- SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK/TRACTION CONTROL/ELECTRONIC LIMITED SLIP:CONTROL UNIT/MODULECampaign 20V543000 · 04/09/2020Park outside
Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) recalled certain 2019-2021 Tucson vehicles on September 4, 2020. On December 30, 2020, Hyundai expanded the recall population, and added certain 2016-2018 Tucson vehicles. The Anti-lock Brake Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit (HECU) could corrode internally and cause an electrical short, possibly resulting in an engine compartment fire.
Risk: An engine compartment fire can increase the risk of injury or crash.
Fix: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the HECU fuse. For 2019-2021 model years, the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) software will also be updated. Recall repairs will be performed free of charge. Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures as a precaution until the recall repair is complete. The recall began November 2, 2020. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 195.

HYUNDAI TUCSON ENGINE THE VEHICLE IS BURNING EXCESS AMOUNTS OF OIL. THE RATE OF ENGINE OIL LOSS IS OVER ONE QUART PER 500 MILES. MY MECHANIC TELLS ME HIS EVALUATION IS THE VEHICLE'S TURBO UNIT CAUSES THE ENGINE TO RUN VERY HOT, AND THE INTERNAL SEALS ARE BREAKING DOWN, CAUSING OIL TO MIX WITH THE FUEL. THE SOLUTION IS AN ENGINE REBUILD, WHICH WILL COST OVER $3,000. SUCH A REBUILD WILL RESULT IN THE SAME ISSUE ARISING AGAIN AFTER THE VEHICLE IS IN USE FOR A PERIOD OF TIME. THE MANUFACTURER HAS REFUSED TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE, AS I HAVE CORRESPONDED WITH THEM ABOUT IT. THE ISSUE IS GENERIC TO ALL HYUNDAI TUCSONS WITH 1.6 LITRE TURBOCHARGED ENGINE. MY MECHANIC HAS RESEARCHED THE ISSUE, AND SAYS IT OCCURS IN ALL HYUNDAI TUCSON VEHICLES WITH THIS ENGINE CONFIGURATION. THERE ARE OTHER ISSUES RELATED TO BUILD QUALITY, TRANSMISSION, AND OTHER COMPONENTS, BUT THIS ISSUE OF THE DEFECTIVE ENGINE DESIGN IS OBVIOUSLY THE MOST IMPORTANT. THE DEALER THAT SOLD ME THIS VEHICLE KNEW OF THIS CONDITION AND DID NOT DISCLOSE IT AT THE TIME OF SALE, AND REPRESENTED THAT THE ENGINE WAS IN SOUND WORKING ORDER. *DT*JB

The engine began to make a knocking noise. Upon our inspection, the vehicle had lost all oil. Vehicle was towed to our local dealership. Dealership informed us a bearing had become worn causing rapid oil loss and a rod to break, sending metal shards into the engine compartment. Engine could have seized up or caught on fire, had the vehicle continued to run. Dealership informed us of other Hyundai recalls for the same issue, however we were told our year/make/model was not included. Vehicle had been at same dealership 2 months prior for a heat/AC issue and a complete inspection was completed. No indication of bearing, oil, or engine issue was noted. No warning lights came on at any point.

At the end of November 2021, my oil change light came on, which was odd because I was not due for an oil change. Brought the car in, they changed my oil and the light was gone. Barely a week later, the oil light came on again. I had some guys at work check it and they said I barely had any oil. I scheduled another appointment but never made it. I was driving on the highway when my car starting shaking uncontrollably and dropped down to barely 20mph. I almost created a pileup as cars behind me were swerving out of the way. I was almost hit multiple times and could barely get my car over to the breakdown lane. My check engine light also came on as my speed dropped. I had it towed to a nearby independent garage where the mechanic told me the diagnostic codes showed that I had misfired cylinders. He suggested I bring it to a Hyundai dealership to submit a claim as he knew that those type of engines were having issues. I had it towed again to the nearest Hyundai dealership, where they confirmed that 2 of the cylinders had failed. Hyundai confirmed with me that they had every record of me coming in to the dealership to get any required maintenance done on the car, yet the engine dies when it barely goes over 100,000 miles. And to top it off, when I asked for an estimate for repair, they quoted me $17,000 to fix it!

THE REAR DRIVER SIDE DOOR WILL NOT OPEN FROM THE INSIDE OR OUTSIDE OF THE CAR. THE LOCK DOES CLICK BACK AND FORTH BUT THE DOOR REMAINS STUCK. electrical issues and/or hardware issues with rear windows. understand the issue to be electrical motor and/or window regulator. One window fixed but other to be repaired. in driving, window starts to sag and persons outside the vehicle have attempted to gain entrance through the sagging window. for the repaired window, the dealer inspected and was to repair except the price seemed too high and was only for the window regulator. taken to a glass/auto body shop who indicated both motor and regulator needed to be replaced and charged what the dealer was going to charge for only the replacement of the regulator. the within days after one window fixed, the other window refused to close all the way and the issue of someone trying to gain entrance occurred.

MY 2016 HYUNDAI TUCSON STUMBLES A LOT UPON ACCELERATION FROM A STAND STILL. SOMETIMES WHILE MAKING A TURN. A FEW TIMES IT PUT MY DAUGHTER IN DANGEROUS SITUATIONS. HESITATING WHILE ACCELERATION THOUGH AN INTERSECTION. IT IS VERY FRIGHTENING. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TWICE. ONCE IN JULY 2019 THEN AGAIN IN OCTOBER 2019. THE FIRST TIME THEY TOLD ME THEY HAD NO IDEA WHAT COULD BE CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO HESITATE AND STUMBLE UPON ACCELERATION. THEY TOLD ME THEY HAD RESET THE COMPUTER ON THE CAR IN HOPES THAT IT WILL FIX THE ISSUE. THEN THE SECOND TIME THEY TOLD ME IT MAY BE MY AIR FILTER AND OR MY FUEL INJECTORS NEED CLEANING. I DECLINED BOTH BECAUSE THE DEALER WHO I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM JUST HAD THEM CLEANED AND AIR FILTER WAS ALMOST BRAND NEW. AFTER TRYING TO CONVINCE ME THAT SOMETHING ELSE COULD BE CAUSING THE CAR TO HESITATE HE FINALLY CONFESSED THAT IT WAS A TRANSMISSION ISSUE AND THAT ONE OTHER HYUNDAI CAR HAD THE SAME ISSUE AND THEY HAD NO SOLUTION FOR THE FIX. THEY ALSO SAID THAT THEY WERE WAITING ON HYUNDAI TO COME UP WITH A FIX. IN THE MEAN TIME MY DAUGHTER, WHO I BOUGHT THE CAR FOR, CONTINUES TO DRIVE THE CAR UNTIL HYUNDAI RECALLS THE CAR AND HAVE THIS PROBLEM TAKEN CARE OF.

THIS VEHICLE, AS OTHER 2016 AND 2017 HYUNDAI TUCSONS, HAS A PROBLEM WITH SMOOTH AND SAFE ACCELERATION FROM A DEAD STOP. THERE IS A SPUTTER, HESITATION THAT HAPPENS EACH TIME, SOMETIMES STRONGER THAN OTHERS. IF YOU WERE MAKING A LEFT TURN ACROSS TRAFFIC, THE SPUTTER IS ENOUGH TO PLACE YOU IN POTENTIAL DANGER. WE HAVE TAKEN THIS TO OUR LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALER IN THE 86001 ZIP CODE. WE WERE TOLD THAT OTHER CUSTOMERS WITH THE 2016-17 HYUNDAI TUCSON HAVE SIMILAR COMPLAINTS HOWEVER THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT ISSUED ANY RECALLS NOR MADE ANY SUGGESTIONS ON HOW TO FIX THE PROBLEM. DUAL CLUTCH TRANSMISSION RECALL: I HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH MY TUCSON A WEEK AFTER PURCHASE (JULY 2016). IT'S A BRAND NEW VEHICLE. I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH SHIFTING, ACCELERATING, AND HAVE TAKEN MY VEHICLE IN TO BE LOOKED AT SEVERAL TIMES. THE HYUNDAI DEALER IN IOWA SAID THERE'S NOTHING THEY CAN DO. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE ISSUES I HAVE BEEN HAVING WITH MY VEHICLE BUT NO FIX. IT'S THE DCT (DUAL CLUTCH TRANSMISSION) RECALL; I RECEIVED THIS IN THE MAIL A MONTH OR TWO AFTER PURCHASING MY VEHICLE. THE ONLY SOLUTION THERE IS TO "FIX" THIS EXTREMELY UNSAFE PROBLEM IS AN UPDATE! HYUNDAI SAID THAT I WOULD NEED TO CONTINUE TO BRING IT IN AS LONG AS I'M HAVING THESE ISSUES TO UPDATE. THIS IS A BAND-AID. THERE IS NO PERMANENT FIX AND I FEEL EXTREMELY UNSAFE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE. WHEN MERGING ONTO THE INTERSTATE, I CAN'T ACCELERATE AND HAVE ALMOST BEEN IN MANY ACCIDENTS DUE TO LACK OF POWER AND ACCELERATION FROM THE DCT. THIS HAPPENS NOT ONLY WHEN MERGING ONTO THE INTERSTATE, BUT ALSO IN RURAL AREAS LIKE THE HIGHWAY, MAIN CITY STREETS, AND NEIGHBORHOODS. THIS HAPPENS EVERY DAY FROM A STOP OR WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE FROM A SLOW SPEED. I HAVE A FAMILY, AND THE WHOLE REASON FOR THIS PURCHASE WAS BECAUSE OF THE SAFETY FEATURES; THERE IS NOTHING SAFE ABOUT THIS VEHICLE. I WAS SOLD A DEFUNCT CAR AND AM EXTREMELY UPSET THAT HYUNDAI SOLD ME THIS VEHICLE WHEN THERE WAS A RECALL IN THE MAKING. *TR

I was at a stoplight waiting to turn right. When there was a safe break in traffic I began the right turn, but the engine made a clunking noise and stopped accelerating in the middle of the road. At this point, cars were getting close to me and my car wasn't speeding up, so I turned on my hazard lights and managed to inch onto the shoulder. I had my 5 month old baby in the car with me, so his safety, my safety, and the safety of others on the road were at risk. We took the car to our local Hyundai dealership and they said they couldn't diagnose the issue unless they took the engine apart. They checked all of the fluid levels and electrical connections, the battery, all of that was normal but we didn't have the $500+ they wanted to take the engine apart, so that did not get checked. This car had less than 100,000 miles on it and was in great shape. We had it for less than a year and did not even drive it every day. There were no warning lights or messages or anything to let me know that there was a problem. The engine starting making that clunking noise about five minutes before it died. I was on the highway and got off the nearest exit to check for problems but the car stopped moving before I could get someplace safe to take a look. Other than that, there was no indication of any issue, and no issues spotted during any routine maintenance/oil changes.

Dealership has quoted me $18,000 for the repair, which is what I paid when I bought it used in 2019. At this point, I'm dealing with catastrophic engine failure and Hyundai won't do anything about their faulty product and is seeking to take full advantage. While driving on the highway at normal speed, the vehicle suddenly lost power and shut off without warning. There were no warning lights or messages prior to the loss of power. I was able to safely pull over, but the engine would not restart at that time and the vehicle required towing. The sudden engine shutdown occurred in active traffic and created a safety risk due to loss of propulsion. The vehicle later restarted, but I brought it to an authorized Hyundai dealership for inspection. The dealership diagnosed internal engine damage, including piston ring failure and cylinder wall scoring, and advised that the engine would need to be replaced. Since the incident, the vehicle has shown intermittent oil pressure warning lights and reduced performance. The issue has been confirmed by a dealer inspection. The vehicle is currently not considered reliable or safe for regular driving.

I was informed not to drive my car to further damage the vehicle. I do not drive it but now am stuck in a loan for a vehicle I cannot drive. I had zero warning for this matter.

All my doors stick and sometimes I have to fight with my car to even get a door open. Also, when trying to accelerate sometimes my throttle response is slow and i will not move for a few seconds.

The windows do not roll up or down. This will jeopardize my safety because my vehicle would prevent me from being able from escaping through the window in an emergency. Or a person that means me harm can pull down my window climb in and pull it back up and hide in my car till I return because I am unable to secure my vehile. The problem is common, we were told that hyundai tucsons often have a window issue. I origanly had one windoe with this issue and now 3 out of 4 windows can not automatically roll up or down. It has not been inspected yet. There were no indication prior that this would happen.

Engine heating problems, electrical problems and now engine failure, the vehicle is no longer safe to drive. The vehicle is available for inspection. Other vehicles of same make, model, and year have been recalled for these issues however mine has not. I feel it has the same types of issues and safety concerns which should be recalled. The issues began with electrical problems inside the vehicle, random check engine lights coming on then off and other lights popping up in the dash board, the car was not accelerating properly, took the car in and they could not find a problem or fix it. The engine began heating and the speed of vehicle was also being affected. The car would randomly slow down quickly while on the highway at 70 MPH which happened a couple of times and was not safe at all, it could have caused a horrible accident. I could not accelerate enough to stay on the highway. That issue was fixed when we took the vehicle into the dealership to fix and should have been a recall as other cars where having the same issue. Hyundai should be held responsible for issues such as this that are affecting many other Hyundai Tucson drivers. Oil keeps depleting and the engine is burning through fast, also another concern and safety issue as that causes the engine to over heat and potentially cause a fire. A loud noise is coming from the vehicle, sounds like a helicopter it happened suddenly with no check engine light or warning. I'm concerned this car could catch fire, many Tucson's have had warning of catching fire. I don't park in our garage or even in the driveway for fear of that happening although they state ours is not supposed to be affected all these vehicle issues are telling me otherwise. Engine is now dead. This is unacceptable. Windows cannot be rolled down after multiple fixes that I paid for. Hyundai's poor production, manufacturing and quality control is unacceptable, please hold them responsible. Too much money has been spent on issues with no real results.

Oil consumption is very high and leads to no oil in car in a normal oil change timeframe then a failed engine comes No lights on to indicate oil is low Dealership denies oil is low

Transmission is defective. Car wanted to override my foot braking at lights & stop signs. The potential for the car to force me into traffic or a vehicle or wall in front of me made for a hazardous situation. Coconut Creek Hyundai Service Department (via [XXX]) stated the transmission had an internal failure & must be replaced. I do not know if the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others have inspected the transmission -- I am only aware that Coconut Creek Hyundai Service Department has inspected it. There were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. It first appeared in early November 2022. I tried to make an appointment & could not so I took it to the dealership on November 8, 2022. I bought this car from Coconut Creel Hyundai as Certified Used on September 6, 2019. Coconut Creek Hyundai in Coconut Creek, FL 33073 has had my car since Nov. 8, 2022. They replaced the defective transmission with another defective transmission the 1st week of December. I have had to pay out of my pocket for a rental car. Today is December 14, 2022. The least Hyundai can do is provide a car for me. The dealership has not done so. Hyundai USA (Case #: [XXX]) has not. My warranty only covers 10 days at $35.00 per day. A rental that I can use cost $40/day. I waited until December 1, 2022 to rent hoping my car would be fixed within a reasonable amount of time. My 10 days & my patience with this corporate pass the buck attitude has ended. I have no idea if the dealership got another new transmission or if they have installed it. This dealership has major communication issues. HyundaiUSA has lost a 3-time Hyundai owner. I just hung up with supervisor [XXX] from HyundaiUSA & she cannot authorize payment for a rental car nor speak to my case manager ([XXX]) about rental car payment/reimbursement. I have been without my car since Nov. 8, 2022. I stopped using my car Nov. 3, 2022 because it was too dangerous to do so.
