  • ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: INSTRUMENT CLUSTER/PANELCampaign 24V051000 · 30/01/2024Over-the-air fix

Tesla, Inc. (Tesla) is recalling certain 2012-2023 Model S, 2016-2024 Model X, 2017-2023 Model 3, 2019-2024 Model Y, and 2024 Cybertruck vehicles. An incorrect font size is displayed on the instrument panel for the Brake, Park, and Antilock Brake System (ABS) warning lights. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 105, "Hydraulic and Electric Brake Systems" and 135, "Light Vehicle Brake Systems."

Risk: Warning lights with a smaller font size can make critical safety information on the instrument panel difficult to read, increasing the risk of a crash.

Fix: Tesla began releasing an over-the-air (OTA) software update, free of charge. Owners may contact Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752. Tesla's number for this recall is SB-24-00-003.

  • BACK OVER PREVENTION:SOFTWARECampaign 21V035000 · 29/01/2021

Tesla, Inc. (Tesla) is recalling certain 2012-2018 Tesla Model S and 2016-2018 Model X vehicles with a center display equipped with a NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor and an 8GB eMMC NAND flash memory device. When the 8GB eMMC NAND flash memory device for the center display reaches lifetime wear, the eMMC controller will no longer be able to maintain the integrity of the filesystem, causing a failure in some of the center display functions.

Risk: The eMMC controller wear-out condition can cause the loss of the rearview camera display, defrost/defog control settings, and exterior turn signal lighting, reducing visibility and increasing the risk of a crash.

Fix: Owners should ensure their vehicles are operating firmware release 2020.48.48.12 or newer, which will alert owners if the eMMC is approaching lifetime wear. Tesla will notify owners, and will replace the VCM daughterboard with one containing an enhanced eMMC controller, free of charge. The recall began March 29, 2021. Owners may contact Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752. Tesla's number for this recall is SB-21-21-001.

  • SEAT BELTS:FRONT:WARNING LIGHT/DEVICESCampaign 24V376000 · 28/05/2024Over-the-air fix

Tesla, Inc. (Tesla) is recalling certain 2012-2024 Model S, 2015-2024 Model X, 2017-2023 Model 3, and 2020-2023 Model Y vehicles. In the event of an unbelted driver, the seat belt warning light and audible chime may not activate as intended. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."

Risk: A seat belt warning system that fails to alert occupants of an unbelted seat belt can increase the risk of injury during a crash.

Fix: Tesla will release an over-the-air (OTA) software update. Owner notification letters were mailed July 26, 2024. Owners may contact Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752. Tesla's number for this recall is SB-24-00-008.

Tesla, Inc. (Tesla) is recalling certain 2016-2022 Model S and Model X, 2017-2022 Model 3, and 2020-2022 Model Y vehicles. The "rolling stop" functionality available as part of the Full Self-Driving (Beta) software may allow the vehicle to travel through an all-way stop intersection without first coming to a stop.

Risk: Failing to stop at a stop sign can increase the risk of a crash.

Fix: Tesla will perform an over-the-air (OTA) software update that disables the "rolling stop" functionality, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed March 28, 2022. Owners may contact Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752. Tesla's number for this recall is SB-22-00-001.

  • PARKING BRAKECampaign 17V260000 · 19/04/2017

Tesla, Inc. (Tesla) is recalling certain 2016 Model S and Model X vehicles. The electric parking brake calipers have an internal gear that may be improperly manufactured, possibly resulting in the gear fracturing during parking brake application or release.

Risk: If the gear breaks during parking brake release, the vehicle will not be able to be moved. If the gear breaks during parking brake application, the parking brake may not adequately hold the vehicle, potentially resulting in the vehicle rolling, increasing the risk of a crash.

Fix: Tesla will notify owners, and service centers will replace both the left and right electric parking brake calipers, free of charge. The recall began March 6, 2018. Owners may contact Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752. Tesla's number for this recall is SB-17-33-002.

  • STEERING:AUTOMATED/ADAPTIVE STEERINGCampaign 23V085000 · 15/02/2023Over-the-air fix

Tesla, Inc. (Tesla) is recalling certain 2016-2023 Model S, Model X, 2017-2023 Model 3, and 2020-2023 Model Y vehicles equipped with Full Self-Driving Beta (FSD Beta) software or pending installation.  The FSD Beta system may allow the vehicle to act unsafe around intersections, such as traveling straight through an intersection while in a turn-only lane, entering a stop sign-controlled intersection without coming to a complete stop, or proceeding into an intersection during a steady yellow traffic signal without due caution. In addition, the system may respond insufficiently to changes in posted speed limits or not adequately account for the driver's adjustment of the vehicle's speed to exceed posted speed limits.

Risk: FSD Beta software that allows a vehicle to exceed speed limits or travel through intersections in an unlawful or unpredictable manner increases the risk of a crash.

Fix: Tesla will release an over-the-air (OTA) software update, free of charge.  Owner notification letters were mailed April 15, 2023.  Owners may contact Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752.  Tesla's number for this recall is SB-23-00-001.

Fix: Tesla will notify owners, and dealers will replace all affected third row seats, free of charge. The recall began on April 20, 2016. Owners may contact Tesla customer service at 1-844-248-3752 or by email at ServiceHelpNA@teslamotors.com. Tesla's number for this recall is SB-16-13-003

  • STEERING:ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEMCampaign 20V062000 · 05/02/2020

Tesla, Inc. (Tesla) is recalling certain 2015-2016 Model X vehicles. The aluminum bolts that attach the power steering gear assist motor to the gear housing may corrode and fracture causing a reduction or complete loss of power steering assist.

Risk: Loss of power steering assist would require a higher steering effort, especially at lower speeds, which may increase the risk of a crash.

Fix: Tesla will notify owners, and Tesla Service Centers will replace the steering gear mounting bolts with coated steel bolts, and add a corrosion-preventative sealer to the steering gear motor housing and motor connection bolts. If the mounting bolts are found to be broken or break during removal and cannot be removed, a new steering gear will also be installed. All services will be performed free of charge. My vehicle was being repaired by a collision repair shop to replace the front bumper and grill. When they finished the repair and were calibrating all the sensors, they discovered that the driver door would not latch consistently. When it did latch, during test drives by the collision employees it would fail while driving down the road and the door would open on the highway. They could not return the vehicle to me until the door issue was fixed. They attempted to fix it by replacing the door actuator once that part arrived from Tesla. That also did not fix the problem. After contacting Tesla they were told it is a known problem for which a retrofit latch kit is needed. Tesla would not repair the latch without payment for the kit parts and labor to install it as the car was out of warranty. The total bill was $820, including $310 for parts and $455 for labor. In my opinion this should be a required safety recall for the Model X as it allows the driver and passenger doors to open while the vehicle is underway. Note: As I was not driving I can not report the approximate speed. The mileage and date is an estimate as the vehicle was under the care of the collision repair shop when the incident occurred and was reported to me.

MY MCU FAILED WHICH ENDED UP IMMOBILIZING THE CAR WHICH REQUIRED A FLAT BED TOW TO A NEARBY TESLA SERVICE CENTER. AT THAT TIME, TESLA REPLACED THE MCU EMMC IN SEPT 2020. SINCE THIS PART HAS BEEN REPLACED, THE BACKUP SAFETY CAMERA AND OTHER FUNCTIONALITY (E.G. NAVIGATION, USER INTERFACE ACCESS) WILL BECOME NON-FUNCTIONING FREQUENTLY. THIS CAN BE NON-FUNCTIONING FOR A FEW SECONDS TO A FEW MINUTES. SOMETIMES THE BACKUP CAMERA WILL FREEZE THE OBJECT ON SCREEN AND NOT MOVE OR BE SOLID BLACK. OVERALL THE HARDWARE "FIX" HAS CAUSED MORE ISSUES THAN BEFORE THE FAILURE. I ALSO HAVE AN EXTENDED TESLA WARRANTY, AND TESLA WILL NOT REPLACE THIS MORE PROBLEMATIC MCU NOW WITH A NEWER MCU SINCE TESLA CLASSIFIES THIS AS A "PERFORMANCE" RELATED ISSUE. TESLA SERVICE WANTS ME TO SPEND $2500 TO FIX MY BACKUP SAFETY CAMERA ISSUE OR WAIT AN UNKNOWN PERIOD FOR AN UNKNOWN SOFTWARE. IT HAS BEEN ALMOST 4 MONTHS AND THERE'S BEEN NO FIX. I WANT TESLA TO REPLACE MY MCU WITH ANOTHER MCU1 OR A MCU2 WHICH TESLA CONFIRMS FIXES THE CAMERA ISSUE.

Tesla issues encountered with model X 2016: 1). Bought a demo car with a new car warranty, the car is supposed to be checked and verified that it meets safety guidelines, and certain standards, a).the car had a yellowish tinge had to get it buffed and detailed to look true pearl white cost $400 b). my tires were so bad the tire shop told me they are unsafe to drive so had to get them replaced the morning after I bought the car from tesla-ohio branch and got back to chicago I informed Tesla about all nothing was done cost approximately $2000 c).After I purchased the car before I could drive to ohio to pick it up tesla employee backed up the car into a pole I was told it will be fixed it was not cost $4k d). Wheels were all scratched up had to get them refinished cost approximately $900 2). Warrant is not honored always. Over the years camera and sensor very unsafe and every time Tesla says can’t reproduce Even after providing proof of videos, one point finally got tired paid out of pocket to replace front 2 sensors they never bothered to take it apart and verify it’s working safely and properly, after paying out of pocket at least the lane change worked 98% of time cost around $500-600 3).Auto pilot is misleadingly unsafe, cameras and sensors have either reached end of life or simply not working but definitely unsafe because sometimes the car drives like a drunk person on streets, confused if lanes merging I had incidents where it would have caused an accident had I not taken over and there was no warning 4). Advertised Range is deceptive and misleading, claim is my car to get 255 miles in reality I get around 120-130 which is more like half the range makes it hard to go out of town, an 8 hr trip becomes a 13-15 hr trip.

To Whom It May Concern, My name is [XXX] , and I am writing regarding unresolved issues with my 2016 Tesla Model X (VIN: [XXX] ). Despite multiple service visits, extensive repairs, and approximately $8,000 in costs, my vehicle remains undrivable and presents significant safety concerns. I initially brought my vehicle to the Tesla Service Center in Richmond, Texas, for motor-related issues. I was informed that mismatched tires and front-end components were contributing to the problem, and repairs were completed. However, the original issue persisted. Subsequent visits for additional repairs also failed to resolve the problem, and new safety concerns emerged. Complicating matters, the Richmond Service Center has since closed, and its staff were terminated. When I contacted the Westchase Service Center, Manager Andrea P. informed me that no resolution or agreement could be reached. I have attached the following invoices for your review: Invoice #[XXX], dated April 26, 2024 Invoice #[XXX], dated November 9, 2023 I am requesting the following: A full review of my service history and unresolved issues. Immediate repairs to address motor and safety concerns at no additional cost. A clear explanation of Tesla’s policies regarding unresolved repairs, especially with closed service centers. This situation has caused financial and personal hardship. I urge Tesla to address these issues promptly to restore my confidence in your brand. Please contact me at [Your Phone Number] or [Your Email Address] to discuss this matter. During this visit, I was informed that mismatched tire sizes and worn parts in the front end were contributing to the problem. The service center proceeded with repairs, charging me for the work. However, the original issue persisted after I picked up the vehicle. Despite multiple follow-up appointments and additional repairs, the problem was never resolved.

MY AIR COMPRESSOR ON THE SUSPENSION BROKE. THE CAR IS SO LOW TO THE GROUND NOW I COULD NOT CLEAR A SPEED BUMP WITHOUT GETTING STUCK ON IT. IN ADDITION, THE CAR BOUNCES QUITE DANGEROUSLY ON EVEN THE SMALLEST CHANGES IN ROAD. I WAS TOLD IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE BY TESLA AS I AM AWAITING PARTS. AT ONE POINT, THE CAR WENT SLIGHTLY AIRBORNE ON THE HIGHWAY GOING BELOW THE SPEED LIMIT. IT'S ALSO VERY DIFFICULT ON YOUR BACK BOUNCING. I THINK IT WOULD BE VERY EASY TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE CAR AND GET IN AN ACCIDENT, ESPECIALLY IF SOMEONE WERE SPEEDING.

The media system has been a source of issues since day one. When they finally issued a recall this past summer I was relieved to see that finally the problems would be fixed. I was told of a long wait and put in que until they would be able to get to my car. They didn't have a time frame however my media system crashed so many times I was moved to the top of the list and the recall was completed. I thought that would be the end of my issues nope shortly after they completed the repair the issues started again. After several months of back and forth with Tesla they said that is wasn't a warranty issue and that I would need to have the dash and the large screen replaced and all the processing for $1200. The issue is that my media systems crashes and goes completely dark when driving. When that happens I lose numerous features while I am driving. Sometimes the system reboots itself while I am on the road. When it goes dark all my sensors stop working cruise control stops, auto pilot all warning sounds stop, rear camera, heating cooling any function controlled on the main screen does not work. However the lights still work but I can't control the operations. This does not occur frequently but when iit does it makes driving very dangerous and distracting. The other issue is the streaming on the radio often stops working or you need to continually divert your attention to get the media system back online. All these issues have been present since the I purchased my X. It's been the same with Tesla let's look at the logs and see what we can do. They say my car has had more issues than most but they have never resolved they problem. I really do not want to pay $1200 for a repair that I am leary if it will resolve the issue and disappointed in Tesla that it is their problem and need to take responsibility and repair iit at their expense. I really like my car and enjoy driving it I just want it work they way it was designed.

  • 12/19/2024· POWER TRAIN

While driving on city streets at very low speeds, error messages starting popping up on the screen "Vehicle may not restart/Service is required". We somehow made it home by restarting the computer and driving home at low speeds. At freeway speeds, this would have been catastrophic. We were able to make an appointment with the Tesla service center and found this to be due to the battery coolant heater to be internally shorted which in turn was because the large rear drive unit had an internal coolant leak. This required a very expensive $8k replacement of the large rear drive unit and the heater. A search in the blogs has yielded this to be a design and manufacturing issue. Specifically the blogs say: "the rear motor used in the early Teslas has a design flaw and will need a very expensive repair/replacement but what does that actually mean? Many Model S and Model X produced between 2012-2020 have the Large Drive Unit (LDU) with the fatal coolant seal flaw where the seal around the rotor shaft will leak coolant into the motor (Reference 1). They will ALL leak eventually. Tesla tried many things over the years to keep this seal from leaking but finally gave up and developed ‘Revision U’ in the fall of 2022 which deletes the coolant from the rotor but maintains the coolant to the inverter, stator and the ‘flyover’ tube cooling the gearbox". This means that the same problem even after the replacement, will happen again soon. I am writing to request you to send out a recall to all owners of these cars, and to have Tesla refund us for the cost of replacement of the drive unit and for Tesla to install the bypass as some aftermarket vendors (Reference 2) have started doing. I see that Tesla recalled this issue for models from October and older. My Model X is a November baby however I believe the calipers are the same from the October and older models. Please help [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

HAVING MANY ISSUES THAT SEEM TO FOLLOW THE REPORTED SYMPTOMS OF FAILING EMMC MEMORY, HOWEVER TESLA TOLD ME THAT IT IS NOT THE ISSUE AND THAT THE EMMC JUST NEEDS "REFRESHED" FOR $95.59. IT SOUNDS LIKE A WAY FOR TESLA TO DELAY THE INEVITABLE REPLACEMENT OR AVOID REPLACING THE MODULE. ALSO, I THINK IT SHOULD BE ILLEGAL FOR AN AUTOMAKER TO LEAVE A FEATURE SUCH AS AUTOPILOT IN "BETA" FORM INDEFINITELY IN A PRODUCTION VEHICLE. I SUSPECT THE FEATURE (THAT WAS QUITE EXPENSIVE) WILL NEVER BE ACTUALLY FINISHED SINCE DEVELOPMENT IS PROBABLY NO LONGER HAPPENING ON OLDER VEHICLES.

I HAD PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT, PROCEEDED TO PULL INTO A SPOT ADJACENT TO A CINDER BLOCK BUILDING. I HAD MY FOOT LIGHTLY ON THE GAS PEDAL, THEN AS I MADE THE TURN INTO THE SPOT, MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE - THE CAR LURCHED FORWARD AND SPED UP AND THE BRAKES DID NOT STOP IT. I WENT RIGHT INTO THE CONCRETE BUILDING, HEAD ON - AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE FRONT END CRUSHED AND THE 2 AIRBAGS ON THE DRIVERS SIDE DEPLOYED AND WERE SMOKING. I READ ON LINE THAT THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS INCIDENCES OF THIS HAPPENING WITH THE TESLA. SPONTANEOUS ACCELERATION WITH MY FOOT NOT ON THE GAS PEDAL. THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP BY THE BRAKES! I COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED OR HIT ANOTHER PERSONA OR VEHICLE. THE CAR HIT THE BUILDING AS WELL AS A NATURAL GAS PIPE THAT WAS RUNNING ALONG THE BUILDINGS SIDE AT THE LEVEL OF MY FRONT BUMPER. I FILED A POLICE REPORT.

HERE IS A MODEL X IN THE JUNKYARD: HTTPS://WWW.IAAI.COM/VEHICLE?ITEMID=26864884&ROWNUMBER=11&LOADRECENT=TRUE IT HAS NOT BEEN IN A COLLISION. THE AIR-BAGS HAVE NOT DEPLOYED. THERE IS NO IMPACT DAMAGE. THE SUSPENSION ON THE LH SIDE HAS COLLAPSED CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE BODYWORK AROUND THE WHEEL ARCHES. THIS SAME FAILURE OF SUSPENSION COLLAPSE IS HAPPENING REPEATEDLY TO TESLA CARS. IT IS VERY CONCERNING THAT INSTEAD OF REMEDYING THE PROBLEM AND REPAIRING THESE LIGHTLY DAMAGED VEHICLES THEY ARE INSTEAD BEING AUCTIONED OFF AS SALVAGE VEHICLES. NORMALLY AN EXPENSIVE CAR LIKE THIS WHICH HAS SUFFERED ONLY MINOR DAMAGE WOULD BE REPAIRED. IT WOULD APPEAR THAT TESLA IS SCARED THAT A REPAIRED VEHICLE WOULD PROBABLY FAIL AGAIN AND THAT THEY WOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE. PLEASE LAUNCH A FULL INVESTIGATION INTO THE CAUSE OF THESE FAILURES. THANK YOU. CONCERNED CITIZEN.

ON THE FIRST USED OF THE DAY, THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER TAKES ABOUT 45-60 SECONDS TO BOOT UP. THIS MAKES THE CAR UNDERIVABLE UNTIL THE SCREEN IS ACTIVE. I HAVE HAD THE ISSUE SINCE JULY, TESLA HAS INVESTIGATED THE LOGS NUMEROUS TIMES TO NO AVAIL. I AM NOW BEING TOLD IT IS A FIRMWARE ISSUE THEY ARE AWARE OF. BUT, THERE IS NO TIMELINE FOR A FIX. I FIND THIS VERY DANGEROUS AND ANNOYING. IF I HAD TO MOVE THE CAR QUICKLY IN ANY KIND OF AN EMERGENCY, I CANNOT DO SO. THE CAR IS COMPLETELY UNDERIVABLE UNTIL THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER BOOTS UP. OTHER THAN WAITING, THE ONLY OPTION I HAVE BEEN GIVEN IS TO PAY $2,500 FOR A NEWER VERSION OF THE MAIN COMPUTER. THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE TO ME, AS THE CAR IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. AS PER YOUR NOTE BELOW, THE CAR IS ALWAYS STATIONARY. AS SAID ABOVE, IT IS UNDERIVABLE UNTIL THE SYSTEM BOOTS UP.

  • 12/09/2022· SEATS

The 2nd row seats are loose and Tesla will not help cover the costs of repair citing its normal wear and tear. This is a safety issue that should be covered due to it only being a 6 year old car. This would mean that Tesla seats should be expected to fail after 6 years. That seems like a problem to me.

HERE IS A VIDEO THAT A TESLA OWNER HAS POSTED ON YOUTUBE SHOWING HOW HIS SUSPENSION HAS FALLEN APART. HTTPS://WWW.YOUTUBE.COM/WATCH?V=2-Q9MS8QBJO THIS IS HAPPENING OVER AND OVER TO TESLAS DUE TO THEM HAVING ABSURDLY FRAGILE SUSPENSION COMPONENTS. THE OWNER IS ADAMANT THAT THIS WAS NOT CAUSED BY ANY KIND OF ABUSE OF THE VEHICLE. THE OWNER CAN EASILY BE IDENTIFIED FROM THE YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND ALSO FROM THIS EARLIER CLIP HE POSTED.HTTPS://WWW.YOUTUBE.COM/WATCH?V=JZKTDA8CEQW THIS IS A SYSTEMIC FAILURE. THE OWNER HAS COMMENTED THAT IF THIS FAILURE HAD OCCURRED AT SPEED IT WOULD LIKELY HAVE BEEN FATAL.. PLEASE TAKE ACTION. THE AIRBAGS HAVE BEEN DEPLOYED - MOST LIKELY BECAUSE THE FRONT SUSPENSION HAS FALLEN TO BITS AND THE WHEEL HAS GONE SEVERELY WHOMPY WHICH WOULD CAUSE A VIOLENT SWERVE AND DECELERATION. THERE IS A CLEAR PATTERN OF FAILURES IN TESLA SUSPENSIONS. THE ALLOY WHEELS ARE QUITE FRAGILE AS HAS BEEN SHOWN IN CRASH TESTING. IN CASE AFTER CASE TESLA SUSPENSIONS FALL APART ALL TOO EASILY. CALLED THE TOWING SERVICE & THEY FOUND THE CONTROL ARM BROKEN & GRINDING AGAINST THE WHEEL. THE FRONT SUSPENSION COULD HAVE COLLAPSED IF I HAD DRIVEN EVEN A LITTLE BIT. I OWN 2 TESLAS (2013 S AND 2016 X) AND WITHIN 6 WEEKS BOTH CENTER SCREENS WENT BLANK. THE STATED REASONS BY TESLA FOR THE DEFECT FOR THE S IS LISTED AS "MS TEGRA MCU LTE PREM W-D MOTHERBOARD NA(1004740- 10-A)" AND FOR THE X IT'S LISTED AS "MCU, MDLSX, NA PREMIUM, REMAIN (64GB)(1098010-99-H)". I'M CONVINCED IT'S A BUILT-IN FLAW THAT SHOULD BE COVERED BY TESLA VS THE OWNERS. ALSO, UPON MY REQUEST TO SEND ME THE DIAGNOSTIC LOGS THAT WOULD ALLOW ME TO VERIFY WETHER IT'S TRULY THE MOTHERBOARD OR THE SC CARD THAT IS DEFECT, TESLA REFUSED TO DO SO. IT'S A CRITICAL PIECE OF INFORMATION FOR ANY OWNER TO BE ABLE TO SEE AND READ.

MCU computer has failed multiple times, including one time, middle of a very hot summer day, turning on high heat and rolling up windows, until computer rebooted (seemed like forever), while on the freeway. Tesla later notified us of a recall of the MCU, but repeatedly denied our claim, even though they admitted the MCU was the culprit, "just 'cause". The steering is greatly affected by front motor and its half-shafts. Had repaired right before warranty expired, but the problem remained. Tesla techs all warned us that it would happen again, which it did shortly after, and Tesla refused to repair it again, except to replace the failed components with identical components, all at our cost (thousands of dollars). Tesla techs said that the problem was a notoriously bad design of the half-shafts. They said it was fixed in newer front drive units, but that our only option was to keep replacing the defectively designed parts. When it has this problem, the car wants to steer left or right, but never straight ahead, and can pull suddenly to one side, making driver appear to be drunk from the sudden left-right-left-right motions. Tesla experts have told us that the only fix is to buy a new Tesla.

I REVERSED AND BRAKED TO SEE IF IT WOULD HAPPEN AND IT DID AND THE CAR FELT LIKE IT WAS VERY HEAVY. WHILE MANEUVERING IN REVERSE AT LOW SPEED IN A FLAT COMMERCIAL PARKING LOT ABOUT A MILE FROM MY HOME. I WAS MANEUVERING TO ENTER A PARKING SPACE, AT ONLY ONE OR TWO MILES PER HOUR. I HEAR A LOUD NOISE. THE VEHICLE STARTED MAKING A LOUD NOISE. I DETERMINED THAT SOME SORT OF CATASTROPHIC FAILURE HAD HAPPENED IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE SUSPENSION. THE WHEEL WELL LINER WAS TORN FROM THE FRONT WHEEL WELL. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER VISUALLY CONFIRMED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SUSPENSION HAD FAILED (THEY MENTIONED A PART BY NAME, BUT I DON'T RECALL WHAT THEY SAID). THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO TESLA SERVICE WATERTOWN, WHERE A FEW DAYS LATER THEY CONFIRMED, IN THEIR WORDS "FOUND RH FRONT FORE LINK, WHEEL ARCH LINER, AND FENDER GARNISH REQUIRE REPLACEMENT, AND VEHICLE REQUIRES ALIGNMENT". THEY DENIED THE SERVICE UNDER WARRANTY, STATING THAT IN THE VIEW OF THEIR SERVICE TECHNICIANS, I HAD STRUCK SOME SORT OF OBSTACLE CAUSING THE FAILURE. FOR THE RECORD: I DID NOT. THERE WAS NO NOTABLE COLIISION OR ROAD HAZARD STRIKE IN THE PERIOD LEADING UP TO THIS SUSPENSION FAILURE. I PAID $1319 OUT OF POCKET (AND LOST THE USE OF THE VEHICLE FOR 5 DAYS WAITING ON PARTS) TO RESTORE THE VEHICLE TO SERVICE, AND THERE'S STILL A DEFERRED ITEM FROM THE SERVICE ITEM I HAVEN'T ADDRESSED YET: "FRONT CAMBER WAS NOT ABLE TO BE ADJUSTED DUE TO HARDWARE, AND WILL REQUIRE REPLACEMENT IN THE FUTURE. ALSO NOTED VEHICLE HAS VIBRATION UNDER ACCELERATION. RECOMMEND SCHEDULING FOLLOW UP FOR AXLES AND MOTOR MOUNT." I HAVE BEEN NOTICING MY 2016 TESLA MODEL X 90D HAS BEEN MAKING A STRANGE RATTLING NOISE FROM THE FRONT RIGHT TIRE/SUSPENSION AREA. IT ONLY MAKES THAT NOISE AT LOWER SPEEDS OF 30MPH OR LESS. WHEN I TOOK IT IN FOR SERVICE ON OCTOBER 27, 2020, THEY SHARED THAT IT WAS LIKELY THE AIR SUSPENSION SYSTEM THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, BUT THEY WEREN'T SURE AND THEY RECOMMENDED WE NOT REPLACE IT UNTIL IT FAILED (I.E. WOULD NO LONGER ADAPT TO GOING UP OR DOWN WHEN WE PULLED INTO OUR DRIVE-WAY, ETC...). AFTER READING THE INVESTIGATION THAT WAS RECENTLY ANNOUNCED, I THOUGHT IT WAS GOOD TO SHARE THIS INFORMATION WITH YOUR TEAM AS IT COULD BE A SIMILAR ISSUE. THE NOISE, WHICH SOUNDS LIKE A RATTLING OR SOMETHING IS LOOSE, BEGAN AROUND MAY OF 2020. IN ADDITION, I HAVE FOUND IT VERY ODD THAT I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE TIRES WITHIN ONE YEAR OF PURCHASING THEM BECAUSE THE INSIDE AREA OF BOTH REAR TIRES HAVE WORN DOWN COMPLETELY TO THE TREAD. DURING MY LAST SERVICE ON OCTOBER 27, 2020, THEY SAID THEY WOULD ADJUST THE REAR SUSPENSION SO THE TIRES WOULD NOT WEAR OUT LIKE THAT AS IT WAS LIKELY DUE TO AN ALIGNMENT/CAMBER ISSUE WITH HOW THE SUSPENSION WAS RIDING.
