WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN REVERSE, WHETHER STATIONARY OR MOVING, SOMETIMES THE PARKING ASSIST GRID LINES DO NOT SHOW UP AT ALL ON THE SCREEN THAT YOU ARE LOOKING AT WHICH ARE SUPPOSED TO HELP YOU WHEN YOU ARE BACKING THE VEHICLE UP. THE GRID LINES LET YOU KNOW HOW FAR TO KEEP BACKING UP, IF YOU ARE GOING STRAIGHT OR AT AN ANGLE, LET YOU KNOW WHEN YOU SHOULD STOP BACKING UP, ETC. THIS MEANS YOU ARE NOT EXACTLY SURE WHEN YOU SHOULD STOP & SOMETIMES YOU HIT THE CURB BEHIND YOU WITH YOUR WHEELS OR IN MY CASE, I HIT OUR BACKYARD FENCE. I ALSO COULDN'T TELL THAT I WAS AS CLOSE TO A PARKED CAR AS I WAS OR THAT I DID NOT PULL INTO A PARKING SPACE STRAIGHT. I'VE EMAILED JEEP SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE PAST 2 YEARS & JOINED SEVERAL ONLINE BLOG GROUPS & JEEP KEEPS TELLING US JEEP OWNERS THEY WILL BE PUTTING OUT A UCONNECT UPGRADE WHICH SHOULD FIX IT BUT WE'VE BEEN WAITING OVER 2 YEARS NOW & NOTHING HAS HAPPENED.

I RECENTLY HAD A LOCAL JEEP DEALER INSTALL A MOPAR FACTORY 2" LIFT KIT ON MY 2018 JEEP WRANGLER RUBICON A FEW WEEKS AGO. SINCE THE 2" LIFT WAS INSTALLED, WHEN THE JEEP HITS A HIGHWAY BREAK, BUMP/POTHOLE, ANYWHERE BETWEEN 30MPH UP TO NORMAL HIGHWAY SPEEDS, I GET THE "DEATH WOBBLE" IN THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE VEHICLE SHAKES VIOLENTLY. THIS JEEP STILL HAS THE FACTORY ORIGINAL TIRES AND RIMS INSTALLED, AND HAS NO OTHER ADD-ONS TO THE VEHICLE. I HAVE TO SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN TO 25 MPH FOR THE DEATH WOBBLE TO STOP. I TRAVELED 35 MILES A FEW DAYS AGO ON A STATE HIGHWAY AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 40-65 MPH, IN 32 DEGREE TEMPS, AND THE VEHICLE WENT INTO A "DEATH WOBBLE" (7) TIMES, FIVE OF WHICH I HAVE ON VIDEO FOR THE UPCOMING LAWSUITS. IT APPEARS MORE VULNERABLE TO A DEATH WOBBLE IF THE FRONT DRIVERS WHEEL HITS A BUMP OR POTHOLE FIRST. ADDITIONALLY IT APPEARS TO ENTER INTO A DEATH WOBBLE MORE EASILY IF YOU ARE ON A CURVE IN A LEFT HAND DIRECTIONAL TURN. ALL KNOWN RECALLS HAVE BEEN PERFORMED TO THIS VEHICLE THAT I KNOW OF, TO INCLUDE THE UPDATED WORK AND INSPECTION TO THE STEERING STABILIZER DAMPENER/SHOCK. SOMEONE IS GOING TO DIE FROM THIS ISSUE IF IT IS NOT FIXED IF THEY HAVEN'T ALREADY, EITHER THE DRIVER OF THE JEEP, OR A UNWITTING PARTY IN ONCOMING TRAFFIC, ESPECIALLY IF THIS HAPPENS ON AN ICE COVERED ROAD! I HAVE VIDEOS OF THE DEATH WOBBLE, BUT NO PHOTOS, WHICH ARE ALL THAT ARE ALLOWED FOR POSTING ON THIS WEBSITE FOR THIS COMPLAINT. I WOULD BE HAPPY TO SHARE THE VIDEOS WITH NHTSA INVESTIGATORS IF THEY WISH TO CONTACT ME.

THERE IS CONSTANT CORRECTING AND IF THE ROAD ISN'T PERFECTLY FLAT, YOU'LL HAVE TO HOLD THE STEERING WHEEL AT THE 10:00 OR 2:00 TO KEEP THE VEHICLE STRAIGHT. EXTREMELY UNSAFE. THE DEALERSHIP AT FIRST WAS "SURPRISED" TO HEAR OF THE PROBLEM BUT FINALLY SAID IT WAS A KNOWN ISSUE. THEY REPLACED THE STABILIZER ROD. IT JUST HAPPENED AGAIN 1 WEEK AFTER THE FIX. ~6,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. IT SOUNDS LIKE THE KNOWN "DEATH WOBBLE" I AM NOW FINDING DESCRIBED BY A LOT OF OTHER PEOPLE. *DT CONSUMER STATED DEALERSHIP FIXED THE PROBLEM ON THE SECOND TRY.*JB

I NEED TO TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE GAS, GET INTO THE BREAKDOWN LANE AND GO DOWN TO CLOSE TO ZERO MPH BEFORE THE SHAKING STOPS, THEN I NEED TO RE-MERGE INTO TRAFFIC. VERY SCARY (I USUALLY HAVE FAMILY IN CAR WITH ME) AND VERY DANGEROUS. IT'S IN THE SHOP NOW. PARTS ARE ON BACKORDER AND THEY WON'T RELEASE IT TO ME UNTIL ITS FIXED--I PRESUME B/C ITS TOO DANGEROUS. Problem Description (very important): My 2018 Jeep Wrangler experiences a severe and violent front-end shaking commonly referred to as “death wobble.” This occurs while driving at highway speeds and makes the vehicle difficult to control until I slow down significantly. The shaking feels dangerous and unpredictable and creates a serious safety risk. I transport my children in this vehicle, and this issue is frightening and unsafe for passengers and other drivers. My dealership states there is no recall, but I am aware of widespread consumer complaints, documented defects, and lawsuits involving death wobble in Jeep Wranglers, including the 2018 model year. I believe this is a known steering/suspension defect and not normal wear and tear. I am reporting this for safety reasons.

  • 12/29/2021· STEERING,UNKNOWN OR OTHER

I'm describing this is a steering problem, but it may easily include suspension as well. I've experienced the so-called death wobble several times since buying this Jeep. I had chalked it up as being part of having 4WD (though operating in 2WD), but I never had this problem with a much older Jeep, and it doesn't seem like it should be acceptable. Twice on this day traveling around 60 MPH, the steering began to shake with the whole vehicle wobbling. I was able to stop it after slowing down below about 40 MPH or so. I haven't found a common culprit, though it's been triggered by hitting bridge expansion joints on the highway... particularly if I'm not going perfectly straight. I'm fearful of driving over 55 MPH, and I don't think that's acceptable. While I kept control, I don't know if that will always happen. I fear losing control and possibly rolling over. It has not been reproduced or confirmed. It has not been inspected. No warning lamps or messages showed.

ON 15+ DIFFERENT TIMES (IT DOES NOT MATTER IF I AM DRIVING ON A HWY 70MPH, SECONDARY ST'S 40MPH, 5-LANE ST'S AT 50MPH, OR WHILE DRIVING IN A SUBDIVISION AT 25MPH), JUST TRYING TO TURN MY JEEP BECOMES A HUGE CHALLENGE, EVEN ON A GOOD DAY! I BELIEVE THAT MY ELECTRIC POWER STEERING IS ALSO DEFECTIVE TOO, THE STEERING WHEEL VIOLENTLY JERKS ME INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC, & INTO OTHERS LANES WITHOUT ANY WARNINGS! I FINALLY CONTACTED 'SYNERGY MANUFACTURING' WHO TOLD ME THAT ALL OF THE STEERING COMPONENTS ON THE JL'S ARE NOTHING BUT CHEAP GARBAGE, THAT ALL NEEDS TO BE REPLACED! THEY HAVE A REPLACEMENT KIT, WHICH FIXES THE PROBLEMS, FOR LESS THAN $1,200! WHICH SOUNDS LIKE A BARGAIN, IF IT MEANS THAT MY FAMILY REMAINS SAFE, COMPARED TO BEING KILLED IN YET ANOTHER FCA DEATH TRAP! ALSO, ONE'S FIRE RETARDANT BLANKET (UNDER THE HOOD), IS FALLING APART! I ONLY HAVE 1,800 ORIGINAL MILES ON IT, ITS NEVER EVEN BEEN OFF ROAD YET! I'VE GONE TO 7 DIFFERENT JEEP DEALERS, & NOBODY HAS ANY NEW REPLACEMENT PARTS, & ALL OF THEIR CUSTOMERS NEED TO GET IN LINE BEFORE THEY SHALL EVEN LOOK AT MY JEEP! I WOULD EXPECT A FLAWLESS RUNNING & DRIVING JEEP JL WRANGLER UNLIMITED RUBICON, AFTER SPENDING WELL OVER $60,000!!! CAN YOU PLEASE HELP ME? ALL ONE HAS TO DO, IS SEARCH ANY OF THE JEEP JL FORUMS, SEARCH YOUTUBE, E.G., & ONE SHALL SEE THOUSANDS OF EXACTLY THE SAME COMPLAINTS! NEVER AGAIN FCA, YOU LOST ME AS A CUSTOMER, ITS A MIRACLE THAT MY FAMILY & I AREN'T DEAD!!!

VIOLENT SHAKE IN STEERING WHEEL AND THE BEGINNING OF LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. SPECIFICALLY AT HIGHWAY SPEED WHEN YOU DRIVE OVER A BUMP SUCH AS A BRIDGE EXPANSION JOINT, THE STEERING WHEEL WILL BEGIN SHAKING BACK AND FORTH VIOLENTLY. THIS RESONATES THROUGHOUT THE VEHICLE. IT CAN CONTINUE FOR IN EXCESS OF 15 SECONDS AND I NEED TO REDUCE THE JEEP'S SPEED TO LESS THAN 40MPH, AT WHICH TIME THE SHAKING GENERALLY STOPS. SLOWING TO 40MPH IN HIGHWAY TRAFFIC IS DANGEROUS TO ME AND OTHERS ON THE HIGHWAY. IF IN A LOW TRACTION SITUATION (SUCH AS SNOW) THIS WOULD LIKELY RESULT IN TOTAL LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE JEEP. THIS HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER 3 TIMES FOR THIS PROBLEM. BECAUSE THE DEALER IS LOCATED IN A RURAL AREA THEY HAVE BEEN UNWILLING TO DRIVE TO A HIGHWAY AND THEREFORE HAVE NOT REPLICATED THE PROBLEM. THE LAST TIME I WENT TO THE DEALER I SHOWED THE DEALERSHIP MANAGER A VIDEO OF THIS OCCURRING, AND HE WAS APPALLED AND SAID IT SHOULD NOT HAPPEN AND THAT I SHOULD CALL JEEP CUSTOMER CARE WHICH I DID. I HAVE CALLED ON DECEMBER 1,12,19,26 AND 27. THE CASE HAS BEEN ASSIGNED TO A CASE MANAGER, BUT THEY HAVE NOT CALLED ME. I HAVE ATTEMPTED TO ESCALATE TO A MANAGER, BUT I HAVE TOLD THEY ARE BUSY AND NOTHING THEY CAN DO, JEEP HAS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE WITH MY CAR AND THEY HAVE TO DATE REFUSED TO EVEN CALL ME BACK ( I HAVE ALSO CONFIRMED MY PHONE NUMBERS EACH TIME I HAVE CALLED AND HAD THEM RECORDED IN THE CASE RECORD).

DRIVING IN A WYOMING SNOW STORM, OUR LED HEAD & DRIVING LIGHTS COMPLETELY ICED OVER -- AFTER CLEANING THEM A BIT, THEY ICED AGAIN. SAYING THIS WAS A PROBLEM IS A UNDERSTATEMENT! WE HAVE OWNED A JK 2014 & 2017 WITH REGULAR LIGHTS & NEVER HAD A PROBLEM. NOT SURE WHAT WE'RE GOING TO DO --

  • 12/26/2025· FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

The vehicle experienced a fuel/propulsion failure involving sudden loss of engine power. After internal engine repairs performed by the dealership (camshaft and valvetrain work), the vehicle was returned to me as repaired and safe to operate. Within minimal post-repair driving (less than one mile), the vehicle entered limp mode, lost propulsion, and the engine shut down while driving in active traffic. The vehicle required towing back to the dealership. The loss of propulsion occurred on a busy city roadway and created an immediate safety risk to me and surrounding motorists due to the sudden inability to maintain speed or power, with a foreseeable risk of collision. The problem has been confirmed by the dealership. After subsequent inspection and teardown, the dealer documented catastrophic internal engine damage, including cylinder wall scoring and a failed head gasket. The dealership acknowledged that deeper inspection during the prior internal engine repair would have revealed the need for engine replacement. The vehicle has been inspected by the dealership multiple times and by the dealership’s insurer. The manufacturer (Stellantis) has opened a customer care case. The vehicle is currently available for inspection and has been removed from service due to safety concerns. Prior to the failure, the vehicle displayed warning indicators and messages at the time of the incident, including limp mode activation and critical alerts immediately before and during the shutdown. No warnings were provided to me at the time the vehicle was returned from repair regarding unresolved internal engine risk or potential loss of propulsion.

  • 12/26/2020· STEERING

STEERING BECOMES VERY TIGHT AND SEEMS TO LOCK UP WHEN ATTEMPTING TO TURN LEFT WHILE DRIVING. THEN WHEN IT RELEASES IT CAUSES THE CAR TO OVER STEER SOMETIMES INTO ON COMING TRAFFIC. THIS HAPPENS BOTH OF LOCAL ROADS AND HIGHWAYS.

Clutch flywheel/ transmission issue. 2nd time in 3 months. The other night when it happened I was on a back road and had been in 4th gear for at least 10 minutes, and going approx 38 MPH. It was cold out. The vehicle decided to only rev as if in neutral when I depressed the gas pedal. I immediately pulled over and saw sparks and smoke again before quickly shutting her down. This time I not only felt that same thud, but also what felt like a cable and a spring break loose. The clutch was at half mast with some resistance left to it.

STEERING AND CONTROL DRASTICALLY IMPAIRED WHEN HITTING A BUMP OVER 50 MPH. CAR AND STEERING WHEEL VIOLENTLY SHAKE AND CAUSES ME TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. CAR IS STOCK WITH 0 MODIFICATIONS AND LESS THAT 700 MILES ON IT. WHOEVER SAYS THIS IS NOT A SAFETY CONCERN IS WRONG. I NEARLY CRASHED ON THE HIGHWAY GOING 55 MPH. FAMILY WILL NOT DRIVE WITH ME IN THE CAR ANYMORE DUE TO ISSUE. THIS IS A BRAND NEW CAR. HOW CAN THIS BE JUSTIFIED?

The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the local dealer to be repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V116000 (Power Train). The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that after retrieving the vehicle, the vehicle intermittently failed to start. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed back to the local dealer and the contact was informed that a diagnostic test needed to be performed; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.

I'VE HAD THREE RUBICONS IN THE PAST AND THE STEERING ON MY NEW 2018 RUBICON JL UNLIMITED IS HORRIBLE. THE CAR WANDERS LEFT AND RIGHT, THERE IS MUCH TOO MUCH PLAY IN THE STEERING WHEEL. IT FEELS VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THE CAR STEERING IS VERY UNSTABLE, YET THEY DON'T KNOW HOW TO FIX IT. IT HAPPENS CONSTANTLY. BUT THE FASTER YOU GO THE MORE UNSTABLE IT FEELS. IT HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE I PURCHASED IT.

  • 12/22/2022· STEERING

Steering Dampening system keeps failing causing the known effect called the "Death Wobble" as the Jeep Wrangler will violently shake at certain speeds or after hitting a bump int he road. The dealer has fixed the problem Twice and now the vehicle is back in the dealer with being fixed for the third time. The dealer is telling us that it is out of the warranty period and will cost $3,200 to repair. This is unacceptable for jeep to have failed the first 2 times to repair the issue. This is a big safety issue as when we are driving down a highway the jeep will start to violently shake and we have to slow down to under 40 mph to gain control which is a major hazard to other driver safety as well as our own safety. The steering damper was replaced at 5,000 miles and then again at 18,000 miles. The car currently has 30,300 miles on it.

when going over rough road or bumps, potholes etc there is a loud noise under the front of the Jeep. Steering is effect at times by shaking. Upon inspection by mechanic was told the tie rods were the culprit and would need to be replaced. Was also told that these parts are not lasting long on the newer Jeeps. 2018 Jeep Wrangler JK Sport with 36000 miles. Was told by mechanic that it will take 1.5 - 2 months to get parts due to there already being over 2300 orders for the parts.

WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME STIFF FOR ABOUT A COUPLE OF SECONDS,WHEN IT GOT BACK TO NORMAL IT CORRECTED INTO INCOMING TRAFFIC, I NEARLY HIT INCOMING TRAFFIC,IT WAS PRETTY SCARY CAUSE THE STEERING WAS VERY HARD AND STIFF , I WAS TRYING TO CORRECT THE VEHICLE CAUSE IT WAS MOVING TOWARDS THE LEFT EVEN THOUGH I WAS TRYING TO CORRECT IT TO THE RIGHT, WHEN IT LOOSENED UP IT JERKED HARD TO THE LEFT TO INCOMING TRAFFIC,THANKFULLY THERE WAS NO INCOMING TRAFFIC AT THE TIME, ALSO I NOTICED THAT WHEN I PUT THE TRANSMISSION IN GEAR THERE'S NO MOVEMENT, IT ACTS LIKE IT'S IN NEUTRAL, I HAVE TO PUT IT BACK IN PARK AND RESHIFT

SATURDAY 11/10 GOING 60 MPH ON HIGHWAY MY STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY ONLY TO CORRECT ONCE SLOWING DOWN TO 40 MPH ON HIGHWAY. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP ON MONDAY 11/12. STEERING DAMPENER WAS REPLACED AND VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TUESDAY 11/20. ON TUESDAY 12/18 WHILE GOING 65 MPH ON HIGHWAY THE STEERING WHEEEL ONCE AGAIN BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY AND ONLY WHEN SLOWING DOWN IN MORNING TRAFFICS DID IT STOP. THE VEHICLE HAD 1,000 MILES SINCE IT WAS RETURNED IN NOVEMBER. I BEGAN MY LEASE ON THIS VEHICLE AT THE END OF SEPTEMBER AND IT HAS 3,000 MILES IN 3 MONTHS. IT IS ONCE AGAIN BACK IN SERVICE AND AWAITING ANOTHER STEERING DAMPENER AS A REPLACEMENT. JEEP CUSTOMER SERVICE AND DICK SCOTT IN PLYMOUTH HAVE BOTH BEEN EXTREMELY PLEASANT TO WORK WITH. HOWEVER, I HAVE SERIOUS CONCERNS THAT THIS MAY HAPPEN AGAIN EVEN ONCE THE VEHICLE IS RETURNED. ORIGINAL STEERING DAMPENER FAILED AT 2,000 MILES AND REPLACEMENT DAMPENER FROM NOV 2018 FAILED AT 1,000 MILES. THE TERM THAT IS OFTEN USED FOR THIS STEERING SHAKING IS THE DEATH WOBBLE AND I HAVE SERIOUS CONCERNS OF SOMETHING SIGNIVWNT HAPPENING. ALL STEERING SHAKING SHAVE OCCURRED ON THE HIGHWAY BETWEEN 60-65 MPH WHILE GOING STRAIGHT. NO MAJOR POTHOLES OR DISRUPTION TO THE ROAD WAS EXPERIENCED.

Vehicle failed to restart at the rest area with 18,000 miles on it. I called the service truck and made a report to the dealer the vehicle started within 15 minutes of setting . Went to dealership and had the Jeep checked out. They could not find any thing that was wrong. We were told it had to be malfunctioning to find the problem. Today we were at a grocery store stopped came back in the vehicle would not start. After about 15 minutes vehicle started, while leaving the parking lot the Jeep made a bucking hesitating movement. I Called the dealer they said the Vin number was not on recall. The 2018 jk Jeep has 22,000 miles on it. Found this U 87 recall on the powertrain Control module. Thank you

THERE IS A LARGE DEAD SPOT IN THE STEERING OF MY JL WRANGLER. IT IS GETTING PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. THE VEHICLE TAKES A LOT OF EFFORT TO STAY IN IN A STRAIGHT LINE, PARTICULARLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THE DEALER INITIALLY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG. A DIFFERENT DEALER SAID THEY FEEL IT BUT DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS CAUSING IT.
