  • 12/31/2023· POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE

I purchased a new 2018 Ram Truck with an ECO Diesel engine. The engine has undergone multiple recall repairs including one for the EGR that could cause a potential fire hazard. The truck has been in service for multiple engine related issues since I purchased the vehicle. It has continuously had a rampant smell of antifreeze inside the cab of the vehicle which has made me feel sick on occasions and I must open the windows even in the winter months. After only 66,000 miles my truck suffered a catastrophic engine failure. Although Stellantis replaced the engine under warranty, the new engine only had a 2-year unlimited mileage warranty. 2 years has passed and the warranty is now no longer active and I am personally responsible for any repairs. My truck with the new engine has just over 60,000 miles and is suffering the same issues as the original engine even though it was just fixed for these issues 4,000 miles ago. It again has the smell of coolant and diesel in the cab. The vehicle is dangerous to drive due to throttle control and temporary engine stalls. I have to rely on my children to drive me around, rent a car or use Uber. I have also complained multiple times to Ram service departments that this vehicle loses power and stalls while normal functioning. They keep telling me this is normal function of the engine. There is now a “Loss of Crankshaft Position” recall which also causes a catastrophic engine failure. The fix issued does not save the engine from this catastrophic failure but only allows the vehicle not to stop abruptly at the time of failure. Basically, I am driving a time bomb waiting for a catastrophic engine failure. I understand this engine is being discontinued and I wont even by able to repair this vehicle if something happens again in the future. Currently the vehicle is unoperable.

  • 12/30/2024· ENGINE

Engine started knocking at 65mph. Slowed to find a safe place to pull out of traffic lane. Before pulling over engine stopped but was able to get completely off the road. My safety was not directly at risk but had to wait at the side of the road for 4 hours waiting for tow. The dealer stated they have no idea what failed. The engine has not been inspected. The dealer told me I would have to pay to have it torn apart to find out what failed. There were no warnings except the engine knock. Oil pressure was normal, was not overheating and no check engine light. My safety could have been at risk had I been trying to pull out into traffic. Dealer has been doing all of the scheduled oil changes and inspections. I thought this may have something to do with recall 66A/NHTSA 23V-411. Dealer stated that could not be the reason as that recall fix is a software update?

  • 12/30/2023· SERVICE BRAKES

During a road trip we exited the highway and suddenly we have a flat tire on Front right of vehicle. We saw no object in the tire it was just flat. We change the tire with our spare and got back on the road on the way home. After the first flat the Service Antilock Braking System and alternated to Service Electronic Brake System messages aper as well as the cruse control not working. After driving another 2 1/2 hours at less than posted speed, we had another flat tire out of the blue, so we pulled off the highway. This time it was the Rear Right tire that was flat, and again no object in the tire. Did this issue cause these flats? I checked Ram's forum's and internet to see that this error meant. What I found out is there are thousands of Ram truck having this same issue. In order to fix this issue it would cost over $800 to have parts 68437098AB Module Anti Lock Brake System and 68143491AA Control Anti Lock Brake System replaced. However, I am seeing that many people who had these parts replaced are getting this error again. This could have been a very dangerous issue for me and my family.

Took to a second garage and they replaced right rear ABS sensor. Lights went out for another day and then came back. They are still on. Because of Christmas it's been hard to get anyone to look at it. Also they say this is a known problem without any definite solution.

  • 12/23/2021· VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

Cruise control on 65mph going down hill. Transmission dropped into a lower gear. Vehicle immediately slowed down immediately by probably 20-30 mph. Everything in vehicle was thrown forward. I struggled to keep control and thought I was going to roll and crash off of roadway, or hit another vehicle. This was not a problem for two years, until June of this year. Driven the same stretch of highway a dozen times without incident. 21,000 on vehicle now. I took the RAM tech for a ride to reproduce the incident. Did it on a small hill at 25-30mph and reproduced the problem several times at the same location of the hill. Transmission drops into lower gear, makes a kind of grinding or similar noise. Then it stays in this lower gear straining until the brake is pushed to turn cruise off. Told him of losing control on big hill and nearly crashing. No warning lights or warning of any kind. Their response that a slight speed change is BS. 65mph to 30 or what it was in a couple seconds is not slight. It also states temporary. Even with the tech seeing it, it is not temporary. You have to push the brake to get it back into the right gear. At 30mph on test runs. Losing control of vehicle and they come up with this. You can inspect my vehicle. No sales rep ever mentioned that you shouldn't use cruise control on a hill. What a scam. Not happy with my RAM purchase now.

The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the fuel pump had failed, and that the engine had been contaminated and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V406000 (Fuel System, Diesel), which was performed in 2024. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was no longer covered under warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 118,000.

I would like to see if my repair qualifys for this recall. A costly repair like this on a 6 year old vehicle is financially straining and based on my research this is a common problem and seems to be a manufacturer defect. Safety concern- complete loss of steering while operating on roadway.

When filling up with gas, it will not fill up without the causing the nozzle's safety switch to continually auto shut off(clicking off). Meaning I have to barely squeeze the nozzle so fuel barely flows into the gas cap slot taking 20-30 minutes to fill up because I can not set the lock on the gas pump nozzle to automatic flow. This is happening at all Gas stations so it is not an issue with the shape of a specific stations pump nozzle. The colder the weather the worse this is. Took in to dealer for a maintenance to see if it was just the float, but the stated to me without them further looking into the problem and having to charge me, it appears it could mean a full fuel tank replacement. My truck is only a 2018 and only has 56,000 miles on it so to me this shouldn't be happening. This started last November 2019.

I was driving this [XXX] ecodiesel truck and it threw a rod on a sketchy windy road on a mountain pass. I was told 65 mile tow one way, 90 the other; I chose the former (Liberty Mutual said they’d reimburse $20 of my over $250 tow) thanks again! Not.)). Brought it to Ram in Show Low Arizona, Eric McGraw the service manager was terrific and communicated with me as much as he could. Unfortunately, they said the engine was out of power train warranty (I was at 99,840 miles at time of engine failure), “by time not miles.” I had to call FCA directly and get a [XXX] case manager, Josh who was also stellar in my opinion. 9 weeks; 9 weeks without my truck. That’s 7 total payments for it to what? Sit unfixed while FCA struggled with their top leadership? I bought this [XXX] ecodiesel engine because it was a diesel and diesels are notorious for having higher mileage capability; AND THEN to have everyone at Ram to FCA point fingers, shrug shoulders, and keep me waiting at my own expense; was simply intolerable to me. Luckily, FCA told me Ram would cover %65 of the repair (which is generous, but a slap in the face when I bought a supposed long life diesel from one of the top diesel companies in this country, and then to not cover the whole thing? BEFORE 100k miles?! So I paid $7000 out of pocket for this new engine. There was a lawsuit earlier which details how FCA settled in court over this same model “only 2014-2016 models” supposedly. I am writing to urgently address a safety issue I have encountered with my 2018 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel VIN: [XXX] vehicle, which poses a significant risk to myself and others on the road. I purchased my 2018 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel in 2018. Regrettably, I have faced persistent problems with crankshaft bearing failures, resulting in engine failure on two occasions – first at 70,000 miles and subsequently after another 70,000 miles. Both instances necessitated engine replacements. The location of the truck is Ron Carter Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram League City at Address 3535 Gulf Fwy, League City, TX 77573. During the initial replacement, a rebuilt or used engine was installed per Chrysler's directive, which was stated to carry a three-year warranty. However, despite being within this warranty period, the dealership has declined to honor the warranty claim for the second engine failure. Beyond the financial strain this has imposed on my family, there is a grave safety concern associated with these repeated engine failures. The sudden loss of engine power while driving poses a significant risk on the road, creating unsafe conditions. I have experienced instances where the engine stopped abruptly, causing a near-collision due to the loss of power. I am reaching out to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to highlight this safety issue and to request your urgent assistance in addressing this matter. These repeated engine failures not only jeopardize my safety but also that of other motorists on the road. I implore the NHTSA to investigate this matter promptly to prevent potential accidents and ensure the safety of all drivers who might be affected by similar issues in these vehicles. I am open to providing additional details, and documentation, or participating in any investigations necessary to address this critical safety concern. I can be reached at [XXX] or [XXX] to discuss this matter further. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I have a 2018 Ram, with the 5.7 hemi. I purchased it new in November 2017. I currently have just over 53,000 miles and began to hear a ticking sound on startup that lessened upon driving but never completely gone and could smell exhaust fumes in the passenger compartment. I took this to an independent service center and they reported that two or the rear bolts have broken off that secure the exhaust manifold and the gasket has been damaged. The mechanic states that this is quite common but not a recalled area from the manufacturer. The repair will cost close to $1,000.00 to repair. I do not understand that if this is a common and well known and documented problem and can be a huge safety risk due to the leaking of carbon monoxide into the passenger compartment, why hasn't this t been listed as a safety recall. I now understand that RAM is also discontinuing the production of the 5.7 hemi engine, are these type problems related?
