- ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECU/ECM)Campaign 21V839000 · 26/10/2021
Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2017-2019 Rogue Hybrid vehicles. Contact with the Electronic Control Module (ECM) bracket may damage the engine harness, causing a blown fuse.
Risk: A blown fuse may cause an engine stall, increasing the risk of a crash.
Fix: Dealers will install a harness protector cover, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 16, 2021. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's number for this recall is R21B6.
- AIR BAGS:SENSOR:OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATIONCampaign 16V244000 · 26/04/2016
Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2016-2017 Nissan Maxima, 2013-2016 Nissan Altima, NV200, LEAF, Sentra, and Pathfinder, 2014-2016 Nissan NV200 Taxi, Infiniti QX60, QX60 Hybrid, and Q50 Hybrid, 2014-2017 Nissan Rogue and Infiniti Q50, 2015-2016 Nissan Murano, Murano Hybrid, and Chevrolet City Express, 2014-2015 Nissan Pathfinder Hybrid, and 2013 Infiniti JX35 vehicles. In these vehicles, the front seat passenger Occupant Classification System (OCS) may incorrectly classify an adult passenger as a child or classify the seat as empty despite it being occupied. As a result, the passenger frontal air bag may be turned off and not deploy in the event of a crash.
Risk: If the passenger frontal air bag does not deploy as intended in the event of a crash, the passenger is at an increased risk of injury.
Fix: Nissan will notify their owners. Chevrolet City Express owners will be notified by General Motors. Dealers will reprogram the Air Bag Control Unit (ACU) and OCS Electronic Control Unit (ECU) in Altima, Maxima, Murano, Rogue, and Sentra vehicles, and replace the OCS ECU in LEAF, NV200, NV200 Taxi, Pathfinder, Infiniti Q50, JX35, and QX60 and Chevrolet City Express vehicles, free of charge. ON 11/21/2020 AT 5:30 PM, WE HAD A CAR CRASH ON A HIGHWAY I-495 (CAPITAL BELTWAY, MD), WE WERE IN OUR CAR (I, MY WIFE, 2 KIDS), WE NOTICED A SUDDEN STOP BY MANY CARS AHEAD OF US IN THE SAME LANE WE WERE IN (LEFT LANE), I PRESSED MY BRAKE AND BEEN ABLE TO AVOID REACHING THE CAR AHEAD OF ME BUT UNFORTUNATELY, THE CAR BEHIND ME WAS VERY FAST WITH NO CONTROL IN THEIR BRAKE THUS, SHE HIT MY CAR FROM THE REAR AND PUSHED ME TO HIT THE FRONT CAR. AFTER WE STOPPED, I WENT OUT TO NOTICE THAT 9 CARS WERE INVOLVED IN THE CRASH. ALTHOUGH IT WAS A BIG AND HARD ACCIDENT, MY CAR'S AIRBAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY, HOWEVER, IT DID OPEN IN MOST OF THE OTHER CARS. DUE TO THE NONDEPLOYMENT OF THE AIRBAG, WE HAD A LOT OF BODY PAINS, WHIPLASHES, AND MY SON WAS HIT IN HIS HEAD (I HAVE AN EMERGENCY INITIAL DIAGNOSTIC REPORT FROM THE HOSPITAL). IN ADDITION, MY CAR EXPERIENCED HUGE DAMAGES FROM BACK AND FRONT, AND EVENTUALLY, IT HAD BEEN TOTALLY UNFIXABLE ACCORDING TO THE INSPECTION FROM THE COLLISION TECHNICIAN. I HAD CONTACTED THE CAR MANUFACTURER (NISSAN) TO OPEN A CASE, BUT THEY DIDN'T CONSIDER THE RISK THAT WE EXPOSED BY NOT DEPLOYING THE AIRBAGS AND THEY IGNORE THAT THEY ARE HAVING ANY PROBLEMS REGARDING THIS ISSUE AND THEY JUSTIFIED THIS INCIDENT BY SAYING THAT AS LONG AS THE CAR BEEN HIT BY THE REAR THE AIRBAG WILL NOT BE DEPLOYED REGARDLESS OF THE HIT STRENGTH.

THIS VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED NEW FROM THE DEALERSHIP, NISSAN OF VACAVILLE, ON 9-16-2017. ON 10-26-2017 WHILE TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH THE VEHICLE'S FORWARD EMERGENCY BRAKING SYSTEM (FEB) SUDDENLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY ACTIVATED, BRING THE CAR TO A FULL AND COMPLETE STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. THE BRAKING SYSTEM DISENGAGED WITHIN A FEW SECONDS AND I WAS ABLE TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THERE WERE NO ADVERSE CONDITIONS, OBSTRUCTIONS, OR VEHICLES WITHIN A DANGEROUS DISTANCE TO HAVE CAUSED THE ACTIVATION. THE DASHBOARD WARNING LIGHTS DISPLAYED THE ALERT MESSAGE "WARNING" "MALFUNCTION." THE VEHICLE WAS SUBSEQUENTLY TOWED TO AUTOCOM NISSAN OF CONCORD FOR SERVICE AND DIAGNOSIS. I WAS TOLD CODES U1002, C1B5D, AND C1A16-97 WERE STORED IN THE COMPUTER SYSTEM. C1A16-97 RELATES TO AN OBSTRUCTION OR BLOCKED RADAR SENSOR, BUT THAT ALL THE STORED CODES WERE IN THE PAST. C1A16-97 WAS STORED AT 1983 MILES - I EXPERIENCED NO ACTIVATION OF THE SYSTEM AT THAT TIME. ACCORDING TO THE DEALERSHIP THERE WERE NO STORED CODES RELATED TO TODAY'S INCIDENT. NISSAN TECH LINE MADE A REMOTE DIAGNOSIS AND CONCLUDED A LOOSE LICENSE PLATE FRAME LIKELY HAD CAUSED AND OBSTRUCTION, ACTIVATING THE SYSTEM. THIS IS IN CONFLICT WITH THE OWNERS MANUAL'S EXPLANATION OF FEB SHUT DOWN IN THE EVENT OF AN OBSTRUCTION. ON 12-19-2017 I RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR. AFTER FOUR DAYS OF DIAGNOSTIC AND ROAD TESTING I WAS TOLD THAT, ACCORDING TO NISSAN TECH LINE, SINCE THE DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE MALFUNCTION DURING THE TEST DRIVE, THEN THE CAR IS CONSIDERED OPERATIONAL AND SAFE AND COULD BE RETURNED TO THE CUSTOMER. AND ALTHOUGH FINDING MULTIPLE PAST CODES STORED ECM-UL00L, ASB-UL002, BCM UL000-00, UL000-01, CLB40-49, CLB30-49, UL000-00, ICC /ADAS-C1B53-04, CLB54-00, UL000-01 ALL INDICATION MALFUNCTION. On [XXX], my grandson and I went to the Nissan Dealership, 1777 N. Central Expressway, Richardson, TX 7080 to inquire about a safety recall of the key fob for a 2017 Nissan Rogue. My grandson was told that he could make an appointment for the dealership to insert a block in the fob so the key remains in the extended position. That position is very difficult to carry in a men's pants pocket. It is also a cheap remedy to the problem. As we were driving along the freeway to make a U-turn, the car stopped mid-turn, with oncoming traffic both behind him and in front. He tried to restart the car but it didn't start. He tried again and it finally started. I cannot believe the NHTSA would allow Nissan to treat this safety issue so callously just to save a few dollars. I am now constantly worried for my grandson and regret helping him buy this vehicle to attend college. We purchased the vehicle on [XXX] so we were checking things out. The dealership did not tell us anything was wrong, we read about the recall in a Carfax. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
- 12/30/2024· AIR BAGS
My 16 year old son was driving the 2017 nissan rogue on [XXX] to our home around 7:30 pm. He veered and right front of vehicle struck a curb. Immediately the passenger side airbags exploded. The two airbag curtain side bags and the front passenger seat side airbag all 3 deployed. First, the airbags should not have deployed and secondly, if this had been a collision with another vehicle, the specific airbags that deployed wouldn't have prevented injury. If there had been a passenger in the front seat, they could have been severely injured by the deployment. The car was towed to a nissan dealership who ran a diagnostic for 200.00. They advised that the cost to replace would be 14K. Given the takata airbag recalls, I should have received a recall notice as I am the original owner of this vehicle. Luckily my son was not injured, but I need to report and hear back from this incident! I believe I should be reimbursed by nissan the replacement value of my vehicle. The contact owns a 2017 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that while driving at 60 MPH, the vehicle had unintendedly accelerated and then inadvertently decelerated. The vehicle was taken to three independent mechanics and diagnosed with mass air flow sensor failure. The mass air flow sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer. The dealer performed an oil change, a brake fluid change, and cleaned the throttle body. The dealer informed the contact to add a fuel injector cleaner to the vehicle twice a year. However, the failure recurred. The contact took the vehicle to Cherry Hill Nissan (2325 NJ-38, Cherry Hill, NJ 08002) and had another oil change and windshield wiper replacement. Cherry Hill Nissan informed the contact that the failure was related to a towel the contact had placed near the driver's side floor mat, which jammed the accelerator pedal. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that there was no recall associated with the VIN. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

I was driving to work and it was about 3 degrees and sleeting. I couldn’t keep my windshield from icing over because the heater was not working right. I get to work, finally, and when I leave work that day my heater was not blowing hot air very much. I make it home, later go to warm up my car and the heater doesn’t work at all. It wouldn’t blow and air. The blower or motor was froze. I call Nissan and the guy in the service department tells me he’s had a lot of calls about that. He said when it warms up it should start working. Sure enough a day later when the temperature goes up a little the blower starts working. Now it does not blow very hot. It was very dangerous driving to work and my windshield freezing over. It had never done that before.

THE FIRST TIME THE VEHICLE MALFUNCTIONED, I WAS DRIVING IN A GROCERY STORE PARKING LOT WITH A PERSONAL FRIEND AND SUDDENLY THE CAR'S EMERGENCY BRAKE PROTECTION ACTIVATED JOLTING THE CAR TO A STOP. THE SECOND OCCURRENCE WAS IN A PARKING DECK (DIFFERENT FROM THE FIRST LOCATION) AND THE CAR AGAIN ACTIVATED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE PROTECTION SYSTEM JOLTING THE CAR TO A STOP. I THEN FELT THIS WAS A SAFETY ISSUE AND BROUGHT THIS INTO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP. THEY CHECKED THE CAR AND CALLED REPORTING THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR AND I SHOULD PICK IT UP. I PICKED THE CAR UP AND CONTINUED TO DRIVE IT UNTIL I SWITCHED CARS WITH A PERSONAL FRIEND WHO USED THE CAR TO DRIVE ONE MILE BACK TO HOME DOWN A 4 LANE ROAD. UPON COMING TO AN INTERSECTION, SHE REPORTS SHE BEGAN SLOWING DOWN AND GOT IN A TURN LANE TO MAKE A LEFT ONTO OUR NEIGHBORHOOD ROAD AND AS SHE WAS APPROACHING THE LIGHT, THE CAR ACTIVATED THE EMERGENCY BRAKING SYSTEM, AGAIN JOLTING THE CAR TO A STOP. SHE STATES DURING AND AFTER THE CAR CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP, SHE KEPT HER FOOT ON THE BREAK THE ENTIRE TIME AND WHILE DECOMPRESSING THE BRAKE, THE CAR THEN JOLTED FORWARD CRASHING INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF HER. I HAD THE CAR TOWED IN TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND HAD CORPORATE NISSAN STEP IN TO INVESTIGATE THE CAR. 6 WEEKS LATER THEY INVESTIGATED THE CAR REPORTING THAT NO ERROR WAS FOUND WITH THE CAR AND AGAIN I SHOULD PICK MY VEHICLE UP. I REQUESTED SPECIFIC TESTS AND ASKED THE TESTING PROCESS FOR THE CAR AND WAS ADVISED BY THE INVESTIGATION DEPARTMENT THAT THEY COULD NOT DISCLOSE THAT INFORMATION AND THAT THE TESTING AND RESULTS WERE "PROPERTY OF NISSAN" AND THAT THEY WERE NOT OFFERING ANY FURTHER ASSISTANCE.

On 12/16/22 while going through an overpass on a expressway/thruway, my 2017 Nissan Rogue automatic emergency braking system suddenly, erroneously and dangerously activated. Vehicle sustained body damage in the course of the sudden, with no reason, defective AEB/FEB engagement. Vehicle was limped off of the expressway/thruway and I called 911 and Triple A for transport to the dealer. I have since learned that Nissan has had thousands of complaints about this serious safety defect. Vehicle is currently at the Nissan dealer being inspected. I do not understand why a recall has not been issued as yet for this ongoing serious safety defect. It is also my understanding that Nissan has issued several corrective action "bulletins" on this matter but there is no real fix. The problem persists. I would never have purchased this vehicle if I had been made aware of the serious safety defect. CarFax Report at time of purchase and service documentation at the dealers do not show that the vehicle ever received any corrective action prior to my purchase of the vehicle in November 2020. I will never feel safe again in this vehicle. I and the occupants of my car on 12/16/22 are lucky to be alive. This serious incident could have resulted in all of our deaths on the expressway/thruway.

The trunk lift gate opens then closes. The safety feature in which it will open if it is close to coming into contact with an object does not work. Sometimes the malfunction is delayed and if an individual is reaching into the trunk , it will come down on their head and possibly close them between the liftgate and the trunk. The trunk was inspected by a Nissan service parts place and they said it coded for needing new spindles which is a $1300 part that is on national back order without an eta. This presents safety issue because it can cause head injury and possible body injury if a smaller sized individual gets closed between the liftgate and the trunk.

THE AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING SYSTEM ON MY 2017 ROGUE ENGAGED YESTERDAY DURING HIGHWAY DRIVING AT ROUGHLY 60 MPH. WHAT A HORRIFICALLY TERRIFYING EVENT. I WAS TRAVELING WITHIN A SINGLE LANE ON A 3 LANE HIGHWAY WHEN OUT OF THE BLUE THE BRAKES LOCKED UP. THE VEHICLE SHUDDERED AND THE CAR WENT FROM 60 MPH TO ABOUT 15-20 MPH IN A MATTER OF A COUPLE HUNDRED FEET. IT FELT AS THOUGH SEVERAL TIRES HAD BLOWN OUT AT ONCE OR THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION HAD COMPLETELY LOCKED UP. I REMEMBER HEARING AN AUDIBLE CHIME AND SEEING SOMETHING ON THE CONSOLE PANEL FLASHING WHAT I BELIEVE TO BE RED WARNING LIGHT WHILE I WAS FIGHTING TO RETAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. WITHIN A PERIOD OF ABOUT 3-5 SECONDS THE WHOLE EVENT WAS OVER AND THE VEHICLE HAD ABRUPTLY SLOWED ITSELF TO THE AFOREMENTIONED SPEED. FORTUNATELY AT THE TIME THE TRAFFIC WAS LIGHT AND THERE WAS NOT ANOTHER VEHICLE DIRECTLY BEHIND ME OR THE CONSEQUENCES OF THIS EVENT WOULD HAVE ENDED TRAGICALLY. THE IMPORTANT THING TO NOTE IS THAT THIS WAS RELATIVELY OPEN ROAD AT THE TIME AND THERE WERE NO OTHER VEHICLES OR OBSTRUCTIONS IN FRONT OR TO THE SIDES OF THE VEHICLE WHEN THIS OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN PROMPTLY TURNED OVER TO NISSAN FOR A FULL REVIEW AND REPAIR OF THE FORWARD EMERGENCY BRAKING SYSTEM.

Shortly after purchasing the vehicle, the airbag warning light illuminated. I took the vehicle to a Nissan dealership in Texas for diagnosis. The technician confirmed that the airbag fault was present before the vehicle was sold to me. According to the diagnostic records, the selling dealer (Kelly Nissan in Oak Lawn, Illinois) had previously scanned the airbag system, identified an airbag fault code, cleared the code without performing the repair, and then proceeded to sell the vehicle. This means the airbag defect existed at the time of sale and was intentionally or negligently undisclosed. The system continues to show a malfunction indicator, and the Clay Cooley Nissan dealership in Richardson, Texas identified the issue as an electrical airbag system failure requiring a repair estimated at $2,304.15. This defect affects the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), which may result in: Airbags failing to deploy during a crash Improper deployment Increased risk of injury or death The vehicle is unsafe to drive in its current condition. The selling dealer refuses to authorize repair outside Illinois, leaving me with an unsafe vehicle that cannot be feasibly transported. Nissan Corporate states this is the dealer's responsibility and will not intervene. Given that this defect relates directly to the federally regulated airbag safety system, I am requesting NHTSA’s investigation into whether this represents a broader issue of airbag system defects or improper clearing of airbag fault codes prior to sale by the dealer.

THE DEALERSHIP STATED THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY VEHICLE AND THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE ISSUE. I BELIEVE MY VEHICLE IS A HAZARD ON THE ROAD AND CAN POTENTIALLY CAUSE A SEVERE ACCIDENT DUE TO THE FAULTY EMERGENCY BREAKING SYSTEM. THE DEALERSHIPS ADVICE IS TO GET BACK IN MY CAR BECAUSE THEY CAN NOT DUPLICATE THE ISSUE, THEY ALSO DO NOT WANT TO SEE THE VIDEO OR THE PICTURE OF THE DASHBOARD WITH THE MALFUNCTION WARNING DISPLAY.

SEAT BELT WON'T BUCKLE (PASSENGER SIDE) AND THE REAR SENSOR IS NOT WORKING. IT HAS BEEN REPLACED FOR A BRAND NEW ONE BECAUSE WE REPORTED THE THE WARNING LIGHT/SIGN KEPT SHOWING. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED IT. BUT THE WARNING LIGHT CAME UP AGAIN WHEN WE GOT HOME UNTIL NOW. AFTER DRIVING FOR A FEW MINUTES, THE WARNING LIGHT/SIGN FOR THE SENSOR WOULD SHOW.

The contact owned a 2017 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that the driver seat failed to move forward or backward. In order to adjust the driver seat excessive force was required and was able to be adjusted after several attempts. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the unknown repair was performed however the driver seat was still not able to be adjusted up or down. The contact then stated that while their husband was driving approximately 60 - 70 mph, the instrument panel suddenly glitched and the vehicle failed to accelerate. It seemed like the vehicle was coasting only. The center computer began turning off and on. The vehicle self-corrected. Next, the front passenger side window failed to move up and down till the driver side window had been moved first. Later that same day, while their husband was driving (mileage unknown) the vehicle suddenly shut completely off. The driver waited a few minutes and was able to drive the vehicle back home where they parked the vehicle. After being parked for approximately an hour the contact was informed by the police that the vehicle had caught on fire and was extinguished by the fire department. A police report was filed. There were no injuries, no medical attention was needed and there was no damage. The vehicle had been towed to the insurance company to be evaluated. The vehicle was deemed totaled. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000.

I was driving 5mph at a drive through Xmas light display. While slowly driving through the display, the vehicle suddenly lunged forward followed by the emergency braking system engaging. Which brought the car to a sudden stop in front of the cars following behind us. I turned the car off then back on. Several lights on the dash remained on after restarting the car. I took it into the Nissan dealership in Rockwall, TX. They told me the ABS control module failed and needed to be replaced. Based on what I was doing at the time of the incident, this sudden failure could have resulted in a potential accident. The dealership also told me this is a know issue on other Nissan's and has been known to cause the vehicles to catch on fire.

- 12/01/2023· ENGINE
Around 80,000 miles our car, when it's been driven about an hour, starts to hesitate when I escalate when slowed or stopped. It's about a 3 second hesitation that is very dangerous if I try to drive across a busy 4 lane road. I have come very close to being hit several times due to this hesitation. I am very aware there has been lawsuits in regards to this. I read in the lawsuit that Nissan put some sort of chip in the engine to allow it to last longer but it also causes this hesitation when the engine gets warm. In order to stop this, I have to literally shut the car off, back on, then this hesitation stops for awhile. It's as if the microchip has been rebooted or something when the car is shut off. I called the dealership here an they say they never heard of this but I find it hard to believe since others like me with this 2017 ROGUE, have the same issues and some have paid for a new transmission. I cannot afford that especially when it's Nissan who is causing it. I did contact Nissan and they told me since the mileage is over 100,000 now they will do nothing. I haven't taken it to the dealer service after a conversation I had over the phone. I was treated unfairly and talked down to for being female. They spoke to me as if I was terribly ignorant. I told them I read about other people's issue with the ROGUE from the class action suit. I didn't just read it off some web page. Besides, even if they diagnosed my car for what I have described, I Don't have the money to replace a transmission and hope to get refunded from some lawsuit years from now. By then I could be dead in that car. Can't afford to get a new car. If you all don't take this seriously, I at least want it filed so that if something happens one of my final requests will to have my husband follow through with a lawsuit. We try to avoid driving situations because of this. Why won't Nissan just replace the microchip? What do I do?

- 11/30/2022· AIR BAGS
Beginning of September 2022 the warning light for passenger side airbags came on. This error causes all airbags to shut off. I-95 Nissan said a new sensor was needed. I had to pay in full for part. They said part was back ordered. When I asked for a loaner car saying my car wasn’t safe I was told “It’s a safe car, just drive carefully ” and “Lots of cars on the road don’t have airbags”. Every week I was told no ETA for part. I took car to private mechanic who verified issue. Filed a report with Nissan corporation, they still have no ETA for part. It has been almost 3 months of no airbags and NO help from Nissan. This car is only 5 years old. This is unacceptable. The response from Nissan is negligent. I have no other option but to drive this car. I can’t afford a new car!
