  • SEAT BELTS:FRONTCampaign 20V378000 · 30/06/2020

Volvo Cars of N.A., LLC (Volvo) is recalling certain 2008-2016 V70 and XC70, 2007-2016 S80, 2011-2018 S60 and V60, 2016-2018 S60 Cross Country, 2014-2020 S60L, 2009-2015 S80L, 2009-2016 XC60 and 2015-2018 V60 Cross Country vehicles. The flexible steel cable that connects the seat belt to the front outboard seating positions may fatigue over time, causing the seat belt to not secure the occupant in the event of a crash.

Risk: An unsecured occupant has an increased risk of injury in the event of a crash.

Fix: Volvo will notify owners, and dealers will replace the seat belt anchor cable for both front seats. The recall began December 10, 2020. Owners may contact Volvo customer service at 1-800-458-1552. Volvo's number for this recall is R10029.

  • LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES:DOORS:LATCHCampaign 19V849000 · 26/11/2019

Volvo Car of USA LLC (Volvo) is recalling certain 2011-2017 S60, S60I, V60, S60CC and V60CC vehicles. A component within the door latches may break, making the doors difficult to latch and/or leading the driver or a passenger to believe a door is securely closed when, in fact, it is not.

Risk: A door that is not securely latched could open while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant.

Fix: Volvo will notify owners, and dealers will replace all four door latches, free of charge. The recall began April 9, 2020. Owners may contact Volvo customer service at 1-800-458-1552. Volvo's number for this recall is R89978.

  • AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:SENSOR/CONTROL MODULE-INACTIVECampaign 12V439000 · 10/09/2012

Volvo is recalling certain model year 2013 S60 and XC60 vehicles. A manufacturing defect within the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) control unit may lead to an inadvertent deployment of the seat belt pretensioner and/or inflatable curtain.

Risk: If the seat belt pretensioner and/or inflatable side curtain deploy without cause, the driver could be distracted and the driver's visibility could be reduced, increasing the risk of a crash.

Fix: These vehicles have not been sold and the SRS control unit will be replaced prior to the cars being sold. Owners may contact Volvo at 1-800-458-1552.

  • EQUIPMENT:OTHER:LABELSCampaign 13V084000 · 05/03/2013

Volvo is recalling certain model year 2013 S60 and XC60 vehicles, manufactured on January 7, 2013. The product identification labels were printed with the incorrect manufacture year. Thus, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of 49 CFR Part 567, "Certification Regulation."

Risk: With an incorrect date of manufacture on the certification label, the vehicle owner may not be to determine if they are affected by future vehicle recalls, increasing their risk of a crash of injury.

Fix: Volvo has quarantined the affected vehicles and will install correct labels prior to sale. The recall began during March 2013. Owner notification letters will not be sent.

WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY, THE SUNROOF OF THE CAR SPONTANEOUSLY EXPLODED RAINING BROKEN GLASS INTO THE CAR. THERE WAS NOTHING ABOVE THE CAR AT THE TIME THE SUNROOF EXPLODED (I.E. AN OVERPASS WHERE SOMETHING COULD HAVE FALLEN) NOR WERE THERE OTHER VEHICLES NEAR BY THAT COULD HAVE KICKED A ROCK OR OTHER OBJECT THAT COULD HAVE BROKEN THE GLASS. FURTHER, AFTER PULLING OFF THE ROAD TO EXAMINE THE DAMAGE, THE GLASS HAD EXPLODED OUTWARD, AWAY FROM THE CAR RATHER THAN INWARD, AS WOULD BE EXPECTED IF SOMETHING LIKE A ROCK HAD HIT THE GLASS AND BROKEN IT.

  • 12/20/2013· SEAT BELTS

WHEN THE FRONT PASSENGER DOES NOT USE SEAT BELT, THE CAR DOES NOT ISSUE ANY AUDIBLE WARNING (EVEN WHEN THE CAR IS IN MOTION, E.G. AT 30 MPH). NOTE THAT, IN CONTRAST, THE AUDIBLE WARNING WILL RING FOR 6 SECONDS IF THE DRIVER DOES NOT USE SEAT BELT. I CALLED THE LOCAL DEALER AND VOLVO NORTH AMERICA AT (201) 768-7300, THE REPLY WAS THAT THIS IS EXACTLY HOW IT IS DESIGNED TO WORK. THE DEALER ALSO CONFIRMED THAT THE SAME BEHAVIOR WAS OBSERVED ON OTHER VOLVO CARS ON HIS SITE. THE RECEPTIONIST AT VOLVO NORTH AMERICA CONFIRMED TO ME THAT "THE AUDIBLE WARNING FOR THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT WAS ELIMINATED" AND IT IS NOT POSSIBLE EVEN FOR THE DEALER TO ENABLE IT. THEN, MY QUESTION IS, WHY DOES THE DESIGN ENGINEERS AT VOLVO THINK IT IS OK IF THE FRONT PASSENGER DOES NOT USE SAFETY BELT AND THERE IS NO NEED TO ISSUE A REMINDER?? IN OTHER CARS (E.G., I TESTED ON MERCEDES BENZ C300 4MATIC 2013 MODEL), WHEN THE CAR IS IN MOTION AND THE FRONT PASSENGER DOES NOT USE SEAT BELT, THE CAR REMINDS WITH A AUDIBLE WARNING. *TR

WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY TO WORK ON 12/3/18 MY VEHICLE DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER DISPLAYED A MESSAGE OF "NO OIL PRESSURE - PARK SAFELY". AS I ATTEMPTED TO PULL TO THE SHOULDER OF THE HIGHWAY THE ENGINE STARTED KNOCKING VERY LOUDLY AND SHUTDOWN! THE ENGINE NOW HAS CATASTROPHIC FAILURE, WITH A TERRIBLE KNOCKING IF THE ENGINE IS STARTED. IT CANNOT BE DRIVEN!

  • 11/23/2021· SERVICE BRAKES

I started losing brake pressure rapidly about a month ago. Took it to a shop and they recommended replacing the master cylinder. The repair was completed and the braking improved for about 2 weeks and then I lost all brake pressure. The vehicle was not safe to operate and I had it towed back to the shop once again. Again they suggested replacing the master cylinder. We completed that repair and I had brake pressure for about three days. Then my low brake fluid light came on. As of right now my pedal is squishy and I have to put brake fluid in every 24 hours. There are no external leaks but we can’t figure out what the issue is. It’s become a serious safety hazard. Possibly an internal leak into the brake booster. It’s also a common issue among other Volvo owners of this year and model.

  • 11/20/2017· POWER TRAIN,ENGINE

WITH LESS THAN 50,000 MILES ON IT, MY S60 JUST COMPLETELY STOPPED WORKING ON MY WAY TO WORK. WHILE PULLING OUT OF MY DEVELOPMENT, THE ENTIRE ENGINE, POWER STEERING - EVERYTHING SHUT DOWN. I HAD TO COAST INTO A TURNING LANE TO PUT ON MY FLASHERS. I HAD NOT GONE MORE THAN 3 MINUTES FROM MY HOUSE. AFTER VOLVO HAD IT FOR A FEW DAYS THEY TOLD ME THAT THE ALTERNATOR BELT HAD JUMPED OFF, HITTING THE ALTERNATOR, FRAYING THE BELT. THIS THEN RESULTED IN THE BELT WRAPPING AROUND ANOTHER PART OF THE ENGINE IMPACTING THE DRIVE BELT. THIS RESULTED IN DAMAGE TO THE DRIVE BELT, ALTERNATOR, 1/3 OF MY ENGINE AND MY CYLINDER BLOCK. VOLVO IS BLAMING THIS ON A FAULTY BELT TENSIONER, YET THEY ARE MAKING ME PAY FOR PART OF THE REPAIR WHICH IS A TOTAL COST OF $6,000. THIS IS CLEARLY A DEFECTIVE PART - EITHER IT WAS INSTALLED INCORRECTLY OR IT WAS NOT PROPERLY BUILT AS A BELT DOES NOT JUST "JUMP". I WAS LUCKY THAT I HAD NOT YET GOTTEN ONTO THE HIGHWAY OR I WOULD HAVE BEEN INJURED ALONG WITH OTHER PEOPLE IF NOT WORSE. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN AND VOLVO DOES NOT SEEM TO WANT TO ADMIT COMPLETE FAILURE HERE. THIS CAR HAS BEEN SERVICED REGULARLY AND AT THE SAME DEALERSHIP.

CAR IS BURNING OIL. NO OIL LEAKS DETECTED VIA MECHANIC OR LOSS ON THE GROUND. HAVE TO PUT MULTIPLE QUARTS OF OIL PER MONTH. THE "CHECK OIL PRESSURE" ILLUMINATES TYPICALLY WHEN MAKING A TURN WHICH IS EXTREMELY DISCONCERTING. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM FOR THIS VEHICLE, JUST GOOGLE IT. THEY ARE WELL AWARE THAT THESE CARS WERE INCORRECTLY RATED WITH THE AMOUNT OF OIL INITIALLY. VOLVO HAS DONE NOTHING TO REMEDY THIS SITUATION EVEN THOUGH IT'S A KNOWN PROBLEM.

I HAVE OWNED MY 2013 S60 VOLVO FOR 3.5 YEARS. ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO, I STARTED NOTICING THAT MY CAR WAS BURNING/ CONSUMPTION AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF OIL BETWEEN OIL CHANGE INTERVALS. I GET MY OIL CHANGED ON THE RECOMMENDED SCHEDULE, BUT I ALWAYS HAVE TO ADD OIL BEFORE THE NEXT SCHEDULED SERVICE. I STARTED DOING RESEARCH AND IT APPEARS THAT A RECALL WAS DONE FOR SOME CARS, BUT MY VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. IT ALSO APPEARS THAT MANY OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. PEOPLE PAY A LOT OF MONEY FOR THESE CARS AND TO HAVE A MAJOR COMPONENT FAILURE IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. I was driving down the freeway and the driverside door swung open while it was locked. This is after the door handle recall repair was performed. Prior to the recall repair, my door never came open like that while drving. This is dangerous because I could have fallen out, or a car could have hit my door! Also, the windshield leaks on the inside and has been doing that for a long while. Volvo service said it does not leak. It does leak when raining or ice/snow melt. This is dangerous because windshield wipers do not work on the interior part of the window to wipe away water so the driver can see.

I was driving my 2013 Volvo S60 T5 when I felt a sudden, sharp pain in my hand and started bleeding. After safely stopping, I discovered that the chrome trim on the steering wheel had detached from the steering wheel itself and caused a minor cut on my finger. Upon further inspection, I found that the trim is secured to the steering wheel with an adhesive that deteriorates over time, and the trim itself has sharp metal edges.

  • 10/06/2021· ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE

Car has had regular oil changes and was well below the recommended time for the next change when the engine began knocking in September. I took the car for inspection at a Volvo mechanic repair shop and was told all of the oil was gone and engine is damaged beyond repair. No engine or oil indicator light came on to warn me that the oil was low. I understand the 2011-2012 models were recalled for this issue and apparently the problem continued to the 2013 model. The car has low mileage and I am shocked that it is now effectively totaled. I am now without a vehicle and feel that Volvo should have to correct the situation and that a recall should be issued.

  • 10/01/2022· ENGINE

I started noticing that my daughter's Volvo was burning/ consuming an excessive amount of oil between oil change intervals. I get my oil changed on the recommended schedule, but I always have to add oil before the next scheduled service. There are no visible leaks. Within the past few months, she has twice had the "No Oil Pressure" warning rendered. I started doing research but cannot find a recall for the VIN. It also appears that many other people are having the same problem. People pay a lot of money for these cars and to have a major component failure is not acceptable. It appears there are issues with pistons. I am requesting that you create a safety recall including my daughter's VIN. If the engine were to seize due to lack of oil pressure while traveling on the highway, I fear she could be in a serious accident.

  • 09/22/2017· ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE

WHILE DRIVING THE CAR ELECTRONICS, SUCH AS THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS, AND RADIO STARTED TO FLICKER OFF AND ON REPEATEDLY AND THE ENGINE CUT OFF. I WAS UNABLE TO CONTROL THE STEERING AND THE CAR CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. I WAITED A FEW MIN AND WAS ABLE TO START BACK THE CAR AND DRIVE IT. THIS INCIDENT HAS HAPPENED 2 TIMES IN A 6 MONTH PERIOD. THE CAR WAS RECENTLY SERVICED AT AROUND 38,000 MILES AT THE VOLVO DEALERSHIP. THE ISSUE STARTED TO OCCUR ABOUT A MONTH AFTER THE CAR WAS SERVICED.

  • 09/10/2023· ENGINE

The car consumes approx. 0,5 to 1,0 liters of oil per 1000 miles. The problem started around 60,000 miles and has slowly worsened. Volvo admits that there is a problem with the piston rings, and the only fix is an expensive oil consumption test followed by an engine teardown and rebuild

  • 08/30/2021· VISIBILITY/WIPER

Water was dripping onto my lap while I was driving (distracting), as well as obstructing my vision while it ran down the inside of the glass. Took the car to the volvo dealership and found the windshield was loose. Had to pay to have the windshield replaced for safety reasons.

  • 08/28/2019· UNKNOWN OR OTHER

THE CAR IS BURNING OIL. AND LIKE I HAVE READ IN OTHER COMPLAINTS OF THE VOLVO 2013 S60 OIL HAS TO BE ADDED TOO OFTEN. I JUST HAD REGULAR SERVICE DONE ABOUT 5 WEEKS AGO. ON AUGUST 23, 2019 MY "LOW OIL PRESSURE" LIGHT CAME ON WHILE THE CAR WAS IN MOTION MAKING A TURN. I THOUGHT TO MYSELF "I CAN'T BE LOW ON OIL". ON SATURDAY AUGUST 24TH BEFORE DRIVING, I CHECKED MY OIL AND SURE ENOUGH THERE WAS BARELY ANY OIL ON THE DIP STICK. I CALLED THE VOLVO DEALERSHIP THAT I GO TO ALL THE TIME AND GOT AN APPOINTMENT FOR TUESDAY AUGUST 27TH. I TOLD MY SERVICE MANAGER THAT THIS IS THE THIRD TIME I HAD TO BRING THE CAR IN FOR THE OIL AND THAT THEY HAVE RAN EVERY TEST POSSIBLE. THIS IS RIDICULOUS! I LIKED VOLVO CARS SINCE HIGH SCHOOL AND THIS IS MY SECOND ONE. BUT ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM!

  • 08/26/2019· UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE

CAR IS BURNING OIL. I HAVE TO REPLACE THE OIL EVERY 2-3 MONTHS WITH NO WARNING AS TO WHEN IT IS COMING. THE "CHECK OIL PRESSURE" LIGHT COMES ON, NORMALLY WHEN THE CAR IS IN MOTION (SPECIFICALLY, MAKING A TURN), WHEN THERE IS ALREADY BARELY ANY OIL IN THE CAR LEAVING ME VERY LITTLE TIME TO GET IT TO A SHOP TO REPLACE THE OIL. A COUPLE OF DAYS LATER (IF NOT THAT SAME DAY), THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL ALSO COME ON. I WENT DIRECTLY TO VOLVO SOUTH SHORE FOR THEM TO DO AN OIL CHANGE ON JUNE 21, 2019 AND MY "OIL PRESSURE" LIGHT FLASHED ON AUGUST 16,2019. BY AUGUST 23, MY "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT CAME ON SO I TOOK IT TO THE NEAREST SHOP. THEY RAN THE DIAGNOSTICS REPORT AND TOLD ME THE LIGHT CAME ON BECAUSE THERE WASNT A DROP OF OIL IN THE CAR. ANYTIME I TAKE IT INTO VOLVO TO GET CHECKED, THEY SAY THEY CANNOT DO ANYTHING UNLESS THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT IS CURRENTLY ON BUT ITS NOT LIKE I CAN BRING IT TO THEM WHEN IT DOES BECAUSE ITS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE TO THEM/WAIT A FEW DAYS FOR AN APPOINTMENT! BY THAT TIME, I CAN FEEL THE CAR GIVING OUT AND ITS NOT LIKE I CAN TAKE IT ANOTHER 20 MILES TO SEE THEM! THE FACT THAT THIS ISSUE HAS NOT BEEN PROPERLY ADDRESSED IS ASTOUNDING. ITS NOT SAFE AND IT SHOULD NOT BE THE INDIVIDUAL'S RESPONSIBILITY TO REPLACE AN ENGINE THIS SOON!

  • 08/25/2025· ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

The “Tire Pressure System” warning appeared and has not turned off. New TPMS sensors were installed but the dealership could not get the car to calibrate despite multiple attempts. It has come to my attention that other models of Volvo have this same trouble, and a software update is required.

  • 08/23/2024· ENGINE

Engine has excessive oil consumption and sets owners up for expensive testing and repairs, because when the original recall came out, many Volvo s60 with excessive oil consumption were barely out of the allowed mileage range, which sticks the owners with excessive repairs. Volvo should stand behind this problem that effects numerous Volvo s60’s and compensate the repairs.

  • 08/20/2020· UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE

I RECENTLY HAD A RECALL ON A VOLVO FOR DOOR LATCHES. WHEN LOOKING AT OTHER RECALLS, I FOUND THAT THE OIL PRESSURE LIGHT ON MY VEHICLE, INDICATING LOW OIL PRESSURE, WAS A RECALL ON A PRIOR YEAR, SAME MAKE AND MODEL. I DID FURTHER RESEARCH AND DISCOVERED THAT THE CAR HAD A POSSIBLE RECALL OF THE WRONG DATE OF MANUFACTURE. I WAS ASSURED BY VOLVO THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT AFFECTED; HOWEVER, IT IS HAVING THE SAME ISSUES, WAS THE SAME MAKE AND MODEL, SAYS IT WAS MADE IN THE SAME CITY, AND I HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH THE TITLE ALONG WITH GETTING AN ORIGINAL DATE OF SELL FOR THE VEHICLE. I BOUGHT IT FROM A BUY HERE, PAY HERE PLACE, AND IT HAD AN YELLOW X ON THE INSIDE OF THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR. I THINK IT WAS AFFECTED BY THE PRIOR RECALL AND THAT I CAN NOT GET ALL THE NEEDED RECALLS BECAUSE THE PRIOR MISPRINT OF THE YEAR WAS NEVER CORRECTED BEFORE IT WAS SOLD TO THE DEALER.

SINCE THE VOLVO S60 DOES NOT COME WITH A SPARE TIRE, I WAS LEFT STRANDED IN A CANYON ROAD IN THE RAIN WITH A DISABLED VEHICLE. MINIMAL CELL PHONE RECEPTION MADE CALLING FOR HELP VERY DIFFICULT. VOLVO ASSUMES THAT CALLING THEIR ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE (IF YOU CAN) AND WAITING FOR A TOW TRUCK IS EQUIVALENT TO CARRYING A SPARE TIRE. IT CLEARLY IS NOT AND CAN LEAVE DRIVER'S HELPLESS WHEN A SIMPLE SPARE TIRE WOULD HAVE SOLVED THE PROBLEM. ALTHOUGH PURCHASING A SPARE TIRE IS AN OPTION, IT WOULD CONSUME TRUCK SPACE THAT IS NECESSARY FOR MY SON'S STROLLER. I CAN ONLY CARRY THE STROLLER OR THE SPARE BUT NOT BOTH.. Received a notification from Volvo USA, acknowledging an excessive oil consumption problem with certain model from 2013 to 2016, our 2013 S60 being one of them. Apparently it is a known design problem relating to pistons/ring, which can potentially damage the engine. This notification stated that Volvo voluntarily extended the warranty to 8 years and 100,000 miles, which of course excluded our 2013 S60! How is it that Volvo can get away with this?? Should this not be a recall? There was a class action against Volvo on this specific problem, but was resolved outside of court. This means that a handful of owners got compensated, but there are a lot more of us out here, trying to figure what to do about this!!! Do we need to start another class action? The government should not let corporations like Volvo get away with this!!! Please do something about this!

Since we purchased the car in December, water was observed on occasion streaking down the inside of the windshield. The headliner is damp after rain, and is stained from water as a result. Additionally defrost/defog wasn’t working, and my son reported having to pull over and wait for the rain to stop so he could drive with the windows down in order to be able to see the road. INCREDIBLY unsafe/unable to drive in the rain. I recently applied pressure to the inside of the windshield with my fingertips by the A-pillars on both driver and passenger side to test the seal and visually confirmed the windshield was lifting off of the frame, revealing a broken seal along the top and sides of the windshield.

I had a 2008 volvo s60 and now i have a 2013 volvo s60. And the same exact thing happened with both of them. Both cars had more than half a tank of gas and while driving on the freeway they started to stutter and then the car just shut off while i was driving. I was lucky to be close to an exit and i had to let the car role on nuetral till i was safe away from any traffic. If i want close to an exit you can just imagine what would of happened. When i tried to turn the car on it wouldn't start anymore. I have done knowledge on working on cars and new it was a fuel problem. Upon checking i noticed that the fuel rail didn't have any fuel pressure. On my 2008 the problem was the fuel pump module. On my 2013 its a newer car so i don't really know much about it. Only had it for 2 weeks. And now it got towed and is at the dealer where i bought it from to get checked by their mechanic. There must be a problem with s60's to have happened to both s60's I've owend.

THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I TOOK IT TO A MOM & POP MECHANIC THAT I USE. THEY DETERMINED THAT THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE CAR IS BURNING OIL. IT NEEDED 3 QUARTS. THEY RESEARCHED ON-LINE AND FOUND A 'TECHNICAL JOURNAL' RELEASED BY VOLVO USA TO IT'S SERVICE DEPARTMENTS ENTITLED 'HIGH OIL CONSUMPTION'. 16 DIFFERENT VOLVOS (MODELS AND YEARS) ARE LISTED IN THIS JOURNAL. MY CAR IS ONE OF THEM. VOLVO KNOWS THERE IS A PROBLEM, THE CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND YET THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALL FOR THE CARS. LOCAL AND CORPORATE VOLVO DENIED ME FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE WITH THIS BECAUSE THE CAR IS 'TOO OLD, WITH TOO MANY MILES'. BUT IT IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND THE PROBLEM IS ALSO WITH NEWER MODELS. SO THE FACT THAT MY CAR IS OLDER SHOULDN'T MATTER. MY CAR HAS THE ENGINE THAT HAS THE DEFECT. SHOULDN'T HAVE TO REBUILD THE ENGINE WITH ONLY 116,000 MILES. OBVIOUSLY, IF THEY KNOW OF 16 CARS THAT HAVE THIS ISSUE, IT HAS HAPPENED BEFORE AND WITHOUT BEING FIXED, IT CAN'T BE DRIVEN. BOTH LOCAL AND USA CONTACTS TREATED MY REQUEST AS AN ISOLATED EVENT, NOT A PART OF A BIGGER PROBLEM - ABOUT WHICH THEY HAVE KNOWLEDGE. AGAIN, THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECT!

In 2023, the engine of my 2013 Volvo S60 failed completely without prior warning and the vehicle had to be scrapped. Before that, in 2022, I paid $1,500 for a full front-end suspension rebuild due to abnormal wear. These failures were later determined to be consistent with high mileage. I had purchased the vehicle in 2019 believing it had 85,125 miles, but a 2025 VINinspect report based on NMVTIS data revealed the true mileage at sale was over 137,000 — a rollback of more than 50,000 miles. The title is now branded “Not Actual Mileage” by the federal database. This odometer fraud misled me into driving a severely worn vehicle that could have posed a serious safety risk, especially once the engine failed unexpectedly. No warning lights appeared prior to failure, and the engine is no longer available for inspection as the vehicle was sold for scrap. Independent mechanics noted the level of wear was not consistent with the mileage shown at the time of purchase. I have reported this case to NHTSA, the NY DMV, FTC, Attorney General, BBB, and others

I RECEIVED TWO SAFETY RECALL NOTICES (MARCH AND APRIL) FOR RECALL R89978. "THE DOOR LATCHES CAN WEAKEN MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO LATCH THE DOOR OR WORSE DRIVE THE CAR BELIEVING THAT THE DOOR IS SECURELY CLOSED WHEN IT'S NOT." IN THE VOLVO RECALL LETTER, IT STATES TO CALL THE DEALER TO SCHEDULE THE REPAIR AT NO COST. IT'S ALMOST JUNE AND MY DEALER HAS NOT RECEIVED THE PARTS FROM VOLVO. THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHEN THEY'LL RECEIVE PARTS FROM VOLVO. THIS IS THE ONLY CAR I HAVE ACCESS TO AND I DON'T FEEL SAFE. *TR

For the last year or so I have been experiencing a leak on the passenger side coming from the windshield. It is quite noticeable after heavy rain and even going through the carwash. The water has damaged the interior material right behind the sun visor. As a result, I glued it a few times but of course it is not staying because of the continual rain. I also have to keep a Damp Rid underneath the passenger seat because the car smells damp and musky after it has rained and being closed up. On one occasion, my passenger had been put at risk because they got soaked really bad during a rain storm and became ill. Unfortunately, there was nothing I could do about it and as you can imagine, my passenger was extremely upset.

I am submitting this report to formally document a severe safety-related failure involving my 2013 Volvo S60, VIN # [XXX] . This vehicle is part of the Volvo brand, widely recognized and marketed as among the safest in the world. Incident Summary: On [XXX], at approximately [XXX] in Norwalk, Connecticut, the vehicle experienced a catastrophic mechanical failure while in operation. The auxiliary (serpentine) belt suddenly failed, shredded itself, and wrapped around the timing pulley. Debris from the failed belt entered the timing belt housing — a supposedly sealed and protected compartment — causing the timing belt to jump. This resulted in an immediate loss of engine power while driving, placing me in a highly vulnerable position. Fortunately, I was not on a multi-lane highway or in fast-moving traffic. Had I been traveling on a busier route, the sudden loss of power could have led to a serious crash and potential injury. This failure represented a genuine threat to my safety. Further inspection revealed that: The lower crankshaft sprocket had skipped three teeth due to the intrusion of the auxiliary belt. The timing belt, although not broken, was off track. A new timing belt was installed in an attempt to restart the engine. The engine would crank but failed to start. A compression test revealed zero compression in all cylinders. The valve train was severely damaged (bent valves), and the engine sustained internal mechanical failure beyond repair. Conclusion and Context: This is not an isolated incident. Upon further research, I discovered that this failure — specifically the auxiliary belt disintegrating and compromising the timing belt system — is a known and well-documented problem in vehicles equipped with the B5254T12 Turbo engine. Volvo has been previously alerted to similar cases before. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The "brushed aluminum" interior panels are peeling. The metallic part has separated from the plastic in multiple area. This creates curled up (perpendicular to the original) pieces that are VERY sharp. I have no less than 10 cuts in the last year. The pieces are razor blade sharp. I don't allow my son to come to the front seats anymore when the car is parked.
