⚠ Do not drive this vehicle — urgent recall
NHTSA has flagged a recall on this vehicle as severe. Contact a dealer immediately; recall repairs are free.
- SUSPENSION:FRONT:CONTROL ARMCampaign 16V256000 · 28/04/2016Do not drive
General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2016-2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and 2016 Cadillac Escalade, Cadillac Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Suburban, Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Sierra, GMC Yukon and GMC Yukon XL vehicles. The front upper control arms may have inadequate welds near the control arm bushing.
Risk: Inadequate welds may allow the control arm to separate from the bushing, compromising steering and increasing the risk of a crash.
Fix: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the left and right front upper control arms and realign the vehicle, free of charge. The recall began on May 18, 2016. Until the repairs have been made, owners are advised not to drive their vehicles. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 42190.
- AIR BAGS:FRONTALCampaign 17V437000 · 10/07/2017
General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2014-2016 Buick Lacrosse and Chevrolet Spark EV, Caprice PPV and SS vehicles, 2014-2017 Buick Encore and Chevrolet Corvette, Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles, 2015-2016 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Tahoe, Trax, Suburban and Silverado 2500 and 3500 and GMC Yukon and Yukon XL vehicles, and 2015-2017 GMC Sierra HD 2500 and 3500 vehicles. While being previously remedied for recall 16V-651, the affected vehicles may not have received the complete software update necessary to remedy the recall condition. Without the update, certain driving conditions may cause the air bag sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) software to activate a diagnostic test. During this test, deployment of the frontal air bags and the seat belt pretensioners would not occur in the event of a crash.
Risk: A failure of the front air bags or seat belt pretensioners to deploy in the event of a crash necessitating deployment increases the risk of injury to the driver and front passenger.
Fix: GM will notify owners, and dealers will reflash the SDM software. Vehicles that have had a previous air bag deployment will have the SDM replaced. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on August 4, 2017. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300, Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 17287.

THE VEHICLE HAS EXPERIENCED AT SLOW SPEED OR BACKING A SOLID/STUCK BRAKE PEDAL THAT WOULDN'T MOVE. THE PEDAL WAS BASICALLY STUCK, NOT MOVING AT ALL. THIS OCCURRED COMING TO A STOP AT LIKE AN INTERSECTION OR AS STATED BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT. IT FELT AS IF THE TRUCK WOULDN'T STOP AND NO MATTER HOW HARD THE PEDAL WAS PUSHED IT WOULDN'T MOVE FOR A FEW SECONDS.
- 12/29/2025· ENGINE
The engine is the component that failed and is available for inspection. The issue has been confirmed by an independent service center, and the repair quote is attached. There were no prior warning signs before the failure; the vehicle suddenly began making a knocking noise and experienced a loss of power.

Driving a company vehicle [XXX], heavy smoke started coming from under the drivers side dash. Unhooked battery, the smoke stopped. I had vehicle towed to a local garage. They advised the engine wiring harness and other wiring had caught on fire. They couldn't repair it. On [XXX]. I had the vehicle towed to the local GMC dealer in Bedford, VA. At first they said they could fix it, then around 7/3/24 they said the couldn't fix it, charging several hundreds of dollars. On July 5/2024 I had the vehicle towed to a GMC dealership in Lynchburg, VA who I had check with and said they could fix it. The first part of September 2024, this dealership advised me the couldn't fix the vehicle. I had the vehicle tow to our companies office in Lynchburg. The dealerships are saying they can't get the needed wiring harnesses. Our insurance company had sent an adjuster to the GMC in Bedford, VA. No warning lamps came on before the smoke. WHILE DRIVING MY CHILDREN TO PRACTICE MY VEHICLE JERKED US FORWARD IN A VIOLENT MOTION AS IF ANOTHER CAR HIT US AND THERE WAS NO ONE ON THE ROAD. AFTERWARDS THE CAR SLOWED TO ABOUT 5-20MILES AN HOUR AND WOULD NOT DRIVE ANY FASTER. I STOPPED AT THE NEAREST INTERSECTION AND THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE. I TURNED OFF THE IGNITION AND TURNED ON AGAIN AND WAS ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE ROAD TO SAFETY. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE AND I HAVE ALREADY BEEN TO THE MECHANIC TO HAVE THE TORQUE CONVERTER REPLACED. I HAVE COMPLAINED SEVERAL TIMES TO NO AVAIL ABOUT THIS ISSUE.

Without warning my 2016 Yukon Denali jerked so forcefully into drive it felt like we were hit from behind. It went into gear and sped into intersection and stalled. We were almost hit. This is a huge problem with2016 GMC's and they are aware of it. It is the 8 speed transmissions that are causing this. They refuse to help get it fixed. I think they should be forced to! I will be out thousands if I can even find a shop that can get that transmission., They are back ordered because so many failures.

LEFT TAILLIGHT WENT OUT AND I WAS UNDER THE WARRANTY AND THE DEALER REPLACED IT BUT HAD THE RIGHT TAILLIGHT GO OUT AT 40,000 MILES. I HAVE REFERRED 4 FRIENDS THAT PURCHASED THE SAME VEHICLE AS US AND HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUES. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH GMC AND THEY NEED TO RECALL THIS.
- 12/03/2019· EXTERIOR LIGHTING
I PURCHASED MY 2016 YUKON XL DENALI USED WITH 40K MILES. I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE LESS THEN A WEEK AND HAVE HAD SEVERAL PEOPLE TELL ME THAT I HAVE A BRAKE LIGHT OUT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE, BUT EVERY TIME I STOP AND HAVE IT LOOKED AT ITS WORKING JUST FINE. THE COST TO REPLACE IT IS APPROXIMATELY $700 FOR EACH ASSEMBLY. AFTER SOME RESEARCH I HAVE FOUND THAT THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVING THIS ISSUE AND THAT GMC IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE BUT WON'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I'M AFRAID THAT I MIGHT BE REAR ENDED BECAUSE THE LIGHTS DECIDE NOT TO WORK AT THAT MOMENT.

FINALLY, ON 18 NOVEMBER, 2019 THE DEALERSHIP CALLED AND SAID THEY HAD THE PART AND INSTALLED IT ON 19 NOVEMBER, 2019, VEHICLE MILAGE NOW 59,061. DEALER CHARGED $418.00. FOR THE LIGHT AND WORK SHOWING A TOTAL COST OF $709.86 AND MY REPAIR COST "COPAY" BEING $418.00 WITH THE GMC WARRANTY SUPPOSEDLY PICKING UP THE DIFFERENCE. TWO MORE ATTEMPTS TO CONTACT "[XXX]", 22 NOV. @ 12:30 P.M., AND 26 NOV. @ 1425 GOT NO RESPONSE. FINALLY CONTACTED HER ON 02 DEC. AND SHE WAS UNAWARE THE PART HAD SHIPPED BUT FOUND THE RECORD AND SAID THAT THE FROM $709.86 TO $418.00 WAS THE ONLY THING THEY COULD DO AND THAT I HAD NO RECOURSE. SHE DID OFFER TO HAVE HER SUPERVISOR CALL ME AND SAID SHE WOULD RECORD MY DISLIKE OF THE SETTLEMENT. SHE COULD NOT OR WOULD NOT ATTEMPT TO EXPLAIN WHY THERE WAS SUCH A HUGE DIFFERENCE IN THE PRICE BETWEEN THE LIGHTS OR THE AMOUNT THAT THE GMC WARRANTY WOULD COVER. LOOKING ONLINE, I NOTE THAT HAVE BEEN MANY THOUSAND OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS FROM THE 2015 THROUGH THE CURRENT 2019 GMC DENALI AND YUKON MODEL VEHICLES. SHOULD GMC NOT PUT OUT A SAFETY RECALL FOR THESE FAILED BRAKE LIGHTS? THERE IS NO INDICATION IN THE DRIVER'S COMPARTMENT THAT THEY ARE OUT. IF NOT POSSIBLE, ARE THEY COVERED UNDER A "LEMON LAW" OR IS THIS JUST ANOTHER CASE OF GMC HAS GOT YOU? - 11/19/2022· POWER TRAIN
I currently have 109024 miles on my yukon. At the time the issue first occurred, it had 108998 miles. Up til that moment, it was running perfectly. About 5 miles into my drive on 11/13/2022 it started to shutter at the top of 2nd gear, then a hard shift into 3rd. The shutter repeated at the top of 3rd, before a hard shift into 4th gear. I turned around & returned home. Checked the fluids, everything was fine. Let it sit, had to drive it to work (6 miles or so) on 11/14/22 & it shuttered at the top of 2nd & 3rd gear again. Took it to Wallingford Buick GMC (in CT) Tuesday 11/15/22. Upon inspection, it was confirmed the transmission failed. $6538.31 for a new, replacement transmission. It's still at the shop, waiting for the new transmission to be delivered. I've maintained my vehicle, have regular oil changes & inspections of the powertrain components. This came totally out of the blue. No warnings, or any indication of pending doom.

THE TAILIGHT/BRAKE LIGHT KEEP GOING BAD. IT WORKS HALF THE TIME. I WILL CHECK IT AND IT'S WORKING THEN I HIT A BUMP AND PEOPLE TELL ME IT'S NOT WORKING. I HIT ANOTHER BUMP I LOOK AND IT WORKING. AFTER REPLACING IT ONCE ALREADY HAS THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM AND THEY WANT ANOTHER $1000 TO FIX IT BUT THE DEALER TOLD ME GMC NOW HAS A BETTER REPLACEMENT FOR IT. IF THEY HAVE A BETTER BUILT OPTION THEN GMC SHOULD BE MADE TO CHANGE LIGHTS ON ALL OF THEM BEFORE SOME ONE GETS KILLED.
- 11/15/2024· ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES
The car has all of a sudden had issues with the gas and breaking. When I press the gas, it stalls then rapidly accelerates. It has to be the transmission. Also, is making a noise and will barely drive when pressing on the gas. It does not accelerate!! Could have easily gotten into a car accident! What is going on??
- 11/15/2023· ENGINE
My 2016 GMC Yukon Denali was taken in for a tune up. When I received the vehicle back, I was told that there was possibly a microscopic pin hole in my engine because fluid (engine coolant) was under one of the injectors. I was told that I may need to trade in or get another engine. I refused both. The mileage at the time was probably 120,000. I purchased this vehicle brand new and do not see how an engine is needed so quickly. I was barely finished paying for it. I was told by a co-worker that she had to trade hers in because it was doing the same thing. She had also investigated and had learned that many of these vehicles have the same issues around 114,000 miles and beyond. I think these issues need to be addressed.
- 11/14/2025· STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
While driving vehicle the vehicle appears to shut off as if someone is turning off the ignition. The steering control becomes stiff, power is lost and electronics flash and turn off and on. This has happened on multiple occasions and is intermittent during acceleration. The accessible grounds have been checked, battery checked and replaced, and alternator checked and verified to be charging appropriately. Several codes are present and have been cleared to return indicating low voltage issues with multiple systems.
