Approximately 3 days later we received word that the transmission needed to be replaced at the cost of 8200.00.

I bought a 2018 Toyota Camry XLE in May 2020. One week after purchase, the vehicle stalled minutes after putting gas. The Check Malfunction Indicator Lamp came on, and the vehicle shut off. The vehicle turned on again after approximately 30 minutes. Eight months later I received a recall notice regarding a fuel pump malfunction. Toyota replaced the low-pressure fuel pump in March 2021. In early November 2021, the same Malfunction Indicator Lamp turned on and the car shut off. I restarted the vehicle and it turned back on. On November 30, 2021, I put gas in the vehicle, and after approximately 5 minutes of driving the Malfunction Indicator Lamp turned on and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle wouldn't turn back on until 20 minutes later. The vehicle was taken in for inspection, but no issues were found. The same Malfunction Indicator Lamp and vehicle stalling continue to occur.

  • 12/19/2025· POWER TRAIN

The automatic transmission has failed. The vehicle exhibits slipping, hard or delayed shifting, intermittent loss of drive, and most critically, the car completely shut off while I was driving on the highway, creating an immediate risk of a serious accident. Hard shifting and gear slipping began approximately 11/04/2025. The transmission warning light hasn't even come on. Sudden hesitation during acceleration or gear changes became increasingly frequent. The most severe symptom occurred when the car completely shut off on the highway which is very dangerous. Toyota Dealer verified the issue and informed me that the has DTCs for Torque Converter failure. Replaced Transmission at a cost of $10,150. . I respectfully request that Toyota consider offering a goodwill reimbursement for the repair of the transmission for my vehicle. Provide guidance to owners of similar vehicles to prevent accidents or injuries. I am very disappointed to have a major transmission failure at this mileage especially with proper care and no signs of abuse and neglect. I strongly believe this should not occur under normal driving conditions and proper maintenance. My check engine light did NOT COME ON

This could have resulted in significant car damage had I driven over a large bump,. The mechanic stated that he had never experienced this in a newer car with so few miles.

  • 12/10/2025· POWER TRAIN

In short: I had a whining noise coming from under my hood, my car was changing gears roughly. When I was driving on I-95 N and my car lost power/ the ability to accelerate on the highway. I had to make my way to the far-right lane and exit the highway. My safety was at risk at this point (no warning lights came on my dashboard). My car lost the ability to drive. I had my car towed to the Toyota dealership. The mechanic recorded a video of my car giving details of the issue (I have the video). My transmission needs to be replaced (internal failure noted by the mechanic), and my car has yet to reach 65,000 miles! This is ridiculous. I seen many complaints on the NHTSA site regarding this vehicle and the transmission. A class action lawsuit needs to take place, and Toyota needs to pay 100% of these repairs. ON 9/29/18, I LEASED A TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID FROM SMITHTOWN TOYOTA. BEGINNING WITHIN THE FIRST FEW MONTH OF HAVING THE CAR, ON MULTIPLE, RANDOM OCCASIONS GASOLINE LEAKED OUT OF MY GAS TANK DOWN THE SIDE OF MY CAR. IT TENDS TO BE WHEN THE CAR HAS BEEN SITTING FOR A PERIOD OF TIME - AFTER WORK, WHEN IT HAD BEEN SITTING FOR >8 HOURS, WHEN I RETURNED HOME FROM A WEEK VACATION, AND OTHER TIMES WHEN IT HAD BEEN SITTING OVERNIGHT IN MY DRIVEWAY. I WOULD SMELL A POWERFUL ODOR OF GASOLINE WHEN I APPROACHED THE CAR, WHICH IS WHAT WOULD MAKE ME CHECK THE GAS TANK AREA. SEVERAL TIMES, I WITNESSED THE GASOLINE RUNNING DOWN THE SIDE OF MY CAR. IN ALL CASES THERE WERE GASOLINE STAINS ON THE PAVEMENT UNDER THE GAS TANK. AND THE SIDE OF MY WHITE CAR HAS A PERMANENT YELLOW STREAK DOWN THE SIDE FROM THE LEAKING GAS. I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP 3 TIMES TO HAVE THEM DIAGNOSE IT, BUT THEY SAID THERE IS NO WAY IT COULD BE HAPPENING WITHOUT THE WARNING LIGHT GOING ON ON THE DASHBOARD BECAUSE IT IS A CLOSED SYSTEM. THEY SAID I MUST BE OVERFILLING MY GAS TANK OR NOT TIGHTENING THE GAS CAP ENOUGH. I HAVE PICTURES OF THE GAS LEAKING OUT AFTER THE CAR SAT OVERNIGHT, AND I HAD ALREADY DRIVEN 120 MILES SINCE MY LAST FILL UP. EVEN AFTER I SHOWED THE PICTURES TO THE SERVICE MANAGER, HE STILL SAID IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE THAT IT WAS HAPPENING. FINALLY, I CALLED TOYOTA'S CORPORATE LINE AND REPORTED IT. THEY HAD ME GO TO ANOTHER TOYOTA SERVICE CENTER, WHERE THEY FOUND THAT THE GAS LINE WAS NOT CONNECTED PROPERLY, WHICH WAS CAUSING THE LEAK. BUT THEY SAID IT WAS FROM WEAR-AND-TEAR FROM FILLING THE GAS TANK, NOT A MANUFACTURER DEFECT (EVEN THOUGH THE CAR HAD <6000 MILES ON IT WHEN THE LEAK WAS DETECTED). THERE IS A RECALL FOR 2018 TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRIDS (J0G) FOR "FUEL DELIVERY PIPES THAT MAY NOT BE PROPERLY CONNECTED TO THE FUEL HOSES IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT". I THINK MY CAR IS AFFECTED BY THIS DESIGN FLAW.

The xle Camry 2018 models moonroof/sunroof, stops working and there is no safety close option for the moonroof. It gets stuck open and the only option to get it to close is a $10,000 repair. I have extended warranty that will cover this plus 14 days of a car rental, but the dealership cannot guarantee when the parts will be in, so I have approximately more than 30 days for my car to be repaired. So I still have to pay more than $1600 for fees plus car rental and no assistance from Toyota. (this is including there is more than 3 cars at the dealership with the same issue).

I have had issues with the breaks since I purchased the vehicle. The first recall I got the vacuum pump replaced. I still have the same issue. I have been having the break issue but recently had an issue slamming on my breaks after someone was coming around the corner too fast in my garage and feeling pushback from the break petal and not breaking fully. I actually did hit her care but she only had scratches and decided not to file a claim (I have the date and pictures as well). I bought this Camry feeling confident and I actually worry about my breaks I even got them replaced thinking they were worn out but I still have the same issue.

The vehicle illuminated the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) and stored DTC P26CB71 – Electric Water Pump Speed Stuck. The dealer confirmed the electric coolant pump actuator is mechanically stuck and requires replacement at a quoted cost of $1,257.81. Toyota official TSB-0323-17 (published December 8, 2017) explicitly states that this exact repair for DTC P26CB71 is covered under the Toyota Federal Emission Warranty for 96 months or 80,000 miles from the vehicle’s in-service date. Despite the vehicle being well within both time and mileage limits, the dealer and EPA both refuse to honor Toyota’s own published 8-year Federal Emissions Warranty, violating 40 CFR §85.2107(a) which mandates that the manufacturer “shall repair or replace” any covered failed emission-related part at no cost to the owner. The failed electric water pump is an emission-related component because its malfunction triggers an OBD-II emissions DTC and can cause elevated emissions due to improper engine temperature control. The part remains installed in the vehicle and is available for inspection. No warning symptoms appeared prior to the MIL illumination.

Panoramic sunroof issues. Sunroof is stuck in the open position. Motor clicks continuously but does not close. Toyota dealership only able to close top portion of sunroof and had to disconnect the motor. Sunroof not used often so this should not have happened, and vehicle is not that old. The cost to repair is outrageous.

THE CAR SHUDDERS AND APPEARS TO ALMOST STALL WHEN IN MOTION. THIS HAPPENS RANDOMLY. IT HAPPENED FROM THE VERY FIRST YEAR IT WAS DRIVEN. ONCE IT ACTUALLY STALLED AT AN INTERSECTION JUST AS THE TRAFFIC LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND I PULLED FORWARD. I HAD NOT BRAKED. THIS CAR HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT.
