Car is shutting off when stopped. When it shuts off, the engine light comes on, the battery lights, the EPS, the master warning light, the FCA system light, and the EPB. When the engine shuts off, I still have power to my car and the radio still playing but nothing to my engine. I brought my car to 2 different mechanic and brought it to the dealership today and they are saying there’s nothing wrong with my car. My car have been shutting off all this month and that’s not normal,

  • 12/16/2025· STEERING

Steering becomes stuck in a curve and doesn't return to center. This creates a very dangerous condition when the steering "unsticks" and causes the car to veer from side to side. Condition is caused by a failure inside the electric power steering rack.

  • 11/09/2022· STEERING,POWER TRAIN

About 5-6 months ago, when turning left or right, the steering wheel started essentially locking in that position, and I have to yank it back to center. It will not self-center. The dealer was not able to fix it, and it's a very dangerous car to drive now. I will not let any other members of my family drive it. Also, I've had a severe drivetrain vibration for about a year, and over $7,000 was spent on a new driveshaft and transfer case. It is now worse than it was and the dealer doesn't know what to do. Even with only 34,000 miles on the car, it is out of warranty, and Hyundai doesn't seem to care. I have installed brand new tires hoping that it might help both situations, but it didn't. I'm just at my wit's end now. I guess I will just have to park the car. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • 11/03/2017· STEERING

AFTER MY TRIP, WHEN I DROVE THE CAR THE HANDLE OF THE WHEEL DID NOT MOVE. DON'T ROTATE A STEERING WHEEL CAUSED BY AN OUTSIDE INFLUENCE. HYUNDAI SAYS THAT AN OUTSIDE INFLUENCE IS A DAMAGE CAUSED BY RODENTS. IF I DRIVE THE CAR ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE STEERING WHEEL DOES NOT WORK. THE PROBLEM MAKES THE BIG ACCIDENT. I THINK IT'S A SERIOUS PROBLEM OF THE STEERING WHEEL WHICH SHOULD USE THING THAT IS A STRONG MATERIALS AND DESIGN AGAINST EXTERNAL INFLUENCES. IT IS NECESSARY TO INVESTIGATE WHETHER THE STRENGTH OF STEERING WHEEL PARTS IS PROPER. I KNOW THAT THE COMPANY HAS RECALLED SIMILAR PROBLEMS IN OTHER MODELS.

  • 10/28/2020· EXTERIOR LIGHTING

WHILE DRIVING DURING THE DAY OR NIGHT, THE HEADLIGHTS SWITCH ON AND OFF. THIS OCCURS WHEN THE LIGHTS ARE IN THE AUTO MODE. THE DASH SHOWS THE LIGHTS GO FROM AUTO TO DRLS TO OFF THEN BACK ON. THIS HAPPENS RANDOMLY AND IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT. THE DEALERSHIP REFUSES TO FIX THE ISSUE BECAUSE THEY 'SAY' THEY CANNOT REPLICATE. THERE NEEDS TO BE AN INVESTIGATION BEFORE SOMETHING TRAGIC HAPPENS AND NOT AFTER SOMETHING TRAGIC HAPPENS. I HAVE A VIDEO OF THIS OCCURRING BUT CANNOT UPLOAD IT TO THE SITE.

  • 10/25/2020· POWER TRAIN

I WAS IN A TURN LANE WITH THE CAR RUNNING IN PARK. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, THE CAR WOULD NOT SHIFT TO DRIVE. I WAS BLOCKING TRAFFIC. I TURNED ON MY HAZARD LIGHTS. I THEN TURNED THE ENGINE OFF/ON. THE CAR THEN SHIFTED TO DRIVE WITH A HARSH JERK!. I WAS ABLE TO GET TO MY DESTINATION. WHEN LEAVING, MY CAR AGAIN WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO DRIVE AND I NOTICED THAT THE "CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I TRIED STOPPING AND STARTING A FEW TIMES. THE CAR WOULD NOT SHIFT TO DRIVE. IT WOULD ONLY GO IN PARK, NEUTRAL AND REVERSE. I HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO MY HOUSE. I WILL HAVE THE DEALERSHIP CHECK IT ON MONDAY.

  • 10/17/2025· ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINEFire

Dear NHTSA, I am filing this complaint to formally report a serious vehicle safety hazard and to express concern over how Hyundai/Genesis has handled it. My 2016 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 AWD experienced a n engine compartment fire originating from the starter motor, which subsequently melted the engine wiring harness and surrounding components. This fire could have easily caused serious injury or death, as it occurred shortly after starting the vehicle. Fortunately, I was able t o shut the vehicle off and get t o safety before the flames spreadThe dealership and Genesis Customer Care opened a case (Case #41642221) but later informed me that this was "not related" to the existing Hyundai/Genesis recall involving the same starter and wiring harness fire risk. Their explanation was that my incident was merely a "coincidence" - despite the identical cause and symptoms described in the recall documentation. This reasoning is unacceptable, irresponsible, and ignores the fundamental issue: the fire originated from the starter, the same component already known t o have a fire-related defect. Dismissing a near-identical safety incident as unrelated poses a severe public safety concern and suggests Hyundai/Genesis may be avoiding accountability for additional affected vehicles outside the recall's VIN range. I believe this defect and the manufacturer's response warrant a n urgent NHTSA investigation into the scope of the existing recall and whether it should be expanded. This issue is not only mechanical but life-threatening, as an engine fire caused by electrical failure could easily occur while driving or in an occupied area. Please investigate this issue and ensure Hyundai/Genesis takes full responsibility for this defect before someone i s seriously injured or killed

Purchased this car from a Hyundai dealer and immediately after multiple times the steering has stuck in place while making a left hand turn, not allowing the car to come out of the turn. Also does it slightly while driving on highway straight, but not as forcefully as when in a turn. Very dangerous and Hyundai nor the Hyundai dealer We purchased it from will even take a call from me over it. No check engine lights or warnings. Yes, it was very dangerous for us in the car as well as the other cars on the road. Could have been a very serious accident. I wish Hyundai would take it seriously. The dealer I purchased it from said they had thoroughly checked it out but they wont take any calls from me since purchase. Yes the car is available for inspection upon request.

When headlights are in auto mode, use of the turn signal can result in the headlights flickering or shutting off completely. This is not the result of hitting the light mode switch but rather an electrical short occurring in the stalk. The problem is particularly dangerous at night when signaling for an upcoming turn and loss of all vehicle lighting occurs. The problem has not been reproduced by a dealer. The component has not been inspected by officials. Initial occurrence was winter of 2022 with increasing frequency since then.

This has happened a few times the first time i was driving and the headlights flicked on and off on the dash it showed it switched from auto to off by its self it has done that a few times. The time that i was driving on the highway and the lights when out during the night i was driving 65mph over a pass with no warning I had to turn them on because they did not come back on by them self. I contacted the hyundai dealership they told me there was a tsb for it but the problem would have to happen while they are driving it so they could fix it under warranty. This is a huge safety risk because they note "Certain vehicles may exhibit intermittent headlight flickering while driving with the light switch on AUTO light mode" in there TSB and it says " intermittent" witch means "not happening regularly or continuously" so it doesn't happen they wont cover it under warranty. And it happens at random times witch causes a safety risk because if the light out it can cause a fatal accident. i contacted hyundai about this my self and they told me the same thing that the dealer has to have it happen to them or its not covered. please look into this it needs to be recalled tsb 20-BE-009H-1

PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY / DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY. RESULT: DEALER REPLACED UNDER FACTORY WARRANTY IN 2018 AND NOISE NO LONGER EXISTS. PREVIOUSLY, BETWEEN 15 MPH AND 20 MPH AT CRUISE SPEED AND NO ACCELERATION, A LOUD BUFFETING/RECOILING/CUFFING NOISE IS AUDIBLE IN THE CABIN. SOUNDS AS THOUGH IT ORIGINATES UNDER THE FLOOR BOARDS. HEARD THIS FROM THE MOMENT I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE NEW WITH 15 MILES ON THE ODOMETER UNTIL I BROUGHT IT IN TO THE DEALER TWO YEARS LATER, WHICH, AS WRITTEN ABOVE, THEY DIAGNOSED THE SOURCE TO THE PROPELLER SHAFT / DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY.

ABOUT A MONTH BEFORE THE INCIDENT, THE VEHICLE WAS FULLY IMSPECTED IN OFFICIAL DEALERSHIP, NO ISSUES REPORTED. A FEW DAYS BEFORE THE INCIDENT, THE WIPERS STARTED WORKING WITH THE ENGINE OFF; I SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT FOR AN INSPECTION. THE VEHICLE WAS LEASED WITH ABOUT 10 MONTHS LEFT ON THE LEASE. ON APRIL 13, 2018 AFTER DRIVING FOR 1,5-2 HOURS, I PARKED IT AND WENT TO THE OFFICE FOR 10-15 MINUTES; ON MY WAY BACK TO THE VEHICLE I HEARD THE FIRE TRUCKS COMING; AS I WAS APPROACHING MY VEHICLE I REALIZED THAT MY VEHICLE WAS ON FIRE. THE INSPECTOR REPORTED THE ENGINE EXPLOSION DUE TO MANUFACTURERS PROBLEM. SO BASICALLY HAPPY TO BE ALIVE AS NOBODY KNOWS WHAT WOULD HAD HAPPENED WITH ME AND MY KIDS IN THE VEHICLE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY; SO AFTER MORE THAN 3,5 MONTHS HYUNDAI FINNCIAL STILL DID NOT CLOSE THE CASE ALTHOUGH THEY STATED THAT THEY ARE IN THE PROCESS OF PAYING OFF THE VEHICLE. NOBODY EVER SAID SORRY; I CALL TO HYUNDAI / HYUNDAI FINANCIAL EVERY DAY AND ALL THEY DO IS THEY TRANFER ME FROM ONE DEPARTMENT TO ANOTHER; THE CASE MANAGER ASSIGNED TO OUR CASE NEVER PICKS THE PHONE, NEVER CALLS BACK, TO REACH HIM I NEED TO CALL TO THE SUPERVISOR AND COMPLAIN AND ONLY THAN I RECEIVE A CALL FROM HIM. 2 MONTHS AGO HE STATED HE WOULD CLOSE THE CASE THE COMING MONDAY. NO ACTIONS SINCE THEN SO FAR.

The steering rack malfunctions or fails. When driving at high speeds, the steering wheel gets stuck after being turned. It does not return to center and has to be yanked or forced back to center. There are hundreds of people that have mentioned this online about this Genesis model. This is a major safety issue, as jerking the wheel back to center can cause an accident, and if the wheel gets really stuck, it could cause a major accident. The issue has been confirmed by numerous reports and columns online. For my specific car, an independent service center confirmed the issue after test-driving the car. It has not been inspected by the manufacturer. There are no dash warnings, lights, or codes that indicate the issue. Hyundai should be paying to fix this safety issue. People are driving these cars who can't afford to get it fixed, which is putting others in danger as well.

I have been told to not park my car in the garage or near any structure. A fire could happen any time, while driving, or parked in the garage or outside the garage. I've spoken to a Genesis representative who told me they could not give me a loaner until they have a fix. My wife is [XXX] and handicapped. I'm [XXX] and we're very concerned about our safety. We live in a condo community that has no room to park on the street, so I'm parking behind my garage. I believe all these things are special circumstances and warrant special dispensation. It sure would take some stress out of lives if we could get a loaner. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

CHANGED LANES AT 30 TO 40 MPH IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA, REMOVED FOOT FROM GAS PEDAL, HEARD ENGINE REVVING HIGH THEN WITHIN ONE TO TWO SECONDS I FELT AND HEARD A HARD BANG AND HEAVY PUSH. THOUGHT SOMEONE HIT ME, BUT NO ONE DID. CAR STARTLED ME AND MY WIFE. IT FELT LIKE THE ENGINE DISCONNECTED FROM THE TRANSMISSION, THEN REENGAGED, WHICH GAVE THE SUDDEN OUTCOME. THIS HAS BEEN THREE WEEKS AND NO FURTHER INCIDENT. I COULD ONLY IMAGINE IF THIS HAPPENED ON A HIGH WAY OR AT A CRITICAL POINT OF DRIVING. I THINK IT CAN BE A SAFETY CONCERN.

WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH ON A HIGHWAY AT NIGHT ALL THE INTERIOR LIGHTING, DASH, AND HEADLIGHTS WENT COMPLETELY OUT FOR THREE SECONDS THEN CAME BACK ON. WE SLOWED DOWN BUT THIS HAPPENED THREE TIMES BEFORE WE REACHED OUR DESTINATION. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHO WAS ABLE TO RECREATE THE PROBLEM AND REPAIR THE CAR.

  • 05/31/2017· ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

BATTERY DISCHARGE ERROR COMES ON AND STAYS ON FOR FIVE SECONDS THEN GOES OFF. WAIT ABOUT 40 SECONDS AND THIS REPEATS OVER AND OVER. DRIVING 8 MILES TO WORK THIS CAME ON 35 OR MORE TIMES. I WAS ABLE TO CAPTURE SEVERAL VIDEOS AND SHOWED THE SERVICE MANAGER. THEY COULD NOT GET THIS TO REPEAT WHILE IN THEIR POSSESSION AND IT STILL RANDOMLY HAPPENS AND HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED.

  • 05/31/2017· ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW WOULD ONLY GO DOWN OR UP ABOUT 1 INCH AT A TIME NO MATTER IF YOU PRESS AND HOLD THE BUTTON UP OR DOWN, OR PRESS AND RELEASE. DEALER COULD NOT GET THIS TO REPEAT AND IT IS STILL NOT REPAIRED.

  • 05/31/2017· ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VISIBILITY/WIPER

VEHICLE ONLY HAD ABOUT 2000 MILES WHEN IT FIRST DID THIS. DASH DISPLAY MALFUNCTION. WHEN BACKING UP DISPLAY IS BLACKED OUT. YOU CAN'T SEE ANY VIDEO FROM BACK UP CAMERA. ALSO DISPLAY GOES OUT WHILE DRIVING. GAVE VIDEO EVIDENCE TO DEALER SO THEY KNOW I'M NOT CRAZY. SOMETIMES YOU TURN CAR OFF AND LOCK THE CAR AND THE DISPLAY IS STILL PLAYING. DEALER COULD GET THIS ISSUE TO RECREATE WHILE IN THERE POSSESSION FOR FOUR TRIES LATER IS STILL DOES NOT WORK. THIS IS EVEN AFTER A "FINAL" REPAIR WAS OFFERED BY THE DEALER WHICH CONSISTED OF A TOTAL DASH REPLACEMENT THE MANAGER SAID COST HYUNDAI OVER $5000.

Use of the turn signal intermittently causes the headlights to turn off at night while in auto headlights mode switching to headlights on mode turns the lights back on.

I was driving at night on highway and tried to switch lanes. After I gave left signal and start changing lanes headlights turned off for several seconds. I almost panic and pushed the brake pedal. It was the Multifunction Switch which was going from Auto mode to Off.
