Do not drive this vehicle — urgent recall

NHTSA has flagged a recall on this vehicle as severe. Contact a dealer immediately; recall repairs are free.

  • AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:PASSENGER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULECampaign 19V018000 · 15/01/2019Do not drive

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2010 Dodge Ram 3500, Ram 4500/5500, 2010-2011 Dodge Dakota, 2010-2014 Dodge Challenger, 2010-2015 Dodge Challenger, Chrysler 300, and 2010-2016 Jeep Wrangler vehicles. Upon deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, excessive internal pressure may cause the inflator to explode.

Risk: In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the passenger's frontal air bag, the inflator could explode with metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants potentially resulting in serious injury or death.

Fix: Owners are advised not to drive their vehicle until the recall repair is complete. Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will replace the passenger frontal air bag inflator, free of charge. The recall began February 4, 2019. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is V01.

  • SEAT BELTS:FRONT:ANCHORAGECampaign 19V680000 · 26/09/2019

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2011-2018 Jeep Wrangler right hand drive vehicles. The driver's seat belt buckle mounting strap may fracture and separate from the seat frame.

Risk: A separated or severed seat belt buckle strap will result in an inoperable seat belt, increasing the risk of injury in the event of a crash.

Fix: FCA US will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver's seat belt buckle, free of charge. Interim notices informing owners of the safety risk were mailed November 19, 2019. Owners will received a second letter and the recall began March 26, 2020. Owners may contact FCA customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA's number for this recall is VA6.

  • AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:DRIVER CLOCKSPRING/SPIRAL CASSETTECampaign 24V196000 · 14/03/2024

Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) (Stellantis) is recalling certain right hand drive 2016 Jeep Wrangler vehicles. Debris contamination may cause the clockspring to fail, preventing the driver's air bag from deploying in a crash.

Risk: An air bag that does not deploy in a crash can increase the risk of injury.

Fix: Dealers will replace the clockspring, steering wheel back cover, and steering column shrouds, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 4, 2024. Owners may contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA US, LLC's number for this recall is 27B.

  • AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:SENSOR/CONTROL MODULE-INACTIVECampaign 16V734000 · 13/10/2016

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2016-2017 Jeep Wrangler vehicles manufactured June 16, 2015, to August 14, 2016. In certain crash conditions, the front impact sensor wiring may be pulled until it detaches before a signal can be received by the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC).

Risk: If the ORC module does not receive a signal from the front impact sensor, both frontal air bags and the seat belt pretensioners will not deploy in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Fix: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will reroute the front impact sensor wiring and relocate the impact sensor branch, free of charge. The recall began on November 10, 2016. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is S76.

  • AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:DRIVER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULECampaign 16V288000 · 11/05/2016

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2011-2016 Right Hand Drive Jeep Wrangler vehicles manufactured February 16, 2010, to May 2, 2016. The clockspring assembly may become contaminated with dust and cause the air bag circuit to fail.

Risk: Failure of the air bag circuit may prevent the driver's frontal air bag from deploying in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Fix: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will replace the clockspring, wheel back cover, and column shroud, free of charge. The recall began on August 11, 2016. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is S40.

  • 12/29/2020· POWER TRAIN

ON COLD DAYS AFTER THE JEEP HAS BEEN SITTING OVERNIGHT, THE ENGINE WILL STALL WHEN THE TRANSMISSION IS SHIFTED INTO DRIVE OR REVERSE. THIS HAPPENS WHEN THE JEEP IS STARTED AND IT MAKES NO DIFFERENCE IF THE CAR IS RUNNING FOR 30 SECONDS BEFORE IT IS SHIFTED OR RUNNING FOR 3 MINUTES, THE ENGINE WILL STALL WHEN SHIFTING INTO DRIVE OR REVERSE. THIS HAPPENED LAST WINTER AND HAS STARTED DOING IT AGAIN NOW THAT ITS COLD.

  • 12/28/2022· ENGINE

Oil Housing Unit crack. Just bought vehicle used. Weather dropped to 28 degrees and oil housing unit cracked. All oil poured out of vehicle and would not hold any oil when more was added. Took vehicle to Jeep dealer and they confirmed that the PLASTIC piece that was the original part cracked and that this is a very common problem for 2014-2017 Jeeps due to the part being plastic. Part is not covered under any warranty and will cost $1200 to repair. I'm told that the replacement parts have been updated and are no longer made of plastic due to the high instance of problems. All research shows that this was to be a recall but that it has not been made official. This is a huge safety concern as the oil completely drained from the vehicle upon crack. Had I not been in my own driveway and driving down the highway, this would have caused major issues, engine failure and very possibly an accident. We were planned to be on a 6hr road trip moments before this occurred in the driveway. This part needs to be recalled and replaced by the manufacturer since it is a common and known problem with many Jeeps manufactured during that time frame.

ENGINE OIL COOLER FAIL, EXTREME FIRE HAZARD. SMALL AMOUNT OF OIL FOUND ON DRIVEWAY WHILE PARKED, ATTEMPTED TO LOCATE SOURCE BY STARTING ENGINE. OIL FLOODED OUT OF THE ENGINE, STREAMING DOWN THE ENGINE TO THE FRAME. HAD MY WIFE DRIVEN THE JEEP TO WORK IT WOULD'VE PROBABLY CAUGHT FIRE ONCE THE OIL REACHED THE EXHAUST.

  • 12/28/2019· POWER TRAIN

VEHICLE STALLS WHEN PUT INTO REVERSE WHEN COLD. THIS DOES NOT MEAN ONLY FIRST START OF THE DAY. WHEN TRANSMISSION FLUID IS UNDER 120 DEGREES, IT WILL STALL IN REVERSE WITH BRAKE DEPRESSED. UPON RESTART, THE STARTER WILL ENGAGE FOR A PROLONGED PERIOD EVEN AFTER THE VEHICLE STARTS, THE STARTER WILL CONTINUE TO RUN TOO LONG. WHEN THE VEHICLE RESTARTS AFTER A STALL, IT WILL IDLE ROUGH WHEN SHIFTED BACK INTO REVERSE. NO PROBLEMS IN DRIVE. STARTED AT A MILEAGE OF AROUND 35,000. VEHICLE NOW AT 58,000 AND HAS PROGRESSIVELY WORSENED.

  • 12/27/2022· STEERING,AIR BAGS,SERVICE BRAKES

This Jeep is a right hand drive wrangler. Airbag light, traction control light came on, and my horn quit working. Cruise control quit working, and then my antilock brake system was malfunctioning. I couldn't figure out why. So I went to both the Jeep dealership, and the local autozone where they scanned my Jeep for codes, and it's saying a bad clockspring. They said there is a known recall for 2016 models, but mine isn't included. They said to figure out why this Jeep is not included. . Why is my Jeep not included in the already known recall for the bad clock springs?

I NOTICED AN OIL BURNING SMELL AND UPON FURTHER INSPECTION SAW OIL ALL OVER THE UNDERCARRIAGE OF MY VEHICLE INCLUDING THE TRANSMISSION AND EXHAUST . LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD AND NOTICED OIL UNDERNEATH MY ENGINE COVER BY THE OIL FILTER HOUSING. SO NOW EVERY TIME I DRIVE IT SMELLS LIKE IT'S ON FIRE. SO I GUESS THEY ARE NOT WORRIED ABOUT THE PEOPLE WHO BUY THEIR VEHICLES BURNING UP.

I THEN SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE AND RESTARTED IT AND IT DROVE FINE. THIS HAPPENS RANDOMLY (COULD OCCUR TWICE IN ONE DAY OR NOT FOR 2 WEEKS) AND AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS (CITY AND HIGHWAY). I ALSO HAVE HAD RANDOM MISFIRE CODES AND CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR CODES. SOMETIMES THE CODES CLEAR ON THEIR OWN AND I HAVE HAD TO RESET THE CODES WITH A TUNER. I SPOKE TO THE DEALER AND IT WILL BE AROUND A WEEK BEFORE THEY CAN LOOK AT IT, EVEN IN LIGHT OF THE DANGER FOR AN ENGINE JUST DYING.

I recently got into an accident in my 2016 Jeep Wrangler. My airbags never deployed however. Also my buttons on the left side of my steering wheel do not work and my horn does not work. After realizing all this I believe it is an issue with the clock spring. I did research and found in 2024 there was a recall for the clock spring but only in the RHD model. My car is a LHD model but it seems the same issue has occurred and my clock spring failed.

I started my Jeep. After a few minutes I could smell smoke and something burning. The alarm started going off, wipers came on, radio etc. smoke came inside cab . I tried to shut everything off but it wasn’t working. I started seeing flames around the hood. My husband was able to disconnect the battery and the fire died out. Insurance would not cover it and said it was electrical. The fuse box was melted and wire harnesses. The vehicle was right by our garage and could’ve caught our house on fire. My son and I were in the vehicle when the fire started. Thank God we weren’t hurt. I did report this but was told it wasn’t Jeeps fault. A week later another jeep caught fire in the small town I live in. Something isn’t right.

I HAVE GONE THROUGH OVER 4 SETS OF MUD TERRAIN TIRES OVER THE LAST TWO YEARS THAT ARE UNEVENLY WORN AND NO ONE KNEW WHY. MOST RECENTLY, THE REAR RIGHT TIRE HAD A SIDEWALL GASH AND HAD A FLAT TIRE, WE BEGAN SMELLING SMOKE AND ENDED UP TAKING THE JEEP INTO BRAKEMASTERS AND WAS TOLD THE ENTIRE REAR DIFFERENTIAL WAS FAILING AND FALLING APART. WE HAD THE REAR DIFF REPLACED, BRAKES, ROTORS AND PAID $5000 OUT OF POCKET AND AS I WAS DRIVING FROM HOME TO TUCSON THE OTHER DAY TO MY MATERNITY APPOINTMENT, THE BACK RIGHT TIRE BEGAN SCREECHING WHILE NOT BRAKING AND BEGAN SIZZLING AND BURNING WITH OIL COMING OUT FROM THE TIRE. I IMMEDIATELY STOPPED AT THE NEAREST BRAKEMASTERS AND THEY SAID THAT AN ENTIRELY NEW REAR DIFFERENTIAL IS NEEDED. NOT ONLY COULD THE JEEP HAVE CAUGHT ON FIRE WITH THIS SAFETY ISSUE BUT I KEPT LOSING CONTROL OF THE STEERING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CITY WITH A 2 YEAR OLD AND ONE ON THE WAY. I AM HOPING TO SEE SOME SORT OF RESOLUTION ON THIS AND TO BE COMMUNICATED WITH OTHER JEEP OWNERS OF THIS SAFETY ISSUE.

OUR JEEP HAS A RECALL FOR A SENSOR WIRE IN THE FRONT AREA OF THE VEHICLE. I DROPPED THE JEEP AT THE DEALERSHIP (MALL OF GEORGIA CHRYSLER JEEP IN BUFORD GA) AND RECEIVED A SHUTTLE RIDE HOME. I WAS CALLED A FEW HOURS LATER BY MY ADVISOR [XXX] AND TOLD THAT I NEEDED TO REMOVE THE WINCH, WINCH PLATE, LIGHT BAR, AND LIGHTS ON THE FRONT BUMPER. THE TECH NEEDS TO REMOVE GRILL AND CANNOT WITH THIS EQUIPMENT IN THE WAY. THEY OFFERED TO REMOVE ALL THE EQUIPMENT FOR ME FOR $250. I TOLD THE ADVISOR ([XXX]) THAT THE LETTER RECEIVED IN THE MAIL IS ADAMANT THAT THIS IS TO BE DONE AT NO COST TO THE OWNER. HE TOLD ME THAT IT DID NOT INCLUDE CUSTOM EQUIPMENT. I CALLED FCA, AS MY LETTER EXPLAINED I SHOULD DO IF THE DEALER WAS NOT RESOLVING MY ISSUE. I EXPLAINED THE SITUATION AS I HAVE ABOVE. THE FCA AGENT (I DO NOT HAVE HER NAME, BUT GAVE THEM MY INFO) FIRST INDICATED TO ME THAT THERE SHOULD NOT BE ANY CHARGES FOR RECALL REPAIRS, SO SHE CALLED THE DEALER, TALKED TO [XXX], AND CAME BACK TO MY LINE TELLING ME EXACTLY WHAT [XXX] HAD TOLD ME THAT A CHARGE WOULD BE EXPECTED TO REMOVE THE CUSTOM EQUIPMENT SO THEY CAN REPAIR THIS VEHICLE. SHOULD THERE EVER BE A REASON FOR CHARGING A CUSTOMER FOR A RECALL REPAIR, IN A SAFETY RECALL SITUATION SUCH AS THIS? *TR

RECEIVED NOTICE FROM JEEP THAT A RECALL WAS IN EFFECT FOR THE AIRBAG SENSOR SWITCH LOCATED SOMEWHERE WITHIN THE FRONT BUMPER.. THE SWITCH MAYBE DISCONNECTED AT TIME OF IMPACT AND NOT MESSAGE THE AIR BAGS TO DEPLOY... THE HARD ROCK ADDITION JEEP HAS AN ACCESS PORT LOCATED WITHIN THE FRONT BUMPER SPECIFICALLY FOR THE PURPOSE OF INSTALLING A WINCH/WINCH PLATE... DEALERSHIP ADVISED IT WOULD COST ADDITIONAL 100 DOLLARS TO REPAIR THE RECALL AS THE WINCH WOULD HAVE TO BE REMOVED PARTIALLY OR IN TOTAL... CONTACTED CUSTOMER SERVICE / CASE MANAGEMENT AT JEEP CORP AND WAS ADVISED IT WOULD NOT COVER THE COST TO REMOVE THE WINCH THAT IT WAS MORE OR LESS BETWEEN THE DEALERSHIP AND ME.. MY THOUGHTS ARE THAT THE BUMPER WAS DESIGNED BY JEEP TO INSTALL A WINCH INSIDE THE BUMPER WITH TOP AND FRONT REMOVABLE PLATES AND THAT THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE REGARDLESS....

The contact owns a 2016 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while driving on wet roads, the vehicle lost traction, failed to accelerate as intended, and caused the tires to spin before accelerating. While depressing the brake pedal, the wheels locked up, and the vehicle failed to come to a gradual stop. The ABS control module displayed DTC: C2200 (Internal ABS Module Failure). The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who confirmed the fault code. The vehicle was not repaired because the Part Number 68259556AD was on back order. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the part was still under engineering review, and that a remedy had not yet been found. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.

  • 12/05/2025· VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,SERVICE BRAKES

The ABS Module (Part 68259556AD) on my 2016 Jeep Wrangler began failing about two years ago. When the ABS warning light turns on, both the ABS and traction-control systems stop functioning, creating a serious safety hazard: greatly increased stopping distance, reduced steering control under braking, and higher risk of loss of control on wet or slippery roads. The warnings, once intermittent, are now continuously illuminated, meaning the vehicle has no working ABS or traction control at any time. Performance Jeep of Somerville (Somerville, NJ) inspected the vehicle around September 2023 and confirmed the ABS module had failed. They also confirmed the replacement part was unavailable, with no estimate from Jeep on when it would be supplied, and suggested a possible upcoming national recall—none has been issued. The ABS module has now been on national backorder for roughly two years. Jeep’s parts division states the part is still “supported” but on “heavy backorder.” Jeep/Stellantis corporate opened a case, promised to “fast track” it, and later reported supplier “tooling/manufacturing” issues, offering no timeline for availability despite repeated follow-ups. Please note that Performance Jeep has informed me that they have several aging orders in for the ABS Module (Part 68259556AD) that they're unable to fulfill, so it would appear that on a national basis, there must be many Jeep owners such as myself who are experiencing this problem with no remedy in sight. Because the part cannot be obtained, the vehicle cannot be safely driven or repaired. This is a safety-critical defect with long-term parts unavailability. I am requesting NHTSA review and intervention, as the manufacturer has been unable to supply a federally required safety component, leaving the vehicle in an unsafe condition with no remedy.

Looking into the engine from the top a large , deep pool of oil was sitting in the middle of the engine and working its way on to hot components of engine and exhausts and smoking. This could have easily become fire hazard in high temperature desert environment where running temperatures and hot exhaust pipes could start a fire. The engine miss fire and sudden loss of power was checked to be failing ignition coils and plugs that are supposed to be warrantied to 100K miles. The Pentastar V6 3.6 oil cooler was leaking badly and its effect could have been disasterous for the engine and car safety. The Oil Cooler faulty plastic design on this engine is a well known problem that Chrysler is refusing to address as recall on Wranglers sold . There are hundreds of complaints and cases of failure of this plastic component on the internet and the dealers are all well aware of it and happy to charge $2k for replacement. Chrysler and the dealer refused to admit the faulty oil cooler design and also would not accept ignition coil and spark plug replacement under the Std 80,000 miles California Emission Control warranty that come with all engines sold in CA. Chrysler is hiding this faulty design on Wranglers but accepted it on other Chrysler cars.

Parked vehicle outside corner of home at 9:00 pm. Awoken by loud popping and hissing sounds at 4:45AM. Looked outside to notice a bright orange hue by vehicle. Realizing the car was on fire, we called 911 and proceeded to use garden hose to water down both the vehicle and the home that the car was next to, in order to try to prevent the house from also catching fire. Vehicle was not moved nor accessed during those 7 overnight hours. It was locked and we were all asleep. There were two other vehicles parked next to and behind the vehicle that caught fire - those two other vehicles sustained no damage to them. The house sustained some minimal siding warping from the heat of the fire. Fire chiefs reviewing the damage in person as well as viewing photos have stated that it appears to be battery or fuse box related as that side of the engine's damage was greatest as well as the battery and fuse box being completely destroyed by the fire. No warning lights or indications of system failures or malfunctions prior to parking the car. Vehicle was towed away from scene by insurance company. Unsure if vehicle is still at that lot or not. Insurance deemed vehicle totaled and issued check for losses.

BRAKES SEIZED UP WITH ONLY 37,000 MILES. IT REQUIRED A FULL FRONTAL BRAKE REBUILD. THE MECHANICS SAID THIS SHOULDN'T HAVE HAPPENED WITH SUCH LOW MILEAGE AND YEAR. BECAUSE THEY WERE "SEIZED" UP, IT CAUSED EVERYTHING TO HEAT UP AND RUINED THE CALIPERS, PAD AND ROTARS. IT WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE WHEN WE TOOK IT IN TO THE MECHANIC.

There is a current recall for the RHD version of my Jeep for the clockspring. The bad clockspring causes many issues including air bag deployment issues. This issue does also affect the LHD. I’m currently dealing with it myself.

AROUND 8:00 PM ON 9 NOV 2017 I WAS DRIVING ON A BUSY HIGHWAY GOING APPROXIMATELY 60 - 65 MPH IN THE FAR LEFT LANE WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, ABS LIGHT, AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON. THEN THE VEHICLE ENGINE SHUT OFF. IT WOULD NOT TURN BACK ON AND I HAD TO SLOWLY COAST TO THE FAR RIGHT LANE. I LET THE VEHICLE SIT FOR A FEW MINUTES AND IT STARTED RIGHT UP, THE SAME WARNING LIGHTS WERE ON AND WHEN I TRIED TO PRESS DOWN ON THE GAS PEDAL IT WOULD JUST MAKE A THUMPING NOISE AND WOULD ONLY MOVE A LITTLE BIT. WAITED AN HOUR FOR A TOW TRUCK. IT IS CURRENTLY AT A DEALERSHIP TO FIND OUT WHAT IS WRONG WITH IT.

DEATH WOBBLE - THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE OWNING THE JEEP - PAID OUT OF POCKET FOR NEW TRACK BAR (DIDN'T FIX PROBLEM) - TOOK JEEP TO DOMINION OF BEDFORD (JEEP DEALER) THEY SAID THEY COULDNT FIND ANYTHING LOOSE ON FRONT END AND RECOMMENDED GETTING VEHICLE ALIGNED (PAID OUT OF POCKET TO DOMINION OF BEDFORD) - HAD VEHICLE ALIGNED (ALMOST $300, DIDN'T FIX PROBLEM) - TOOK JEEP TO A DIFFERENT MECHANIC AND THEY ADVISED NOTHING COULD BE FOUND THAT WAS LOOSE - EXTREMELY DANGEROUS WHEN OPERATING AT HIGHWAY SPEED BECAUSE THERE IS VERY LITTLE CONTROL OF VEHICLE AND WHEN I'M ON THE HIGHWAY I CAN'T JUST SLOW DOWN WITHOUT POSSIBLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT - WE HAVE RECEIVED NO NOTICES FROM JEEP ABOUT THIS ISSUE OR WHAT THEY ARE DOING TO FIX THE PROBLEM
