Touchscreen in vehicle is randomly changing without my touching the screen. This is a well-documented issue in other 2014-2016 Mazdas for which a recall has been previously issued. However, my vehicle also experiences this same issue ("ghost touch") which indicates to me that the problem is not just limited to 2014-2016 vehicles and that my 2018 Mazda should be included in the original recall to replace the defective touchscreen. The random operation of the touchscreen is a safety hazard and should be immediately recalled by Mazda.

The driver side if the door handle metallic wrap has begun peeling, I reached for my door handle and was cut by the wrap as it had torn away from the glued seems. It is small enough to cut my hand but barely visible to the naked eye. I had to put tape over the door handle to prevent further cuts from happening on my fingers. I took 2 photos as soon as the injuries happened and I realized what it was that was causing me to bleed from my scrape. The vehicle currently has a class action suit for the gas fuel pump and i contacted mazda to fix the pump and replace the door handle.

My 2018 Mazda 3 has an intermittent electrical failure on the high-speed CAN network that causes multiple safety-critical systems to fail while driving. When the fault occurs, the dash lights up with warnings for powertrain, ABS/traction, lane departure, collision-avoidance, TPMS, immobilizer, and the check-engine light. The car also hesitates or “lurches” between 15–30 mph during these events. At one point in 2024, the vehicle went into limp mode on the freeway, creating a safety hazard. These failures are intermittent but repeatable. Diagnostic scans from 2023–2025 show multiple U-codes for lost communication between control modules; two later became permanent. The issue appears unrelated to any one component and affects many systems at once. The vehicle has been to every Mazda dealership in the North Texas region (Mesquite, Freeman, Hiley, Norm Reeves, Town North). All performed only basic scans; none completed a full CAN-bus or wiring-harness diagnostic. Town North kept the vehicle for six weeks (Sept–Oct 2025), replaced a coil and spark plugs, performed a camera calibration and a TCM update, but the network failures returned within 38 miles. We sought independent inspection only after dealerships repeatedly refused diagnosis whenever the warning lights were not on at the moment of arrival. In November 2025, a technician found significant internal corrosion inside the negative battery cable; touching the cable reproduced the full failure immediately. The corrosion extends deep into the wire sheathing. This appears to be an electrical defect affecting CAN communication and power/ground integrity. When the fault occurs, multiple safety systems disable at once and the vehicle behaves unpredictably. Mazda Corporate has declined further assistance, and the defect remains unresolved. I am filing this report because this is a recurring safety issue that may affect other vehicles of the same model and year.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The high-pressure fuel pump failed. This component failure prevents the car from starting or staying running. The check engine code confirmed the high-pressure fuel pump failure. The failed component is currently at the Mazda dealership and is available for inspection upon request. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk The car suddenly stalled while driving on the roadway, creating a dangerous situation. If this had happened on the freeway or in fast-moving traffic, it could have led to a serious accident. Losing power and control of the vehicle at higher speeds poses a major safety risk to both the driver and surrounding vehicles. I was fortunate that the failure occurred on a city street rather than on the freeway. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes. The Mazda dealership inspected the vehicle and confirmed that the high-pressure fuel pump had failed, which was also verified by the check engine code. This failure caused the stalling and starting issues. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others? The vehicle was inspected by an authorized Mazda dealership, which diagnosed and confirmed the high-pressure fuel pump failure. It has not been inspected by police or insurance representatives. Were there any warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Before the final failure, the car was hesitant to start, and after it stalled, the check engine light appeared. There were no prior warning messages or signs before the car suddenly stalled while driving. Additional details: The car is only seven years old with approximately 52,000 miles, and it is concerning that such a critical component would fail this early.

I HAD A SCARY SAFETY ISSUE WITH MY 2018 MAZDA 3 YESTERDAY. I HAD LEFT THE CAR RUNNING SO THAT MY DOG WOULD HAVE A/C. MY CAR IS HAS STANDARD TRANSMISSION. I PULLED UP THE EMERGENCY BRAKE BUTTON BUT AS I WAS EXITING THE CAR MY DOG ACCIDENTALLY PUT HER PAW ON THE EMERGENCY BRAKE BUTTON AND THE CAR STARTED GOING BACKWARDS. THANK GOODNESS I WAS ABLE TO REACH IN AND PULL THE EMERGENCY BRAKE BUTTON BACK UP. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A TRAGEDY, NOT ONLY POTENTIALLY DAMAGING MY CAR AND OTHER PEOPLE'S PROPERTY BUT GOD FORBID MY CAR ROLLED INTO A PERSON. THIS EMERGENCY BRAKE IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD. I HAVE LEFT MY CAR IN NEUTRAL WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ENGAGED MULTIPLE TIMES SINCE I GOT THE CAR LAST DECEMBER AND AM VERY LUCKY THIS INCIDENT DIDN'T OCCUR WHEN I WASN'T SO CLOSE TO MY CAR. THE CAR SHOULD HAVE A SENSOR OR SAFETY FEATURE OF SOME SORT THAT WOULD REQUIRE THERE TO BE A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF WEIGHT IN THE FRONT SEAT THAT PREVENTED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE FROM DISENGAGING. IN PRIOR CARS WITH A NORMAL EMERGENCY BRAKE THAT IS EITHER ENGAGED ON THE FLOOR OF THE CAR OR PULLED UP MANUALLY NEAR THE GEAR SHIFT THIS WOULD NEVER HAPPEN. MY DRIVER SIDE DOOR WAS OPEN. THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. THIS CAN'T BE THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED AND IT COULD VERY EASILY HAVE DEADLY CONSEQUENCES. I KNOW THAT MANY PEOPLE WILL LEAVE THEIR A/C OR HEAT RUNNING WHILE THERE IS A HUMAN OR DOG IN THE CAR WHEN THEY HAVE TO STEP OUT OF THE CAR TO GET THE MAIL, PUT SOMETHING ELSE IN THE CAR, ETC. IN A CAR WITH STANDARD TRANSMISSION, THE ONLY WAY TO LEAVE THE A/C OR HEAT RUNNING IS TO LEAVE THE CAR IN NEUTRAL.

To Whom It May Concern: On Sunday October 2, 2022, while driving in very rainy conditions caused by Hurricane Ian, my windshield wipers failed. On Monday, October 3, 2022, I took the car to an independent mechanic at Chesapeake Import Services in Annapolis, MD. The auto mechanic ran a diagnostic test on my vehicle to discover an electric malfunction caused by a defective relay. This is the same issue that is noted as part of the recall that has already been identified here: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2019/RMISC-19V272-0572.pdf. Unfortunately, my VIN does not fall into the recalled VINs. I am requested that you review and expand the recall to include additionally impacted vehicles, and this issue seems to be significantly more widespread that originally noted. I have contacted Mazda, and they are refusing to take responsibility for this faulty part, as it's not part of the original recall. I have documentation from the mechanic regarding the diagnostic, and they are willing to speak on my behalf regarding their findings on my vehicle. Please contact me ASAP to review the issue. I am currently not able to drive my car due to the safety issues involved with having inoperable windshield wipers. Thank you for your attention.

The vehicle was then towed to the dealer, who determined that there was no oil in the engine. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 105,000.

I was parked in a downtown garage, and the vehicle would not start after many attempts, after about 45 minutes of trying (waiting 5 minutes between tries). The engine would turn normally and sounded like it was trying to start, but didn't fully engage. It finally did after 45 mins, and I drove it to the local Mazda dealer in Honolulu. I noticed the check-engine light was on at that time (but not before the incident). They ran a diagnosis, and couldn't replicate the issue, and said it may be a battery problem with low voltage, due to the engine's error codes. But I questioned that since the engine was able to turn normally and adequately at all starting attempts. And the battery was only 2 years old. So I replaced the battery at their recommendation. About 2 hours after picking up the car from the dealer, the same issue happened again. I recorded the issue on my phone this time, and gave it to the dealer. And this time I didn't want to chance it, so had the car towed back to the same dealer. They couldn't replicate the issue immediately, but after several attempts (over a day), they finally experienced it. They said the issue is the fuel pump. I am the original owner, and had purchased the car new from a Mazda dealership, and it has less than 26K miles on it. I researched previous recalls with this same issue on Mazdas, even the same year and model, and it appears to related: [XXX] [XXX] No one was physically harmed due to this issue, but it was certainly a safety risk. If the fuel pump fails while driving, the driver could lose control of the vehicle while in motion. I have attached the invoices for the repairs. I have contacted Mazda Customer Experience and they assigned a case number # [XXX]. However, I was informed that the repairs are unlikely to be covered as there is no open recall on the VIN regarding this issue. Thank you. I HAD TO WAIT ON THE SHOULDER UNTIL THE RAIN STOPPED, TRIED CALLING ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE BUT THE RAIN EASED. THE REAR BUMPER OF THE VEHICLE GOT DAMAGED BECAUSE OF THE WIPERS FAILURE, HOWEVER THE SAFETY CONCERN COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE SUCH AS THE VEHICLE GETTING ME INTO MAJOR ACCIDENT WHERE MORE THAN ONE CAUSALITY COULD HAVE OCCURRED. The touchscreen has started to exhibit similar issues as seen in previous recalls for the Mazdas. Commonly known as "ghost touch," the screen receives erroneous inputs, causing settings to change or unwanted functionality to start/stop. Depending on the active screen, the system will exhibit different behavior. In my case, the discoloration is directly at the 6 o'clock position. Whatever application button is there is the one that will be triggered. On a Bluetooth connection, that is the random button. On the AM or FM application, that is the seek button. On the settings menu, that could be any number of important things, including safety systems' settings including the ability to disable traction control. You can see on the display where it has been overheated and is discolored. This is the same location that the "ghost touches" occur. It is intermittent, but occurs more frequently as the unit heats up or after the car warms in an parking lot.

This is related to the existing recall with the backup camera. I have intermittently experience, fuzzing of the review camera. I have also experienced total loss of the review camera. In addition, I have had occasionally experienced the panel system not switching over to the rear view camera. The issues appear to be associated with opening and closing the rear hatch and if occurred could sometimes be resolved by turning the car off and back on. The issue was persistent and occurring on a more or less regular basis, but then in the last month it has ceased to occur though I have been opening and closing the hatch on a regular basis... I had been avoiding opening and closing the hatch to avoid losing the camera :( I am concerned that due to the intermittent nature of the failure that when I take the vehicle in under the recall that it will not occur and the dealership will consider the matter closed even if it reoccurs later. In 2023, the reverse camera would either flicker or completely shut off (displaying a blank screen) while the reverse gear is engaged. While reversing the vehicle to park onto the property the rear camera image failed to display in the vehicle, leading to a collision with the curb. The limited visibility out of the rear windshield for the Mazda 3 leads to a typical driver relying on the camera display to show obstructions not visible through the rear and side mirrors. This failure lead to the car impacting the curb and the passenger being shocked that the car was in an accident. If that was child or small animal, they would have been hit or run over. Luckily, this failure only resulted in property damage, a large dent in the bumper, and possible exhaust damage (see attached). A recall notice for this known Mazda camera issue was sent out in the mail by the manufacturer at the end of 2023. Mazda failed to address the issue when inquired over the phone, instead stating they "Would be in contact once a solution was found." Mazda did not reach out or notify me at any point with a solution until the incident above occurred. After contacting Mazda by phone to address the issue, they said there is still no solution found but to take the vehicle down for a diagnostic test that would be the owner's responsibility to pay for if it was found to be a "owner issue". After a brief discussion and multiple phone calls, Mazda stated they would make the repair as it was confirmed to be a Mazda issue that had just been solved. However, the car would need to be kept over the weekend and a loaner vehicle would be provided. Mazda also stated the collision was a driver issue and Mazda will not be responsible for anything that occurs while using the vehicle. At that point, the dealership was unwilling to assist me and I left. This seems to be a Mazda originating issue, if the rear camera functioned as intended, the curb would have been visible and the impact could have been avoided.

The radio has a ghost touch that continues to beep and change noise levels without being able to control the radio. This is distracting and is a danger to have this occur while trying to focus on driving.

WHEN I LET OFF OF THE ACCELERATOR IT STILL MAINTAINS THE SPEED IT WAS GOING BEFORE I LET OFF THE ACCELERATOR. THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT'S HOW ITS DESIGN. HE EVEN TOOK IT FOR A RIDE AND SAID SEE IT STILL KEEPS THE SPEED I SAID ITS NOT CRUISE CONTROL. I HAD CONTACTED THE DEALER AND MAZDAUSA. MAZDAUSA IGNORES ME. I JUST NEED TO GET THIS FIXED BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT. WHEN I GO TO PASS IT STAYS FOR A WHILE AT THE SPEED I HIT BEFORE I RELEASE THE ACCELERATOR.

Front windshield wipers for my 2018 Mazda 3 stopped working without any warning while driving on the highway under heavy rain fall. I recently read online about a faulty wiper motor relay but I have not received any information from Mazda 3 about this.

There is a infotainment display that sits on the center part of the dash that has touch screen capability that over time starts to fail and results in what is known as "ghost touch", where random screen settings change as though someone is using the touch screen on the infotainment screen. I had issues to where settings for screen brightness have changed causing my ability to see the controls being hindered and the radio sometimes turning up loudly and then off causing a scare distraction while driving. This screen is also used for the back up camera. There is currently a class action lawsuit for this.

I have a 2018 Mazda 3. On two occasions in the span of one month, my car has acted like it was going to stall out when I was stopping at a red light. It doesn’t stall out, but the car will idle like it’s about to stall. When starting the vehicle it is kind of sluggish at times. Battery has been tested and it is fine. I’ve had the car for five years and it has 60,000 miles on it. No issues until recently.

MY CAR AUTOMATICALLY APPLIES ITS BRAKES WHEN IT SHOULDN'T BE. I WAS DRIVING AT A SPEED OF AROUND 60 MPH FOLLOWING A PICKUP TRUCK. THE TRUCK STARTS FLASHING TO TURN RIGHT, I STARTED TO BRAKE A LITTLE, MY SPEED WAS REDUCED TO AROUND 40-45 MPH... JUST WHEN I WAS READY TO HIT THE GAS PEDAL AGAIN, BECAUSE THE TRUCK HAS FULLY COMPLETED HIS TURN ( WAS ALL THE WAY ON THE OTHER STREET)... MY MAZDA 3 2018 HIT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO SLOW THE CAR REALLY FAST TO AROUND 10 MPH !!! THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO RISK OF A CRASH, MY GIRL FRIEND WAS IN SHOCK, SHE DIDN'T UNDERSTAND WHAT HAPPENED. SORRY IF MY ENGLISH IS NOT SO GOOD, I USUALLY SPEAK FRENCH !!! THE CAR HAVE ONLY 2000 MILLES, I BOUGHT IT NEW ON MARCH 2020... JUST BEFORE COVID-19 !!!
- 06/27/2023· FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
I have a 2018 Mazda 3 hatchback 2.5l with a faulty fuel pump. I bought the car 1 year old with 2k mikes on it in 2019 from Jake Sweeney Mazda in Cincinnati ohio. They tell me the issue with power loss and stalling I need a new fuel pump it's failing cost is $1600 to repair. Then I learn a few days later on my own 121,000 2018-2109 Mazda 3 and others were recalled due to a faulty fuel pump with the exact problem I have manufactured by Denso. But I'm told my vin # isn't on the recall. The Denso fuel pump is the brand. However no one at the dealership in Cincinnati or Columbus ohio will tell me what type of fuel pump I have. When I went to the Columbus dealership I believe called Byer Mazda they told me an upgrade was done (which never happened) to my fuel pump. Unless Mazda stole my car and returned it no work was ever done on my fuel pump. Only oil changes. Could an upgrade NOT performed and my Vin was marked as upgraded but wasn't? Why do I have a faulty fuel pump withBthe EXACT symptoms on the EXACT model or EXACT year of my Mazda.. NO ONE at Mazda will tell me what brand fuel pump was manufactured in my car. Neither the dealerships or the 800# I call can saY what fuel pump was manufactured in my car. But they can say what was recalled based on vin#. The car just turned 5 years old and shouldn't need a new fuel pump. Isn't this all a little suspicious especially since they cannot conveniently for them say what manufacturer fuel pump is in my car. The car has lost all power and stalls. What happens when I pay the $1600 and the fuel pump is the Denso that is faulty. What then? No one will help. All of this is fishy as can be especially cause I own the EXACT YEAR BRAND AND MODEL WITH THE EXACT PROBLEM THE OTHERS WERE RECALLED FOR. Please say to yourself this is a little fishy and ask questions instead of going by a computer. As a human being look at this as highly coincidental and needs looking into instead of dismissing me.
