  • SEAT BELTS:PRETENSIONERCampaign 16V955000 · 29/12/2016

Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain model year 2017 Audi A7, A4, A6, Volkswagen Golf and Tiguan vehicles and 2016 Volkswagen e-Golf vehicles for driver frontal air bags, passenger frontal air bags or head air bags that may not deploy properly. Additionally, certain 2017 Audi Q7, A4 Sedan, A4 Allroad, and 2018 Audi Q5 vehicles are being recalled because the seat belt pretensioners may not activate properly.

Risk: In the event of a crash, if the air bags and/or the seat belt pretensioners do not inflate or function properly, the vehicle occupants have an increased risk of injury.

Fix: Volkswagen and Audi will notify owners, and dealers will replace the affected air bags and seat belt pretensioners, free of charge. The recall began April 2017. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298 or Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834.

Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2015-2018 Volkswagen Golf and Golf Sportwagen vehicles. The build of silicate on the shift lever micro switch contacts may enable the key to be removed from the ignition while the vehicle shift lever is not in "Park." As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 114, "Theft Protection and Rollaway Prevention."

Risk: Removing the key while the shift lever is in a position other than "Park" increases the risk of an unintended vehicle rollaway that may result in personal injury or a crash.

Fix: Volkswagen will notify owners, and dealers will install an additional switch and circuit board, free of charge. The recall began March 19, 2019. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 37L5.

Risk: If a coil spring fractures while driving, it may damage a rear tire causing a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.

Fix: Volkswagen will notify owners, and dealers will replace the rear axle coil springs, free of charge. The recall began April 12, 2019. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 42J5.

PURCHASED A USED 2017 VW ALLTRACK APRIL 2 YEARS AGO. PRESENTLY HAS ~30K MILES. CHRISTMAS DAY THIS YEAR, 4 WARNING LIGHTS APPEARED LIT-UP IN THE CONSOLE-AIR-BAG, TIRE PRESSURE, ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL. TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED, AND ADVISED THAT WATER-INTRUSION OCCURRED DUE TO BLOCKED SUN-ROOF DRAINS [WHICH ARE NOT IMMEDIATELY ACCESSIBLE. ADVISED THAT IT WAS NOT CONSIDERED STANDARD MAINTENANCE AND AN EXPENSIVE REPAIR. ALSO REPAIRED WERE CORRODED WIRING CONNECTORS AND CORRODED WIRES! DEALER ADVISED THAT ONCE CORRECTED 'IT SHOULDN'T BE A PROBLEM AGAIN' WHICH WE DON'T TRUST OR BELIEVE. RESEARCH INDICATES THAT THIS IS A WELL-KNOWN AND WELL-DOCUMENTED PROBLEM. WE ARE VERY FRUSTRATED AND CONCERNED THIS PROBLEM WILL BE CONTINUOUSLY OCCURRING. RUST NEVER SLEEPS

The sunroof glass exploded while driving. Shattered glass had the potential to fall into the vehicle had the sun shield not been closed. Shattered class could fly out onto the road causing hazards to other motorists. The sunroof has not been inspected yet. No warnings or symptoms prior to failure. While driving, a loud explosion was heard coming from the top of the car. When inspecting the top of the car it was noticed that the sunroof had been shattered along the seal. No signs of impact from projectiles.

  • 12/18/2023· FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

The fuel suction pump in my 2017 volkswagen golf r failed causing strong gas odors to emit whenever the car is running, loss of power, inability to put more than a small amount of fuel in, and gas leaking into the evap and charcoal canister causing them to fail. This creates a huge risk for ignition and fuel dumping onto the road which, only because I stopped driving it, has not happened to me. A check engine light has still yet to appear even after part failure. I believe you can see how big of a safety risk this causes to not only the vehicle's occupants, but those around it as well. I have already taken it to the volkswagen dealer and they themselves confirmed that yes the fuel suction pump has failed and that all those parts and the fuel tank itself need replaced totaling around 3,500 to 4,000 dollars. I have not gotten anything replaced. They refuse to cover it under the warranty extension titled VWP22-12 even though my car is obviously not 15 years old and it only has around 37,000 miles. They claim they revised the part for 2017 so that it doesn't fail anymore, but if that were the case then why is that warranty extension all the way up to 2020 models. I have looked through other complaints filed on this site and see you've already been contacted several times about my exact issue on 2017 models. I am urging you to please make this a recall. Volkswagen clearly knows this is a widespread issue evidenced by the fact the it affects such a large amount of models and years and by not making a recall you are allowing them to screw people over.

  • 12/10/2022· SUSPENSION

Car developed a knocking sound from the front-left which occurred during any movement of the suspension, i.e. from all minor perturbations of the road surface rather than major dynamic actions such as breaking or steering. The dealer diagnosed worn out sway bar bushings. They replaced these (and potentially other suspension components - work details from the invoice can be provided upon request) but discovered during their work that the entire front subframe had failed with a major crack. Details can be seen in the attached photos (taken by the VW dealership - Ourisman of Bethesda, MD). I authorized the replacement of the front subframe with OEM components, at a cost in excess of $2000. I have owned the car from new (first registered in January 2018) and it has ~43,000 miles. The car has never been involved in an accident and has been used as family transport on standard road surfaces / driving conditions.

There is a piece of trim near the gear selector in the interior that separated to reveal a sharp edge that caused a severe cut on my hand.

  • 12/01/2021· UNKNOWN OR OTHER

The aluminum trim piece around gear shift has come up from the plastic underneath. It is the front of the trim next to where there is a charging outlet and small item storage. When removing my phone one day, I caught my finger on the raised (delaminated) section of the aluminum and sliced my finger open. I did not need stitches, but did use butterfly closures while it healed. I removed the part that was sticking up so now the sharp edge is closer to the exposed plastic and not as much of a hazard. A quick online search shows this is a fairly common problem with many people reporting a cut finger/hand.

THE SUBJECT VEHICLE, VIN: [XXX] A 2018 GOLF ALLTRACK SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT WARNING DOWNSHIFTED AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS CAUSING RAPID DECELERATION. THIS OCCURRED ON A TWO-LANE RURAL HIGHWAY AND AT ABOUT 60 MPH DOWN TO 40 MPH. THE YELLOW "!" ILLUMINATED WITH A MESSAGE LIKE "TRANS ERROR, REV UNAVAILABLE, SEE DEALER". WHILE I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF THE ROADWAY SAFELY, THE TWO VEHICLES BEHIND WERE CAUGHT OFF-GUARD BY THE SUDDEN AND RAPID DECELERATION. I CONFIRMED THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT OPERATE IN REVERSE AND THE PADDLE SHIFTERS WERE ALSO NOT ABLE TO CHANGE GEARS. MAXIMUM ROAD SPEED WAS 41 MPH @ 9100 RPM, SO UNSAFE TO CONTINUE. THERE WAS NO DEALER IN THE AREA, SO I CYCLED THE KEY OFF THEN RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE AND OBTAIN SERVICE. THE DEALER REPORTED THERE WAS AN "INTERNAL PART FAILURE" OF THE TRANSMISSION. HAD THIS CONDITION PRESENTED IN A HIGH TRAFFIC OR ADVERSE WEATHER SITUATION, IT WOULD HAVE LIKELY RESULTED IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR

On 10/23/2021 in the process of refueling the vehicle in question the gas pump shut off after only pumping less than a gallon of gas. Repeated attempts yielded the same results. Additionally gas would back up and flow down the over flow tube onto the ground. I tried other pumps on subsequent dates with same result. I was able to get enough gas into the tank, less than a gallon at a time, to drive the vehicle from 10/23/2021 to 11/2/2021 when the vehicle began to buck or act like it would shut off. I was able to drive home and stopped driving the vehicle on 11/2/2021. I contacted the local VW dealer and made an appointment to have the vehicle looked at on 11/16/2021. This problem isn't unique to my vehicle. There have been a lot of VW/AUDI vehicles that experienced the same or similar problems. On 11/16/2021 the dealer verified the problem I described. Dealer could not get flap to open in tank. Dealer removed EVAP canister and fuel sprayed out. Dealer replaced fuel tank, EVAP canister and other related parts. Repairs were completed and $3896.69 later vehicle runs fine. There were no warning lights to warn me of a problem. Of course, when gasoline and gasoline vapors are present there is always the possibility of damage, injury, or death. Consumer stated recall for vins were issued prior to consumer's vehicle but not his.

On 8/22/21, the aluminum/plastic trim around the gear shifter boot gave me a deep cut on my pinky finger as I removed my phone from the USB adapter. The bleeding did not stop for several hours even after applying pressure and I'm very lucky that I didn't need stitches!!! That aluminum/plastic trim is RAZOR SHARP!!! This is an extreme safety hazard for drivers and passengers and not to mention children!!! Why Volkswagen has not issued a recall on this dangerously sharp part is appalling!!! I take excellent care of my vehicle and normal wear and tear does not equal a razor sharp edge on a gear shifter boot. This is shoddy craftsmanship and UNSAFE for ALL drivers and passengers. I contacted Volkswagen customer care and they asked me to send pictures of the faulty part and asked me to take it to the nearest dealership so they could assess. The VW dealership assessed the issue and advised they would need to order the part to replace. Volkswagen care agreed to a "goodwill gesture" to have the trim replaced free of charge to me. Fast forward to the dealer replacing the part and I receive the car back...THE TRIM IS STILL RAZOR SHARP!!!! What was the point of that exercise? Volkswagen offered zero help when I advised them of this and closed my case. THIS PART NEEDS TO BE RECALLED SO NO CHILDREN (or ANYONE) GET CUT!!! I am extremely disappointed at how Volkswagen handled this and how they have not done THE RIGHT THING and done a recall for this part. There is precedent for this happening on Volkswagen forums all over the internet!!! I at least want to document this complaint to NHTSA and to point out Volkswagen's bad business practice with this.

  • 11/15/2022· ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

My car started sputtering randomly while I was driving and loosing power. Then when I tried to gas up my car, the car wouldn’t accept the gas. When I got home, gas started overflowing out of the tank all into my garage. It also soaked the whole wheel well with gas. There was no check engine line that came on. There is a current recall for this same issue which VW said is a suction pump problem on other GTI’s but not my car. There are tons of over videos on Facebook/YouTube of the exact same thing happening to them. I had the problem fixed at the dealer but it cost 3500 dollars. I still have all the receipts from the repair cost and I would like to be reimbursed since they expanded the recall but my car hasn’t received this recall even though it is the exact same issue.

I SUFFERED A 2ND CONCUSSION AND WHIPLASH. BOTH TIMES, THE OTHER PARTY WAS AT FAULT AND BOTH PARTIES ADMITTED THEY WERE AT FAULT AND I DID NOTHING WRONG BOTH TIMES. I REQUESTED THAT VW RECALL THESE HEADRESTS AND SEATS AND REPLACE THEM WITH HEADRESTS AND SEATS THAT ARE ADJUSTABLE AND FIT PROPERLY FOR SHORT PEOPLE. MY REQUEST WAS DENIED DESPITE THIS BEING A SAFETY CONCERN WHICH CAUSED MY VEHICLE DAMAGE AND MY BODY WAS INJURED. I, AM, AGAIN, RESPECTFULLY REQUESTING A RECALL SO MY HEADREST AND SEAT WILL FIT PROPERLY AND I WILL BE AT REDUCED RISK FOR INJURY WHEN THERE IS AN ACCIDENT. I was at risk because the presence of raw fuel near ignition sources can cause a fire. Verified at Volkswagen dealership. No warning signs by car when issue first started. Only sign of problem before raw fuel leaking was poor car performance, car stalled and I could not put more than a gallon of gas in the fuel tank.

  • 10/28/2024· FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

The component that failed, according to Volkswagen, is the rollover valve in the gas tank. This issue caused large amounts of gasoline to leak and pool from behind the rear passenger wheel well, creating a significant fire hazard and risk of harm. The vehicle was inspected by a Volkswagen service center as part of the repair process, whereupon the Volkswagen service center documented that the issue was caused by a faulty rollover valve in the gas tank. There were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms prior to the failure.

I HAVE A 2017 GOLF R EQUIPPED WITH DSG TRANSMISSION, AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING AND ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL. OCCASIONALLY THE CAR WOULD MAKE A CONTINUOUS AND PERIODIC CLICKING NOISE THAT CAN LAST FOR A FEW MINUTES WHEN IN MOTION AND WHEN BRAKE IS NOT APPLIED. AS SOON AS I STEP ON THE BRAKE, THE CLICKING STOPS. WHEN BRAKE PEDAL IS RELEASED, THE CLICKING COMES BACK. THE PROBLEM STARTED IN MAY/JUNE 2018 WHEN THE CAR HAD APPROXIMATELY 14000 MILES, AND HAS BEEN DOING THAT EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE SINCE THEN. I BROUGHT IT TO A VW DEALER IN JULY 2018, BUT BECAUSE THIS IS AN INTERMITTENT ISSUE, THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIND OUT THE ROOT CAUSE. THERE WAS NO ERROR CODE EITHER. HOWEVER THEY SUSPECTED THAT THE NOISE WAS COMING FROM CERTAIN RELAYS IN THE ABS / BRAKING SYSTEM, WHICH IS CONCERNING AS IT COULD POTENTIALLY BE A SAFETY ISSUE. • 10/10/2021· FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Safety: Had a charcoal canister saturated with gasoline resulting in a fuel leak; gasoline was dripping down the rear right side of the car via the charcoal filter and soaking the rear fender. Raw fuel was also being pumped into the air intake of the engine (where air is supposed to go). Fuel tank was bulging due to the high pressure and could have cracked. Other symptoms: Had fuel spillback while refueling, and also could not fill the tank because the handle kept clicking. Car was riding rough and jerking randomly. Failed component: Dealer determined a faulty suction pump was causing liquid fuel to fill the charcoal canister while the car is running. This is the same part that was previously recalled in earlier 2015-2016 Golfs (NHTSA Safety Recall Code: 20Y6, published December 2016). My 2017 Golf (16k miles) was manufactured April 2017 and sold to me in October 2017. On the 2017 Golf, the suction pump is now molded inside the fuel tank in an inaccessible location and cannot be serviced; the entire fuel tank must be replaced. Reproduction: The dealer disconnected the vent lines from the fuel tank and proved that liquid fuel was venting out of the fuel tank and into the charcoal canister via the suction pump (see attached invoice). Inspection: The car was not inspected by the manufacturer, only the dealer. Warnings: There were no warnings or lights. When I first noticed my car jerking, I ran my OBD-II scanner and found a code "P0461 Fuel Level Sensor Circuit Range/Performance" but the car did not report this to the driver (see attached image). Rectifications: The fuel tank should be recalled, and Volkswagen should release a software update to make the P0461 code trigger a Check Engine Light.

While driving the vehicle I noticed hesitation and lose of power on the interstate. No MIL or check engine light illuminated on the dash. I was able to get the vehicle back to the house, but noticed a strong fuel smell coming from the car. I walked around the vehicle looking for a visible sign of a fuel leak and saw a puddle by the rear passenger tire. After further investigation I discovered that the fuel was coming from the air filter on my charcoal/evap canister. I did some research and see that VW has an extended warranty out for this issue but it is not currently a recall, Fuel Tank Suction Jet Pump Limited Warranty Extension (VWP-22-2). The safety issue is that while driving and stationary you have raw fuel and vapors on the exterior of the vehicle by an exhaust muffler and the inner fender liner absorbs some of the fuel in its fabric, so with the right circumstances could cause a vehicle fire. Thankfully this did not happen to my vehicle but the potential for it to happen is present. I took my vehicle to my local dealer and they diagnosed this issue but because my vehicle has a salvage title they will not cover the cost for the repairs, even though the reason that my vehicle has a salvaged/total title has nothing to do with the fuel/emission/evap system, so I will be doing the repairs myself. The parts that needs to he repaired are the same parts listed in the previous recall of the earlier model of the VW GTI (Safety Recall Code 20Y6)

My 2017 golf is 21,000 miles now. A gasoline leak occurred. It seems to be the same symptom as 2016 golf recall according to the report as attached. why 2017 golf is not covered for recall? In fact, gasoline leaked onto the street, which was a very dangerous situation. We can provide a video on this matter.

Vehicle EPC light comes on dash. OBD code is "P00AF00 - Turbocharger Boost Control "A" Module". This error causes sudden loss of power and loss of driver assistance (forward collision assist, blind spot assist, cruise control, etc.). Vehicle is available for inspection upon request. Upon checking turbo charger, the wastegate actuator arm is seized up, keeping the wastegate from functioning properly, failing to maintain boost pressure and entering limp mode causing sudden loss of power and acceleration. This has happened while on the roadway, attempting to merge into highway traffic, change lanes & pass other vehicles. This caused the vehicle behind me to close the distance very rapidly almost resulting in multiple rear end collisions. The vehicle has not been inspected by others, yet. The only warning that came on was when it first did it. I had a sudden loss of power, a warning beep from the dash and the EPC light illuminated. It fixed itself after a few moments then occured again. It is now stuck with this error and will not operate accordingly.

I had a suction jet pump recall due on the car. I took it to the dealer to fix. Mind you, I have never had an issue with this car ever. Now about a week later from the car being in the shop I get an engine malfunction light that comes on due to the evap system. Vw dealership of cool springs has not worked with me on this at all and it is frustrating to say the least.

The fuel tank check valve is stuck closed. Gas backs up in the fuel tank neck and spills onto the ground. The auto cannot be refueled and is now covered in flammable material. Fuel may also be leaking from the EVAP canister in the passenger real wheel well.
