  I drive a 2016 jeep compass and I was heading into work at 5AM when my electronic throttle control light, check engine light and traction control light all came on. I lost the ability to accelerate so I pulled off on the side of the road and turned off my car. When I turned it back on only the check engine light came on so I started driving once again but my throttle control light blinked on a couple of times causing my vehicle to automatically slow down. I limped my car to work then home again with the same problem(same lights on). I have looked up to see what other jeep owners have said about this and they're several complaints of the throttle body failing but jeep not doing anything about it. This is a big problem that needs to be taken care of before someone seriously gets hurt when it goes out.

  Yesterday I had the Crankshaft Position Sensor replaced because of the ongoing stalling while idle and stalling while in motion issues. Today it has stalled 5 times while in motion on surface streets and the highways going over 40 mph and twice in a parking when sitting idle or initial startup. For the times when in motion and it stalled I was able to get off the road and avoid any collisions. This is unsafe, the truck must sit for an unknown period of time before it will restart. I am currently sitting on the freeway with hazards until it restarts. I spoke with Chrysler recall and they say there is nothing wrong with the truck and the information online showing multiple 2016 Jeep Compass stalling issues doesn’t mean anything because it’s not in the Jeep database. In the past when it stalls the check engine light normally does not come on. In my research it shows other owners being told the dealer cans dx anything because no errors. We are supposed to just drive these death traps until one of us dies before Chrysler will do anything. I am not financially able to go to a dealer and pay for diagnostics and repairs. As it stand I paid over $400 yesterday for that one part to be replaced. When will Chrysler be held accountable for these safety issues related to driving a vehicle that stalls and loses power while in motion. Then will not restart for an unknown amount of time. Why do we have to possibly pay with our lives. If this truck actually held value l could trade it in. But I can’t it’s worth 5k on kbb and the note is at 17k. In a previous complaint I got the mileage wrong and stated 116k.

  We were driving down the road and the car started violently shaking, the check engine light went on and the car wouldn't move. The car needed to be pushed to the gas station and we almost got hit with my son in his car seat. I do believe this is a safety concern that needs to be looked into for a possible recall. The mechanic determined that the transmission needed to be rebuilt.

  The contact owns a 2016 Jeep Compass. The contact stated while driving 35 MPH, the vehicle was swinging from side to side, almost striking the side rails. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that the front passenger’s side control arms and bearings needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the rear of the vehicle experienced a similar failure. The vehicle was not repaired. On another occasion while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact felt warm water dripping onto her leg. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that the air condition pipe was clogged causing the antifreeze to back up and leak. The pipe was unclogged. The manufacturer was contacted and stated there was no recalls on the VIN regarding the failure. The failure mileage was 117,000.

  While driving the vehicle shut down, I lost all steering. It has a history of stalling while driving, stalling while idle, and not restarting for random periods of time. After getting the vehicle restarted it stalled again two more times while driving. I parked in a parking lot for a shopping center. When I cam out after a period of 30-45 minutes - the vehicle will not start and just turns over and over. I used FIXD to determine the camshaft position sensor was listed as a "major" issue - error P0335. I believe this vehicle is unsafe and it is only a matter of time when I will be injured due to the stalling and non-restarting issues. I also believe Chrysler is responsible for this problem. Considering the vast amounts of user evidence online of other owners having the same issues - Chrysler is just waiting for them to age off the road. I purchased the vehicle from Carmax on 6/18/2022 and feel I was sold a lemon. I have made a complaint on this site before. I have called Chrysler and they say there is nothing wrong with my vehicle - it has been repaired and they did their part. Obviously this is not the case for mine and thousands of other owners across the country. Why are we the ones who have to suffer at the negligence of the automaker? Do I have to die or become severely injured for them to take responsibility for their design and manufacturing flaws? Do others have to suffer irreparable damage also? Why won't the government do something about these unsafe vehicle we were sold? It is not enough to say "well there are no active recalls".

  THE PASSENGER SEAT BELT DOES NOT SEEM TO FULL ENGAGE WHEN I CLICK MY SEAT BELT. I HAD NOTICED WHEN WE CAME TO A SUDDEN STOP WHILE DRIVING TO A NEARBY STORE AND THE SELF BELT CAME UNDONE RIGHT AFTER I HAD CLICKED IT IN. THANKFULLY THE CONVENIENCE STORE IS ONLY A MILE OR SO AWAY ON A MAIN HIGHWAY ROUTE. I STRONGLY BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND SINCE THEN HAVE MADE SURE TO DOUBLE CHECK BY PULLING ON IT TO SEE IF IT'S FULLY ENGAGED. THERE ARE TIME WHERE IT'LL KEEP COMING UNDONE AND I HAVE TO KEEP CLICKING IT ON UNTIL IT FULLY ENGAGED.

  First noticed condensation on the inside of the windshield and dealership alledgedly unclogged sunroof drains.Then noticed ice formed on the inside of the windshield and passenger floor-board carpet damp specifically by door jam seal. While driving water pooled and leaked through front dome light. Having water fall through the ceiling via the light while driving through an intersection presents a safety issue because of distraction, visibility and potential electrical issues due to water damage. The Vehicle is currently back at the dealership and they are trying to recreate the problem. There were no warning lamps, messages other than the condensation, ice on the inside of the windshield.

  ON DECEMBER 9, 2016 I RENTED A JEEP COMPASS AND ON THAT DAY I HAD A ROLL OVER ACCIDENT. I WAS DRIVING IN THE COUNTRY. VERY LOW TRAFFIC AREA. BEFORE APPLYING THE BRAKE, I WAS DRIVING AT A SAFE SPEED FOR THE ROAD CONDITIONS - FIFTEEN TO TWENTY MPH ON FRESH SNOW AND SOME PACKED SNOW OVER A PAVED ROAD BASE. AT ABOUT TWENTY TO TWENTY FIVE FEET BEFORE A STOP SIGN I BEGAN TO APPLY THE BRAKE. THE BRAKE DID NOTHING. THERE WAS CLICKING NOISES AND THE COMPASS SEEMED TO ACCELERATE. I CONTINUED TO APPLY THE BRAKE AS I ROLLED THROUGH THE STOP AREA FOR THE STOP SIGN. THE PAVED ROAD ENDED AT THE STOP SIGN AND TURNED INTO A DIRT ROAD BASE. AT THIS POINT I TURNED THE WHEEL AS THE MOMENTUM CONTINUED. I WAS HOPING THE DIRT ROAD BASE WOULD PROVIDE GRAB FOR THE TURNED FRONT TIRES AND STEER THE COMPASS TO THE DIRECTION OF THE DIRT ROAD. THERE WAS NO GRAB AND THE COMPASS CONTINUED TO DRIVE ACROSS THE DIRT ROAD FOR ABOUT ANOTHER TWENTY FEET AS I CONTINUED TO APPLY THE BRAKE. I HAD APPLIED THE BRAKE FOR ABOUT FORTY-FIVE FEET WHEN I SEE THE TEN FOOT DROP DITCH AHEAD OF ME. THE COMPASS DIDN'T SLOW, EVER. IT SEEMED TO ACCELERATE. IT WOULDN'T BE DIRECTED BY STEERING IT. I HAD NO CONTROL OVER IT. AT THIS POINT I DID ALL THAT I COULD THINK OF TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. I LOOKED AT THE DITCH AND KNEW THAT THE SUV AND I WOULD RECEIVE DAMAGE. THE COMPASS ROLLED INTO THE DITCH. WHEN THE SUV FINALLY STOPPED I WAS UP SIDE DOWN. FOR ME TO BEST DESCRIBE THIS JEEP COMPASS IS THAT IT WAS A "TERMINATOR". IT HAD A MIND OF ITS OWN.   I have been having issues with my vehicle for the past month or so. I took it to a mechanic and they said that my Power Transfer Unit is bad and my vehicle currently doesn't have 4 wheel drive capability. My vehicle periodically stutters, slows and looses power while driving at freeway speeds. During all of my issues, not once has my check engine light or any sort of indicator has lit up letting me know I have an issue with my vehicle. I thought newer cars are supposed to know when there is an issue with the vehicle. This is completely unacceptable and now I'm looking at over $2,000 in repairs.

  AS A MOTHER OF THREE CHILDREN, THE YOUNGEST ONLY BEING TWO YEARS OLD, I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING MY 2016 JEEP COMPASS. EVERY SINGLE TIME I DRIVE THE VEHICLE THE MOTOR RANDOMLY STALLS OUT WHILE DRIVING SEVERAL DIFFERENT TIMES. MY CAR IS VERY WELL MAINTAINED AND DRIVEN EASILY AND EVEN WITH THE GAS PEDAL UNDER LIGHT LOAD IT STALLS OUT LEAVING ME IMMOBILE OR THE VEHICLE MISFIRING AND JERKING FORWARD VIOLENTLY STRUGGLING TO DRIVE WHICH PUTS MY CHILDREN AND I IN DANGEROUS OR POTENTIALLY DEADLY SITUATIONS. THIS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME. THIS IS DUE TO A BAD CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR AND OR BAD WIRING FROM THE FACTORY. WHEN I TYPE MY VIN NUMBER INTO THE NHTSA WEBSITE FOR RECALLS IT SAYS MY VEHICLE HAS NO ACTIVE RECALLS. THERE ARE SEVERAL OTHER JEEP COMPASS'S OF THE SAME YEAR AND MODEL WITH THIS EXACT ISSUE UNDER RECALL AND MY VEHICLE NEEDS TO BE INCLUDED IN THAT RECALL AS WELL. MY CAR IS ONLY TWO YEARS OLD IT SHOULD BE A RELATIVELY SAFE AND RELIABLE VEHICLE NOT SOMETHING I WORKED SO HARD TO BUY AND AN AFFRAID TO DRIVE.

  The contact's daughter owns a 2016 Jeep Compass. While the contact’s daughter was driving at various speeds, the RPM started fluctuating, the vehicle stalled, and lost power steering functionality. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact's daughter was unable to pull over to the side of the road. The contact's daughter was able to restart the vehicle and continued driving. Additionally, the contact stated that while her daughter was driving 65 MPH at night, the failure recurred. The vehicle was restarted after 15 minutes, and the vehicle was driven to the residence. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V907000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 102,000.

  I’ve had plans with my Transmission. This is its third time. First two times were under 30,000 miles and still under warranty. And were replaced by the dealer . Using my warranty. There was also a motor fire. Brakes and rotors all the way around mind you all under 30,000. Transmission was put in. I am now at 101,500. And transmissions going out so it’s been parked. Sitting in my garage. The warning lamps come on, which is a parentheses with a lightning bolt in the middle(️) Last time I did the repairs through Ramona Tires and I paid for out-of-pocket using my credit This time I was told a new transmission for the car is $7000 which I don’t have

THE BRAKE PEDAL DID NOT STOP THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT HAD TO PLACE THE VEHICLE IN PARK IN ORDER TO STOP. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER, TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE, AND NOTIFIED THE POLICE. THE POLICE OFFICER ATTEMPTED TO TURN THE IGNITION, BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. THE VEHICLE FINALLY STARTED AFTER THE FOURTH ATTEMPT AND ONLY THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE NORTHTOWN CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM DEALER (2020 NIAGARA FALLS BLVD, TONAWANDA, NY 14150) BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT HAD NOT DRIVEN THE VEHICLE IN OVER 20 DAYS AND WAS CONCERNED FOR HER SAFETY. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO MIAMI LAKES JEEP (16600 NW 57TH AVE, MIAMI LAKES, FL 33014, (305) 820-3812), BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE REPLICATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER MORE THAN TEN TIMES WITHIN THE LAST FEW YEARS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES AND PROVIDED A CASE NUMBER.   MY JEEP COMPASS 2016 HAD BEEN TO THE MECHANIC IN 2 DIFFERENT GARAGES. FOR 60 DAYS I'VE EXPERIENCED ENGINE SHUT OFF WHILE IN MOTION. THERE WAS NO WARNING, NO ENGINE LIGHT. NO WARNING WHAT SO EVER. THIS SITUATION WAS VERY DANGEROUS AS MY CAR WOULD LOSE POWER IN THE MIDDLE OF THE 4 WAY INTERSECTION, IT WOULD SHUT OFF ON THE FREEWAY. STALL OUT AND SHUT OFF AT STOP LIGHTS. I WAS AFRAID OF DRIVING MY CAR BUT I HAD TO GET TO WORK WHICH WAS 30 MILES AWAY FROM MY HOME. 2 MECHANICS TOLD ME THAT THE ENGINE ON DIAGNOSTIC TESTING SHOWED NO CODES, THEY DID NOT KNOW WHAT WAS WRONG WITH IT. FINALLY A MECHANIC LOOKED AT MY RESEARCH AND AGREED TO REPLACE THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR WHICH HAD BEEN RECALLED ON 2016 COMPASS JEEP BUT MY VIN WAS NOT UNDER THE RECALL (WHY) AFTER THIS SENSOR WAS REPLACED THE CAR DROVE PERFECTLY, NO MORE STALLED ENGINE AND SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING. I BELEIVE THAT JEEP CHRYSLER SHOULD PAY FOR THIS REPAIR AS IT IS A 2016 JEEP COMPASS AND THEY HAVE FIXED OTHERS. I WILL NEVER BUY A JEEP OR CHRYSLER. MOST SCARY CAR PROBLEM I EVER ENCOUNTERED. I AM A 55 YEAR OLD DRIVER, HAVING DRIVEN OVER A MILLION MILES IN MY LIFE TIME. TO HAVE A CAR SHUT OFF ITS ENGINE IN MID FLIGHT IS VERY DANGEROUS. HOPE THIS WILL HELP OTHERS UNDERSTAND WHAT IS HAPPENING IF THEY OWN A JEEP.

  Engine cuts out while driving. Had to pull over to the side and reset by instructions from Google. Took the car to a local garage and he said it was a computer issue. This part was replaced 3-4 years ago and is failing again. A red symbol like a lightning bolt and the check engine light was on.

  RECALL ON 2016 JEEP COMPASS FROM MAY 9TH- JULY 15 THE CRANKSHAFT , CAMSHAFT SENSOR MAY ONLY WORK INTERMITTINGLY CAUSING ENGINE TO STALL. AT 67,000 MILES MY CAR WHICH ALWAYS RAN VERY WELL STALLED, "ENGINE SHUT OFF IN MID FLIGHT" I WAS DRIVING UP A HILL, SLOWED TO STOP AND TURN RIGHT WHEN THE ENGINE DIED, COMPLETELY SHUT OFF. I PUT JEEP IN PARK. TIRED TO RESTART WHICH IT DID NOT RESTART AND I WAITED AN HOUR FOR THE TRIPLE AAA. WE BROUGHT IT TO A MECHANIC WHO TOLD ME HE COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT AS THE DIAGNOSTIC TESTS SHOWED NOTHING , HE STARTED IT AND CLAIMED HE DROVE DOWN THE RODE AND BACK AND IT WAS FINE. I PICKED UP MY JEEP AND DROVE IT HOME BUT WAS AFRAID TO DRIVE IT ANYWHERE. I CALLED MECHANIC NUMBER 2 WHO TOOK A LOOK AT IT AND TOLD ME HIS DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT SHOWED NO CODE, HE DROVE IT AND COULD NOT REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM HE REPAIRED THE THROTTLE BODY REPLACE IT AND CLEANED IAC VALVE AND MASS AIR FLOW SENSORS. TOLD ME IT WAS FINE SHOULD BE OK TO DRIVE. I DROVE IT OFF THE LOT NOT MORE THAN 15 MILES AS I WAS TURNING RIGHT SLOWING DOWN THEN ACCELERATING IT STALLED IN MID FLIGHT CAR ENGINE DIED. I PUT FLASHERS ON AND PUT CAR IN PARK, THEN 2 MINUTES LATER IT STARTED AND I DROVE HOME. THERE IS SOMETHING VERY SERIOUSLY WRONG WITH THIS JEEP IT COULD EASILY BE INVOLVED IN A COLLISION AS IT IS UNPREDICTABLE WHEN IT WILL STOP, ENGINE DIES. I WILL TAKE IT BACK TO MECHANIC NUMBER 2 FOR A SECOND EVALUATION. I HAVE CALLED THE DEALER. THEY TOLD ME THEY WOULD CHARGE ME FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND IF NO PROBLEM I WOULD HAVE TO PAY THEM $117 FOR THE HOUR THEY WOULD PUT THE MECHANIC ON IT TO CHECK IT.

  I PURCHASED THE 2016 JEEP COMPASS USED FROM ROBERTSON HONDA IN PALMDALE CA. THE NEXT DAY I NOTICED THE BREAKS MADE A SQUEAK SOUND WHEN I APPLIED THE BREAKS AT A COMPLETE STOP. THEN TODAY I FOUND OUT FROM CREDIT KARMA THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON MY CAR. I'M CONCERNED AND WOULD LIKE THE PROBLEM ADDRESSED. I WAS NOT TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT MY CAR HAD A MANUFACTURES RECALL.

  The contact owns a 2016 Jeep Compass. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated. While driving uphill, the vehicle was chugging. The vehicle was difficult to shift into gear. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who test-drove the vehicle and retrieved DTC code: P0420 was due to the catalyst system. The contact was also made aware of NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V907000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact called the two other local dealers, Pueblo Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram (2147 US-50, Pueblo, CO 81008) and Perkins Motors (1205 Motor City Dr. 1225, 1231 Motor City Dr., Colorado Springs, CO 80905); but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired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

TO BE SPECIFIC, WHEN I PRESS DOWN ON THE GAS LIGHTLY IT JUMPS, SOMETIMES PRETTY HARD, IT FEELS LIKE THE GAS ISN'T FIRING WHEN I PRESS ON THE ACCELERATOR, IF I PRESS HARDER IT WORKS BETTER THOUGH. IT HAPPENS ON HIGHWAYS OR CITY STREETS, MOSTLY UNDER 60 MPH, BUT ALWAYS IN MOTION, BUT IT CAN SHAKE EVERYONE IN THE VEHICLE WHEN IT MISSES AND IT WORRIES ME THAT IT CAN BE AFFECTING THE ENGINE IN THE LONG RUN. AFTER WORK THAT DAY MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT OFF... RPMS HAD BEEN FLUCTUATING RANDOMLY FOR ABOUT A WEEK.. GOT IN MY CAR THIS MORNING AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS BACK ON AND TRACTION CONTROL COMES AND GOES.   Car stalls while driving. Sometimes car will not start. Car cranks but doesn’t start. Check engine light and sometimes the traction control light goes on. This seems similar to what is the safety recall S89 but our car was manufactured in September 2015. Root cause seems to be in the relay box with the automatic shutdown being corroded and subsequent issues with the crank shaft position sensor based on codes thrown.

  Head rest on passenger side popped out while driving and hit me, the passenger, in the head. I found that this particular model did have a recall a few years back as said below, however, our car was not recalled, why not? We went to the dealership to get this repaired and was told there was a warranty but because this head seat was no longer made they couldn't replace it. What can we do to get this repaired, shouldn't Jeep be responsible and should have notified us of a recall?   I BOUGHT A 2016 JEEP COMPASS BRAND NEW FROM THE DEALERSHIP. AFTER ONLY THREE YEARS (72,500 MILES), THE TRANSMISSION COMPLETELY FAILED WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY. THE JEEP, WHICH IS A MANUAL 5 SPEED TRANSMISSION, WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO ANY GEARS. IT MADE HORRENDOUS GRINDING NOISES AS THE VEHICLE FAILED AND FAILED TO SHIFT INTO GEAR. PRIOR TO IT COMPLETELY DYING, IT WAS STALLING OUT ON ME AND SLIPPING OUT OF SECOND GEAR WHILE DRIVING IT. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN, NOT TO MENTION HOW DISAPPOINTING THAT A CAR WHICH IS ONLY THREE YEARS OLD WOULD HAVE A TRANSMISSION THAT COMPLETELY FAILED ON IT. THE JEEP WAS WELL-MAINTAINED AND GARAGE KEPT. IT WAS NEVER DRIVEN ANYWHERE EXCEPT MAIN ROADS AND HIGHWAYS.
