  • 12/31/2024· STRUCTURE

The rear tailgate stopped working. Upon investigation, there is structural issue with the body. There are holes near rear tailgate which allows to water to pass through. The water has damaged the rear tailgate motor and now the door is inoperable. This has been a common issue with Odyssey minivans 2018 and newer model. We have contacted honda regarding the issue and they refuse to accept any liability regarding the body defects.

  • 12/28/2018· STRUCTURE

PANEL BEHIND THE GAS PEDAL AND BRAKE PEDAL IS MISSING. THIS EXPOSES A LARGE AREA OF ELECTRICAL WIRES. A DRIVER WILL EASILY BE ABLE TO GET HIS FEET THERE WHILE STRETCHING HIS LEGS AND INTENTIONALLY MESS UP THE WIRING. THIS IS AN ELECTRICAL FIRE HAZARD AND ALSO A SAFETY HAZARD. PICTURES UPLOADED. EARLIER MODELS (2006 WHICH I OWN) HAS A MAJORITY IF THIS AREA COVERED BY PANEL. I CONTACTED THE DEALER AND THEY SAID IT IS NORMAL FOR 2018 MODELS OF ODYSSEY.

  • 12/27/2024· FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE,BACK OVER PREVENTION

The Honda monocular camera is apparently causing malfunctions and or warning lights. This is impacting many Odyssey owners according to my research. This should be addressed by Honda and reimbursement or repair covered as a recall.

  • 12/27/2024· STRUCTURE,UNKNOWN OR OTHER

Our 2018 Honda Odyssey minivan had water leaks intruding and collecting into the power tailgate control module on the driver-side rear compartment causing the tailgate to become nonfunctional and not lock properly or open/close appropriately leading to a major safety issue where the tailgate may open or even not close during movement of the vehicle leading to significant risk to passengers with respect to accident or bodily injury. This power tailgate issue appears to be caused by defective rear body seam seals from the manufacturer that allows water to leak into the rear driver's side panels and intrude into the module leading to damage and destruction of the module circuit board. I have needed to purchase a replacement for the module (~$200) and I have provided photos to show the water damage.

  • 12/22/2023· ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING

The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, she heard an abnormal knocking sound coming from the engine compartment, and the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the connecting rod bearings. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V751000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 100,000.

  • 12/22/2022· POWER TRAIN,ENGINE

The vehicle has a very significant delay in accelerating from a stop or slow roll. Often the delay is up to 2 or 3 seconds and has caused several near misses when attempting to cross traffic. It's inconvenient and more important, a safety problem. Upon research I have discovered it is a wide spread issue among Odysseys in this generation. It seems to be an issue with cars equipped with either the 9 speed or the 10 speed transmission.

  • 12/21/2023· ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Car has acceleration issues when making left turns, merging onto freeway, or passing cars on freeway. Transmission and blind spot light went on and we took car to Honda dealer. They could not find anything wrong, no codes were stored and they were not able to duplicate the issue. Scanned vehicle and unable to trace root cause. Updated TCM software which helped for about a month but acceleration issues are now back again. This is a serious safety issue as the car hesitates to accelerate. We have kept up with all car maintenance.

There’s currently a recall on the 2018 2019 Honda odysseys. The recall is for the same as exact issue that I had with my 2018 Honda Odyssey there’s a problem with the connecting rod bearings recall campaign number 23V751000. I’m being told from Honda that my van does not fall into the production date range for the recall. I’m being told that any repairs I’m going to have to cover myself even though it’s the same issue that the other vehicles are having. I was on the interstate traveling about 70 miles an hour. My check engine light came on blinking I lost total power I had to get out of the left lane and make it all the way to the shoulder between traffic. I had my car towed to the Honda dealership that I’ve taken it to for every single service since I purchased the vehicle. I want to know why my vehicle is not gonna be covered under this so-called recall, if it’s having the same as exact issues as the other vehicles and the recall. And Honda is refusing any help

  • 12/20/2024· ENGINE

The engine failed without prior indication. The dealer says the engine is destroyed and needs to be replaced. Once the engine stopped working the vehicle would not go into neutral and was immovable preventing the vehicle from being moved to a safe location. The dash had a message that said the engine must be running to shift to neutral but the engine was blown. The owners manual has no solution to put the vehicle in neutral with an inoperable engine.

  • 12/19/2025· ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

The Tailgate Control Module failed due to water getting in to it from normal rain. There seems to be a leak in the seam and caused the failure. I took it to the shop and confirmed the failure, purchased a new control module and replaced the faulty one. I opened up the faulty one and it had water damage inside.

  • 12/19/2023· ENGINE

Around October 29th my vehicle developed a faint to loud noise within 24 hours. There was no engine light, no leaking of fluids and no other warning. As we drove the vehicle to a repair shop I could tell there was some hesitation or lack of normal power. The shop we took my vehicle too was not able to do any repair or diagnosis so it was towed to Honda of Olathe, then New Concept Auto and finally Sallas Auto. On November 10th, I was told my engine needed to be replaced due to bearing issue. The mechanic ran diagnostic tests and did not find any past cleared codes or active codes that should have been triggered by an engine issue. My vehicle was serviced regularly. Most recent was an oil change end July/Early August, no issues were found, no metal flakes. In that short period of time my engine failed and I had to replace with a used 2018 engine. During this time we were informed by friends of the Honda Odyssey recall for 2018 engines, however upon calling Honda Corporate, I was told my specific 2018 Honda Odyssey was not included and would "not be covered at this time, if ever". My mechanic is adamant the issues listed in the recall document is the exact issue I had with my engine. On attachment please notice item 1 and 2. Also the deer note at the top of the attached invoice is determined to be a coincidence by three separate mechanics - Honda of Olathe, Sallas and New Concept Auto as well as the State Farm advisor. Thank you

JUST PURCHASED THIS VAN, BRAND NEW, LESS THAN 2 MONTHS AGO. WHEN DRIVING MY CAR, AND IN THE MIDST OF A TURN INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC, MY CAR SHUT DOWN. THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN, THE LIGHTS WENT OFF, I COULDN'T MOVE THE WHEEL. IT JUST WENT DEAD. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER FOR THIS ISSUE AND THE SERIES OF ISSUES I HAD EXPERIENCED IN THE DAYS LEADING UP TO THIS EVENT, WHICH INCLUDED NOT BEING ABLE TO OPEN THE TRUNK, A MESSAGE FLASHING THAT THE BATTERY WAS DEAD AND TO TURN OFF ALL THE LIGHTS IN THE VEHICLE (NO LIGHTS WERE ON), ANTI-THEFT MESSAGE CAME UP TWICE, ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THE FRONT SAFETY SENSORS SAID THEY WERE NOT OPERABLE (WHICH ARE CONTROLLED BY A BOX BY FRONT REAR VIEW MIRROR, AND SENSOR WAS NOT BLOCKED), CALLS HAVE BEEN DROPPED RANDOMLY, SIDE DOORS STICK, ETC. THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED AN OTA SYSTEM UPDATE, AND THAT THE CAR SHUT DOWN AS A RESULT. WHEN I QUESTIONED WHY THE CAR WOULD SHUT DOWN WHILE IN MOTION DUE TO A NEED FOR A SYSTEM UPDATE, I WAS TOLD THAT IS WHAT THE CAR IS DESIGNED TO DO. I AGAIN REPEATED, THE CAR IS DESIGNED TO SHUT DOWN WHILE IN MOTION JUST BECAUSE OF A SYSTEM UPDATE? I WAS TOLD YES, ALL COMPUTER ASSISTED CARS ARE DESIGNED THAT WAY. THEY TOLD ME NOTHING ELSE IS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE, AND I HAVE SEEN ONLINE, THAT MANY OTHERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME ISSUE. PEOPLES LIVES ARE AT PERILOUS DANGER AND RISK WHEN THESE CARS ARE SHUTTING DOWN WHILE IN MOTION. SOMETHING MUST BE DONE NOW BEFORE SERIOUS ACCIDENTS OCCUR AND SOMEONE DIES. I DO NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE PUTTING MY FAMILY BACK IN THIS VEHICLE, ESPECIALLY WITH NO SATISFACTORY ANSWER FROM THE DEALER ON WHAT CAUSED THIS ISSUE.

My vehicle stalls when I turn left or right from a stop light or sign. It’s incredibly dangerous especially when I have my kids in the van with me. We’ve taken it to the Honda dealer for repair and they’ve done work but the issue has not been resolved. I’ve seen countless forums of people with this year make and model who have had the same issue. I don’t know why there’s been no recall but someone is going to get seriously hurt if this issue is not resolved.

My 2018 Honda odyssey EX-L had a power tailgate failure. It looks like the controls module has experienced water damage from a water leak. An independent service center has confirmed the issue. There was no warning before it happened and it is a safety issue as my tail gate cannot Be securely closed. This water leak looks to be manufacturer error.

I removed the car seat cover to wash and discovered there was a crack in the hard foam of the head piece. It completely separated the two side of the headpiece and the side was coming away from the hard plastic base on one side. When I removed the cover completely, half of the head rest piece fell off. This is the 2nd Chicco MyFit car seat that I have had because the first one was replaced under warranty for this very same problem. The biggest issue is that the foam is breaking and coming loose underneath the cover so I don't know how long it has been like this. This compromises the safety of my child if we were to get in an accident. The head protection is obviously important, especially in a side impact crash but with the hard foam broken in half, it is useless.

UPON PROCEEDING THROUGH AN INTERSECTION THE VAN BEGAN TO AUTOMATICALLY BREAK TO A COMPLETE STOP FROM APPROXIMATELY 30-35MPH, SCREECHING TIRES, THEN SHUTTING COMPLETELY OFF. THE ENTIRE DASHBOARD CLUSTER WAS DARK AS WAS THE COMPUTER DISPLAY FOR THE RADIO/OTHER CONTROLS. LOOKING DOWN THE "PARK" INDICATOR WAS LIT RED. I PRESSED THE BREAK AND THE VAN STARTED UP AND WENT INTO GEAR DRIVING AS IF NOTHING OCCURRED. THIS SCARED ME AND UPON MY CALL TO HONDA, THEY SAID IT'S RELATED TO ANOTHER "ELECTRICAL SYSTEM UPDATE" WHICH NEEDS TO OCCUR BUT HAS NOT BEEN COMPLETED SO THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. I REACHED OUT TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP EXPLAINING THE SITUATION AND THEY ADVISED ME TO USE THE ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE TO HAVE THE VAN TAKEN TO THEM FOR SAFETY REASONS.

The front-facing camera responsible for detecting surrounding traffic is malfunctioning, which in turn compromises several critical safety systems. These include adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, and lane departure warning. All of these features depend on the proper functioning of this camera. The vehicle has never been involved in a collision, and the camera was neither abused nor damaged. The failure occurred suddenly and without warning, triggering multiple warning lights on the dashboard. While the vehicle remains operable, all Advanced Driver Assistance Systems are currently disabled. It is my contention that Honda has engineered a defective camera system that requires a substantial out-of-pocket expense for vehicle owners to repair. I believe this cost should be borne by Honda, not the consumer. Accordingly, I am requesting that the NHTSA investigate this issue and require Honda to implement a recall that permanently addresses the problem.

  • 12/14/2022· VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

Our van regularly hesitates when to accelerate from a stop. Example, when turning left across traffic, depressing the accelerator will provide some speed to get into the intersection, then it becomes unresponsive. Letting up and pushing the accelerator will cause the van to move again after about .5 to 1 seconds. Often the accelerator has to be pushed all the way to the floor, which causes the van to move aggressively once it does start to respond causing the tires to spin out. This has been happening since the vehicle was under warranty, however, the dealer wasn’t able to find an issue. While the performance issue is annoying, this becomes a safety issue when stranded out in traffic. There are no service lights on before, during or after the incidents. It seems to happen more in winter, but we have experienced it throughout the seasons. It also occurs whether eco mode is on or off.

The Infotainment Display has been malfunctioning. The display goes black and the back-up camera is not available. On the night of December 12, 2025, we were driving the car on the highway and the screen flickered in and out and then went black and so did the dashboard display. This was very scary as the entire car went dark and we were driving blindly on the highway. It appears that all 2018 Honda Odysseys have a recall for the Infotainment electrical system except for the Elite model that we purchased. I called the dealer last week and was told no recall available and we will need to pay the $179 diagnostic fee plus the cost to repair which will be significant. We will take the car in this week as the car cannot be driven safely without full dashboard and backup camera display.

Errors include: auto high-beams, lane keep warning, collision mitigation system, road departure warning, brake system, and adaptive cruise control failure. All problems stem for the single point of failure - the front-facing sensor/camera located at the top of the windshield. Replacement quotes are $1,800 - $2,500!

The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact pulled over to the side of the road. The vehicle failed to restart and was towed to Tire Choice Auto Service Centers, where it was diagnosed and determined that one of the engine banks had failed. The mechanic determined that the engine needed to be replaced with a used or brand-new engine. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V751000 (Engine and Engine Cooling); however, the VIN was not included. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that he would receive a call back later. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that a case would be filed, and the contact would receive a call back later. The failure mileage was approximately 132,000.

The problem has been reproduced and confirmed by other owners of this car on various forums. I have not had the vehicle inspected by the manufacturer as they are trying to charged me thousands of dollars to review the issue. There were no warning lamps or signals on the car.

I TRIED TO COMPLAIN AT HONDA BUT THEY SAID NOTHING CAN BE DONE AS ITS THE DESIGN OF THE VEHICLE AND THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING. BUT TO ME ITS REALLY VERY DANGEROUS WE WERE LUCKY WE SAW HIM BUT A CHILD CAN EASILY DIE BECAUSE ITS SO EASY FOR ANY CHILD TO GRAB THAT SEATBELT.I HAVE ATTACHED THE PIC WHERE IT SHOWS HOW THAT SEATBELT WORKS FIRST IT LOCKS INTO 1 AND THEN INTO THE 2 LATCH. THE 10-SPEED TRANSMISSION ON MY 2018 HONDA EX-L ODYSSEY VAN SLIPS. THIS HAS INTERMITTENTLY HAPPENED SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NEW, BUT IT IS GETTING WORSE OVER TIME. THE SLIPPAGE OCCURS MOST OFTEN WHEN STARTING AFTER A STOP. THE ENGINE WILL REV FOR TO A FULL SECOND BEFORE THE TRANSMISSION "CATCHES" AND STARTS TO MOVE THE VEHICLE. SOMETIMES THE VEHICLE WILL START WITH A JERK, OTHER TIMES, THE ACCELERATION WILL BE SLOW. THIS UNPREDICTABLE ACCELERATION MAKES IT DANGEROUS TO PULL OUT INTO TRAFFIC. I'VE HAD SEVERAL "NEAR MISS" INCIDENTS WHERE THE UNPREDICTABLE TRANSMISSION PERFORMANCE ALMOST CAUSED ACCIDENTS. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND HONDA NEEDS TO REPAIR IT IMMEDIATELY LEST LIVES BE LOST.

The transmission stopped working, no prior notifications, no weird noises it just stop working, I got to her and tried everything but I had to eventually tow it to the dealership. After a week of troubleshooting we were told a new transmission was needed, at 60K Miles! I just had several recalls completed on my van. The issue that they couldn’t fix (which I have seen on so many message boards) my car stalls when starting from a stop. If I’m at a stop sign and press the gas nothing happens for 2-3 seconds and then it will catch and take off throwing everything in the car and the people forward. It is terrifying! I’ve had it happen with cars approaching and just been a sitting duck, thank the Lord it engaged in time. This seems to be a very prevalent issue and I don’t understand why a recall hasn’t been done before someone dies. My trunk also doesn’t work automatically anymore and they said I had a leak that would be $300 to diagnose and $500 to fix. I know ther are lawsuits for both of these issues. Recalls need to be issued.

Popping noises from the front speakers start static and pop then the screen states connection lost then goes black. Turns back on in about 5-10 minutes depending. Also the lighting for the buttons around the center are not working as well. Idk if this is related or is an overload that the system cannot keep up.

Tailgate controller issue. 2018 Honda Odyssey: A day after a day of rain, we went out shopping and stopped at a store. Getting out , we saw "Tailgate Controller Problem" message appear on the dashboard. I tried to open/close the tailgate but it just kept latching and unlatching. I was finally able to get it to remain closed by pushing on the tailgate. After heading to another store, saw a "high-beam problem" message, and another message, so we went home. At night, I noticed the interior ceiling lights going on and off. I went to start the van, and my key fob would not unlock the door. I used the emergency key in the fob and tried opening the drivers door...after 45 seconds of turning left and turning right, the windows rolled down about an inch, then the door unlocked. I started the van and moved it up in the driveway and turned it off, and checked a couple of times all night to see if the lights came back on. The next morning, I had to charge the battery because it was at 3Vs. I drove the van to make sure the alternator was working, and then saw messages: blinking "R" for reverse blinking "D" and no turn signals, and messages appeared: "Transmission Problem". "Keyless Start System Problem","Blind Spot Info System Problem".We dropped the van off at the dealer and it would not lock with the fob, and the center dashboard console (with the navigation menu)remained on with the engine off and door closed. Dealer ordered a Tailgate Controller. When we asked the person at the desk, what the issue was..."moisture got in". I told him there is a discussion on the internet about a (design) leak in the roof causing this issue. He said, the controller is in the tailgate not in the van. But I know its on the side panel. This situation is very dangerous because a week before we had traveled with the van,out of state, on the interstate, trying to get people to airports and if these messages had appeared then, we would have had a very harrowing experience. A message is still seen
