Do not drive this vehicle — urgent recall

NHTSA has flagged a recall on this vehicle as severe. Contact a dealer immediately; recall repairs are free.

  • SUSPENSION:FRONT:CONTROL ARMCampaign 16V256000 · 28/04/2016Do not drive

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2016-2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and 2016 Cadillac Escalade, Cadillac Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Suburban, Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Sierra, GMC Yukon and GMC Yukon XL vehicles. The front upper control arms may have inadequate welds near the control arm bushing.

Risk: Inadequate welds may allow the control arm to separate from the bushing, compromising steering and increasing the risk of a crash.

Fix: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the left and right front upper control arms and realign the vehicle, free of charge. The recall began on May 18, 2016. Until the repairs have been made, owners are advised not to drive their vehicles. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 42190.

  • SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK/TRACTION CONTROL/ELECTRONIC LIMITED SLIP:WHEEL SPEED SENSOR/TONE RINGCampaign 19V761000 · 24/10/2019

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2015-2020 Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe, and GMC Yukon, and 2014-2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles equipped with a 5.3-liter engine, a 3.08-ratio rear axle and four-wheel drive. If a wheel-speed sensor fails, while the vehicle is traveling between 41 and 60 mph in four-wheel or automatic mode, the Electronic-Brake Control Module (EBCM) software may activate the driveline-protection system.

Risk: Unintended activation of the driveline-protection system will cause unintended braking on the wheel on the opposite side of the failed sensor, causing the vehicle to pull to one side unexpectedly, increasing the risk of a crash.

Fix: GM will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the EBCM, free of charge. The recall began December 11, 2019. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-630-2438 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N192261050.

  • AIR BAGS:FRONTALCampaign 17V437000 · 10/07/2017

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2014-2016 Buick Lacrosse and Chevrolet Spark EV, Caprice PPV and SS vehicles, 2014-2017 Buick Encore and Chevrolet Corvette, Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles, 2015-2016 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Tahoe, Trax, Suburban and Silverado 2500 and 3500 and GMC Yukon and Yukon XL vehicles, and 2015-2017 GMC Sierra HD 2500 and 3500 vehicles. While being previously remedied for recall 16V-651, the affected vehicles may not have received the complete software update necessary to remedy the recall condition. Without the update, certain driving conditions may cause the air bag sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) software to activate a diagnostic test. During this test, deployment of the frontal air bags and the seat belt pretensioners would not occur in the event of a crash.

Risk: A failure of the front air bags or seat belt pretensioners to deploy in the event of a crash necessitating deployment increases the risk of injury to the driver and front passenger.

Fix: GM will notify owners, and dealers will reflash the SDM software. Vehicles that have had a previous air bag deployment will have the SDM replaced. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on August 4, 2017. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300, Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 17287.

  • AIR BAGS:FRONTALCampaign 16V651000 · 08/09/2016

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2015-2017 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD, 3500 HD, Tahoe, Suburban, GMC Sierra 2500 HD and 3500 HD, GMC Yukon, GMC Yukon XL, Cadillac Escalade and Cadillac Escalade ESV vehicles and 2014-2017 Chevrolet Corvette, Silverado 1500, Trax, Caprice Police Pursuit Vehicle, GMC Sierra 1500, Buick Encore, and 2014-2016 Buick Lacrosse, Chevrolet Spark EV and SS vehicles. In the affected vehicles, certain driving conditions may cause the air bag sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) software to activate a diagnostic test.

The recall began on October 13, 2016. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300, Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 16007.

  • SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:POWER ASSIST:VACUUMCampaign 19V645000 · 06/09/2019

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2015-2017 Cadillac Escalade, 2014-2018 Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, 2015-2018 Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Yukon vehicles. The amount of vacuum created by the vacuum pump may decrease over time.

Risk: As the vacuum level drops, the brake assist decreases, increasing braking effort, extending the distance required to stop the vehicle, thereby increasing the risk of a crash.

Fix: GM will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the Electronic Brake Control Module, free of charge. The recall began October 8, 2019. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-630-2438, Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N192268490.

  • CHILD SEAT:TETHER: CONNECTOR/CLIPCampaign 17V487000 · 03/08/2017

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, and GMC Sierra 1500 trucks. The owner's manual for the affected vehicles may be missing instructions on how to use the tether anchorage and child restraint anchorage systems. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 225, "Child Restraint Anchorage Systems."

Risk: If the instructions are missing from the owner's manual, the child seat may be installed incorrectly and not be properly secured, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.

Fix: GM will notify owners, and dealers will provide a corrected insert for the owners manual, free of charge. The recall began on September 25, 2017. Owners may contact GM customer service at 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet), or 1-800-462-8782 (GMC). GM's number for this recall is 17307.

AC condenser leak, no cold air blowing. Only 82,539 miles. I took my truck to Chevy and was told about the issue and the cost amount to replace. I asked if that’s under warranty or recall. Chevy dealer told me no. Because there haven’t been too many complaints about it, so it’s not yet a recall. Then the service person then proceed to tell me the repair cost amount which was around $1100. And I was also told that Chevy now has a better AC condenser part to replace the defective ones. This obviously upsets me because this truck has been nothing but problems for me. I took my truck to a mechanic shop and had the AC condenser replaced for way less than what Smith Chevrolet of Turlock CA quoted me on cost. My mechanic showed me the defective part and where it’s leaking at. The AC condenser is built poorly. Plastic parts attached to the side of the condenser cracks easily as I was told, causing it to leak freon.

  • 12/28/2023· SERVICE BRAKES

Vehicle only has 86,000 miles. Brake vacuum pump issue has failed and almost caused an accident or even death. I took my tuck at an easy trail in Big Sur CA. Brakes wasn’t working properly. I feared it would completely fail and cause us to fall off the cliff. Fortunately we got off that trail, but as we continued to drive on highway 1 the brakes would not stop the vehicle as it should. The truck would still move forward or even in reverse with the brakes pressed down. Brake pedal was hard to press and would get stuck. There were no warning lamps on to alert me. This issue has been going on for about a year and has finally given out. The vehicle has been inspected and brake vacuum pump replaced by Smith Chevrolet in Turlock CA. I was told by the service person that Chevy has a 150,000 mile warranty on the brake vacuum pump part only so mine was covered. After inspection I was told that the brake vacuum pump had no fluids at all. Vacuum pump is defective.

Radiator leak, coolant fully drained out, truck overheated. Approximately 86,000 + miles. I recently replaced the AC condenser back in [XXX]. Which I submitted a complaint form also. Reference below. Request #[XXX] Complaint number [XXX] Then in [XXX] I had the radiator replaced. This was due to a leak that caused all coolant to drain. The engine overheated because of the radiator leak. I was on the freeway when this happened. I ended up taking my truck to be inspected at a mechanic shop. I was then showed the issue of the leak. The radiator is poorly designed and is a similar issue to the AC condenser I had just replaced. The sides of the radiator is made of plastic which cracks or warp causing it to leak. I took pictures of the defective radiator after it was taken out. I decided not to go to a Chevy dealership, simply because of the higher cost. The rear window with power slider blew out when I shut my truck door. I read online that there is a recall for many other models similar to my vehicle but for some reason mine wasn't included. The window itself is over a thousand dollars just for the part; I'd appreciate some help in getting this to include my vehicle as well because it is directly inline with recalls for very similar models. Thank you, [XXX] - I can supply pictures if requested. I don't have them available to upload them now. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the Stabili-trak message was displayed and the ABS and traction control warning lights illuminated. The front wheels seized while making a turn. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the front driver's side speed sensor and wires were faulty. The front driver's speed sensor, wire kit, and connector kit were replaced; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was towed back to the dealer, where it was determined that the ABS and Stabili-trak had seized and the front driver's side wheel bearing was faulty. The dealer replaced the hub assembly. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was 67,611.

THIS COMPLAINT DEALS WITH THE BRAKE RECALL COMING FROM GM. I DID TAKE THE TRUCK TO HAVE THE BRAKE SYSTEM REPROGRAMMED. I HAD NO ISSUES UNTIL AFTER THE REPROGRAMMING OF THE SYSTEM. WHILE IN PARKING LOT GOING LESS THAN 5 MPH. I PULLED INTO A PARKING SPOT PLACED THE TRUCK INTO REVERSE TO STRAIGHTEN OUT AND DURING THE PROCESS OF PULLING BACK INTO THE PARKING SPACE STRAIGHT. WHEN I WENT TO DEPRESS THE PEDAL IT WAS VERY STIFF, IT ACTUALLY SEEMED AS IF THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS PUSHING BACK AT MY FOOT AND THE TRUCK DID NOT STOP WHEN IT WAS EXPECTED TO. LUCKILY, THERE WAS NO CAR IN THE SPACE IN FRONT OF ME ALLOWING FOR THE TRUCK TO COME TO A STOP WITH NO ACCIDENTS OR INCIDENTS. THIS AT OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY 73,500 MILES. I DID NOTIFY THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT THIS AND THEY ARE REPLACING THE VACUUM BRAKE PUMP FREE OF CHARGE. HOWEVER, IF CIRCUMSTANCES WERE DIFFERENT THIS ISSUE MAY HAVE RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT.

2017 Silverado with 6L80, 59k miles - transmission failure due to TCC failure. Rough shifting, coming out of gear, shuttering when accelerating. Truck started to whine loudly when it was promptly taken to the dealership. Dealership dropped the pan and used magnet. Visible metal was in the transmission pan. There were no indicator lights on the dash from this issue. Requested goodwill warranty, gm replied they would cover 20% or $7k so I am stuck to pay $5k for a known issue. The replacement transmission is not new that they are offering, it is "certified refurbished" where they use the old casing with new internals. They are providing a 3yr/100k miles warranty on the new transmission. Deciding factors from GM were age, miles, service at dealership. Incredibly unsatisfied that GM is standing behind their vehicles not lasting 60k miles.

I was in a drive thru yesterday and couldn’t stop. I was traveling less than 5 mph, and the brake pedal was extremely stiff, I had to pump the brakes several times in order to stop the truck. It happened a few more times on my way home in slow traffic. I almost crashed once.

Sat there not knowing what happened so I proceeded onto the freeway and it started lunging & squealing again, got off the next exit to find out it was probably the torque converter or transmission, so here I sit in Virginia & I live in Arizona stranded. Before leaving the house, it sounded like a static noise was coming from the speakers. I turned the radio off and the noise was still there. I get out of the truck to check the back seat area (where the noise was coming from). I put my ear near the window and it almost sounded like a can of something was being sprayed. It was weird, because nothing was in the back of the cab. Anyway, I thought "that's weird" and drove off, not giving it much thought. As I was walking to the truck at Sam's Club, I hit the automatic start. While loading the groceries in the truck, the noise now sounded like a sizzling, snapping sound. Then, I noticed few snowflakes landing near the back window were causing that sound. Again, I thought "that is so weird"!! I put the cart back, got in the truck and started it. At that point, it smelled like something was burning. I jumped out and opened the back door to get a closer look. While trying to figure out what was going on, smoke started coming up from both sides of the back windshield. I ran to the front to take the keys out of the ignition and then the window exploded!! I was so scared to start the truck again, wondering what else was about to happen. Thankfully, I was able to get it home with no other issues. It's now at the dealership getting looked at. They mentioned no recalls, but a quick google search shows that this is clearly an issue!! In 2019, Canada actually recalled over 159,000 vehicles over the high potential of catching on fire!!! After learning this, I'm so happy it didn't actually catch on fire!!

IN THE EVENT THE RECALL IS EXPANDED TO OUR SILVERADO MODEL WE WOULD REQUEST REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE EXPENSE TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE PART. I HAVE ALSO CONTACTED GM DIRECTLY TO REPORT THIS ISSUE AND THEY ARE GOING TO FOLLOW UP WITH ME REGARDING THE MATTER.

REAR GLASS SHATTERED WITH DEFROST ON. PRIOR TO SHATTERING I COULD SMELL SOMETHING BURNING. I WAS PARKED IN A FAST FOOD DRIVE THROUGH WHEN THIS HAPPENED. I HAD PREVIOUSLY USED THE REMOTE START TO START THE CAR.

  • 12/14/2020· FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

MY 2017 (1500) SILVERADO LTZ RUNS ROUGH WHEN EVER THE TRUCK IS IN MOTION. IT EVEN RUN ROUGH WHEN IT'S PARKED AND NOT MOVING. THE SHIFTING IS ROUGH AS WELL. FOR EXAMPLE, WHEN I'M AT A RED LIGHT, A STOP SIGN OR JUST AT A COMPLETE STOP, I HAVE TO TAKE OFF FAST BECAUSE IF I TAKE OFF SLOWLY, MY TRUCK WILL JERK INCREDIBLY HARD. I TURNED ON MY TRUCK ONE MORNING AND IT JUST WAS SHAKING SO BAD AND OUT OF CONTROL. I TOOK MY TRUCK TO A CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP TO GET A DIAGNOSIS DONE AND I HAVE 3 BAD FUEL INJECTORS. THEY WANT TO CHARGE ME ABOUT $1400 FOR THE REPAIRS, NOT HAPPENING. GM HAS ISSUED FREE REPAIRS FOR THESE INJECTORS SINCE THEY'RE A COMMON PROBLEM WITHIN THESE TRUCKS BUT THEY'RE ONLY ALLOWING THE FREE REPAIRS DONE IN 13 STATES AND MY STATE, (IDAHO) IS NOT ONE OF THEM. IT'S A 4 YEAR OLD TRUCK WITH ONLY 43,000 MILES ON IT. I SHOULDN'T HAVE A REPAIR THAT'S OVER $1,000 DOLLARS. THAT DOESN'T SIT RIGHT WITH ME AND IT WOULDN'T SIT RIGHT WITH YOU IF YOU WERE IN MY SHOES. IM AFRAID I'LL BE STRANDED OUT ON THE ROAD WITH A FAIRLY PERFECTLY NEW, LOW MILEAGE TRUCK. THIS IS NOT A OWNERS PROBLEM, IT'S A GM PROBLEM THAT SHOULD BE COVERED BY THEM, NOT BY THE OWNERS.

Nothing yet. Between doing research and general observation the DOD/AFM is a known issue for these motors. The engine will randomly loose a valve and cause the engine to shut down causing for a major Saftey concern if traveling or towing

  • 12/13/2023· ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Not exactly sure of the root cause but the glass shop said it appeared that the rear defrosting element on my 2017 Chevy Silverado shorted out, became extremely hot and caused my rear window to shatter. Some documents that I read stated that the electrical connections could corrode over time and short out. I read that Canada does have a recall for this same problem.

  • 12/12/2024· SERVICE BRAKES

We were on vacation driving to Florida by the time we arrived 1500 miles later I had no brakes. This happened on a Friday. We called our mechanic in Oklahoma to explain it to him. He had us check a few things to see if it was a number of thing. He said it was the brakes vacuum pump. He had one in the shop for the same thing. You can't get in to a Chevrolet dealer to have it fixed in the time that we had. My husband did fix it but was extremely scared to drive in South Florida with limited to no brakes. My truck only had under 80 thousand miles on it. We live in a rural area so it's not like constant braking.

The transmission in my truck completely failed on a busy road during rush hour. I was in stop and go traffic and after one of my stops the truck wouldn’t move Luckily I was in the right hand lane and about 150 feet from the entrance to a parking lot and a stranger helped me push it to that lot. I had it towed to the dealership I bought it at The recite they gave me says “ transmission pump has failed and burnt clutches”. I have never pulled a trailer and only had 78,000 miles on my truck

Rear sliding widow automatic defroster caught fire filled truck with smoke causing driver to make emergency stoppage and open windows to clear deadly smoke condition to breathe when glass shatteted and created loud noise and danger of shattered glass to rear passengers. Recall in Canada for same exact dangerous rear window defect.

Loss of power and misfire. I was on I44 in Oklahoma with my 1 year old and couldn’t go over 45 MPH. The mechanic said it was a lifter failure and it ruined cam shaft. In all the total repairs were $3800.00. I’m just learning about this common problem and seen there was a class action lawsuit filed.
