I AM WRITING ABOUT MY 2015 VW GTI. I AM THE SECOND OWNER OF THIS CAR. LIKE MOST GTI OWNERS, I THOUGHT THAT IT WAS A GREAT CAR. I AM THE 2ND OWNER OF THIS CAR, AND I PURCHASED THE CAR ABOUT 18 MONTHS AGO WHEN IT HAD ABOUT 25,000 MILES ON IT. OVER THE PAST YEAR, I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH OIL LEAKAGE FROM THE CAR. THIS PAST WEEK, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON AGAIN. THE ATTACHED RECORDS SHOW ALL THE ROUTINE CARE AND SPECIAL CARE THAT I HAD TO GIVE THIS CAR DURING THE PAST YEAR. I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE SAME DEALERSHIP AND THE DEALERSHIP FOUND PIECES OF PISTONS AND THE PISTON RING IN THE OIL DRIP PAN. THE PAPER WORK IS ATTACHED ALONG WITH A PICTURE. WHO EVER HEARD OF PISTONS FALLING APART IN A CAR THAT WAS WELL TAKEN CARE OF AND WITH ONLY 60,000 MILES? THIS IS PREPOSTEROUS. THE TECHNICIAN AT THE DEALERSHIP INDICATED THAT THIS WAS THE THIRD CAR THIS YEAR ON WHICH HE WORKED WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THE CAR NEEDS A NEW ENGINE TO A COST OF AT LEAST $10,000. THE CAR IS NOT DRIVABLE ANYMORE AS IT HAS NO ACCELERATION. THE CAR IS WORTHLESS UNLESS SOMEONE WANTS TO PUT IN A NEW ENGINE. I AM SENDING THIS NOTE TO VARIOUS GOVERNMENT AGENCIES TO NOTIFY THEM OF THIS OBVIOUSLY DEFECTIVE CAR. IF I FIND OUT THAT OTHER CARS ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM SUGGESTING A PATTERN OF DEFECTS COVERED UP BY THE MANUFACTURER, I WILL HIRE A LAWYER AND SEEK LEGAL REDRESS. IN THE MEANTIME, AS AN AVERAGE WORKER WHO WORKS FOR A LIVING, I AM OFF TO BUY A NEW CAR AT A HONDA DEALERSHIP WHICH HOPEFULLY WILL BE MORE RELIABLE. THIS WILL SET ME BACK AN ENORMOUS AMOUNT OF MONEY WHICH I CANNOT AFFORD, ESPECIALLY SINCE I STILL HAVE PAYMENTS TO MAKE ON THE 2015 GTI WHICH RIGHT NOW IS COMPLETELY WORTHLESS. *TR

VEHICLE RANDOMLY DISPLAYS MESSAGE ON HUD SCREEN "ERROR: SERVICE VEHICLE. ONLY LEAVE VEHICLE IN P POSITION" I HAVE ONLY EVER HAD IT HAPPEN WHILE DRIVING. EVERYTHING FROM 10MPH TO 80MPH. NO PARTICULAR SPEED SEEMS TO TRIP THE ERROR. AFTER A LONG DRAWN OUT ORDEAL, BOTH THE LOCAL DEALER AND VW OF AMERICA HAVE DENIED REPAIR EVEN THOUGH, THIS EXACT ISSUE BECAUSE IT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE 33,168 SELECT VOLKSWAGEN GOLFS AND GOLF SPORTWAGENS FROM 2015 TO 2018 MODEL YEARS. YET WITH ALL THE EVIDENCE TO INCLUDE THE ECU/TCU LOGS VERIFYING THE PROBLEM SINCE ITS NOT A "AFFECTED" VIN, THEY WILL DO NOTHING. THE LOCAL DEALER CONFIRM THAT THIS IS THE EXACT ISSUE WE HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH SINCE JULY OF THIS YEAR. MOST RECENTLY I WAS GOING THROUGH THE PHARMACY DRIVE-THRU AND IN PARK WHEN THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO ROLL FORWARD WHICH I HAD TO HIT THE BRAKES TO STOP IT. YET WITH ALL THE EVIDENCE TO INCLUDE THE ECU/TCU LOGS VERIFYING THE PROBLEM SINCE ITS NOT A "AFFECTED" VIN, THEY WILL DO NOTHING.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED SINCE THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V647000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE, ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) HOWEVER, THE REPAIR FAILED TO CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED A CASE NUMBER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 65,000.

We purchased our VW Golf TDI ([XXX]) in January 2015 and have now had to replace the clock spring three times. The first two times were covered under the 69L2 limited warranty(See attached bills) but our car now has 128,000 miles and is considered ineligible. We do not understand why our model year was not included under the unlimited warranty extension as part of the 69L2 campaign. When a major component fails three times over a six year period, there is obviously something wrong with it that has not been addressed. Our teenage son drives the car and it is unsafe to have life-saving components like the airbag and horn fail on a regular basis. WHEN I STARTED MY CAR, THE ENGINE JUMPED AND THE CAR SHOOK. I TRIED TO DRIVE IT BUT COULDN'T GET MORE THAN 10 FEET WITHOUT IT CONSTANTLY FEELING LIKE IT WAS BOTH STARTING AND STALLING, AND ROCKING BACK AND FORTH. I HAD TO PARK IT, AND EVEN WHEN COMPLETELY STOPPED THE CAR WOULD SHAKE AND THE ENGINE MADE A TERRIBLE NOISE. MY CAR STARTED TO SMELL REALLY BAD. THE DEALERSHIP TELLS ME THAT IT IS A COIL FAILURE IN THE ENGINE, WHICH CAUSED COMPLETE ENGINE FAILURE AND LEFT ME STRANDED.

SECOND ISSUE IS WITH CAR AT LOAD, DRIVING NORMAL SPEEDS WHEN EPC LIGHT WILL COME ON AND ENGINE POWER IS DRAMATICALLY REDUCED MAKING FOR EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS CONDITION IF PULLING OUT OR ACCELERATING IN TRAFFIC. SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER CAN ONLY BE RESOLVED IF SAFE PLACE AVAILABLE TO PULLOVER AND RESTART THE CAR. VW DEALER SAYS THEY CAN ONLY REPAIR CAR IF IT DISPLAYS BEHAVIOR AT SHOP. SINCE LIGHT IS OFF WHEN RESTARTED IT IS NOT RUNNING POORLY WHEN DRIVEN IN FOR SERVICE THEY STATE NO PROBLEM FOUND. Electronically controlled thermostat failed stuck closed on December 10, 2021. Vehicle had 63814 miles on the odometer. This is a common, known problem with this make/model. Engine overheated in stop and go traffic which caused limp home torque reduction. When traffic resumed there was a potentially dangerous situation because vehicle could not accelerate as quickly as expected by following drivers. There is a design flaw in that the thermostat should fail stuck open, and not stuck closed, to ensure adequate vehicle mobility to avoid a potentially dangerous situation. Additionally, this component is an On-Board Diagnostic Device belonging to the emissions control system. Failure should be covered under the federal emissions control warranty.

THERMOSTAT HOUSING & ASSOCIATED SEALS ON THE CURRENT 1.8L AND 2.0L VOLKSWAGEN/AUDI EA888 GEN 3 ENGINE ARE PRONE TO FAILURE, CAUSING LOSS OF ENGINE COOLANT. THIS COULD AFFECT ANY VW/AUDI VEHICLE USING THE 1.8 OR 2.0L EA888 GEN 3 ENGINE. VW HAS A LONG HISTORY OF WATER PUMP/THERMOSTAT HOUSING ISSUES AND THE CURRENT GENERATION OF VEHICLES IS NO EXCEPTION. SOME VEHICLES, SUCH AS OURS, EXPERIENCED A REPEAT FAILURE. THERE ARE THREE FAILURE MODES THAT I AM AWARE OF AS REPORTED ON THE SITES MENTIONED ABOVE. MY WIFE AND I HAVE EXPERIENCED FAILURE MODES 1 AND 2. WHEN THIS ISSUE IS OCCURRING OWNERS OFTEN REPORT THE SMELL OF COOLANT OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE 1. HOUSING HEATING/COOLING CAUSES EXPANSION/CONTRACTION AND WARPING RESULTING IN A SLOW WEEP OR LEAK FROM THERMOSTAT HOUSING ASSEMBLY & ASSOCIATED SEAL, MOST OF THE TIME NOT DETECTABLE AT THE HOUSING ASSEMBLY/SEAL WITHOUT PRESSURE TEST. OFTEN, VW SERVICE CENTERS ARE UNABLE TO VERIFY THERE IS A LEAK, EVEN AFTER PRESSURE TEST, OWNERS ARE SENT ON THEIR WAY, AND YET COOLANT STILL DISAPPEARS FROM THE TANK. MY WIFE'S CAR WENT IN FOR TESTING MULTIPLE TIMES BEFORE ISSUE WAS FOUND. 2. HOUSING HEATING/COOLING CAUSES EXPANSION/CONTRACTION AND WARPING RESULTING IN A SMALL BUT CONSTANT LEAK LARGE ENOUGH TO CREATE A SMALL PUDDLE OR STREAM UNDER THE CAR. A LOW COOLANT ALERT MAY/MAY NOT APPEAR DEPENDING ON SPEED OF THE LEAK. 3. HOUSING HEATING/COOLING CAUSES EXPANSION/CONTRACTION AND WARPING RESULTING IN A SUDDEN CATASTROPHIC FAILURE RESULTING IN RAPID LOSS OF COOLANT AND CAUSING A VISIBLE LARGE PUDDLE UNDER THE CAR AND A WARNING ALERT TO APPEAR ON THE DASHBOARD.

CARS ARE NOT UNDER WARRANTY FOREVER. BUT PROBLEMS THAT OCCUR TO MOST MODELS, IF YOU SLASHED YOUR HAND WHILE DRIVING - THAT COULD LEAD TO AN ACCIDENT. THERE IS AN ALTERNATIVE, BUT IT TAKES NON MANUFACTURER PARTS TO FIX AFFORDABLY. WHY CAN'T VW EITHER OFFER THIS PART A LA CARTE OR GIVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY? WHY DO I NEED TO BUY AN ENTIRE GEAR SELECTOR FOR A SIMPLE CHROME PLATED PIECE OF PLASTIC TO BE REPLACED? THE GEAR SELECTOR WORKS FINE, IT'S THE CHROME TRIM THAT IS A SEPARATE PART THAT PEELS. I'M JUST ANGRY BECAUSE I HAVE TO GO AROUND THE WORLD AND TRUST AN UNKNOWN CHINESE COMPANY TO SUPPLY A PART THAT VW ALREADY MAKES AND WON'T SELL ON ITS OWN. The contact owns a 2015 Volkswagen Golf. The contact noticed that the fuel pump would frequent stop while fueling the vehicle. The contact then stated that while his vehicle was being driven by a valet, fuel began to pour out of the fuel tank while on an incline. The valet attendant managed to drive the vehicle down a decline which stopped the leak. Despite the failure, the contact was able to drive the vehicle home. The vehicle was then driven to a dealer where a diagnostic test was performed. The dealer informed the contact that the suction pump, seal, and emission filter needed to be replaced. Upon investigation, the contact linked the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V647000 (Fuel System, Gasoline, Engine and Engine Cooling) however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed him that the vehicle was no longer under warranty. The vehicle had yet to be repaired and remained in the possession of the dealer. The contact owns a 2015 Volkswagen Golf. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the fuel gauge level dropped quickly, and there was an abnormal fuel odor before the vehicle shutoff in the middle of the roadway. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact exited the vehicle and push the vehicle to the side of the road. The contact stated that while checking underneath the vehicle, the contact became aware of a fuel leak. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The independent mechanic confirmed the fuel leak and referred the contact to the dealer for assistance with the repair. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V110000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE) as a possible cause for the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 111,000.

The heat in my 2015 GTI Autobahn only blows warm air out of the drivers side when heat is on for both sides. The VW dealership recommends a new thermostat, water pump, and heater core, and blend door. For now, I'm stuck with having a semi warm vehicle and the possibility of engine overheating while on the highway. With the coolant and thermostat being one of the vital parts of the vehicle, its upsetting for such a new vehicle to have such a common problem of needing a new water pump across the board. These types of imperfections in design and quality control need to be addressed due to the shear amount of people needing coolant related issues resolved on their own dime. Do better VW.

This razor blade sharp chrome trim near the shift nob and the small storage compartment is cutting my finger up every time I tried getting something out of the small compartment. This has already happened to me three times already while driving, it's like a paper cut and you look down to find a cut with blood dripping out of your finger. It is extremely dangerous when you are driving on the road when this happen, Volkswagen should have a recall on this chrome trim piece for the safety of all GTI owners period. I'm not the only one with this problem, many MK7 GTI owners are experiencing the same issue.

Plastic Thermostat Housing Failure-- Cracks and leaking coolant. While getting an oil change done at a local Volkswagen dealership, the mechanic pointed out that there is a coolant leak and showed me where the leak is coming from (Thermostat housing/water pump) The coolant is slowly seep out of the crack on the underside of the thermostat housing, I have been adding coolant every other week. As the loss of coolant often trips the low coolant warning if the level isn't maintained. I feel like I'm not the only one with this issue, after reading online Volkswagen community. Many 2015-2020 GTI owners are also having the same problem. The car overheated couple times when stuck in New York traffic, I would like Volkswagen manufacture to address this issue and give all the GTI owners an explanation to why their part fails less than a few years of ownership.

Recall service was performed on the fuel system. The vehicle was operating normally before the recall. Shortly after the recall service, the fuel gauge failed and became stuck at mid-level. Dealer refuses to cover the repair and claims it is unrelated, but the timing and failure of another fuel system component suggests otherwise. This presents a safety issue because the driver cannot determine fuel level or range and may impact other recalled vehicles and should be included in the repair of the fuel system. The recall that was performed on the vehicle was "Safety Recall 20UF - Suction Jet Pump". I believe the timing of the failure suggests that the recall work impacted the vehicle fuel system and I don't believe it's fair for customers following safety recalls to be punished and required to pay for further damages caused from a recall on the vehicle.

Linkage on the turbo wastegate actuator seizes if the car is not driven for more than a few months at a time. This causes the car to not produce any boost and leaves it in a state in between limp mode and normal rpm range. This makes it incredibly inconsistent with rpm and maintaining speed.

The contact's husband walked around to inspect the vehicle. The contact's husband noticed gasoline leaking from the rear of the vehicle. The contact stated that her husband noticed a trail of gasoline leading up to the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer. The vehicle was diagnosed with a fuel leak from an internal failure. The contact was informed that the charcoal canister and purge valve needed to be replaced, and the vapor side of the fueling system needed to be flushed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.

Hello - I own a MK7 VW GTI with approximately 42,000 miles. The vehicle has consistently had a "check engine" and "Low Coolant" light since approximately 20,000 miles and 3 years. The dealer checked the car but did not see a leak under their test. However, the car was diagnosed with a leaking water pump and thermostat which has been replaced out of pocket by an independent. This is apparently common with MK7 GTIs and can cause engine failure and stalling in the middle of the road.

Fuel leak in the passenger rear wheel well. Called local Volkswagen dealership and was told the suction pump was replaced in 2016 as the originals were known for having defects causing the same issues I am currently having. Replacement part seems to be defective as fuel is leaking onto the ground and in the wheel well which is a hazard for the environment and potential danger as a fire hazard. The problem has been recent for me (within the past 2 days) reading online it has apparently been a persistent issue since 2015 with the same make and model of vehicles for the 2015 and 2016 models.

Thermostat housing and water pump are leaking coolant. It is available for inspection. It can cause my engine to overheat and/or fail while being used. It has been confirmed by a dealership. It has not been inspected by the police, manufacturer, or insurance company. There have been occasional reports of low coolant, and the coolant drains significantly faster than expected especially in cold weather (e.g. needing to fill coolant every 7 days). It was first repaired in 2019, and has since failed again.

IN THE VW GTI THERE ARE VARIOUS INTERIOR TRIM BITS THAT ARE A PLASTIC WITH A CHROME PLATING ON THEM. THE ISSUE WITH THESE ARE, THAT IT EVENTUALLY BEGINS TO DETACH ITSELF FROM THE PLASTIC TRIM PIECES AND IS EXTREMELY SHARP LIKE A RAZOR BLADE. THE REASON FOR REPORTING IT IS THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS WITH SEVERAL PIECES IN MY OWN PERSONAL VEHICLE BOTH WHILE THE CAR IS PARKED AND IN MOTION. VW HAS A HISTORY OF REPLACING THESE PARTS UNDER WARRANTY ACCORDING TO FELLOW OWNERS, BUT THIS IS A CLEAR SAFETY ISSUE. THE PARTICULAR TRIM PIECE IN QUESTION IS RIGHT BEHIND THE GEAR SHIFTER AND IN FRONT OF THE CUBBY HOLE WHERE ONE WOULD PLUG IN THEIR MEDIA PLAYER OR CELLULAR PHONE ANY OTHER VARIOUS ITEMS USED THROUGH OUT THE DAY. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE AS IT COULD VERY EASILY HAVE SLICED MY WRIST WHILE I REACHED INTO THE CUBBY TO RETRIEVE MY PHONE. THE FRUSTRATING PART IS THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THIS CAR HAS DRAWN BLOOD DURING DAILY USE. THE ENGINE START/STOP BUTTON HAS, THE GEAR SHIFTER HAS AND SO HAS THE STEERING WHEEL. IT WAS ONLY MY THUMB THAT WAS CUT IN THE PROCESS, BUT IT CUT VERY DEEP LIKE A RAZOR BLADE WOULD AND IT WAS A CHALLENGE TO GET IT TO STOP BLEEDING EVEN HOURS AFTER. NOW, THE CAR WAS PARKED WHEN THIS HAPPENED, BUT DRIVING HOME CERTAINLY WAS A CHALLENGE WITH BLOOD GUSHING FROM MY THUMB. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO MANY PEOPLE WITH THE SAME VEHICLE ACCORDING TO MANY OF THE ONLINE SITES THAT OWNERS OF THESE CARS FREQUENT. ONE WAS EVEN A CASE WHERE THEIR VERY YOUNG CHILD WAS REACHING IN THE STORAGE CUBBY FOR SOMETHING AND CUT THEMSELVES RATHER BADLY ON THAT PIECE OF TRIM. IF IT CAN CUT DEEPLY LIKE A RAZOR BLADE, IT IS NOT IMPLAUSIBLE THAT IT COULD HAVE POSSIBLY CUT THEIR WRIST AND CAUSED A MUCH MORE SERIOUS INJURY. I HAVE YET TO REPORT TO VW MYSELF, BUT, AS THIS OCCURS TO MANY OWNERS, I FEEL IT IS MY DUTY TO INSURE IT DOES NOT GO UNREPORTED TO NHTSA.
