  Six months after we purchased our 2016 Jeep Patriot Sport 4w the check engine light illuminated on and off for a couple of weeks. After that time frame it became a permanent fixture. As well as unpredictable and frequent stalling while driving or stopping at red lights/deceleration of gas pedal of vehicle. The vehicle would not start again for hours...even days after these episodes making it difficult and unaffordable to operate safely. A diagnostic was performed when the vehicle decided to start days later and the crankshaft position sensor code was read by the trouble code. We then called a mobile mechanic who charged us $325 to replace the crankshaft position sensor/ relearn included to no avail. Although did confirm the part would need to be replaced. The vehicle hasn't started since the replacement therefor a relearn could not be performed. Researching the possible problems, I noticed many complaints on the same and similar models as well as a high rate of reoccurrence w the same parts (cam/crankshaft position sensor). We notified the dealership and they informed us it would be $199 to run a diagnostic if we could afford to have it towed to them... Witch we could not. I have included the receipt from the mobile mechanic and it is in fact available for inspection upon request.

  MY CAR JUST STOPPED WORKING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH!!. IT JUST DIED. LUCKILY 3 STRANGERS PUSHED ME TO SAFETY. IT STARTED WORKING SOON AFTERWARD ONLY TO GET STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AGAIN. IT WAS TOWED TO MY MECHANIC AND DIAGNOSED THAT THE CRANKPOSTITION SENSOR IS BAD. IT IS RECALLED ON OTHER 2016 JEEP PATRIOTS BUT NOT COVERED ON THIS ONE. IT WAS MANUFACTURED BEFORE THE RECALL. I HOPE YOU WILL CONSIDER INCLUDING THIS CAR UNDER THE RECALL. MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING THE CAR AND SHE COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED. THE ABRUPT STOPPING OF THIS VEHICLE ON A HIGHWAY IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD. I AM SO THANKFUL THAT SHE WAS NOT INJURED BUT IT COULD HAVE BEEN SO MUCH WORSE. WE HAD NO IDEA WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THE CAR AND AM UPSET TO KNOW THAT THIS FAULTY SENSOR CAUSED THIS TO HAPPEN. IT SHOULD BE RECALLED TO PREVENT POSSIBLE INJURY TO OTHERS.

  The contact owned a 2016 Jeep Patriot. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled which caused another vehicle to crash into the front passenger side of the contact's vehicle. The failure occurred on several different occasions where the vehicle would stall. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The air bags were deployed. No injuries were sustained. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the vehicle was totaled. The contact did research and was made aware of NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V907000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 7,400.

I went to get my brakes done and rotors the mechanic noticed that there were no emergency brakes on the vehicle they were weld off and I called car lock they said I had to get that fixed it isn't under warranty. How you sell me a unsafe vehicle with no emergency brakes. I have only had this vehicle 3 months.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REPAIR DID NOT CORRECT THE FAILURE WITH THE CAMSHAFT SENSOR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START INTERMITTENTLY WHEN ATTEMPTING TO DRIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE SAME DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED, BUT NO FAILURE CODE WAS FOUND. THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE REPAIR WAS REMEDIED BY THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED THE CONTACT TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER IF THE FAILURE SHOULD RECUR. THE MANUFACTURER PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 71595328. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 20,000. THE VIN WAS INVALID.

  I purchased the vehicle 4 months ago, and this began at the end of September. Engine stalls out when driving down the highway, check engine light and road hazard lights come on and car trying to accelerate itself at times and other times won’t go over 40 mph. If you let off the brake the car immediately launches forward. I have almost been hit as the car stalls out of no where. I can pull over and turn it off then back on and it will drive for a few miles then happen again. The car was hooked up to the code reader and it says throttle body injector P2173

The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to an independent mechanic, who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired.   The driver headrest deployed without being in an accident. Took my vehicle to Phillips Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram dealership on November 24, 2025 and the associate informed of the recalls/warranty I have. The invoice comment from the dealership "Performed inspection driver side front headrest has failed cannot replace due to part being discontinued." This results in driving a vehicle that is unsafe. I spoke with Chrysler hotline regarding the issue 12/2, 12/3, 12/8, 12/17 and was given a case # 94878288 which was closed without the problem being fixed/repaired. Just trying to get this issue resolved while the part is a recall and covered through the warranty.

  Traction light will come on intermittently and abs and brake lights will flash and go away intermittently and all lights on dash and headlights will dim, radio shuts off, rpms will drop to 0 then go back to normal all while driving. Both camshaft sensors have been replaced twice in under a year. All spark plugs have been replaced twice in under a year as well as the crankshaft sensor. Something is constantly draining my battery (headlights are set on auto and interior lights are always set to off) There was a recall for camshaft/crankshaft wiring but my vehicle was not included in the recall.

  While driving the car, the motor just stops running unexpectedly, with no warning at all. While driving on the highway it stopped running and had to try to control the car without the power steering because the car had stopped and muscled the car as it coasted to the side of the road, while getting the car to the berm. A semi truck was behind us and came very close to hitting us. I had to put the car in park, turn the key to off position and then restart it to resume driving. This a road hazard and accident waiting to happen. This has happened about a dozen of times within the past month and seems to be doing it more often. Also, when driving, with my foot on the gas pedal, it seems as if someone hits the brake for a second and jerks the car and resumes as if nothing has happened. After we got it the car start I called the dealership and told them what had happened, we took it in the same day, and picked it up the next day. We were told that they could not replicate what we had reported. They could not find anything wrong with the vehicle.

  I would like to know if the vehicle was in the flood of 2020 1st of all. I've had this vehicle in Many times before I was told there was no maintenance work done prior to me buying it from a dealer. Been addressing a bad odder upon starting the vehicle for over a year. The smell is in the cab also. Now being told it could be the catalytic converter @ 51,000 miles on the vehicle. I've already spent over $1,300.00 to cover normal maintenance that was never done by the dealer I bought the vehicle from. My extended warranty ran out a month or so ago. This has put my life in danger being I'm breathing exhaust/ fumes. Please advise & thank you

It has a Restraint System Control Module that has quit responding and as a result has no Restraints that are operable. The part has been on order for over a month and the latest update from Chrysler says there is no ETA available due to the global microchip shortage. I am driving the vehicle out of necessity, but consider it unsafe.

  The crankshaft or cam shaft sensor is malfunctioning and my engine stalls while I am driving. This has happened about 10 times now. I found a recall for this issue on 2016 Jeep Patriots, but my VIN does not come up with any recalls. I believe this recall needs to be expanded.

  Headrest on passenger side of car. We drove it and parked it in the garage. We got up the next morning and the headrest had deployed. Nobody was in the vehicle. If someone had been in the passenger seat they would have been injured. We took it to a car repair site, when they looked at it they said they don't know how that could have happened as we were not in an accident. We sent an email to Jeep and are waiting for a response. We had no warnings of anything being wrong and we have not any recall bulletins or service bulletins.

Shouldn't this vehicle been part of the recall? If so, am I able to recoup any of the repair fees that I have paid?

  ACTIVE HEADREST WAS DEPLOYED/ACTIVATED WHILE IDLE AT A RED LIGHT, THE HEADREST HIT THE BACK OF MY HEAD AND MADE ME RELEASE THE BRAKE WHILE STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT, THERE WAS ALSO A VERY LOUD NOISE (KIND OF LIKE A GUN SHOT NOISE). ALL THIS WHILE I WAS IN PAIN RESULTING FROM THE HEADREST HITTING THE BACK OF MY HEAD.

IT HAPPENED QUICKLY AND POSED A DANGER AS I WAS NOT ABLE TO PULL OVER IMMEDIATELY. THE CAR WAS UNABLE TO GO FASTER THAN 20MPH AND I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED 70 MILES HOME. THIS FAILURE HAS HAPPENED WITH ONLY 33K MILES. THIS SUDDEN AND EARLY FAILURE CREATED A DANGEROUS SITUATION.

  I have had constant electrical issues with my vehicle ever since I bought it in 2018 and I've had to replace the TIPM twice already and it's messing up again! This repair isn't cheap and I feel that JEEP MOPAR should issue a recall regarding the crappy TIPMS they put in this particular vehicle. First of all all the warning lights on the dashboard come off and on intermittentally for no reason and now the doors won't lock using the key fob and my horn doesn't work. And now my ac isn't even working and I don't know if it has something to do with the TIPM or not? But I'm constantly getting an error on the dash that says no bus communication. I know I can't be the only owner of a 2016 Jeep Patriot latitude 2.0 that is experiencing these issues. If anyone else had experienced these issues please send a message to the nhtsa so we can get this issue investigated and elevate it into a recall!

THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,700.

  I continually have the same issue with this vehicle. It started only a couple of months after initial purchase and has happened various times since. Today was one of those days it occurred, the ABS system will turn on along with the traction control light in the middle of the freeway causing the vehicle to immediately slow down, I could not accelerate and was almost hit by the car behind me because of it. The last time this happened I was in a remote location and was stranded for about an hour with no signal to call anyone. When this happens the car does not turn immediately back on and you can hear it continuously cranking. This vehicle has been in and out of the repair shops and the Chrysler hall could not figure out what was wrong with it. It stopped doing it but now it started again. I notice that when this happens the car starts tugging while driving and will spin out when attempting to brake. It happens randomly and that is very scary and dangerous.

  VEHICLE IS STALLING WITHOUT WARNING AT LOW OR HIGH SPEEDS, WITH LOSS OF BRAKE ASSIST AND STEERING ASSIST. MULTIPLE VISITS TO DEALER HAVE NOT SOLVED THE PROBLEM AS DEALER CLAIMS HE CAN NOT DUPLICATE. IN SEVERAL OF THE STALLING INCIDENTS, A CRITICALLY HAZARDOUS CONDITION WAS CREATED. STALL HAS OCCURRED BOTH IN STRAIGHT LINE TRAVEL AND IN TURNS AT INTERSECTIONS.
