Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2016-2018 Santa Fe, 2017-2018 Santa Fe Sport, 2019 Santa Fe XL, and 2014-2015 Tucson vehicles. The Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) module could malfunction and cause an electrical short, which could result in an engine compartment fire.
Risk: An engine compartment fire while parked or driving can increase the risk of injury.
Fix: Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete. Dealers will replace the ABS multi-fuse, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 31, 2022. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 218.

NOTE: THERE ARE TWO SUNROOFS ON THIS VEHICLE; ONE FORWARD, OVER THE TWO FRONT SEATS, AND THE OTHER OVER THE BACK SEAT. WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, THE FORWARD SUNROOF EXPLODED - GLASS FLYING EVERYWHERE - THERE WAS NOTHING LEFT. I CAN'T BELIEVE MY HEAD AND FACE WERE NOT CUT AND BLEEDING. THE POSSIBILITY OF ROCKS BEING THROWN FROM SOMEONE ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD IS NIL: NO ONE WAS THERE. NEARBY VEHICLES WERE NOT FAR ENOUGH AWAY TO ALLOW THE NECESSARY TRAJECTORY FOR A ROCK SENT AIRBORNE FROM THEIR VEHICLES' TIRES TO LAND ON THE ROOF OF MY VEHICLE. I HAVE NO EXPLANATION OR REASON AS TO HOW OR WHY THIS HAPPENED. NOW I'M OUT $500.00 FOR MY DEDUCTIBLE, FOR SOMETHING THAT I CAN'T EXPLAIN. *JS

WITHIN 24 HOURS OF HEARING KNOCKING AND TICKING IN MY ENGINE (WITH NO CODES OR SIGNALS SHOWING ANY ISSUES) THE ENGINE FAILED. THE NOISE COULD BE HEARD CONTINUOUSLY AT ANY SPEED FOR 24 HOURS. ONCE THE ENGINE FAILED WHILE I WAS TRYING TO DRIVE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT AND OIL LIGHT CAME ON. I'VE HAD THE VEHICLE FOR 4 YEARS AND IT'S AT 103,000 MILES WITH CONSTANT OIL CHANGES AND NO OTHER ISSUES WITH THE TUSCON. IN FACT, IT HAS BRAND NEW OIL IN THERE NOW. THERE IS A RECALL OF THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE SONATA, SANTA FE, AND OTHER KIA VEHICLES BUT NONE FOR THE TUSCON. TUSCON NEEDS TO BE INCORPORATED INTO THIS RECALL AND COVERED BY HYUNDAI. HYUNDAI IS INVESTIGATING THE ENGINE AND OIL PAN AREA NOW. RESULTS ARE PENDING.

ELECTRIC WINDOWS IN THE CAR ARE A SAFETY HAZARD. I HAVE REPLACED BOTH FRONT AND BACK OF THE PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW SWITCHES BECAUSE THEY DO NOT ALLOW THE WINDOW TO GO UP OR DOWN. I TOOK IT IN FOR ONE WINDOW THAT WOULD NOT GO UP AND DOWN AND ABOUT A MONTH LATER THE SECOND WINDOW WENT. I AM KNOWING THAT IN THE FUTURE I WILL HAVE TO REPLACE THE OTHER TWO AS WELL. THIS CAN CAUSE A SERIOUS PROBLEM IF THERE IS AN ACCIDENT AND THE OCCUPANTS NEED TO OPEN WINDOWS TO GET OUT OF THE CAR. I AM SHOCKED THAT THERE IS NO RECALL TO FIX WHAT EVER ELECTRICAL ISSUE THERE MIGHT BE WITH THE WINDOWS. I JUST CAN'T FATHOM THAT TWO WINDOWS WOULD HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WITHIN MONTHS OF EACH OTHER.

A recall caused my engine to fail, and needs replacing. it is i believe “campaign 966” They are claiming that i needed to have the system software updated PRIOR to the engine failing. they know that their recall is responsible for the engine failing, but they are trying to go around it by saying that it needed to be fixed before the engine gave out. They NEVER, not one time, reached out about this needing to be fixed. not by email, or regular mail. Nothing. i’m reading everywhere that they do this shady stuff constantly to people, and it is just not right. Thank you

The actuator malfunctioned on the back driver side door, and it is not able to be opened from the outside or inside. Poses a safety risk because passengers in the back seat behind the driver would not be able to exit the car quickly in case of emergency. I managed to pull into a driveway & when I tried to start it, puffs of smoke were coming from under the hood. I got it to my mechanic & he said my starter was burnt up. He replaced the starter & discovered that my engine is seized up. It was a scary incident especially driving on a busy state highway. It put my life & others lives in danger. There were no warning lights on prior to this. I acquired the vehicle in February from a car lot. I have had it serviced regularly.

Placed a call to McGovern Hyundai dealership in Leominster Ma and they ask me to hold, They informed me my car is part of a safety recall and needs to be tow over. I did as instructed, McGovern dealership informed they will work it out with Hyundai Motor America. I received two letters in my mail, One for safety recall and they will be fixed at NO CHARGE. Dealership informed me my engine work is not part of a recall and i should pay for the charges. Further checks reveals that my car model, year and make was part of a class action lawsuit which Hyundai settled due to failure of engines.

While driving at approximately 70MPH on the highway, my 2014 Hyundai Tucson Limited suddenly locked up with no warning lights, no noise and no prior symptoms. The engine completely seized, causing immediate loss of power. I was barely able to coast off the highway exit to a final stop on the feeder shoulder, in a desolate area. The vehicle has always been properly maintained and is in excellent condition. Upon research, I learned that Hyundai has known of internal engine defects caused by metallic debris left from manufacturing since 2010, which can cause bearing failure and engine seizure. My Tucson's failure matches the same pattern described in Hyundai's Theta II engine recall and warranty extension campaigns. This sudden failure created an extremely dangerous situation at highway speed and possibility of injury while being stranded on an open road. Many owners, myself included, were never properly notified of the risks. I am filing this report because this incident represents a serious safety defect and potential recurrence among similar vehicles that may not yet be covered by recall. I respectfully request that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigate this issue and ensure Hyundai expands its recall and warranty coverage to include affected 2014 Hyundai Tucson Limited vehicles exhibiting this defect that was well-known to the Hyundai Corporation. Date of Incident: October 23,2025 in Houston Texas. Vehicle towed to Hyundai dealer which diagnosed Engine Seized and currently awaiting Warranty Extension Approval (TXXC/TXXI)

I have been receiving recall notices from Hyundai since approximately March 2022 for a fire risk related to the anti-lock breaking system, and to date they have not implemented a repair or fix or given any indication of the time frame in which I can expect a fix to be completed. I went to the dealer several months ago and they indicated that they did not have any information on how long it would be until a repair is implemented. I just received another letter this week (November 2022), almost 8 months since my first notification, and the letter states the same information. Hyundai should have to provide replacement vehicles or reimburse us for our vehicle. I do not feel safe with a car that can suddenly catch on fire. In addition, I cannot simply park my vehicle outside or away from structures. I work in a Government building and park in a public parking garage for work with hundreds of other people in a highly populated area with no street parking. Their suggested solution is nonsense and unworkable. I am concerned that they are not doing what needs to be done to get this recall handled. It has also diminished the value of my vehicle and I could not possibly sell it or obtain the same value with an open recall with no foreseeable solution.

The engine malfunctioned within the first 8 months of me purchasing the vehicle. It just randomly stopped working one day. The dealership was able to succesfully replace the engine under warranty (at least that’s what they told me they did) however, the same issue arose another 8 months later. I’ve done everything I needed to do as far as getting the oil changed and maintaining the vehicle. The engine light would repeatedly flash on and off so I assumed it was a malfunction because I just had the engine replaced. I took it to a local mechanic to get evaluated and they determined the engine was really bad and needed to replaced again. I reached back out to the dealership to notify them and they reached out to my extended warranty company. The extended warranty company denied my claim stating it is not covered due to the engine causing the insides of the vehicle to melt. Now I have a car that I am unable to drive due to no fault of my own.

On August 17th 2024 my 2014 Hyundai Tucson wouldn't start. I had my vehicle towed to the dealership so that they can figure out why my vehicle wasn't working. I just leased the vehicle in March 2024. The dealership told me there was an engine recall on my vehicle and they didn't handle engine work and it needed to be towed to an Hyundai dealership. I contacted the Hyundai dealership and they told me there was an engine recall on my vehicle and that it would be serviced on October 17th 2024 at 11 am and hopefully done by 6 pm that day. I was and still am blown away that I have to be without my vehicle for 2 months. Fast forward to October 17th 2024 I'm excited about finally getting my vehicle back as this recall has caused me so much stress and a Major Inconvenience on my life. I contact Hyundai and am told the appointment is for a vehicle diagnostic and they don't have the engine it has to be ordered and then make an appointment to install. I also was told there were 2 other recalls on the vehicle that would be covered under the warranty or recall but the engine would not be covered under the warranty or recall because my name is listed under the dealership name on the title so my vehicle is currently still sitting at Hyundai with no answers from either party about me getting my vehicle fixed and back on the road

I was traveling in Texas with my child on the highway going 65 when my vehicle went into limp mode and immediately started making a noise like a card in a bicycle tire and would not accelerate. After a few seconds the check engine light came on blinking. I managed to make it to an exit and pull into a gas station. I called a tow company and had to wait more than an hour in the heat with my [XXX] for them to reach me. I called the closest dealer which was aslo an hour away and made sure they were aware the vehicle was coming. A family member drove two hours to get us. A service tech texted me that night and told me the car was awaiting a tech. First thing Monday I received another text that a new engine replacement had been approved. It actually took several phone calls and trying to reach anyone to actually find out that the car had code p1326 and had failed the rod bearing test. And I read more about the gdi theta II settlement and reached out to customer care and opened a ticket to be reimbursed for towing. The vehicle had a previous recall completed for the knock sensor. No rental cars were available to me AT ALL. I received a remanufactured short block all said and done in 10 days. My family was left with no car for that time. There were no warning signs on my car-no excessive oil consumption, no other lights or noises. terrified it will occur with the replacement. THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD OF STEPPED UP AND MADE HYUNDAI HONOR THE EXTENSION TO INCLUDE THE TUCSON MODEL TOO. FOR ALL TUCSON OWNERS ARE LEFT IN THE COLD WITH A VEHICLE WORTH [XXX] SINCE THEY ARE STILL HAVING MORE PROBLEMS WITH THIS 2.4L MOTOR. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR

MY SON WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WITH HIS 2014 HYUNDAI TUSCON AND HIS CAR STALLED. WE HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A DEALER AND THEY SAID THE ENGINE THREW A ROD. THEY HAVE SAID IT NEEDS A COMPLETE ENGINE. WHEN I HAVE CONDUCTED OTHER RESEARCH ON THIS TYPE OF CAR I HAVE FOUND NUMEROUS EXAMPLES OF THE SAME SITUATION HAPPENING.

I PURCHASED THIS 2014 HYUNDAI TUCSON AS A SECOND OWNER FROM A HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP FOR MY DAUGHTER IN JANUARY OF 2018 WITH 70,223 MILES. CAR HAD BEEN INSPECTED AND SERVICED BY THE DEALERSHIP HYUNDAI TECHNICIANS. ON 9/13/2019 WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE STARTED MAKING LOUD BANGING NOISES FROM THE ENGINE AND EXPERIENCED DIFFICULTY SHIFTING. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP WHERE WE WERE TOLD IT HAD EXPERIENCED "TOTAL ENGINE FAILURE" DUE TO METAL SHAVINGS THROUGHOUT THE ENGINE AND IT WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED-MY DAUGHTER HAD ONLY PUT 23 THOUSAND MILES ON IT-THE ENGINE FAILED AT 93000 MILES.. THE REPLACEMENT COULD TAKE UP TO 2 MONTHS-MOST LIKELY DUE TO NUMEROUS TUCSON ENGINE FAILURES . THERE IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THIS ENGINE-JUST CHECK OTHER SITES ON THE INTERNET.THERE IS A RECALL WITH THE SAME ENGINE FOR SONATAS, SANTA FE, AND KIA MODELS BUT NOT TUCSON

SAME THING AS THE OTHERS LISTED, ENGINE COMPLETELY LOCKED UP GOING DOWN THE ROAD, HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED, AND THE MECHANIC SAID THAT IT WAS TOTALLY GONE BECAUSE OF THE OIL. HYUNDAI WOULD NOT PAY FOR ANY OF IT, SINCE I AM THE SECOND OWNER AND THERE WAS NO RECALL ON MY CAR. THE RECALL WAS FOR THE SAME EXACT MOTOR, SAME EXACT PROBLEM, JUST A DIFFERENT MODEL CAR.
