- STEERING:ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEMCampaign 18V663000 · 27/09/2018
Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2017-2018 Honda Civic and CR-V vehicles. The magnet that controls the torque sensor output signal for the electronic power steering system may not be properly secured, allowing the magnet to become dislodged. During a full lock turn, the dislodged magnet may cause steering assist to be applied in the opposite direction.
Risk: The unintended steering input reduces vehicle maneuverability and increases the risk of a crash.
Fix: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the steering gearbox assembly, free of charge. The recall began November 9, 2018. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are C2N, P2O.
- AIR BAGSCampaign 18V266000 · 26/04/2018
Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback and Civic Type R vehicles. Driver and front passenger seatback pads sold as replacement service parts were made without slit openings for the seat-mounted side air bags. In the event of a crash necessitating air bag deployment, the seatback pad would interfere and adversely affect air bag performance. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 214, "Side Impact Protection."
Risk: If the seat-mounted air bags cannot not deploy correctly in the event of a crash, there would be an increased risk of injury.
Fix: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front seatback pads, free of charge. The recall began June 15, 2018. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is E1D, U1B, and X1C.

The front passenger seat weight sensor may crack and short circuit, which can cause the air bags to deploy unintentionally during a crash.
Risk: Air bags that deploy unintentionally during a crash increase the risk of injury.
Fix: Dealers will replace the seat weight sensors, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 7, 2026. Owners may contact Honda's customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are BOL, WO9, OOA, WOM, XOH, NOC, POD, BOE, UOF, POB, EOG, AOI, QO8, TOJ, DO7, and SOK. This recall expands previous NHTSA recall number 24V064. The fuel pump inside the fuel tank may fail.
Risk: Fuel pump failure can cause an engine stall while driving, increasing the risk of a crash.
Fix: Dealers will replace the fuel pump module, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed September 6, 2024. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are KGC and KGD. This recall is an expansion of NHTSA recall numbers 21V-215 and 20V-314.

Fix: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the owners information kit, free of charge. The recall began January 9, 2019. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is O3A.
- POWER TRAIN:DRIVELINE:DRIVESHAFTCampaign 17V706000 · 09/11/2017
Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2017 Honda Civic Sedan and Coupe vehicles. The right halfshaft may have been improperly heat treated, reducing its strength.
Risk: The improper heat treatment can result in the halfshaft breaking, preventing the engine from moving the vehicle, and can allow a possible roll away situation if the parking brake is not engaged. This can increase the risk of a crash.
Fix: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the halfshaft's serial number, replacing it as necessary and aligning the front wheels, free of charge. The recall began December 8, 2017. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is K0E.

Wiring harness was "damaged by rodents" twice due to the swap to soy-based, edible wiring. No other vehicles have this issue in my area and I have lived here 5 years. This damage causes all electrical systems to fail, including power steering, and will eventually result in a fatality - if it has not already. Honda will not cover this under warranty and has done nothing to resolve the issue! The alleged "spicy tape fix" does not deter rodents.

- 12/21/2024· STEERING
When driving straight on a highway, probably 40+ mph, the steering wheel does not respond to small left or right adjustments to maintain a straight line. It feels like the steering wheel is sticky, and takes extra effort to break through the "stickiness." This results in an overcorrection when the steering system finally does respond. This can cause the vehicle to veer slightly into another lane or off the road. I imagine that other drivers may feel I am driving under the influence as the car weaves. The car is available for inspection, however, I have not had the vehicle into service to confirm the issue, nor has the car been inspected by any other party. No warning signs or other symptoms are present.

Fuel injectors failing before 65,000 miles, causing cylinder 1, 2, and 3 misfires consistently. This problem is known by Honda, but was never recalled. This is on all of the 1.5L engine models sold after 2016. They have even created a new part with the necessary flex joints to correct the issue, but charge out of pocket for inevitable and completely unavoidable replacement. This is nearly a $1400 repair from an OEM part that is guaranteed to fail around 60-70k miles. Multiple cylinder misfires have cause complete loss of throttle power and acceleration while driving on multiple occasions, and should provide cause for concern as an inoperable vehicle due to manufacturer quality failure is completely unsafe and should not be pinned on the owner of the vehicle. I have been left with no choice but to save up money, while living paycheck to paycheck in capitalist America, to replace these DEALERSHIP ONLY injectors while risking a flooding of catalytic converter with raw fuel due to system failure. Multiple safety features, including traction control and power steering assistance, are completely inoperable due to these misfires caused by faulty OEM fuel injectors. This issue is a SAFETY concern and also a vehicular health concern. I should not be given the “destroy your vehicle and risk your safety or replace a $1300 part out of pocket” dilemma because of quality failure at production levels.

The steering on my vehicle has spots where it sticks and I have to use more force to continue. I took it to my local dealer and was told the rack and pinion assembly needed to be replaced. I was also told the part I needed was out of stock and they did not know when it would be back in stock. They said they would order the part when it became available and I have heard nothing from them. My car has 41,000 miles on it. I researched and found a recall on this issue but was told it did not apply to my car. I contacted Honda and was told they would not cover it due to the year on my car even with the low mileage. The car is not safe to drive. The longer you drive it the more it sticks .

I have noticed that the paint on my Honda Civic 2017 is flaking and peeling off. The issue is most apparent on the side of the rear view glass and near the right-side tail light which seems to be worsening over time. It was my sister’s car before she gave it to me. She took care of it before she passed away and now I’ll continue to take good care of her car and have not had any repainting or significant damage in the affected areas that I know of. This seems to be an issue with the paint adhering properly, and I am concerned about further damage, including potential rust which I’m starting to notice. I kindly request that Honda evaluate this as a possible manufacturing defect and let me know if it can be addressed under warranty. Attached are photos of the affected areas for your review. Please let me know the next steps to resolve this issue.

The chain stretched and camshaft tensioner had to be replaced. The tech said this could only happen with low or insufficient oil, but every oil change on this car was done on time. There was a previous settlement because this engine has a known defect where fuel gets into the oil. Honda refused to honor the extended warranty agreed to in the settlement because the error codes that came up were PO341 CMP Sensor A and CKP Sensor Incorrect Phase Detected) and we had to pay $2,348.30 for repair of parts (chain, camshaft tensioner) that should have lasted the life of the vehicle without replacement.

My AC stopped blowing cold air in October 2021. The car has 32,000 miles. (There is an error in the dealer report.) I brought the car to an independent mechanic. He said he could not fix the problem because only Honda dealers have the proper coolant for the system. The dealer said the front of the compressor is leaking at the gasket and needs to be replaced at a cost of $1350. This seems to be a common problem in this generation of Honda Civics. Honda has extended the warranty for the condenser, but not the compressor. They need to extend the warranty for the compressor as well. This is an unhealtful situation because leaking freon is not good and because now I have to drive with the windows open and breathe in the exhaust of other cars. Thank you.

I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM HONDA, STATING THAT THE A/C CONDENSER ON MY 2017 CIVIC WAS NOT MANUFACTURED TO SPECIFICATION, WHICH MAY ALLOW REFRIGERANT TO LEAK OUT. THE LETTER THEN STATES IF THE A/C DOES NOT BLOW COLD AIR, TO TAKE THE CAR TO THE DEALER FOR A REPAIR AT NO CHARGE. HOWEVER, WHEN I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER, THEY WOULD NOT LOOK AT THE CAR UNLESS I AGREED TO PAY $330 FOR THE INSPECTION, IN CASE THE INSPECTION SHOWS THE CONDENSER IS NOT LEAKING. I FEEL THAT IF HONDA HAS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE CONDENSER AND IF THERE IS ANY INDICATION OF A POSSIBLE FAILURE (SUCH AS THE A/C NOT BLOWING COLD AIR), HONDA SHOULD PAY TO HAVE IT INSPECTED TO DETERMINE IF THE FAULTY CONDENSER IS THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. BUT HONDA REFUSES TO COVER THE INSPECTION. CAN YOU PLEASE HELP? THANK YOU.

I purchased a 2017 Honda Civic LX from a local Honda. 10 minutes after leaving the dealership, the TPMS lights came on. Please note it was cold outside. Took the car to Autozone to have codes read. Code c0077-78 was detected. Once I got home, I checked the tire air pressure and the tire air pressure was low. I added air to tire afterward. I reset the TPMS and the TPMS light went away. The next day, the light came on for a few seconds after I started the car, but the light disappeared again. I didn't check the air pressure. I took it to Autozone to see if any codes were detected, but no codes were detected and all systems were functional.

THIS ISSUE IS CONSIDERED NORMAL & WITHIN DESIGN CRITERIA. PASSENGER FRONT AIRBAG WILL NEVER DEPLOY IN AN ACCIDENT WHENEVER SOMEONE SITS & WEIGHT DOES NOT ACTIVATE AIRBAG.

- 11/10/2025· STEERING
In the middle of last year, at 44K miles, I noticed my steering was "twitchy". It feels like a magnet is sticking and results in constant steering inputs. This issue has gotten worse overtime and I took it to the dealer in September. They said there was a recall for steering malfunction on several Honda vehicles, but not mine. Reading information online, there are lots of complaints and concerns for multiple years and Honda models that EXACTLY match what I am experiencing. Why are some VIN's begin recalled but mine when I have the same symptoms??? This issue is dangerous at highway at speed. I just drove 500 miles this weekend and had to constantly move the wheel left/right, left/right to maintain my lane. It's exhausting, the steering feels heavy, twitchy and does not hold a straight line. Sometimes you can feel it twitch sitting at a stop light. My car is in MINT condition, garage kept, perfectly maintained and never abused. This is not a wear item. A steering rack should not be replaced at such low mileage. But most importantly, it is dangerous at highway speed and requires EXTREME FOCUS to keep the car in the lane. I will not let my two boys drive this car. I hope this is addressed by NHTSA to prevent injuries or death.

Keep getting LANE KEEPING and ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL errors randomly as well as BRAKE SYSTEM warning lights. Took to Honda and they said my camera and radar were functioning fine and recalibrated to be sure. I’m still receiving error messages daily.
