  The contact owns a 2017 Ford Explorer. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the A-pillar trim on the passenger’s side of the windshield started to detach. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V031000 (Structure); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the A-pillar trim retention clips had failed and needed to be replaced. The dealer informed the contact that the parts were not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 91,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

  For over a year the windshield of my car had a “rattle” or wind-like noise. I figured this was due to the weather stripping around the windshield degrading and falling off. I heard about the recall and the very next day I was driving down the interstate and the plastic piece (A-Pillar) flew off and the car behind me swerved to miss the piece. A day or so after this occurred, large rains came through our area which resulted in water entering my vehicle. I took my car to the dealership a day or 2 later where they had to inspect to see if the vehicle met the recall and order the parts. This was over 3 months ago. I called Ford about 1 month after my vehicle was inspected and spoke to a representative who informed me that the parts are in stock and are being shipped out upon ordering from the dealership. The dealership placed the order the same day they inspected the car. I have not heard any communication from Ford regarding this. I am cornered about water damage in my vehicle due to prolonged issue with not only the weather stripping but also missing the plastic piece (A-Pillar). I have contacted the dealership multiple times and their hands are tied due to not having the parts needed to fix the recall.

  THIS A POLICE PATROL VEHICLE USED AS A K-9 UNIT. DEPUTIES HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING OF HEADACHES AFTER SHIFT. LAST NIGHT THEY HAD TO BE SEEN BY EMS. THEY HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING OF A SULFUR SMELL INSIDE THE EXPLORER. THEY HAD THE FIRE DEPT CHECK THE CARBON MONOXIDE LEVELS AND IT WAS OVER 100PPM. IT IS AT A FORD DEALER NOW AND DO NOT KNOW WHEN IT WILL BE FIXED. THIS IS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS RUNNING. WE HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE FOR A FEW MONTHS NOW AND IT HAS ALWAYS DONE THIS WE JUST DID NOT KNOW WHAT IT WAS.

I have had one pillar trim blow off, risking other drivers on the highway and fear the 2nd will do the same. Ford is not honoring the recall and there needs to be action taken for consumers.

  The A-Pillar trim (passenger side)became detached as I was driving 60 MPH on [XXX]. I paid $350 to have it repaired at because I wasn’t aware of the recall at that time.. The repair shop was Inland Empire Collision Riverside,CA 92507 phone 951.788.4860 Several months later the driver side became detached as I was driving [XXX] .. I took my car to a trusted mechanic & he informed me of the recall. I went to Raceway Ford dealership and the service rep Edwin Garcia file my claim to have my car repaired as well as my $350 refund.. That was 10 weeks ago.. I got a call from a lady (sorry she didn’t identify herself) at Raceway (12/27/24) regarding a recall.. I informed her that Edwin had filed my claim and I would like to know the status… she replied…”give me 10 minutes and I’ll call you back.. I never got a call back. Meanwhile I can’t take my SUV to a automated car wash in fear of it leaking water inside.. Not to mention what a eyesore it is to look at… please put some fire under there feet to fix the problem that I didn’t ask for..   The contact owns a 2017 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that on numerous occasions while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light intermittently illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that coolant was leaking into cylinder #3, and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 96,000.

  The side pillars on both the driver side and front passenger side became loose. There was a definite rattle sound inside the car. Thankfully I noticed it before they flew off and hit another person/car on the highway. This could have led to multiple injuries. When I brought the car back to the dealership they mentioned that this has happened to other cars. Perhaps there needs to be a recall. This only compounds the situation I had in April of 2022. While driving on a highway I suddenly had a rattle in the front window. I discovered that the moulding had rotted and the window was separating. When replaced by the dealership, they told me that they have dealt with this problem numerous times. Is it time to recall and have Ford pay back these expenses?

  I own a 2017 Ford Explorer XLT with 2.3L Eco Boost. It was recently diagnosed with coolant leaking into the cylinder. I was told there is nothing that can be done about it other than buying a new engine. Since August 2022, this car has had the "check engine" light on and has been to several different mechanics and 2 different Ford dealers before finally being diagnosed. After researching this issuer, I have learned that Ford has known about this issue since 2010 and chosen to do nothing about it. I have been driving this vehicle around, not knowing that this problem could cause the engine to catch on fire, endangering all the lives of my family! Ford should take responsibility for this issue and replace the engine!

  TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 30 MPH, THERE WAS A STRONG ODOR COMING FROM INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING. THE FAILURE CAUSED THE CONTACT TO SUSTAIN A HEADACHE, DIZZINESS, EYES WATERED, LIPS DRIED AND HAD CHEST PAIN THAT REQUIRED NO MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LASCO FORD DEALER LOCATED AT 2525 OWEN RD, FENTON, MI 48430 WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE INSULATE 05 AND THE VALVE A009 NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED AND WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,000.

  Vehicle shutters, jerks and loses acceleration between 50 to 60 miles per hour. Can cause accident with other vehicles behind on freeway or any other circumstance. Have had vehicles behind me almost ram the back of my vehicle when this happens. No warning lights on dash. 12/27/23 Dealer says it’s the Torque Converter. Issue occurs every time during acceleration and deceleration. Has been going on for several years but I didn’t know it was an actual transmission problem. Dealer told me when I purchased vehicle that the car had to learn my driving habits and that’s all it is. Has not been inspected by anyone other than dealer

  Car wouldn't start. All the water had run out due to coolent leak near water pump and in finding it they found leak near front engine mount. These are problems that other 2017 explorer owners have also complained about online. In addition, Kirkland Ford stated they are backed up on repairing the toe link and roof repair due to lack of certified mechanics. The 2017 whole vehicle should have been recalled due to the cheap parts used which has caused me to continually go in to have recalls fixed. While there they end up causing more issues causing me thousands in repair bills. I have scheduled with independent car repair shop for them to give me estimate of repairing the above items for January 10 the first date they had available.

  The rubber windshield trim is detaching from the windshield, causing a loud rattling/vibrating noise inside the vehicle. This issue also allows debris to get between the windshield and the windshield frame, causing even further damage.

The contact stated that after restarting the vehicle, the steering wheel was difficult to turn in either direction and the warning messages "steering assist" and "service advanced Track" had been displayed. The vehicle was later taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the steering rack and pinion were faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 136,000.

  On 11/21/22, my car ‘lost’ it’s transmission at 72,704 miles. This is when a wrench light came on the dashboard, and the car went into limp mode-putting myself and my 2 children at risk while driving. I was luckily able to pull off the road. When I restarted the car, the light went off and allowed me to slowly drive back to my house. We had it towed to a Ford Dealership for further investigation. Prior to this incident, the car had been having intermittent issues with shifting gears on hills, and an occasionally clunking noise that paired with it. We had taken it to the dealership and asked them to investigate. They told us there were no issues, that the transmission was fine, which meant no codes. We had just had some powertrain issues resolved, due to other lights associated with the terrain management system. The issues continued, intermittently, but we were unable to get into another appointment prior to its failure. Once in, we were informed that it was ‘rare’ and that while they hadn’t fully investigated the issue the prior time-there had been no computer codes to indicate this would happen. So, now we have no car and an $8200 bill to fix it, as quoted by our Ford Dealership

  Reference NHTSA Safety Recall 24V031. I was notified in February 2024 about the recall and was told the parts would be in at the end of the year. I contacted two dealers and neither has the parts available so they put me on their list to call when they get the parts in. The problem is that the exterior A-pillar trim clip attachments came loose last year on the bottom left side of my windshield. The trim was still attached at the top, but today the whole A-pillar appliqué trim flew off my vehicle while my daughter was driving on the interstate. She said she heard a noise and then saw the trim fly off. She wasn’t sure at first what happened, but she did provide me a picture of my car with the trim missing (see attached). I am concerned about further damage to my vehicle from snowy wet conditions.

  Our Explorer was in the shop for over 4 weeks in September The steering went out randomly while driving. We are lucky that the vehicle did not crash. Called FORD Care and they said nothing they could do. So, we took it to ford, and they tried to get the vehicle to throw codes at no success. They replaced the Rack & Pinion assembly and asked us to pick it up. The problem was worse when we picked it up and returned it to the dealer. They worked with ford tech support to try to fix it again, picked it up and still broke. They took it all apart checking the ball joints and other front-end parts, and decided to replace the Rack again, they called us that it is ready for pick-up. Not sure yet if it is fixed but call Ford Care again. They said sorry, after pushing the said to contact Ford Consumer Affairs. They also said that there is no recall for this issue so there is nothing they can do. If the first Rack from ford was bad, this caused us to wait an additional 3 weeks while the dealership worked with ford tech. The onboard diagnostic should help the dealership with solving steering issues. How many people will have to go thru this before there is a recall? The dealer was awesome thru this whole ordeal. I can go on and on about spending over 2k, but hope. Total of 6 weeks in the shop. Now, mid December 2023, the car is still doing it, this time the car crossed the double yellow on RT 12 a major highway here in Illinois. They have had the car for 2 more weeks and can not fix it. They said they will be working with Ford again.

The vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road and restarted; however, the failure persisted. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V530000 (Steering). The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 109,000.

  The gasket/seal surrounding the windshield on the passenger side front windshield was breaking off in sections. I had the dealer look at it while it was in the shop for some other recall work since I had only noticed it the day or so before. I was told it was the Pillar Moulding was coming apart but it was not a covered item. (Oct 2022) and the gasket itself was a wear and tear item. The gasket has continued to come off and has now caused the windshield to leak substantially.

  Water leaking in the drivers side frame that goes down the inner column by the dash onto the floor board, leaks above the driver visor, and in the back frame in the trunk of driver side. I have had it checked over by a Ford dealer twice and they claim it was my sun roof-which it is not. When I tried to have it checked again with a non Ford mechanic, it’s been too cold and rainy so the problem cannot be found. It has gotten worse in my car, water damage to the dash and I get condensation that forms on the inside of my windshield. Thought it occurred due to the windshield guard cover recall but that isn’t the case.

  I purchased 2 2017 ford explorers and they both developed the same problem . The plastic windshield pillar facia trim breaks off at highway speed. Not only is this a dangerous distraction to the driver, the part flying off at 65 mph becomes a projectile that is a hazard to vehicles following behind. Based on forums, you tube videos, and the availability of aftermarket replacement trim, this would appear to be a wide scale problem.

  VERY STRONG ODOR OF EXHAUST FUMES INSIDE CABIN. I WAS USING THE CAR'S AUTOMATIC START FEATURE AND WHEN I GOT IN CAR TO DRIVE KIDS TO SCHOOL, YOU COULD SMELL EXHAUST THROUGHOUT CAR. JUST RECENTLY PURCHASED CAR AND NOTICED THIS ISSUE ON 2ND DAY OF OWNERSHIP. They have not made any effort to redesign the parts so they don't fail and they have made no effort to even replace the failed parts with the existing parts. The last time the recall was issued, I was advised by our dealer to use duct tape.

The vehicle was driven to the residence and while the vehicle was parked, the contact noticed that water and coolant were leaking under the engine compartment. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 131,000.

The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V031000 (Structure); and later became aware that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V316000 (Structure); however, the parts to do the recall repairs were not yet available. The contact stated that the trims around the windshield, including the driver's side and passenger's side windshield exterior A-pillar trims, were disintegrating and had partially detached. The contact was initially informed by a car wash employee about the trim failures and advised the contact that the vehicle was unsafe to drive through the car wash. The local dealer was contacted and informed the contact that the VIN was not under recall. Additionally, the dealer informed the contact that there was no early availability to perform the inspection on the vehicle. Additionally, the contact stated that the roof rail cover was partially raised. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repairs. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

  I was driving down the road and my roof driver's side roof rail flew off. The previous owner had the recall addressed in 2023. The previous dealership who fixed the vehicle glued down the rails instead of installing new screws. There is dried glue now exposed where the roof rack use to be. When contacting Ford they claim there is no resolution but for me to fix my own roof rack though it was recalled for this issue. Thankfully no one was behind me when it flew off but it could have hit someone else or damaged my window that it hit when it flew off. The passenger side is also loose and showing the dried glue as well. Ford states that since the warranty period has expired there is nothing they can do. I cannot find the roof rail on the road to put it back and have been told it is $400+ just for the part. This is a safety hazard that was supposed to be fixed and there is no telling when the next one will come off as that is loosening as well.

  The transmission stops switching gears after going 70 mph on the highway no acceleration was possible Just stopped working. I had my kids with me I had a tractor trailer behind me and in front of me and beside me on a very busy highway going 70 mph and the transmission just stopped working no gas was it was just redlining when it was supposed to be accelerating no gears were reached I had to throw it in park throw it back into sports mode they're back into drive they're back into sports mode they're back in the drive before it kicked in and would go all while in the middle of a busy highway and not able to get off the road and declining in speed. The manufacturer or Ford did purchase the vehicle from me and made me roll over my negative equity from that car into a new car was my only option or paying 10 grand to get it fixed. Nothing no lights were displayed no lights came on at all no warning signs nothing Just happened. When I took it in to get it looked at the mechanic immediately told me that I need to trade the car in and that I shouldn't have this vehicle it's transmission has been having multiple issues over four times in one year it was in the shop for transmission issues they told me nothing was wrong and they drove my car 200 mi they gave it back to me not even two weeks later this happened no lights and nothing was pulling on the codes The mechanic Harper from Malloy Ford is the one that told me that I should need to trade it in he contacted the Ford company they offered $2,000 to help with the cost to get the car fixed but it wasn't going to fix the problem from happening again and it was traumatizing to have to go through that with my kids I didn't want to put my kids back in that vehicle because we literally could have died.   WHILE MY VEHICLE WAS PARKED ON MY FLAT DRIVEWAY MY DAUGHTER BACKED HER FORD EDGE INTO THE REAR OF THE EXPLORER AT A LOW RATE OF SPEED. THE EXPLORER WHICH WAS NOT RUNNING AND WAS TURNED OFF AND IN PARK AT THE TIME ROLLED OFF THE DRIVEWAY. ROLLED THROUGH AN OPEN LOT BEHIND OUR HOUSE. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ROLL THROUGH THE OPEN LOT AND CROSSED THE NEIGHBORHOOD STREET BEHIND OUR HOUSE. THE VEHICLE THEN ROLLED THROUGH ANOTHER VACANT LOT, AND ROLLED DOWN AN EMBANKMENT THROUGH ANOTHER LOT. THE VEHICLE STOPPED ONLY AFTER STRIKING A TREE AND COMING TO REST. IN ALL THE VEHICLE TRAVELED APPROX 300 YARDS AND HAD IT NOT STRUCK THE TREE IT WOULD HAVE CROSSED A BUSY TWO LANE ROAD. I GOT TO THE VEHICLE IT WAS LOCKED AND IN PARK. THERE WAS A GOOD AMOUNT OF FRONT END DAMAGE AND THERE WAS NO AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE BACK TO OUR HOUSE BUT IT COULD NOT BE DRIVEN ANY FURTHER.

  WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY THE BACK SEAT IN FOLDED DOWN POSITION CAUGHT FIRE AND BURNED A 12 INCH HOLE THROUGH TOP AND BOTTOM OF SEAT. TO OUR KNOWLEDGE THE SEAT HEATER WAS NOT ON THE INDICATOR LIGHT WAS NOT ON.

  I am reporting a safety-related defect involving the electric power steering system on my 2017 Ford Explorer. The vehicle displays a “Steering System Fault” warning, and when this occurs the power steering assist is reduced or disabled, creating a safety risk during low-speed driving, turning, and parking. When the ignition is on with the engine off, multiple communication fault codes appear, including U0100, U0131, U0140, and U0151. After the engine is started, these communication codes disappear, but the steering fault warning remains illuminated and no active fault codes are stored. This behavior indicates the steering system enters a fail-safe state during startup and does not recover. The battery was tested and replaced. Fuses, relays, wiring, grounds, and voltage drop during engine cranking were checked and found to be normal. Steering system reset and relearn procedures were performed using diagnostic tools, but the issue persisted. No external electrical or communication network problems were identified. Based on these findings, the problem appears to be an internal failure of the electric power steering rack or its control module. The loss or reduction of steering assist can occur without warning and increases the risk of a crash. This issue is commonly reported on 2016–2018 Ford Explorer vehicles, suggesting a design or durability defect. I am submitting this complaint to request that NHTSA investigate this condition as a potential safety defect.

  Safety Recall Notice 24S02/NHTSA Recall 24V031 - Exterior A-pillar applique trim clip attachments may not be properly engaged due to improper assembly. Two-step solution is required: Ford dealer has to check to see if the clips are properly engaged or not, then, if not, must order the correct parts from Ford. I have been trying to correct this issue for over two years, but dealer says the parts are still on back order from Ford and repairs cannot be made.

  - The weather stripping around my front windshield failed and caused the molding around the windshield to also fail. - This failure occurred while driving at highway speeds. The flying debris alarmed me and could have obstructed my view. It could also have hit another vehicle and caused an accident. - There are instances online of this happening to Ford Explorers. Unknown if it has been inspected by dealers. - My vehicle has not yet been inspected for this defect. - There were no warning lamps or messages/symptoms before this failure. It first appeared on 12/1/2022. My vehicle is a 2017 and at 56000 miles.

  The keyless entry door panel on the driver’s side door is coming undone and vibrates while driving. Others have said theirs has come off the vehicle while driving. Will be contacting the dealership.

  PURCHASED 2017 FORD EXPLORER NEW WITH ONLY 549 MILES. 16 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE, AT APPROX. 39,000 MILES, TORQUE CONVERTER WENT OUT AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. 16 MONTHS LATER, AT APPROX. 79,000 MILES, TORQUE CONVERTER WENT OUT AGAIN AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. I BELIEVE THIS TO BE YET ANOTHER FAULTY FORD TRANSMISSION ISSUE, AS I AM A DAILY COMMUTER AND KEEP MY VEHICLES WELL MAINTAINED.

  The contact owns a 2017 Ford Explorer. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, an abnormal flapping noise was coming from the vehicle. The contact stated that the exterior trim clip around the windshield had detached and flown off the vehicle. The contact stated that the clip on the other side of the windshield was loosened and was removed due to it becoming a potential road hazard. The contact then received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V031000 (Structure); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was made aware of the issue and an appointment was scheduled to repair the vehicle. The contact was later informed two weeks later that parts were unavailable. The vehicle was returned to the contact. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
