  • AIR BAGSCampaign 22V031000 · 25/01/2022

Kia Motors America (Kia) is recalling certain 2017-2019 Sedona, Soul, Soul EV, 2017-2018 Forte, and 2017 Forte Koup vehicles. The Air Bag Control Unit (ACU) cover may contact a memory chip on the printed circuit board and damage the electrical circuit. Circuit damage may result in deactivated air bags that will not deploy in a crash.

Risk: Air bags that do not deploy as intended can increase the risk of injury in a crash.

Fix: Dealers will inspect the ACU, and either update the software or replace the unit, as necessary. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed March 21, 2022. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's number for this recall is SC226.

Kia Motors America (Kia) is recalling certain 2015-2018 Kia Sedona vehicles equipped with a power sliding door (PSD). The PSD may not auto-reverse when its closing is obstructed.

Risk: If the door closes on an occupant, there is an increased risk of an injury.

Fix: Kia will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the PSD module software, free of charge. The recall began on June 18, 2018. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's number for this recall is SC164.

  • ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRINGCampaign 19V109000 · 19/02/2019

Kia Motors America (Kia) is recalling certain 2015-2018 Sedona vehicles equipped with manually-adjusted front passenger seats. Over time, the Occupant Detection System (ODS) wiring harness located underneath the front passenger seat may break from the seat being occupied.

Risk: If a child is in a child seat in the front seat, a broken ODS wiring harness will not prevent the front passenger air bag from deploying in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury to the child.

Fix: Kia will notify owners, and dealers will remove the wire harness clip to prevent the wiring harness from breaking. If the harness is found damaged, the front passenger seat cushion will be replaced. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began March 19, 2019. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's number for this recall is SC175.

  • EXTERIOR LIGHTING:TURN SIGNALCampaign 21V725000 · 17/09/2021

Kia Motors America (Kia) is recalling certain 2015-2017 Sedona vehicles. The Smart Junction Box (SJB) software logic may not properly interpret the signals received from the multifunction switch, which could cause the turn signal to activate in the opposite direction of what the driver intended.

Risk: A turn signal activating in the opposite direction of what was intended by the driver increases the risk of a crash.

Fix: Dealers will update the SJB software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed November 12, 2021. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's number for this recall is SC217.

  • 12/29/2023· ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

When I first bought the vehicle from the dealer ship I had a problem of it not wanting to start. That was back in March of 2023. Called. the dealer ship and they said to bring it in of course I couldn’t do that be cause it wouldn’t start and is parked in the garage. After much utubing and such we managed to get it started I live 50 miles from the dealer ship so I did not take it in but occasionally for no reason it will refuse to start it has done this to me at lease 8 times not including today and this time it just will not start. I believe it has something to do with the anti thief program which is in the car. What if it was bad weather out and I stopped some place and could not get it started. I believe I was sold a defective car. The car has only 62,000 miles on it it had only 57,000 miles on it when I bought it. I am an old person and was forced to buy a new car which I thought would not cause me problems. Guess I was wrong.

THE SIZE DOOR MAKES A GRINDING NOISE AND WILL NOT OPEN SOMETIMES. IT DOES THE SAME WHEN I TRY TO CLOSE IT. ON AVERAGE IT IS ABOUT 50/50 AND I AM CONCERNED THAT #1 IT WILL NOT SHUT ONE DAY WHEN WE NEED TO DRIVE IT, AND #2 SINCE THE DOOR DOES NOT OPEN AND CLOSE PROPERLY WHAT IF IT DOES NOT STOP IF SOMEONE IS IN THE WAY OF IT? THIS OF COURSE HAPPENS WHEN THE VAN IS STATIONARY. THIS HAPPENS OFTEN AND I NOTICED IT FIRST AT ABOUT 40K MILES. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THIS IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY.

  • 10/21/2024· ENGINE

My engine seized. When I took it to my mechanic they stated it was due to low compression and that Kia engines were known for this issue. He suggested I take it to a Kia dealer to have them replace the engine. I took it and I was denied the replacement. I did some research and found that this issue was in fact very popular among Kia owners. Some expressing their engines actually ignited. I also found there was a class-action lawsuit against Kia for this exact issue. I noticed all Kia models were included in the suit except for the Sedona. During my research I found a mass of Sedona owners who had the same compression issues. It baffles me why my car wasn't included when it has the exact isdues as the other models made by the same manufacturer. I would like to file a complaint in hopes that other Sedona owners have done the same, and we can bring light to this issue, and possibly a solution.

The left side sliding door does not completely latch when closing. I have looked for obstruction and do not see any. I and my children are very concerned that we will not completely shut the door thus causing it to open when in transit or turning resulting in an unnecessary accident, injury or fatality. Whomever is driving the car has to stand outside and push the sliding door inward as it is latching to attempt to make sur the latch is secure. Please let me know what I need to do to ensure this is addressed with the the NHTSA and/ or KIA.

The car stalled unexpectedly while driving on side roads and highway feeder roads. It first stalled as I approached a stop sign. The rpms quickly dropped from 2000+ to about 500. The car stalled. I put it in neutral and restarted the car. It turned over several times before restarting. After restarting and as I sat in drive at the stop sign, the car rocked back and forth as the engine pulsed. I left the stop sign and pulled into a highway feeder road. I got in traffic and slowed down. The car stalled again. Again, I restarted it in neutral. This time it re-engaged immediately. I pulled ahead in stop and go traffic where it very quickly stalled again. Again I restarted it in neutral where it took a few attempts to restart. I do have video of the tachometer and speedometer as I anticipated this happening. There are tell tale signs that it may happen soon such as sluggish acceleration, quick drop in rpms, and pulsed engine revving not a result of the drivers input. These stalls have happened 20+ times in the last year.

  • 09/26/2024· ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

I am writing to file a formal complaint regarding a serious issue my vehicle has been unusable since July due to a defective AC control head. I initially took my vehicle to an authorized dealership, and they informed me that the part required is on national back order. After an extensive search, they located the part at a dealership in California, but the order was canceled. I was then told that many replacement control heads are being returned as defective, leaving me without a functioning vehicle. The dealership has indicated that the back order could take anywhere from one week to three years, which is an unacceptable and indefinite delay. I am currently unable to use my vehicle because temperatures in the Phoenix metro area average between 105+ degrees during this time of year. As a mother of four small children, it is unsafe and unreasonable to transport them in such extreme heat without a working air conditioning system. The lack of resolution has placed a significant burden on my family’s daily life. I am requesting immediate attention to this matter, as the situation is now impacting our safety and well-being. The widespread issue with defective parts and lack of availability needs to be investigated and addressed promptly. Thank you for your consideration of this matter. I hope that with your involvement, a timely resolution can be reached or, at the very least, clear communication regarding the availability of the required part can be provided.

  • 09/05/2025· ENGINE

On [XXX], while driving my 2017 Kia Sedona on a road trip through Killeen, Texas, the engine suddenly began making a loud knocking noise without any prior warning, leading to catastrophic engine failure and complete loss of motive power. The vehicle became inoperable and was towed to University Kia in Waco, Texas. The day prior, on [XXX], the vehicle underwent a thorough pre-trip inspection and full synthetic oil change at Sun Auto Tire & Service (5117 Golden Triangle Blvd., Keller, TX 76244), confirming it was roadworthy with no issues detected initially, though oil was found leaking afterward (maintenance records attached). University Kia confirmed the catastrophic engine failure, likely related to the 3.3L Lambda engine's known oil pressure switch (OPS) defects, as the OPS had been previously replaced under warranty. Kia Motors America (Case [XXX]) denied liability unless I pay $3,000 for a teardown inspection to prove the failure was due to the OPS, despite the vehicle's eligibility under the WTY026 extended warranty (15 years/150,000 miles). This failure aligns with similar complaints and NHTSA investigations into 3.3L Lambda engine issues, such as oil starvation and sudden seizures. Due to the failure, we missed a prepaid hotel stay in San Antonio, incurred additional hotel stay charges as our trip had to be extended, and incurred costs for a rental vehicle to complete the trip. We bought this van in September of 2023. No known issues… we’ve kept up on regular oil changes etc. Over a month ago a slight tap started happening when vehicle started up, took it three places and all 3 said we needed a new engine. We just hit 100k…. Within two days of those opinions, engine seized while I was driving. No injuries but a car this new with no known issues this is not ok. Zero lights came on the dashboard. No check engine light, nothing. It’s been in a shop for over a month while we wait for a new engine to come in. Would never ever buy another Kia. Dealership and two local places both told us they do not know what happened or why this happened.

I have used gloves when installing them avoiding touching the glass each time. Bulbs seem to fit properly into socket. Called dealer and no advice as to why this reoccurs.

Upon starting the vehicle, a loud sound originated from under the hood, but would not become noticeable after driving it. No indicator light would come on. Two or three days after that began, the sound suddenly became quite loud while driving it, which prompted my husband to pull over. Thankfully we were exiting the interstate anyway. He checked under the hood and wasn’t able to locate a loose belt, which is what it sounded like. He restarted the vehicle and the loud noise continued, so we pulled into a parking lot to call a tow truck. Still, no indicator light came on to let us know anything was wrong. Our mechanic determined there was a rod bearing failure in the engine. Upon further research of this issue, Hyundai and Kia have issued many recalls for this same issue in other engines, but have not done so for Sedonas. One main hazard with this particular failure is the risk of fire.

I was driving and my engine seized and my car is now undrivable. I immediately looked up recalls and see that there were several recalls and recalls surrounding the engine as well. I am told I now need a brand new engine and was referred to file a report as the issue experienced should not have been happening.
