- WHEELS:HUBCampaign 17E048000 · 28/08/2017
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain Wheel Hub Bearing assemblies, part number HB5Z-1104-C, incorrectly listed as being for installation on the rear axles of 2011-2017 Ford Explorer 4X2 vehicles. These bearings assemblies were manufactured without a self retention feature, possibly resulting in the separation of the wheel or wheel end.
Risk: A loss of the wheel or wheel end can increase the risk of a crash.
Fix: Ford will notify the distributors of the hubs specifying that they are to only be used on drive axles. It is believed that none of the hubs were purchased from Ford dealers for the incorrect application. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332.

Exhaust smell in passenger compartment while driving; similar to sulfur. Feel safety at risk due to smell causing headaches/nausea; concerned about carbon monoxide or other hazardous materials. Vehicle brought to dealer on 12/13/2021 and issue confirmed. Dealer aware of similar complaints across this vehicle type; TSB is available, so Ford is aware, however not catagorized by Ford as a safety issue. WHEN DRIVING THE 2014 EXPLORER, COKING OVER A HILL AND BEGAN BRAKING. CAR LOST BRAKING CAPABILITY AND BEGAN TO SPEED DOWN THE HILL, AND CRASHED INTO A TREE. ONE MIDDLE OCCUPANT ON 2ND ROW CAME UNBUCKLED AND DIDN'T SURVIVE. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING TRIAL FOR 3 YEARS AND RECENTLY INFORMED THAT NO INVESTIGATION HAS BEEN PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE OTHER THAN THE EDR/CDR. NO POST VEHICLE INSPECTION HAS BEEN PERFORMED, NO MEDICAL REPORTS HAVE BEEN PULLED. I HAVE PREVIOUSLY FOR 3 YEARS INQUIRED FOR HELP ON THIS MATTER AND HAVE FORWARDED QUESTIONS REGARDING INFORMATION OBTAINED. I KNOW WITHOUT A SHADOW OF A DOUBT I AM NOT LIABLE FOR THIS ACCIDENT AND HAVE WORKED FOR 3 YEARS TRYING TO OBTAIN INFORMATION ON THIS VEHICLE. WHEN I WAS COMING DOWN THE HILL THE CAR SEEM TO BE INCREASED IN SPEED - THE REPORT DOES SHOW THAT FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE THE ENTIRE REPORT AND NO GAS WAS APPLIED. I TURNED AS FAR AS I COULD WITH THE WHEEL AND THE STEERING BARELY STEERED AS WELL. I WOULD LIKE TO SAVE A LIFE SOMEWHERE DOWN THE LINE AS THIS HAS CHANGED MY LIFE FOREVER. THE OCCUPANT ON THE 2ND ROW PASSED AWAY THAT DAY FROM SEAT BELT COMING UNATTACHED. MEDICAL REPORTS SHOW HE WAS WEARING A SEATBELT. IF THERE WAS SOMEONE WILLING TO LOOK INTO THIS - WOULD BE A LIFE CHANGING SITUATION.

My APillar molding piece flew off the passenger side of my wind shield. I’m scared the other side will do the same thing and I don’t want anyone to get hurt but I have to use my car. I have been waiting 6 months for the parts… Also, whenever it rains my floorboards flood from water leaking through my windshield and could possibly get into my electronics as well.

The steering began to make a rubbing sound and then turning became difficult. I also received a traction control failure warning. When the vehicle was taken to the Ford dealership where it was purchased I was told that it’s a common failure of the steering rack (over $2,000 repair) and that there were complaints but no recall. I have since taken the vehicle home and parked it until I decide whether to make the repair.

Hello, yes my vehicle is available upon inspection request. Bell Ford(recall performed) and another shop has inspected the vehicle for the power steering issue. *I had a toe link recall completed at Bell Ford in May, 2022. Since then my vehicle has not been driving as smoothly. Please add this recall back to my vehicle. *The radio/ climate control screen updates and sometimes just goes black when I start the vehicle. Sometimes can take up to 5 mins to turn back on. Please add this to the recall list for my vehicle. *Forward collision warning never worked. ***The power steering went out while myself and my daughter were driving on a busy state highway. I was not going over 60 mph per speed limit. 3 alarms went off while driving. My SUV instantly became very hard to handle. There is no power steering. I went to an auto shop and they told me it was electrical, they couldn’t fix it and gave me a print out of the diagnosis. I’ve researched the problem and see this is a common issue and usually happens where it’s not safe to just stop as the vehicle suggests. I have pictures was trying to add but it won’t let me select that option. Please add this to the recall list for my vehicle.

MY HUSBAND AND I WERE DRIVING ONTO THE HIGHWAY, GOING LESS THAN 50 MPH, WHEN WE HEARD A VERY LOUD EXPLOSION THAT RATTLED OUR HEADS AND MADE OUR EARS RING. THERE WASN'T ANYTHING THAT HIT US OR THAT HAD FELL ON SUNROOF AT ALL SO WE WERE BOTH IN SHOCK AS TO WHAT HAD HAPPENED. WE BOTH LOOKED UP TO SEE THAT OUR FRONT SUN ROOF HAD EXPLODED AND IN A QUICK PANIC WE TRIED TO SHUT THE SUNROOF TO KEEP THE GLASS FROM FALLING ON US BUT WERE NOT ABLE TO CLOSE IT IN ENOUGH TIME AND GLASS FELL ALL OVER US AND FLEW INTO THE BACK HITTING OUR KIDS. WE TOOK THE NEXT EXIT TO NEAREST GAS STATION TO STOP AND MAKE SURE NO ONE WAS BLEEDING OR CUT. THE EXPLOSION WAS SO LOUD WE WERE ALL SHAKEN UP. LUCKILY THERE WAS A NEARBY CAR WASH TO VACUUM THE DEBRIS OFF OF EVERYONE AND CALM DOWN THE SCARE THAT PUT US IN PANIC. WE DIDN'T WANT GLASS FLYING OFF AND HITTING OTHER VEHICLES AROUND US. WE TOOK PHOTOS AND INVESTIGATED THE VEHICLE FOR POSSIBLE EVIDENCE AS TO WHY OUR SUNROOF EXPLODED. TO OUR FINDINGS THERE WAS NO OTHER POSSIBLE ANSWERS OTHER THAN OUR SUNROOF CLEARLY JUST EXPLODED OUT OF NOWHERE. AND WE STILL HAD 2 HOURS TO DRIVE ON HIGHWAY TO GET HOME AT NIGHT. I'M WORRIED FOR THE SAFETY OF MY KIDS BECAUSE WE HAVE A BIGGER SUN ROOF BEHIND THIS SMALL ONE THAT IS RIGHT ABOVE THEIR SEATS AND I'M SURE IT COULD EXPLODE NEXT. I HAD TO PLACE MY SONS BLANKET ABOVE THEIR HEADS TO KEEP THE GLASS THAT WAS STILL ATTACHED FROM CRUMBLING AND FALLING ON THEM OR IN THEIR EYES DURING THE REST OF THE WAY HOME. THE GLASS WAS CRUMBLING LIKE COOKIE CRUMBS AND IT WAS NOT SAFE FOR THEM IN THE BACK AT ALL. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE FOR ALL PEOPLE IN THE VEHICLE, INCLUDING SURROUNDING VEHICLES AND ROAD SAFETY THAT SHOULD NOT BE IGNORED OR TAKEN LIGHTLY. *TR

At one point the Explorer was always causing a rear wheel area to squeal really loud while driving. That finally got remedied but after 3 years of taking the vehicle in to 2 different shops. While yhe vehicle was still under warranty I was told there was nothing wrong and they can't reproduce the squeal. Once the warranty expired they said it was due to a seized brake which I ended up paying for the replacement even though they said this was a known issue on the Explorers. Another issue with the 2014 Explorer is water leaking into the rear compartments and the spare tire area in the vehicle. From online sear he's, this is also a known issue with no recalls. More recently, I was trying to get all four of my tires changed, but was told by the tire shop that they can't change my tires due to swollen lug nuts, this is a known issue on Ford's and I have to take it to a mechanic. I called Ted Britt Ford and inquired about the service to replace the lugs with solid metal lug nuts instead of the OEM chrome plated. Parts department told me they are $10 a piece. I went ahead an ordered them through the parts department. When I picked up my vehicle, I was told they don't sell the solid metal lug nuts and only replaced with the chrome plated OEM lug nuts.

THE WATER PUMP IN MY 2014 FORD EXPLORER 3.5L V6 ENGINE BEGAN LEAKING COOLANT. THE WATER PUMP HAD TO BE REPLACED AT 79,000 MILES. I BECAME AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AFTER GETTING AN OIL CHANGE. THE COOLANT RESERVOIR HAD TO BE FILLED AND I WAS INFORMED OF A POSSIBLE COOLANT LEAK. TWO WEEKS AFTER GETTING THE COOLANT FILLED, MY RADIATOR FAN BEGAN RUNNING FAST AND LOUD. I BROUGHT IT INTO THE SHOP AND WAS TOLD I HAD A LEAKING WATER PUMP. THERE WAS ONLY ONE INCH LEFT OF COOLANT IN THE RESERVOIR AFTER JUST BEING FILLED UP. I WAS THEN TOLD IT WOULD TAKE 14-16 HOURS OF LABOR TO REPLACE THE WATER PUMP WHICH ITSELF COSTS LESS THAN $150. I WAS REFERRED BY THE SHOP TO THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE THE WORK NEEDED WAS EXTENSIVE AND BECAUSE IT INVOLVED A FORD PART. THE DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS AND REFERRED ME TO FORD. THE DEALERSHIP CONFIRMED THE WATER PUMP LEAK. BASICALLY, THE ENGINE HAD TO BE TAKEN APART TO REPLACE THE WATER PUMP, BECAUSE THE PUMP IS MADE PART OF THE ENGINE ITSELF. I BELIEVE THE FORD ENGINE AND THE WATER PUMP IS DEFECTIVE. THE GASKETS OR BEARINGS IN THE WATER PUMP FAIL AND THERE ARE WEEP HOLES IN THE WATER PUMP WHICH ALLOW COOLANT TO LEAK INTO THE ENGINE AND MIX WITH THE ENGINE OIL. MY VEHICLE WAS OUT OF THE MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY. I SPENT $1,839.82 TO FIX A SINGLE WATER PUMP! THERE SHOULD BE AN INVESTIGATION INTO THIS MANUFACTURING AND DESIGN DEFECT DUE TO THE BURDEN IT PLACES ON THE PUBLIC. THERE ARE ALSO SAFETY ISSUES CAUSED BY THIS DUE TO VEHICLES BEING SO AFFECTED BY THE COOLANT LEAKS THE ENGINES SHUT DOWN COMPLETELY WHILE IN USE. I UNDERSTAND THIS HAS HAPPENED TO MANY, MANY OTHER FORD 3.5L V6 ENGINES. I HAVE THE MY VEHICLE REPAIR RECORDS IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO REVIEW THEM.

Steering gear failure. Ford dealer estimate $2,900 to replace the entire steering gear. A new part is not available, and there is no ETA on re-manufactured parts. The vehicle is unsafe to drive, and therefore unusable. There are recalls on 2011-2013 and 2015-2019 electronic assist steering gear systems for the same exact issue, why was 2014 was excluded, why does the vehicle require the entire steering gear after only 7 years of use, and why wont Ford take responsibility for a known failing and dangerous product. This has been reported once, I spoke with a Ford representative and he setup an appointment at the dealership that was to setup an appoint for diagnosis before they setup a repair/replacement appointment. An appointment to setup an appointment to setup a diagnosis appointment to setup a repair appointment. Seriously, what is up with that? Finally, plastic window components had to be replaced. THIS VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED USED ON OCTOBER 19TH. PROMPTLY AFTER PURCHASE THE SMELL OF CARBON MONOXIDE FUMES WERE DETECTED IN THE VEHICLE. WITH THE USE OF A CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTOR THE PRESENCE OF CARBON MONOXIDE WAS CONFIRMED AND THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED. WE WERE TOLD THAT FORD WAS WORKING ON A SOLUTION. DURING A FOLLOW UP CALL ON THE FIRST OF NOVEMBER WE WERE TOLD THAT THE DEALER HAD NOT BEEN PROVIDED GUIDANCE FOR A REPAIR. IN A FOLLOW UP CALL ON DECEMBER 8TH, WE WERE SCHEDULED FOR SERVICES ON DECEMBER 15TH. THE REPAIR WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. CURRENT CARBON MONOXIDE CONTINUES TO ENTER THE CABIN WITH LEVELS RECORDED AS HIGH AS 45 PPM WHEN MAX AC IS IN USE.

I'm writing regarding recall: October 13, 2025 NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 25V695000 Rearview Camera Image May Not Display A rearview camera that fails to properly display an image can reduce the driver’s view behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash. I have a 2014 Ford Explorer and the rearview camera failed approximately 1 year ago. I have experienced intermittent image, partial image, and no image at all. Is there some reason the 2014 Ford Explorer is not included in the recall ?

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN STARTING THE VEHICLE, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING WHEEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BEARING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND CRASHED IT INTO A TREE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE REAR PASSENGER SUSTAINED A BUSTED LIP THAT DID NOT REQUIRE MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7,000.

I was driving down the interstate and the piece on the side where it covers the windshield blows off, the passenger side now tries to. When it happened i rolled the window down and held onto it until we could pull over.

I WAS DRIVING MY 2014 FORD EXPLORER SPORT ON THE PARKWAY AND AT APPROXIMATELY 65MPH, MY DASHBOARD LIT UP INDICATING "STEERING LOSS STOP SAFELY" & "SERVICE ADVANCETRAC". I AM BEYOND FURIOUS! LUCKILY I WAS STRONG ENOUGH TO STEER THE VEHICLE SAFELY OFF THE ROAD, BUT I DON'T BELIEVE I COULD SAY THE SAME IF MY WIFE WAS DRIVING. THIS IS A DEATH SENTENCE TO A DRIVER. I SHOULD NOT BEAR THE BURDEN OF A NEARLY $3,000 REPAIR DUE TO FORD'S POOR ENGINEERING. THIS SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER RECALL AS THE PREVIOUS MODELS ARE. I AM FUMING!

The vehicle was placed in park with the engine running. No one was in the vehicle when, on it's own, it came out of park and rolled down our driveway, coming to a stop after hitting a tree. A person or cat could have easily been on the driveway and run and killed. It subsequently cost $10751.42 to repair the damage to the rear tailgate. No previous issues had been noted prior to this incident. This occurred in July 2001 and was submitted to our insurance company where we paid a$1000 deductible and caused our rates to go up. We have contacted Ford without any success.

I WAS DRIVING MY 2014 FORD EXPLORER ALONG THE FREEWAY DOING ABOUT 70 MPH AND STARTED SMELLING AN ODOR WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED VIOLENTLY SHAKING AND A BELL STATED BEEPING. A MESSAGE ON THE LEFT BLINKED ON STEERING FAILED PARK SAFELY AND STEERING TRACTION LIGHTS CAME ON . THE CAR WAS HARD TO STEER. I HAD TO FIND A PLACE TO PULL OVER QUICKLY. I MANAGED TO GET THE CAR OFF THE FREEWAY. WE SAT THERE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT HAPPEN AND IF WE COULD POSSIBLY DRIVE IT HOME. BUT OF COURSE WE COULDN'T AS THE STEERING WHEEL WAS COMPLETELY LOCKED. NOTHING WE COULD DO BUT CALL A WRECKER TO TOW THE CAR HOME. IF I HAD BEEN DRIVING IN THE FAR LEFT LANE, WE WOULD HAVE BEEN IN A DANGEROUS POSITION TO GET HIT AS THE CAR LOST POWER ALL OF A SUDDEN. LAST NIGHT WHILE CHECKING FOR RECALL INFORMATION, I FOUND THIS WEB SITE AND LEARNED THAT ALMOST A HUNDRED OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM BUT COULD NOT FIND A RECALL NUMBER. I GOING TO VENTURE A GUESS THAT THERE HAS NOT BEEN ENOUGH SERIOUS INJURIES OR DEATHS YET. WE WERE QUOTED OVER $1800 TO REPAIR OUR CAR. WE CANNOT AFFORD THIS. SOMEONE NEEDS TO SAY ENOUGH, ALL THESE SAME PROBLEMS ON THE SAME CAR HAS TO BE A MANUFACTURER'S FAILURE. THE CONSUMERS NEED HELP NOW. IS ANYONE LISTENING TO US?

HEAT ON PASSENGER SIDE NOT WORKING AT ALL CAUSING THE WINDOW ON THAT SIDE TO NOT BE ABLE TO BE SEEN OUT OF WHEN DRIVING THE CAR IN THE COLD. ONLY PUT COLD AIR OUT ON THAT SIDE. SPOKE TO SOMEONE AT FORD AND WAS TOLD IT WAS A PROBLEM JUST NOT IN MY CAR YET.
- 12/12/2017· ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,AIR BAGS
FOR A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF THE VEHICLE'S LIFE, THE AIRBAG LIGHT HAS ILLUMINATED A MAJORITY OF THE TIME. I DID NOT BELIEVE THIS WAS AN ISSUE AS I WAS INSTRUCTED THAT A LIGHT WOULD COME ON IF THE VEHICLE THOUGHT SOMETHING/SOMEONE WAS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT, BUT DID NOT MEET MINIMUM WEIGHT REQUIREMENTS. IT HAS COME TO MY ATTENTION WHEN MY VEHICLE WAS IN FOR A NON-RELATED REPAIR, THAT THIS IS NOT THE CASE AND THAT THE LIGHT ACTUALLY INDICATES A FAULT WITH THE AIRBAG SYSTEM. SO I HAVE BEEN DRIVING AROUND FOR PROBABLY 40,000 MILES WITH FAULTY AIRBAGS IN THE CAR IN WHICH I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER. I CALLED FORD WHO EXPRESSED LITTLE TO ZERO CONCERN UNTIL I LET THEM KNOW I WOULD BE FILING A COMPLAINT. ACCORDING TO THE DEALER, THE ISSUE IS THAT THE CONNECTORS ARE CORRODED (THE INDICATION WAS MULTIPLE CONNECTORS ARE CORRODED). THIS SEEMS LIKE A REALLY BIG ISSUE - I LIVE IN OREGON, SO NOT QUITE A DRY CLIMATE, BUT IT'S NOT ABNORMAL. THE PERSON I SPOKE TO AT FORD WAS NAMED "ANN"
