- SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK/TRACTION CONTROL/ELECTRONIC LIMITED SLIP:CONTROL UNIT/MODULECampaign 20V543000 · 04/09/2020Park outside
Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) recalled certain 2019-2021 Tucson vehicles on September 4, 2020. On December 30, 2020, Hyundai expanded the recall population, and added certain 2016-2018 Tucson vehicles. The Anti-lock Brake Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit (HECU) could corrode internally and cause an electrical short, possibly resulting in an engine compartment fire.
Risk: An engine compartment fire can increase the risk of injury or crash.
Fix: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the HECU fuse. For 2019-2021 model years, the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) software will also be updated. Recall repairs will be performed free of charge. Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures as a precaution until the recall repair is complete. The recall began November 2, 2020. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 195.
- ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRINGCampaign 16V842000 · 21/11/2016
Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2016-2017 Tucson vehicles manufactured May 19, 2015, to November 14, 2016, and 2017 Santa Fe vehicles manufactured November 28, 2015, to November 14, 2016. The affected vehicles may be equipped with an accessory trailer hitch wiring harness that, due to a malfunction of the tow hitch module, may result, in the trailer brake lights being constantly illuminated. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, " Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
Risk: If the trailer brake lights stay illuminated while being used, other drivers may be confused, increasing the risk of a crash.
Fix: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the affected accessory trailer hitch wiring harnesses, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin January 13, 2017. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's number for this recall is 153.

MY 2017 HYUNDAI TUCSON IS ONE OF THE MANY VEHICLES THAT HYUNDAI HAS FINALLY ACKNOWLEDGED AS HAVING DANGEROUS ISSUES RELATING TO THE DUAL CLUTCH TRANSMISSION. I HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING TO MY HYUNDAI DEALER FOR TWO YEARS THAT MY TUCSON STUTTERS, STAMMERS AND LOSES POWER WHILE ACCELERATING FROM A STOP. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO ROSEN HYUNDAI FOR THE THIRD TIME TO HAVE THEM CHECK THIS ISSUE ON NOVEMBER 8, 2019, AND I FINALLY RECEIVED A RESPONSE OTHER THAN "WE CAN'T DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM." THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN TOLD ME THAT THEY ARE WELL AWARE OF THE DCT PROBLEMS AND THAT THEY WILL TAKE CORRECTIVE MEASURES TO RECTIFY IT. HE ADDED THAT THE CLUTCH PARTS REQUIRED TO FIX THE PROBLEMS ARE ON BACKORDER UNTIL MID-DECEMBER. (NOTE: AS OF 12/29/2019, PARTS ARE STILL NOT IN) HE TOOK PROMPT ACTION TO OBTAIN A RENTAL CAR FOR ME, SO AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED, ROSEN HYUNDAI HAS (NOW) TAKEN APPROPRIATE ACTION. THE TWO ISSUES THAT I HAVE ARE 1) I HAVE BEEN WITHOUT MY VEHICLE FOR ALMOST NEARLY TWO MONTHS WITH NO UPDATES FROM HYUNDAI ON WHEN ISSUES WILL BE RESOLVED, AND 2) MY VEHICLE IS AN ALL-WHEEL DRIVE SUV WITH NEARLY ALL OF THE AVAILABLE BELLS AND WHISTLES, BUT HYUNDAI HAS ONLY AUTHORIZED PAYMENT TO ENTERPRISE FOR THE "STANDARD" RENTAL CAR. I INSISTED ON HAVING AN ALL WHEEL DRIVE SUV FOR WHICH ENTERPRISE IS DIRECTLY CHARGING ME $7.00/DAY, AND THIS VEHICLE DRIVES LIKE A BIG NOISY TRUCK HAS NO GPS ROUTING AND NOT EVEN A COMPASS. I STRONGLY FEEL THAT HYUNDAI SHOULD HAVE PROVIDED A LOANER VEHICLE OF LIKE TYPE TO ME OR AT LEAST PAY FOR A RENTAL VEHICLE THAT IS EQUAL OR BETTER THAN MY VEHICLE AT NO CHARGE TO ME! I HAVE OWNED 10 NEW HYUNDAI VEHICLES SINCE THE EARLY 2000'S. MY CURRENT TUCSON IS THE FIRST TIME THAT I HAVE NOT FELT LIKE AN APPRECIATED CUSTOMER. I WANT REIMBURSEMENT FOR ALL CHARGES FROM ENTERPRISE (CURRENTLY OVER $350).

2017 Hyundai Tucson is part of engine recalls 209 & 966. Car purchased through Carvana begin of May, after initial recall issued but unaware car was impacted. All that is listed on recall page is CAMP 966 - ENGINE MONITORING LOGIC - VARIOUS MODELS which most certainly does not indicate a major issue or immediate need to address. In August, took car in for oil change and almost immediately had the engine fail. The oil change establishment sent to an automotive garage of their choosing to have replaced. At that time the latest and most severe recall was not yet in place. On November 18, quite rapidly, below warning signs and issues were experienced creating a very dangerous situation. * Abnormal (knocking) noise from the engine * Reduced engine power and/or hesitation * Illumination of the Check Engine warning light * Illumination of engine oil pressure warning light * A burning smell, oil leaking, and/or smoke (all of the above) This the led to stranded on the side of road with smoking, dangerous vehicle. Had to have car towed to the nearest dealership Red Rock Grand Junction which then said couldn’t do anything due to not following initial recall for software. Contacted Hyundai customer service repeatedly to try and remedy situation. Finally case manager stated engine repair would begin immediately, but dealership stated would only start after paying $300 for new battery; battery that worked when car was towed. When stated as much, then again told weren’t responsible for replacing engine due to failure to install the software. Nowhere in the campaign information does it state that this is a requirement. Hyundai had created a very dangerous situation and is refusing to remedy based on loophole leaving people stranded with unusable fire hazard cars by no fault of their own.

ENGINE LOST OIL PRESSURE TO ROD BEARINGS. NO WARNING LIGHTS OF ANY KIND. THE CONNECTING ROD BEARINGS WERE VERY LOUD AND ENGINE STALLED A FEW TIMES. I HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. THE SYMPTOMS CAME ON SUDDENLY, WITHOUT CHECK ENGINE CODES OR WARNINGS. THE FACTORY DENIED RESPONSIBILITY, SAYING THE WARRANTEE EXPIRED. I AM NOT CLAIMING WARRANTEE COVERAGE, BUT THE SYMPTOMS ARE VERY SIMILAR TO RECENT RECALL AND SAFETY RECALL ISSUES FOR WHICH NHTSA FINED HYUNDAI FOR NEGLIGENCE. NJ

- 12/27/2023· ENGINE
Chronic over consumption of oil. You could change the oil and a day later the oil is completely black and burnt. Roughly lost a .5-1quart of oil a week doing minimal commuting. Eventually the wear from oil consumption left us with a cylinder loss and in need of engine replacement. The vehicle only has 65k miles. Clearly this is a serious problem with these cars. There is an active recall for this problem but our VIN doesn’t list. This is also the problem with many others who I have seen across all forums quora, Reddit, etc. We are sold Lemons and then footed with the cost to replace when this problem is very much known. It’s wrong on every level.

I PURCHASED A BRAND NEW 2017 TUCSON NIGHT AND HAVE EXPERIENCED SERIOUS ISSUES WITH THE DUAL CLUTCH TRANSMISSION. THERE IS A LONG HESITATION WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP, MAKING A TURN OR WHEN "COASTING". THERE HAVE BEEN OCCASIONS WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT RESPONSIVE AT ALL WHEN PRESSING ON THE GAS. THIS IS PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS WHEN AT A BUSY INTERSECTION WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC COMING AT YOU. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP TWICE NOW AND AM TOLD THEY CANNOT DIAGNOSE A PROBLEM AND THAT WHAT I AM EXPERIENCING IS "TYPICAL FOR A DCT". THIS IS NOT AN ACCEPTABLE RESPONSE AND IT'S A MATTER OF TIME UNTIL THIS ISSUE CAUSES AN ACCIDENT OR DEATH. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE AND AM VERY UNHAPPY WITH HYUNDAI'S APPARENT LACK OF CONCERN.

SIX MONTH OLD CAR....CAR HESITATES WHEN YOU PRESS ON THE GAS PETAL FROM A STOP. MUST GIVE YOURSELF A MORE THAN NORMAL AMOUNT OF ROOM TO PULL OUT INTO TRAFFIC JUST IN CASE THE CAR HESITATES AS TO NOT GET INTO AN ACCIDENT. ALSO WHILE DRIVING THRU A CHRISTMAS DISPLAY (VERY SLOW MOVING, STOP AND GO TRAFFIC) WITH MY FAMILY INCLUDING A FIVE YEAR OLD CHILD THE TRANSMISSION HIGH TEMP ALARM CAME UP ON THE CAR AND WE COULD SMELL HOW HOT IT WAS GETTING. HAD TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND SHUT THE CAR OFF FOR A WHILE IN VERY COLD TEMPERATURES AT NIGHT WITH OUR YOUNG DAUGHTER. WAITED A WHILE STARTED THE CAR UP AND THEN IT WOULDN'T SHIFT RIGHT. MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE DEALER (HAZLETON PA AUTO MALL) I PURCHASED THE CAR FROM TO HAVE IT LOOK AT. AT THE APPOINTMENT I WAS TOLD BY A MAN AND WOMEN AT THE SERVICE DESK THAT THE OVERHEATING IS A NORMAL REACTION TO STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. NEVER HAD A BRAND NEW CAR WITH 7000 MILES ON IT OVERHEAT AND LEAVE ME SITTING ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I was driving down the road and my “check engine” light came on and started blinking. Immediately afterwards, I noticed that my car acted like it would not accelerate. When I came to a stoplight, it was very sluggish to accelerate. I was right near an O’Reilly’s so I pulled in and had them use the code checker. It showed a P1326 code and I was advised not to drive the vehicle. I had my car towed to the dealership. The dealership called me the next day and advised me that the engine would need to be replaced, but the cost would be covered by an extended warranty. However-they told me it would be 2 months before I would get the car back!! They are not offering a loaner car nor offering to pay for a rental car! There is less than 65000 miles on my car! EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION causing engine failures. Excessive engine oil consumption, will also shorten the service life of, oxygen sensors and catalytic converters, spark plugs and much more. ALL which I have had to replace since buying vehicle used in May 2021. This vehicle is not on the vehicle engine replacement recall campaign and I am not sure why. THERE IS OBVIOUSLY A MAJOR ENGINE MANUFACTURING PROBLEM. Hyundai should be responsible for manufacturing problems and they also should do what it takes to fix the problem. MY REQUEST: for Hyundai to reimburse me the money I have spent fixing, repairing and money spent on oil to operate this vehicle. AS all the information shows, this is a manufacturing issue with the engine and NO VEHICLE should consume/burn this much oil. It has been proven that EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION causes engine and parts failures. THERE are no leaks detected either by the dealership or repair shops. The engine started making a knocking sound when I left home going to work. I thought that I may have gotten some bad gasoline. No lights were showing on the dash. I work about 30 miles away from home. A few miles away from work the knocking sound increased and still no warning lights on my dash. As I got close to work, less than a mile away, the knocking got extremely loud and the check engine light came on when I pulled in to work. I cannot drive this car and I was afraid that I would be stranded on the road somewhere or the engine may catch on fire because I could smell a burnt odor. A mechanic came to my work place and said he thought that the engine would need rebuilding or replacing. Why Hyundai would have a check engine light finally come on after the engine was about fall apart is just stupid.

I am writing to report a serious issue with my 2017 Hyundai Tucson SEL 2.0 that poses potential safety risks. The vehicle is consuming more than 4 quarts of oil every 1,000 miles, which is far beyond normal and acceptable levels. The car has approximately 166,000 miles on it and has been regularly maintained, including timely oil changes. Despite proper maintenance, this excessive oil consumption leads to frequent low-oil warnings, risking sudden engine failure if not continuously monitored. This creates an unsafe driving condition, particularly on highways or during long trips, as the engine could seize without warning. Additionally, I am aware that many other owners of Hyundai vehicles with similar engines have reported comparable issues. This suggests a widespread defect in the engine design or manufacturing process. I am requesting the NHTSA to investigate this matter further to determine if a recall, warranty extension, or other corrective action is necessary to address this issue. Hyundai should be held accountable for resolving this problem, especially since it compromises the safety and reliability of the vehicle. Vehicle Information: Year: 2017 Make: Hyundai Model: Tucson SEL Engine: 2.0L VIN: [Your Vehicle Identification Number here] Thank you for your attention to this matter. I hope for a prompt investigation and resolution to ensure the safety of all Hyundai Tucson owners.

All of a sudden the passenger rear door cannot be opened either unlocked manually or with the remote. I believe it is the actuator. Online forums say this is a huge problem and also a safety risk. If a person cannot exit the vehicle in an emergency this is unacceptable.

The transmission completely disengages and there is 0 power to the car, it just coasts for about 6 seconds and the car slows down. It happens after a turn from a stop, and at slower speeds around 20 - 30 MPH. You push the gas pedal, and nothing happens, the engine does not rev and you just coast (and slow down). If this happens when I’m pulling out in traffic making a left it could be deadly. I promise you there will be accidents due to this defect and I would imagine some people will die because of it. This happens regularly, it is not a one-time incident. I just bought the vehicle a month ago and it's happened 10 to 20 times.

Engine started to make a strange noise and wasn't accelerating like normal, there were no dashboard warning or indocation lights. Less than 24 hours later while driving to a mechanic it got significantly worse within minutes of starting and than while driving on the highway a loud kind of snapping noise occured. The vehicle was not able to accelerate and the engine was completely deadlined and had to be coasted into a lot from an off ramp putting myself and others on the road at risk. A trail of oil was visible from where it had coasted and then below it after it got towed. It was taken to the closest mechanic who informed me there was a hole in the engine block and that the vehicle had a recall. It was then taken to a hyundai dealership where it was verbally mentioned that the vehicle broke due to a recall but since then the only statement has been that it would be repaired under warranty and no diagnosis has been provided.

TAKING OFF FROM A STOP THE TRANSMISSION WILL NOT ENGAGE AND CAUSES THE MOTOR TO SHUTTER. THEN IT WILL GO INTO HIT AT A HIGH RPM CAUSING YOU TO JUMP FORWARD AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED.

My engine began to leak and burned oil to a point where it needed oil changes much frequently than normal. Within 2 months of being made aware of the leak, I began to hear knocking noises. Once I return again to the dealership I was made aware now I needed a new engine. How is it that I've had my vehicle serviced only at a Hyundai Motor dealership and once my warranty is out, I now need an engine? What makes matters worse, there is a current recall on my vehicle year and make for the engine but I was told that my engine doesn't fall under this recall. I beg to differ! I am frustrated that I have yet another Hyundai that has failed me and I am stuck without a vehicle.
