mailed on May 11, 2021. Owners may contact the Bolt EV Concierge Team at 1-833-382-4389. • LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES:DOORS:LATCHCampaign 20V184000 · 26/03/2020

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2019-2020 Chevrolet Bolt EV vehicles. The door-handle cable inside the rear doors may be too long, allowing contact with the window when it is opened, possibly damaging the cable. A damaged cable may cause the rear door to open unintentionally when the rear window is opened. Additionally, it may cause the rear inside door handle to not work.

Risk: If the rear door opens while driving, or the door handle fails to open the rear door, there is an increased risk of injury to the rear passengers.

Fix: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the rear inside door-handle cables, free of charge. The recall began April 17, 2020. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is A202298320.

FIRE RISK. Chevy Bolts are known and have an active recall on a fire risk. They did one fix, which reduced my vehicle range. It has shown that fix did not work, and they further reduced our range, plus told us not to park inside or charge overnight, which decreases the practicality of the vehicle. As per the recall notice and your website, I am instructed to contact you if the manufacturer has failed or is unable to remedy this safety recall for your vehicle in a timely manner. They have NOT remedied this in a timely manner as it has been since August 2021 that I have been in contact with them to have it resolved, and we agreed to their offer back in October but they have taken no action to fulfill the offer and now it is Dec 2021. Each day is a risk to my family. We have to park both our vehicles in our driveway, and there is an overhanging tree, so if there is a fire it would still be catastrophic.

  • 12/16/2025· STEERING

As with other Chevy bolts, the rack and pinion steering completely broke no longer able to steer vehicle.

  • 12/16/2018· SERVICE BRAKES

THE BOLT EV HAS A DANGEROUS DESIGN PROBLEM WHEN USING REGENERATIVE BRAKING. YOU DON'T HAVE TO USE THE BRAKE PEDAL TO SLOW OR STOP. THE CAR SLOWS IN RELATION TO HOW QUICKLY YOU RELEASE THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE BRAKE LIGHT ONLY COMES ON WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL IS FULLY RELEASED. THE CAR WILL STOP QUICKLY AT THAT POINT WITH THE BRAKE LIGHTS ON DURING THE LAST FEW SECONDS UNTIL AT A FULL STOP, WHEN THE BRAKE LIGHTS TURN OFF. THE VEHICLE REMAINS AT A FULL STOP WITHOUT ANY BRAKE LIGHTS ON ONCE YOUR FOOT IS OFF THE ACCELERATOR. WHEN STOPPED YOU HAVE TO HOLD THE BRAKE PEDAL TO KEEP BRAKE LIGHTS ON TO WARN FOLLOWING CARS. THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED TO GIVE ADEQUATE NOTICE OF CHANGES IN SPEED TO FOLLOWING DRIVERS TO AVOID COLLISIONS.

  • 12/11/2025· STEERING

Steering will not return to center. After going around a turn, or even a curve like an exit ramp, the steering will remain locked in position and not re- center. It requires close attention and considerable force to return it to center and continue along a straight road.

  • 12/03/2021· ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,LANE DEPARTURE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

I made the mistke of purchasing a Chevy Bolt EV in 2019. The cars have been on a recall since 11/2020 for batteries that set fire. Three times Chevy has called my car back to the dealership and done nothing but reduce my battery charge level to 80%. This is not acceptable because the car will no longer cross the Island and return at this level. They kepp saying they will put never batteries int he cars but that started over a year ago and they have done nothing. When I asked them about when the battery swap might happen they tell me they do not know. When I asked if they had Bolts with good batteries that they could swap they said no. I'm being given the run around by GM.

  • 12/02/2022· POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

I'm experiencing the loss of propulsion covered in this bulletin. It's happened around 5 times. https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2020/MC-10176614-9999.pdf The malfunction indicator lamp comes on after each incident and then clears. The problem has been confirmed by a dealer and they are refusing to repair it under either the power train or emission control systems warranty. Losing propulsion is a safety issue, particularly in high speed traffic, and it needs to be fixed.

  • 11/20/2023· STEERING

Our 2019 Chevy Bolt experienced some of kind of steering issue where the car made a "clicking" type of noise when making slight or big turns to the left or the right. We brought the car to our Chevy dealer who diagnosed the issue as a faulty steering gear and tie rod with both parts needing to be replaced. The dealer told us that the Chevy Bolts are known to be "fragile" when it comes to this issue and that hitting a pot hole could cause this level of damage. We could have driven over a pot hole under normal driving conditions but did not have a specific incident in mind that could have caused this. There were no warning lamps or other messaging other than the sound we could hear during turns. While the parts are not that expensive, the labor is - the cost of the repair with the parts is $3,400

Parking brake engages sporadically and automatically and sometime produce loud grinding noise in front of the car. Passenger rear middle seatbelt is not retracting automatically and is not self adjusting. Reverse camera has changed from a full screen view to a smaller screen with wide bars left and bottom of the image that now is hard to see. I believe this changed due to a software update with no warning. Dealer requests me to pay for this issues to be inspected. I believe this are safety concerns and Chevy should recall them.

IN THE EARLY MORNING HOURS OF OCTOBER 21ST, AROUND 3AM, WE WERE WOKEN UP BY SMOKE/FIRE ALARMS. WE STARTED RUNNING AROUND OUR HOME TO IDENTIFY THE CAUSE OF THE ALARM. AFTER ABOUT 5 MINUTES OF SEARCHING INSIDE THE HOME AND FINDING NOTHING, WE REALIZED THAT THERE WAS SOME SMELL OF SMOKE COMING FROM THE GARAGE AND WHEN THE MUDROOM DOOR WHICH LEADS TO THE GARAGE WAS OPENED, WE FOUND THAT THE CHEVY BOLT WAS ON FIRE AND THERE WAS LOT OF SMOKE IN THE GARAGE. THE CHEVY BOLT WAS PARKED/STATIONARY IN DOOR 3 SECTION OF THE GARAGE AND OUR OTHER CAR WAS PARKED IN DOOR 1 SECTION OF THE GARAGE. THE DOOR 2 SECTION OF THE GARAGE WAS EMPTY AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT. WITH CHEVY BOLT ON FIRE, WE SAW THAT THE DOOR 3 SECTION OF THE GARAGE WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES AND FILLED WITH SMOKE. WE TRIED TO USE THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER TO PUT-OFF THE FIRE BUT COULD NOT CONTAIN THE SPREAD OF THE FIRE. THE CHEVY BOLT WAS KEPT FOR CHARGING OVERNIGHT , AS HAS BEEN THE GENERAL PRACTICE THAT WE HAVE BEEN FOLLOWING FOR AROUND 2 YEARS. WE CALLED 911 AS SOON AS WE SAW THE GARAGE IN FLAMES AND FIRE ENGINES ARRIVED WITHIN 15 MINUTES BUT THE FIRE HAD SPREAD WIDELY AND CAUSED RAMPANT DAMAGES TO THE ENTIRE GARAGE INCLUDING THE OTHER CAR, BEDROOM ON THE TOP OF THE GARAGE IN THE SECOND FLOOR AND THE BEDROOM ADJOINING THE GARAGE IN THE FIRST FLOOR. WHILE ALL THE OCCUPANTS OF THE HOME GOT OUT WITHIN AROUND 8 MINUTES OF HEARING THE FIRE ALARM, THE FIRE AND HEAT/SMOKE SPREAD QUICKLY TO WASHER/DRYER SECTION, EAT IN DINING, KITCHEN, FAMILY ROOM AND FORMAL DINING ROOM. THE OTHER SECTIONS OF THE HOME INCLUDING THE FOYER, OFFICE ROOM, SUN ROOM AND ALL OF THE BEDROOMS UPSTAIRS WERE QUICKLY FILLED BY SMOKE AND SOOT. THE HEAT INSIDE THE HOME WAS SO MUCH THAT ONE CAN LITERALLY SEE THE FRAMING STUDS. THE TOWNSHIP FIRE AND POLICE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED PROMPTLY ON THE SCENE AND HAVE BEEN DILIGENTLY FOLLOWING UP ON THE INVESTIGATION.

I AM AN OWNER OF 2019 CHEVY BOLT. I HAD THIS CAR SINCE THE DAY 1, BAUGHT IT BRAND NEW FROM THE DEALERSHIP, AND NOT ONLY WHEN I PURCHASED IT THE DEALER HAD NO PROPER INFORMATION ABUT IT, I HAVE TRIED CONTACTING THE GM CUSTOMER CARE REGARDING THE FIRST, SECOND AND THIRD RECALL. I HAVE ASKED THE GM REGARDING THE RECALL, IF THE RECALL THAT THE DEALER WILL TRY TO FIX WILL NOT SOLVE THE ISSUE, WILL I STILL BE IN THE RISK OF HAVING MY CAR CATCH ON FIRE? CAN THE GM GUARANTEE ME THAT AFTER HAVING ALL OF MY RECALLS DONE PRIOR TO THE FINAL ONE THAT JUST CAME IN THAT THEY HAD FIXED THE ISSUE AND THAT MY VEHICLE IS SAFE NOW CONSIDERING I HAVE A CHILD. THE RESPONSE WAS: " WE CANNOT GUARANTEE THAT TO YOU, BECAUSE WE CAN ONLY TRY AND SEE IF THIS WILL SOLVE THE ISSUE." SO THE ISSUE IS NOT SOLVED, MY VEHICLE IS A DANGER NOT ONLY TO ME BUT TO MY NEIGHBORS AND TO MY FAMILY. FOREMORE, GM DOES NOT WANT TO BUY BACK THE VEHICLE EVEN THOUGH THEY KNOW IT IS THEIR MISTAKE AND IT IS THEIR DEFECT.

The steering wheel does not return to center. This appears to be a common issue on Chevy Bolts based on various forums, for example https://www.chevybolt.org/threads/steering-wont-return-to-center-bad-steering-gear-steering-sticking-in-one-direction.42988/. One has to be very aware of the steering issue as it requires the driver to actively force the steering wheel to return to center. This can be an even bigger issue when having to react to avoid debris or sudden breaking. There are no warning lights. The manufactuer claims that this is not a prevalent issue.

VEHICLE WAS DOING HIGHWAY SPEEDS ON INTERSTATE 81 IN PENNSYLVANIA IN THE LEFT LANE. SUDDENLY, THE VEHICLE MADE A LOUD THUD, FOLLOWED BY RAPID DECELERATION. MANAGED TO BARELY MAKE IT TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER, AND AT THAT POINT THE VEHICLE PUT ITSELF INTO PARK AND REFUSED TO SHIFT INTO DRIVE OR REVERSE. WARNING MESSAGES AND INDICATORS LIT UP ON THE DASHBOARD, AND AN ONSTAR NOTIFICATION EMAIL WAS RECEIVED ON MY PHONE. WAS FORTUNATE TO MAKE IT TO THE SHOULDER, OTHERWISE THE VEHICLE WOULD HAVE BEEN STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY WITH NO WAY TO MOVE IT OFF THE ACTIVE ROADWAY.

  • 10/12/2020· ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

I WAS DRIVING MY CHEVY BOLT AT APPROXIMATELY 40-45 MPH WHEN IT WAS AT ABOUT 50% CHARGE CAPACITY WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR SHARPLY DECELERATED AND WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON SAYING THE CHARGE WAS DOWN TO 0 AND THAT IT NEEDED TO BE RECHARGED IMMEDIATELY. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND CALLED FOR HELP. THERE'S NO WAY THE CAR SHOULD HAVE LOST 50% OF IT'S CHARGE OUT OF NOWHERE LIKE THAT. I WAS NOT ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR OR REGAIN POWER. IT HAS TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER.

  • 10/11/2021· ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

GM recalled Bolt for possible battery fire in 2020 & 2021. At the 2nd recall, I started MSRP Swap with GM. Since GM dragged my case intentionally, I filed BBB auto complaint. Though BBB, GM agreed with MSRP Swap on 9/9 (verbal agreement between BBB & GM). Since then GM has been silent. GM claimed they can't find a dealership to do MSRP Swap. However, as a consumer, this isn't my problem, but GM needs to step up to find a dealership for MSRP Swap. Otherwise, GM's MSRP Swap agreement is useless. Meanwhile, GM recommended Bolt owners to charge up to 90% of battery capacity, maintain battery mileage above 70M, park 50ft from building/other cars, and park open space. The car is basically useless, and we fear our car might burn down our house/life as well as neighbors.

  • 10/08/2022· STEERING

The steering when turning is sticky and making a clicking noise. If you turn it left it really sticks, you have to work to straighten it out. I took the car to the Chevy dealership and they told me this: "Performed diagnostic on the vehicle. Was able to verify customers concern.Found the steering problem is coming from a noise in the steering rack, found that the steering gear needs replacement. Gear #(42353783). Estimate w / labor is $1958.15." Dealer told us it was safe to drive, but this IS a safety issue: we do not feel confident driving this car, the steering is not responsive! Even though the wheels may not fall off, it still remains a steering control issue. Car is out of warranty, but we feel this should be taken care of by Chevy for no charge; it only has 42097 miles on it! Looking on message boards reveals this is not an uncommon issue.

  • 10/08/2022· STEERING

The car's steering system does not return the wheels to straight ahead after going through a turn unless there is significant operator input to the steering wheel. I WAS ATTEMPTING TO CHARGE THIS ELECTRIC CAR AT A GREENLOTS CCS (480VOLT) CHARGER IN KENNEWICK, WASHINGTON. THE CAR WAS PARKED AND TURNED OFF. A BLUE ARC OF ELECTRICITY SHOT OUT OF THE CHARGER PORT ON THE CAR AND CAME WITHIN AN INCH OF MY HAND. I UNDERSTAND FROM PEOPLE WHO KNOW THE SCIENCE OF ELECTRICITY THAT I WOULD HAVE BEEN KILLED IF THE ARC TOUCHED MY HAND. THE SAFETY FEATURES ON THE CAR, THE CHARGER OR BOTH DID NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY. THERE IS NO TIME WHEN AN ELECTRIC CAR SHOULD EMIT A LETHAL ARC OF ELECTRICITY. I DO NOT KNOW IF THE ARC CAME FROM THE BATTERY OF THE CAR OR FROM THE CHARGER, OR BOTH. NEITHER GM/CHEVY NOR THE CHARGER COMPANY ADMITS THERE IS A SAFETY PROBLEM. WITHOUT A THOROUGH SAFETY INVESTIGATION WE CAN'T TELL IF THE PROBLEM IS ALL BOLTS, ALL ELECTRIC CARS, ALL 480V CHARGERS, CCS CHARGERS, GREENLOTS CHARGERS, THE GREENLOT CHARGER IN KENNEWICK, WA, OR THE SPECIFIC CHEVY BOLT THAT SENT OUT THE LETHAL ARC TOWARDS MY BODY. GM has been unable to provide a remedy for GM recall N212343880, NHTSA#21V560 in a timely manner, and has issued recommendations that are impossible for most owners to adhere to. Most recently GM has communicated that owners should park outside 50 feet away from other vehicles and structures. I live in a moderately densely populated area and this is impossible. I can not prevent other drivers from parking near me. GM should be required to buyback vehicles which have a safety defect which they have are unable to repair in a timely manner. Bolt EVs have been under safety recalls for almost a full year now, and no GM action to date has been successful in preventing Bolt fires.

  • 09/16/2021· ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

UNKNOWN I wish to file a complaint against Chevrolet in regards to the Chevy Bolt recall. The new official guidance that states we should not park within 50 feet of another vehicle in my opinion is not realistically feasible and deems my vehicle unusable. I am also concerned this puts the burden of liability on myself if collateral damage does occur in a case of a fire. Below is a Bloomberg article providing further details to the source of my complaint. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-09-15/gm-tells-some-bolt-owners-to-park-50-feet-away-from-other-cars

The Bolt has been recalled for a faulty battery issue, with no known timeline for repair. I have been told not to charge overnight, park indoors, let it drop below 70 miles or charge above 90%, and to park 50 feet away for other cars when charging and not let it charge unsupervised. The guidelines provided by GM are causing the vehicle to be out of service, as they make charging and driving the vehicle impossible.

MY CHEVROLET DEALER IS TAKING THREE WEEKS TO FIX THE ISSUE. CHEVROLET IS NOT ALLOWING THE DEALERS TO KEEP THE REPLACEMENT FUSE IN STOCK, SO YOU HAVE THE CAR INSPECTED, THEN THEY ORDER THE FUSE. IN MY CASE IT TOOK TWO WEEKS FOR THE FUSE TO ARRIVE, ANOTHER WEEK TO AN APPOITMENT. TOTAL OF THREE WEEKS.

  • 09/14/2024· STEERING

The steering wheel is very stiff; if you turn left or right, when you complete the turn, if you were to release the wheel, it does not counter-turn back towards the center. Put differently - in an open parking lot, you could turn the wheel all the way to one side, release the wheel, press the accelerator --- and you'd go in circles. This has been happening for some time, but just recently had it pointed out that it is not normal. I feel its a meaningful safety risk. I researched the issue online and it seems that it is common for this model but GM has been unresponsive.

GOT BRAND NEW VEHICLE ON SEPT 7TH. ON SEPT. 8TH SUFFERED LOSS OF PROPULSION AND INABILITY TO CHANGE GEARS. AFTER DRIVING FOR 20 MINUTES (50%+ CHARGED) WE REACHED OUR DESTINATION. I ATTEMPTED TO SHIFT THE VEHICLE TO R IN ORDER TO PARALLEL PARK, HOWEVER THE VEHICLE WAS STUCK WITH A MESSAGE SHOWING AN INABILITY TO SHIFT. WE TRIED MULTIPLE TIMES TOGGLING THE CAR ON/OFF. AFTER LEAVING FOR 10 MINUTES AND TRYING AGAIN IT WORKED, HOWEVER WITH A SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT ON. WE CONTINUED TO THE GROCERY STORE. AFTER LEAVING THE GROCERY STORE AND DRIVING 10 MINUTES WE SUDDENLY WHILE MOVING GOT A 'LOSS OF PROPULSION" MESSAGE. PRESSING THE ACCELERATION PEDAL DID NOT MOVE THE VEHICLE. WE STRUGGLED TO NAVIGATE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AFTER LOSING TOTAL POWER. WE TRIED AGAIN TURNING THE VEHICLE ON/OFF BEING GREATED WITH INABILITY TO SHIFT MESSAGE. EVENTUALLY AFTER 15 MINUTES IT TURNED ON AND LUCKILY WE WERE BLOCKS FROM A CHEVY DEALER. THIS WAS QUITE TRAUMATIC TO GO THROUGH WITH MY MOTHER-IN-LAW AND PREGNANT WIFE.

COMPLETE POWER FAILURE WITHOUT WARNING. BRAND NEW VEHICLE (82 MILES DRIVEN). OWNED LESS THAN 72 HOURS. CAR WAS DRIVING UP A VERY SLIGHT GRADE AT 35 MPH. DEALER DIAGNOSED IT AS A FAILURE OF AN EATON MANUFACTURED DRIVE MOTOR BATTERY HIGH VOLTAGE MANUAL DISCONNECT LEVER FUSE. FUSE WAS REPLACED AND CAR RUNS. DEALER OFFERED NO EXPLANATION FOR FUSE FAILURE OTHER THAN TO SAY THAT IT WAS PROBABLY A BAD BATCH OF FUSES. IDENTICAL COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN MADE ON 2017 AND 2018 BOLTS SO THE CHANCES OF IT BEING A BAD BATCH ARE VERY SLIM. DEALER ALSO SAID THAT THERE WAS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ON POINT: 18-NA-225. I AM UNABLE TO GET A COPY OF THAT. CHEVROLET CUSTOMER SERVICE (1-800-222-1020) SAYS THAT THERE IS NO LONGER A BOLT/VOLT EXPERT ON STAFF. IT REFERRED ME BACK TO THE TECHNICIAN (JON POWELL, 541-245-2140, MEDFORD, OR). IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THE PROBLEM IS NOT JUST A FAULTY FUSE, IT SEEMS THAT THERE IS AN UNDERLYING PROBLEM WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. DEALER WILL NOT TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK; PREFERS INSTEAD TO HAVE US HAVE 2 MORE COMPLETE POWER FAILURES WITHOUT WARNING BEFORE HE WILL CONSIDER THE CAR A "LEMON" UNDER OREGON'S LEMON LAW. THIS IS AN UNACCEPTABLE RISK.

BRAKING FAILURES. AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE FOR A FEW MILES WITH NORMAL OPERATION OF THE REGENERATIVE BRAKING SYSTEM, THE CAR WAS IN MOTION (ABOUT 45 MPH) WHEN THE CAR'S REGENERATIVE BRAKING SYSTEM WAS REQUESTED BY COMPLETELY REMOVING THE FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR IN "L" MODE (THE "ONE FOOT DRIVING" MODE THAT AUTOMATICALLY BRAKES AS LESS PRESSURE IS APPLIED TO THE ACCELERATOR). THE CAR CONTINUED TO MOVE FORWARD AT FULL SPEED TOWARD A RED TRAFFIC LIGHT AT A NORMALLY BUSY INTERSECTION. AT THAT POINT I VALIDATED THAT THE CAR WAS IN "L" MODE AND DECIDED TO USE THE REGENERATIVE BRAKE PADDLE CONNECTED TO THE STEERING WHEEL. THAT ALSO FAILED TO ENGAGE, AND THE CAR CONTINUED AT FULL SPEED TOWARD TO THE RED LIGHT. AT THAT POINT I ENGAGED THE BRAKE PEDAL BRISKLY AND BARELY CAME TO A STOP BEFORE ENTERING THE INTERSECTION. NEARLY THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED A SECOND TIME ON THE DRIVE BACK ABOUT 5 MINUTES INTO THE DRIVE, AND AFTER THE CAR HAD BEEN RESTING ABOUT 30 MINUTES. THE CAR GAVE NO NOTIFICATIONS OR WARNINGS OF ANYTHING ABNORMAL. MANY DRIVERS OF THE CHEVY BOLT RELY ON THE REGENERATIVE BRAKING SYSTEM NEARLY EXCLUSIVELY FOR ALL BRAKING SCENARIOS. BECAUSE OF THIS, ANY FAILURE CAN RESULT IN AN EXTREME HAZARD TO THE DRIVER AND NEARBY PEDESTRIANS OR VEHICLES. WHEN CONTACTING GM, THEY SAID THAT UNDER SOME CONDITIONS THE REGENERATIVE BRAKING SYSTEM WILL NOT ENGAGE. THEY WILL NOT INVESTIGATE OR FIX THE ISSUE.

Due to the 2 recalls on my car and the expansion of the recall to 2020-2022 Bolts, I have lost all confidence in the safety of my 2019 Chevrolet Bolt. And I have lost complete confidence in Chevrolet's ability to fix this in a timely matter. Since my charger is in my garage, the Bolt is close to the garage (and house) during charging. Plus the main bedroom is above the garage. Even when it is not charging, the Bolt is still very close to my garage, main bedroom, and house. In addition, I live near the mountains in the foothills. It is a high fire danger area. If something happened to the Bolt, it could cause a lot of damage to my neighbors and surrounding area. Given all of this, Chevy should be buying these cars back at a premium to help us buy other cars and "be whole" again. This is an absolutely disaster and bordering on criminal given the number of explosions. How long must be wait until someone gets seriously hurt from this? What if a child is near the car when it burns or, even worse, is in a burning car? If someone gets hurt or dies from this, it is definitely on Chevrolet but also NHTSA for not being more aggressive on getting these cars off the road and out of driveways.

The manufacturer, GM, has failed to remedy this safety recall for my vehicle in a timely manner. The 2019 Bolt EV I purchased from GM presents a real and present danger as a fire risk, while I am being told to limit my vehicle's usage. I cannot easily follow their safety guidelines because this is the only car my family owns -- we cannot simply give up visiting relatives to not deplete the car below 70 miles of range nor can we personally watch the hours it takes to recharge the vehicle outdoors. This renders the vehicle wholly unusable as a modern car that I paid for in a new condition. I do not feel safe putting my daughter in this vehicle, nor parking it in our driveway. In addition, I live in California, and I would be devastated if my vehicle was the cause of a fire in this state. I have called the GM Concierge line 8 different times over the past 8 weeks (I have the records) to attempt a vehicle swap, and every single time after their initial conversation to gather details, GM has not responded to me with any updates. The latest incident was a Bolt EV that exploded in Sacramento. I want a working car, not a lemon waiting to kill me.

I PURCHASED A 2019 CHEVY BOLT ON DEC. 20, 2019. THE CAR HAS ABOUT 7,200 MILES. WHILE I WAS TURNING ONTO A THOROUGHFARE , A WARNING LIGHT SAID THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE HIGH VOLTAGE BATTERY. THIS HAPPENED ON AUG. 6, 2020. CHEVY REPLACED THE BATTERY UNDER WARRANTY. I TOOK THE CAR TO ALFANO CHEVROLET IN SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA WHERE I BOUGHT IT. I MENTION THIS BECAUSE I'VE HEARD OF BOLT BATTERIES CATCHING FIRE OR MELTING RESULTING IIN DESTRUCTION OF THE VEHICLE.

THE LEFT AND RIGHT SIDES OF THE DASHBOARD CONTINUE TO COME LOOSE AFTER MULTIPLE FIX ATTEMPTS FROM THE DEALER. IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT, IF THE AIRBAGS FIRE AND THE A-PILLAR TRIM MOVES OUTWARD THE DASH PARTS MAY BE THROWN AT THE CAR'S PASSENGERS FURTHER INJURING THEM. GM REP STATED THERE IS NO FIX AT THIS TIME AND ALL THE OTHER BOLTS ON THE DEALER'S LOT HAD THE SAME ISSUE SO I WOULD HAVE TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE AN UNSAFE CAR.

  • 08/25/2022· STEERING

My 2019 Bolt has about 38K miles on it. In the past few weeks, the steering has become difficult to use. The steering does not return to center as it should after a turn, creating a potentially dangerous situation. There is also a clicking noise in the steering column. I had it inspected and evaluated at the dealership and was told it needed a new steering rack and a steering shaft coupler, no longer under warranty. Cost estimate about $3,000. A quick online search shows there are many other Bolt owners experiencing similar issues. Yes it is available for inspection. No warning lamps or other symptoms.

Our Bolt seems to have been under recall more than it's not. We've had range subtractions to try to limit the chance of fire for years. Now we have more major range subtractions, can't park it indoors, and can't charge it overnight or unattended. We are also currently at the best temperature for these limits and they are making the vehicle un-drivable due to lack of range and time to charge, these issues will become even worse as the season changes and we start to get colder for winter. We've done all the previous recalls and waited on GM to stop trying to dance around the problem with software and just replace the known parts that have manufactured defects. We feel we've waited long enough and have done all we can to help GM sidestep their known hazard, and the news and recalls get worse and worse. We contacted GM back in July and started our buyback claim, since then sadly GM's reps have stopped responding since late July.

GM keeps sending me letters saying that they still dont have the parts to fix my vehicle The only solution that they provided till now is to park and charge my car in the driveway in the event that the car catches fire it won’t burn the house !!!
