  • ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:BODY CONTROL MODULE:SOFTWARECampaign 20V771000 · 10/12/2020

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2018-2020 Accord Sedan, Accord Hybrid, and 2019-2020 Insight vehicles. A software error may cause intermittent or continuous disruptions in communication between the Body Control Module (BCM) and other components. This may result in malfunctions of various systems such as the windshield wipers and defroster, rearview camera, exterior lights, audible warning of a stopped vehicle, and power window operation. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 103, "Windshield Defrosting and Defogging Systems" and number 111, "Rear Visibility" as well as FMVSS numbers 104, 108, 114, 118, and 305.

Risk: Various system malfunctions such as inoperative windshield wipers, defroster, rearview camera, or exterior lighting can increase the risk of a crash.

Fix: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will update the BCM software, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin February 22, 2021. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is X95.

  • SEAT BELTS:FRONT:BUCKLE ASSEMBLYCampaign 23V158000 · 09/03/2023

A manufacturing issue with the front seat belts may cause the seat belt buckle channel to interfere with the release button, preventing the seat belt buckle from latching.

Risk: An unlatched seat belt cannot properly restrain the seat occupant during a crash, increasing their risk of injury.

Fix: Dealers will replace the driver and front passenger seat belt buckle release buttons or the buckle assemblies as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 18, 2023. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are NDA, QDB, BDC, MDD, LD9. • 12/20/2023· ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

The 2018 Honda Accord Hybrids suffer from a critical electrical design flaw which has left me stranded in dangerous positions on the roadside multiple times. In a normal gasoline powered vehicle, when the ignition is on, the engine is running and the alternator is generating current to charge the battery and keep it in good health. However, with Honda's Hybrid system, even with the ignition on the engine does not engage and as a result it does not keep the battery at a healthy charge. Honda could easily detect high current draw on the 12v electrical system (like a tire inflator e.g.) and start the gasoline motor when needed, but they have chosen not to do so letting the vehicle's battery drain to a dangerously low level which has other adverse effects on the car's safety systems. LKAS and TPMS systems have reported erroneous messages when this condition occurs. If there were a way to ensure the gasoline motor stayed on for roadside service tasks that would solve this issue, but currently in all modes the engine will shut off after running for a time, allowing the battery to be drained and damaged.

WHILE DRIVING THE DISPLAY AUDIO PORTION OF THE CAR WILL SHUT OFF RANDOMLY AND RESTART, OR FREEZE, THEN SHUT DOWN, AND RESTART. THERE IS SOMETIMES AN AUDIO WARNING (BEEP) OFTEN TIMES IT WILL JUST RANDOMLY SHUT DOWN. I HAVE EXPERIENCED IT NO FEWER THAN 8 TIMES WHILE DRIVING SINCE AUGUST. IT HAS HAPPENED IN BOTH CITY DRIVING AND HIGHWAY DRIVING. IT ALWAYS OCCURS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. MOST INSTANCES HAVE OCCURRED WHEN USING MY MOTOROLA G5 PLUS CONNECTED VIA USB AND USING ANDROID AUTO FOR DIRECTIONS, HOWEVER, NOT EVERY INSTANCE. THE DEALERSHIP AND I HAVE BOTH DONE A FACTORY RESET ON THE HEAD UNIT IN THE VEHICLE, AS WELL AS HAD IT SERVICED FOR THE RECALL AND THE ISSUE STILL PERSISTS.

  • 12/17/2021· ENGINE

This has occurred on two separate dates. While using ECON mode and driving on the highway I went to accelerate to pass another vehicle and the car started shaking and the check engine light started flashing. I could no longer accelerate with traffic traveling at speeds of 70 behind me. I was able to safely maneuver my car to the should of the highway. I turned it off for a few minutes and turned it back on and it operated perfectly fine with no engine light on anymore. The second time it happened the car forced the ECON mode off while flashing the check engine light, but kept shaking until I pulled over and turned off the car for a few minutes. I will be taking it to the dealer. Had there not been a highway shoulder I would’ve had to force my way across 4 lanes on a 70mph highway while being unable to accelerate or come to a complete stop in the fast lane which is a major safety issue.

  • 12/17/2020· ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

THE 2018 HONDA ACCORD HYBRID'S ACTIVE NOISE CANCELING (ANC) SYSTEM IS FLAWED. THE CAR HOWLS, ROARS AND CAN EVEN PRODUCE A LOUD BOOM AT CERTAIN CONDITIONS (IE. LIGHT ACCELERATION, ENGINE RPMS ~2250, COLDER TEMPS (<50DEGF), STARTING @ 30+MPH BUT WORST IS @ ~52MPH). I TOOK THE CAR INTO MY LOCAL HONDA DEALER WHO CONFIRMED THE PROBLEM. HOWEVER, AFTER THEY CHECKED THE INTERNAL CAR MICROPHONES WERE OK (PER A HONDA SERVICE BULLETIN TEST, ...SO HONDA AMERICA KNOWS THERE IS A PROBLEM), THEY STOPPED WORK AND TOLD ME HONDA CORPORATE WON'T LET THEM REPLACE THE ANC, BECAUSE APPARENTLY THE TECHNICIAN'S AUDIO RECORDING OF THE PROBLEM IN MY CAR WASN'T SUFFICIENTLY ADEQUATE. NOTE: I FIND THIS PROBLEM IS REPEATEDLY DISCUSSED ON THE VARIOUS 2018-20 HONDA ACCORD HYBRID FORUMS WITH MANY FRUSTRATED OWNERS. LIKE MANY ON THE FORUMS, I ASKED (AND PAID FOR) THE HONDA TECHNICIAN TO DISCONNECT THE ANC. WHILE THE LOW SPEED ROAD NOISE IS MUCH HIGHER, THE ROAR, HOWLING AND OBNOXIOUS BOOM IS GONE. IT SURE WOULD BE NICE TO GET MY QUIET CAR BACK SOMEDAY. CAN NHSTA HELP? NOTE: IF NEEDED, I CAN UPLOAD THE HONDA DEALER SERVICE DOCUMENTS WRT ABOVE, PLEASE ADVISE, THANKS

I WAS SLOWLY PULLING INTO MY GARAGE TO PARK. WHEN I PRESSED ON THE PARKING BREAK, THE CAR REVVED TO FULL SPEED, SLAMMED INTO GARAGE AND WOULD NOT RESPOND TO THE BRAKES, OR ANY ATTEMPT TO TURN OFF THE IGNITION OR TO CONTROL THE CAR, INCLUDING FAILURE OF THE AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING, FORWARD COLLISION OR PARKING COLLISION TO FUNCTION, EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE ALL TURNED ON. WHEN "PARK" WAS DEPRESSED, WITH THE ENGINE STILL REVVING AT A HIGH SPEED, THE CAR FLEW FULL SPEED INTO REVERSE INTO THE DRIVEWAY, SPUN IN A CIRCLE THEN FLEW THROUGH THE DRIVEWAY ELEVATED CONCRETE DIVIDER, THROUGH THE NEIGHBORS FENCE AND WAS STOPPED BY A LARGE BOULDER UNDER THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE ENGINE WAS SMOKING AND REVVING AND DID NOT IMMEDIATELY STOP. THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIR BAG HAD DEPLOYED AND THE DOOR WAS JAMMED. I CRAWLED OUT OF THE PASSENGER SIDE. THE NEIGHBOR INTO WHOSE YARD THE VEHICLE WENT, WITNESSED THE INCIDENT. ANOTHER NEIGHBOR RUSHED TO THE CAR WITH A FIRE EXTINGUISHER, DISCONNECTED ELECTRICAL WIRING AND SPRAYED THE ENGINE. THE CAR HAD GONE TOTALLY OUT OF CONTROL. IT TOOK THE TOWING SERVICE 2 HOURS TO GET THE CAR OUT OF THE YARD. MY INSURANCE COMPANY DETERMINED THE CAR TO BE A TOTAL LOSS. RECENTLY, THE COLLISION CENTER WHERE THE CAR WAS EVENTUALLY TAKEN, COMPLETED AN ANALYSIS OF THE CAR'S COMPUTER AND DETERMINED THERE HAD BEEN MULTIPLE COMPUTER SYSTEM FAILURES LEADING TO THE CAR BECOMING UNCONTROLLABLE. FORTUNATELY, I WAS NOT SERIOUSLY INJURED. HAD THIS HAPPENED IN A BUSY AREA, THERE COULD HAVE BEEN A MUCH MORE DISASTROUS RESULT WITH DEATHS. THE POLICE ARRIVED BUT DID NOT FILE A POLICE REPORT AS THE INCIDENT WAS ON PRIVATE PROPERTY AND THERE WAS NO ONE SERIOUSLY INJURED.*DT *TR

If the car is not driven for about 5 days, it will not start. I told this to the local Honda dealer and he says I am not alone. All modern Accords do this because the computer performs a self-check every 2-3 hours and this drains the battery. If the car is not driven every couple of days this can compound and take the battery level down below the minimum needed to start the vehicle. I have been stuck twice because of this. I have had to buy a portable jump start thing and keep it in my car for when this happens. He said Honda knows about the problem but he has heard of no solution.

  • 11/14/2023· FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

Around 7:45am full day light, clear weather, I was driving on a surface street with multiple lanes (3) going in a single direction with a center divide between the vehicles going in the opposite direction. I was traveling around 40 miles an hour there were no vehicles in front of me or beside me and no objects in the road. I had my foot on the accelerator and suddenly without any warning the Automatic Emergency Braking system engaged throwing me and contents in my vehicle forward. It felt like hard braking and clearly a malfunction of the vehicles ADAS. I felt very fortunate that no one was traveling behind me as the braking was so sudden that it could have lead to a rear-end collision. This is the second time this has occurred since owning the vehicle. The first time was 2021 and I was driving on the hwy at 75 miles an hour and the vehicles Automatic Emergency Braking system engaged. I through it was a fluke so I never reported the incident.

ON SUNDAY NIGHT (11/10/19) AROUND 5:15 PM, I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE LEFT LANE OF A 2-LANE HIGHWAY AT ~55 MPH. THE CLOSEST VEHICLE WAS NO LESS THAN 5 CAR LENGTHS AHEAD OF ME. RANDOMLY, THE ORANGE "BRAKE" LIGHT CAME ON IN THE DASH AND THE CAR AUTOMATICALLY SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES ALMOST TO A COMPLETE STOP CAUSING MY HEAD TO JOLT FORWARD. LUCKILY THE CAR BEHIND ME WAS ABLE TO STOP AS I STARTED TO ACCELERATE AGAIN. I BELIEVE THERE WAS NOTHING IN FRONT OF ME OR ON THE ROAD THAT SHOULD HAVE CAUSED THIS SAFETY FEATURE TO ENGAGE. THIS WAS VERY DANGEROUS AND SCARY. I WOKE UP THIS MORNING IN EXCRUCIATING PAIN FROM MY NECK AND SHOULDERS DOWN TO MY LOWER BACK. THE PAIN HAS BEEN GETTING WORSE THROUGHOUT THE DAY AND IS NOW RADIATING DOWN MY ARMS AND I HAVE LIMITED RANGE OF MOTION. LAST NIGHT, I FIGURED OUT HOW TO TURN OFF THE AUTOMATIC BRAKE FEATURE AND HAVE NOT TURNED IT BACK ON TODAY.

Multiple times in the state of Oklahoma, driving from Oklahoma to Maryland, and in Maryland Washington DC area, the automatic brakes apply at highway speeds on the interstate whenever there is a shadow in the road. It is extremely frightening. I am having the fuel pump recall Repaired at the Honda dealership today. I told the Honda dealership about this problem and they said they were unaware of it. They said they would reset the calibration on the anti-breaking system. However, upon research, it looks like you are investigating this problem. Please add my car to the list of cars affected. I do not know the exact dates that this happened but it has been. I would say at least 20 to 30 times since 2020 when I bought the vehicle.

  • 11/06/2024· UNKNOWN OR OTHER

My complaint is concerning NHTSA Recall Number 23V-858. The problem I have is this. I called my Honda dealer today saying I wanted to bring in my vehicle to have the fuel pump replaced as is stated in the recall. I was told that the part would have to be ordered but before ordering the part the dealership would want to perform a diagnostic test on my vehicle to see if my fuel pump had an issue. Here's the part that I have a BIG problem with. If my fuel pump is deemed to be defective, they will order the part and replace it at no charge and will not charge me for the diagnostic test (I seem to recall it being in the ~$180 range). BUT, if the fuel pump is deemed to not be defective, I would be charged for the diagnostic. I argued with the receptionist that this is not something that's up for discussion as this is a Safety Recall from NHTSA and that Honda's own paperwork states that they will "replace the fuel pump for FREE" with no mention of first having to pass a diagnostic exam. I did manage to talk to the service manager and plead my case to show him that this would amount to a "money grab" if my vehicle were to not show a problem with the diagnostics. I also pointed out that the only way to see an "improperly molded impeller" (which is apparently the technical problem) would be to remove and inspect the fuel pump at which time you should just replace it anyway, since that's what Honda recall notification indicates. The service manager says he is going to waive any fee for my diagnostic test but I still have to have the diagnostic in order for them to be able to order the part. So I'lll be taking my vehicle in next Friday morning to have the diagnostic. I wonder how many people may have, over the past year or so, taken their cars to this dealership and had the diagnostic performed with a negative result for a failed fuel pump and incurred fee for something that they would not have brought their car in for had they not gotten the recall notification?

  • 11/05/2024· ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Car has been throwing check engine light codes for different things for the past three years. First, the spark plugs needed to be replaced, then the electric coolant pump. After each repair, the check engine light came back on as soon as 4 days after but as late as a month after. Most recently, while driving on the highway the car check engine light came on and began flashing and the vehicle would not accelerate past 20mph. I took the closest exit and parked the car and had it towed to the closest Honda dealer where they informed me that there is an active recall and they are waiting for a call to see what they can do to help but that there is a head gasket issue as well as a fuel pump code. Previously when the check engine light came on and it took it to get checked I was told there was no code holding in the system.

  • 11/02/2024· FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

I was driving in between 40 and 50 miles per hour and the automatic braking got activated automatically for a few seconds. The road was clear and there were no vehicles or obstacles anywhere. It was about 9.15 am and approx temp was 40 F. This is the second time it occurred. The car is not under factory warranty and the dealer would be charging diagnostic fees and unlikely to find anything wrong.

TIRE GOES FLAT AT HIGH SPEEDS OR BLOW OUT COULD CAUSE A MAJOR ACCIDENT. HAVE CONTACTED THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY ARE AWARE BUT CANNOT DO ANYTHING. ALSO SAID THE RESULT OF THE WARNING COULD BE WEATHER OR ROAD CONDITIONS. OUR VEHICLE IS UNDER WARRANTY WITH 30,800 MILES. THERE ARE SENDING UNITS FOR EACH TIRE. The car loses power. It starts as a misfire on cylinder 2 (P0302 code) and the engine starts to shutdown (or goes into a safe mode with no power). The result is loss of speed which creates a safety hazard especially on highways. This has happened multiple times and the car has been in the shop 4 times for this issue. We have to pull off the road, turn the car off, sit for a minute and restart the car. It will then run ok. This has happened during acceleration and when just trying to keep speed on an incline. The dealership has not been able to identify an issue. The head gasket was replaced in April 2025 because they thought there was a pin hole that was causing oil to push into the cylinder. The misfire continued to happen. It was in the shop on October 2025 and they found nothing wrong with the spark plug, induction coils, gas feed. Therefore no understanding of the root cause.

The condition was dry and the outside temperature was around 60 degrees. I was merging onto the interstate in sport mode when all-of-the-sudden my car went into a limp mode. The check engine light began flashing and car lost 90% of its power. The engine made a knocking noise and began to shudder violently. I tried to switch it out of sport mode to get it back into Eco but the message displayed on the dash said something like "Unavailable at this time." I was about a mile and a half away from work and was able to creep along the road to make it there as it was losing more and more power. When I got to work (with the engine still running) I lifted the hood and the engine was still shaking hard. I scheduled an appointment with the local dealership to have it looked at that afternoon at 2:00 pm. When I drove it to the dealership 3 miles away, the check engine light was no longer flashing and the engine seemed to run fine. When I called the service advisor later that afternoon to check the status of my car he told me, "The technician drove the car around with the scan tool plugged into it and it drove fine. He wasn't able to pull any codes from the PCM." I find it to be odd. In my experience, whenever the CEL illuminates, a malfunction code will be stored in the PCM until it is cleared. Why would Honda program the PCM to reset and hide the malfunction code so that we're not able to diagnose the issue? I did take the car into the dealership earlier this year to get a warranty battery replacement and to perform 2 recalls (one was an emission recall and the other was for the BCM).

(REGISTERING THIS COMPLAINT ON 16 SEP 19). I BOUGHT THIS CAR NEW ('18 ACCORD HYBRID), 6 SEP 18. A COUPLE MONTHS LATER THE FRONT STRUTS STARTED MAKING A CREAKING/POPPING SOUND. IT WAS VERY NOTICEABLE WHEN BACKING OUT OF GARAGE AND THEN DRIVING OUT OF MY NEIGHBORHOOD. WHEN I'D ROCK THE STEERING BACK AND FORTH, THE NOISE WAS VERY AUDIBLE. TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID NEITHER FRONT STRUT HAD BEEN LUBED FROM THE FACTORY (VERY ODD), SO THEY LUBED THEM. 2-3 WEEKS LATER NOISE RETURNED. THIS TIME DEALER SAID ONE STRUT WAS BAD AND THEY REPLACED IT. A MONTH LATER THE SAME NOISE RETURNED. DEALER SAID I HAD A BENT CONTROL ARM AND ASKED ME IF I HAD HIT SOMETHING. I HADN'T AND TOLD THEM SO. AFTER INSPECTION THEY SAID THEY FOUND NO DAMAGE BUT THAT THE CONTROL WAS BENT AND CONCLUDED THAT IT WAS BENT FROM THE FACTORY OR WAS DAMAGED DURING SHIPPING. DEALER REPLACED IT. BUT THEN 3-4 WEEKS LATER SAME NOISE RETURNED. I HAVE ABOUT HAD IT WITH THIS PARTICULAR CAR (I HAVE HAD TO TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALER FOR MANY 'OTHER' ISSUES ALSO: TWO RECALLS, ELECTRICAL ISSUES, NAVIGATION ISSUES, THE ENGINE'S BATTERY WAS FAULTY, AND THE MILEAGE HAS STEADILY DROPPED BY 25% SINCE I BOUGHT AND TOOK DELIVERY OF IT IN SEP, 2018). SERVICE MANAGER SAID HE WOULD DISCUSS THESE ISSUES WITH HONDA AREA REP (LAST WEEK), BUT HAS YET TO GET BACK TO ME AS OF 16 SEP 19. AMONG ALL THE PROBLEMS, THE SUSPENSION HAS BEEN ONGOING OVER THE LAST 10-11 MONTHS. WEST HILLS HONDA HAS MADE THREE ATTEMPTS TO CORRECT THE SUSPENSION PROBLEMS BUT ALL HAVE FAILED. THE SUSPENSION NOISE IS STILL PRESENT AS OF 16 SEP 19. VEHICLE HAS APPROXIMATELY 8700 MILES.

[XXX] Yesterday around 11:15AM CDT I was traveling north at 45 MPH right lane (4 lane road) no other cars around me (neither ahead, to the side or behind) and just before I reached a tree shaded spot on the road the Break Alert light started flashing and the Automatic Emergency Braking System engaged and slammed on the brakes (seemed like it cut the gas or electric power to the engine as my foot was on the accelerator pedal). It jarred my body and later in the evening my neck started to tighten up so I must have incurred whiplash. I looked on line and saw that there has been a class action case filed in 2019 about Honda’s ASBS engaging with no other vehicle around citing several other instances similar of what happened to me yesterday. When I went to unload my groceries that I had just purchased and placed in the cargo netting in the cars trunk, the force of the hard stop was so great that it pulled the clip that was holding the cargo netting out. I’ll attach a couple of pictures (clip that popped out is circled in red.) I’ve not contacted my doctor yet about the whiplash. Started putting cold and hot on my neck and taking Aleve. While driving on a bridge at under 20 mph, the vehicle's head gasket failed, causing the engine to overheat and coolant to leak from within the engine. The vehicle threw diagnostic trouble code P2601 and immediately entered "limp mode," severely cutting engine power and vehicle speed. Because this happened on a bridge with no shoulder to safely pull over, the sudden loss of power created a serious safety hazard — the vehicle could not maintain a safe speed or keep pace with surrounding traffic, increasing the risk of being struck by other vehicles. The vehicle was taken to a Tampa Honda (11000 N Florida Ave), where the failure was confirmed to be a blown head gasket that allowed coolant to leak into the engine cylinders. The head gasket and related components were replaced at a cost of approximately $5,000 to restore the vehicle to safe operating condition. The failed component is no longer available for inspection in its failed state, as replacement was required to make the vehicle drivable. No dealer, manufacturer representative, police officer, or insurance adjuster has inspected the vehicle; only at Tampa Honda facility that performed the repair diagnosed and confirmed the head gasket failure. Prior to this incident, no warning lamps or symptoms were noted — the P2601 code and limp mode activation occurred simultaneously with the sudden overheating and coolant loss, with no advance warning. This failure is consistent with a widely reported defect pattern among Honda vehicles with similar engines, where the head gasket fails prematurely and allows coolant to enter the cylinders. Honda has not issued a recall or acknowledged a manufacturing defect despite numerous consumer reports describing the same failure mode.

The engine head gasket failed due to design flows. I have to put coolants and oil on a daily basis to keep the car running to avoid overheating.

I have had issues with the display turning off while vehicle is in motion. I have had this issue since I purchased the vehicle and have addressed the concern each and every time it has been serviced. They "reset" the software and say that will take care of it, but it never does. This has been a hazard from the beginning. Now, my car won't turn on but all the lights come on including every warning notice on the panel. I see now that there is a recall which I am taking it in for tomorrow. This vehicle is proving to be a lemon.

PARKING SENSOR DESIGN FAILURE. THE PARKING SENSOR ALARM INTERMITTENTLY GOES OFF WHEN THE VEHICLE IS TRAVELING 5 MPH OR LESS, SOMETIMES EVEN WHEN THE VEHICLE IS NOT MOVING. THIS FAILURE IN THE SYSTEM IS A DISTRACTION TO THE DRIVER CAUSING THE DRIVER TO STOP WHAT HE/SHE IS DOING TO IDENTIFY THE ALARM. NORMALLY, THIS WOULD NOT BE AN A MAJOR ISSUE, HOWEVER, WHEN STOPPED WAITING TO TURN LEFT FROM ONE LANE OF TRAFFIC WITH LITTLE TO NO MEDIAN, ONCOMING TRAFFIC WILL CAUSE THE SYSTEM TO CONSTANTLY GO OFF DISTRACTING THE DRIVER. THERE ARE ALSO TIMES WHEN THE VEHICLE IS COMPLETELY STOPPED AND SITTING BEHIND ANOTHER VEHICLE, THAT THE SYSTEM WILL AGAIN GO OFF INDICATING THE DRIVER IS ABOUT TO HIT AN OBJECT EVEN THOUGH THE CAR IS COMPLETELY STATIONARY. I TOOK THIS VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL HONDA DEALER ONLY TO BE TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE SYSTEM AND THE SYSTEM WAS DESIGNED THIS WAY. THIS SYSTEM IS A DISTRACTION TO DRIVERS AND VERY LIKELY COULD CAUSE SENSORY OVERLOAD TO DRIVERS IF NOT CORRECTED.

I WAS TURNING RIGHT INTO THE PARKING SPACE FOR MY CAR AT MY HOME WITH MY FOOT RESTING ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND GOING AT A VERY SLOW SPEED. THEN SUDDENLY THE CAR ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN. I HAD TO STEP HARD ON THE BRAKE, WHICH MADE IT VEER TO THE RIGHT. I WAS ABLE TO MAKE THE CAR STOP JUST SHORT OF HITTING OUR OTHER CAR. THIS HAPPENED ONCE BEFORE ABOUT A MONTH AGO WHEN I WAS DRIVING IN MY DRIVEWAY, AGAIN AT A VERY SLOW SPEED, THIS TIME GOING STRAIGHT, WHEN THE CAR ACCELERATED FOR NO REASON. AGAIN, I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE CAR BY SLAMMING ON THE BRAKES.

At approximately [XXX]. Pacific, I was traveling southbound in the fastrak lane of the [XXX] departing from Pleasant Hill, California headed to Pleasanton, California. As I began to accelerate, the engine began to sputter. Immediately, the check engine light flashed on, then the dashboard reported a number of issues ranging from brake failure, TPMS failure, power assisted steering failure, vehicle stability assist failure and a number of other issues that I have never encountered since purchasing the vehicle. The sudden deceleration almost resulted in other cars impacting my car as this occurred during the morning commute. I was able to safely navigate off of the freeway. I was on speakerphone with Honda when this occurred. Had I not acted swiftly, a potential high speed rear end collision was likely to have occurred. I immediately took the car to Concord Honda. The team at Concord Honda performed a diagnosis and advised me that my head gasket was leaking water into the combustion chamber which resulted in the sudden loss of power. I was and continue to be dissatisfied with the handling of this issue by Honda as my car has never been handled by another mechanic. My car has a perfect or near perfect maintenance record and should not have a blown head gasket at 80k miles especially since my car is meticulously maintained and serviced by Concord Honda. IN LESS THAN 5,000 MILES I'VE HAD 2 CRACKED WINDSHIELDS THAT SHOW NO SIGN OF PEBBLE OR STONE IMPACT AND CRACKED WHILE THE CAR WAS NOT BEING DRIVEN. BOTH CRACKS STARTED IN APPROX. THE SAME PLACE OF THE LEFT AND RIGHT SIDE PILLARS. EACH INSTANCE COSTS APPROX. $1400 TO REPLACE THE WINDSHIELD (INCLUDES CAMERA RECAL). YOU CAN FIND NUMEROUS INSTANCES ON THE INTERNET OF BASICALLY THE SAME THING HAPPENING TO OTHER ACCORD (AND HYBRIDS) OWNERS. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE IT COULD AFFECT THE SAFETY SYSTEMS MOUNTED IN THE WINDSHIELD. EITHER THE GLASS IS SPECED WRONG OR DEFECTIVE OR THE DESIGN IS TORQUEING THE GLASS MORE THAN ITS DESIGNED TO HANDLE.

Engine overheated and turns out we have a blown head gasket. The problem escalated quickly from and "your engine may be warm" messages to "Do not drive!" messages. We tried to stop and cool it off when that message happened. To me the safety issue comes with the experience of needing to urgently find a place to stop while driving on a busy road (interstate for us) so the engine doesn't get much worse. Car is currently at a Honda dealer to assess the damage to the engine.
