NHTSA has flagged a recall on this vehicle as severe. Contact a dealer immediately; recall repairs are free.

  • POWER TRAIN:TRANSFER CASE (4-WHEEL DRIVE)Campaign 26V289000 · 07/05/2026Do not drive

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2026 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Suburban, and Tahoe, and GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles with four-wheel (4WD) or all-wheel drive (AWD), and certain 2015-2020 Suburban, Escalade, Escalade ESV, Yukon, Yukon XL, and Tahoe vehicles. A component missing from the drivetrain transfer case may cause the front and/or rear wheels to lock up without warning to the driver.

Risk: Front or rear wheel lockup increases the risk of a crash.

Fix: Owners are advised not to drive their vehicle until the remedy is completed. Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the transfer case assembly, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 18, 2026. Owners may contact GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or Cadillac customer service at 1-800-333-4223. GM's number for this recall is N262557620. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on May 7, 2026.

  • SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK/TRACTION CONTROL/ELECTRONIC LIMITED SLIP:WHEEL SPEED SENSOR/TONE RINGCampaign 19V761000 · 24/10/2019

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2015-2020 Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe, and GMC Yukon, and 2014-2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles equipped with a 5.3-liter engine, a 3.08-ratio rear axle and four-wheel drive. If a wheel-speed sensor fails, while the vehicle is traveling between 41 and 60 mph in four-wheel or automatic mode, the Electronic-Brake Control Module (EBCM) software may activate the driveline-protection system.

Risk: Unintended activation of the driveline-protection system will cause unintended braking on the wheel on the opposite side of the failed sensor, causing the vehicle to pull to one side unexpectedly, increasing the risk of a crash.

Fix: GM will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the EBCM, free of charge. The recall began December 11, 2019. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-630-2438 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N192261050.

  • AIR BAGS:FRONTALCampaign 16V651000 · 08/09/2016

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2015-2017 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD, 3500 HD, Tahoe, Suburban, GMC Sierra 2500 HD and 3500 HD, GMC Yukon, GMC Yukon XL, Cadillac Escalade and Cadillac Escalade ESV vehicles and 2014-2017 Chevrolet Corvette, Silverado 1500, Trax, Caprice Police Pursuit Vehicle, GMC Sierra 1500, Buick Encore, and 2014-2016 Buick Lacrosse, Chevrolet Spark EV and SS vehicles. In the affected vehicles, certain driving conditions may cause the air bag sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) software to activate a diagnostic test. During this test, deployment of the frontal air bags and the seat belt pretensioners would not occur in the event of a crash.

Risk: A failure of the front air bags or seat belt pretensioners to deploy in the event of a crash necessitating deployment increases the risk of injury to the driver and front passenger.

Fix: GM will notify owners, and dealers will reflash the SDM software. Vehicles that have had a previous air bag deployment will have the SDM replaced. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on October 13, 2016. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300, Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 16007.

  • SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:POWER ASSIST:VACUUMCampaign 19V645000 · 06/09/2019

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2015-2017 Cadillac Escalade, 2014-2018 Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, 2015-2018 Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Yukon vehicles. The amount of vacuum created by the vacuum pump may decrease over time.

Risk: As the vacuum level drops, the brake assist decreases, increasing braking effort, extending the distance required to stop the vehicle, thereby increasing the risk of a crash.

Fix: GM will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the Electronic Brake Control Module, free of charge. The recall began October 8, 2019. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-630-2438, Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N192268490.

MY 2017 CHEVROLET TAHOE FELT VERY STIFF WHILE ACCELERATING AND STARTED SUDDENLY JERKING AND BACKFIRING WHILE IN MOTION AS IF WE WERE REAR-ENDED. IT WOULD FEEL AS IF IT WAS STUCK OR STRUGGLING TO SHIFT GEARS AND BOTH THE TRANSMISSION AND ENGINE LIGHTS CAME ON . WE TOOK IT TO THE NEAREST CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP THINKING IT WAS A MINOR ISSUE BEING STILL FAIRLY NEW BUT WAS TOLD THE WHOLE TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THERE IS NO WAY A 3 YEAR OLD CHEVROLET TAHOE WITH LESS THAN 100K MILES THAT'S BARELY BEEN DRIVEN DUE TO COVID NEEDS A NEW TRANSMISSION. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS AS THESE MECHANICAL PROBLEMS COULD CREATE UNSAFE CONDITIONS FOR OTHER OWNERS.

There is a trailer brake warning that comes up ALOT! Even more when it is raining or cold out . It beeps continuously, can’t see the speed I am going because it’s always flashing trailer brake warning. When I dismiss the message it pops on again and again. I have read up on this VERY COMMON ISSUE , alot of people are having with the trailer brake system warning. It makes the radio system even go crazy . And me Crazy! Constantly hearing the beeping over and over .

VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING ON I-55 SOUTH BETWEEN THE GLUCKSTADT AND MADISON EXITS AROUND 5:45PM ON 12/21/18 WHEN THE SUNROOF EXPLODED SENDING CHARDS OF GLASS THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO OTHER VEHICLES CLOSE BY AN NO OVERPASSES WITHIN 2 MILES OF WHERE THE GLASS FAILURE OCCURRED. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN THAT CHEVROLET NEEDS TO BE AWARE OF. THE SUNROOF GLASS WAS IN PERFECT CONDITION AND NOTHING HIT THE GLASS TO CAUSE THE EXPLOSION. I HAVE PHOTOS OF THE DAMAGE CLEARLY SHOWING THAT THE GLASS BLEW OUT FROM THE INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE, FURTHER SUPPORTING THE FACT THAT THIS WAS A FACTORY DEFECT.

The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while driving at 75 MPH, several unknown warning lights flashed on the instrument panel, and the vehicle briefly shut off, then restarted while still in motion. Later, while driving at 45 MPH and attempting to complete a turn, the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power. The contact was unable to pull to the shoulder of the roadway, but the vehicle was able to restart. After restarting the vehicle, the vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. The stability control warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed failures with the alternator and transmission. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V761000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic, Service Brakes, Electronic Stability Control), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

My transmission is slipping and causing safety concerns while driving on the highway. It’s a 2017 Chevy Tahoe that has less than 100,000 miles and we have been reading on the internet about many others having the same problem. We just took it to a shop and they informed us that it’s a common issue with this model chevy and it will cost $5,000 to replace the transmission.

While driving in a parking lot to go thru a drive thru to pick food I was moving at a slow speed 10 to 15 mph and slowing to a stop my brake pedal became very hard to push and my Tahoe did not stop right away. I almost hit the car in front of me. I put the vehicle in park, turned it off, waited 30 to 45 seconds, turned the vehicle back on and put it in drive and slowly started moving in the drive thru line. When I stepped on the brakes to stop again the pedal got hard to push again and it did not stop right away. Brake Assist warning came on in the dashboard when I moved and tried to stop again. I drove home with extreme caution and as I was rolling into my driveway the same thing happened again that happened in the drive thru. I have parked my Tahoe and will have it towed to dealership.

HARD BRAKE PEDAL RESULTING IN LITTLE OR NO STOPPING POWER WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES AT LOW SPEED. TO GET THE VEHICLE TO STOP, YOU MUST STOMP ON THE PEDAL AS HARD AS YOU CAN. THE SITUATION TYPICALLY OCCURS WHEN PARKING. THE BRAKE APPLICATION OR TWO ARE FINE, BUT AFTER THAT THE BRAKES FAIL. AND ALSO MAKE A VIBERATION IN THE BRAKE PEDAL WHILE SOUNDING ROUGH! THE SERVICE BRAKE ASSIST WARNING MESSAGE WAS DISPLAYED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT ENGAGED THE PARKING BRAKE TO STOP THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING UP AN INCLINE. THE NEXT DAY, THE BRAKES RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION ON THE DRIVE HOME. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SINCE THE FAILURE, HE HAD EXPERIENCED INTERMITTENT BRAKE FAILURE WHILE TRAVELING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, WITH THE SAME WARNING LIGHT FLASHING ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TITUS-WILL CHEVROLET BUICK GMC CADILLAC (2425 CARRIAGE LOOP SW, OLYMPIA, WA 98502) AND IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY A DEFECTIVE VACUUM PUMP. THE VACUUM PUMP WAS REPLACED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE SAME DEALER WHERE IT REMAINED IN THEIR POSSESSION UNREPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD YET TO BE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 75,300.

  • 12/08/2022· SERVICE BRAKES

When driving at low speeds, the brakes are hard to engage which can result in crashing into objects/people without being able to safely stop. This happens in parking lots, stop and go traffic on the busy interstate and in drive-thrus. This can be dangerous for the driver/passengers and others outside the vehicle or objects. This is also a huge safety issue when driving down a steep incline at low speeds and having to pull out into traffic due to it not stopping appropriately. Vehicle has been inspected by a mechanic however there are no warning lamps illuminated. As stated before, brake issue happens only at low speeds. From my understanding there was a recall for this same issue for vehicles of certain years 2015-2018, specifically Tahoe being in the category.

It started fine and when I put it in drive and pressed the accellerater it wouldn’t move. I pressed it again and the vehicle jerked forward into my lawn causing me to brake hard. I put it in reverse and it backed up fine. Again, I put it in drive but it wouldnt go forward. It acted as if it was in neutral. I turned it off and tried again receiving the same results. Also the transmission mechanic was outside smoking and I vape so I started a conversation with him about these 6 sp transmissions and he said “ I can’t count how many I’ve replaced” “ even with less than 80k miles. Our vehicle almost hit another car in line for pre-school with children around and almost hit our garage doors due to this issue. Full recall in Canada but not USA? Why? "The amount of vacuum created by the vacuum pump may decrease over time. As the vacuum level drops, the brake assist decreases, increasing braking effort, extending the distance required to stop the vehicle, thereby increasing the risk of a crash"

ON MY WAY TO WORK ON THE FREEWAY ABOUT 10 MILES OUT I STARTED HAVING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS,IT WASN'T SHIFTING RIGHT AND AND SOMETIMES IT WOULD STAY ON ONE GEAR TOO LONG AND THE RPM WOULD STAY AT 4500RPM BEFORE IT SHIFTS AND THIS IS WHILE CRUISING AT 65MPH. AND WHEN I TRY TO ACCELERATE I WOULD HEAR A HUMMING/WHISTLING SOUND FROM WITHIN AND I COULDN'T GO PAST 70MPH. THEN THE 'CHECK ENGINE' LIGHT CAME ON. WHEN I GOT TO A STOP SIGN AFTER GETTING OFF THE FREEWAY MY TAHOE WOULD HESITATE WHEN I STEPPED ON THE GAS. WHEN I GOT TO THE PARKING LOT I TRIED TO BACK-IN TO PARKING SPACE AND MY TAHOE WOULD NOT GO ON REVERSE. AND WHEN I WAS LEAVING THE PARKING LOT TO TAKE MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TO GET CHECKED OUT,WHEN I PUT IT ON DRIVE NOTHING HAPPENS AND AFTER ABOUT 10 SECONDS THE VEHICLE JUMPED INTO GEAR AND JERKED IT FORWARD WITHOUT STEPPING ON THE GAS SO MUCH SO,THAT THE REAR TIRES EVEN SCREECHED A BIT! I just experienced an issue with my transmission, I was driving home from work in cruise control and started up a bridge when my vehicle seemed to disengage the clutch and start rapidly slowing down (I was going up the incline of the bridge) and the motor redlined trying to maintain speed. I immediately switched it back into regular drive mode and noticed that the engine was not engaging with the transmission. I then placed the column shift into the manual setting and dropped down to 3rd gear, the tahoe gave a really abrupt and hard impact on the transmission and I got it to reangage to continue up the incline. This happened more than a dozen times in the remaining 15 miles to my home, both in and out of the manual setting. I did not attempt to go back to curise control. When I got home I turned the car off and checked the trans fluid level and saw nothing on the dipstick, I let it cool off and I have fluid past the "hot" mark and into the S curve of the stick. I was able to determine that my transmission was having a majority of its issues beyone 3rd gear. After doing some very quick research on Google it appears that I'm not the only one having transmission issues, primarily with 3rd and 4th gear of this year make and model. Is this something that is being investigated? My vehicle has 103k miles and is planned for a fluid change in the next couple of weeks (transmission, transfer case, and rear differential), per the O&M book that came with the vehicle. This just happened today and I have not had an opportunity to reach out to the dealership to question them about it. There were no warning indicators or error messages during the drive or during the time this occurred. All recall notices have been repaired on the tahoe to date, and I have kept up with the other fluid changes and other misc o&m recommendations. Please, any feedback would be very appreciated as this is my primary and safest vehicle to transport my kids.

Transmission on my 2017 Chevy Tahoe failed and needs a complete replacement. I notice a class-action lawsuit has been filed for other Chevy models but the Tahoe was not include although it has the same transmission/gearbox. I was on a major interstate when the transmission failed causing the vehicle to decelerate. The car was towed to a Chevy dealership where they have confirmed the transmission needs to be replaced and this has been an ongoing issue with this vehicle. There were no warning lights prior. The check engine light came on after the transmission failed.

Brake assist warning after brakes began to fail. Had trouble stopping in line at drive through. Strange sensation in break peddle and pressure changed from loose to real tight. Looked up recall, but said there are 0 recall services needed. Scary

I was driving this vehicle in rush hour traffic and the check engine light came on and it suddenly lost power and wouldn't shift gears. I pulled off the road and placed the vehicle in park. At that moment I received an email from Chevy OnStar stating my transmission had a problem and to take it to the dealership. I had it towed to the dealer and was informed that the torque converted had failed and there were metal bits in the transmission fluid. The transmission had to be completely replaced to the tune of $6450.00. This vehicle has under 67K miles. There were no warnings prior to this incidence. This vehicle has been maintained at the prescribed GM service intervals.

The brakes become very hard to engage while at a low speed, consistently in traffic and the car rider line at school. It has caused me to almost hit cars in front of me and people walking between cars. To me, it feels like the brakes are sticking and not releasing fully when I release the pedal to recoil and as if a line is going to be filled with pressurized air to work again and it is not able to do so. If i wait and let the cars go far ahead of me and the blast without using brakes, there isn’t a need to keep using the brake m, but this is not how to drive in traffic and it isn’t safe. It also is scary to not rely on the function of my brakes and it is putting people at risk every day I drop my kids off or kick them up from school. I have had the brakes evaluated for repair, but I am told there is no issue with the brake pads or roters. No warning lights. It resolved after having my brakes evaluated and tires replaced, but it has returned.

At low speeds mainly backing up the abs will kick in on dry blacktop. Sometimes slowing down for a stop sign i can feel the brake pedal pulsing which leads me to believe its the abs kicking it when its not supposed to be. The tahoe has newer brakes and new tires.

About 3 weeks ago my vehicle began shuddering during acceleration only at low speeds, and I had an appointment to regularly scheduled maintenance next week and planned to have the dealer look at it during that appointment. However, 3 days ago, at about 84,479 miles I was merging on to the highway and when I attempted to accelerate to highway speeds the tachometer jumped to 6000 rpm’s and became very sluggish when accelerating. It calmed down, but shortly after calming down, the tachometer spiked again to around 4500 rpm’s at 70mph, the check engine light came on and the vehicle temporarily stopped responding to any input except to raise the tachometer reading. After shifting into manual and back into automatic the transmission reengaged but would not allow for normal acceleration. The vehicle was able to be driven at approximately 30-35mph while the tachometer stayed consistently at around 3500-4000 rpm’s. The trouble codes given were P0700 and P0796, both relating to transmission indicating a problem with it.

Our transmission failed and had to be replaced. When reviewing with staff, no surprises. They were aware that this transmission can be problematic.

The power steering motor went out while I was driving. The message center on my dashboard alerted me just seconds before I couldn't steer. Luckily I was on a residential street and was able to get out of the road with a lot of effort steering. The car was taken to a local mechanic and we were told the power steering motor went out. The mechanic ordered the part and replaced it. The process took 3 weeks total to get the part, replace it and Chevy dealer reprogramming it.
