NHTSA has flagged a recall on this vehicle as severe. Contact a dealer immediately; recall repairs are free.
- SUSPENSION:FRONT:CONTROL ARMCampaign 16V256000 · 28/04/2016Do not drive
General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2016-2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and 2016 Cadillac Escalade, Cadillac Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Suburban, Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Sierra, GMC Yukon and GMC Yukon XL vehicles. The front upper control arms may have inadequate welds near the control arm bushing.
Risk: Inadequate welds may allow the control arm to separate from the bushing, compromising steering and increasing the risk of a crash.
Fix: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the left and right front upper control arms and realign the vehicle, free of charge. The recall began on May 18, 2016. Until the repairs have been made, owners are advised not to drive their vehicles. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 42190.
- AIR BAGS:SIDE/WINDOW:CURTAIN:INFLATORCampaign 20V736000 · 25/11/2020
General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2015-2016 GMC Sierra 1500 and Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and 2015 GMC Sierra 2500 and 3500, and Chevrolet Silverado 2500 and 3500 trucks. The roof-rail air bag (RRAB) inflator end cap may detach from the inflator.
Risk: If the end cap separates from the inflator, the compressed gas will escape and the end cap can be propelled into the vehicle, increasing the risk of injury or a crash.
Fix: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the RRAB modules on the left and/or right side, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters were mailed on December 22, 2020. Owners may contact GMC customer service at 1-888-988-7267 or Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. Note: GM filed a new recall, number 21V-504 that supersedes this recall. All vehicles previously recalled under 20V-736 will now be repaired under the new recall number 21V-504. GM's numbers for this recall are N202309680, N202309681, and N202309682.
- SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK/TRACTION CONTROL/ELECTRONIC LIMITED SLIP:WHEEL SPEED SENSOR/TONE RINGCampaign 19V761000 · 24/10/2019
General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2015-2020 Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe, and GMC Yukon, and 2014-2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles equipped with a 5.3-liter engine, a 3.08-ratio rear axle and four-wheel drive. If a wheel-speed sensor fails, while the vehicle is traveling between 41 and 60 mph in four-wheel or automatic mode, the Electronic-Brake Control Module (EBCM) software may activate the driveline-protection system.
Risk: Unintended activation of the driveline-protection system will cause unintended braking on the wheel on the opposite side of the failed sensor, causing the vehicle to pull to one side unexpectedly, increasing the risk of a crash.
Fix: GM will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the EBCM, free of charge. The recall began December 11, 2019. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-630-2438 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N192261050.
- AIR BAGS:FRONTALCampaign 17V437000 · 10/07/2017
General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2014-2016 Buick Lacrosse and Chevrolet Spark EV, Caprice PPV and SS vehicles, 2014-2017 Buick Encore and Chevrolet Corvette, Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles, 2015-2016 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Tahoe, Trax, Suburban and Silverado 2500 and 3500 and GMC Yukon and Yukon XL vehicles, and 2015-2017 GMC Sierra HD 2500 and 3500 vehicles. While being previously remedied for recall 16V-651, the affected vehicles may not have received the complete software update necessary to remedy the recall condition. Without the update, certain driving conditions may cause the air bag sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) software to activate a diagnostic test. During this test, deployment of the frontal air bags and the seat belt pretensioners would not occur in the event of a crash.
Risk: A failure of the front air bags or seat belt pretensioners to deploy in the event of a crash necessitating deployment increases the risk of injury to the driver and front passenger.
Fix: GM will notify owners, and dealers will reflash the SDM software. Vehicles that have had a previous air bag deployment will have the SDM replaced. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on August 4, 2017. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300, Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 17287.

In the affected vehicles, certain driving conditions may cause the air bag sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) software to activate a diagnostic test.
- SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:POWER ASSIST:VACUUMCampaign 19V645000 · 06/09/2019
General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2015-2017 Cadillac Escalade, 2014-2018 Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, 2015-2018 Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Yukon vehicles. The amount of vacuum created by the vacuum pump may decrease over time.
Risk: As the vacuum level drops, the brake assist decreases, increasing braking effort, extending the distance required to stop the vehicle, thereby increasing the risk of a crash.
Fix: GM will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the Electronic Brake Control Module, free of charge. The recall began October 8, 2019. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-630-2438, Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N192268490.

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2015-2016 GMC Sierra 1500, 2500, 3500, and Chevrolet Silverado 1500, 2500, and 3500 trucks. The roof-rail air bag (RRAB) inflator end cap may detach from the inflator, or the inflator sidewall may rupture.
Risk: A separated inflator end cap or inflator rupture can allow compressed gas to escape, resulting in the end cap or other components being propelled into the vehicle, increasing the risk of injury or crash.
Fix: Dealers will replace the left and right side RRAB modules, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters informing owners of the safety risk were mailed on August 18, 2021. Owners will receive a second notice when the remedy is available. Phase I owner notification letters were mailed on May 5, 2022. PURCHASED THE 2016 DURAMAX DENALI WITH LESS THAN 39,000 MILES AFTER MY PREVIOUS GMC TRUCK TURNED OUT TO BE A SAFETY HAZARD AND A MONEY PIT. SALES REP HAD ME DRIVE THE VEHICLE AROUND THE BLOCK AND THE VEHICLE WAS WHAT I WANTED. AFTER DRIVING THE TRUCK AT HIGHWAY SPEED I STARTED NOTICING THE VEHICLE DRIFTING ALL OVER, I HAD TO TURN THE LANE DEPARTURE WARNING SYSTEM OFF BECAUSE YOU CANT KEEP IT IN THE LANE. GOING INTO A CONSTRUCTION ZONE I ALMOST WAS PUSHED INTO THE BARRIER BECAUSE OF THE DRAFT OFF OF A SEMI. WITH SPEED LIMITS UP TO 85 HERE IN TEXAS I CANT BELIEVE SOMEBODY HAS NOT BEEN KILLED YET. I AM TAKING IT TO GMC CAVENDER OF BUICK IN SAN ANTONIO WEDNESDAY. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS ISSUE.

ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS I HAVE HAD DIFFICULTY WITH THE BRAKING SYSTEM. THE BRAKING SYSTEM BECOMES UNRESPONSIVE AFTER PUMPING THE BRAKES A FEW TIMES. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS I'VE HAD THE BRAKE PEDDLE PUSHED TO THE FLOOR IN AN ATTEMPT TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THIS SEEMS TO HAPPEN MOSTLY AT SLOW SPEEDS, A GOOD EXAMPLE IS WHEN YOU ARE IN A TRAFFIC JAM AND ARE PRIMARILY USING THE BRAKES TO EDGE FORWARD AND STOP.

APPARENTLY, THE 8 SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION HAS ISSUES WITH WIRING HARNESS AND HARD SHIFTING WHICH THE MANUFACTURER HAS 18 SERVICE BULLETINS OUT ON YET STILL WILL NOT RECALL AND FIX PROBLEMS. ALSO THE BRAKE SYSTEM IS FAULTY AND UNSAFE IT LOSES PRESSURE AND EVEN BRAKING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. AFTER TAKING IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY CAN NOT FIGURE OUT WHY AND SAY IT IS VARIOUS PARTS AND SHOULD BE RECALLED BUT IT IS NOT AS OF YET. GM KNOWS OF THESE ISSUES AND THE 1000S OF DOLLARS CUSTOMERS HAVE TO PAY FOR THESE REPAIRS. THIS IS WRONG AND NEEDS TO BE RECTIFIED.

I purchased a set of Firestone Destination A/T2 tires from Firestone in Southaven, MS. I had the tires for less than 16 months. I took the tires in for inspection & was told the treat belts had separated from the tires. The tires are a hazard. the tires are 275/55R20. Driving on the interstate, I had to pull over as it felt as though the truck would overturn/rollover. They must be recalled. I contacted Firestone, they were of little to no assistance. Unable to obtain a refund or credit. I googled info on firestone tires & a plethora of information exhibited the same thing, problems with tread separation.

My vehicle a 2016 GMC Sierra 1500 upon lower idle speeds loses vacuum pressure. As the vacuum level drops the brake assist decreases, increasing the braking effort, extending the distance required to stop the vehicle, which increases the risk of a crash. I have had a warning light come on advising to service the brake assist system. I took my truck to a local mechanic who confirmed the codes and learned that there had been a GM recall associated with this failure at one time, with GM recall # N192268490. There is also NHTSA recall bulletin 19V645000 regarding this matter as well. Upon contacting some local GM dealers in the area, I was informed that my VIN was not listed as one of the vehicles affected by this recall, so a recall notice was never sent regarding my vehicle. I was also told that I just fell outside their 10-year window regarding this matter and that they would not repair this safety issue under warranty. I called the GM customer service who could not explain why the VIN associated to my truck was not listed and they said I should contact NHTSA and start a claim for potential reimbursement in the future after repairs are made. I feel that this is an unnecessary step as I believe GM should honor their product and repair an obvious safety issue with the truck, especially since they knew this was an issue in thousands of their trucks where it was not my fault my vehicles VIN was not included as a potential recall issue, but I am following their suggestion

I noticed a "ticking" noise a few years ago, it wasn't that bad and while taking my truck to the dealer for an oil change I ask about it and the representative told me that in this models that was normal. Since it wasn't that bad and the truck didn't show any problems at that time, I just decide to let it be. This weekend I took my family out of state for a fun trip, and while going in the highway around 55-65 miles per hour, the truck suddenly lose power, it felt like it the truck "sits" the cars behind me had to dodge me and I lost control of the truck and had to steer to the right getting out of the highway and almost go into a ditch, thankfully nothing scaleted to a big and disastrous accident. The engine light started to flash. And suddenly stopped, I turn off the truck checked back for my family and after a few minutes, I started the truck again, the truck started right away and but I noticed the "ticking" got a little louder, talking to my neighbor about this he told me he had the same issue and hes motor went bad and they said it was a bad AFM system causing this, I started searching on line for it and see there been the same issues with the AFM with other drivers, and seen that the have the same issues Im confident that it is an AFM problem. Truck is been running and is my daily work car and I notice is loosing power, I contacted the dealer but haven't had any answer yet. I cant take it to a mechanic shop because they would charge me in between 2,500 to 5k to fixed, money that I dont have, while in the call with one shop he told me about this place to put a claim and notify about how dangerous this can be if in a highway.

BRAKE FAILURE ISSUE AT LOW SPEED. THIS HAPPENED IN TWO SEPARATE OCCURRENCES IN PARKING LOTS. THE BRAKE PEDAL BECAME VERY STILL AND REQUIRED GRABBING THE STEERING WHEEL AND USING IT TO PULL MYSELF DOWN HARDER ON THE BRAKE PEDAL TO GET THE VEHICLE TO STOP. THIS RESULTED IN GREATLY INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE. FORTUNATELY NO VEHICLES OR PEOPLE WERE IN MY PATH DURING THESE OCCURRENCES. GM HAS SINCE REPAIRED MY VEHICLE. I HAVE SINCE RECEIVED A NOTICE THAT THEY ARE REPAIRING THIS ISSUE ONLY AFTER THE OWNER HAS A BRAKE FAILURE PROBLEM. THIS IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE AND IS UNACCEPTABLE. OWNERS NEED A SOLUTION AND DO NOT NEED TO WORRY THAT THIS ISSUE WILL ARISE AGAIN. IF I HIT A PERSON OR A VEHICLE, WILL GM PAY FOR MEDICAL BILLS, VEHICLE REPAIRS, LEGAL FEES? THIS TRUCK AS WELL AS MY LAST 2009 CHEVROLET SILVERADO HAD ISSUES WITH THE DRIVE TRAIN THAT GM CLASSIFIED AS NORMAL. THESE TRUCKS SHOULD NOT HAVE DRIVE SHAFT CLUNK WHEN STOPPING AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT. THESE VEHICLES HAVE MAJOR MECHANICAL CONCERNS AND THEIR QUALITY IS TRASH!

AT 44,972 MILES I BEGAN TO EXPERIENCE LOSS OF BRAKING AT SLOW SPEEDS (10-15 MPH) ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE BRAKE PEDAL LOST ITS SPONGY FEEL AND FELT HARD AND DEAD. NO MATTER HOW MUCH PRESSURE I APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL, MY TRUCK CONTINUED TO ROLL FORWARD. IT WAS A SCARY FEELING TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE ESPECIALLY BECAUSE I HAD MY 10 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER IN MY TRUCK THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED. I HAD TO DEPRESS MY EMERGENCY BRAKE TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP. I PULLED THE TRUCK OVER AND TURNED OFF AND ON THE IGNITION AND THE BRAKE PEDAL REGAINED ITS SPONGY, NORMAL PRESSURE AND FEEL. THE BRAKES FELT NORMAL FOR ABOUT A WEEK OR SO AND I FELT MAYBE IT WAS AN ISOLATED INCIDENT UNTIL THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED WHEN I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK IN CITY STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 5-10 MPH TRYING TO COME TO A STOP BEHIND THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME WHEN THE TRUCK CONTINUED TO ROLL FORWARD. I BARELY HAD ENOUGH TIME TO DEPRESS THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP AND CAME VERY CLOSE TO HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN AT VERY LOW SPEED, BUT NONETHELESS A COLLISION. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THE PROBLEM CHECKED OUT AND ENDED UP HAVING TO REPLACE THE VACUUM PUMP ASSEMBLY FOR $656.50, PARTS AND LABOR. I DEFINITELY FEEL THIS IS A VALID SAFETY ISSUE THAT DESERVES INVESTIGATING AND DOING EITHER A SAFETY NOTICE TO VEHICLE OWNERS THAT COULD BE EFFECTED OR A RECALL. HAD I KNOWN ABOUT THE POTENTIAL ISSUE I WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER ABLE TO DEAL WITH IT. IT REALLY SHOOK ME UP THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED. I DIDN'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING THE TRUCK EVEN 10 FEET AFTERWARDS.

ON NOVEMBER 4 WHILE DRIVING, I RECEIVED A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT THAT SAID TO SERVICE THE EXHAUST SYSTEM AND A COUNTDOWN STARTED, REDUCING THE SPEED OF THE VEHICLE BY 10 MPH AFTER EVERY 50-75 MILES . THE VEHICLE HAD ABOUT 38,700 MILES AT THE TIME. THE ERROR MESSAGE THAT THE DEALERSHIP RECEIVED WAS P205B REDUCTANT TANK TEMPERATURE SENSOR PERFORMANCE. THEY REPLACED THE EMISSION REDUCTION TANK RESERVOIR AND COMPLETED A REGENERATION TEST. ON DECEMBER 11 I GOT THE SAME MESSAGE AND THEY RECEIVED A REDUCTANT HEATER CONTROL CIRCUIT LOW ERROR AND THEY REPLACED GLOW PLUG CONTROL MODULE. ON JANUARY 2 I GOT THE SAME MESSAGE AND THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE EMISSION REDUCTION FLUID SUPPLY PUMP MODULE. ON JANUARY 17 I GOT THE SAME ERROR AND THEY REPLACED REPLACED THE REDUCTION FLUID SUPPLY PUMP MODULE AGAIN. I GOT THE SAME SERVICE EXHAUST SYSTEM ERROR AND TOOK THE TRUCK BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP ON FEBRUARY 10. IT IS NOW FEBRUARY 27 AND THEY HAVE NOT IDENTIFIED THE PROBLEM. THERE APPEARS TO BE AN ISSUE WITH EITHER THE EMISSIONS SYSTEM OR THE COMPUTER THAT RUNS THE SYSTEM, BUT NO ONE CAN SAY FOR SURE.
- 02/24/2019· SERVICE BRAKES
AT 38,200 MILES, THE TRUCK EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF BREAK PRESSURE WHILE IN A PARKING GARAGE TRAVELING AT LOW SPEED CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO NARROWLY MISS HITTING A CONCRETE UPRIGHT. AFTER REALIZING THERE WAS A BREAK ISSUE, VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE CAREFULLY MOVED FROM THE PARKING GARAGE BY COASTING ON THE BREAK. AFTER RESTARTING THE VEHICLE, THE FIRST DEPRESS OF THE BREAK SEEMED TO GIVE FULL PRESSURE, BUT EACH SUBSEQUENT DEPRESS GAVE LESS AND LESS PRESSURE. VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO NEAREST DEALERSHIP AND IS CURRENTLY AWAITING DIAGNOSTIC. PROBLEM APPEARS TO BE PART OF ONGOING INVESTIGATION INTO BRAKE VACUUM PUMP FAILURE (NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: PE18012).

- 02/03/2026· AIR BAGSCrash
The contact owned a 2016 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 MPH, the vehicle crashed into a deer, causing significant damage to the front end. During the crash, no airbags deployed. The cause of the air bag's failure to deploy was not determined. The vehicle was repaired at the local collision center. Recently, while driving approximately 50 MPH, the driver pressed the brakes to decelerate before crashing into a deer. During the crash, the vehicle sustained minor damage to the front end, but all the air bags in the vehicle deployed, including the driver steering wheel air bag, the front passenger side air bag, the driver and passenger side curtain airbags and seat belt pretensioners, and the passenger side seat air bag. The driver's side seat airbag did not deploy. The contact suffered adverse effects of COPD due to the air bag powder during the deployment. No medical treatment was needed. The cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were not contacted. The contact indicated that due to the minor damage to the vehicle during the crash, the air bag should not have deployed. The vehicle was towed to a collision center and was determined to be destroyed. The failure mileage was unknown.

Engine has developed a serious lifter / cam issue. dealer identified it as a result of Displacement on Demand design. Total engine replacement recommended by dealer but since the mileage on that vehicle is over 100,000 warranty, the repair is not covered. Known issue, should have been pointed out by dealer / manufacturer before warranty expiration. FYI _ I do all repair work at dealer. Vehicle looses power intermittently is is not drivable at any distance. Manufacturing / design issue known over different versions of this engine since 2010, I believe.
- 01/17/2018· SEATS
THE REAR SEAT HEADRESTS ARE UNDERSIZED AND TOO SMALL TO PROPERLY PROTECT AND ACCOMMODATE TEENAGE AND ADULT PASSENGERS. ALSO, WHEN THEY ARE SET AT THEIR HIGHEST SETTING, THEY BECOME UNLOCKED WITH VERY LITTLE BACK OR SHOULDER PRESSURE AND FALL TO THE LOWEST SETTING. IN MY OPINION, THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD.
- 01/16/2020· POWER TRAIN
TRUCK LURCHED UNCONTROLLED FOR SEVERAL FEET WHEN PLACED IN REVERSE GEAR.
- 01/12/2026· SERVICE BRAKES
While traveling at low speeds in parking lots and in the operation of parking, my 2016 GMC Sierra 1500 gets a hard brake pedal that goes to the floor but I have no brakes. I almost hit a person in a local grocery store parking lot, at the bank driving up to the ATM, and I almost lost my truck over a bank because the brakes failed. This has happened multiple times at low speeds but it is getting more consistent recently. It has endangered myself and others. It is only a matter of time until damage occurs or someone gets hurt.

- 01/06/2025· TIRES
255/55R20 these tires only have 30k on them and are starting to dry rot on the sidewall close to the rim on all 4 tires and the tire pressure is checked every couple months I've reached out to Kenda with no response as to date
- 01/03/2019· STEERING
THE VEHICLE HAS EXCESSIVE STEERING PLAY. IT IS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE IN ICY CONDITIONS AND CAN BE NOTICED DRIVING THE VEHICLE STRAIGHT UNDER ALL DRIVING CONDITIONS ON DRY OR ICY PAVEMENT. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY PERFORMED SERVICE BULLETIN WORK AT MY EXPENSE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THE SERVICE BULLETIN AND REWORK INVOLVED TIGHTENING THE STEERING BOX BACKLASH SCREW. THE PROBLEM WAS NOT FIXED AND STILL EXISTS. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM, BUT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED ON THE RECALL LIST TO FIX THE ISSUE. IN ORDER TO FIX THE ISSUE, THE PITMAN ARM SHAFT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED WITH AN UPDATED VERSION GM PN 84240812 IF THE STEERING PLAY CANNOT BE ADJUSTED OUT. THIS IS THE CASE WITH MY VEHICLE AND THE PART WAS NOT REPLACED.
