BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 MINI Cooper Hardtop two door vehicles manufactured December 1, 2013, to December 14, 2014. The affected vehicles may have been manufactured with an incorrect maximum capacity weight stated on the Tire Information Placard. Thus, these vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 110, "Tire Selection and Rims and Motor Home/Recreation Vehicle Trailer Load Carrying Capacity Information for Motor Vehicles with a GVWR of 4,536 kilograms (10,000 pounds) or less."
Risk: The maximum weight listed on the label is incorrect (too low) and therefore does not comply with Federal Regulations.
Fix: MINI will notify owners, and dealers will replace the incorrect labels with corrected labels, free of charge. Owners were mailed interim notification on March 18, 2015. The recall began on October 15, 2015. Owners may contact MINI customer service at 1-866-825-1525.

BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 MINI Cooper and MINI Cooper S Hardtop 2 Door vehicles and 2015 MINI John Cooper Works Hardtop 2 Door vehicles. The affected vehicles do not meet the side impact performance requirements for the rear seat passengers. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 214, "Side Impact Protection."
Risk: If the side impact performance requirements are not met, rear seat passengers may be at a higher risk of injury during a crash.
Fix: MINI will notify owners, and dealers will install additional energy absorption material between the rear interior side panels and the exterior vehicle body, free of charge. The recall began on September 4, 2015. Owners may contact MINI customer service at 1-866-825-1525. Note: this recall supersedes 14V-815.
- POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:CONTROL MODULE (TCM/PCM/TECM)Campaign 14V789000 · 15/12/2014
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 MINI Cooper Hardtop 2 Door, and Cooper S Hardtop 2 Door vehicles manufactured January 6, 2014, to October 17, 2014. During service appointments, dealers may have inadvertently reprogrammed the transmission control unit with software that may allow drivers to exit the vehicle when the transmission is not in Park. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 114, "Theft Protection and Rollaway Prevention."
Risk: If the driver exits the vehicle without the transmission being in Park, the vehicle could roll away as the driver and other occupants exit the vehicle or anytime thereafter. A vehicle rollaway increases the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders.
Fix: MINI will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the transmission control module with the correct software, free of charge. The recall February 4, 2015. Owners can contact MINI customer service at 1-866-825-1525.
- AIR BAGS:FRONTALCampaign 14V422000 · 14/07/2014
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling a certain model year BMW i3 vehicle manufactured March 31, 2014, and certain 2014 MINI Cooper Hardtop vehicles manufactured February 2, 2014 to May 30, 2014. The affected vehicles may have been manufactured with an air bag inflator that was not assembled correctly. This could cause the air bag to not deploy properly in the event of an accident.
Risk: If the air bag deploys improperly in the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the air bags, the seat occupant may be at an increased risk of injury.
Fix: BMW will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front passenger side air bag, free of charge. The recall began in September 2014. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 MINI Cooper Hardtop 2 door vehicles manufactured February 25, 2014, to May 16, 2015, 2014-2015 MINI Cooper S Hardtop 2 door vehicles manufactured March 28, 2014, to May 9, 2015, 2015 MINI Cooper Hardtop 4 door vehicles manufactured October 17, 2014, to June 2, 2015, and 2015 MINI Cooper S Hardtop 4 door vehicles manufactured November 24, 2014, to June 11, 2015. During a service appointment, the affected vehicles received replacement front passenger seat cushions (which contain integral Capacitive Interior Sensing (CIS) functions). The CIS functions may have been incorrectly calibrated, and if so, would cause impaired occupant classification and thus inappropriate air bag activation/deactivation.
Risk: Inappropriate air bag activation/deactivation can increase the risk of occupant injury in the event of a vehicle crash.
Fix: MINI will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the front passenger seat cushion, free of charge. The recall began on December 28, 2015. Owners may contact MINI customer service at 1-866-825-1525 .

Due to a manufacturing error, the passenger frontal air bag may not deploy properly in a low speed crash. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."
Risk: In the event of a vehicle crash, an air bag that does not deploy properly increases the risk of injury to the front seat passenger.
Fix: MINI and BMW will notify owners, and dealers will replace the passenger frontal air bag module, free of charge. The recall began on November 25, 2015. Owners may contact MINI customer service at 1-866-825-1525 and BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

Risk: Vibrations from driving may cause the nut to loosen, allowing the wheel to separate from the car. If the spare wheel separates from the vehicle, it could become a road hazard and increase the risk of a crash.
Fix: BMW will notify owners, and dealers will replace the spare wheel securing nut with a self-locking nut, free of charge. The recall began on November 20, 2014. Owners may contact MINI customer service at 1-866-275-6464.

I HAVE A 2014 MINI COOPER HARDTOP. I HAVE HAD THIS CAR SERVICED AT LEAST 4 SEPARATE TIMES FOR A RECURRING ISSUE. TODAY WAS VERY DIFFERENT AND UNEXPLAINABLE. I WAS DRIVING TO WORK ON THE FREEWAY, MY CAR REACHES SPEEDS OF 80 AT LEAST, BUT I HAD SLOWED TO A CRAWL BEFORE THE TOLL PLAZA. TRAFFIC WAS THE USUAL HEAVY TRAFFIC. I MUST HAVE BEEN GOING 5-10 MPH IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. SUDDENLY, TH CAR STARTED BUCKING , LIKE IT WAS HAVING TROUBLE DOWNSHIFTING . THIS IS THE TYPICAL BUCKING IT MAKES RIGHT BEFORE THE "DRIVE TRAIN MALFUNCTION: DRIVE MODERATELY." WARNING COMES ON. THE ENGINE STARTED TICKING (TO ME THAT IS INDICATING LACK OR NO OIL). "DRIVE TRAIN MALFUNCTION: DRIVE MODERATELY." AND "DROP IN OIL PRESSURE. SLOW TO A STOP " WARNINGS BOTH CAME ON. I PULLED OVER 3 LANES QUICKLY TO THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY , SHUT THE CAR OFF AND HOPED I WAS IN A SAFE SPOT. WHEN THE TOW TRUCK OPERATOR CAME, HE TOLD ME OIL WAS UNDERNEATH MY CAR. WHY WOULD A CAR JUST SPILL OIL OUT WHILE DRIVING ? IM PRETTY SCARED OF WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO MY ENGINE. CAR IS AT THE DEALER, AND I'M REALLY NOT CONFIDENT IN THIS CAR. I HAVE NOT BEEN CONFIDENT SINCE ALL OF THE PROBLEMS I HAVE HAD SINCE PURCHASE.

Engine motor mount sheared, allowing motor to interact with and bounce directly on the frame, and stressing the other connections and components. Dealer indicated this is a very common problem for this car model and is likely a design issue, and even had another example of a sheared mount on display in order to show others with the same issue.

THERE WAS NO ONE SITTING IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT, BUT MY IPOD WAS ON THE SEAT. A "FASTEN SEAT BELT" WARNING WENT OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I HAD BEEN DRIVING FOR OVER 30 MINUTES WHEN THIS HAPPENED. WHILE DRIVING, I REMOVED THE IPOD FROM THE SEAT, BUT THE WARNING DID NOT STOP. BECAUSE IT WAS NOT IMMEDIATELY POSSIBLE TO PULL OVER, I HAD TO IGNORE SAFETY LIGHTS AND CHIMES UNTIL I COULD PULL OVER. ALTHOUGH THIS FALSE WARNING HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES WITH LIGHT OBJECTS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT, IT DOES NOT HAPPEN CONSISTENTLY. THE DEALER INSISTS THE CAR IS FUNCTIONING PROPERLY, AND SUGGESTED I LEAVE THE PASSENGER SEAT BELT FASTENED. I THINK THIS BEHAVIOR IS A SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE (1) IT IS A SOURCE OF UNPREDICTABLE DRIVER DISTRACTION; (2) IT ENCOURAGES DRIVERS TO DEFEAT A SAFETY WARNING BY LEAVING THE PASSENGER SEAT BELT FASTENED; AND (3) IF THE SEAT SENSOR CAN'T DISTINGUISH BETWEEN AN IPOD AND A PERSON, HOW CAN IT GIVE THE PROPER READINGS TO THE AIR BAG SYSTEM IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH. *TR

The fuse box JBE module has a Quality Assurance problem with a solder connection to the NEC low pressure fuel relay. This is a known issue with BMW/Mini. The car suddenly stalls without warning. If the driver is not keen or if traffic patterns do not allow, the car can be left in very dangerous situations on the highway or in the middle of intersection. The repair for this problem is widely distributed online via blogs and YouTube, but replacement modules are $1500 (part only) and these modules are not available until at least October 2023. There are no warning lights or other warnings prior to the incident. While I am not aware of any serious injuries, it is only a matter of time before someone is t-boned at an intersections. This part MUST be immediately recalled due to the safety risk. The images below show the JBE fuse box housing as well as the PCB where the cold solder joint can be seen. I have circled the cold solder joint in the close up picture.

The JBE (junction box electronics) has failed. This has caused the fuel pump to stop responding. I'm not sure if my mechanic still has the original part. It did this in the street after backing out of the driveway. It could have been deadly had it happened on the interstate at 70mph. The unit has been inspected by a third party electronics repair shop and cannot be repaired. There were no warnings until it stopped working in the street. Vehicle has not been repaired, because available parts are diverted first to warrantied vehicles.

ON TWO OCCASIONS (7/19/14 AND 7/29/14), THE ENGINE CUT-OFF, PUTTING THE CAR IN "ACCESSORY MODE." ON BOTH OCCASIONS, I WAS DRIVING ON A FLAT ROAD, AT LOW SPEED. THERE WAS NO ABILITY TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE WITHOUT COMPLETELY STOPPING, PUTTING THE CAR IN PARK, AND RESTARTING THE CAR. AS A RESULT OF BEING IN ACCESSORY MODE, I HAD NO POWER STEERING AND WAS ONLY ABLE TO GLIDE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. A MESSAGE APPEARED ON THE CAR'S SCREEN: "TRANSMISSION NOT IN PARK, VEHICLE MAY ROLL." I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE 3 MONTHS AGO. I AM VERY CONCERNED, AND I DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS CAR. IF THIS WERE TO HAPPEN ON A HIGHWAY, THERE WOULD CERTAINLY BE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT, AS I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO GET THE CAR TO THE SHOULDER. AS EVIDENCED IN THE GM IGNITION SWITCH CASES, WHEN A CAR IS SWITCHED INTO ACCESSORY MODE WHILE DRIVING, THE AIRBAGS ARE DEACTIVATED AS WELL. SHOULD THIS HAPPEN ON A BUSY ROADWAY/HIGHWAY, AND THERE IS AN ACCIDENT, THERE IS THE POTENTIAL THAT IT COULD BE FATAL. *TR

On or around 6/20/26, I went to drive my 2014 mini countryman. When I got inside, I quickly realized that there was mold growing throughout the vehicle, on the carpet, and in the trunk. The vehicle started, but I was unable to use the drivers side window. I sent the vehicle in for service and was informed that a massive leak after a storm had clogged the drain tubes to the moon roof allowing water to leak into the driver side floor. The water damaged the electrical box which caused the window to stop worked. I found out later that this electrical component failure can cause several other issues most alarmingly, increased potential for an electrical fire. I have filed a claim with my insurance company due to the water damage and mold. I’ve been quoted between $5,000-8,000 for repairs to the electric panel, cleaning the mold, replacing the carpet etc. other models of the mini for 2014 were recalled due to sunroof issues. It appears my mini countryman has the same moonroof and same problems as the other mini models that were recalled. Clearing of the drains on the moonroof should at least be a requirement under typical maintenance and communicated to buyers before they purchase these vehicles.

MY INSURANCE HAS ASKED ME TO FILE THIS COMPLAINT AS MY VEHICLE'SAIRBAGS DEPLOYED AT AN IMPACT UNDER 5 MPH LEADING TO THE CONCLUSION THAT THE AIRBAG SENSOR IN MY CAR IS FAULTY.ON FRIDAY, JULY 6TH AT 10:15 AM I WAS DRIVING ON THE 405 N IN BUMPER TO BUMPER FREEWAY TRAFFIC, IT WAS A CLEAR DAY WITH GOOD VISIBILITY AND ROAD CONDITIONS. THE TWO VEHICLE'S INVOLVED IN THE MINOR COLLISIONWERE MY 2014 MINI COUNTRYMAN AND A 2017 INFINITY. MANYCARS WERE CUTTING OVER TO THE RIGHT TO GET ONTO THE UPCOMING 55 NORTH AND SOUTHBOUND INTERCHANGE HIGHWAY. ASI WAS MERGING TO THE LEFT A GREY CAR SPED BY TO MERGE RIGHT CAUSING ME TO MERGE BACK INTO MY LANE. HOWEVER, THE WHITE INFINITY AHEADHAD HIT THE BRAKES CAUSING ME TOTAP HER REAR BUMPER AT AN IMPACT UNDER 5 MPH. THEN THE THREE DRIVER'S SIDE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED 911 AND THEY TRANSFERRED ME TO THE CHP. AFTER HANGING UP, I GOT OUT OF MY CAR AND THE OTHER DRIVER AND IEXCHANGED INFORMATION. THE OTHER DRIVER LEFT WITHIN 5 MINUTES AS HERBUMPER WAS LEFT WITH ONLY A MINOR SCRATCH, AND NO DENTS OR BUMPS.I GOT BACK IN MY VEHICLE AND WAITED FOR THE CHP. WHEN THE OFFICER ARRIVED, HE PUSHED MY CAR TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD. WE WAITED FOR THE AAA TOW TRUCK. NO ACCIDENT REPORT WAS TAKEN AS THERE WAS NO ACCUSATIONS OR INJURY. THE TOW TRUCK DROVE MY VEHICLE TO THE NEAREST MINI DEALERSHIP.MY INSURANCE COMPANY WANTS TO MOVE FORWARD AND FIX BOTH CARS' MINOR DAMAGE AND REPAIR MY VEHICLE'S AIRBAGS. THECOST PER AIRBAG RANGES FROM $1000 TO $2000.HOW VERY UNFORTUNATE GIVEN THE EXTREMELY MINOR DAMAGE INVOLVED.FROM WHAT I HAVE GATHERED, I'VE FOUND THAT AIRBAGSARE TO DEPLOY AT AN ABSOLUTE MINIMUM SPEED OF 10 MPH. GIVEN THE FACT THAT THE AFOREMENTIONED COLLISION OCCURRED BELOW 10 MPH, IT IS THEREFORE TO BE ASSUMED THAT SOME SORT OF ERROR OCCURRED CAUSING THE DEPLOYMENT OF MY VEHICLE'S AIRBAGS.

DIAGNOSED AS A FAILURE OF A WELDING ON THE OIL PUMP HOUSING. MINI REPLACED PART AND RETURNED CAR TO ME. WITHIN 1 MILE, "DRIVE TRAIN MALFUNCTION" IGNITED AGAIN. A WEEK LATER, THEY REPORTED THAT THERE WERE METAL SHAVINGS IN THE OIL AND THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACE. I SOLD IT BACK TO MINI AS A LEMON.

MY CAR WAS PARKED AND I WENT TO START IT UP IN THE MORNING TO GO TO WORK. A LIGHT CAME ON WHICH LOOKED LIKE AN AIRBAG/SEATBELT LIGHT. IN MY VEHICLE IT WAS NOT ONE OF THE REGULAR SERVICE LIGHTS THAT THEY HAVE HIGHLIGHTED IN THE MANUAL SO I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP THAT AFTERNOON. THEY MADE AN APPOINTMENT FOR ME TO BRING MY CAR IN TO BE CHECKED OUT ON 4/5/16 WHICH I DID. BEFORE I GOT THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP THE LIGHT HAD TURNED OFF BUT I TOOK IT IN ANYWAY. THEY SAID THEY WOULD CHECK IT OUT AND GET BACK TO ME. THE NEXT DAY THEY CALLED ME TO TELL ME THAT IT WAS AN AIRBAG ISSUE AND THEY HAD TO SPECIAL ORDER THE PARTS FROM GERMANY WHICH WOULD BE IN ON 4/22/16. LATER THAT MONTH THEY CALLED ME BACK AND ASKED ME TO BRING THE LOANER CAR THEY HAD SUPPLIED TO ME BACK BECAUSE THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE AND BEING BACKORDERED NATIONALLY. THEY HAD THEIR PARENT COMPANY PAY FOR A RENTAL VEHICLE BUT THERE WERE ISSUES WITH A COUPLE OF THOSE CARS TOO. IT IS NOW MAY 5, 2016 AND I HADN'T HEARD ANYTHING MORE SO I CALLED THEM AND THEY SAID THEY MAY HAVE PARTS TOMORROW AND BECAUSE MY CAR HAS BEEN THERE SO LONG THEY WOULD TRY AND PUT MINE FIRST TO BE SERVICED. IT'S BEEN VERY DISAPPOINTING AND AN INCONVENIENCE SINCE THEY HAVE PUT ME IN 4 DIFFERENT CARS IN THE LAST MONTH. NOW I AM UNEASY ABOUT HOW SAFE MY VEHICLE ACTUALLY IS. IT IS A 2014 AND HAS LOW MILES AND IS IN GOOD SHAPE AND I'VE HAD IT LESS THAN A YEAR AND QUESTIONING MY DECISION TO PURCHASE THIS VEHICLE AT ALL.

The fuse box is defective and we are not able to find one anywhere on the globe that has this part. The lights will not go off and wears down the brand new battery we purchased. The car will not start & leaves us with a defective car. It’s a 2014 & only has 59,000 miles on it. The car came from Germany and only had one previous owner. How can you help us? We have an appointment with the BMW dealership on Maui, [XXX]. We just spent $400.00 to have the problem diagnosed. PURCHASED USED SUMMER 2018. IN FALL OF 2018, FRONT DRIVER-SIDE DOOR LATCH MECH. FAILED, PREVENTING DOOR FROM CLOSING. MECH WAS REPLACED BY DEALER. WINTER OF 2018 THE DRIVER-SIDE REAR AND PASSENGER-SIDE REAR LATCH MECHS FAILED. AGAIN, DOORS CANNOT BE SECURED WHEN THE MECH FAILS. DEALER REPLACED BOTH REAR DOOR MECHS.. ON APRIL 7 2020, PASSENGER-SIDE FRONT MECH FAILED, PREVENTING DOOR FROM BEING SHUT. TWO COMPLAINTS: WHY SO MANY FAILURES IN THE LATCH MECHANISM, AND WHY THE FAILURE MODE RENDERS THE DOOR UNABLE TO BE CLOSED OR LATCHED. VEHICLE CAN'T EVEN BE SAFELY TOWED WITH THE DOORS DISENGAGED FROM THE NADER PIN. WE USED NYLON RATCHET STRAPS TO SECURE THE DOORS SHUT WHILE TRANSPORTING IT FOR REPAIR. FIRST THREE LOCK MECHS FAILED WHILE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY/PARKED. LAST FAILURE OR PASSENGER FRONT OCCURED AFTER VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION - LATCH DISENGAGED AND DOOR SWUNG OPEN WHILE MAKING LEFT TURN. ATTACHING FOUR IMAGES OF REMOVED FAILED LATCH MECH SHOWING MFR AND PART NO INFO

DRIVING TO SHOPPING CENTER, I HAD MY HEATED SEAT TURNED TO THE HIGHEST SETTING. IT SEEMED AS THOUGH THE SEAT WAS UNUSUALLY WARM SO I TURNED THE SEAT DOWN TO THE MEDIUM SETTING AND CONTINUED DRIVING. THE SEAT CONTINUED TO FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE AS I DROVE, SO I TURNED IT DOWN TO LOW, BUT IT STILL DID NOT COOL DOWN. IT BECAME ALARMINGLY HOT SO I TURNED IT OFF COMPLETELY BUT IT DID NOT COOL DOWN. AT THIS POINT I WOULD HAVE EXITED THE CAR, BUT I WAS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC IN FRONT OF THE MALL. AFTER PARKING I DID MY SHOPPING AND DID NOT TURN THE SEAT ON FOR THE DRIVE HOME. THE NEXT MORNING I DISCOVERED A 13 INCH BURN IN THE CONFIGURATION OF A WIRE ON MY LEFT BUTTOCK AND THIGH. (PICTURE TAKEN) BMW REPORT STATED THAT THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE SEAT AND THAT IT "PERFORMED AS IT WAS DESIGNED." THEY ACCEPTED NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR MY BODILY INJURY. *TR

AFTER UNLATCHING THE DRIVER SIDE SEATBELT, THE BELT FOLD INTO THE RETRACTION MECHANISM SUCH THAT IT GOT STUCK AND COULD NOT BE USED UNTIL IT WAS MANUALLY UNSPOOLED, WHICH IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO DO. THIS HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES IN THIS CAR AND PRESENTS AND SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE SINCE IT RENDERS THE SEATBELT POTENTIALLY UNUSABLE. *TR

THIS WOULD BE THE SECOND TIME IN WHICH I HAVE HAD TO VISIT NICK ALEXANDER IMPORTS OF DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES, DUE TO THE MALFUNCTIONING OF MY VEHICLE, SPECIFICALLY THE ENGINE. THE FIRST TIME, MY CAR HAD STALLED ON THE FREEWAY DURING RUSH HOUR TIME. THE SERVICE SPECIALIST AT THE DEALERSHIP ATTRIBUTED MY CAR STALLING AS A SYSTEM UPDATE ISSUE AND FOUND THAT THEIR WAS A RECALL ON A VEHICLE PART (A NUT THAT SECURES THE SPARE TIRE TO THE CAR THAT COULD BECOME LOOSE DURING DRIVING), WHICH HE REPLACED. THIS SECOND TIME, WHICH WAS ON JANUARY 5TH, 2015, MY CAR STARTED TO WARN ME THAT THE "ENGINE OIL PRESSURE WAS TOO LOW" AND TO STOP MY ENGINE IMMEDIATELY. AFTER A FEW MINUTES OF PARKING MY CAR, I NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A PUDDLE OF OIL GATHERING UNDER THE UPPER PORTION OF MY VEHICLE. ONCE I WAS ABLE TO HAVE MY CAR INSPECTED BY THE DEALER'S SERVICE SPECIALIST, I WAS NOTIFIED THAT THERE WAS ANOTHER RECALL ON A PART. THIS TIME IT WAS THE OIL FILTER HOUSING THAT CRACKED BECAUSE IT WAS "TOO WEAK". THE SPLASH SHIELD AND OIL DEFLECTOR ALSO NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. IN BOTH INCIDENTS I WAS PLACED IN LIFE THREATENING SITUATIONS AND CAN NO LONGER FEEL CONFIDENT THAT MY MINI COOPER IS SAFE TO DRIVE. *TR
