This is a common issue with at least this model of vehicle and it's shared "sister" car the Mini cooper.   Hello, my car keeps posting a message "Stop Your Car from Rolling" and I've learned that it's a simple spring that probably needs to be repaired. However, in order to repair a $3.00 spring, the dealer is trying to charge upwards of $3,000 to replace it. I really think this should be a recall for such a simple fix that should not be needed at all. The message appears every time I put the vehicle into PARK and will not stop. I'm always afraid my car will roll away if parked at an incline and I'm afraid the drive the car any longer. Thank you for your time.

  Getting "Secure vehicle against rolling" warning with Transmission Error - Contact Service Center. Dealer indicated it was a faulty spring/component in the gear shift. They do not replace the spring, but the entire gear shift with a quoted repair/labor cost of $2,700. It is a sensor problem where the car cannot recognize if it is in Park. This is a common defect in the 2017 BMW X1 that occurs suddenly. BMW should issue a recall or extended warranty repair. Please investigate.

  It appears that a component in the gear selector has failed to properly detect the gear selector position, specifically when it is in park. Even though the gear selector is in park and the parking brake is applied as indicated by lights and physically attempting to move the vehicle, there is a warning message to secure a vehicle with parking brake to prevent it from rolling. Therefore the functionality of this safety device, the warning message, has failed. The cost to repair this is extraordinary and will lead people to not have it repaired, unless it is repairable under warranty. Without repair, people will just ignore the message and then, if they were to actually leave the gear selector in neutral , have the potential for property damage or injury caused by the vehicle rolling. I believe this failure should be the subject of the recall.

  Vehicle was taken to the dealer for repair. The dealer mechanics diagnosed a failed engine mount bolt. Vehicle mileage is 66965. This vehicle is driven lightly and this failure seems to be premature.

  A warning light appears: "Secure Vehicle Against Rolling Error". I went online to see what the issue was and found that there were numerous vehicles owners with the same exact problem. It appears that a component in the gear selector has failed to properly detect the gear selector position, specifically when it is in park. Even though the gear selector is in park and the parking brake is applied as indicated by lights and physically attempting to move the vehicle, there is a warning message to secure a vehicle with parking brake to prevent it from rolling. This creates a safety hazard because the gear selector can be shifted into Drive without having your foot on the brake. Note that a very large number of BMW owners have complained about this problem on social media and in the BMW message forum. This is clearly a wide-scale problem that stems from a faulty design, and it creates a potential safety hazard. As such, BMW should be forced to do a formal recall to correct this issue.

  Error msg indicating “secure vehicle against rolling” appeared. Also, “Transmission: Secure vehicle with parking brake when stopped. Consult service center.” Apparently from many comments from other BMW owners and mechanics the issue is common and is related to an inexpensive spring that has broken in the shifter box. It seems the broken spring prevents the electronic system from receiving a signal that the car is in Park. Also, from comments, this a very expensive repair. I’m not sure of the safety risk with this.

  During the parking of my BMW X1, when I put the gearbox shifter in the P position and turn off the engine I receive the following error message: "Secure Vehicle with Parking brake, have problem checked by service partner." This happens each time and also when the vehicle is parked on level ground. The error will remain even when the parking brake is applied. BMW Error Computer code is "420106" - Shiftlock Solenoid. Selector Lever wrongly not locked in P.

  Error: Secure Vehicle Against Rolling. This just appeared on my dash 12/16/2022 while it was in park mode. I’ve done some research and found it’s just a small spring in the shifter that costs about $10. To get spring replaced at the dealer will cost about $3,000! This appears to be a problem with the BMW X1s. My vehicle has not been in an accident and I’ve always maintained it since ownership in 2017. BMW should be doing recalls on something of this nature.

  When shifting vehicle to park "Secure Vehicle Against Rolling" warning displays on iDrive and warning message center along with "contact BMW service center". Shifter assembly failed internally. $850 shifter assembly has a $10 internal spring that broke and requires replacement. My safety at risk due to vehicle being unsafe when parked and possibly allowed to roll if not secured. Problem can be reproduced at all times when parking vehicle. Warning is also present at start up. Dealership quoted over $3000 to replace shifter assembly. There is no incident or damage to vehicle and it has not been inspected by manufacturer, police, or insurance reps. Warning lights came on after shifter assembly internal spring failure and continually afterwards while parking and starting the vehicle. Must accept warning message on iDrive system.

The entire center section and console needs to be taken apart just to get to the spring. Countless reports of this ... BMW is very casual about the concern and adamant on ignoring customer complaints ,but this is a serious safty issue involving the emergency brake and nonstop warning lights, this should be covered. Please enforce laws so that BMW gives proper attention to this vehicle brakes/transmission issue immediately and issue recall for the faulty parts.   - Automatic transmission gearshifter, torsion spring. - The vehicle could roll when it is parked without engaging engine break and hit other vehicles and pedestrian. - Not confirmed by the dealer yet. The service visit is scheduled. However, on the Internet, many people complaining for $2,000-$3,000 repair estimates for $10 or less torsion spring breakage. - The problem started December 5, 2021. This is a product Liability and quality issue and consumers should be able to get the actual part repair not replace the whole thing.

  The following error message is displayed: "secure vehicle against rolling" this message is displayed due to a broken spring in the gear selector mechanism. Because of the broken spring, the car's computer cannot detect whether or not the gear selector is in park. This creates a safety hazard because the gear selector can be shifted into drive without having your foot on the brake.   Warning light appears: Secure Vehicle Against Rolling Error. I went online to see what the issue was and found that there were numerous complaints by BMW X1 owners who discovered that it was a $10 spring in the shifter that dealers were charging between $2,000 and $3,000 to repair. Many opted not to do the repair due to the excessive cost, a decision that could prove catastrophic for some. In the likely event that your agency is already aware of this problem, I am writing to add my name to the list of complaints in the hope that NHTSA investigates and perhaps orders a recall.

  I am writing to formally file a report regarding the severe mechanical damage to the vehicle I purchased on June 14th, 2024, identified as A 2017 BMW- X1 sDrive28i, with VIN NUMBER [XXX] . It has come to my attention that this damage was not disclosed at the time of purchase, which constitutes a violation of consumer protection laws. As a consumer, I have the right to receive truthful and accurate information about the products I purchase. The failure to disclose significant mechanical issues is a violation of the Federal Trade Commission's regulations and applicable state consumer protection laws, including the prohibition against deceptive acts and practices. This vehicle poses as a safety risk to myself, and other's. Specifically, I have experienced the following issues with the vehicle: 1. Leaking oil 2. Loud engine. 3. Overheating. 4. Suspension issues. 5. Control arm alignment. 6. Shock and strut assembly. 7. Wheel alignment. 8. Turbocharger alignment 9. Engine assembly.   have a 2017 BMW X1, and have an issue with the back hatch closing on its own ( Auto Hatch Closing Feature). It can close on it's own when i walk behind it, sometimes when i am sitting on the back changing my golf shoes...I have to get out of the way before it hits me in the head. I have even tried to push up on the hatch after it starts closing and it will continue to close. It could easily close on a small child or animal and cause harm. This is the foot sensor, and it is too sensitive. IBM says they have no iDrive software ( or did not know about it) to disable this feature in the 2017 model. It is dangerous and annoying.

  The contact owns a 2017 BMW X1. The contact stated while driving at approximately 55 MPH, the message “Engine Overheated - Drive Moderately" was displayed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that there was no coolant in the reservoir. The vehicle was taken to the residence and the contact observed condensation underneath the vehicle. The vehicle was then towed to a dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the coolant housing was cracked and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 98,000.

  Warning message: "Secure vehicle with parking brake when stationary". Extremely common issue with various BMW's including Mini Cooper vehicles. Error code reads "420106". Vehicle's computer can't read/tell if parking brake is engaged or not while parked. This is a safety hazard that is often quoted as several thousand dollars in repair costs by BMW dealers. A faulty gear box is at play and should be recalled by BMW.

  I have been complaining about roughness for quite some time. Especially when are is cold. I have a 2017 X1, less than 40k and the engine mount cracked BMW Service informed me this is an known issue within BMW. Not only x1 but X2 and some X3 models. Also said the others will crack within 10-20K miles I had made the concern known about the car almost or complete stalling out to the dealerships. Link below to the video. Part was thrown away on Saturday (I am told) No warning lamps, messages. Just some roughness tough who would think engine mount issue under 40K. Due to Covid car is out of warranty by 6mos as it wasn't driven as much as it would have been under normal times.   It displays a secure vehicle against rolling warning which is caused by a faulty gear selector assembly. After researching on the Internet and talking to the dealer repair specialist, this seems to be a common issue for this model and it should not have happened this early in the car (the car is only 7 yrs old and has very low mileage since it was not driven much during 3 years of covid). This is a design issue that should have been fixed or recalled by the manufacturer. It is not a normal wear and tear issue and the consumer should not be paying thousands of dollars to fix a car design issue that impacts safety.

Seems to me that this should be put on a Recall list as soon as possible as this could cause a safety issue if in fact the system malfunctions and causes the car to roll or shift into drive when stopped. This error message just started about a week ago. BMW dealership has checked the car and confirmed the issue is a faulty spring and that the whole Shifter needs to be replaced. Pulled codes, received code 420106 Shiftlock Solenoid Selector Lever Wrongly Not Locked in P. Forums all over the internet with hundreds of the same exact issue. Commonplace and should be recalled.

  I had my car in for regular Oil Change Service and was told I needed front brakes and rotors. I approved the stated repairs. When I started my car and proceeded to drive off the lot a caution light appeared and an error message "Secure vehicle against rolling. Secure vehicle with the parking brake when stopped. Consult service center. I text a picture of the message to the service advisor and he stated "this is a known issue with the BMW X1 - "gear selector is intermittently faulty."   When placed in park , vehicle reads “secure vehicle against rolling “ and “ Secure vehicle with parking brake when stopped. Consult service center.” Upon research , this seems to be a common issue amongst this vehicle make and specific model that should be addressed. A parking brake should not be a requirement to ensure that a vehicle does not roll away into pedestrians , establishments , etc. when parked. No warning signs were provided prior to the alerts.

  I am getting the same message as others before me: "Secure vehicle with parking brake when stopped. Consult service center." This occurs when I begin to engage the car and prior to exiting the car. It's been sending that message for a couple of months now. At the beginning of drive time, the rear camera does not engage until I acknowledge the parking brake message and press the dial down on the center console. Of course, I wonder, "Is the car actually in Park and the computer just doesn't recognize it?" or "Am I actually at risk because the car is NOT in Park and at risk of rolling until I engage the parking brake?" Could we at least have THAT answered? Service rep at dealership engaged my key fob but couldn't tell me anything about the issue... until I allowed diagnostics at a cost of almost $250. I had already gone in to another non dealer to inquire, and he knew exactly what I was referring to...a common problem with X1s he said. Hmmmm...and a cost of about $2500 to replace the shifter... labor was the greater expense. Back at the dealership, I asked, "what if it's the shifter? What would that cost?" Result: almost $3000 to fix. It's time for a recall. What is the BMW threshold before this is done? ....or what is the NHTSA threshold??

  This week, again, the rear hatch came down on me as I was loading groceries and while I tried to fend it off, giving me a bruise on my lower arm The rear hatch door randomly closes while I am loading/unloading the rear of the X1. In the past I thought it might be the key fob being bumped in a purse or pocket, but NO. It happens randomly. It beeps its warning thank goodness, but has put me, my grandchildren, and others helping load at risk several times since we purchased this car in 2017. I thought this might be peculiar to my car alone, but now see others with the same complaint! I will not let my grandchildren stand around the back of the car when loading. BMW will be sued by someone, bet on it, if it hasn't already happened, if any child or animal is injured due to this problem. The force was strong enough to bump and bruise an adult, let alone a child! My dealer listened to my complaint, but offers no solution...I have no paperwork to this effect. This is a safety and public relations nightmare for BMW that it has not been addressed already...

Upon doing research this is a common problem with the BMW X1, a default spring in the gearbox, which breaks at around 20000-60000 miles. The repair is very expensive $1500-$2000 at a dealer for a $3.00 part. It should be a recall as it is common breakage.
