The transmission shift cable fell off the transmission shift lever in the engine compartment. The plastic bushing that holds the shift cable in place is worn out or defective. Ford has a replacement part (#DG9Z-7K340-A) and a new cover cap to protect the bushing now. Wondering why this is not a safety recall. The linkage fell off while my wife was parking the vehicle in sub-zero weather. She had the shifter in park, but the vehicle was actually in neutral or reverse. The vehicles engine could be started or stopped, would not drive, but could roll. Luckily it was on level ground when it happened. Ford has the same problem on earlier year models but not on our model year. The Ford dealer told me that there were no recalls or TSBs for my VIN model.

IT FIRST STARTED WHILE SITTING AT A LIGHT AND THE GEARS SHIFTED ON THEIR OWN KIND OF FELT LIKE IT JUST CLICKED INTO PLACE. I CONTINUED TO DRIVE AS NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND IT WAS FEELING FINE. I WAS DRIVING DOWN A HILL AT 45 MPH AND THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN MY RPMS SHOT FROM A 2.5/3 TO A 7RPM RIGHT BACK DOWN TO A 1RPM AND THIS TOOK ME IMMEDIATELY DOWN TO 26MPH THIS TOTALLY FREAKED ME OUT AS I HAVE NEVER HAD THIS ISSUE AND WAS ON A BUSY ROAD. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AND PUT MY HAZARDS ON.... I WAS NOT IN A SAFE SPOT SO I DECIDED TO TRY TO DRIVE THE CAR TO A ROAD OFF THE MAIN ROAD WHEN I DID THIS THE CAR WAS NOT EVEN ALLOWING ME TO ACCELERATE. I SAT THERE HOPING NO ONE HIT ME TURNED THE CAR OFF AND THEN IT WAS DRIVABLE AGAIN. I HAD IT TOWED TO MY HOUSE AS COVID MECHANICS WERE CLOSED FOR THE WEEKEND. I THEN HAD IT TOWED TO A MECHANIC WHO WAS TRUSTED WHO MENTIONED IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION, WHICH MY CAR DOESNT EVEN HAVE 100,000. I DID NOT HAVE IT FIXED THERE AS I TOOK IT TO FROD NOW TO HAVE A LOOK THEY WANTED ME TO PAY 1400$ TO JUST OPEN THE TRANSMISSION WHEN THEY ALREADY KNEW IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND EXPLAINED THAT THEY STAND BUY THERE RELIABILITY AS THEY MENTION THAT ALL THERE CARS ARE AND EXPLAINED THAT WAS ONE OF THE REASONS I PURCHASED MY CAR HOWEVER, THEIR RELIABILITY HAS FAILED!!! I THEN SAID THEY ALSO MENTION THAT THEY HAVE GREAT CUSTOMER SATISFACTION AND AIM TO PLEASE THEIR CUSTOMERS. SO I ASKED FOR A GOODWILL SINCE THE RELAIBILTY FAILED. I HAVE BEEN PUSHED AROUND AND GONE IN CIRCLES WITH THE PERSON WHOM HAS OPENED MY CLAIM# AND HAVE BEEN ON THE PHONE FOR MULTIPLE DAYS ON MULTIPLE ACCOUNTS AND HAVE GOTTEN NO FEEDBACK. I WORK ACROSS THE STREET AND CAN ACCESS THEM WHY CANT THEY? I AM STILL WAITING TO HEAR WHAT GOODWILL THEY CAN GIVE!!!TRANSMIIONS SHOULD LAST AT LEAST 100,000 MILES WHY HASNT THIS ONE?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Engine began giving white smoke from exhaust at start up. 2 Mechanics have checked it and said it’s a well Known coolant intrusion issue with these ford eco boost engines. High risk of overheating and engine failure (while driving, which is a major safety risk for my family).
- 12/28/2024· ENGINE
The engine failed at 96,000 miles and we had it replaced with a new engine. Then at 131,000 miles the dealer stated that the engine has failed again and needs to be replaced because there is some delaminating happening in the engine. The 1.6L ecoboost engine is known for early failure. The new engine is only 3 months out of warranty and Ford will do nothing to assist in the engine replacement.

I WAS TOLD AT THE FORD DEALER THAT THE LUG NUTS SWELLED SO THE LUG WTENCH WOULD NO LONGER FIT THE LUGS PREVENTING THE TIRE FROM BEING REMOVED. I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD SINCE YOU CAN'T CHANGE THE TIRE. THE SECOND TIME I WAS ENTERING A COUNTY HIGHWAY AT APP. 35 MPH AND THE CAR STALLED OUT. I WAS ABLE TO DRIFT ONTO THE SHOULDER AND THE CAR RESTARTED A FEW MINUTES LATER AND RAN NORMALLY. THE THIRD TIME, APPROXIMATELY A WEEK LATER, I WAS DRIVING IN THE PARKING LOT OF A SHOPPING MALL AT APP 20 MPH. THERE WAS A LOUD, CONTINUOUS NOISE FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE WHICH SOUNDED LIKE I WAS DRAGGING AN OBJECT. THE CAR THEN STALLED AND WOULD NOT START FOR A FEW MINUTES. IT NOW RUNS NORMALLY BUT I HAVE SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT WITH CAPITAL FORD OF WILMINGTON, NC FOR 12/31/2019. EACH TIME THE STALLING HAPPENED, IT SEEMED AS IF THE ENGINE WAS NOT GETTING ANY GAS.

Coolant leaking into cylinder causing misfire. The reason why the coolant is leaking into the chamber is because of a manufacturers defect. The engine block has impurities that eventually rusted away causing pinholes between the cylinder and coolant. This is a well known issue with mechanics. If someone has this issue and does not know the engine can seize or blow causing the engine to not work. If this happens while on a highway the potential for an accident goes way up. Please make Ford make this right. I have had this defect verified by a certified Ford dealership and two independent mechanics. This is a costly repair due to the entire engine being defective from the bad casting.

I NOTICED THAT MY HEAT STOPPED WORKING WHILE IDLING. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH, I CHECKED THE ENGINE COOLANT LEVELS AND DISCOVERED MY ENGINE COOLANT WAS PRETTY LOW. I FILLED THE COOLANT AND THE ISSUE WAS FIXED. A FEW DAYS LATER; HOWEVER, I NOTICED THE ISSUE AGAIN. UPON CHECKING MY COOLANT LEVEL AGAIN, I SAW THAT THE LEVEL HAD DROPPED AGAIN. I CHECKED EVERYWHERE FOR LEAKS BUT SAW NONE. I THEN BROUGHT MY CAR TO A MECHANIC WHO ALSO CHECKED FOR LEAKS. HE TOLD ME THERE WERE NO EXTERNAL LEAKS. THE COOLANT WAS LEAKING INTO ENGINE, A COMMON PROBLEM THEY SEE WITH FORD VEHICLES. THEY TOLD ME IT WAS NOT WORTH IT TO FIX THE PROBLEM, AND THAT I WAS BETTER OFF TRADING IT IN FOR A NEW CAR. I'M SO UPSET BECAUSE I TOOK EXCEPTIONAL CARE OF MY VEHICLE AND NOW NEED TO CAR SHOP DURING A PANDEMIC WITH POOR CREDIT DUE TO PANDEMIC CIRCUMSTANCES. Additionally, the contact stated that while making a right turn from a complete stop, he depressed the accelerator pedal, but the vehicle hesitated to respond. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated while driving several days later, the vehicle made an abnormal winding and knocking sound. An independent mechanic inspected the vehicle at the residence and determined that the abnormal sound was due to the torque converter not receiving enough fluid from the transmission pump. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure recurred while driving. The contact stated that while accelerating from a Four-Way Stop, the vehicle failed to respond. The contact was able to push the vehicle to the side of the road with the assistance of bystanders. The contact stated that he turned off and restarted the vehicle, and he was able to drive to the nearby independent mechanic. The mechanic referred the contact to a Ford dealer for assistance. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with internal transmission failure, which caused the low transmission fluid pressure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 87,265.

I was pulling out of our alleyway onto a main road when the vehicle seemed to have stalled in the middle of the road and the steering assist warning came on. Luckily the driver of the car that would have T-boned me was paying close attention and was able to stop in time. I suspect some drivers may not be so lucky. I have yet to contact Ford or any other mechanic about this as this was the first time that it's happened. I have read that there are recalls for a very similar if not same issue with 2014 Escapes and I believe the 2015 Lincoln. I've also seen in message boards online that this seems to be a very common problem with most modern Ford Escapes. Seems dangerous and that they should be forced to do a recall on most of their Escapes. The contact stated that the issue is that steering control module keeps shorting out. The contact stated that their local Ford dealership has refused to repair the vehicle.

- 12/11/2022· FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
The vehicle has completely shut off while driving on several occasions now. The first time it happened we had it towed and ended up replacing the battery. The 2nd time we put it back to park and restarted the vehicle and assumed it was just a fluke. It has happened 2 more times now within the last few weeks and it is a very serious concern. Mechanics have no idea what is happening or what's causing the issue. I have done some research and it seems this is a common issue with this vehicle. There needs to be a recall/fix for this problem as it could cause an accident and cost someone their life. We do not feel safe driving the vehicle anymore.

The engine suffered a catastrophic failure on 11/26/2024 with coolant leaking into the engine producing a white noxious smoke from the exhaust, engine overheating, and engine misfires. The engine light did not appear. It was the smoke from the exhaust that alerted me to the issue. At the time of the engine overheat I was driving interstate 10 in Desert Center CA. It was apparent the coolant was leaking. There were no mechanic shops nearby. A good samaritan driver had coolant to add to my engine. I had the engine inspected by three separate mechanics, all identified the issue as a known defect in the 2.0l ford ecoboost engine. The engine failure occurred at approximately 73,500 miles, which I believe is premature given the vehicle's maintenance history and mileage.

We had to replace the engine about 4 years ago and we’re still getting gas smell into the cabin. About 3 years ago, we broke down on the road because the transmission quit. All our repairs have been done through Ford service department. We are now broke down again because of the transmission. Something has to be done with the Ford Escape!

On 11/21/21 I went to Sam's Club to have new tires installed. They were unable to remove lug nuts on both back tires, they said the nuts were swollen. They could not proceed with tire installation. On 11/23/21 I went to Goodyear for new tire installation. They also found the lug nuts to be swollen. They were able to get them removed and complete the tire installation, with 5 lug nuts needing to be replaced at a cost of $39.95. They suggested I purchase a full set of lug nuts and get them all replaced soon. There was no warning message alerting me to this issue so I had no idea until I tried to have the car serviced. Both Sam's and Goodyear said they see this problem often on Ford vehicles. Doing some research on the internet, I see that many people have this issue with Ford.
